IRC channel is #ngeq. I answer questions and sometimes post pictures in there.

You know where you are. The dimly flickering lightbulb, the smell of cigarette smoke and cleaning chemicals- you're home. Well, as home as a refugee tenement in Londonderry could be to a fifteen-almost-sixteen year old. The men that live here are hard and cold. Only reason you're not dead is your mother. She kept the men at bay with cookies, kind words, and warm smiles. In more cynical moments, you understand what she really did when she sends you out to run the streets, even if it was past midnight. You never said anything, though. She was doing it for you.

Just like you're holding the man beneath you down and strangling him. You're doing it for her. After all, wasn't he the one that took her away from you about a month back, a little too grabby with his insistence, a gun went off in the struggle- really an accident, the coppers said, but they had bigger fish to fry. Besides. No one's going to miss the man beneath you. He's scum. A month, the government had said. A month to find a job or somewhere else to sleep. Well, you'd find the job and the place to sleep.

The Royal Irish Regiment was recruiting, going from one battalion to four, in order to meet manpower needs and the United Kingdom's overseas obligations. You were leaving for Initial Training tomorrow, and had one final evening in Derry. Why not meet old friends, the recruiters had said with a wink. Well, you weren't exactly meeting old friends, but it was the thought that counted, right?

(1/3?)
>>
Eyes bulging, the man beneath you finally died, and you fell back with an exhalation. You wondered if having already killed would make a difference in training, where they tried to instill a killing instinct in men sometimes so far removed from it it was a wonder they even tried to join up. You rolled off of the man and began heaving, doing your best to keep the contents of your stomach where they belonged. You'd just killed a man. Another person, just like you. But he'd killed your mother. Did that mean he was still a person, or scum on the bottom of your shoe, meant to be wiped off and forgotten about?

The killing instinct would make a difference, you'd learn. You learned faster and better than most other recruits, and the men that trained you recognized something in your eyes. But for now, or is it for now, this has to be a dream, your mother shouldn't be staring at you with sad eyes and speaking as though you're the one that's dead, she's dead and ashes in the Atlantic Ocean-

“Declan, as sure as my name's Darcy, but you've gone and done it right proper, now, young man. Wait till I tell your Father.” But Captain Cryan was dead too, and your mother is coming closer, closer, closer and you're backing away, trying to scramble away from her even as the flesh begins rotting and squirming as the maggots underneath reach out towards you, their next meal.

Then you're lying in bed with your last serious girlfriend, four years ago. She's nuzzling up against your neck, with both of her hands on your face.

(2/3)
>>
Then you're lying in bed with your last serious girlfriend, four years ago. She's nuzzling up against your neck, with both of her hands on your face.

“Dec,” she's asking you, “do you love me?” You tell her of course you do, you always have and always will, and now she's crying.

“If you loved me, Declan, WHY DID YOU KILL ME?”

Then you wake up with a jolt, in the room assigned to you on Level 9A in the Geofront, pistol in your hands and aimed at the face in the mirror above your dresser. You take a breath and stare at the face that stares back at you. Black hair over gray eyes, shadows under those eyes, and a slightly crooked nose from where you broke it years ago.

“Fuck.” This is too goddamn familiar. You can't ask for sleeping pills, though, because they'll take you off the active Agent roster. So you self-medicate with booze. The booze helps, but now you can't drink as much as you did because of liver damage, and you only twenty-eight years old. Good on you for reinforcing the stereotype of the typical Irishman, though. You put the pistol back underneath your pillow and stumble to the shower, which helps clear your head some. Looking at your face in the mirror, you decide to skip shaving today. Maybe the stubble will make you look more attractive to women? Maybe a goatee?

Thoughts of facial hair keeping the darker thoughts at bay, you throw something resembling a suit on, making sure to include your new body armor, then you descend to the cafeteria, retrieve breakfast, and ascend to the Section Two offices, where your cubicle, and work, awaits.

>Review the itinerary for Nevada.

First things first, you decide. The itinerary for your trip to Nevada. You pull up the relevant file in your email, forwarded to you by Human Resources. You're scheduled to leave tomorrow after lunch on a NERV cargo plane. You'll arrive in the United States sometime around nine at night. You'll sleep in an airport hotel that night, then hit the road for NERV-Nevada as soon as you wake up. Depending on when that is, you'll arrive about four hours later, where you'll meet the Commander of the base, the Subcommander, and the Fourth Child.

After the meet and greet, the Fourth will give you a tour of the base, and then you'll kick your heels for about a week while they finish the last minute preparations for the Fourth and Eva's transfer, seeing as how Commander Ikari has kicked the time line for this up by about a month and a half. It's not even September yet, Christ.

NERV's chartered a Gulfstream for the return flight, for the Child's comfort, and increased speed. You switch from the itinerary to the legal basis for Japan having more than three Eva units in-country. According to the law signed by the UN's Permanent Security Council, a single nation may have no more than three domestic Evangelion Units. If 02 is German, and 04 is American, then it's legal for 03 to still be Japanese.

You wonder what slimy bastard came up with that loophole and why he wasn't shot after wards so nobody else could use it. Well, the Americans are using it now, to 'secure the vital interests and territorial integrity of an allied nation'. Jesus, but they'd charmed the shit out of the Security Council. It helped they'd thrown tons of money at rebuilding efforts in third-world countries like Brazil.

[]Review the file on the Fourth.
[]Move on to the investigation.
[]Check in with Torstigg and Nakimura, the men you've got on Shinji and Rei, respectively.

You pull up the file on the Fourth Child, also conveniently attached to the email from HR, and pull out your phone, dialing Nakimura first.

“Nakimura here.”

“Cryan. How's the First?” Fourth Child- Mari Illustrious Makinami, aged fourteen and a half, great-granddaughter of Sir Daniel Langley, Victoria Cross winner on the beaches of Normandy, and grandfather of.... Sir John Langley, the United Kingdom's Ambassador to Japan. So Miss Makinami was related to Sir John, then? Probably his niece, at that.

“She's fine. All moles exterminated from the front yard, and back.”

“Affirmative. Keep an eye on her.”

“Roger, sir.” You hang up on Nakimura and dial Torstigg, who answers promptly.

“Torvald Torstigg. Mole removal's our specialty, home defense our game.” From her psyche profile, the Fourth is reported to enjoy her simulations for the Eva, even when caused pain. Masochistic tendencies? No psychological issues at first glance by any trained psychologists, you'd have to talk to her to check yourself, etc, etc. She should, by all accounts, be fairly easy to deal with. Unlike the Second. You shudder, glad she's being handled by someone else.

“How's the Third?”

“Enjoyed the Scotch you left for him, actually. After his first three or so drinks.”

“I figured. Katsuragi finished it, didn't she.”

“Yep,” he answers cheerfully. “No problems there. She says if you come back and the Fourth reports you making inappropriate advances, she'll let Shinji castrate you. In Unit-01.”

(1/2)
>>
Fuck yeah, made it in time for NGEQ.
>>
“I doubt he's got the bollocks for it, but even so, it's a valid enough threat.” Spinning in your chair, you glance at the Fourth's more... prominent assets.

“Yeah, I don't think the Fourth will be a problem. Brunettes aren't my type, anyway.”

“Cryan, you dog, anything that's human and female is your type.”

“Not children,” you protest. “And definitely not fat women. Christ, I can't stand 'em. Like... Like walruses on land. It's horrible.”

“Seriously though, I doubt we need to warn you off the Fourth. You were an officer and a gentleman. You're still a gentleman, aren'tcha?”

[]Yep. Gentleman all the way here. A devilish, heartrendingly handsome gentleman, though.

“Ah, hahaha. No. I wasn't even a gentleman when I was an officer.”

“Christ, can't you even try to maintain the image of the King's Army?”

“I'm not in it, I don't see why I should have to.”

“Principle of the matter, Cryan, principle of the matter.”

“I've never been good with principles, Torstigg. I deal with death. You want love, let me just refer you to the Romance Dep- oh wait, we don't fucking have one, we're killers, you cunt.”

“Jesus, but you're in a shit mood. Not enough booze for breakfast?”

“And shitty dreams,” you confirm. “But in all seriousness, me, a gentleman? Something's wrong with that picture.”

“Well, it's a good thing you never have to talk to the Japanese Self Defense Forces or anyone from the UN. They'd shut us down in a heartbeat if they ever met you.”

“That's why we leave the talking to Katsuragi and Fuyutsuki and the Commander,” you tell him smugly. “I'm a fighter, not a talker.” Then you hang up on him, to prove your point. Norwegian douche bag with his silly fucking fjords and shit.

Itinerary, Fourth's file, talking to your men, all done. Scrolling through your email, you don't see anything of urgency. Reporters requesting an interview regarding an operation five years ago in Paris, a historian wanting your opinion of Monrovia, the new Captain requesting an interview...

Almost shivering on the inside at the thought of meeting with an Internal Affairs man, even if he'd been promoted to Captain of Section Two, you switch to your email on your phone and respectfully decline their requests to talk to you. Paris was still classified- it wasn't everyday you sunk a submarine in the Seine, and Monrovia wasn't talked about out of respect to the dead. Their memories didn't deserve tarnishing by reporters.

When you knock on the new Captain's door, he answers with an eccentric 'Seat yourself in the premises of my office!' You can tell this is going to bad. You enter and seat yourself across his desk from him, and you can't see his face, hidden as it is by his laptop screen. When he looks up, however, you're instantly on the alert. His kindly face is simply a cover to mask his evil Internal Affairs machinations and plots.

“Special Agent! Welcome, welcome. Can I get you anything? Wine, coffee, tea?”

“Tea, sir. I'm feeling properly British this morning.”

“Quite good, quite good. Now, I'm making it a point to meet with all of my Agents, get to know them, so on. I've read your file, or what wasn't heavily redacted, at least!” Here he gives a kindly chuckle, as though he himself used to be an operator.

“Thank you, sir. May I ask what you'd like to know?”

“Quite good, quite good! Your file said you had heavy drinking issues. Will they be a concern in Nevada?”

“No, sir. Doctor's orders are for me to cut back.”

“Excellent, excellent. Do you have any concerns about the regime change here in Section Two?”

[]”Yes sir. I'm quite concerned about what heads you're going to take off in your reorganization and reshuffling of the office.”
[]”No sir. I've a job to do and I'll do it.”

“No sir,” you allow. “I've a job to do and I'll see it done.”

“Excellent,” he booms as he fixes you a cup of tea. “One lump of sugar or two?”

“One lump, sir.”

“Excellent, excellent.” He hands you the cup of tea and you take a sip. Eugh. He put the milk in first.

“So, Special Agent Cryan. I know my investigation into the mole affair was... handled poorly. However, I do believe Captain Thierry, bless him, was compromised.” You cock an eyebrow.

“Really? I find that hard to believe, as he was single and had no daughter for the Russians to abduct, as you say.”

“Ah. It's a dangerous game you're entering, Cryan, and one not wholly suited to man of your... skills and talents.”

“I'm a blunt instrument, sir. Give me a problem and I'll keep hammering away.”

“No, Cryan, you're not. You're far too intelligent to simply be a blunt tool for murder. No, you might not be as sophisticated or educated as most players of this game, but your mind is sharp enough for it. Be very, very careful what and where you ask questions.” You carefully place the tea cup back onto its saucer and swallow back the first things that come to mind.

“Sir,” you say instead, “I'll ask the questions I think necessary, where I think necessary. It'd be better for all of us,” you continue, “if no one had to ask questions that might... Compromise,” you finally settle on, “anyone in Section Two.”
>>
>>33277567
>[]”No sir. I've a job to do and I'll do it.”
I agree that we should not exactly trust this guy after the whole mole ordeal we just went through.
>>
“Quite.” He's quite cold now, and looking you in the eye. “Have a good day, Special Agent.” You nod and carefully exit the Captain's office, breathing a sigh of relief as soon as the door's shut.

You don't like politics and you don't think you ever will.

“Special Agent,” the Captain's secretary says from next to you. “I've just received an email from the NERV-Nevada branch asking you to come out at your earliest possible convenience. Someone's left hints regarding a bomb threat, and considering your former experience, they want you out there as soon as possible.”

“Bugger,” you tell her. “I'll see if I can't hop a cargo plane now. SMITH,” you bellow. “You're riding with me to Nevada. I might need an extra gun. Go pack a bag, bitch.” He sighs and does as you order. You find an elevator and begin the descent to your room, while you shoot a text to Torstigg and Nakimura.

'Going out of country. Text if you need me.' For the lovely Captain Katsuragi, you call her directly, even as your mind begins working overtime.

“Captain,” you say after you get her voicemail. “I'm going out of town. Please give my regards to the Children and tell them I'll be back soon enough. Later,” you hang up. Captain Karling talks to you, you get involved in word fencing with him, you indirectly threaten each other... You're called to Nevada ahead of schedule. Yeah, that's not good. Karling probably thinks he's being smart, but he's an Internal Affairs puke. He's used to people listening to what he says on that alone.

You call Shinji, first. “I'm going out of the country,” you tell him. “I'll meet you for ice cream at the parlor six blocks from the school at, uh,” you check the time, “one-thirty. Bring Rei.” He puts up a fight, not wanting to skip class, but you manage to convince him. He agrees to bring Rei.

When you arrive at your room, you set about packing. Since Nevada's the desert, you pack boots and cargo pants. Dialing Smith, you check your holdout pistol, a Walter PPK.

“Get us a C-141, Smith. Speed's of the essence. Once we get in the air. Take your time, I'll meet you at the airfield in a few hours.”

“Affirmative,” he says cheerfully, since you won't be driving him anywhere. Goddamn you wish you were back with the SAS or that German mercenary outfit parachuting into places you weren't supposed to be. This secret agent stuff is horse shit.

(1/2)
>>
In a dark part of your mind, you suspect this is an attempt on your life. You don't know why, you don't know how, but you suspect Karling suspects you suspect him of setting Thierry up. A sick way to play office politics, but Karling is a sick bastard. You have to be, to be Internal Affairs. Yeah, an out of the blue bomb threat? It'd be just like an Internal Affairs puke to try to demonstrate how big and bad he is to the rest of Section Two by forcing a Special Agent out of the country a day and a half early on a whim.

Shrugging it off for now, you take your now packed bag and head for the motor pool, where your beloved Indian Chief Classic sits, awaiting you like a loyal steed awaits a knight. Well, not exactly a knight. More like a blackguard of the worst sort. Which some knights were, you muse. You strap the bag to the back, then saddle up and head for the ice cream parlor you promised to meet the Kids.

Traffic is a bitch, and you wind up ten minutes late. Both the Children are sitting at a booth, across from each other. You order a cone, with two scoops, and slide in next to Shinji.

“Sup,” you greet.

“H-hello. I'm glad you're okay! I didn't know liver damage could take so long to reverse.”

“Me either,” you tell him. That is odd, you ponder.

“Agent Cryan,” Ayanami greets you with her typical detachedness.

“Miss Ayanami. Enjoying your ice cream?” It looks like she's picked something reddish. Strawberry? Red velvet?

“Yes.”

[]”You know I'm headed out of the country, but the timeline's been moved up. As soon as we finish here I'm catching a plane to Nevada.”
[]”I've gotta go, mate, and I suspect I might not be coming back. Wanted to offer you some last advice, if that is the case. If I do make it back, you can pretend I gave it to you over drinks or golf.”

“You know I'm headed out of the country, but the timeline's been moved up. As soon as we finish here, I'm catching a plane to Nevada. If you get into a fight with a guy, kick him in the nuts and run.”

“A-all right,” he agrees, hiding his face behind his ice cream.

“With luck, I'll be returning with the Fourth Child and Unit-04. Meaning you'll be moved into new quarters, soon. You're man of the house. If you've gotta lead, don't be afraid to ask someone for advice. I did, when I was learning. You'll never learn otherwise. Keep your grades up, be a gentleman. That kind of thing.” You lick your ice cream cone, chocolate, and ponder what to say to Rei.

Finally, you give up, and settle for, “What are you eating, and keep an eye out for Shinji. If you don't have each other's backs, then who do you have?”

“Orange sherbert. Yes.” Ruffling both their hair, you finish your cone.

“Right. Be good, don't do anything I wouldn't do, look out for each other, etc, etc.” Standing, you turn and as you walk out, deposit your trash in a bin.

Mounting the Indian, you head for the airfield. Traffic's still a bitch, so you get there about three, and find Smith waiting for you angrily. “Jesus, what took you so long?”

(1/2)
>>
“I had to find a woman. I can't fly without a woman,” you lie easily, and deposit the Indian with the airfield commander. Carrying your bag onto the C-141 picked out for you two, you select a seat and settle in to try and catch a nap.

The Starlifter begins taxiing off its pad and onto the runway, beginning the take off run. The steady thrum of the engines is comforting. You selected a C-141 because it had the fastest cruise time of all the military cargo lifters, if not the best fuel capacity. You'll probably have to stop over in Hawaii to refuel, but that will be a minor issue.

What catches your attention is the explosion behind you. Swearing, you rise from the seat and head for the rear ramp, which you drop. The load master looks at you in surprise, then grimaces as he raises it again.

“That C-130 was supposed to be yours for your flight. Lucky, I guess. Must've been old ordnance inside it. Shoddy work by the load master, though.”

“Right,” you agree quietly. “Shoddy work and old ordnance.” That could have been you. You've had some close calls before, some closer than that. But Karling's on your side, for fuck's sake. If it was Karling. You're harboring doubts about the mole situation, now. Crossing yourself, you turn from the load master and take your seat once more.

“Huh,” Smith comments four seats down and across the aisle. “Wasn't expecting that.”

“Shut up and go to sleep.”

Moving down to the load master's seat as the plane hits altitude and begins to level off to cruise, you get his attention. “Which load master's plane was that,” you inquire.

“Some American's, everyone knows they suck at taking care of ordnance. Especially naval,” he shakes his head. He's probably referring to the USS Forrestal fire back in the 60's, during Vietnam, an abject lesson to armed forces around the world on proper explosives maintenance and storage.

“Right? How come no one went behind him and checked?”

“I dunno, someone's always supposed to, so that never happens, but maybe the guy on duty skipped his shift or slept in late? We're only human, after all.”

“Makes sense. Once I had a grenade go off about two feet from where my hand would have been, if I hadn't ducked back behind the wall. Sometimes people just get lazy,” you confirm to him.

“Sucks it's gotta be you guys on the line getting the short stick, though.”

“Yep. I'm used to it, though.”

“It sucks, though. You guys are out there getting into gunfights and shit.” You chew the shit with him a little more, telling him about Rio de Janiero, and in exchange he tells you about dropping food and water into Brazil, after Second Impact.

When you finally finish exchanging stories, you shake his hand and head for the cockpit. The seat next to the pilot is empty, and you're sure that's breaking some sort of regulation, but you take it anyway.
>>

“Howdy,” she greets with some sort of Southern drawl from the USA.

“Howdy,” you shoot back. “How's the weather look?”

“Pretty good, actually. We shoulda left an hour ago, but because we didn't we'll just be tootin' right along the outer edge of the storm, some kinda tropical depression.”

“Sounds good to me. If, uh, if I needed a friend that could fly cargo, would you be willing?”

“Sure as shit, you bet your biscuits, Agent. I don't get to fly enough as it is, and my baby misses me when I'm not in her.” You don't touch the lewd implications of that, and merely nod your agreement.

“I know how it is. A woman and her plane, a man and his motorbike- I know.”

“Yep! Well, you'll let me get back to flyin' this here cargo hauler.” You nod again, and retreat back to the cargo area.

We arrive well ahead of schedule, they might not even be expecting us. Or they might be expecting that we're dead. We can use both of those things to our advantage. NERV bases are big places, it's not too hard to squirrel away a person or two here and there.

As long as we tell the Nevada commander and Gendo we're there, but operating covertly, and as long as Gendo sends over another agent that isn't compromised (or Nevada assigns someone who isn't compromised) as our "replacement" (backup), we come out on top.

I'm just saying you know, NERV is a big base. We're not due there for a day and a half anyway. That's more than enough time to find a secure line back to base. Hell, even to Rei so she can pass on a word to Gendo. Gendo's not dumb, he doesn't need to know much to cover our asses.

Keying the mic on your headset, you ask the pilot her name. “Lee,” she drawls. “Yep, that Lee. I'll ask you'll keep it quiet, please.”

“Yeah, no problem. When we pass over another island with an airfield, can you pretend to have an emergency so my friend and I can parachute out the back?”

“Shit, falsifying an emergency? Haven't done that in forever! Sounds like fun.”

“Thanks.”

“No problem, haven't made an air traffic controller shit himself since flight training and I inverted a C-130.”

On that pleasant note, you turn to Smith and tell him the plan. “Don't text anyone. We're dead, now. Got it?”

“Got it, sir,” he nods, and then you lean back and try to sleep.

The hum of the engines, the sound of Lee singing Johnny Cash, all serve to lull you to sleep. Mercifully, you don't dream. Or if you do, you don't remember them. Small mercies, but you'll take them.

You wake to a crick in your neck and the load master shaking you awake, with a parachute for you. “Altitude we're gonna let you out at is six angels.”

“Thanks,” you tell him. He shakes off your thanks and motions you to the ramp, now opening as Lee begins her descent and starts faking engine trouble. Strapping the parachute onto your chest, you shove Smith out before you jump. With no instrumentation but your watch and a finely honed set of instincts, you begin counting the seconds. At what you judge to be the right time, you release, and Smith does the same.

The chutes catch, and you descend onto Iwo Jima about two and a half hours after you left Japan. Lee was better than her word- she dropped you just outside the airfield, where there's sure to be a pay phone you can use.

The airfield at Iwo Jima is small, meant to service military cargo planes and fighters. That's okay. You don't need something to land a 747. The payphone is dinky and old, but that's fine, too. You shove some change into it and dial a number dimly remembered from your mercenary days with the Zerberus Battalion.

“Ja? Wer ist das? Wenn es Sie, ist Katherine, ich schneide Ihre Kehle, Sie liegend Hure!”

“We did,” he allows.

“Right. And who's still alive?”

“You are,” he allows reluctantly.

“So you're going to fly your ass to Iwo Jima, and then you're going to fly me to California.”

“Do I want to ask what you are doing in California?”

“No. No you don't. It's going to consist of something violent and illegal, probably.”

“Guten! Find an abandoned airfield in California for us to land at, we're going to be coming in underneath the American radar coverage.”

“Right, right,” and then your time is up and you slam the phone back into the cradle. “We're going into the forest, Smith. C'mon, then.” You lead him back into the forest, but deeper this time. Glad you're wearing cargo pants and boots and not the suit Smith is suffering in, you find a depression made by a fallen tree. Wiggling into it, you settle down to wait, and Smith does the same.

“We all do, Smith. We all do. Some more than others.”

“I suspect you're the some, sir.”

“Probably. At this rate I fully expect to be dead before it matters.”

“You sound like my older brother. He was dead before thirty-five.”

“Fantastic,” you declare. “I'll try to hit thirty-six for you,” you tell him with a grim smile. “Besides,” you add. “You've gotta be a special kind of crazy to join an organization filled with crazy spooks that use child soldiers to kill giant aliens.”

“Heh,” he grins. “True.”

“Right, what time is it?”

“We've got about an hour left. You want to play a game?”

“No. I'm going back to sleep. You can sleep on the plane.”

“Yes sir,” he sighs, and you settle back for another nap. You don't dream during this one.

When you wake again, Johann is crouching over you, carrying a wrapped bundle that looks distinctly like three AK-74s and chest rigs.

“Greetings, sleeping beauty!”

“Johann, I will fucking CUT YOU.”

“No need to get ass hurt, my friend. Come, let us embark upon my magical plane~”

“Please God, don't start with the magical fucking plane bullshit.”

“Just because you are not in love with my C-130 does not mean I cannot be.”

“Fine, you love your fucking plane, let's just fuel up and get out of here.”

Eventually you manage to wrangle Smith and Johann Kerenz to Johann's C-130, where you slip into the co-pilot's seat and Smith finds a place to sit.

“Where to, friend Declan?”

[]California. Straight in, as it were.
[]New Mexico. Going around never hurt.

She faked an emergency and we jumped out of the back of the plane.

When someone asks, she'll say she jettisoned her cargo to lighten the weight on her plane and it was unrecoverable. Broke up on impact. And since only you, Smith, Lee, and the load master know you were on her C-141, all she has to do is back file a cargo reporting reporting some kind of munitions and no one will question her.
>>
>>33283662
They, somehow, shoot down Jo's - fuck him, he's Jo now - precious C-10 and, while he weeps over its loss, Smith asks Dec how they're going to deal with all the crazies in L.A. Well...the Post Impact crazies.
>Simple. We shoot them.

She's from the South and inverted a C-130 once. This ain't her first rodeo, she knows how to falsify cargo reports and stuff.

Besides, as far as she knows you had orders to do that stuff.

If we're positive that only our men are monitoring Rei's line, we should contact her and tell her to let Gendo know we'll be arriving in Nevada another way. Gendo will understand.

Nevada captain... honestly, I'm not sure. We should probably let him know. Eventually. In a way that has the least amount of people aware of it.

>>33283754

“Mexico. We'll ditch your silly plane at an airfield near the border, then cross it in the night. Once we get to Arizona, we'll find a car and take it to Nevada. Simple. Not too clever. It's classic SAS.”

“It's also liable to get us shot as cartel weapon smugglers, you know. We ARE carrying three Kalashs and enough ammunition to fight a company, Declan.”

“Yes, Johann, I fucking know. Just shut up and fly, all right? We'll call you leaving me for dead quits after this, got it?”

“Got it loud and clear, boss man. Also, your field craft sucks. I found you fifteen minutes after setting down.”

“Fuck you, Johann, I've been in a city for the past two years. You can eat a fucking dick.”

“Only yours, Declan~”

“Goddamn it Johann.”

The C-130 lifts off, and then you turn to look at the cargo area. Inside is a glorious, glorious piece of equipment. It's a 1943 Willys Jeep.

“Johann, you glorious son of a bitch where did you find that Jeep?”

“Abandoned in a mineshaft in the Eastern Ukraine. The Soviets ditched her, trying to switch over from American Lend-lease equipment to all Soviet made equipment. Their loss, right?”

“Right. How much do you want for it?”

“For you? I will take a favor in exchange. Assuming she survives her coming ordeal.”

[]”A favor it is. I get to decide if it's one I want to give or not, though.”
[]”No thanks. I don't want to owe you anything.”

[]”A favor it is. I get to decide if it's one I want to give or not, though.”

I'm sad, because I know we can't sneak over the border in that thing. Even if we do, we'll have to ditch it outside of Nerv. Even if we conceal it safe, we'll probably have to emergency bail out of Nevada and leave it behind.

The slim chance we get to keep this beauty and driving it around japan like post WW2 McAurther is if NOTHING GOES WRONG and we can convince Lee to fly it back to japan for us.
>>
>>33284144
Johann is a mercenary, first and foremost. He understands that switching sides in the middle of a fight is a bad idea, and that now that he's backing your play, he's with you until you're all dead or you let him go.

Also, it helps the Zerberus Battalion left you for dead. He does feel really bad about that. In so far as he can feel, of course.
>>
>>33284183

Right. Can we do the whiskey order thing.

We'll promise to clear our tab when we get bsck.
>>
>>33284183
Yeah, I'm leaning towards "no," but it looks like that ship's sailed. Given that "the three of you can slip over easily" is now "liable to get us shot," I don't think it matters much.

“A favor it is, but I get to decide if it's one I want to give or not, though.”

“Fair enough. Cannot compromise the job, ja?”

“Ja, sehr gut. I need to make a phone call. You have a sat-phone I can use?”

“Ja, natürlich. Check the container behind your seat.” You nod and unbuckle yourself from the seat, turning and opening the military-green hard-box that was nestled between your seat and the bulkhead.

Retrieving the sat-phone, you dial Tricky Dicky at Paddy's Lament. He picks up on the third ring, swears at you, and then sighs.

“What, Dec? What could you possibly fucking need at this unholy time?”

“I need you to send a bottle of Glen Knockanamie to Captain Misato Katsuragi, NERV. Fifteen year, if you please. With a note. 'Tell the Commander Dec said “hi”.' I'll pay my tab when I get back.”

“You fucking better, you piece of shit.”

“I will, I will!” You hang up before he can begin swearing at you, and Smith catches your attention.

“Sir, I don't think driving a vintage World War II Jeep across the border will go over well. We're more likely to be riddled with bullets than not.” Shit, he's probably right.

“Right. Well, we'll leave it with the C-130 and we'll find something Mexican or American to drive across the border.”

“Good idea, sir.”

“Thanks. Good on you for spotting that we'd be killed quite quickly.” You shoot him a thumbs up, then turn back to take your seat beside Johann. “Fucking cunt,” you add quietly.

d) how to get Unit04 out of Nevada
