[x] Well, we're not done yet, let's see what's in the other doors.

“Well, we're not done yet.” You point out, pivoting to leave. “Let's see what's behind the other doors.”

She nods, her light flashing around to play right in front of you.

“This place seems pretty sturdy.” She points out, looking around at the low, half-barrel ceilings and the heavy doors you pass through. “I wonder where they were figuring the Squiddies would land?”

You shrug. “A lot of that is still classified, but I'm willing to be London, with attacks on most of the major airbases.” You say.

“Why's that?”

You pause a second before answering. “Well, you know they managed to get a lodgement in east Anglia and along the southern coast, only to get kicked back to the sea after a couple of months because what was left of the 8th in the ETO was re-tasked to tactical strikes at lower altitudes, and the invasion armies were available for immediate use.”

Mav nods. “We did study some history, but I was more interested in the war of northern aggression.” She says.

“Figures. Anyway, I figure they'd have 'learned their lesson' and gone after the place that hurt them the worst, and dropped a lot of forces on Britain. London, East Anglia, Scotland, all along the north...” You shake your head. “Be an interesting history scenario, a second invasion in the fifties. Most of the islands would be a radioactive hellhole, had it happened.”

“But barin wouldn't be.” Mav points out. “We're a couple miles from anything big.”

>>
“Shit, barin probably would have been one of the first places they hit.” You say. “The five oh one gave the squiddies in this corridor absolute hell, especially after they integrated. This fallout shelter probably wouldn't have done a damn thing against a direct hit, maybe a near miss, but...”

Mav nods. “Kinda gives me the creeps. So you're saying anyone here woulda died?”

“If the castle had been hit directly? Oh, absolutely.” You say. “Standard back then was big bombs, cos you didn't know if you'd be able to hit exact or not, and the boom needed to be enough to knock out the target even if you missed by a couple miles.” You look around and shake your head.

“There's no way we're underneath enough rock to protect this place.” you say, flatly. “But if Barin wasn't hit directly, then it would have probably been enough. All they'd have needed to do was wait out the worst of the fallout and take an evacuation ship to wherever, and it'd have been fine.”

The door in the rear leads to another hallway, similar to the one out front, though this one, like the room before it, is covered in white tile and features a rounded ceiling. Three doors line the left side, while the right has two to either side of another hallway- you can just make out the turn with your flashlights. The hall terminates in another door, all of which are closed. It looks somewhat cleaner in here, though that's probably more because it's been sealed up better than the earlier rooms.

“More doors. Well, where to?” Mav says.

[] End of the hall, let's get all the way to the back and work forward.
[] Let's keep heading down the right side, then we'll go around to the left on our way back out.

[x] Let's keep heading down the right side, then we'll go around to the left on our way back out.

Deciding that sweeping the right first will be the best option, you open the first door, shining your flash light around the room and taking it in.

“Oh, cool.” Mav says, brushing past you to step in as well, her light playing over the contents. “Classroom?”

You nod. “Yeah, looks like it. Pretty good shape, too. Bet most everything's empty though.”

“Buzzkill.“ Mav remarks sourly, going around behind the desk and opening up drawers. The look on her face tells you that, despite her hopes, you were right.

“They probably never used the place, so I bet there's nothing to find in here.” You say, looking around.

“Bookshelf?” Mav asks, and you turn to where her light is pointing- the bookshelf, surprisingly, is still stocked, the books' spines faded a bit, but they look almost new otherwise.

“Oh, neat. Man, these are really old.” She says, walking over. “Published... nineteen forty eight. Wow.” She's got one opened up, and looking at it, you can see the tell-tales of a textbook, though not one you suspect you'd see anywhere else.

“What is it?” You ask, walking over.

“Magical primer, for middle grades. So I guess, what? Maybe about the fifteen and sixteen year old classes, somewhere in there.” She says. “Not the basic bullshit anymore, there's some theory and stuff in those.”

>>
>>33284383
yep. they've actually pumped some good stuff out, like lupin as an assassin servant.
but mobius as the jegan ace has me hooked right now.
>>
She pauses. “Well, there is now. In this, who knows?”

“Kinda neat.” You say, putting the book back on the shelf. “Anything else?”

“Doesn't look like it. Just text books.” She says, sounding more down. “That really sucks, I thought there'd be something here.”

You shrug. “Well, we're getting further back, now, so maybe we'll find something. Let's check the next room and then we can look down that hallway, if it's not too long.”

She nods, stepping back out into the hall. “I wonder, though, if they just left those down here because it wasn't worth the effort of hauling them back out, or if because they forgot about them?”

You shrug. “Hard to tell. Most of these places were decommissioned after the UNEDF's plan changed from fighting here on earth to nuclear intercept in space, but that didn't happen till the mid sixties, so who knows?”

She nods. “So, hallway first or next room?”

[] Next room on the right, then the hallway
[] Hallway first, then the next room.
[] Next room, we'll get the hallway later.
>>
>>33284391

On the other hand, it decanonized Gigantis' Counterattack once and for all, thus bumping the UC's sanity ratio by 36.8% would be more, but, well, Victory. And Turn A, eventually.

And I dunno, the only thing about it that didn't make sense was why Zeon was ever presented in an even slightly positive light given their history of war crimes and intention to continue. Yes they're cool but they're space-Nazis.

I was just flabbergasted when one of the officers handwaved away the fact that a top-secret weapon was YET AGAIN being piloted by an annoying teenager by saying it was the Gundams' "destiny". MAYBE YOU SHOULD FUCKING DESTINE THEM FOR SOME TRAINED PILOTS. WHAT IS SECURITY?
>>
>>33284693
Gundam has never been all that realistic. At the core, at the most basic level, it's a POWER OF YOUTH story.
>>
>>33284693
>what if gundam...
honestly, I guffaw'd the whole time.

>i admit i am a gundam fan, but it does make you pause and think... where the hell is base security when you need it?
>>
>>33284749
The books were pretty realistic if you ignore the whole newtype thing.
>>
>>33284771
Noooooot really. There's some elements here and there they got right, but in general they're still pretty far from 'realism'.
>>
>>33284453
>banagher
Plus, this might be one of the worst names for japanese people to pronounce
>>33284749
Of course it's never been realistic in the slightest, but out of all the things that could've broken my immersion, it was always that annoying, whingy, pacifist teenagers would somehow find themselves inside of the Federation's newest and greatest superweapon. HOW? Like...you'd think they'd fix that shit after a time or two, but noo!
>>
>>33284693

>>
>>33284436

[X] Next room, we'll get the hallway later.
>>
>>33284816
It's a significant point that his psychic naked-time powers were never terribly strong.

Also he was kind of a child soldier given the age he joined the military so yeah.
>>
Should we take a textbook for Merlin? Maybe some old theories will kickstart something awesome.
>>
>>33284794
Kids changing the world with Giant Robots is like a central theme of Gundam, for better or worse. It'd be strange of Unicorn WASN'T piloted by a whiny pacifist. The message of Unicorn is more or less: even if war is inevitable, keep questioning it. Keep hoping for a better solution. Fight if you must, but always strive for something better.

Also: Adults fuck everything up, like they have in pretty much every UC Gundam story. It's up to youth to fix the fuckups of the adults.

>>33284817
Technically possible doesn't make it realistic. It's technically possible to build a dyson sphere around our sun, that doesn't mean it's a realistic thing to achieve.
>>
>>33284863
zounds like a plan, ja?

because the japs don't have the "djur" sound combo really. you got djah, djii, and djuu. so your options are
ba-na-djaa-ru
ba-na-djii-ru
or just
ba-na-djii

if that makes any sense
>>33284856
He could beat basically anyone that wasn't Amuro, couldn't he?
>>33284879
I just still can't get over the whole "fuck it, give our secret superweapon to this angsty teen, he's sure to use it better than anyone else" policy
>>
>>33284906
I will never understand the like for that song.
>>
>>33284693
That gif is fucking amazing. Never change /m/.

Also after a certain number of their secret prototype super weapons fell into the hands of annoying teenagers the military probably wrote protocols for how to deal with said brats. You get used to it, you know?

Of course Unicorn suggests they subcontracted it to NERV, so it doesn't work.

>>33284817

>>
>>33284927
In Unicorn's case, Bannana's dad basically prepped him to use the NTD system at a young age, and the system locks itself to the first pilot it accepts. The feddies had no choice but to leave it in his hands if they wanted to get to the box.
>>
>>33284927
Char trashed every non-Amuro because he was jut that fucking good a pilot, not through space-hax.

The space-hax let him keeep up with psychic bullshit but not a lot else.

Normally you'd be right, except in the UC timeline it winds up paying off for the Federation in spades. Sure, they lose the RX-78-2, but they wind up with the White Devil and effective control over said unit, as well as, you know, avoiding the obliteration of the Earth's surface via colony drop.

See also: The rest of the UC timeline, where teenagers in said super-units solve problems both in and out of said super prototypes that adults could not.

[x] Next room on the right, then the hallway

You nod. “Yeah, let's check out the next room, then we'll head down the hallway.”

“Ya know, this place is pretty big.” Mav points out. “I wonder if it was designed to house everyone assigned to the castle in it's heyday?”

“Could have been.” You say, opening the door to another classroom- well, the castle was an academy, apparently, for a couple years, post war, so that makes sense. Mav makes stright for the bookshelf.

“Anything neat?” You ask.

She shrugs. “More textbooks, more advanced stuff, some nonfiction, bit of fiction.”

“What kind?” You ask.

“Romance novels, couple of the early witchcomix.” She says, sounding bored.

“Early witchcomix?” You ask. “Here, lemme see.”

“Suit yourself.” She says, moving out of the way. “Why do they matter?”

“If they're still in good condition- like this-” You say, pulling one out carefully and opening it up, “Collectors will lose their shit for them. Couple grand at auction, I bet.”

“So we found something?” Mav asks, excited.

You nod, pulling down one of the text books and using it to protect the witchcomix as you put them in your pack. “Yeah, yeah definitely.” you say. “Let's see those nonfiction books.”

“Mostly stuff on the war, no shock there, right?” She says, handing them to you. You open them up, checking their publication dates.

“No, no shock there, but some of these are first editions, and rare, to boot.” You say. “Like this one? You don't find many copies of this anymore, especially not translated, almost all of the originals were in German, it's hard to find English copies.”

“I'd have thought they wrote more.” Mav says, taking the book and flipping through it before handing it back to you, to stow in your pack.”

“Child soldiers tend not to.” You say, kind of grimly.

Mav whacks you in the back of the head for it, too. “Who the hell you callin a child soldier?”

“Not you, dipshit.” You say, rubbing the back of your head. “But goose? Merlin? Natalya?”

“Oh. Yeah, I guess. Good point.” She says.

“Plus, I'm not even sure you know how to write.” You say, stepping out of the room. “I mean, southern schools....”

“Har-har.” She says. “I've got a pistol Frank, and they wouldn't find your body for a long, long time.”

“Meh. I'm sure they'd ask questions if you came back alone.” You say. Anyway, let's continue.”

You step back out of the room and turn to the left, looking down the hallway. It ends in a door, and to either side are short halls with a door at each end.

“Right to left?” You ask, and mav nods.

The first door opens into a much smaller room, with a single bedframe and a small living area, with a plain rug, a somewhat decayed easy chair next to an old, old radio and a lamp, a desk with it's chair neatly pushed in, and a very small kitchenette, with a two-burner stove and a small sink.

“Headmisteress' quarters, maybe?” You ask, and mav nods.

“Yeah, probably. Pretty small, but if everyone else was in communal rooms, this probably be a luxury.” She says.

The L-shaped room is about the size of a small apartment, and, judging by the arrangement of the furniture, was never occupied.

“Kinda surprised,” Mav says, looking around, “That this place has been abandoned as long as it has, ain't no one come down here and mess around.”

“Define mess around?”

She looks back over her shoulder at you. “Oh, you know. You're in an academy the entire school year, no boys to go around, a girl gets lonely, ya know?”

“I figured that's what you meant.” You say, looking around.

“I mean, I'd have killed for a place like this. Way back out of the way, secluded, you could spend hours down here, easy.” She continues. “Just steal a mattress roll and a couple blankets and pillows, and bam. Nice little place.”

“Huh. Well, see anything interesting?” You say, not seeing even a bookshelf.

Mav shakes her head. “Naw. Let's go.”

The next room, much larger, probably would have been the communal living area for the students. Two rows of bunkbeds line the walls, with lockers behind them. In the center of the room are several tables, and at the far end are a pair of couches near a bookshelf, with another, larger radio on one side.

Mav beelines for the bookshelf, while you shine your light around, seeing nothing. “Ya know, I'm surprised there's no cobwebs down here.” You say, having just realized that.

“No bugs, maybe?” Mav supplies, distractedly.

You shrug. “Yeah, maybe. Just expected to see a few, you know?”

She nods, and you continue to look around. Other than some faded posters, there's nothing else, and you join her by the bookshelf in short order. “what have we got?” You ask.

“Old magazines, couple more witchcomix.” She says, shaking her head. “Bunch of books, but I don't know if it's worth bothering.”

Looking over them quickly doesn't reveal anything, though you add the witchcomix to your bag. “Nothing I see, but we can come back later.” You say, shaking your head.

The last room on the end of the hall is a slightly nicer communal area, with single beds and more space between them, but otherwise largely the same.

“Instructors?” You guess aloud, and Mav nods.

“Yeah, probably. Let's skip it, probably nothing here.” She says.

[] Alright, done. So end of the hall?

[x] Well, won't take but a minute to look, let's check it out.

“Well, it won't take us long to look, and we're already here.” You say, looking around the room. “Let's poke through real quick, see what we can find.”

Mav shrugs, heading to the back corner, where a bookcase stands. “If you say so. I guess there'll probably be more comics back there, they were really popular for a while.” She says.

The rest of the room proves empty, and other than a few romance novels, surprisingly, the bookshelf does too- not even a single comic.

“Guess they expected to bring down their own books?” Mav asks, shrugging. “Whatever. I was right.”

“So you were.” You admit. “Alright, on to the next one.”

The door at the end of the hall is heavy- almost as much so as the one in the front room. Inside is a metal staircase going down several flights- your light only barely reaches the bottom, you make it to be two or three stories, at least.

“Wow. Wonder what's down there?” Mav asks.

“Probably the machine rooms and all the stuff that makes this place tick.” You say, gingerly testing the stairs.

“Maybe we should save this for later? That shit collapses out from under you... “ she trails off. “Man, I don't want to have to be the one that tells Ice her favorite fantas- I mean, pilot, died exploring some forgotten fallout shelter in the basement of the castle.”

The stairs look- and feel- sturdy, but you know that even that can be deceptive- even though the air here is cool and dry, there could be corrosion, and one bad step could easily mean a lethal fall.

[] You're right, let's check the last couple doors and head out.

FFS. A New Hope had a second theatrical release in 1997, two years after X2 came out in the states.

If you were enough of a nerd to own a SNES and to later see the prequel trilogy, you were enough of a nerd to have seen the Star Wars movies at about the same time, particularly ANH, which was broadcast on TV multiple times.

[x] You're right, let's check the last couple doors and head out.

You pause, then nod. “Yeah, yeah, you're right. Let's just check the last couple doors and head out.”

You turn back, closing the door to the stairwell behind you, and opening the first door on your right- the left as you'd entered the hallway.

“It's... a head.” Mav says, crestfallen. Rows of showers stretch towards the back, and you're sure there's a bunch of commodes around here somewhere. “Welp. Moving right along.”

You laugh and follow her back into the hall, and into the next room.

“Sickbay?” Mav asks, looking around.

You nod. “Yeah, looks like. Kind of weird, wouldn't they have healwitches?”

Mav shrugs. “Who knows? It's not very well equipped, I bet. Probably just basic stuff for the day and some painkillers.”

“All long, long expired.” You say. “Anything interesting?”

“Nah, not really.” Mav says. “If we were into the salvage business, maybe, but nothing good here.”

“Lame. Alright, on to the next one.”

The next room proves to be a lounge- the bookshelf here, too, is frustratingly empty of anything of value, on;y a few magazines.

“That's it for this hall, huh?” Mav says.

You nod. “Yeah, just the two doors in the front room up there and that's it.” She nods.

The first is an empty supply closet- Steel racks holding a few boxes with spare lightbulbs, or a package of batteries. Some spare army issue ammunition pouches and a sling round out the collection, but nothing of value waits here either.

>>
>>33286583
o-one of what??
>>
“Oh well.” Mav says. “We probably found enough loot for a day, anyway.”

You shrug. “Could have been something downstairs, who knows?”

“Yeah, well. I'm not going down those steps and I'm not telling any of those three you busted your skull trying. I'll find some rope, we can try again later, ok?” She says, warning you.

You nod. “Yeah, sure. Let's check the last and get out of here.”

The last room turns out to be another storage locker- in much the same state as the one prior to it, with the empty shelves dully reflecting the light from your flashlights.

“Oh well.” Mav repeats. “I guess it's time to go get chow anyway. I'll beggar off the chase job tomorrow, and if kitty does too, then she and I can head back down here and get started setting it up.”

“I'll take a look for a hack when I get the chance.” You say, “But I don't know when that's going to be.”

Mav nods. “Well, sooner would be better than later, but you've got you some time. Let's go get some chow, though, I'm fucking starved.”

“Yeah, agreed.” You say. Damn, you're probably going to have to deal with leftovers. Oh well, you think, thinking of the comics in your pack. At least you probably made a couple thousand dollars for missing it. Not a bad trade, all in all.

Ok! and that's it for the night.

The thread turned out kind of different than I expected, but that's ok, that's one of the things I actually really like. I ended up making most of this up as I went along.

Sorry for the slowdown there at the end, I was getting kinda tired and hungry, but decided we were close enough for me to finish out the thread then go get some food and go to bed. I probably could have done it between updates as well, but whatever, haha.

As usual, hope you guys enjoyed, and we'll be back next week at the usual time (hopefully). till then guys, cheers!

You mean the VN? You're right that the end is technically the true-route end, but it didn't lend itself well to the anime format.
>>
>>33287171
Now I imagine her having those instant cameras cursing capitalist ingenuity as she makes a small photobook of her progress to blurred or messed up photos of frank to her more successful ones especially ones without the harlots (which is rare)

Does that mean headpats won't be enough for her anymore?

oh, I see but I think she starts picking up the hobby at Barin and seeing in Russia its hard to come by especially for her, she curses the tools she is stuck with.

You may be right but most likely for the lack of pictures she has of herself which are 'unacceptable' to combine with the one she has of her love

i imagine h\she only has pictures of herself back in the testing area/academy
