You are Regis, the butler of the Zenith-caste Solar Exalted Maka. And you have no idea where your mistress is.

Sure, she often leaves for one reason or another without requiring your presence or assistance, but she usually lets you know that.

It's not like you're worried about her, of course. She's an Exalted, she can take care of herself perfectly fine. Right?

You know she left, during the night, to talk to the Abyssal Exalted lurking around town. You also heard - from some guards at the castle - that she returned, so it's not like she was captured or anything. But it seems she disappeared right afterwards: no one has seen her since dawn.

Now, it's about late morning, and most chores are taken care of. The servants of Tianna Castle are skilled and efficient, and there seems to be no need for you.

In short, you have nothing to do.

You could try and use this time to figure out where Maka disappeared to, or try and find some way to make yourself useful. Or you could consider it a break and have fun as long as you're free.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble recently Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She's in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata, an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and the Realm is probably planning to get rid of you.
But things are also looking up. You have gathered a lot of allies, have a powerful Manse under construction, and are unifying Tianna in a great nation under your overwhelming charisma.

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=zenith

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

>Twitter?
@exaltedfag

Also, a few updates on my situation:

I'm very busy with preparations for my journey to England, and after that I'll be even more busy with actually working there. I'll try to get some threads in before I leave, but once I go, I'll have to take a break from the quest until October, when hopefully I'll be back to March-April posting rates, since I'll have once again what are my ideal conditions for questing.

As usual, I encourage everyone following this quest to keep an eye on my twitter for updates.

Who are you kidding? You ARE worried about Maka. The fact that she's an Exalted AND your mistress doesn't help with that. You wonder what's happening, and if the Abyssals somehow have something to do with this.

...But, the truth is that there's not a lot that you can do. You're just a mortal and a servant, and you don't even know where to start. You've asked around, no one knows, what next?

You sigh, reassuring yourself that's she's certainly fine. She punched a Behemoth, after all. Is there anything she can't handle?

You resolve to spend your time for yourself, and just keep your eyes and ears open. For now, you'll just wait.

So... how should you spend this sudden and unexpected vacation?

First of all, Millian. At this hour of the day, she's usually tidying up Maka's room, and should be almost done.

You head on location and knock on the door out of habit, and, as expected, Millian's voice replies from inside: "Mistress Maka is away."

"I know." You respond, opening and entering. The room is perfectly clean and in order. You're not sure if that's because Millian did a good job as always, or simply because Maka didn't sleep here. You never know, with her. "Any idea where she went?"

The maid shakes her head as she finishes to inspect a closet. "Wasn't she out dealing with Abyssals in town?"

"She returned later that night, but no one knows where she went after that." Right, she was probably already asleep at that hour.

"So she disappeared inside the castle." She notes, before blushing slightly at the thought of the implications. "...Again?"

"...No, I don't think she went on some of her... "adventures". I would have known."

Short pause as her stern gaze pierces through you. "Do you spy on her?"

That's... not what you meant. But you're not going to walk out if this without giving an answer, it seems.

(Social + Zenith = 1 4 = Botch!)

You stare back at her right in the eyes, puff your chest out, breathe in deeply, and like the real man you are, you reply, brimming with confidence:

"Er... um. Well. Y- yes?"

That sounded better in your head.

"...I'm her butler, you know." You add, defensively.

"...Yes. I know." She sighs. You thought she'd be angry, but apparently knowing that just made her... sad? Why? And why does talking with women feel like a minefield sometimes?

"I meant that I need to-"

"Can we drop the subject?" She asks, slamming the closet door, face completely flushed.

Yeeep. Definitely a mine. You need to steer this conversation somewhere else, fast.

"Well, partly." Before she can reply, you add: "After all, she received Maka's Tiger Warrior Training as well, and to a greater extent than either of us. I wanted to see if I can learn something from her. Besides, we should be in touch. You know, just normal courtesy. We're all on the same side, after all."

This seems to put her at ease.

The two of you leave the castle and take a peaceful stroll down main street, amusing yourselves with come harm less idle chatter.

"...so THAT's the story behind the tabard?"

"Yes! I never thought she'd actually put it on. And now it's almost weird to see her without it. Although with that kind of body she'd make anything look good."

Up to now you've mostly considered your relationship with Millian something strictly professional, or, to be more precise, you never thought much about it at all. But you have to admit you feel comfortable with her around.

And she seems to enjoy your company as well. It's weird. You've never had someone your own age around you, or...

"Oh, we're here."

You're shaken from your thoughts by her voice. "...This is the temple of the Sun?" You ask her.

She nods. "I told you, it's not much."

"I can see why they want to move over to Pearl. I wonder how the work there is going on."

"They're Exalted. I'm sure they'll pull off something completely amazing." She replies, stepping inside the small, dusty old temple.

You follow her. "Miss Pyre?" You call out. The words echo, but no real answer comes. The building feels deserted. The blinds are shut and the inside is dark.

"...Did we end up here at the wrong time?" She wonders. "But it's almost noon, they should be getting ready for prayer..."

Maybe they've already packed up and left for Pearl, you think. But, before saying that out loud, you realize it's unlikely. They would've at least locked the door.

"...I hope this isn't the Immaculates." Millian mumbles, now visibly spooked. The floorboards creak under her steps as she walks to a window and tries to undo the latch keeping the wooden blinds closed.

"I know they had a history of bullying and threatening the people of this temple, but I thought Maka had-"

Your words are cut short by a sudden gust of wind, slamming the door closed.

Full of dread, you pull the handle and try and get it open. Nothing. The metal feels cold and dead to the touch.

You turn around. "...Millian?"

"...I can't open the windows, either. Are we locked in?"

You kneel in front of the door. You've had some experience of burglary, and you know your way around a locked entrance.

...And this door isn't locked. The mechanisms are broken.

Or rather: they're frozen solid.

"...Something evil is going on." This feels like one of those circumstances where you feel justified in saying that without fear of sounding corny or over-dramatic. "...I'm sorry to have dragged you here, Millian."

"Don't be silly. You didn't drag me. And neither of us could have known." She deftly grabs a nearby broom, left propped against a wall, and decapitates it with a kick, leaving her with a sharp piece of wood. On your part, you unsheathe your cutlass, feeling nonetheless inadequate.

Whatever is going on here, it's obviously supernatural. And doesn't want you to leave.

"...Wasn't this place supposed to be holy?" Millian wonders, trying to sound brave. But you can tell by her voice she's scared out of her mind, pointing her improvised spear at the darkness.

You're not any better. "Try telling that to... whatever this is." you mumble. If only you had a torch or a source of light...

"...actually, that's a good idea." You whisper at her. Just as you do so, you see... something.

Red eyes suspended in darkness. Smoke and frost. A cold breeze passing on your skin. A shiver on your spine...

"What?" The presence is just behind Millian, drawing closer.

"THE ALTAR! RUN! NOW!" You shove her aside, just as the presence suddenly gains weight and substance.

You hear its feet slamming loudly on the wooden floor, which creaks under its weight, and feel a terrifyingly cold blade sliding effortlessly into your side, piercing through your ribs...

[Health: -2] [3/5]

For a moment, your mind goes completely blank with cold, fear and terror. You hear malicious laughter echoing in your ear...

...Then, suddenly, it turns into an annoyed scream as Millian slams her pointy stick deep into its semitransparent body.

For a moment, you're entranced with the sight of this ancient, ghostly warrior, ethereal blade in hand, staring at the piece of wood embedded in his chest. You can even see the part of the former broom handle stuck inside him, albeit with some difficulty, like through murky water.

Before you have time to react, the presence turns immaterial again, dissolving in fog and smoke, and the improvised spear clatters to the ground with an eerie noise.

You both take that as your cue and make a mad dash for it if what you hope to be the right direction.

Along the way, you stumble and trip several times, your strength failing you. You feel cold and numb all over. But, with Millian's support, you manage to slam open a door and break into a dimly lit room - still better than the total darkness near the entrance.

You hear Millian slamming the door behind you, but you have the suspicion that it's a completely futile gesture. However, once your eyes decide to work again, you realize that you made it to the alter room. Little more than a wooden desk with a black cloth covering it, embroidered with the golden eight-ray sunburst of the Unconquered Sun. On the altar rest two golden (likely brass) candelabra filled with a forest of lit candles, dripping and almost entirely exhausted.

"...We're here, I guess." You mutter weakly. "I hope this will hold him at bay."

"What WAS that?" Millian tries not to panic.

"...It looked like a ghost. It had a horned helmet... or maybe horns himself. Curved sword. Weird armor..."

"Why would a ghost haunt a temple of the Sun?" She drops to her knees next to you. "...You're bleeding."

"Thanks, I noticed." You mumble, trying to stay focused.

You hear Millian ripping her dress and feel her trying to bandage your wound, but you keep your eyes fixed on the door.

That creature can turn immaterial, so there's no reason he shouldn't try to attack you again. Unless...

You are interrupted by the most wonderful sound in the world right now: something slamming loudly on the door.

"...Why are you grinning? He's trying to break down the door!"

"Because he can't walk through it. The altar IS protecting us." You try and stand up. Everything hurts and you're all covered in blood, but Millian seems to have done a good job.

She pushes you down, forcing you to sit, and then quickly moves to a nearby pile of chairs, pushing them against the door. "That's good but now stay down. You need to rest!"

It formed everywhere EXCEPT the shrine.

Something fucked up happened here - but, considering the appearance of the ghost, it might have been an ancient thing that got reawoken by Abyssals/Maka's fucking around with the Directional Titan. I'm expecting a lot of ancient things thought long buried to start unearthing themselves as the situation beneath the island becomes more and more apparent.
>>
Rolled 8

No, it's still inside the shrine, just not in the room with the alter proper.
That would mean that some fucked up shit happened in this building, and the cult was a good bit weaker than we thought before we arrived, if their prayer only managed to consecrate one room. A cult in good standing would have that effect over the whole building and probably banish weaker ghosts in the alter's presence outright.

You look at the altar. Maybe...

"...Can you hold him?" You ask Millian, who is busy piling all sorts of things onto the door.

"I can try." She stops a moment, turning to face you. "Why?"

"I want to try something." You reply. And then: "You look good with a short skirt."

She blushes. "You- you stop trying to be brilliant and try and find out what the heck is going on!"

You turn back to the altar and search around a bit. Finally, you find what you were hoping to see: drawers hidden under the cloth. And spare candles in one of them.

"...I've never been a very religious person." You whisper to the candles as you start lighting them and replacing them on the candelabra. "Always thought gods wouldn't have much reason to care for me, so it was only fair to act the same to them. Besides, what would I have to gain from them?"

"But I guess you just saved my life here. You probably didn't even notice it, but still, I should thank you. I have no idea how to pray, but..."

You are interrupted by another crash on the door, louder and stringer. But the barricade holds.

"...Unconquered Sun, please see us through this. It's all I ask." You conclude quickly, then lift up the altar and bring it to the door. "Move aside, Millian." You ask the startled maid, putting down the altar as part of the barricade, the candles still on top and burning brighter than before.

The room is definitely better illuminated right now, and feels warmer and safer. The ghost has also stopped trying to batter the door down.

"...We're safe?" She whispers.

"We're trapped." You reply, ignoring the pain and looking around. There are two other doors, leading to the back of the temple, and now that you have more light you can see that the entire altar room is a mess. There's been a fight or struggle of some kind here...

Taking advantage of candlelight, you and Millian begin to search around the room, not feeling safe enough to move to another part of the building.

And, now that you have once again silence... you can hear a weak, whispery noise coming from the floor...

"...Can you hear that?" you ask Millian.

"On it." She grabs and extra candle and begins searching. You follow her.

After a couple of minutes of searching, you find the source of the whispering: a bundle of heavy blankets thrown in a corner of the room.

As you undo them, you are caught completely by surprise by what lies underneath: Pyre Spark, pale and shivering.

"...Miss Pyre? What are you doing here?" You ask, trying to shake her. But as soon as you touch her shoulder, you pull our hand back: she's frighteningly cold, as cold as dead."

"...Pyre Spark? Can you hear us?"

"Is she..."

"No. She's breathing, and I feel a heartbeat, but she seems... She can't notice us?" You lean closer, trying to listen to her whispers.

"I don't know where it is... I don't know where it is... I don't know what you're talking about... She never told me anything... I don't know anything..."

"Is she in... a trance?" Millian wonders.

"Seems like that. Not a good kind of trance. Something got her. And... is asking questions."

"So this isn't just an incident." Millian gestures to the... well, your entire situation. "It's a planned attack."

"Damned Abyssals." You mutter.

You're out of your depth here. You have no idea what you should do with her.

You and Millian drag the frozen priestess closer to the altar and try to warm her up a bit. You briefly consider starting a fire of some kind, but quickly realize that it would turn the entire building in a smoking ruin. Bad idea.

"She seems to..." mumbles Millian, leaving the sentence hanging. You can see it for yourself, however: She regains a bit of color and warmth, and seems to sink in a deeper, more peaceful sleep. But no sign of waking up, quite the contrary.

"...What's going on with her?" The maid grumbles.

"...I don't know. I'm not sure." You reply. Your wound seems to have stopped bleeding, but it still hurts. And feels so cold...

"Who were you talking to, then?"

So cold. So sleepy...

You force yourself to stand up.

"...Are you alright?" She asks.

"I'm NOT alright! Whatever got Pyre is getting to me, too. I hear... voices. Questions. And I don't know the answers, but I don't know how much this ghost cares."

"...You mean he wasn't sent here to cause damage... but to-"

"To find the Titan." You reply, instinctively.

"Titan who?" She asks.

"I have no idea... And it's not a person. I think. It must be a place. It's asking me where is the entrance."

"...If something's large enough to be called a "Titan", don't you think we'd have seen it if it was on Tianna by now?"

"I have no idea!"

"No, I was talking to the ghost."

Enough of this. You rip the blankets off Pyre Spark and toss them on a pile of books and shattered wooden furniture. Then, you grab one of the two candelabra...

"Wha- what are you doing, Regis?"

"Trust me. I have a plan." You lie, tossing the lit candles on the bundle. It catches fire rather quickly, producing a thick smoke that makes your eyes and throat sting. But at least you feel alive again, even though your side and torso is so cold...

>Help Millian break down a window
>>
You know what you must do now, but you don't like it one bit.

You hold your cutlass' blade over the roaring fire as it starts spreading, attacking the wooden pavement, the furniture, licking the walls like hungry tongues.

W̵̐H͈̟̗͋ͣ̂̈E̫̘R̺̝͇ͦ̕E̱ͯ̌ͬ̎̄ͬ ̮̟̦͌ͬͦͧ̅I̶̪̱ͩ́̔ͦS̜̖̿̔ͩ͞ͅ ̯̼̼̰̙ͪ͋̽͒Ţ̮̘̫̑͒̎ͤ̇H̝̰̥͕̼̏̈̒̄È͙ͯ͑͛̋ ̭̫̫͈̥͌ͬ̀̓ͦͮ̌E̛̲͔̟ͮ̉̋̓ͣ͂̓Ṉ͔͈̻̤͙̟ͣ̈́͗̒̆ͤͬT̶̲̠̹̬̣̽R̴͍̹̘̬ͪ̍Ȃ͉̺̫͙N͎͇̄̍C̬̝̘ͅE͈̮̙͕͉̙̗͂͂̐͠ ͚̺̥̟͌͐̾͜T̬̙̤̜̥̫͉̐̎͋ͬ͌̚O͚̻ ̡̗ͪ̾̅͑̇T͖̮̖̬̬ͨ͗͟ͅH̥̺̃͛̆̀͂ͨ͑͠E̸̩̻͚̪̯̥ͫͯ ͌ͫͮͭ͐T̡̠͈̀͗̒͂̉I̧̹̊̅̎T̷͇̫̙̗͚͙͕̆̒̋͊̋͑ͭAN͍̗͇̼̗͍?̷̮̮̝̣͔͋ͯ!͖͇͚ͫͤͤͮ̔ͫ̚

You take a deep breath, undo your bandages, and, once the flat of the blade has turned to a dull red glow, press it against your frozen wound.

Your scream draws Millian's attention, and she finally notices what you're up to. "Wha- ARE YOU INSANE?"

The smell of burnt flesh fills the temple. It feels weird to think that it's your own. You're even amazed that you can so much as think right now.

The pain washes over you, and you feel as if it had dragged something dark and cold away with it. Your head feels suddenly clearer.

"...No. Not anymore." You reply, shoving the blade back in its scabbard (metallic, fortunately for you) and picking up the fainted Pyre Spark in your arms.

"And now what, genius?" Millian screams in a panic. "I can't get the window open! We're going to burn in here?"

Physical + Night = 1 7 8 4 4 = 2 successes

You briefly put the priestess down, grab the frozen-shut window blinds with both hands, and rip them out of the frame. The sunlight shining in Tianna's streets and alleyways greets you.

Millian falls silent, and you chuck the blinds into the fire behind you and pick Spark back up.

Together with Millian, you leap out of the window and into the street. A few passerbys notice you, and the smoke flowing out of the broken window. Someone screams "FIRE!" in the distance.

At least the alarm is out. Now, you have to wonder, will that ghost give up, or-

Nope. Forcing itself to a solid form, the ghastly shape of the horned warrior emerges from the fire blazing from the temple's window, screaming in anger.

"...Now what?" Millian murmurs, transfixed by the sight of the ghostly warrior.

"Now we run. A lot." You nudge her until she gets the hint, then flee as well, with all the speed your broken body, searing pain and short breath will allow you, not to mention carrying around the surprisingly-heavy Pyre Spark.

Physical + Zenith = 2 9 6 8 = 2 successes

Snarling, the ghost gives chase. You don't dare turn around, but you feel its ice-cold breath on your back.

You run out of the alleyway and aim for main street, intending to run for the castle, when all of a sudden a random passerby steps in Millian's way, who was just ahead of you, and shoulder-checks her into a wall just before you can get out of the alley and into the open.

The event is so sudden and unjustified that you skid to a halt, staring at the man's face. He seems a normal citizen, a man around his 40s, maybe an artisan judging by his leather apron...

...pierced by a frozen wound on his chest, his eyes blue and empty.

Damnit.

"WHERE IS THE ENTRANCE?" The possessed screams at you, blocking your way entirely as the ghost...

Wait, where did the ghost go?

"He doesn't know." A cool and calm voice from the roofs above replies in your place.

Before you can even raise your eyes to see what's above, he's already come down, letting himself fall onto the possessed citizen while grabbing his head and slamming it on the ground.

He's an imposing figure, clad in a billowing black cloak that seems as if it were a living thing of its own. He wears a silver helmet and a large, glowing blood-red stone is set in his chest.

He turns to face you, and you feel immediately awed by his piercing gaze.

You draw your cutlass, still incandescent, and point it at the stranger. "...Who are you now?"

He smiles, apparently regarding your pointed blade as no threat at all. "You've been a brave little kid up to now, but you can put that away. If I were here to hurt you, you'd be already dead."

A symbol appears on his forehead: a black, hollow circle, like a scar or a tattoo on his pale skin. He's an Abyssal!

You lower your sword. "...Are you... the one that was-"

"-to meet Maka? Yes. Call me Phoenix." He looks down at the passed-out citizen. He's not dead, you notice with some relief. "...So they're making their first move."

"Who is?!" You gesture at the burning building in the distance. "You mean that it wasn't your people who did this? Attacking Pyre and us-"

"We didn't. We have a truce, as of yesterday night."

"Doesn't seem that way to me." You reply, kneeling next to Millian. She seems to be alright, just passed out.

"We're not the only ones with ghosts at our command and an interest in Tianna, boy." He grins.

"Who were they, then?"

"...I don't know yet, precisely." He admits. "But some other part is interfering. Probably agents of a different Deathlord. We've rooted out a few spies in our ranks, but didn't manage to make them talk yet."

You can't even begin to imagine how torturing a ghost for information would even work.

"...Did you take out the ghost?"

"No need to thank me." He replies.

...You don't really have tome to chat with this individual. With a nod of acknowledgement, you put Pyre Spark on a shoulder, Millian on the other, and run away, leaving the scene.

You run like crazy, until you're in the only place that feels safe right now: the castle. There, concerned-looking guards lift the girls off your back. Everything is hazy in your mind as your adrenaline drops and the pain and exhaustion takes a hold of you. You just have this image of Millian waking back up and smiling tiredly at you.

"Not bad fir a first date." She said, weakly.

Then, you passed out, you guess.

You wake up, fresh and rested, in a soft bed in the castle.

Yep. You're frozen with the sudden realization that queen Amata herself is in the room - Maka's room, you now recognize: you're sleeping in her bed.

You tell her the whole story, without omitting anything.

She listen to all of it, every single word, with extreme care. Often, she interrupts you to ask about more details. Some of her questions sound a bit weird. Like if you remember what the ghost was wearing, or a more accurate description of your wound and of the voice talking in your head.

You give her all the details you can remember. At the end, she falls silent for a few minutes, like she's trying to make puzzle pieces fit together in her head.

"...Probably Phoenix was telling the truth. It seems there's another force aiming for Tianna, it seems." She looks straight at you. "I should also tell you this: we managed to secure a truce with Phoenix's faction, but part of the deal requires us to exchange hostages."

Why is she bringing this up- wait. "...You mean me?"

"I'm not going to order it to anyone. It must be a voluntary choice. I don't think there are any serious risks involved but I can't force someone to do it."

"But, with Maka away..."

"Knowing Maka, she'd probably offer herself as a hostage. Which would be really silly, because we need her leading the assault on Black Island."

"Whereas I'm expendable." You reply.

"As a hostage, you'll be kept safe." She reassures you, but the fact that she didn't deny it doesn't escape your notice.

"...I'd like to talk to Maka about it first."

"I'd like it too, but we don't know where she is, or when she'll be back. In any case, we can't wait for her."

"And how, if I'll be in the land of the dead?" You sigh. "What ever could keep me safe there?"

"Well, praying for luck won't work, probably..." She mumbles to herself with a strange tone of voice. "But I'm sure everything will be alright nonetheless. But I'll need you to keep your eyes and ears open, alright? The things you might see and hear could turn out to be very useful intelligence once you return."

Well, at least she didn't say "if".

"...Is Millian all right?"

"Just knocked her head a bit hard. She'll be fine." She reassures you.

Thanks for the thread Exaltedfag, I hope your internship goes well

Thank you. I hope I'll manage to get another thread in before I leave.

Having reached this point, I think it's only fair to ask you people how you think the story and the game in general is going and evolving. (nevermind my bad thread pacing please)

Also, unrelated personal curiosity: how many of you people who play in my thread also read my (bad) scanlation of "QuickStart!!"?
>>

Nice thread, thanks for running

See you in October!

Its going okay. I'm a bit worried that the superweapon will overshadow our attempts at nationbuilding though.

Speaking of, if Maka has a good handle on the internal layout, expect us to go for the DB armory to pick some stuff up

>tutan
I know what you meant anon, but I couldn't help but giggle at the thought of Maka telling Amata about the Tootan

I'm enjoying the story and have been since I started reading.
Today was the first time since I started reading (it was the thread after the one where we we took control of Tia) that I didn't have fun, but I think that was due to low mortal dice pools screwing us up in the beginning and coloring how we acted through the rest of the thread. I don't have any real complaints about anything, and the only thing I would add is my often repeated request for a Sidereal to show up and join us.

As for your second question, I don't even know what you're talking about, so the answer would be no.

It's good. Story pacing is nice, plot is being revealed at reasonable intervals and with sufficient amounts of impact. Your characters are well written and generally fun to read. Your worldbuilding is solid and easily accessible.

If I had to identify a point for improvement, off the top of my head, I would say that you should work on long term character direction. Some of the minor characters have undergone a lot of change in (what seems to be) a short space of time (In reality, it's been a fair while, but given the timeskips in threads it feels like less time), which is fine, but there is a chance that it's going to blot out what they originally were.

I'm pretty happy about the where the quest is going, especially once we start getting into the kingdom management
Also you gave us a Directional Titan, holy shit that's great
I've read QuickStart, it's cute

Actually I've been a bit curious, how much did you have planned when you started, like was Tia always going to be our Lunar Husbando, or was the Titan always down there?

I share the fear of the Titan subplot overshadowing our nation building and the until now prominent threats like the Pirate base. Otherwise I'm happy with where this is going as an Exalted quest.
Although there has been far too little Makafucking Tia recently.
I hope we can get a bit of focus on our realm building, especially in regards to setting up our new city.

It feels very Exalted. It's a good thing.

Who said that it didn't already happen?

I'll keep that in mind, thank you. It was a point I was worried about as well, and hearing someone else mention it confirms it.

A good game master never reveals what's going on behind the screen.

To everyone who is afraid that the Titan will overshadow worldbuilding: I'll keep that in mind. Don't worry about it. I'll do my best. This was actually one of the things i was wondering about, just how much "main adventure plot" vs. how much "kingdom building/management" you wanted.
>>
>>33318137
I'm heavily on the building management side. Also looking forward to conquering wavecreast

>just how much "main adventure plot" vs. how much "kingdom building/management" you wanted.
I'm probably in the minority but I've enjoyed adventuring parts, the going out and beating up fae and leading the army to war
I don't want pure adventure of course, but a nice balance of the two would make me happy
>>
>>33318137
I like how you've been handling that particular balancing act so far.
>>
>>33318137
I was actually kinda aad to see it was a directional titan. I basically wanted the deathlord to decide that we were not worth the effort so we could spend more time conquering the west. Now it looks like we're actually going to have to defeat a deathlord first, which is a campaign in its own right, and not one I particularly want to play
>>
>>33317636
Game feels exalted and is pretty fun. Keep at it.
QuickStart!! is hilarious and I love it. I didn't know you did the scanlation of it though.

Fucking Sidereal Plans.

As for the Titan/Kingdom Building question, I'm holding off forming an opinion on the matter until we figure out how much work it would take to get the thing active. And either way, my favorite part of this quest is actually when we take some downtime and talk to our allies. You're awesome at making interesting, likable characters and sometimes I just want to skip the other stuff so we can go back to hanging out with them.
>>
>>33318301
I'd argue that leading an army is a mix of the two. When I think of adventure plot I'm thinking small numbers of exalts dealing with a superweapon or other plot device. Which I'd prefer to pass on.
>>
>>33318137
>>33317636

I'm not very sure, but I feel like there is too much going on at the same time. I honestly like the downtime more. The characters are incredibly fun, and kinda overshadow the plots, heh.

I am afraid of. However, too many new characters in Maka's circle. Once there is a certain number, personalities mesh (or clash) with each other and the characters lose some of their unique flair.
>>
Don't get too hooked on kingdom building, Exaltedfag. They tend to slow down any quest, and the best part of your quest are the characters, not the kingdoms.
>>
>>33318422
This is true. I'm totally fine with leading an army to expand our kingdom, or queendom, whatever. The titan subplot I could basically pass on entirely.
>>
>>33318137
I'm a little bit sad to see people didn't like the Titan reveal, I was quite excited last thread when that happened and I'm waiting to see where you go with that
>>
>>33318622
I liked it. But the thread ended right after we found out what it was, so we have 0 idea where EF is going with it.
>>
>>33318622
It seems like it will get in the way of what I want to do though, which is conquer the west. Either its broken and just another thing we have to defend or its fixed and conquering the west just became trivial. I've never found win by plot device to be fun
>>
>>33318693
Why only the west? I thought people wanted to unite all Creation under the Banner of Solar Queen Maka, that would be a task even with a Titan once Sidereals, Lunars, and other Solars, not to mention the Realm and Lookshy, get involved.
