Reclaiming Might Quest: Thread 6.1

Theme:
Evil MC with superpowers conquering the world. Evil MC = actually evil and cruel things. No “being a dick to random people because reasons” and more “sending children to labor camps when parents can’t pay taxes”. Torturing people and absorbing their soul is how you gain insight. Expect rape, mutilation, torture, etc.

Pre-writing isn't necessary, but pre-planning is. Keep the story moving forward, don't get bogged down in pointless minutia.

Continuing from last thread: You are inside the city of Alderton. Isabella will kill her husband and his adviser and in return you will protect her and her children from your soldiers when you take the town. You have destroyed two mortars and significantly weakened the wooden doors of the city's front gate. You are inside the city, and still undetected. Sunrise is in two hours and it will be more difficult to remain undetected or escape the city once it does.

The soldiers nearby are all staring at the large wooden door. Just moments ago it released a low and rumbling groan as its weight shifted. By heating and cooling the metal you have created stress cracks in a little over half of the hinges tying of the two halves of the door to the wall.

You quickly decide to not return to your war camp today. It may be difficult to return to the city once you leave, and you believe you can do much more to help the battle from the inside than the outside. You pull your cloak over you and leave the alcove you were standing in before disappearing into the alleys of the crowded town. You should send a message to Palm soon, but first you need to decide on a plan. You haven’t made arrangements to meet with Isabella again. The next time you see her she will have locked her children and herself into a cell in the keep dungeon for protection.

You are feeling a bit weary. Being up all night and spending hours focusing on those hinges has taken its toll on your body.

You find some scrapped wood leaning up against the wall at the back of a disused alley. It smells bad and it won’t be comfortable, but minor inconveniences will be gone once the city is yours.

You write a coded message to Palm explaining what you have done and the situation. You tell him not to attack today, although you are mostly sure your forces aren’t ready to assault the city anyways. You briefly wonder how Palm intends to use the tribal horsemen during the battle. They won’t be any good in a city and you doubt that there will be any fighting on the plains.

You make yourself as comfortable as possible and cover yourself with some of the wood scraps. No one will find you here, even if they were looking.

You sleep well considering the circumstances. Based on the light it is about the middle of the day. The Alderton is very different from Lanfield. When you reach out you can fill thousands of individual points of essence all around you. They are packed tightly together, and based on their location you can almost “see” the wall sand main streets of the city. There are so many dots that it is difficult to identify individual ones. The sea of essence just seems to blend together.

I don't disagree that we should look for someone with essence in the town. And we can probably escape the guards fairly easily (although our discovery may have other consequences, and there may be a lot of other guards summoned who won't be so easily escaped). But why not just sleep somewhere inconspicuous now, then start looking when we are rested (and when our preparations for taking the city are completed)? We've got time. As you leave the allye you sense that the mood in the town has changed. There is no doubt that the crumpled bodies of the soldiers you left on the tower have been found. If Isabella completed her mission, the Prince Allister is now dead and whoever is second in command of the army is probably having the worst day of their life. You wonder how they plan to defend the walls without their precious mortars.

It is the middle of the day, and you have been slowly changing your appearance as you slept to “fit in” more. You have lost a slight amount of muscle mass but you are much closer to the size of a normal human and will stand out much less. YOu consider your options.

People hurry back and forth. Some are collecting belongings and preparing for a war, others are simply going about their normal business. It seems that most of the soldiers are ether on the wall or elsewhere. Either way the city streets are mostly devoid of them.

Mostly devoid of them, except for that large crowd of them walking down the street toward you in formation. You quickly get to the side of the street and consider your options. The alloy long sword is well hidden in your cloak. Your rest in the dirt has left you sufficiently dirty that your dark cloak doesn’t stand out. You do look strong, but that by itself isn’t enough to warrant much attention. You don’t see any of the staring at you, so you decide that the best course of action is to just let them pass. It is certainly a gamble, but an open fight in the middle of the day or fleeing are obviously not tenable.

Luckily they seem more focused on staying in formation than searching for you. All of the men look tired, and you suspect that they are returning from duty on the wall. You decide to follow them.

The soldiers walk to small stone building built into the inside of the wall. You have seen several like this before. They don’t notice as you slip in the door behind the last one. You have done this before, and it is over quickly. At first they challenge you, then they threaten you with violence. You strike down the ones who drew their blades and then strike down the ones who retaliate for their deaths. In less than five minutes over half of the thirty soldiers are dead, burnt husks lying on the ground.

Some of the rest are in shock, but at least ten of the remaining guards seem to understand the weight of what you say. IN the end the ultimate decision is theirs. “Converting” them in this way is messy, but it is quick. The thick stone walls contained the screams of the dying and the living will not do anything that might tempt your wrath. It is already known that SOMEONE is inside the city walls from the soldiers you slaughtered on the tower, so you have lost nothing by showing yourself to these few soldiers.

As you leave the building the bird you sent with a message to Palm flies down to you. The message was quickly returned but the bird had trouble finding you until now. You decode it.

You find it amusing how the small sleeping rooms are laid out against the walls. You know this system was designed so that there would always be fresh soldiers ready and near their posts but they could have also wanted to give you an excellent buffet. The thought is amusing. The next bastion had forty soldiers crammed into bunk beds. Only thirteen of them survived. The next bastion only had three. None of them survived.

As you slowly open the door to the fourth room you notice how these men’s’ armor is of much higher quality that the others. You have found some of the king’s Elite knights. You even remember some of them from the parlay you had yesterday night.

Two of the remaining eight lung at you. You know they can’t see you, but they are trained well and their blades slice through the air where you were once standing. You slowly burn them, letting them scream as their flesh and muscle dissolve around them. Their smoldering corpses and burning clothes cast a faint flickering light upon you.

Only one of them speaks.

“You are real. They weren’t just stories….you are actually real.”

Either it will work or it won't, I wasn't convinced they could open the gate without our help. It's a calculated risk and I think it will pay off.

You cut a line into your hand with a knife from a nearby table and approach the nearest knight. In the dark he is blind, but he hears you approach.

“What? Stay away! I…” he is cut off as you grab his chin and hold your fist above his face, letting the blood drip into his mouth. The other knights are bothered by the sounds, but their blindness keeps them from acting.

“Silent, and no not resist. I am granting you a boon for your service to me. Ensure that the southern gate is wide open at sunrise, and you will be rewarded.”

You repeat the action with the other six knights. As you finish with the last the first two are laying on the ground asleep. Granting them a portion of your power has sedated them, but they will wake up soon and their changed bodies and the corpses of their former brothers in arms will prove that they were not dreaming.

You are taking a gamble with them, but you need to now. Your forces are relatively small compared to the cities and if those gates are closed in the morning you will take heavy casualties opening them. You were depending on having more time for this campaign but the poisoned food has forced your hand. If you catch the one responsible they will suffer.

As you leave the bastion the sun is setting. You are surprised on how well you executed your plans. You realize the irony of the coming battle. If the soldiers were patrolling the streets and not up on the walls this would have been much more difficult. As it stands you only need to slay three different men on your way to the small side door that you entered in. You are spotted as you run across the field back toward your camp, but they can do nothing as you spring away.

As you approach your war camp two tribal scouts charge out to you, but they quickly stop and let you through when you burn a ring of fire around yourself in the grass. Palm rushes to you, furious and violent.

The soldiers gather. Bishop Kenneth has made some big arrangements in a limited amount of time. He has done this before and knows how to give soldiers their last blessing. There are whispers as you take the crudely build stage in front of them along with Kennet. Kenneth starts slow and quiet, sharing a simple story of heroics and sacrifice. You notice he has removed some parts of it. There are no more references to “forgivness from god” or “blessings of the pure”. It’s interesting how bloodthirsty the story seems with these simple parts removed.

He finished his short story and steps aside. After all, tonight you are blessing them.

“Our world has been weakened by false kings and lying prophets. These parasites server no greater purpose than themselves. They scurry and scheme, all trying to extend out their aimless lives just a little longer.”

“The end of that world begins now.”

You draw the ceremonial knife along your arm, leaving a long gash. You let the blood flow into the large cup on the alter.

“I have come to remake this world to my own design. The old laws are annulled. The old crimes are forgotten. The old ways are dead. With might and power I will retake this land from the weak and forge it into a land of the strong. Together, we will cointain and feed upon the weaknesses of others. We will grow stronger. The weak will be tried and culled, and only the worthy will remain. From my power you are granted freedom from your weakness. From your loyalty you are granted freedom from your fear. With our cunning and our courage we will take what we desire for ourselves.”

You take the bottle of wine and open it, filling the large cup to the brim.

Several of Kenneth’s acolytes take smaller cups and dip them in the large one before you. They then begin walking down the lines of soldier passing the cups between them. Some soldiers refuse, but most partake. By morning their strength will be great.

YOu leave the altar to Kenneth and walk back toward the large tent in the center of the camp. You step inside. Fifty of your most trusted knights are here, all kneeling before you.

You address them.

“You, the tip of my spear, I have chosen for ascension. You are no longer deemed as a weakness in the chain. Your will be the might of this army. By morning you will be forever changed, and all below you will be in service to you. Wealth, Women, Food, all that you desire form those weaker will be given to you. Your arm still bleeding, you walk among them and let your blood flow into their mouths. You don’t deny them the full boon like you denied the other soldiers. None of them deny your gift.

All of them are asleep when you finish. You hold your wound closed and retreat to your coach. The blood loss was not too great, but you don’t want to do this again soon. You find pleasure in Monifa’s arms and then sleep until the battle horn wakes you.

Over the night you slowly shift your form. You abandon any presence of normalcy and embrace a body of carnage and death. You will show no mercy to any who resist your right to rule this world.

Palm seeks you out in the night. He seems to expect you to hang back with him during the battle. You simply explain that that will not be happening. You have your alloy sword with you, but you doubt you will be using it much. IN the dark it is difficult to see your form, and it is for the best. You make it clear to Palm that the army is to charge at sunrise, then leave him as you walk off into the night.

The soldiers on the city walls are expecting an attack, but they never expected you. Only three shoot at you as you run to the tower on the southeastern part of the wall. The mortars were previously up on that tower and you doubt that their ammunition has been moved. It will be twenty minutes until sunrise, but you can hold out until then.

Your powerful form makes it easy to climb the wall. Toes and claws easily tear into the rock, propelling yourself upward at an astonishing speed. The alarm has been sounded but that was your intention. Confused soldiers are looking for an army that isn't there yet. Your part in this battle has just begun.

There are only about ten soldiers on top of the tower. You tear through their armor and flesh quickly and efficiently. The hatch to the first floor below you splinters and you descend.

With the spotters on the top of the tower taken care of, you decide to continue with your distractions. The dry straw in this room easily ignites, and as you make you way down the levels you start to create an inferno. You make a note to yourself to have your cities built of stone.

After descending four levels you find yourself on a stone floor. The tower goes further down, but now you are at the level of the wall. Sunrise is approaching soon. The gates should be open. They were not. This will not do.

You smash through the wooden door separating the inside of the tower from the wall. This has the added advantage of providing the fire you started inside with a much needed supply of air. There are over two hundred soldiers along the top of the wall between you and your goal.

You briefly concentrate, summoning shimmering spheres of light and mist in front of you. Your orders to them are simple. Kill. They race forward, seeding destruction in their wake. You race after them, taking opportunistic swipes at the burned and frozen Some jump from the wall to avoid you. Some are mad enough to charge you in an attempt to slow you down. Your claws rip through their armor like paper and you toss their bodies to the streets below. Over the edge of the wall you gatch a glimpse of your army, marching forward in formation.

When you make it two thirds of the way to the gate you realize your mistake. The soldiers at the other end of the wall have had time to see you coming. They are prepared for you. You count over twenty hand cannons aimed down top of the wall at you.

“READY!”

You could leap off of the wall, but then you would not reach the gate in time. They are too far away to charge yet too close to get out of their range. You begin to concentrate.

“AIM!”

There is no cover between you and them. The bodies you could have used have been thrown to the streets below. Your elemental spirits are racing at the firing line, but they will arrive too late.

“F---“

The lightning streaks out from your palm and strikes the barrels of gunpowder stored on the wall. At first only the one barrel explodes, throwing the men aiming at you away from the wall. Soon, the rest of the powder storage begins to ignite. You dig your hands and feet into the wall as the shockwave hits you. The cannoneers were all stationed directly above the southern gate, as they were expecting the attack to target there. In their haste they just left the barrels in the open. It would make reloading faster and easier, but risk of an explosion was increased.

The powder is incredibly expensive. You did not expect them to have this much of it. There is too much smoke in the air to see anything well, even with your eyes. Still, you charge forward along the burnt and blasted wall.

You meet no more resistance on your way to the gate. The blast cleared the remaining soldiers from Ahead you see a hatch that leades down into the heart of the wall, directly above the gate.

You need that gate open now. You told Palm it would be open and you will not be made a liar. You throw your body weight against the door and it splinters open.

The tip of the halberd pierces you just below your left nipple. Your weight carries you forward but the butt of the halberd is planted into the ground and the blade bites deeply. You feel its tip scrape against your spine. With a swing you crush the man’s head against the wall. But he holds on to the shaft and the blade is pulled out of your chest.

Your lung begins to fill with blood. You don’t have much time. There are only for more soldiers between you and the gate room. You take several more insignificant injuries as you kill them. You balance is off. You feel slow.

You force the last door open and see four men ahead of you. They turn to face you, looking away from the barricaded door at the other end of the room. Your vision is not as good as it should be.

You slay them, but you are fighting poorly. One of their swords bites deeply into your thigh. A crossbow bolt is imbedded in your forearm. When the last of their bodies fall you survey your surroundings. There is a large wheel designed for multiple humans to turn. It has chains wrapped around its edges. You guess that is there to raise the portcullis. At the other end of the room are two large counterweights hanging from chains that travel into the ceiling.

You briefly consider the door that you didn’t come through. There are spears and wood boards propped against it as it someone was trying to get through. You hear pounding on it, but it seems far away. You walk over and knock the reinforcements away, just a loud impact causes the door to splinter. Your vision starts to fade, but before its gone you see one of the six elite knights from earlier force his way through the door.

Can I suggest doing sets of actions and rolls when we're doing things like infiltrations? You probably didn't need to split all of the different sabotage/attack actions into separate posts, it would reduce your writing load to condense actions that don't depend on one another.
