Welcome to Academy City. The time is afternoon, the weather is pleasant, and the date is August 25.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error, and you were wondering if you really had the time to do two jobs at once. While Nakazawa told you that it wasn’t necessary that his project won the ACRE Assembly. It would only be the cherry atop his cake. Speaking of cake, the cake from Kaoru’s birthday party was delicious. It was nice and soft with generous amounts of creamy frosting. Probably wouldn’t do to have that too often, lest you fatten up, you thought as you patted your soft stomach. The thought of food came back to what Nunotaba had asked you to steal.

She wanted you to steal a bag of chemicals that looked like a human, a chemicaloid. Now you recalled that Asuka specifically said that as long as you weren’t trafficking drugs, guns or humans, you were a keeper. Does an artificial human count then? Probably, but you already accepted the job, for better or for worse. Still, you recall that Nunotaba didn’t have any qualms about taking Last Order either so there was that. She didn’t set a deadline for the job but if her words were to be taken seriously, then STUDY seemed to have something set up for the ACRE Assembly and that was just screamed bad news. You still had five days though so it was best to,

You needed to work on the bigger job first. If you got that out of the way then you could help Nakazawa without worrying about it. It’s not like Nakazawa needed to win or anything. Which was why he was slightly bummed you told him that something came up and that you wouldn’t be able to help him too much today. The Problem Children assembled in your dorm room shortly.

“So, what is the job this time O Fearless Leader?” Asuka started after you had served everyone tea.

“Our good friend Nunotaba wants us to steal a Chemicaloid from STUDY Corporation,” you answered.

You had passed the files on STUDY around. Tadakuni probably didn’t care too much and Kyousuke was still waiting his turn as Sagara pored over the information. You had given them the most salient points though. For her part Asuka was well informed already on STUDY, given her own modest investments.

“So how is this not a kidnapping again?” Kyousuke asked.

“What if we’re actually rescuing them?” Tadakuni posited.

“Either way, I am on board for this endeavour,” Asuka stated, “A crash in their share prices would benefit me greatly.”

You hadn’t thought of that.

“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves for the moment,” you warned, “We still need to know what exactly the Chemicaloid is, where it’s being kept and the defences. That and I still have to talk Toulour about the job.”

“Nunotaba was working with STUDY correct?” you nodded at Asuka’s question, “Then we could ask her directly.”

“That could compromise her though,” Sagara finally spoke up, “But if Toulour couldn’t find more information about this Chemicaloid I’m not sure how much of a help he’d be.”

“Might as well make sure he doesn’t know anything more,” you disagreed, “Last option is to do our own legwork.”

“I’m good with whatever you decide boss,” Tadakuni said.

They all looked to you.

I don't like the fact he's our go-to guy for everything. That's a sure way to get us killed, but we do have to inform him of our targets, so we might as well hit two birds with one stone.
>>
>>33359422
How would that get us killed? He has no reason to fuck us over.
>>
>>33359507
Uh he's head of a shadowy organisation, if we piss off a board member or magic cabal, do you really think he won't sell us out?

Toulour is a nice enough guy, but like us, is a criminal, if he knows too much about us he'll use it to his own advantage.
>>
>>33359717
We're a useful part of said organization, though, and I think he knew our mom if I read the last thread right, so I don't see him selling us out unless we do something retarded like trying to kill Crowley. I don't think we should get too buddy-buddy with him either, but there's no need to engage the shadowruns with our boss, at least for the moment.
>>
>>33359782
Yeah, highly likely that the Toulour from yesterdays thread is the same as our Toulour. So yes, he does know Kyrils mother.
>>
>>33359782
>>33359855
Well yes he knows our mother, and that's probably the only reason we've been invited to THIEF.

Consider how he didn't like our first heist which buggered up another member of THIEF, and the fact the last heist we did allowed a member of ITEM to identify us, we're probably not that useful a part.
>>
>>33359952
If he wanted to nail us, he could and probably would have done it already given our earlier mistakes. I think as long as we keep the fuck-ups to a minimum we should be good, at least for a while.
>>
>>33359977
Well yeah, this is mostly what I meant. The problem is if we make another fuck up. We need to start collecting our own contacts to get information, or we're going to be overly reliant on him.
>>
>>33360085
Maybe see if we can hire Management. He'll get you any information or personnel you need to do a job, and he's got a crazy business ethic. Never betrays a client once he's been paid.
>>
>>33360085
Ok, I get you. Getting some contacts of our own is definitely a good idea, certainly. I thought you were suggesting we engage maximum shadowruns, which is not such a good idea.

“Well I gotta go see Toulour, you guys think you can find more info on your own?” you finally said.

“I’m not sure but I’ll look in to it,” Kyousuke stood up.

“Same here,” Sagara added.

“Good, we’ll meet back up here tomorrow,” you finished.

With that, the group basically disbanded. Asuka had stayed behind but that wasn’t unusual. What was unusual was that even when you called Toulour he had asked to meet up. Apparently he had something to give you. Well it was getting close to dinner so it wasn’t that much of a big deal.

When you finally met up with him, he looked terrible. Rather he seemed tired, eyes swollen red and his usual cheery smile nowhere to be found. You were sitting a private booth at a fancy restaurant, which was also strange. Normally he was fine with some random fast food joint.

“Hey,” he greeted listlessly.

“You look like shit Toulour,” you couldn’t help blurting it out.

“Tell me something new,” he removed his glasses, “I have something for you.”

From under the table he produced a white shoebox. Then he handed it to you. It was wrapped in black ribbons.

“Open it in your own time alright,” he continued, “What can I do for you?”

“Uh thanks,” you replied hesitantly.

You wondered what was inside, half-curious but also half-confused. What brought this on?

“We have business with STUDY Corporation,” Asuka interrupted.

“I see,” he put his glasses back on, “Nunotaba put you up to this?”

“She is the usual suspect yes,” Asuka affirmed, “We shall be stealing their Chemicaloid.”

“Chemicaloids,” Toulour corrected, all business, “You’re in the clear for this.”

“There is more than one?”

“Wait you know more about them?” you caught up to their conversation.

“We know that there’s more than one and we’ve been trying to acquire one for a while now,” he continued, “We would be glad to fence it for you. Anymore questions?”

huh

seems like fun, I guess?

I'll watch season 2 of Index after this, unless it's terrible or something?

just, yanno, I started with Railgun and then went to Index
feels right to do it this way
>>
>>33360520
Eh, that stuff isn't too big an influence on the Railgun portion of things, it's only an issue if you want to do a more Index-central quest. If you want to do something like this, don't worry about it too much. Also, what >>33360610 said with regards to the canon, though I will defend the last arc somewhat as at least it's funny bullshit.
>>
>>33360520
Go for the Railgun manga and the Index LN. Honestly the anime doesn't know what it's talking about half the time.

But seriously, Kiharas are terrifying. They're a semi-bloodline of mad scientists with no sense of self-preservation or morality. For example, Enshuu.

See, some people decided to see if they could reform a Kihara baby. So they locked her in a dark room for her entire childhood and gave her no education and no contact with anything, ever.

She made equations out of a language she built herself, processing chips out of paper, psychological tests out of lamps. She learned science from the way dust floated in the air and the feeling of a plastic cup.

Finally she melted her chains and turned her captors into wax. She didn't even do it to escape. As far as she was concerned that room had everything she'd ever need. She just did it because she wanted to show people she could. She didn't even realize she'd killed people.

Now she's a psychotic killing machine. She can't read or write, so she just analzyes people and takes their skills. She copied Touma's fighting style and crushed someone's torso in with it. And the other Kiharas still see her as a soft failure.
>>
>>33360660
Eh, the STUDY stuff might not be the most well-made, but I at least still found it to be entertaining nonsense, mostly for the last episode.
>>
>>33360660
That's pretty much chronologically correct. All the super exciting stuff happens in the light novels and will probably never get animated. But that's where all the War, Magic Bullshit and Misaka Worst(Best) come into play.
>>
>>33360660
To be honest, the best way to do things is to read the Index novels, read the Railgun manga and watch the first halfs of both Railgun anime seasons.
Don't bother with the Index second season, since it horribly butchers everything.
>>
>>33360739
What's wrong with the second half of Railgun 1? I liked the power armor shenanigans.
>>
>>33360779
You can watch it if you want, but it's also non-canon bullshit by Nagai.
>>33360698
The problem is that it interferes with the timeline and fucks over Misaka's characterization.

>>
>>33360779
Alot of people didn't like it specifically because of how weak those mechs were. AC powered armor is insane. It's not something you take on casually.

Also what >>33360815 said. Nagai decided Railgun needed more power of friendship and shit, and didn't realize or didn't care that Mikoto involving her friends in dark side shenanigans is something she still struggles with down the line.
>>
>>33360849
Most humans don't work that way. Kiharas do. Part of the reason AC was created was in order to contain them. Without AC offering them moral-free science, they'd be spread all over the world. Now all of them are concentrated in one place.

They're stated to be more a force of nature than anything else. They'll always arise even if you kill all the current ones.
>>
>>33360815
Oh it's certainly shit as part of Railgun, but there's still some entertainment value to be derived from the fighting robot silliness, if only in a so bad it's good sense.

“What exactly is a Chemicaloid then?” you asked, “I mean all your report said was artificial Ability User.”

“Which in turn implied sentience,” Asuka added.

“Right that too. I’m not a slave-trader and I don’t want to be.”

“I guess that’s a line you don’t want to cross huh?” Toulour mused, “Anyway, they’re exactly as was described. If you want to know what a Chemicaloid looks like physically then I can’t really help you too much there. I mean they’re artificial humans, they could look like anyone. You probably should have asked Nunotaba, we’ll pay you for the information too.”

“I’ll think about it,” you answered, “How many of them are there then? Two? Three?”

“We don’t know either,” Toulour angrily adjusted his glasses, “At least two.”

“Nunotaba told you to steal their Chemicaloid yes?” Asuka asked you.

You nodded.

“Using that exact phrasing?” you nodded again, “Then if her words were deliberate then it would mean they only possess one.”

“So someone has already stolen the others huh?” Toulour concluded, “I’ll look in to that for you, free of charge. As for where you could start, we’ve earmarked different facilities that looked promising though I can’t guarantee anything.”

“Then I guess that’s all the questions I have, thanks Toulour.”

His melancholic mood returned as he raised his wine glass for you. Dinner after that was a silent affair. Between escorting Asuka home and picking up LO, who seemed to be exhausted from the party, by the time you got home it was late. Not too late that you couldn’t read but there was Toulour’s package that you were curious about. After tucking Last Order in, you decided to,

Now really your curiosity was getting the better of you. With a small tug, the ribbon unravelled itself and you removed the lid of the shoebox. Inside, resting on a soft velvet cushion of purple was a gun. More specifically, it was a handgun that had been cut clean in two along the barrel. The magazine was missing. There was also a note. It had been crumpled up yet was still in the box.

“It was all I could find of Ilyena. –Riko,” it read.

Strange, you thought. However you had a hunch that it was supposed to be meaningful in some way. You didn’t know why you started rummaging around your room for the mementos of your biological parents. Of course once you found the photo of them did you remember. It was the only photo of them that you had. A faded old black and white photograph of them at their wedding, a wedding between Yuri Torikov and Ilyena Orlov, that’s it. It was way too much to be a coincidence. This was your mother’s gun. What fate that befell her you didn’t know, but it did keep you up all night wondering.

The time is late morning, the weather is depressing, and the date is now August 26.

You awoke to the sound of Last Order trying to make breakfast. Correction, you awoke to the sound of Last Order trying to help make breakfast. Asuka was already in your kitchen and the lads were lounging about, chatting about nothing important. A blanket was around your shoulders as your face was bathed in a small pool of drool. The gun had been returned to the shoebox you concluded, though the picture of your parents was still in your grip.

“Oh sleeping beauty’s awake,” Sagara said.

“Kyril does not look beautiful by classical standards, says Misaka says Misaka as she counters your claims.”

“I, uh,” you really weren’t ready for this, “I’ll just go get cleaned up.”

“That would be wise dear,” Asuka set down a plate of hot sandwiches, “Breakfast is ready.”

Leaving the picture on the table you retreated to the bathroom. A splash of cold water and your senses returned. The questions about your mother, and Toulour, were shoved far down on your mental list of priorities. First, you needed to drop off Last Order. Next you needed to get to work. Maybe at some point later today you’d be able to help Nakazawa while you’re at it.

Kiril seems to get a lot of use out of his 'level 2' TK, especially in combat

>Leave LO with Toshino
>>
>>33362290
Level 1 I think. That's the level she started at anyways. Though leveling up is bullshit in general, AC knows what level you're going to hit the second you become an Esper.

Basically

Level 0 = Useless

Level 1 = Minor use, nothing combat-wise

Level 2 = Somewhat useful, or powerful with severe limitations. Espers at this level augment their normal abilities with it.

Level 3 = Pretty good, about the level of a gun at low end to a rocket launcher at the high end (if you're a combat type). You're an elite here.

Level 4 = About the level of a tank or attack helicopter. The best of the best can take on large forces.

Level 5 = Able to take on armies at the low end, near-Gods at the high end

Level 6 = Omnipotence, universe restructuring, that kind of fun stuff.

The system scan tells you your current level at the time, but also records information on your potential level. Students are not told their potential level, but companies are, so they obtained her DNA knowing it had the potential to be Level 5.

As for the levels they're fairly vague. The only time esper powers around level 3 are shown are actually in combat. The fire guy in the first episode of Railgun, the guys that became level 3 with the level upper. I'd assume it'd more;
Level 0 - Worthless
Level 1 - Neat, but limited real life use - i.e Uiharu keeping her baked goods warm.
Level 2 - Every day applications, picking up the stuff on the floor for TK, Hightened awareness or responses - The sisters could move the windmills and stuff, but never really used their electricity to fight.
Level 3 - Low-level Combat - That Kyril is at the moment, we move shit and crush people with our power, but we'd get pwned against organized opponents
Level 4 - High level combat - could probably easily fight armed squads/ strong robots/ groups of weak espers.
Level 5 - Lol wut. You're gonna get Pwned, considered far beyond level 4s even at the lower scale.

You also have consider the fact the levels are exponential.
>>
>>33362417
>Level 0 = Useless
Not always. Sometimes 0s are more useful than a lot of 1s, but they're harder to test or quantify or you're just on the scientist's shitlist and you're not valuable enough to tolerate so they give you a big middle finger in the form of lv0 status.

It sounds like you're going to have your work cut out for you when it comes to making all the things the players vote for be in character. People don't really vote for actions that fit with the disorder unless it's without consequences.
>>
>>33362571
First things first, that quest idea sounds AWESOME, go for it. As far as murder, level 5s are basically unaccountable to anyone short of the Board of Directors, but a level 3 probably couldn't pull it off and a level 4 would need some dark side contacts and probably a patron like ITEM (and even then, they had the benefit of being led by a level 5). Just my 2 cents, though.
>>
>>33362565
Hmm true actually, forgot about Tsuchimikado. Level 0 are those who are 'Worthless' aka Saten, Hamazura, and those they don't understand aka Touma and Tsuchimikado.

There are also those who have control over it but it's worthless. There's one level 0 TK girl who can move individual particles.

Touma is a Level 0 because IB negates his AIM field, preventing him from manifesting his actual Esper powers.
Also, I'm still convinced that /a/'s Hamazura Probability Manipulation theory is correct.

Honestly, it sounds like a bad idea. Players would really struggle with the disorder, and you'd end up with something like a NORG quest.

Problem 2 is that is doesn't seem like someone that would be in Tokiwadai. There's mentions of them rejecting a level 3 princess from entering the school, so to have someone insane enter instead, who doesn't even have level 5 abilities seems incorrect.

>>33362717
Could be, but luck is magic. It's unlikely an esper could control it.
>>
>>33362743
Espers alter probability anyways in order for their powers to function. This power would just do this specifically.

>>33362742
Whatever you do, don't rely on the wiki too much. It has a dreadful tendency to be either inaccurate or far too general in it's descriptions and explanations.

would it be at all possible for them to continue going to another school after getting higher in level? Would Tokiwadai snatch them up?
I feel like anons are far too clever for a plan to account for their actions, and I don't wanna be like 'you're a level five now, but you still go to (insert generic middle school here)'
I guess the story starts out in summer anyways, so maybe they could have attending Tokiwadai be a longer-term goal or something? Being a fresh-out-of-elementary-school student would probably help to justify the room for potential growth in their power, wouldn't it?

I'm super nervous and I really don't wanna screw this up

>I just realized that that Queen lady's mind control remote thingie didn't work on Misaka and that wasn't explained

>>33362882
There's always Accelerator's school, Nagatenjouki. They beat Tokidawai in alot of things, though they're also extremely frustrated as they haven't been able to make a Level 5.

And no, she just constantly emits a powerful EM field. Misaki's power works through EM waves, so it's blocked. Though she could probably control her own brain waves if she wanted, she's got the calculation power.
>>
>>33362882
>>I just realized that that Queen lady's mind control remote thingie didn't work on Misaka and that wasn't explained
Yeah it was. Something about electrical field blah blah makes it not work. Queen tries it on her just for giggles, knowing that it won't work, and all that happens is there's a big shower of sparks.
>>
>>33362882
I assume it's because Misaki manipulates the electrical signals in the brain or something half-arsed like that, and since Misaka is an electro-master it doesn't work because she has total control over hers. As for the Schools, its never really explained. Tokiwadai is a middleschool, but still competes with Nagatenjouki, which is a high-school. Personally I'd see it in the same manner as soccer clubs, you'll go to say middle-school A, but if you start growing rapidly, middle-school B might try to buy the contract to teach you.

As you came out of the toilet you had already decided. Quickly excusing yourself outside for a bit, you check in on Touma’s roommate, Index. You found her staring at the wall, contemplating something. Of course your entry had prompted her to greet you.

“I need more paper,” she said seriously.

“I can see that,” you replied, “You’re not really running out of material are you?”

“I think I could squeeze some more out of the saga of Dalian and Huey,” she answered, “Do I need to decipher another spell from the Second Progenitor?”

“No, I was wondering if you’d mind some company, you know, like an editor or proof-reader?”

“It is kind of boring without Touma around,” she finally admitted.

“Great, I’ll be right back.”

You called up Toshino to meet up in your dorms with as much paper she could afford to buy. Before she could protest you said you would compensate her for it. She was also going to have to do some babysitting today but she didn’t grumble much about that. All in all, your plan was to have Last Order play with Index and Toshino to look after them. You didn’t trust Index and Last Order to not get in trouble. There was absolutely nothing that could go wrong with this.

With that settled it was time to get down to business.

“Alright lads, what have you got?”

“Two things,” Sagara started, “One, a girlfriend, and two, a way in to their main office.”

“As for me,” Kyousuke eyed Sagara suspiciously, “I’ve got some rumours, could be solid info though. They’ve got their fingers in some pretty shady stuff.”

“Well I got some facilities we could hit,” you added, “The question is what lead should we investigate first?”

>Sagara’s way in
>Kyousuke’s intel

>>

It's a high school. Accelerator isn't an actual student there, and is just there on paper. They had no hand in creating him, which frustrates them.

They had a project called Military Alligator that mass-produced Level 4s instead of Level 5s, since 4s are less crazy in general. Worked pretty well.

And yeah, it's mentioned that pryokineticists heat up the air around them all the time. Komoe (the little girl teacher) is actually an expert in the subject, she's written papers about them.

Sounds great. So she'd know about and hate the magic side?

Honestly someone with that mindset would probably just work for the city. Actually, that'd be kind of interesting. Play as one of the bad guys. Though she wouldn't be a bad guy from her own perspective.

Also, the "coffin" ain't magic. Probably. Maybe.
>>
>>33363596
Possibly. But honestly the idea of Magic even existing is so foreign to Espers, that even when they see it they rationalize it as something else. Accel for example sees a chick using Magic and just goes "Huh, much be using history and tradition to back up her Personal Reality". And after the attack on AC at the end of Index 2, it's rationalized as 'Huh, the Chuch is starting it's own esper development.'
>>
>>33363675
Accelerator managed to pick up magic knowledge pretty well though, especially once someone sat down and explained it to him. Fighting the actual Archangel Gabriel probably helped.

Mikoto knows about it as well, she just doesn't understand it since no one has explained it to her.

>>
>>33363661
>What kind of 'position' would she have, then?

>>33363675
Depending on how the players want to rationalize it, it could be anything from 'these assholes are some strange Espers who want our Glorious City to burn' to 'these guys are breaking the way things work; let's BREAK THEM'

>I'm now considering how Kamijou could be portrayed as a bad dude, punching Accelerator and dunking on Misaka and such

>>
>>33363769
>'these guys are breaking the way things work; let's BREAK THEM'
Oh the irony.
>>
>>33363697
The key to these is that someone explained it. Misaka was also told. On their own, they just don't comprehend.

>>33363769
Kamijou is a villain. He tells people they're living their life incorrectly, and afterwards says "Well, lol if you asked for help first I would have been on your side." He also never looks at the greater picture, and is ruled solely by his emotions. Also he sides with a villain who destroyed the world, and tortured him so meh already pretty villain.

Anon, are you implying that people throwing fire and redirecting vectors and teleporting all over the place aren't things that go along with the way things work?

'Cause that sounds like HERESY to me
all I know is that circles and runes don't glow here in MY city
>>
>>33363769
Rationalizing it ain't much of an issue. Most of the city doesn't know about magic perse, but alot of the people who go out into the world know that there's a certain 'something' off that isn't scientific.

Hell, Anti-Skill had entire armor divisions wiped out by Gabriel. The survivors know that wasn't a fucking Esper. American Marines fought magicians in Hawaii. Othinus was known to be a non-Esper threat.

It wouldn't be difficult for the MC of the quest to understand that there's 'something' wrong.

>>33363866
It's kind of hilarious. Touma even admitted he doesn't believe alot of the shit he says in his speeches, he just says them to get people to stop being dicks.

“Hah, I’ll believe it when I see her,” Tadakuni sniped at Sagara.

“That just breaks my heart,” Sagara replied sarcastically.

“Kyousuke, tell me more about what they’ve been up to,” you ignored the bant.

“For one, you remember how they have all those suits yeah?” you nodded, “They have to put them somewhere. A few of my friends were looking around some of their storage places and noticed that it was being emptied out. Rumours say that ITEM was also called in, but no one knows why.”

You had a map spread out with the facilities marked.

“Where exactly did they store them, maybe we can look around there for some records.”

Kyousuke marked over two facilities.

“The one ITEM was supposedly called into was supposedly a derelict,” he added a note.

“I do have a question or two,” Asuka finally spoke, “If they are moving all those suits out, where are they going and for what purpose?”

“Is it really relevant to the job though?” Tadakuni asked, “They can’t have enough people to man them all. Hell Anti-Skill and MAR combined don’t.”

“He’s right but we can’t discount that we may encounter powered suits working security,” you weighed in, “We’re not exactly looking for a fight.”

“Says you,” Asuka interrupted.

“Well most of us aren’t,” you continued, “We should split up, raid their warehouses and look for clues. If that doesn’t work we can go with Sagara’s way in.”

That's generally what AC calls magicians when they're fucking around and trying to warn people about them.

Though alot of Magicians actually are terrorists basically, so there's that.
>>
>>33364745
Good, good...
Does AC have some sort of lower-key anti-terrorist esper force or anything of the sort?
Does anyone know if there are laws against cybernetic implants/augmentations?
>>
>>33364805
>Cyborgs
No laws against them, though so far only dark side characters have extreme modifications. Umidori for example can shoot nitrogen spears out of her hands, so she had thousands of cyborg hands installed.

It's mentioned they require massive amounts of maintenance, surgery, and upkeep. Umidori says it sucks balls.

It can be about as extreme as you want though. Rensa for example is literally just the bare minimum amount of the brain necessary to create a Personal Reality. Everything else is mechanical.

>Anti-terrorist esper force
Sort of. Organizations like GROUP, SCHOOL, BLOCK, ITEM. Generally Espers handle inner city stuff while Anti-Skill handles foreign matters. Some exceptions though.
>>
>>33364805
Not really. Their only internal policing is Judgement, which is more looking after lost kids than fighting. Shirai is a terrible example. They leave fighting to Anti-skill who are generally part-timers. I assume any serious terrorist stuff is monitored by satellite and they send dark side organizations like ITEM or SCHOOL to deal with it before it even occurs. Magic sides tend to not get involved in AC unless they're rogue terrorists, because Aleister will fuck them up.
>>
>>33364970
>>33364980

Right. So implants providing situational analysis and dermal fireproofing would require lots of maintenance and upkeep and would serve as an excellent leash for more black-ops-y kinds of forces...

... I think I'm gonna run out and buy a new notebook real quick
that's a lot of organizations to keep track of
>>
>>33364805
>>33364970
Mugino goes partially cyborg after she loses to Hamazura. They replace her eye and an arm, but I guess it's probably super expensive to do, cause the only people they bother with are high-leveled combat espers.
>>
>>33364980
Anti-Skill can kind of be divided into two categories.

The teachers who actually teach and just patrol the city for the extra pay and to be a good Samaritan. They're the ones who generally police Espers.

Then there's the Anti-Skill who got the bare minimum requirement to become a teacher, and operate AC's military. Their subs, air force, tanks, powered suits. All that fun stuff. They don't actually teach anyone.
>>
>>33365042
A pyrokineticist doesn't necessarily require fireproofing. Most Espers are immune to their own power. Mugino is considered strange for not being immune to hers.

“Kyousuke, are you absolutely, positively sure that ITEM are gone?” you asked.

The time is now afternoon, the weather is sunny, and the date remains unchanged.

“They should be,” his answer didn’t engender much confidence.

“Que sera, sera,” Asuka added in sing-song.

Of course your girlfriend was hoping for some trouble. All of you had decided to check out the derelict facility. If it was derelict there really shouldn’t be any security left. If ITEM were called in for some cleanup then there definitely was not going to be. All you had to do was hope that they were doing some clean up and not guarding the facility.

“Hold up,” Sagara spoke, “I’m catching intermittent activity inside.

He had held his hand to the wall. The building itself had gaps in the wall, gaps that you were exploiting. Sagara’s skill came in handy here.

“What does it sound like?” you asked.

“One person, some typing, I can’t distinguish it with all this noise.”

“Can’t be ITEM right?” you enquired further, “I thought this was supposed to be abandoned.”

“It’s abandoned alright,” Sagara continued, “I’m picking up wrecked suits all over the place, some of them are still running but they’re physically inert.”

“So what’s the plan boss?” Tadakuni looked raring to go.

“Kyousuke I want you on the roofs, get eyes on the building. Tadakuni, scout ahead, look for our mystery person,” he saluted you and hopped in, “Asuka and I will check out the rest, Sagara can you stay here and track everyone?”

“Should be no problem, we’ll keep in touch,” he gave you a thumbs up.

Touma's position actually isn't relevant on this chart. He's kind of impossible to place due to the way his powers work. The blue border means he's just placed there for the sake of aesthetics.

I think our powerset is almost ideal to combat Touma. We have the ability to manipulate shit at range, and could just drop a car on him or something. Also considering later Touma, implies later in the story-line, where we'd also have a power-up, and we get our proper training from Teacher.

First things first, you had the check the offices, hell maybe even their server room if they had one. Tadakuni should be fine for the most part and it wasn’t like the powered suits were going to be of any use to you. It did bring up the question of where STUDY found enough suicidal guinea pigs to pilot them if they were as mangled as Sagara made them out to be. Maybe it was worth checking out later. For now though you were content to search the rest of the building with Asuka. The both of you had your weapons out though both were lowered.

Most the computers were trashed, stolen or only half functioning. The ones that did didn’t have much data on them but you did figure out where the central server was though. You did notice some cabinets that were easily pried open with The Dean. No shipping manifests though, there were only manufactory reports. If there was anything to be said about STUDY it was that they were industrious. The server however yielded more information. They didn’t make sense to you see as it was just a bunch of numbers. Asuka however seemed to glean some kind of information from it.

“These are coordinates, we’re going to run them through a mapping program later,” she started jotting them down, “The other numbers could be anything though.”

The both of you took note of as much as you could. There wasn’t a USB port at the terminal for some reason.

“Kyril we have a problem,” Kyousuke messaged in, “Looks like someone just arrived in a van. I can’t see him too well but he definitely went in.”

“I can confirm that, he’s heading towards our mystery guest,” Sagara added.

“And Tadakuni?”

“He went silent,” was Sagara’s reply, “I can’t hear him when he uses his Ability.”

Obviously.

Coolfax:
If Kyril works on his stability (holding up LO was unsteady, but she wasn't exactly trying to stay still) he could levitate and accelerate 70kg (probably close to his own weight if not a bit high) zero to 60 in 1.18 seconds, that's 2.32Gs. (this requires 15.8m of track or 'barrel' to go with our previous terminology). The Bugatti Veyron Supersport is 2.46 seconds.
This is dependent on his ability to apply constant force to a moving object, which might be trivial if his own body is the reference point for his power, but we don't have much to go on with how his 'point of force' moves.

I find it amusing that, working with Kyril's power, acceleration is much more important than for Accelerator's.

I'm thinking 'running into a young man with remarkable hearing' and 'noticing a strange red-headed girl carrying a sack and eating pocky' type things. Devils left in the details or what-have-you.

I've also considered gender-swapping a few canon characters just to mix things up. Fem!Accelerator or Fem!Kamijou or something.
Probably not Fem!Kamijou, though. Don't wanna make the terrorists too sympathetic, after all.

Alright! I appreciate the advice- otherwise I wouldn't be asking questions, after all!

Should the MC work for a new organization, or would that be too much of a deviation?

I'm thinking purging Skill-Out would be a good starting point for anti-terrorism shenanigans- unless there's a reason for it to exist that matters in the future? I can't recall anything atm, but my in-universe knowledge is full of holes.
>>
>>33366624
First things first, brush up on that setting knowledge before you run anything, that's a pretty big issue. As far as Skill-Out goes, I think as long as Capacity Down still gets tested or you have another way to do that in mind you should be good to clear them out.
>>
>>33366624
The militaristic Skill-Out was purged by Accelerator and Awaki in canon. All that's left after that are remnants of them, and groups that aren't really serious/can't do any damage. Their new leader Hattori is competent enough, but he's mainly good at making sure they hide.

She could either come in before that or mop up the remnants though. Or slaughter the idiot Skill-Out.

And a new organization would be fine. Though so would joining a current one.

Though as >>33366673 said, the setting is fairly complex, especially if you're going to be a science side character focusing on taking down the magic side.
>>
>>33366673
Capacity Down's the anti-esper sound system, right?
Wasn't that developed by the crazy bitch?
I'm trying to remember now, but was she opposed to Anti-Skill and Judgement and such? She headed a search and rescue type thing, didn't she?
i.e., was she a terrorist?

If so, then getting rid of Capacity Down would be priority for any force deploying espers
If not, then Capacity Down would be a key weapon against terroristic threats utilizing esper powers.
>>
>>33366833
AC itself utilizes Anti-Esper systems. The Reformatory (Esper prison) has methods to disperse AIM and weaken Espers (though it still has the highest fatality rate out of every job in AC, besides maybe Hound Dogs).

They don't use them more widely because they require huge amounts of power, so they can only protect static locations. The Board of Directors generally guard their homes with similar devices as well.

Therestina was disavowed by AC, yes. Capacity Down isn't really anything bad though. AC uses it in 19 I think.

“Let’s stick around, they might know something,” you made the call, “Tadakuni, where you at?”

“Right on top of them boss,” he whispered back, “I’ll catch what I can then bug out.”

“Good, we’re still working on our end, holler if something happens.”

With that you continued to assist Asuka in physically transcribing some of the terminal’s data. There was recurring coordinates so those were the ones you prioritised. Along with the numbers you had a history of their movements of what you assumed were powered suits, across the city.

“Kyril we have more incoming,” Kyousuke added.

Goddamnit what now?

“The guys in the van are getting out, looks like salvage tools.”

There went the chance to check out the powered suits you mused. Only five minutes later did you finish. Your way out was barred by the salvage technicians, which you heard loudly cursing as they tried to get their machines to work. Sagara didn’t have much trouble keeping track of them but they were making a bit of a ruckus. Both you and Asuka took a more roundabout path towards the exit. It also led you closer to the mysterious person at the console.

“Shit boss you won’t believe this, it’s Nunotaba,” Tadakuni probably figured it out from the sound of her voice, “I think the one she’s talking to is arguing with her.”

“Should we bail her out, as they say?” Asuka asked.

She was probably looking forward to cracking some skulls. From where you were you could make out the figure point a handgun towards a room which you assumed Nunotaba was in. Tadakuni said he was right on top of them so that probably meant the vents. There were loose objects lying around though so you could distract him. Or you could knock him out.

You gave Asuka a look. She was eager, of that you were sure. The Dean’s red glow seemed to intensify as well. If she wanted this then you really didn’t feel like stopping her. You gave her a nod and a pat on the back. Then she was off. Not faster than you could blink but it was as amazingly fast as ever. You were hot on her heels though much too far. The safety came off as you made sure to watch her back.

She didn’t cut him down immediately. His reaction was slow as she slapped his arm hard with the flat of her blade. Upon closer inspection you recognised his face. Aritomi Haruki, supposed CEO of STUDY and two time consecutive winner of the ACRE Assembly best project award, lost grip of his pistol. It has hard to hold on to it given how his arm had snapped at such an awkward angle. At least he had the sense to back off further down the hall, yelling for help as he did so.

“The salvage guys are heading your way,” Sagara needlessly informed.

Aritomi had fallen flat on his arse and was backing up as fast he could. The broken arm and the terror on his face seemed to egg Asuka on. You walked past an inwardly confused Nunotaba, gun ready.

“Fuck, fuck, who are you working for,” he wasn’t exactly grovelling just yet, “I’ll you double.”

He was stalling.

“Shall I kill him dear?” Asuka asked.

“He’s the CEO,” Asuka pouted, “But you can deal with the other two as you wish.”

She brightened at that and continued down the hall. Sagara was directing her now. You turned back to your unexpected windfall.

“Is that what you want? Money? I got that,” okay now he was grovelling.

You needed information. You were going to get it. It was just a question of how rough you wanted to be.

>>
>>33368184
There aren't any major characters who are pyrokinetics is the issue. Probably because Kamachi figures he already has Stiyl. All that stuff would vary by Esper though.

Stiyl has some cool abilities if you're interested in that. Creating mirages, detecting enemies via their body heat, using the smoke from a cigarette to diagnose people, changing people's appearance by burning their faces and healing it into a different face. He's way more than just a guy who throws around fire.
>>

B-but that's magic stuff

and that's HERESY

I'm just bellyaching 'cause the exact specifications of Misaka's railgun are in the first freakin' chapter of the manga, and all the wiki has on pyros is that there are two of them and one of them was dead when the series started
I'm thinking pyrokinesis is probably mostly gonna involve setting things on fire, throwing fire at stuff, making things hot, sensing hot things and fire, and probably also applying fire to as many situations as possible

cooler stuff can come along at level four, I think

You picked up his gun and heft them casually as you approached. No need to let him know you were a Telekinetic just yet. Funnily enough it was a M1911 as well, though it looked newer. You had them both him and Nunotaba under the gun.

“I need information,” you started.

“What do you want to know?”

You smashed the butt of your gun down on his face.

“I’m asking the questions here,” you asserted, “What are you doing with all those suits?”

“We just make them.”

“Wrong answer.”

You grabbed his broken arm and brought your foot down on it. His screams of pain were ignored.

“I got a bunch of delivery manifests to say you know where they’re going,” you lifted your foot slowly, “Think carefully. What are you doing with all those suits?”

“We were setting them up for security around the ACRE Assembly,” he replied quickly now.

“Sounds like bullshit to me,” you asked Nunotaba instead, “What’s his game toots?”

“He wants to attack to ACRE Assembly,” she answered evenly.

“Fucking traitorous bitch,” he snarled despite the pain.

You turned his own gun on his other hand. Now both of them were out of action. He was probably here because of her but as to the specifics well,

“I don’t like liars. What’s she done?”

“She fucking betrayed us.”

Your foot applied itself slowly on his ruined arm.

“Be more specific.”

“She stole something from us.”

“Something like a Chemicaloid?”

His eyes widened. You raised your gun again so he nodded quickly.

“Where is it?”

“I don’t know, she stole it.”

“Did you?” you asked Nunotaba again.

“It was just a spare,” she answered evenly, “He has the original.”

Aritomi didn’t need knees at the moment. He started sobbing now.

“Where is the original Chemicaloid?”

“It’s…it’s,” was all he managed between the sobs.

“Dear you need to be a bit more gentle next time,” Asuka returned, “The other two have been disposed of.”

There wasn’t much blood on her dress so you assumed she hadn’t hacked them to bits. It appears Aritomi had lost consciousness as well. He was still breathing though.

“We need to leave,” she continued, “Anti-Skill are on their way.”

“You have killed them I hope,” you added.

“They are still breathing,” she replied, “I can hypnotise him.”

Well you certainly weren’t going to sell him off. It was something you decided on and you weren’t going back on your word now. Funny, human trafficking was a no-no, but letting your girl friend abuse his poor mind was quite alright. Well you weren’t perfect.

“He’s not going anywhere, Asuka, if you could be a dear.”

“Certainly,” then she got to work.

Aritomi’s pockets had a strange data stick that Nunotaba seemed eager to have. You let her keep it. There was also another magazine of .45 ACP in his coat which you pocketed for yourself. He didn’t needing his gun either. You also cleaned up after yourself, picking up the spent shell casings.

“So what now?” you asked Nunotaba.

“そう, there are two Chemicaloids,” she explained, “One is safe, the other I need you to help liberate.”

“What’s with the data stick?”

“別に, nothing important,” she answered, “After that, I shall take them away, keep them safe.”

“And the planned attack on the ACRE Assembly?”

“大丈夫, they need a Chemicaloid for it,” she assured, “I will give you the location of the facility. だが, they will powered suits as defences.”

She emailed you an address.

“I’ll figure something out,” you scratched your head.

“Time to go dear,” Asuka was finished.

Nodding, you took her hand and stepped out. The Problem Children left without another witness. All in all, it was a good day in your book. Your next course of action was to,

While drinks sounded good and checking in on Last Order was the most responsible thing to do, you rather sell Toulour some information. Besides, you don’t think you could conduct business while drunk and Toshino hadn’t called you so nothing terrible has happened yet. The lads were free to get themselves inebriated while you sold Toulour some info. Thankfully he didn’t ask you to meet up with him again when you were using the payphone.

“Hello, how’s my favourite Torikov?” Toulour greeted you eagerly, “You have some information on the Chemicaloids?”

He seemed chipper than yesterday too.

“I do,” you replied, “But I have a bit of a problem here on my end.”

“Well we’re obviously willing to pay for it. We’ll even let you get your own shot at it.”

“Good because between me and the Chemicaloid is about several thousand remote controlled powered suits.”

“That is a bit of a problem yes,” Toulour shuffled some papers in the background, “My advice is to get some firepower, or some real muscle. You remember Gage yeah?”

“The arms dealer? I haven’t seen him yet,” you admitted.

“I’ll let him know to give you some of the good stuff, but if you don’t want that then there’s always the option of hiring muscle.”

“All I have to do is give you the info right?”

“I could always use some extra firepower,” you told him, “I think I can find my own muscle.”

Toshino came to mind. If Asuka couldn’t take on that many powered suits, then maybe both her and Toshino could. Idly, you considered calling in Sparky but you weren’t sure how you could secure her services for something so dubiously illegal.

“We’ll do that then, remember where he is?”

“Yeah and here’s the info,” you concluded the deal, “By the way, how come I’m your favourite Torikov now?”

“It’s kinda hard to be my favourite when you’re dead,” Toulour’s mood dropped.

“You weren’t joking when you said my mother was your favourite were you?”

“Of course not, she saved my life.”

“Really?”

“It’s a bit of a long story. Maybe I’ll tell you about it over lunch some day,” then he hung up.

While you stood there listening to the dial tone for a good three seconds your mobile phone came to life. It was a message from Toshino. She wanted you to buy some panties before you returned home.
