16th day of prophecy

This morning results from the short-lived schism amidst the ghost witches of Gwynedd would undoubtedly be a cause of future concerns – either negative of positive – for the future administration of the Commonwealth; it’s a hard thing to make proper judgement with something akin to wild tribes on the fringe of one territory for neither I, nor Gil and Ame-no-Uzume could truly pretend to understand how Yukionnas rule themselves. My dear wife was certainly heavy handed with her words and intimidation of the Matron but the way she rule is unique, just like the Rahall and the southern lizard but at least playing along helped… somewhat.

One matron forcing exile on four of her peers, essentially slaughtering her political enemies, was obviously far from a precedent and I had to swallow my fascination in face of her evident charisma, much different from the earnest passion of Lihua; this situation would have come to blow without the queen of Zipangu, holy site be damned but it’d seem that, without the support of the younger girls coupled with this betrayal the rest of the matrons obliged to the sentence despite Jedina protesting Ame and her fellow Yukionnas accusations until we were finally freed from her presence. There wasn’t any proof aside from certainty of intents given to us by her past subordinates which made it impossible for my brother to issue his own sentence, in the end he promised a boat for the matriarch which was refused at first, but they that squad of ethereal (no doubt homicidal) ghost were forced outside Zipangu as Ame decreed them criminals.

«Agitators against the birth of the Commonwealth»

Whether something happened to them afterward is up to fate; their position is close to fugitive already and there’s no doubt in my mind that, if the crew of the boat leading them back to Gwynedd come to harm, that’ll be the last straw to see them as true enemies.

Jedina, Herma, Kuan and Liu, four matriarchs whose fates I can’t predict were quick to leave the premise of the shrine on their lonesome following the sentence brought from their fellows ghosts, the main encampment of the northern army wasn’t too far and some ship of the navy itself could be seen, small vessels detached from their main corps to scout the water before they set sail tonight; these iced matrons have no trouble going back home, nor would it be complicated to keep some form on vigilance until they step into their native country again.

‘’It’s been a long time since I saw such a heavy handed form of diplomacy’’

It was only after the witches disappear that some form of relaxation settled inside the shrine, not quite the quiet reservation this place truly deserve but certainly magnitudes better than impending doom and constant heat thievery; those girls that remained didn’t abhor looking me in the eyes, even if this entire situation was grown increasingly awkward by the minute, all of these (supposedly walking dead) women had taken a silences of tombs after the matriarchs left for good without fanfare or objections, a rare display of decency.

‘’You’ll get used to it for as long as I sit on my throne’’

Good cheek along with a hint of cheek, Ame-no-Uzume answered the warrior-king of the north with a proper smile for her tone as magic evaporated out of her body without fanfare, prompting me to abandon Focus a few seconds afterward as the high of her potent ritual coupled with near-eruption of conflicts had left me dazed, my gaze still strayed toward Lihua Heikath – a last name I was all too familiar with – which triggered a forlorn longing for Emeth, thankfully I can see the wisdom for her absence for her ever faithful vigil would undoubtedly have her crash a punch right into Jedina face following those subtle attempts on my life.

‘’Ufufu’’

A proud boast followed her laugh quickly followed as the queen stood out her chest proudly breaking the thin line of her lisps with a half-broad smile showing some sharp white teeth as she perused over the clumped group of ghosts before settling her eyes to me and I felt a cold sweat very different from the constant dread of Jedina presence.

Thankfully, something else interrupted what was undoubtedly an unhealthy ‘’request’’

‘’Sirs, Madam. Thank you for listening and believing us’’

One of the Yukionnas had slowly trotted (or should I say floated?) up to our triangle – I recognized her immediately; bright blue hair falling down her head to form a collar around her neck, sharp golden eyes so inherent to monsters worldwide, small stature clad in a simple, thin kimono that would have anyone freezing by now; her feet betrayed her nature as they disappeared in the blanket of snow without disturbing anything. It was the only matron who bothered to stay by the younger witches who by now were forming another line with Lihua in the center; that girl gaze was straight, a similarly vivid golden to Tsukiyomi, Ame and this newcomer that never strayed from me while her unveiled friends looked a little nervous.

‘’Let me open this talk with this comment; what happened a few minutes ago was no betrayal of opportunity but the result of an ideological schism that Cadlha kept from erupting after the Purge – it was only a matter of time before something like this happened – thankfully his grace Gil Rosario and Queen Ame-no-Uzume-no-Zipangu kept a degeneracy of violence at bay, which was my greatest fear and the reason why I bid my time before taking a side. If my falsehood makes you doubt my sincerity, I only ask that you do not think the same with these Youngers ones, who only spoke their heart, thank to your presences.’’

‘’D-doro you don’t…!’’

One of the ghosts spoke, an evidently young looking girl without the uncanny valley present in Jedina spoke up, which made the matron chuckle as she straightened herself, having spoken her lines half-bowed while Ame looked midway between bored and uncomfortable while Gil simply stared in silence.

‘’My name is Dorothea styled Àstridr – the previous name given to the forest Hjalmar – and as presumptuous as I may be, I would like to ask something’’

Having straightened herself, this newly-named arrival smiled – a little voice inside (that wasn’t the Beast, thankfully) whispered «finally» -. Yukionnas were always rumoured as beautiful women and that was undoubtedly true with this sage, incomparable to that hateful crone. «Blue» may have been my first word to summarize this woman but when her features softened and the matron gaze fell on me with warmth and gentleness my heart inevitably skipped a beat, forcing me to look away, dazzled by her organic brightness reminding me of untouched snow glowing with midday sun. «Bright» was an understatement indeed, thus I began scouring my memories for hint or clues in the loops…

‘’I wish not impose on your time…’’

Her eyes strayed from their polite shift between Ame and Gil to settle on me.

‘’…this flock would like to speak with you in private, as would I, only when fancy or business permit’’

Ame reacted promptly with a subtle flicker of tail that gently swiped my side (a shame my clothes were too heavy for me to feel the fluff!) betraying hints of overprotectiveness while my brother turned to look at me, much more obvious in his inquiries without showing much care, only curiosity; he’s probably trusting the set of ice witches already and, thankfully, my wife nor my brother decided to act on their rightful authority as liege to pressure me or the matron.

How about we ask Ame to make sure Athena gets squared away with a prosthetic arm if she comes across her before we do and then hang out with our icebutts? Or if she's our only ride out of here ask Gil to go take care of Athena - it'd be only decent for our brother to get to know our fiance, after all.

I fully expect the exiled matrons to fuck us down the line. Bitches be spiteful.

We should talk to them sometime before the big battle. Perhaps while training them, the matrons were the bulk of their fighting capacity and thus the young ones need to buck up or they'll be slaughtered.

I think it's more the fact that I find blood to be as eerily beautiful to behold as it is terrifying to see smeared all over the walls.

Upon seeing a pretty girl drenched in blood smiling with joy in her eyes, I don't know whether to run for my life or tell her how she couldn't be more beautiful than she is in that moment and give her a hug/ask her out. I know I should run, but she's just so intriguing.

Just popping in to say that I've got a slight interruption of around 10/15 minutes that'll slow down the update.

There was honest to goodness charisma surrounding the now waiting and undoubtedly anticipating Yukionna; my mouth opened to hang still dumbly as I couldn’t tear my eyes away from hers, bright golden spheres nearly shimmering like polished jewelleries as she stared without fear, in fact she seemed relaxed despite the recent events and I had to tear my mind away from this entrancement. Her request wasn’t unfair but today may very well have me busy right up until the night, although… understanding the strengths and weaknesses of these girls may very well prove vital if we wish to stick them on ships for our naval strategies.

‘’Aye…’’

I answered first, not too short but quickly cleared my throat.

‘’Yes, It’d be my pleasure, Dorothea’’

Said girl smiled softly and clapped her hands together, answering my statement with «Good, thank you!» that seemed so honest and jovial I felt my heart melt, however Ame-no-Uzume made he presence known once more by embracing Trance, this time thankfully, without projecting that grandiose display of choking magical might, her veins simply light up in colors while two tails moved to her flanks and started fanning… all this while looking at me.

Whatever you are trying to tell me, dear wife, is unfortunately lost.

‘’As amazing as a backtrack of ankle to knee deep snow in the mountain might sound like I believe it’d be much healthier to go back at once now that this event is concluded; you girls ought to follow us for the time being, the Rahal manor is quite an hospitable place’’

Is it me or did I feel a slight intent of possible rivalry when Ame and the matron crossed eyes?
>>
Either way, Ame didn’t bother waiting while my brother slowly walked beside me; the nine tailed queen had already closed her eyes in concentration and I felt the distinctive swell of power tickle my chest, meanwhile the group of five girls were hugging close to one another like a pack of scared mouses with the blue-tinted Lihua pushed forward eliciting irritated whispers of «stops!», I’d like to get a better look at this lively group – without the veil of illusion none sported skin of blue, my eyes couldn’t quite perceive possible white hair due to all the kimonos.

Thusly did my vision of the group disappear when a tear in the very world itself manifested through the queen magic, interrupted my brother words as he nudged my arm; the usual, big phenomenon of golden, slightly odd-shaped oval geometry hovered a few centimeters above ground, depicting a hazy picture of a furbished, wide room, the one place used for general briefing for the leaders of the alliance.

--

I was third in line to emerge from the golden portal, the room hadn’t changed an iota from the last time with its same, big middle desk arrayed with chair, and only the occupants were something; Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto had apparently stood form her seat to embrace Trance, waved toward our trio while Zechariah and Kyorn were (awkwardly) sitting close to the queen-mother, all of them apparently enjoying tea and some kind of sweet food with the little slime having eaten her fill as several of these circles-shaped pastries floated inside her body…

‘’Ah! Ame, you have to be a little more careful, a portal in such a tiny room is dangerous!’’

‘’You know that I’m more than good enough for that, mother’’
>>
Meanwhile Gil greeted the other two men, with the black winged one standing up to round the table while Zechariah was already shaking hand with the northern king; the wounds of the marauders look thoroughly healed, most likely because of Leila.

‘’Not quite, your portal popped up inside our table so I moved it a little bit… anyhow, I supposed everything went well?’’

Why hasn’t’ the portal clo-

As the closest person, I had unfortunate front-row seat with the shimmering tear; a tidal wave of body came bursting out in speed, six person simultaneously charging out of the portal in a valorous scream (minus one, the matron was closing this impetuous guard) and colliding directly with yours truly.

If I had Mylen reflex I’d probably managed to dodge and recover my balance but here, Lihua fell forward and a brown haired girl tripped on the kimono of one of her fellows to fall forward on their leader back while reaching backward, clutching another girl with blue hairs who in turn pulled someone else – a girl with a bun coiffure – who promptly reached for the shortest, lightest one of the pack who screamed, indignant.

The result was inevitable, for ethereal, ghost-like beings this pack of novices was VERY MUCH real and six bodies fell without an ounce of grace directly on me and the poor Lihua who promptly yelped in misery…

«An image forced itself in my brain as I lay there dumbfounded by the dynamic entry; a line of five kimono-garbed women bowing in unison with a setting sky and a cold, cold scenery covered in snow»

Meanwhile, someone near the table had exploded in laughter

>What should be done? .

>What exactly happens if you attempt to enter a portal that is "in the middle" of something?

It's not as bad as it seem, really. If you open a portan directly in a wall, youwont be able to get through, the one on the table for example would have collide with your knees, forcing you to jump on the table before going through, the obstacles to the portal is actually there physically as a safety measure to avoid instagibs.
>>
>>33386068
Oh thank god. Then again I guess they would figure that one out if, in the past, the more "expected" outcome was a thing. Still, might have been funny to see Ame bang her shin against a table. But the pileup was far more amusing.

‘’Auuugh…’’

‘’Mggh! Stop touching! Is that you Lovise!?’’
‘’Hrrrmf!’’

Yes, this has to be the best dynamic entry in front of important political figures I have ever had the chance to witness and live through. Five bodies lying in a disorganized pile meant lots and lots of wiggling and protests, with the two most unfortunately ladies forced to hug my chest for some kind of comfort until the other three managed to untangle themselves; my eyes could only look downcast of course and Lihua had turned a lovely shade of red as she couldn’t move her head, cheek pressing on the elbow of her fellow whom looked like a tomboyish sort given the short hair and unfitting white kimono, this one a bit too preoccupied to be embarrassed thank to one of the girls hands put rudely on her face.

Only when the matron lifted (yes, literally, lifted) the topmost girl did the pile finally shrunk to nothingness along with some of my pride.

''I believe you'll need some training...’’

While Lihua was very quick to jump to her feet and flee behind the pile of flustered, frustrated girl the only one that stayed within arm-length was the previously-mentioned short haired Yukionna, completely oblivious to her immediate surrounding I cleared my throat and turned toward Tsukiyomi and Ame, both fluffs mouths agape from the spectacle while my brother was trying very hard to hide his chuckles with the two others warriors and finally, the slime was making her amusement obvious as her blobby body wiggled from laughter.
>>
‘’So these girls are…’’

‘’…The Yukionnas yes, novices it’d seem. Minus one of them’’

It was easy to see whom as Dorothea quickly pulled the obtuse girl back in the pile as she took an interest in looking me over, the poor girl almost went flying as I felt a surge of magic from the matron; poor novices indeed, they looked thoroughly out of place which made them twice as lively.

‘’Ah.’’

Tsukiyomi broke into a smile that wasn’t a mask of politeness, although it faded a bit too fast for my liking.

‘’Good work, you three and thank you all for following my daughter back while accepting our cause, your help will be invaluable…’’

--

Dorothea was the only one to talk amongst the girls who kept on whispering between themselves during the debrief where Ame roughly recounted the events, Kyorn and Zechariah presence trusted enough for this information, in the meantime, this provided a valuable time to put my thoughts in orders…

>I’ve promised Dorothea to talk – alone- with all of the novices, I should thus own up on this before any other business today. Maybe even start training them myself.

>Seek out one of the girls, Leila, Sylphis, Athena… My presence might not be needed for the time being. Perhaps I ought to speak with my mother as well, the Yukionnas awaken a latent memory of the loops – this ought to be investigated.

>Investigate the murders, perhaps there’s things the squads overlooked…Maybe I could speak to some of the immediate suspects, perhaps bring a wingman?

>Concentrate on the prisoner, that fell werewolf should be secured under arrest, she ought to have valuable information…

‘’Your bluff was a dangerous gamble’’

Having finished listening to her daughter Tsukiyomi remark caught my attention.
‘’Bluff? Now now, it was only half a bluff, half a lie, nothing –exactly- untrue, right? They were spewing dishonorable stuffs inside Orochi sacred shrine so the dragon got mad, that’s all there is to it’’

Meanwhile the newly-formed trio of males were enjoying a more close knit talk after my brother introduction, mention of Durendal could be overheard here and there while Zechariah also spoke about his Holy sword – a kinship of warriors in the making, undoubtedly, only the slime wasn’t enjoying herself.

‘’Ah, Dorothea… this’ll be a prime opportunity to sneak away’’

Not that I was making myself anything but obvious, the novices and matron alike were probably feeling a little out of place with this casual atmosphere; thankfully the matron was quick to understand and nodded, while the quiet pile of novices twitched in response to her beckoning. They gave me the mental images of scared pups, yet too proud to look overtly distressed despite the intimidations of the fluffed ones, then again, Ame tale about that Rebellious Eventide didn’t paint a pretty picture of her mother.

‘’Hmm? Siegfried?’’

Not even one step toward the door that I was caught red handed.

‘’I’ll be leading these girls in the mansion, you take care of everything else, Tsu’’

‘’Of course…’’

She answered back immediately, going as far as closing her yes, smiling in a cross of bitter amusement while her fluffy ears twitched while Ame stifled a laughter.

‘’…I don’t have anything to worry about as you take off with these impressionable girls, I’ll be hollering if I need you’’

‘’I am not!-‘’

A spirited reproach erupted right afterward from the Yukionna group, the last of the girls to have been pulled in the pile was the culprit as she faced Tsu while putting her hands on her hips, cheeks reddened in adorable red. She looked tiny and fragile, smaller than every single person here (actually, she was just as tall as Tsukiyomi who, obviously, doesn’t have northerner ancestry…). Her hair formed two little buns beside her head which in turn fell in twin tails down her back while several other strands of dark organic silk cascaded past her shoulders all the way down to her elbows; her kimono sported a floral pattern without reverence, her eyes however, smoldered with purple intensity and vitality, there was something I couldn’t place about this one…

Perhaps ‘’Innocent’’ would be a good adjective but it’d be highly presumptuous to sticker this one already.

At least she had the guts to stand up by herself, Tsu was smiling broadly now; completely and thoroughly charmed by this girl, unable to contain motherly love.

Unfortunately the scene didn’t continue for a potent, sudden and short lived burst of magical corruption caught everyone off guard, which in turn, inevitably… created a little bit of a mess, along with certainty of attacks from the novices, thankfully there wasn’t any cause for concern for I, along with Tsu and Ame, understood this peculiar magic to be work of the Demon Lord.

--

It took probably a good twenty additional minutes before went back to my (or should I say the) commune room which hasn’t been disturbed, only vacated. Revealing the existence of the Demon Lord as impromptu ally to the Yukionna wasn’t exactly wise on such short notice so instead a promise was made by our fluffed ones; once the culprits come back, they’ll explain what happened, Dorothea will be present for this ‘’debrief’’.

‘’Awawa… alone with the Butcher’’

‘’Oh man this is comfy!’’

‘’Lovise, sit!’’

‘’Meh…’’

They were trying hard to relax, Dorothea was the only once facing me, sitting on her knees while trying to (fruitlessly) rope the novices for some disciplined dialogue, none of them had the cadence of a military upbringing or training that was so overwhelmingly prevalent amidst the monsters of Zipangu and it was charming indeed, but they wanted me here and we ought to move on to business, which means, talking about the Butcher. ‘’It’s time own up on my promise thus I would like to ask to know whom it is that I am sharing seats and words with; we haven’t had any time for a proper introduction’’
Dorothea was the only one facing me properly, her features softened into another sparkling smile, sending a flutter in my heart as the sheer radiance of this would-be ghost was enough to thoroughly charm me, there was a gentle sternness in her expressions and movement that seem to whispers words of encouragement, such a thoroughly different aura compared to Cadhla stasis and Jedina hostility.

‘’Of course!’’

There wasn’t any idle talk amongst the girls anymore but they didn’t make the effort of standing any closer either, they were instead sitting idly by here and there on the sea of mattress, each of them running from my gaze, making the atmosphere very awkward indeed as I saw a few blushes creep up here and there.

‘’Dorothea styled Àstrid, as you know; matron of the Yukionna refuge of Hjalmar, we’ve also given the name of Gerdy to our safe haven… my purpose was to teach and train these excited little upstarts you see before you; I’m sure you’ll come to like them as much as I do in no time, now then…’’

Completely breaking her previous gallant image, Dorothea licked her lisps ominously and turned toward the group whereupon a synchronised cold sweat visibly ran down each of them and, with wiggling finger and a most tortuous smile, the matron embrace Trance, formed a quick hand of ice, and grasped the wrist of an unfortunate girl who yelped in protest as she was forced upward.

It was that short haired, white kimono-clad girl who became second victim in the pile (first one being Lihua, of course). She took a demure stance, ruffling her thin kimono back to position which didn’t work too well to conceal the boyish clothes underneath; short, dark purplish hair seemed to shine a deeper shade with the alchemical light while her eyes formed cute, slightly uneven amethysts-colored sphere with enough brilliance to rival these gems, these colors free of corruptions were very refreshing indeed, if not downright adorable, I couldn’t help but smile when she couldn’t look me in the eyes as a blush crept on her face.

‘’Ahem, WEell..’’

Her voice broke and thus she cleared her throat again and finally lifted her head to look me in the eyes, frowning slightly as her mouth feel agape in silence.

‘’I’m… Lovise. Lovise styled Fendall and I… fought in the Purge’’

Now that pinched my heart far from a good way, it must have shown on my face as she grimaced in turn and immediately looked away.

‘’S-sorry, I’ve never been good at dealing with this stuff! So huh, I’m not the best of mages and I’m one of the best at enchanting my body so huh… is that okay, Doro?’’

Said matron was subbing her lisps with her index before letting out a short sigh through clenched teeth.

‘’Continue like that and men will eat you up, y’know?’’

‘’Hush!’’

And with that Lovise styled Fendall seemed to gain a resurgence of pride as she whipped around to throw one of the pillow at the matron who deftly punched it down midflight, her student had already crawled away and shoved another one of her sister our way.

‘’Your turn!’’

She said at the poor girl who froze like a scared prey as she straightened herself upward, sitting on her knees in a position mimicking the matron with a noted modification; the girl was hiding her right arm behind her back, and while curious I decided to drop the issue entirely. She was tall, perhaps the tallest of the entire group with long, long bright blue hair reminiscent of the matriarch sitting not even ten feet away; they flowed like eternal snow, shining with surreal tint while looking solid, thick and very cold indeed – in fact her entire presence radiated a strange, unique chill – but to compare her like a statues would be wrong; she was girl through and through, her breathing was regular if nervous and her eyes were two piercing, glaring rubies – I felt corruption inside the girl, a minuscule amounts, but it was there, in stasis and for a moment Mylen sprouted to mind, both situation eerily similar indeed…

‘’A-ah…’’

She choked right at the beginning, balling a fist from the tissue of her white kimono she shot a helpless glance toward Dorothea who nodded in turn, gesturing lightly for her to continue.

‘’I-I…. Um….I-I’m…. M-my n-name…m-my n-name…’’

The rest of her sentence died with a groan and she immediately looked down, grimacing.

‘’Ma-ma-ma…m-m-Malasintha! Malasintha s-s-styled….s-styled W-W-Wibek-k…Wibeke!’’

She let out a long sight afterward and then promptly embraces Trance, bit on the sleeve of her arm and pulled it up to her shoulder then promptly wrote on her inner arm, showing it to me as each small letters formed themselves in bright blue, heavily contrasting her pale flesh.

«I was in the Purge as well but I hold no grudge, mister Shieffer; you’ve always intrigued me»

‘’I see… thank you, Wibeke is right on the frontier with Central isn’t it? That must have been a long journey northward…’’

She nodded silently, biting down on her sleeve again then half-bowed her head and excused herself.
What an interesting girl…

‘’Humph! Third in line to meet a man of noble blood, a shame! A shame!’’

The next victim (I really should think that) was much prompter to talk; it was the same girl that confronted Tsukiyomi, smallest of the group by a wide margin (meaning just the same height as my short, fluffy lover) an aroma of summer flowers wafted from her person as she stood straight on her knees, facing me with awkward rigidity that’d definitely pass as non-organic; her purple colored eyes immediately reminded me of Lovise and I greeted her in turn, nodding my head while trying to avoid smiling.

‘’First off don’t go forgetting Malasintha effort just now, y’hear? You ought to go buy her a gift aft-‘’

A pillow smacked her right behind the head.

‘’Gah! Who!? I’m introducing myself here, girls! Introduction! First impressions! These are important in the world of nobles!’’

Trust me, you’ve given me plenty already; that spirited girl clutched to the pillow and put the thing on her knees, sinking her fingers in the soft fabric.

‘’Ahem! My name is Cateline! And… that’s that, pleasure to meet you mister Bu… wait no, mister Shieffer!’’

A deep bow followed but the matron had some objections since she crawled closer to her student and gave her a pinch on the hips which of course provoked a strident «Gaaah!?» somehow growing –even more- rigid.

‘’Where are you from?’’ Dorothy asked without a hint of mercy.

‘’I-I’m not from that dinky mountain! I come from somewhere much prettier!’’ Protested the student.

‘’Where are you from?’’ The matriarch repeated, twisting her pinch slightly.

‘’FFFFf….Fendal! Cateline styled Fendal! Damn it!’’

She followed by smacking her teacher in the face with the pillow and making a quick retreat, the hole was quickly filled by one of the last remaining two.
Unlike her sisters she wasn’t on her knees; prompting herself on all fours she crawled closer…and closer and in turn I inches myself away slowly…slowly. Her own was brown, dark, healthy brown put in a comfortable bun on the back of her head while her eyes shone in blue, as if two sapphires were plucked from the depth of minerals riches; the girl beauty came from her soft, quiet features to create a feminine, entranced face that’d easily be lost in a crowd but the more I stared, the more hypnotised I started to feel; the dark kimono with herb-like motifs simply enhanced this beauty of hers.

‘’Would you like a melody?’’

She asked with a smile, embracing Trance, lighting her vein in blue while stopping her movements and instead outstretching her hand where a flute slowly morphed itself, beautiful instrument of shining ice; she clutched the instrument with care betraying dear emotions but quickly let go of magic when a reproachful «Ahem» came from the motherly maiden.

‘’Oh… right.’’

Without a hint of the shame that plagued her sister, the girl sat on her knees and I let go of my sustained breath.

‘’Tsura styled Tyra. Pleasure to meet you, sir’’

She adorned that short sentence with a bow and stepped away… more like crawled away by moving her knees, as if too stubborn or lazy to outstretched her legs, which for some reason, provoked the matron to rub her face with her palm.

That void was quickly filled by the last individual, Lihua who sat cross legged, straightening her body and looking deep in my eyes without straying, nor was she plagued by the timidity of her fellows, a flame was burning bright inside her, fueling spirit and body alike to give a charisma that I couldn’t quite place; similar to Hadraniel mayhap, but definitely much more unique.

‘’Lihua styled Heikath, I’ve longed to speak with you, Siegfried Shieffer, for a long time now’’

She stopped with a little bow, closing her eyes while pressing her lips together in sudden frustration.

‘’I don’t… none of us want to make you uncomfortable, sire but I will ask you all the same; why is it that you became the Butcher a few years ago? What made you go on this path?’’

With this question, the entire atmosphere changed.

Ah… I can’t escape this past.

Might as well spill the beans on that. He did it because he wanted to help his house somehow, to contribute somehow as he was an adopted bastard I believe.

Too bad for everyone he was both very good at killing and hated doing it to people who weren't really evil and deserving of it. Meaning the whole affair wrecked his mental state and threatened his sanity, but he soldiered on until the ones he loved and was trying to help ordered him to stop because they saw what it was doing to him. Very sad really, too bad the crones weren't at all interested in hearing his side of the tale.

Don't forget that he also did it to keep his mother safe, since the Grand Inquisitor of the time pretty much threatened to use the full ressources of the Faith to kill her for the crime of attacking the Order agents.

Also feel free to actually write your sentences.

So the order killing Avina and sending Mana into rage mode was what ultimately led to Siggy becoming a killer and landing us fryface as an eternal foe...

Man, that's friggin' harsh. Just chatting up a sweet little girl as a kid led down one of the darkest paths conceivable. At least now he has a chance to fix everything.

What kind of person was this inquisitor? Any good response will have to include mention of him and how he went about training young Siggy to be, I assume, a fine and upstanding member of the Inquisition.

Did he cut a deal with this man, saying he'd become just that if he would spare his mother or was it something else? While Siggy knows all about it I don't think we ever got told the whole of that aspect of that story, only that it involved a pregnant lamia, a rack, and Siggy choking her to death as his first confirmed kill.
>>
>>33392113
He needed a show of Faith from Siegfried and the country of Gwynedd as a whole since, according to him, most of the dignitaries of the Church were finding the northerners faith increasingly lacking (despite the burning of their king for heresy). What Mana did was almost a last straw to unleash the inquisition but, if young Shieffer were to prove himself, he’d kept that nightmare at bay, it’d be much, much better for Gwynedd to resolve the monster infestation internally after all.
Obviously, the first ‘’show of faith’’ was that pregnant Lamia.
As for the guy himself, he was a short fat pig of a man with some serious Holy potency and loyal retainer’s mage-knights that did a marvelous job to keep him safe.

Despite the obvious short coming, that Grand Inquisitor didn't appear corrupt (as in, indulged himself in sex or food or money) just very extreme in his hatred of monsters.
>>
>>33392194
So now that's two monster hating extremists who had tons of mana and holy as their element. Damn, no wonder the inquisition is full of these people. It's like god is implying "this is the true path" by making such individuals powerful wielders of his divine power.

I know that's not how it really is, magic is random, but if that happens enough times any good demagogue would seize upon it in their attempts to evangelize the gospel of slaughtering monstergirls.

I'm also not seeing a short answer for this one being sufficient. It will appear that Siggy will have to deliver a long exposition speech. Would that be sufficient?

"Circumstances started me on that path. My mother killed an Inquisitor, when said Inquisitor killed a yukionna friend of mine and threatened me.
"In retaliation, the Inquisition threatened a Crusade against Gwynedd and to bring the full weight of the Faithful down on my family, if we didn't prove our faith. Mostly me, and the way that they wanted me to prove my faith and loyalty to the Church's teachings was...well, you know what happened.
"It was to either do that, or have the Inquisition come in and do it all anyway, this time targeting my mother, and the humans of Gwynedd, as well as the monsters.
"So, I made a choice. To protect Gwynedd, to protect my mother. That's little consolation to those who lost family and friends to what I did, but there you have it."

“I think you deserve the whole story. It all started with Avina. She was a young Yukiwarashi I met when I was a young boy. I enjoyed her company and I quickly fell for her, but sadly a short time after that some knights of the church found her and killed her in front of me and my mother.

Enraged, she slaughtered all but one of them. Afterward the High Inquisitor threatened to kill her and unleash the might of the inquisition upon Gwynedd because of that unless we and the country were to provide him with a 'show of faith', as to him both were very much lacking in piety. Obviously, that show of faith was the purge.

The first thing he had me do was kill a defenseless, pregnant Lamia. He told me that her tears and cries for mercy were all lies meant to make me doubt myself. That at their core monsters only cared about fulfilling their own selfish desires, all else was merely an act meant to deceive the naieve and foolish. I couldn't accept that in my heart however, and the more monsters I met the more convinced I became that it was he who was lying. I took to wearing a mask because I didn't want anyone to think of me as a human, because the more I killed the less I felt like one myself. The moniker they gave me was fitting. 'The Butcher' is an appropriate name for a mass murderer, and that's exactly what I saw myself as.

Eventually, Mylen and my family ordered me to stop. They said they couldn't bear to see my anguish any longer and that they'd find a way to get me out of that situation. Shortly thereafter the High Inquisitor was killed and the purge ended. So there you have it. I killed to protect the ones I loved, and I'm not sure I'll ever be free of this guilt I feel over it."

I underestimated how much I dreaded that inevitable question; not all of them had, apparently, acted during the Purge but they still shared a single-minded curiosity without, thankfully, the harsh bitterness and rage fueling victims of conflicts. Whether they suffered as harshly as members of the resistance or the stalwart matron that took side with them remains to be seen (or perhaps I’ll simply never know) but they lived through that time as much as I did, yet still kept enough sense to give me the benefit of the doubt.

As I peered onto Lihua I couldn’t hold a stare with the earnest gold of her gaze; her honesty was nearly palpable and I wondered for a moment if she were actually holding her heart on her sleeve as she stood straight, waiting for me as I kept on churning words in my head «what made you go on this path?» she asked, a question that mirrored every one of their opinion, even the matron didn’t appear to disagree as she sat eyes closed, diligently waiting while the other novices liveliness had died down, most of them sneaking glances that I pretended to not notice.

‘’Circumstances started me on this path, I was around… sixteen or seventeen years old when that mask came out of the household.’’

It’s hard to properly pinpoint, the date of my own birthday always felt like a fogyish morning dew on the morning calendar; yet three certain individuals never forgot it once.

‘’I spent the last part of my childhood and early adolescence inside that college of magic up north; I’m sure you know the place’’

As my primary interlocutor Lihua nodded, albeit stiff with sudden nervousness; colors drained slightly out of her face and I decided it’d be best to avoid perusing over the faces of the other girls, else I simply won’t be able to speak anymore.

‘’I’m mentioning it now is because something very important happened a few weeks after my first coming there with my mother – I had decided to accompany her instead of staying inside my household to become a knight like I first dreamed of – I met a girl back then, a veiled one perhaps for I remember the blue skin and white hair clearly. It’s only later I understood that she was a Yukiwarashi, her name was Avina and she became the first friend I ever had, even my mother played with us during her free time and I grew a crush fast which never healed in the following years.’’

There was sudden grave «Hrm!» squeezing past Lihua sudden stiff face; a flash of rage came across her face, perhaps directed at me of maybe accusing I couldn’t guess, nevertheless her nails dug into the flesh of her fist ominously, perhaps I’d been a little too casual – the other girls had all been roused by passing emotions of empathy as well while Lihua was the only one facing me, eyes watering slightly which stabbed me in the guts despite the dulling melancholy.

‘’I’ll spare you the details, Inquisitors found out about her existence and inevitably, did what they do best; I was here when it happened and couldn’t do shit, but my mother came instead and was enraged enough to kill two of them and disfigure the last one as a message to the Church; something the faith never forgot because the High Inquisitor himself came to Gwynedd a few years later’’

His arrival wasn’t unknown, it was a subject of fascination and dread alike inside the entire large country of Gwynedd; shortly afterward the Purge began in earnest.

‘’The Inquisition was ready to retaliate for this insult; that man threatened to unleash the might of the Faith itself upon Gwynedd unless a proper show a faith could convince him otherwise; my mother could be pardoned, she was the strongest mage of the North – perhaps of the entire world – but the superpower of the Church would trample all over our country itself if it need to, for the faith of the northerners was lacking. The wound left by Avina was still aching and bitter, my mother was one of the few people that I held close to heart and I was too emotional to see clarity and come with proper counterarguments…not that it excuse anything’’

It’s hard to stay completely neutral to this mess, talking from one point of view inevitably warp a story and I certainly hold guilt and regrets over this entire mess; I spotted Dorothea gaze forming a thin dangerous line before relaxing into a proper, soft image of motherly empathy. Whom she was looking at first was impossible to tell, Lihua had broken her stare now, closing her eyes and inching forward a few millimetres while looking down in silence while the other girls all tried to hid their own heavy mood; for a moment I saw tears threatening to spill out of a pair of brilliant reds eyes, the girl of Wibeke.

‘’The reason why I took on the mantle of Butcher was to avoid the entire inquisition from coming to my country and do the Purge themselves, my show of Faith…’’

My voice died for the next few seconds which prompted the matron to speak «You don’t have to speak about that» she said, which made Avina’s sister frown in slight dejection; now everyone knew what I did to that Lamia, maybe it’d shatter their precious first impression (like that one princess held dear)but I’ve never been one to jump away from the flames.

‘’…was to strangle a pregnant Lamia attached to a torture table while that piggy man kept on preaching about his truths of monsters, for brevity I’ll spare the details’’

The scene painted a vivid image in my mind; I had to close my eyes to avoid looking at these bright novices, there wasn’t a hint of hatred in their eyes, only sadness, empathy, rage, even rebellion but no outright hostility; silent lamentations of the past, perhaps? Or was it something even simpler?

It’d be best not to think about that that; Lihua was silent, awkwardly scratching her face while trying her best to avoid grimacing; I couldn’t begin to image the poisonous cocktail of emotions brewing inside her, thus I pursued.
‘’The mask came afterward and we both know what happened afterward because there’s no secrets; only two side, the resistance was formed around a man who couldn’t sit still and me the Butcher of the King as they liked to say, despite Gil never once approving – or disapproving – of this event. The mask was a shield for my sanity, a role I engrossed myself in playing, the lies that I had to exterminate monsters was something I tried to believe myself, else the High Inquisitor wouldn’t be satisfied with my honest faith’’

A bitter sigh marked the end of this spiel, what came afterward at least, was a tad hopeful – the entire fight between the Hjalmar noble house, my own and the resistance of the refuge ought to be known to them all.

‘’I see… that’s why you began walking this path and why the monsters of Zipangu trust you’’

The Butcher of Gwynedd fighting with the free monsters of Zipangu is a tale of irony… and favoritism from a certain goddess, I’m an extremely lucky man, all things considered.

‘’I’m not going to take credits over killing the High Inquisitor; there’s no confirmations over his demise only doubts along accusing the Resistance of the deed, but it wasn’t the monsters who ambushed and killed him; my mother, my uncle and a handful of knights annihilated his retinue while my bodyguard went to rescue after being captured – those three, along with every one of the Shieffer Knights- never once approved or took joy in the Purge and more importantly, made their opinions known to everyone that bothered asking, even speaking out loud when nobody did.’’

Part of me wanted to add a little bit of an insult but I figured that was more than enough self-jeer to satisfy blossoming hatred on my person; not that anything of the sort was happening, the previous girl on the verge of crying had jumped over now, sniffing quietly onto one of the many sheets while one of her fiend – Lovise- rubbed her back constantly, whispering little worlds that wouldn’t reach my ears. Lihua hadn’t budged an inch; obviously she needed some time to rummage her thoughts, a question did however, come from their group.

‘’I…huh… Ahem’’
>>
It was the spirited novice Cateline who spook out loud, all but shattering the dreary, sluggish atmosphere as she cleared her throat at the attention, even letting out a dejected «hmph».

‘’I’ve got two questions so… huh here goes. I wasn’t in the Purge so I can’t pretend to know how it was, but you, mister Siegfried, look like you seek some kind of penance; is the purge the reason why you’ve thrown your lot with Zipangu? You’ve already told your loyalty in the shrine but… well, I’d just like to make sure, yes? I don’t want to insult you, I think Dorothea would know if you lied’’

Afterward this girl (whom I thoroughly underestimated as a bit of a simpleton ) frowned slightly and looked down, breaking my stared as everyone beside Lihua were now looking at her.

‘’My second question is simpler, in a sense; why didn’t the King do anything? Did he truly didn’t have enough authority from preventing his subjects from slaughtering human populations? Or was there some other reason?’’

It's hard to put it to them in a way that won't potentially screw us. We've stated our loyalty but not the underlying reason for it, which is exactly the same as our motivations for the purge. Why didn't Gil do anything?

Did he intentionally let the Purge occur in order to bring all of his political enemies together so that he could strike them down in a single, short, civil war?

Going full disclosure here risks telling the yukionna about the realpolitik reasons for the mass murders.

But Fendral is great and good. She's smart, has a sense of humor, was kind enough to warn Daiyu about the threat to her daughter so lazybutts could be evacuated, and is willing to play ball with the commonwealth in exchange for some relatively minor favors.

By the numbers, Fendral is superior to Daiyu and Kyorn combined.

>>
>>33409567
I want to affirm that we are doing this as part of penance, but the primary reason why we've thrown our lot in with Zipangu is because we believe it's the right course of action.

If we only say that it's because of our pursuit for redemption, then that cheapens our oath of allegiance to the Commonwealth.
It becomes not a matter of us doing right things because they're right, but because we want to be redeemed.

For the second question, say that we can't speak for King Rosario, because we were not part of his inner circle at the time, so she will need to ask him directly. But remind them that the previous king was burned as a heretic, showing that the current king's position was precarious.
That implies that the king was unable to intervene until there was enough public opinion on his side, without outright saying it, presenting enough reasonable doubt that he didn't do it simply for political expediency and long-term gains.

As time passed in silence while I rummaged the questions I began to understand that those interrogations of hers were sharper than I first thought; the girls (whom I couldn’t help but see as cadets) seems increasingly intrigued as well with the matron inching closer to pat the girl on the head, prompting a cute squeak of an «Eh?» to emerge from this would-be princess.

‘’I spoke the truth back then, yes. But… you aren’t wrong, penance, redemption of any sort, is something I’ve long sought after, perhaps to lessen the guilt in my heart. I don’t know if I can find it, I’m not the best judge to affirm if I deserve it as well but I know what I was doing back then was wrong, right from the moment I stepped out and donned my mask’’

A small thoughtful «hmm» was my answer as Cateline nodded afterward, slapping away the hand of the matron in a gentle huff before perusing over Lihua who finally let out an awkward breath, shining, glossed eyes opening slightly while bitter resentment created stiff lines on her features, her crisp grasp and potential self-harm from this overload of sudden stress evaporated by the seconds as fatigue dropped her shoulders accompanying a little sigh afterward.

‘’Lihua…’’

A voice emerged from behind, the only novice who wasn’t overloaded with some kind of emotion back there was Tsura and now she was looking in our direction with hint of worry crossing her face.

‘’I’m fine’’

She answered back with quiet anger while avoiding my gaze. I decided to get to business right then, if only to change the atmosphere.

‘’I don’t know how to answer your second question because the truth is elusive even to me; it’d be better to ask Gil Rosario. ’’

‘’Yes, yes I just might do that!’’

That double-buns haired girl followed by loudly clapping her hands together while announcing this ridiculous wish, obviously the matron had other idea and pinched the girl out of her reverie, therein beginning a cascade of protest with words that weren’t too kind for my brother, followed by accusation of sheer incompetence and sociopathic opportunism from the nobles, however she quieted down once Dorothea reminded her that Gil father burned for heresy.

A bright, spirited girl, this Cateline but her question still rummaged in my head, over and over and over… Why didn’t Gil do anything? He’s never been an absent monarch, easily taking part and vising the various nobles of the land before even ascending the throne but this important even ,this massacre of northeastern Gwynedd wouldn’t have gone unnoticed even with the Inquisition, he might have been able to negotiate their leaves – the death of his father, even if he wasn’t popular, still sent a huge resentment throughout the entire country; northerners don’t take kindly to people telling what to do and nobody accepted the insult of an incompetent king burned by outside judges.

Oh, actually the answer is obvious; one doesn’t create a reform of a religion while simultaneously ousting priests and other administrative members of the Faith not loyal to the crown overnight; the Inquisition must have sniffed out something and I guess the correct course of action was to stay silent until the bedrock finished its formation.

…I hope that’s why you stayed your hand, big brother.

As silence started to stretch ever so slightly I felt a brief surge of magic which in turn made everyone look toward one of the novice- Tsura styled Tyria- whose newly embraced Trance light up her veins in quiet blue, delicate hands holding what looked like a musical instrument of transparent ice; a violin rested upon her shoulder and already she cradled the bow, letting it slide upon thin strings nearly invisible to the eyes. The magic was beyond delicate, beyond precise, every morsel of its construction reproducing a perfect construction made from memory and the mind alone; the sound that exited that magical instrument wasn’t a strident or broken slide but instead a vivid note which quickly continued into a sad, short lived tune, merely a few notes stringed together that disappeared into nothingness as the newborn violinist stopped her tune, still cradling her instrument with enough delicacy to mistake it for a newborn.
‘’Lihua, Siegfried, right now the two of you are singing a sad song.’’
Her brilliant eyes closed, her mouth curled upward while her features fell in melancholy.
‘’You should let go; it’s not hypocrisy to avoid poisonous grief, you’ve held for long enough.’’
‘’AVINA IS-‘’

Tyria interrupted her friend with a painful, strident note of her instrument, everyone immediately covered their eyes aside from me and the matron as I pondered a strange fact; that simple note elicited a short lived sentiment of fear in my guts.

‘’Let go, Lihua; let go, Siegfried else this violin play the song of your funeral’’

She ended there, immediately picking up the pace with a few heavy notes of her instrument while Lihua seemed to be trembling in emotions, face warped by rage, grief, sadness… she won’t be able to stay inside the room for much longer and, as I gave a quick look to the door, I saw it ever so slightly open, obscured silhouette looking inside without a single hint of shame.

So Avina was Lihua's sister and we drudged up some pretty horrible memories even though we did say we fought to save her. Sadly young Siggy wasn't as potent as adult Siggy. And Tsura apparently knows how to ensorcell music and weaponize it. Not good in a frantic large-scale battle with all the booms drowning it out, but against a single person to a small group in a quiet room it would be quite devastating.

Might as well confront the spy. Tell them to reveal themselves. Maybe get a bit closer to the door so when we do, if they bolt, we might catch a glimpse of them.
>>
>>33412012

>>33412053
Then what was she going to say? That Avina is still alive? That she can still feel Avina's soul?
We need to ask Lihua about it, but it needs to be asked delicately.
"I'm sorry that I couldn't save Avina. It's just one in a long line of regrets that I have."

It's magic, why would the sound waves have to be identified as such by listeners when the magic-enhanced sound waves are still being propagated regardless of whether they can be distinct from other sounds?

>>33412134
So we could train the girls to help amplify her magic and have her spam "Death Notes" that only affect angels. If it can be targeted like that then ouch, sucks for our enemies.

>>33412194
True, magic ain't gotta explain shit. But I always assume the possibility of hard counters being rather mundane. Cover counters most offensive magic (or at least keeps it from killing you for awhile), loud sounds countering sonic or musical magic, ect. Magic is not almighty.

>>33412277
Except those counters don't even work against mundane sound waves or sonic weapons, so them having an effect on magical sonic weapons is even less likely.

Well, I would like to know how exactly the magic works. After all, while magic ain't gotta explain shit, it also conforms to rules that may not make total logical or scientific sense.

If the note has to actually be heard and differentiated then loud noises will defeat it unless it is loud enough to be heard over it or in spite of it. For example, think about how Azaka avoided Satsuki Kurogiri's "unified language" mind control trick in KnK. You see, you had to actually hear the words somehow in order to be controlled by them. So she just put in some headphones and maxed out the volume. Problem solved, as she couldn't "hear" a word he said.

Lihua was on the verge of crying or lashing out yet kept herself in check marvellously indeed, although having forgone sitting on her knees she leaned back in a tired sigh as the melody of the violin continued; slow, methodic and heavy the notes plucked by the thin ice bow sliding across the similarly constructed strings created sounds that put my heart at ease while simultaneously bleeding out regrets and sadness; a strange duality far form healthy that squeezed painful throb in my chest, I became increasingly tempted to stop this song, persuaded of its lethality but stopped instead by standing up, quickly stepping away from the mattress which created various emotions amidst the novices but nobody made a move to stop me, Lihua thankfully, looked to be calming down, as if the melancholic tune was healing.

I wasn’t very obvious with my intent to that peeping tom who never stepped away and instead took on to observe me until the very moment I grabbed the handle of the door and swung it open, allowing the song of the violin to stretches onto the vacated corridor whereupon a crouching woman stood up, squeaking out a quiet little ‘’hi’’ while her brightly colored hair of golden-purple fell on her face.

While tempted to reply I simply grabbed the back of her neck and shoved her inside, promptly closing the door while pretending I wasn’t seeing the hint of fluffy tails around the corner.

This sudden intrusion was enough surprise to kill the melody in earnest, something marked by thus excitable mother of mine as she went «aaaw» while the circle of novices alongside the matrons sported invisible question mark above their heads as each one looked midway between flabbergasted and amused, even that one girl who’s been crying for a while perked up.

‘’Everyone, meet my mother. Mana Shieffer’’

Mother Earth would be too bold a claim for this woman a head shorter than I was.

Of course, I will summarize the following cascade of reaction as a perfectly tuned «Whaaaat!?» couple by an insulting «Ziiik!» of the violin which churned my guts rather painfully; while glad this new situation managed to make Lihua forget her sorrow it also motivated the matron to jump to her feet while pointing at my mother with sheer horror.

‘’But she’s dead!’’

Dear mother winked in turn and gave the matron a thumb up.

‘’Nope! Faked!’’

‘’Your hair!’’

‘’Alchemical mishap, I like it better that way anyway.’’

As Dorothea seemed overwhelmed enough to ruffle her hair and nearly break the collar of silk another voice perked up from the bed, this one belonging to the shirt haired magician who was grimacing in what I could only believe as incredulity.

‘’Why were you peeping then? It aint exactly polite…’’

That last sentence was spoken with a grumbling pout that forced me to bite down a laugh, Mana was quick to answer, smiling from ear to ear and boldly slapping me on the back, damn it woman!

‘’My son alone in a big room full of bed in the company of six gorgeous Yukionnas who’d undoubtedly need some heat isn’t something I ought to miss even if it mean disgrace! Say!’’

And then she immediately grabbed the rein of the conversation, waving her palm toward that little troupe of now overwhelmed witches.

‘’How about you girls sleep here for tonight! And tomorrow we ought to get you girls to some training too, I’m sure my son would be delighted of such gorgeous company, yes? Yeees?’’

She finished her speech while nudging me with her elbow like a lecherous crone, so overbearing everyone seem to have forgotten to ask how long she’s been watching which I was happy to keep hidden.

‘’Um huh…’’

Now that I know how to answer that, mother was quick to close the distance, pulling my arm and forcing me to bend at her level as she tiptoed upward to whisper in my ear…

«With them you have everything you need to blossom for your miracle, Siggy. They are true treasures, my son»

‘’Blossom for my…?’’

What a cryptic sentence… in my silence, expectations were raised while Dorothea threw her arms in the air in a sigh and simply let bygone be bygone (I think she’d make a good friend with Tsu.)

‘’Training?’’

I heard the tomboy.

‘’You…Mana and Siegfried Shieffer…?’’

I heard a scared Lihua squeak out, my own words were the truth but Mana – the only other person who saw Avina die- was well and truly alive.

‘’Awawa I’m not good with soldiers!’’

Caliente spook with distress « Little Princess» is truly a wonderful title for this one.

>Thus I have to ask myself this; with all the preparations needed for the incoming battle, should I focus on helping these girls blossom? It’d seem my mother is willing to help me for this endeavor. [Remember that pov switch can happen to resolve other things]

We still need to:
1. interrogate the werewolf
2. get the real story of the collapse of dwarven civilization from our magitek armor friend
3. when Daiyu and Athena get back
3a. build a prosthetic for Athena
3b. upgrade Emeth
3c. complete the alchemical gun
3d. find the other agents of Deruella
3e. train Athena in her new powers
3f. decide whether to tell Lihau the truth of Avina's soul (she asked to be used as Emeth's core)
4. train the yukionna
5. read Mylen's journal
6. further investigate the murder scene

Some of these we could delegate to others, and handle in a POV switch.

I have a feeling Lihua isn't going to take the whole "Avina is the core of a sentient golem" thing very well. Her last flagging hopes have already been dashed, in the best hopes of the commonwealth sadly. We would have lost that fort without the golem army, and meeting her "sister" may well be the final catalyst to give her full sentience and thus total control of the entire army, exponentially increasing the fighting capacity of the Zipangu army which will be needed if we have any hope of getting rid of that damnable bomb before Orion's final countermeasures cause it to detonate.

The only addictions I can guess at reliably are Siggy's soul, fighting a challenging life or death fight (oh boy does she LOVE that one, battle freak that she is), and now lewd due to corruption levels making her into a half-succubus.

Her own stubbornness influencing that last one. She would HATE to lay with any other man, but if that man is Siggy it's kind of OK. He even cried like a bitch after her torture, something she indirectly admitted was very happy about.

I can live with paying the prices mentioned, especially because she need only sup upon a small part of his slowly regenerating soul, thus won't cost us a soul blast unless she demands a true "feast" that will give her months of nightmare free sleep. Could still pay that price, but it would then enter into a cost/benefit argument.

Siggy wants to win this game, to spend any such vital resource is thus a big investment...

But Sieglinde has to make Athena's prosthetic, brief the Commonwealth leaders and our mage forces on the true nature of Blood Magic, upgrade Emeth and the golem army, complete the alchemical gun, and I also expect her to upgrade Leila's prosthetics as well.
On top of that, they need to find Deruella's sleeper agents, and they need to be available to tear that werewolf's mind apart for useful information.

Will there be enough time to get all of that done in the two days we have?

That's a very big MAYBE. We've already been told that prosthetics that could work with Monsters were still unavailable, and Garrett's notes could only help in developing the technology.
With Athena purged of Corruption, it might be easier, but her new status as semi-demigod might make the magical interfaces even harder than before.

Sieglinde is known as the world's foremost expert in alchemy and magitek engineering. She'd still be the one to provide most of the basic technology needed in this new prosthetic.

Will human prosthetics work with Athena now?
Is it because of the soul link, Corruption being purged from her, or because she's now no longer purely Monster?
>>
>>33415473

It's because of the soul merge, someone can still have working prosthesis when corrupted.
>>
>>33415527
>someone can still have working prosthesis when corrupted.
I remember you saying that one of the reasons that prosthetics weren't developed for Monsters was because of the Corruption problem.
I remember that this had come up when Athena had first lost her arm in the swamp and we were thinking of ways to replace it.
>>
>>33415603

Yes but the prothesis will still work if someone is corrupted while having it in the first place, it'll start malfunctioning after a few years.

Otherwise, you can't graft one on a monsters due to their inherent corruption since it ''interrupt'' the process of attachement.
>>
>>33415645
So a Monster still has to be completely purged of Corruption before a prosthetic can be attached.

Was Garrett's research going to allow a prosthetic to be attached regardless of the Monster having Corruption?

Will Ithel be able to attach a prosthetic to Athena now?
Or would Sieglinde be able to provide a better prosthetic?

Gareth was supposed to have largely solved that problem. He suffered "final death" before he could complete that research yet his notes remain.

He was also supposed to have left a journal for Kyorn to read. I do like that berserker E-Rank Luck bastard of an angel and elf. We will have a chance to read it sometime yes? As males are so rare, said journal should be lurking about. In some library he ought to have checked, discovered, and read in some form...

He's already read it and is stil lon the fence about Garret last wish... well mostly because he didn't have the opportunity to accomplish it until now.

Garret research was more toward alchemised medicine than prosthetic, those were only a side project.

So no, his research can't do that.

Ithel and Sieglinde could attach one to our lizard wife without much problem after some preliminary research that won't take too long.

Derp I meant "Garrett", the Alchemist of that untold chronicle involving that psyonic ghost that bought him the time and pain that prevented the end of the final seal on the evil mountain.

Dude did prove himself, if only he could channel such rage in absence of injury and personal hate. He's on the team trying to take out Orion. I really want to see what an unbound berserker is capable of!

And what was that last wish, pray tell?

How long is "won't take too long"?
Will we have to compromise one of the other goals in order to be able to do it?

No.

Well according to him, he fathered Rhy somehow. He even asked us to look after her. A difficult task but one we undertook nonetheless. Man was basically pic related. Yet another burden he must bear...

Hmm, might be time to give the males a bit more focus afore the battle... But, like Siggy, they are proactive with their own business.

They do deserve a kind of focus. Males, rare as they are, are deserving of such a focus. You did say that that there would be an opportunity for "male" bonding as it were. The prospect of a "bromance" should figure in here. The few "men left standing" need to see who all belongs to said group. Especially when things like "Alps" can pose a very convincing part...

Well as far as I can tell, Gil, Kyorn and Zechariah would be substantial in the battle to come and to keep the Commonwealth afloat, the only one we kind of know is our brother.
