“You are right about the shooting Cecilia. American firepower and British tradition would go a long way in combat. But since this is practice, I'd like to get a feel for different combat paradigms. So how about we focus on short range combat. It would really shore up a weakness both of us have.” you decide on.

“Well that is true. My Blue Tears is primarily focused on long range combat with Blue Pierce and the combat drones. I only have the Interceptor combat knife for when things gets bad.” Cecilia responds.

“How about I focus on getting and staying in close range while you try out snap shooting and disengaging to get range.” you answer, “That way you can figure out how to avoid close ranged combat and I can get a feel for for it.”

“Yes that is quite smart. Focus on something we are both weak at.” Cecilia says with more confidence, “I can see this relationship going far, both of us figuring out and covering each others weaknesses.”

Tactics is a key part of combat and can more than make up the difference between disparities between combatants. “Alright time to get this started.” you say to yourself. You activate the Maeve, no problems. You fly up towards the center of the stadium and wait for Cecilia. Barely a minute later, she flys up towards you in her Blue Tears ready.

“So I take it you will come at me and I will try and break away to return fire?” Cecilia asks over the comms.

“That's the basic idea. We'll do that for a bit before I try using a short ranged gun I recently had installed. That way you get a feel to dodging in melee before I start shooting.” you respond over the comms, “Remember to try snap shooting and combat moves that focus on distraction to give you distance.”

“I understand. I'll give you my best.” Cecilia answers with resolute face.

At the start you rush at her and much to both side's expectations it did not end well. You got hit in the straight on attack and had to break it off. The follow up attacks from mid to close range fair much better as the Maeve's maneuvering is much better than Blue Tears. But it seems like Cecilia's real weakness is snap shooting and trying to integrate different combat maneuvers at the same time. This weakness lets you get in close and get several hard hits with Caladbolg but not enough to make up the difference.

Half you through you stop to ask Cecilia, “How are you fairing?”

“I am fine. I still have the majority of my shields. How about you, you could have not been doing to well due to that opening attack.” Cecilia responds with a bit of concern in her voice.

“Yeah, took to many hits starting off. How about we switch it up now. I want to try out some of the new guns I had installed in the Maeve recently.” you reply.

“I see. It must be very useful to be able to easily switch out bus slots like that. Blue Tear's combat drones take up the majority of the bus slots leaving my limited on my options.” Cecilia responds.

The both of you take up match start positions and start practicing again. This time around you fair much better. Being able to not be forced to get within 4 meters to get a solid hit makes a massive difference. While this lets Cecilia get off more shots at you, you are able to easily dodge the lasers. Duel wielding the Razors is very useful for keeping Cecilia distracted while doing some damage. And any time she tried to disengage by using her missile attacks ends with you destroying the missile and force her to try shooting again. The drones do not fair well either, as they are forced to re-dock anytime they are damaged and not destroyed. If this was an actual duel the continued loss of the drones would be a large problem. The autoshotgun while not great for missile interception can easily pile on the hurt. Thankfully you remembered to get buck and slug ammo punishing Cecilia at close range with the buckshot shells and when she does get enough distance at medium range the slugs do enough damage to prevent any full on counterattack. The rocket launcher while good at medium range is too risky at close range making it bit troublesome to use. Gram does well in when you try and reengage going from medium to short range but the rate of fire isn't enough to be useful at close range making you switch out for a different weapon. By the time you get this far both of you are exhausted and tired.

“John would you mind if we stop now. My shield is about to reach zero and I am quite tired.” Cecilia asks obviously fatigued and slowly landing towards the center of the stadium.

“Yeah it is already late. Now would seem like a good time to stop.” you reply landing in the same place as Cecilia. Once Cecilia deactivates her IS she stumbles a bit and you catch her. “Guess you are more tired than you thought.” you say to her with concern, you didn't think she would get this tired. Guess she wasn't joking when she said she would give it her all.

“Don't worry about it. How about I take you to the Women's locker room and I'll escort you back to your room.” you say to her holding her up.

“You would do that for me?” she asks now with a bit more energy in her voice.

“Yes. Now come on, you are all sweaty and it would be bad if you got sick.” you say to her as the two of you walk together.

“I'll change in the locker room as I prefer to take a shower in my room.” Cecilia says reaching the door to the locker room.

“Alright. I'll be waiting for you.” you answer her. You head back to the Men's locker room. You change realizing you are bit more sweaty than you thought. But you did get to see Cecilia all sweaty in her IS uniform and she was so soft with a great body when you helped her. Man you really need to get this under control, can't let something embarrassing like the girls seeing that reaction happening. Once you finish changing, you wait for Cecilia to come out. A couple of minutes later she appears and she holds onto your arm stating that this is the proper way to escort a lady. The two of you walk arm in arm under a peaceful night sky. Eventually you reach her room.

“Good night Cecilia” you say to her in front of her door.

“Good night John.” Cecilia says tired but seemingly very happy.

The next two days pass by without any fuss and Sunday announces itself with that bloody alarm.

[]Get up and eat breakfast before Kendo practice

Not wanting to look bad on the first day of practice, you get up, get changed and head to breakfast. Seeing Houki there means she didn't get up much earlier than you did. So you grab a big breakfast with lots of bacon and join her.

“Hey Houki-chan, excited? I've never done Kendo so this will be all brand new to me.” you say as you take a seat across from her.

“Umu. I have a list of things we should work on. Since you are a beginner, we will start with the basics. And since you do not have the appropriate clothes, I asked the school to provide them for you.” Houki says obviously excited.

“Really? Thanks, completely forgot about needing the right clothes for it.” you respond in between your mouthful of eggs on toast and bacon.

“Of course I would get things prepared for you. You are new to this and we will be doing this every week so it is important to have a proper start.” she says proudly.

You just can't help but smile at her enthusiasm. Both of you quickly finish breakfast, and head to the athletics locker rooms to change. Thankfully there was a separate one for men and women but it really looks like they just changed the sign on one of the extra locker rooms they had. Heading into the Kendo room, you see Houki already prepared.

“Ah Smith-kun wanting to join the Kendo team? We have several spots open for you.” a girl says from across the room, must be a club member.

“I'm sorry but I don't. You can say I have private lessons with Houki-chan.” you respond while walking to Houki.

“Houki how about we start with a match? This would give me a good idea on the sort of things involved in a Kendo match” you answer her.

“You sure John-kun? You know I am good at this. I wouldn't want to hurt you since you don't know any of the common ways to defend yourself.” Houki responds with a bit of a worried tone.

“I'm sure. I made my decision and I don't go back on them.” you reply with confidence.

“I understand then. Just because we are roommates doesn't mean I will be going easy on you.” she says.

“I understand” you resolutely respond. And with that answer you get ready. Houki helps you into the kendo gear to protect yourself from the blows. You watch Houki get into her protective pads with not too much fuss. Must be her womanly assets again. Damnit stop thinking about that, you need to concentrate at the task at hand. Now that both of you are ready you take position and start with the first match. The first match is over in a couple of seconds as she disarms you in the first strike followed up by a quick strike to the chest. Not even a chance but you aren't going to back down, you made you decision and you will stick to it. The next set of matches goes mostly the same but at least you last a bit longer but not much longer. But that is simply due to Houki pointing out some apparently really basic stuff. She says your form is all over the place, your center of gravity is not properly balanced as it should be and your strikes rely too much on strength and speed rather than form and flow.

“Well being determined and not backing down is very important in Kendo, you cannot just jump in like this is any sort of normal fight. This is Kendo, not a brawl.” Houki responds.

You both get out of the protective gear and sit down with Houki going on about how Kendo requires a certain frame of mind. How determination and hard work will take you far. And how the motto of this Dojo is important. She goes on and on, you may not get everything she says but she seems really into it so you don't stop her. Seems like the matches you had with her went on longer than you thought as it is already lunch time.

“You know Houki-chan it's already lunch time. I could get something to eat.” you say when she took a pause in her lecture.

“Oh already? Yes lunch sounds good. We will continue after lunch.” Houki answers.

“Cool, let me just get up. I think my leg fell asleep.” you say slowly getting up. You see Houki walk over to give you a hand and you slowly get up but even that wasn't enough. As soon as you put weight onto your leg it buckles and you land with a crash onto something soft.

“Woops” you say out loud, noticing that what ever you landed onto smelled really nice even if there was a tinge of sweat and getting more than a handful of something quite nice to touch. Wait a minute, didn't you just land on Houki. You get up immediately just to see Houki blushing madly. “Ah sorry about that, guess my leg was really asleep.” you say quickly as you help her up.

“Well if your leg was asleep, it can't be helped.” she mumbles still blushing madly, “I guess since you aren't use to sitting like that either after our matches that would happen.”

“Yeah guess it was my own dumb fault.” you answer her with bit of a dumb grin. Both of you head to the cafeteria for lunch. Not really bothering to change since you were going to continue afterwards. Houki has something traditional broiled fish, rice, miso and some red bean thing. You just go for cheeseburgers, they don't have them often so it's bit of a treat.

“Sorry about that Houki. I am not really use to that way of sitting.” you say during the meal to break the silence.

“I should have know you were not use to it. Maybe I should have tried to be a bit more understanding that you are still new to this.” Houki mumbles still blushing a bit.

Eating lunch in more silence, you both head back to the Kendo room.

“Houki, I think it may be a good idea to focus on the the rules and what not at a different time and place. We don't want to tie up space if other people want to use it. So let's try those stances and strikes you were talking about.” you say to her as you both notice there are more girls around.

“I suppose you are right. I have a practice set that I think you would really learn well from.” Houki says now not really mumbling anymore.

Houki shows you the practice set and you both practice. Occasionally Houki points out where you are doing something wrong but is otherwise cheering up. Eventually you both stop as you have have been practicing for a good bit of time. You decide to take a shower in the Men's athletics lockers. Houki instead heads back to the dorm, guess she doesn't really like the Women's showers. By the time you change and get back to your dorm you are already tired. You hear Houki is in the shower, so you just crash into your bed. You look over a bit and notice something in pastel pink. Is that her bra? Well damn, you knew she is big and you got a big handful earlier but is her bra that big. Crap better not look that way, don't want to cause undue problems. Turning to face the wall you easily fall to sleep. Monday is pretty standard until towards the end of the day Ms Orimura tells you to go the a certain classroom after classes are done. Promptly following her instructions you head to that classroom. Entering it, you see a couple of other girls chatting about. You even notice Huang is here too. Eventually Ms Orimura and Ms Yamada enter the room so you take a seat.

“This is the Inter-class Tourney meeting. All of you here are participants for the tourney.” Ms Orimura says in a commanding voice.
