In a World of Darkness and Light, Monsters and Men, Dragons and Griffins, Witches and Mages, Heroes and Legends, Kingdoms and Empire's, there is much strife and war. Peace in all four corners of the world is a very rare thing of beauty. Kings and Emperors are fighting for power and land on both battlefields and at court. However, you're not part of this struggle for power, not yet. For reasons unknown you don't remember your life as a human nor the torture you went through to become what you are today; A twisted being of dark magic, your body has been mutilated and corrupted beyond its limits. However, like many dark beings before you, you've been chained by the power that rules behind the scenes of politics and war in this world; The Holy Church.

Created by darkness and leashed by the light, you're a monster under the Church's will. You are an Inquisitor, the last of its kind. Once a man, twisted by magic, you serve the Church as a hunter or a judge against monsters, witches, renegade mages and all the evil that oppose the holy order.

>>33428408

You awake in the damp cell with the first rays of morning light blinding you. Rising up, you look about; this is one of the cells down in the dungeons beneath the church you're currently staying at. You're the dog of the Holy Order after all, not one of its privileged servants. A dungeon cell was one of the better places to sleep for you. While you couldn't get sick from the cold dampness, it didn't mean you liked it.

Grabbing your sword from where it had rested on the wall all night, you notice a small parchment attached to its hilt. Apparently you knew how to read and write before becoming an Inquisitor, so reading this wasn't much trouble. The Head Priest of this church has ordered you to meet him at breakfast in his study on the second floor.

>A. Meet with the Head Priest to see what it is needed of you.
>B. Grab breakfast on the first floor before anything else. You need energy for the day ahead.
>C. Leave the Church and disregard the orders from the Head Priest.
>D. Check your inventory to make sure nothing is missing.

Decisions are made by vote. Each vote has a five to ten minute interval, after which, the option that receives the most votes is the one that is chosen.

There are no write-ins unless explicitly stated

Some options require rolls. In that event, rolls will be to 100 or less out of 3 rolls. One roll per player. The roll needed to succeed will be determined by the difficulty of the action that needs a roll and it will be stated before rolling.

All decisions are final.

While the Holy Order is strict in its teachings, it allows all sorts of homeless people to stay in their halls. More than once, one of them has built up the courage to sneak down to you and steal something from your bags.

You open the bags and check both them and your waist belt thoroughly. You still have your stiletto knife along with three bottles of the poison "Livatus" attached to your belt. Four silver coins and a black cray that you use to make runes on the ground or walls.

You still have everything. Satisfied with this knowledge, the journey up through the dungeon stairs and the first floor is a short one. The Priestesses sitting by the tables eating their breakfast freeze as you pass along the tables while the Templars and visiting Paladins follow your every move.

The stairs up are nothing to you and soon enough you find yourself outside the Head Priests study. After a light knock and the words "Enter", you're inside the study. The Head Priest is an old fellow in long brown robes and he's bald. He's eating bread and drinking wine from what you can tell of the smell.

"I see you took my request seriously.", the Head Priest raise his eyebrows at the sight of you. He had seen far worse things than an Inquisitor in his time as a templar before becoming a priest. You nod at him slowly.

"Good.", he remarks, taking a bite from his soft bread and a sip from his wine, "There has been sightings of aggressive bands of Orks by the Riverside at Oaksberry."

"Are they to be judged?", your dark metallic voice hiss through the mask at the Head priest, but he remains untouched by your inhumane tone. He contnues to eat in peace, leaving you without an answer until he's done with his breakfast.

"Yes, but not by you.", he finally answers shortly, putting down the empty cup from his lips, "The Templars will take care of them, but you will be joining them nonetheless."

You tilt your head, questioning the old man; Why is he beating around the bush with you? He clearly notice your questioning posture and without further ado, he rise from his seat and moves over to the nearby window overlooking the courtyeard in the middle of the Church grounds.

"A man by the name of Austec Oakheart has betrayed the trust of the Holy Order and stolen three scrolls from the Saint's Library in the Capital of the Empire.", he makes a dramatic pause, turning about to face you, "He was last seen by Oaksberry by the Town's scout. I trust that I do not have to remind you of what importance all scrolls within the Saint's Library are to the Holy Order."

"What scrolls did he steal?", the question is forboding and the answer might be forbidden, but just as a predator needs a trail, you need information and a motive; Is the thief willing to die to keep the scrolls from the church or not?

There is a silence between you while he studies every feature of your mask. "The contents of these scrolls are not of importance to you, Inquisitor. Your job is to judge the wicked and follow the Holy Order's guidance, nothing more and nothing less.", his tone is sharp and you realize the scrolls must be a touchy subject even for him, "You will leave with the Templar group after lunch. Now leave me.", he commands you, motioning towards the door behind you.

With a low bow, you turn about and leave the study behind. You make your way down the stairs to the first floor again and after a short and uneventful visit to the kitchen, you return to the hall and seat yourself at one of the empty tables.

There are still Priests and priestesses eating and the same Templars from before are watching you again with great caution. Grabbing your bread, you move it behind your mask from below and take a bite from it. Drinking is the hardest part, but you usually my the cup up from below and try to sip on it carefully as to not spill any of it; It's not often you get to drink wine.

From out of nowhere, a young man in a boiled leather suit sits down across from you at the table. He has a white cloak attached to the plated pieces on his shoulders. His dirty blond hair covers one of his eyes and his smile is beaming at you.

"Morning Inquisitor!", he almost shouts out, muchh to the dismay of some of the priestesses nearby who are trying to ignore your existence while eating.

Benjamin; A Paladin Squire, much too eager and very curious, even around danger. From the very day you arrived here two weeks ago, he's been speaking with you, either trying to get under your skin or learning more about you. In short, he's VERY fascinated by the allegedly last Inquisitor.

"How has your morning been, Inquisitor?", his smile never wavers as he awaits your honest answer.

You stare him down and utter, "Shit." dryly to him and even though he can't see past your mask, you guess that he gets the point when his smile dies down. "Why? What happened? I heard you were summoned by the Head priest."

Benjamin was born in a farm in th Hinterlands and was brought to this church after a traveling crusader discovered his touch with the Light. With no family nearby and not a lot of friends at the church, Benjamin made a friend out of the Head Priest of all people. Even though they might see things differently on many things, Benjamin is very devouted to his old friend.

While Benjamin starts to eat of his own breakfast while occasionally throwing a look towards you, waiting for an answer, you contemplate what or how much you should tell him.

"Woke up in the cold, was summoned by the Head Priest and had to listen to him ramble about Ork bands by Oaksberry."

At the mention of Ork bands, Benjamin lit up and puts down the cup he was drinking from, "Oaksberry?!", his voice is loud as always, but after noticing the stern look from a Templar by the corner behind you, he leans forward and start to whisper, "I'm going to Oaksberry. I've been assigned to accompany and observe a group of Templars while they take care of the Orks. I'm so excited.", his wide smile has returned, "Are you coming too? No, why would he send you and Templars for a band of Orks...?", He ponders the question for a short while until he slams his hands down onto the tabe, leaning even closer towards you.

"Unless it's not Ork bands!", he whispers quite loudly, his eyes are burning with excitement.

"I've been ordered to join the group of Templars heading to Oaksberry.", you confess, still leaving out your own mission just to keep Benjamin in the dark for now. Who knows how he'll react if he knew you were leaving the Church for now. You are, after all, one of his two 'friends' at this place. To you, he might be a nuisance, but to him, you're a friend.

"Alright, so the Head priest is sending a group of Templars, a Paladin Squire AND an Inquisitor to take care of Ork bands...", Benjamin summarize it, his curious stare is almost overwhelming you. This reminds you of the first time you arrived to the Church, but you quickly push those thoughts aside.

"It must be something he isn't telling us.", he finally concludes, looking for response to his conclusion.

"Why would the Head Priest lie to you?", feeding Benjamin's theories and supporting his stupid ideas are one of the few things you can wholeheartedly enjoy in this place.

"Hm", the squire falls back into his state of thinking, his gaze focusing on the cup before him instead of the Inquisitor. You can clearly see when he thinks he has discovered the truth because his eyes lit up again and he slams his hands into the table, "Orks lead by a Witch!", and he forgets to whisper again.

Before you can respond, someone comes up from behind and slaps Benjamin's head from behind. The woman is clad in a silver armour with a white fist in front of a black flame engraved on her plated chest piece.

"No, Squire; Assumptions get you killed. We're only hunting Orks. They're harmless and pathetic...", her gaze falls on you across the table, "...like most monsters are.", you can see the seething hatred in her eyes.

"Good Morning to you too.", you try to at least fake a welcoming voice, but everything you say always comes along with the dark metallic hiss to your voice. The armour clad woman stares you down, refusing to speak directly to you. It doesn't take long for Benjamin to feel the tension building up and from what you can hear and see, the rest of the room has also picked up on it; It's far too quiet and two of the Templars who wer previously looking at you, now have their hands on the hilt of their sheathed swords.

"So, you only think we're hunting Orks, Si-- Ma'am?", Benjamin stutters to catch her attention. Her stare is fixated on you, but after a coupe of seconds she breaks it and looks down at the Squire sitting in front of her.

"Yes, only Orks...", she looks up at you again, "...for no.", is the final thing she utters before marching out the hall. After a long moment of silence, the room starts to wake up again.

"When's the wedding? I hope I'm invited.", your question and comment gains you something rare from Benjamin; an irritated look. He's always the first one to laugh or smile and he's full of this positive energy that just brings you down. The moments where you're able to bring him down a notch are moments you cherish.

"She'd never go for a squire...", and now he's sulking in self pity. Whether you're enjoying yourself or not is of little importance, but Benjamin seems to be more depressed about this than how he usually gets.

"Comfort him.", you hear a voice whisper in the back of your head. The voice of your former human self that emerges whenever you feel a greater height of emotions at any time. Until then, he remains dormant, silent to you. "Help him."

"You're right, Inquisitor; I won't be a squire forever! I'll work hard to become a legendary Paladin!", he pumps his fist into the air victoriously.

You hear a whistle erupting by the exit and after looking for the source, you see a man dressed in brown robes with a plated chestpiece and plate shoulders along with the brown hood from the robes over his head. He's signaling Benjamin to come for his daily training.

You nod at him in silence and follow him out the Hall, leaving your empty cups at the table. Upon reaching the hooded man, you notice the thick dark beard of his and his distasteful look at you.

"I see you brought your dog along with you, Benjamin.", he comments, motioning towards you.

"The Inquisitor is no dog, Sire; He's a servant of the light.", benjamin defends you, but the hooded man can't help but chuckle at him.

"Servant of the light?", he starts to laugh harder. You're not sure if he's faking a laughter or if he's honestly entertained by Benjamin, "No, boy, he's a Dark being and you'd best stay clear of him.", and just like that the conversation is over when the hooded man turns about and leaves with Benjamin in tow. You follow them both.

He takes you to the courtyard that the Head priest's study overlooks. There are four paths ito the courtyard from different directions and they are all paved with white stones leading up to the center of the courtyard where it forms a circle around a fountain. At the far edge of it, you spot a priest and a priestess sitting together on a bench, reading a book together.

Disgusting.

On your side of the courtyard, the hooded man walks up to the bench nearby and pulls out two dull iron swords and throws one of them to Benjamin, whom catches it in the air with his left hand.

"Today we're utilizing everything you've trained over the past months in this session. This will be your evaluation and test to see if you're ready to join a mission outside the church.", the man explains before he attacks Benjamin.
>>
>>33434315

The young squire parries his instructor's thrust and continues to do so as he backs away from his aggressive opponent, step by step. After pushing Benjamin back to the stone bench nearby, the Instructor aims to strike at his student hard to make him fall over it, but instead Benjamin leaps up onto the bench and jumps down onto his instructor, sword at the ready.

His attack coupled with the force of coming down from above in high speed, breaks the dull iron sword in the instructors hands in two and pushes him to fall to his back.

You can't help but chuckle under your breath. Benjamin has been taught well; he even used the environment against his opponent.

"Excellent work, Squire.", the Instructor praise Benjamin before picking up the broken sword, "You're more than ready to join the mission by noon. May the Light be with you.", and after a short bow from both parties, you're left alone with Benjamin.

After remaining silent for a short while, it's decided that Benjamin will decide what you two shall do for the next hour. He sits down at the nearby bench, the same one he used against his instructor, and reassumes his thinking posture; Both elbows planted on his knees while his head is resting on his fists, staring at the fountain.

You, on the other hand, remain standing. You don't get tired from just standing and there's nothing worth noting around anymore. The pair sitting at the bench left the second the courtyard was filled with the clang from swords parring.

"I know!", Benjamin jumps up from the bench, "Let's go see the group of Templar's we'll be joining!"

>A. "No."

It has been decided that you will follow Benjamin to meet with the group of Templars that you will both accompany to the town of Oaksberry where they have been tasked to slay the aggressive bands of Orks spotted at the Riverside while you're there to gain information regarding the whereabouts of Austec Oakheart who has betrayed the Holy Order and stolen three scrolls from the Saint's Library for unknown reasons.

All this next time!

I'll stick around for any questions or banters before heading to bed. I'll continue tomorrow in either this thread or a new one at around 3 PM EST or 9 PM GMT.

It'll pick up pace eventually, but first I just want to introduce the characters around you that will play a part and get you into the role etc.
