You are Captain WILLIAM PIERCE, a combat rescue officer of the United States Air Force.

You wake up with the rays of the morning sun bathing your face in warmth. Blinking rapidly from the light, you yawn and slowly get up your bed, or at least, the Japanese version of one. You're not exactly sure why they preferred sleeping on the ground. You've done plenty of that in basic, and doing so gave you plenty of nightmares of survival training.

Still, last night was definitely worth it.

You look over to the "bed" next to you and see that it's empty. Apparently Janice had already woken up, and her bed was already perfectly done so that it looked as fresh as the moment they first entered the room. You also see her robe perfectly folded and sitting on top of the covers. No doubt she had changed back into uniform. Taking a cue, you pull your own uniform back on. You debate on whether to clean up your bed as well, and decide you might as well. It was the polite thing to do, and you didn't want to look bad next to Janice.

Back in uniform and you bag slung over your shoulder, you make your way over to the meal hall for breakfast. There doesn't appear to be anybody there, but a lone tray of food sits on one of the tables.

"That one's for you." Janice says walking up next to you, an apron wrapped around her uniform. "Everybody else has already finished."

"You just let me sleep in?" You blink.

"We all agreed that our hard working CO deserved some extra rest!" Janice smiled and pecked you on the cheek. "Better eat quickly. We'll be leaving soon. I'm going to help the owners clean up the kitchen. You can just leave the plates when you're finished!

Humming a little tune to herself, Janice saunters out through a back door. You can't help but shake your head and smile.

...

While the breakfast wasn't BAD, it was certainly, well, very different from what you were used to normally. Apparently the Japanese were fans of much lighter meals, and you left the hall somehow feeling more hungry than you did before. Hopefully you could find a decent Western breakfast in Tokyo.

Heading out, you can see your unit was already rather busy. Your aircrew was swarming all over the Ghost Hawk, performing preflight checks. Tarin seemed to be talking with Euclid, both girls toting bows. Red and Jetstream were sitting to the side, comparing their swords.

You head over to the Ghost Hawk, where your aircrew is busy poring over every inch of the Ghost Hawk to check for faults. Bullseye is in the cockpit testing the avionics while Snips and Hoskins are checking all the mechanical parts. Rex is in the cabin checking the mounted miniguns to make sure they were in working order.

Also, now that you were outside, you can get a better look of the sky, and while everything was nice and clear where you were, you notice dark, ominous clouds gathering to the north.

"Hey guys, how are things going?" You ask. "Any problems with the Ghost Hawk?"

"Nope. It looks like she weathered that battle fine!" Hoskins says happily. "No major faults besides the usual wear and tear. Nothing that can't wait until we get to Tokyo."

"Good to hear." You nod. "Bullseye, how's the weather looking?"

"Pretty stormy." Bullseye says, glancing at the distant clouds. "But I think if we leave now, we can beat it. We just can't dally around here too long."

"Understood." You say. "So how did things go last night?"

You aircrew all look at each other rather nervously.

"Guys, I'm pretty sure my sister in the States could hear that scream. What happened?" You sigh.

"It's a funny story, really..." Snips chuckles.

"Maybe Rex should tell it." Bullseye says.

"Rex?" You turn to the airman.

"Well," Rex shrugs. "Apparently Red and Euclid got turned around when moving around the hotel, and accidentally walked into the mens' bath without realizing. So, they see us all lounging around in the spring, and Euclid goes ballistic thinking that we're trying to peep on them."

"Weird." You frown.

"I know. Those Jap girls are all pretty weird." Bullseye frowns.

"Anyways," Rex continues. "she starts to storm out to go summon Jetstream, and she slips on a rock and starts to fall over."

"And that's when Rex when into Superman mode." Hoskins adds in.

Rex just ignored him an continued. "She would've cracked her head open on those rocks, so I went to catch her."

"You left out the part where you towel fell off during that whole thing." Bullseye snickered.

"That didn't seem like a relevant detail." Rex said dryly.

"Ok, I'll take it from here." Bullseye cackled, happy at not being the one picked on for once. "So Euclid screams and cries about how she's 'ruined for marriage' and how Rex had to 'take responsibility', and punched him in the face."

"Holy shit." You wince. "Are you okay?"

"Ah, it was nothing." Rex turned his cheek to you to show you a slight bruise. "My little sister hits harder than that."

"Nothing happened between me and Euclid, sir." Rex says flatly.

"Oh, I'm sure, but I get the feeling Euclid doesn't feel the same way." You chuckle. "You watch yourself, Airman."

"Jeez, Rex, what is with you and attracting younger girls?" Bullseye grins.

"Witches, too!" Hoskins chortles.

Rex just sighs and returns to checking the ammo belts.

Well, it looks like they'll be done with their check soon. There's not much time left to talk.

You head over to where Tarin and Euclid are, and you see Tarin has her compound bow with her. Apparently, Euclid seemed to be giving her pointers the finer bits of archery. You see some knives and Tarin's signature kukri sitting on a table nearby, and you assume Tarin was returning the favor with some knife lessons.

"Remember, you only put in as much power as you need, and you only draw when you're sure you're going to fire." You hear Euclid instruct. "Even with our enhanced strength, using a bow is incredibly draining with all the physical effort required."

"Got it." Tarin nods as she slowly draws her bow, exhales, and releases, planting an not exactly on, but very close to the center of the target in front of her."

"You two having fun?" You ask as you approach.

"Sir." Tarin nods respectfully at you. "Just trading some pointers."

"Tarin senpai is a truly fearsome warrior!" Euclid smiles. "She has taught me a great many valuable lessons, like where the heart is located, and how to bypass the ribs with a knife when you stab it!"

"Okay..." You blink, and then get right to business. "Anyways, Euclid, I heard that you ahd a run in with one of my men last night."

At this, Euclid's face suddenly goes a crimson shade of red and she literally bends into a perfect ninety degree angle as she bows to you.

"My apologies, Captain! I jumped to conclusions and struck a fellow comrade in arms!" She squeaked. "It will never happen again!"

"You talked to Jetstream about this already?"

"I'm not the person you should be apologizing to." You say as you cross your arms like a stern parent. "You will formally apologize to Airman Bishop for striking him."

"N-no! I couldn't possibly face him again after that!" Euclid shakes her head rapidly.

Geez, you're having trouble figuring out what was going on in this girl's mind. It didn't really help that she was the youngest witch in your ad hoc unit right now, even younger than Red.

"Are you scared of him?"

"No!" Euclid says adamantly.

"Then what's the problem?" You ask.

Well, it seemed like it was time to go.

"Tarin, Euclid, go get loaded up in your strikers." You say.

Both witches salute and quickly start packing up their gear. You head over to Red and Jetstream to give them the word. As you move forward, you see Janice exiting the hotel. She gives a quick bow to the two elderly owners, which they return as they wave her farewell.

"Such an energetic one." Jetstream chuckles as you both watch Red dash down to the Ghost Hawk. "Reminds me a bit of myself when I was younger."

"Hey, Jetstream, thanks for everything you did last night." You say, nodding to her respectfully. "It was something me and Janice really needed."

"Oh, it was nothing." Jetstream grins and pats you on the shoulder. "Did you two go all the way?"

"Please explain further." You say, maintaining your poker face.

"You know..." Jetstream makes a very suggestive gesture involving both of her hands.

"That is classified information." You say flatly, still maintaining your poker face.

"Ah well, it was worth a try." Jetstream chuckles. "But really, it was the least I could do. Having time together like this will become a rare luxury on the battlefield."

"Too true." You nod in agreement.

With that, your witches get loaded up in their strikers, with some help from your aircrew. You see Rex singlehandedly lift Euclid up and lower her into her strikers. All the while Euclid's face was red as a beet and she refused to make eye contact with him.

God, you were never going to understand girls.

"All right, get us moving, Bullseye." You say as you hop into the passenger compartment.

"Roger that." Your pilot nods and the Ghost Hawk starts to lift up. You see the elderly couple the ground waving as they see you off. You return the wave before the Ghost Hawk banks and pulls away.

"All right, Cap, we got one of two choices." Bullseye says. "We can put pedal to the metal and try to beat the storm, or we can take it slow to ease strain on the engine and see where it goes from there.

"Pedal to the metal, Bullseye." You say. "I'd rather we not get caught in bad weather."

"Roger that." Bullseye nods and hits the throttle. The engines roar and the helo's nose dips down as it picks up speed. You see your witches' strikers flare up as they increase power in order to keep up.

"So, Cap." Red says as she stares out the side door, looking at both the sea and the shoreline zip past. "You think we'll see any action in Tokyo?"

"Why do you ask that?" You turn to face her.

"Well, you know, we've been on the frontlines in Europe and all." Red says. "But lately all we've really been doing is mucking about behind the lines or on leave while guys and girls like us are fighting and dying out there. It... it doesn't feel quite right."

"Well kiddo, I can't say I don't know how you feel. That being said, think of it this way... The guy who sits in an office state side and spends all day typing on a computer working on logistics isn't doing any fighting either is he? But he's the most important man in the whole military, if he doesn't do his job nobody else can do theirs. It's sorta the same with us right now. We're training other units and acting as a test bed so that other PJ units can do their jobs more effectively, so while we may feel like we're just slacking off, we have our own important role that we're filling..... But damn if I don't won't to get back out on the line"

"Don't be in such a hurry to get back in the fight." You sigh, leaning back in your seat. "You might end up regretting it."

"But-"

"Look." You say, interrupting Red. "Once you step into the battlefield, there's not guarantee that you'll ever get out of it. My father and my grandparents, they've all known people who've been in the shit for YEARS at a time. Hell, my grandfather was a grunt in the Martian War, and he was gone for so long that my dad didn't even recognize him when he came home. Be glad you've had chances to take a breather. And this assuming you don't get killed, either."

"Right..." Red frowns.

You sort of wonder what was up with Red. She was a far cry from a shy, rather introverted girl you met last year. Now, she was brimming with self-confidence and bravado, and maybe a little of what you feel might be bloodlust. This war had certainly changed her, but you're not sure yet whether it's for better or worse.

You feel things are starting to get a bit too heavy here. It was time to change the subject.

"Anyways, what were you Jetstream up to this morning?" You say quickly to change the subject. "It seemed like you were comparing sword sizes."

"What's the matter, jealous?" Red smirked, catching on to your innuendo.

"Just curious." You shrug.

"Well, we were just taking a closer look at each others' swords. Jetstream seemed pretty interested in mine." Red smiled. "While it wasn't a 'genuine' katana, she was still pretty impressed with it. Just by looking, she could tell a lot of love and effort was put into forging it, so she considered as good as any Japanese blade."

"Yeah, well, that's Charlie for you. He always puts 110% into his projects." You nod. "What about Jetstream's sword?"

"Well, it's a family heirloom. Apparently her family has owned for centuries, and allegedly it was forged by Muramasa himself!" Red smiles as she starts creeping into fangirl mode.

"Muramasa?" You frown.

"Ah, a famous swordsmith from ancient Japan. It's said that he had the ability to make magical blades, though Jetstream says that's just a misconception since most of the blades he forged were for witches. Anyways, Jetstream's blade is one of the few Muramasa blades remaining, since most of them were destroyed for fear they were cursed, or something like that."

"So, IS Jetstream's sword magical?" You ask.

"Well, maybe?" Red shrugs. "He did SOMETHING with it, though, because whenever a which powers it up with magic, the blade turns blood red. It's really only a cosmetic effect, but nobody knows how Muramasa did it, and everybody who's tried to t replicated it failed."

"Interesting." You nod.

"Also, also," Red's eyes gleam. "She also promised to give me sword fighting lessons! Can I do it, please?"

"I don't see why not." You say. "Just remember, you're a lifesaver first and foremost, and a soldier second."

"Thanks, Cap!" Red lunges forward and hugs you. You can picture the rest of your aircrew smirking at the sight.

"Hey, it's all good." You chuckle.

"All right, it looks like we just might make it!" Bullseye grins. Up ahead, you can see Tokyo on the horizon, with the stormclouds still quite a ways away.

"How long?" You ask.

"We'll reach Yokohoma Naval Base in about half an hour." Bullseye replies.

"Bullseye, slow us down and drop altitude." You say, a knot forming in your stomach. "Something doesn't feel right."

"Gotcha." Bullseye slows down the Ghost Hawk and keys his radio. "Yokohoma Tower, this is Ghostrider. We're inbound from the south. You got anything on radar?"

"Picking up your transponder loud and clear, Ghostrider." The air traffic controller replies. "Besides your witches, we don't have anything else in our scopes, but that stormfront is causing a lot of interference."

"Got it. Thanks, Tower." Bullseye turns to you. "Doesn't look like there's anything."

"Anything they can detect." You clarify. "Tarin, you mind taking look in those clouds?"

"Roger." Tarin breaks off from the main group and gains altitude as she disappears into the clouds.

The minutes creep by agonizingly slow.

"See anything, Tarin?" You check in.

"Nothing. Just lots of vapor and rain." Tarin reports. "Can't hear much over this thunder, either. Wait-"

Suddenly there's a loud screeching sound that temporarily drowns out her voice.

"-coming!" You hear her scream. That makes your heart freeze. You've never heard Tarin raise her voice before, much less scream.

"INCOMING!" Her voice rings through you radio. "11 o' clock high!"

You glance up at the heading Tarin designated and your stomach drops when you see a shape emerge from the clouds. It was a very familiar fighter. You've seen it before.

Problem was you only saw the Vampire as a wreck. It was infinitely more terrifying when it was actually in the air, and it was headed straight for your formation.

"Everybody, concentrate fire on that bandit!" You yell. "Bullseye, get Yokohoma Tower back on the horn and tell there's a goddamn bandit in their airspace!"

Immediately, Janice, Jetstream and Euclid position themselves between the Vampire and you and open fire, tracers and arrows zipping through the air towards the approaching fighter. It launches two missiles before breaking off and shooting past your position like a bullet. Janice and Jetstream refocus their attention on shooting down the missiles while Euclid tries to draw a bead with her bow.

Meanwhile, you see Tarin burst out from the clouds. The Vampire pulls an impossibly tight high-G turn and you realize where it's headed. Separated from the main group, Tarin was a much more vulnerable target.

"Tarin, go invisible and hit the deck!" You warn.

Without hesitation, you see Tarin's image wink out of existence. The Vampire shoots past her last known position, obviously confused at what had happened. However, before it can do anything else, you see a pair of fighters come screaming in overhead. You see two sleek fighters with swept forward wings shoot forward, with almost as much as much speed as the Vampire, and launch a flurry of missiles at it.

The Vampire seems to notice the incoming attack, and you see flares and chaff explode from its back as it turns away and hits afterburners, diving back into the clouds. The missiles, no longer able to gain a positive lock, explode harmlessly in the air.

The two new fighters also fly in the clouds in pursuit.

"Tarin, are you all right?" You call out. "Report!"

"All green, sir." Tarin winks back into existence alongside the Ghost Hawk. She looks unhurt and unfazed, though her hair looks a bit frazzled and singed, no doubt from the Vampire's engine exhaust.

"So it is true..." Jetstream mutters.

"What is true?" You ask.

"Since the war, we've had a string of disappearances of aircraft, both military and civilian, coupled with sightings of a Vampire-type fighter. Those who claimed to have seen it nicknamed it the White Butterfly. Allegedly, it would try to penetrate our airspace and perform hit and run attacks on any air traffic it would come across. This is the first time I've seen it in person."

"Is it tough?" You ask.

"Those two fighters that were sent to chase it are part of the Royal Guard, Japan's last line of defense." Jetstream says grimly. "It must be a dire situation if they are the first to be called to battle it."

"Cap, we're getting a radio transmission on an open channel." Bullseye says. "You might want to hear it."

You key your radio and you can hear what disturbingly sounds like a little girl giggling.

"Dosvidaniya, Little Bird." The voice chuckles before cutting out.

A few seconds later, you see the two Japanese fighters that assisted you earlier burst back out from the clouds. Jetstream makes contact with them and they converse in rapid fire Japanese.

"They say that the White Butterfly managed to escape. They don't believe it will come back, but they will escort us to Yokohama Base as a precaution."

"Tell them thanks." You say.

The rest of the trip is fairly uneventful compared to that little skirmish. By the time you set down, the stormfront had already reached shore, and a steady stream of rain begins to pour. Your Ghost Hawk and witches are quickly ushered into a nearby hangar for shelter.

As you disembark, you see that the Comanche has already been transported here. You also Ugly going over it along with a team of Christina's techs. Meanwhile, you witches were being helped out of their strikers.

"Janice, make sure everybody gets dried off and something hot to eat." You say. "I need to report this to Colonel Kelsey."

"Of course." Janice nods, her face no longer carrying her normal warm expression. "Come back soon."

You nod and immediately wave down a passing humvee, whose driver is kind enough to give you a ride to Kelsey's command post.

"Captain Pierce, I see you've made it in one piece." The Colonel says as you enter his office. "You made a real good impression with the Japanese by helping them out in that air skirmish yesterday. Saved a lot of lives."

"I was just doing my job, sir." You say humbly.

"Of course you were." Kelsey nods. "Anyways, what can I do for you?"

"If you haven't heard already, my flight was jumped by a Vampire while we were inbound to the base."

"Really now." Kelsey raises an eyebrow. "Did you suffer any casualties?"

"No, sir." You shake your head. "But things could have gone very differently."

"Of course." Kelsey sighs.

>>33441015
"How come this is the first time I'm hearing about this White Butterfly?" You ask.

"Because honestly, we didn't think it existed." Kelsey sighed. "All we had were unsubstantiated eyewitness accounts."

"Do you ANYTHING about it, then?"

"Well, from what we've been able to gather, White Butterfly is most definitely a Vampire-type fighter, or at least sort of variant. It has an improved stealth profile over the one we've previously seen earlier in the war, and it only ever seems to attack during bad weather or other conditions that limit our radar coverage."

"Did you know that it's Russian and piloted by a little girl?"

"We've heard stories, yes." Kelsey nodded. "Of course it has to be Russian. The Chinese don't have nearly the technical knowledge, resources, or facilities to develop such a thing, or even manufacture a knockoff." Kelsey nodded. "Most likely it's a part of the remnants of Russia's Pacific forces that fled to China after Kamchatka was taken. The pilot being female, however, is something new. That opens a whole new can of worms."

"Such as?" You raise an eyebrow.

"The distinct possibility that the pilot is a witch." Kelsey says grimly. "So far, only the US has aircraft with integrated striker technology. If the Russians were able to make their own version..."

"...it would make the air war here much tougher."

"Yes, especially since most of our aces and high end craft have been transferred to Europe." Kelsey sighs. "Taking her out is going to be tough."

>>
>>33441338
"Well, I'm a PJ, not a fighter pilot." You sigh. "So I'll just leave that for the fighter jocks to figure out."

"Yes, it'll be their responsibility. Short of the White Butterfly flying directly over a SAM site, our best bet is to increase air patrols to discourage attacks. Fortunately, the Nimitz has just arrived, which significantly bolsters our air capability."

"Good to hear." You grin. "So what will you have us do in Tokyo?"

"A few things, actually." Kelsey digs through some papers. "Besides the obvious in assisting the Japanese in case of any attack on the city itself, there's also a few special projects I'd like you to work on."

Kelsey puts some folders in front of you.

"First up, Dr. Kelsey wants to talk to you about further developments for the Ghost Hawk and Comanche. She's actually teleconferencing from Britain, so scheduling might be difficult."

Kelsey then taps another folder.

"I also have a request from our German friends. Looks like their class is a bit larger than they had anticipated so they're hoping you can help them out with training. Your witches may not be tank witches, but they're experienced and might be able to teach them a thing or two."

"And the third?" You nod to the last folder.

"Black ops." Kelsey says simply. "I can't tell you unless you choose it."

Well, thanks for playing along, anon. I had my fun pretending to be retarded, but I think we can all agree there is more than 1 person voting multiple times on both sides.

But yeah that device thing is worrisome, I kind of regret telling everyone about it now. Not that it really matters, samefags will just vote with one device and just ignore all accusations anyway.

"Well, you know me, I just can't resist a good black ops mission." You say.

"Ah, I thought you'd choose that one." Kelsey slides it forward towards you. "What you're about to see is highly classified information. None of this leaves this room. Is that clear?"

"Crystal." You nod and tear the seal off the folder.

The first thing you see is a map of Korea. The Northern half is colored red to signify enemy territory, while the Southern half is blue to indicate friendly territory. You see markers all over indicating unit positions and the like, as well. However, what catches your attention is the sprawl of blue arrows originating from blue formations on the sea, which you assume are the allied navies. They converge on two primary points, one on the east coast of Korea and the other on the west coast.

"Sir... what am I looking at here?" You ask.

"That, Captain, is what we're hoping will be the decisive end to the Korean stalemate." Kelsey says. "Operation Blue Dragon."

>And that's all for tonight! We should be back to our regularly scheduled Sunday, but we'll see! Anyways, Gundam Build Fighters will be running on Friday and Cyberpunk Idols and Saturday! Don't miss them!
