You are Melarracal, Mel for short. You are a recruit of the Renais army who shows great promise. You’ve been part of Prince Ephraim’s southern march against Grado forces. After taking a seemingly valuable fort and the supplies within, you were assigned to a squad.
Current Stats:
Class: Recruit
Level: 3
Weapon Level: Lance D
---

When we arrive at the town, we are greeted by our allies who celebrate our return, as well as the townsfolk who are overjoyed to be free from the bandits’ tyranny.

“Feels good to have people cheering for us,” Kellen says, basking in the praise.

“I suppose,” I agree, “I’m just glad we could help.”

“I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t wait to sleep in a warm bed!” Chris laughs.

Hearthsted simply grunts, “Keep waiting kid. There’s not enough room in the town for us all, so we are camping outside the town.”

“What?” Practically the entire squad groans in unison over the news.

“Be glad that you’ll be able to have a nice meal in town.” Hearthsted , ever at attention, takes a few steps to the town before turning to us. “You are free to roam around the area. I want to see you all before you turn in for the night though. Dismissed!”

We all quickly salute, and disperse. The sun looks like it’s going to set in a couple hours, so I have plenty of time to relax. I wonder how I should spend it?

[] Spend time in the tavern

Hey OP, I'm a little fuzzy on who our squadmates are. Can we get a pastebin with short descriptions of who everyone is and what class they are at some point?
>>
I decide that I’m going to spend some time in the local tavern. Best way to meet new people, not to mention forget about the long marches. I’m not the only one who had that idea, a good chunk of soldiers are there too. It’s a simple bar, with nothing outrageous as far as décor or drinks, but it’s nice.

There aren’t that many women in here, so I get more looks than I’m comfortable with. I take a seat at the bar next to a woman with brilliant blonde hair and dazzling red armor. Judging by the design of the armor, she’s a Pegasus knight! Is she a Frelian scout? She’s drinking some kind of cloudy green liquid.

She notices me looking at the drink and says, “It’s the house special. No clue what’s in it, I just know it’s strong.” Her voice is calm, composed, and confident.

“Can I take your order ma’am?” The bartender asks, surprising me.

“I’ll have what she’s having.” The bartender raises a skeptical eye, but nods his head. He turns back on you and begins fixing the drink. “Aren’t you supposed to prepare that for me to see?”

“House secret,” he says over his shoulder.

The woman next to me takes a long draft from her glass. “Whoo! That is good!”

The bartender turns around and sets the glass in front of me, and it appears to be steaming. “Wait until the steam lets up and it’ll be good to go. Oh, and don’t sip it. Tastes like ass if you do.”

I wonder if it’s really a good idea to drink this mystery drink…

While I wait, I suppose I should make conversation with someone…

While my drink, uh, cools, I turn to the blonde and ask, “So, what brings you here?”

“Just looking for work, Figured a war would be a good place to look.” Another long draft, nearly finishing the glass. “Was gonna clear out the bandits myself, but your people beat me to it.”

“Uh, sorry?”

“Don’t worry about it kid. I’ll just have to be quicker next time.”

“So, your armor, are you a Pegasus knight?”

She smiles slightly, “Yeah, and the best one you’ll ever see! I was trained by Frelia’s finest before I left and started mercenary work.”

“So, you don’t know what’s going on in Frelia then?”

“Sorry. Haven’t been back since I left.”

My drink has, cooled, and I tentatively take a sip. And nearly spit it out. “Ugh! That was nasty!” I have no idea what it tastes like, it’s just horrible!

“He did warn you about sipping it.” She says before downing the rest of hers.

Mustering my courage, I take a larger sip. Tastes almost like kiwis and pineapples. Such a strange combination, but it works. “That is good!” I could barely taste the alcohol though.

The woman chuckles, “Told you. Barkeep, another round for me!” The bartender nods and begins working on another. “So, what’s your name kid?”

“Melarracal.”

“Christine, nice to meet you kiddo.”

“Nice to meet you too.” The two of you shake hands.

While you take another drink, she asks, “So, how high up on the food chain are you?”

“The bottom.”

“Damn. I was thinking of joining you, for a price of course. But at a premium rate. Grado’s the one who started it after all.”

“You’d do that?”

“Yeah! It can’t hurt to have some eyes in the sky.” I quickly finish my drink and pay. “Come on, I’ll take you to meet him!” I practically drag her out of the tavern and to camp.

It doesn’t take long for us to find the Sergeant. “Melarracal, what is the hurry?”

“This is Christine, she’s a mercenary that wants to join us!”

“Hmmm, Come with me Christine, we’ll need to talk to the Generals. Melarracal, wait here.”

Oh, they’re coming back!

“Ah, Melarracal, sorry to make you wait so long. Negotiations took longer than expected, but say hello to your new squad mate.” The Sergeant doesn’t really show any emotion in his voice, but that probably comes with his job.

“I’m going to get Tabitha and then I’ll be right back,” Christine says pleasantly.

“Tabitha?” I ask.

“My Pegasus! Okay, I’ll be back!” With that she runs off back to town.

The Sergeant places a hand on my shoulder and praises me, “You did good bringing her back. We can send her out on scouting missions and get information back even faster now.”

“That’s what I was thinking!”

“I think I’m going to try and get the group together, introduce them to Christine.”

“Good idea,” the sergeant agrees. “Now get to it.” He goes off to do whatever it is he does in his free time.

I decide to check the training field, that’s where Gareth would most likely be. And sure enough, he’s out there running through basic drills. “Hey, Gareth! We have a new member to our squad!” I call out over his grunts.

“Oh? Where is he?” He doesn’t break from his routine.

“SHE is out getting her Pegasus.”

“A Pegasus knight? That’s new.” Still no real reaction. “Let me know when she’s back in camp, will you?”

“Sure! Do you mind if I send the others out here to wait?”

“No problem, might even get Kellen to spar with me while we’re here.”

“Speaking of Kellen, any idea where he might be?”

Okay, if Kellen is with his horse, he is likely still in camp.

“Hi there Kellen,” I say as I walk over.

“Hey, don’t get too close, she’s still getting used to me and I don’t want you scaring her off.” Well, that’s just rude. “So, what do you want?”

“We’ve got a Pegasus knight joining us.”

“Sounds good. I take it you’re rounding us up?”

“Exactly that. Go to the training field when you’re done.”

“You know, I technically outrank you. But, I’ll let it slide.” He stands up with a smile. “Alright, anything else?”

I think for a minute, “Do you know where Chris is?”

“I saw him in town a little while ago. He was looking for a ring for some reason.”

“Okay, thanks.”

There is only one shop in town that sells accessories, but it’s a bit of a chore to find seeing as it doesn’t have a sign. Still, I get lucky and find Chris inside looking at the rings, more specifically, wedding rings. “Hey Chris.”

He jumps and spins around to face you, looking as pale as a ghost. “M-Mel? What are you doing here?” He stammers and looks around, but relaxes when he sees you alone.

“Come on, I won’t tell Kellen you got him a ring!”

A look of confusion and disgust makes its way to his face. “It’s not for him!”

“Oh, then is it for the sarge?”

“NO!”

“Okay, okay, Well, when you’re done, everyone is meeting up in the training field. We have a new member too!”

“Oh really? Well, I’ll be there in a bit.”

“Okay, See you in a bit.”

On my way back to camp, I run into Forde. “Oh, hi Mel. How have you been?”

EQ, how do you plan to handle the Support system as part of your quest?
>>
>>33458894
I plan to handle it similar to Awakenings support system. Meaning, you can get to A rank with a lot of people, but only one person can become S rank. Supports will also determine their loyalty to you, meaning that if they are nearby when you would take a nasty hit, they may take it for you.

Spend time with people to raise their support with you. Fighting alongside them works too.

And I suppose this goes without saying, but I'm going to start updating again soon. Thanks for keeping this thread alive for me!

“You really look up to Lord Ephraim, don’t you?”

“Of course, he’s a brilliant fighter, tactician, and friend.” Forde nods to himself as he talks. “You may not realize it, but he cares about every one of his comrades and does his best to get everyone out alive.”

“When I first talked to him, it was so surprising and scary. I had been training with some of the other recruits, and he came up and congratulated me on my hard work!” I find myself smiling as I recall his words. “He even gave me some tips on how to use my size to my advantage!” Being a little smaller than most of the other soldiers, I tend to be harder to hit.

“He has an eye for talent all right.” He says warmly. “He can’t really afford to now, but when he goes out on patrol, he usually takes time to get to know the ones he takes with him. Helps him connect with the people and learn about their troubles.” Forde snaps his fingers and quickly says, “Oh, speaking of trouble, having any with your new squad?”

“Nope, not at all! We have a new recur-“ Oh no! I completely forgot that we were supposed to meet at the training field! “I’m so sorry Forde, I have to run! I made plans with my squad and I think I’m late!”

“Well what are you doing here then? Get going!” He urges me onward with a smile.

I wave to him over my shoulder as I sprint to the field.

When I get there, I’m the last one and everyone is smirking at me.

“Well, well, well,” Kellen says, “The little lady finally decides to join us.”

“We’ve already introduced ourselves while we waited for you,” Gareth kindly informs me. “We also agreed that since you made us wait, you get a choice of your punishment.” He’s wearing a wry smile.

“P-punishment?” I ask hesitantly.

“That’s right,” Chris chimes in enthusiastically, “You can either, buy us all dinner in town, or you can fight Gareth in a duel.”

“He’s already beaten me more times than I can count.” Kellen says dejectedly.

“Thirteen times. But I haven’t sparred against you yet, and I’ve been wondering how you’d do.” Gareth is watching me with extreme anticipation.

“Well,” Christine says, “I could use dinner AND a show.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll hold back.” He says cockily.

“Don’t. It would be insulting.”

His armor is by far heavier than mine, so I should be able to maneuver around him no problem. Hopefully…

Gareth stands his ground and waits for me to make the first move.

I slowly advance, watching for any signs that he’ll move. But he just stands there in a defensive stance.

I try to rush around him and attack from behind, but he’s turning to face me keeping me from getting all the way around him.

Still, I try to attack from the side with a thrust to his arm, which he dodges by jumping backwards.

That surprises me quite a bit, I’m not used to seeing someone move like that in armor.

The thrust connects before I have time to even react and I feel something in me crack. I’m also knocked off of my feet and onto my back. I scream in pain as I hit the ground. He knocked the air out of me too, and I can feel my head spinning from it hitting the ground.

I feel like there’s a burning right where the lance’s tip connected. I try to sit up, but moving makes my chest feel like it will burst.

Gareth stands up and holds a hand out to me with a smile. “You okay down there?”

Finding it hard to breath, I shake my head.

“Do you need a healer?”

“Not sure,” I rasp.

Christine kneels down beside me and removes my breastplate. Without a word she starts pressing down on my chest, causing me to hiss in pain. I’ve never hurt this bad before! “Kellen, go fetch a healer, her sternum was cracked from that last attack.”

“Alright, just stay there!”

“Mel, you need to stay as still as possible, okay?”

“Alright.” The adrenaline is leaving and the pain is really starting to catch up to me now. I start gasping and I feel tears welling up.

“I am so sorry Melarracal!” Gareth is kneeling next to me now too. “It was just a reflex!”

After just a couple moments a healer is present and he lays his staff over my chest. A warm light is emitted from it and I can feel something, probably my sternum, move inside of me. Once the light fades I feel a sense of peace wash over me, but the pain is still there.

“It still hurts,” I complain.

“You are experiencing something we call, ‘Phantom Pains’. This usually occurs for the first few times a person has a staff used to heal them. It will pass within a couple hours.” The healer places a hand on my shoulder reassuringly as Gareth and Kellen both help me up. “Still, we like to keep our patients under observation. Please, spend tonight in the med-tent.”

I simply nod and let him lead me to the tent.
