You are Akari Takamichi, a level 3 Pyrokineticist living with your older sister in Academy City. The date is July 16- the day of the System Scan, where espers all over the city have their abilities tested, rated, categorized, and assigned a Level from 0 to 5.

Furthermore, these are the closing days of your final year of elementary school, as well as the last couple of days of your mandatory four-month training period for Judgment. Your middle-school entrance exams are in two days, but you're not particularly worried or anything- you're not really considering applying to Tokiwadai or anything like that. No, you're perfectly happy living with Nee-chan, and you're a better student than most (probably out of sheer spite more than anything else- people usually assume you're some sort of hotheaded idiot when they hear you're a Pyro, and, well, you're not).

Still, besides Nee-chan being a bit nerdier than usual and that time last week when you walked in her room and saw her wearing your panties on her head, everything's been pretty normal. Assuming one could ever consider the wondrous utopia that is Academy City- the tiny, self-contained country located in Western Tokyo and populated by 2.3 million people (eighty percent of whom are students)- to be normal in any way, that is.

You haul yourself out of bed and throw an itsy-bitsy fireball at your alarm clock- it explodes with a pleasant WHOOMPH, releasing a puff of smoke and knocking the accursed timepiece off of your bedside table and onto the floor. The impact knocks the batteries out, thus preventing that incredibly annoying alarm from being blasted into your ears.

You remove your flame-print footie-pajamas and don your sailor uniform, then, after running your fingers through your actually-red, NOT-orange hair, you exit your room.

Nee-chan, being the lazy bum she is, is still asleep. You can hear her irksomely-cute snoring through her closed door.
>>
You should probably wake her up... but it's still pretty early. Maybe you should let her sleep a few more minutes?

Ugh, it wasn't nearly this difficult when you and Nee-chan lived with mom and dad.
Of course, nothing in your parents' house is fireproof, and your parents are even weirder than Nee-chan is, so it's probably more than a fair trade.

Still, this may well be the most difficult decision of your young life!
What do you do?
>Pound on the door, threaten to set her comic books (or whatever those things are) on fire.
>Breach the door, secure the Nee-chan, free any hostages, defuse any bombs, and perform the rites of awakening.
>Make breakfast- the scent of bacon and eggs will rouse the sleeping Nee-chan!
>Make breakfast, proceed to deliver the legendary 'breakfast in bed'. You are the best imouto.

There's no reason to let her become even more of a bum, you decide, and, though breakfast in bed would really knock her socks off, she'd probably get all weird and clingy about it.

So, you take a deep breath, gripping the handle to her bedroom door tightly, and count down.

“Three... two... one... BREACHING!”

Just like you trained, you throw open the door! You dive through as the handle hits the wall with a remarkably loud BANG, making sure to perform an unnecessary (but very cool and stylish) combat roll into the room.

You finish the roll and come up into a ready crouch, body tensed to react to the first sign of danger. A quick glance around the room reveals piles of those weird comics and games Nee-chan likes so much, as well as a rather lewd screen-saver on her desktop computer.

No hostages, though, and nothing that looks too bomb-like.

Is that a body-sized pillow with an image of you on it?

Well, it's not like this isn't something you'd expect from her.

You stomp over to her bed, where she's mumbling something about 'they're in the trees' or some other such nonsense. You take hold of her sheets and unceremoniously yank them off- pulling Nee-chan herself off of the bed as well.

She lets out a yelp as she hits the floor, then opens one eye, peers at you for a moment or two, and mutters, “Five more minutes.”

You sigh, set her alarm clock to go off in four minutes, and leave her room to prepare some breakfast.

What do you make?
>Bacon and eggs. Nice and hearty.
>Jam/Jelly/Peanut Butter on toast. You like to run to school and pretend to be in a hurry- it really messes with the other students, seeing a studious lass such as yourself acting late.
>Pancakes. You probably have batter or something, right?
>Salad. Because Nee-chan really needs to eat her greens.

After seeing Nee-chan's admittedly rather creepy pillow, you need to blow off some steam!

And what better way is there to blow off steam than to blow it onto others?

That said, you spread some [Jam/Jelly/Peanut Butter] onto some bread. When you realize you forgot to toast it, you do so with your psychic powers!

Practice makes perfect, after all, and today's the System Scan (did you already have that thought? Oh well).

You scribble 'waffle iron' onto the shopping list on the fridge as you DEVOUR one of your pieces of toast- you're a growing girl, after all, and you'll need the other one to put in your mouth when you run to school.

That being said, the only thing to do now is to double-check that you've done all your homework.
You grab your book-bag and skim over your assignments- you cringe a little as you realize that you messed up one of your physics problems, but it's an easy fix.

With that done, you quickly confirm that Nee-chan is, in fact, rousing herself (albeit in her own, lazy, half-asleep way), then dash out the door!

You were always in pretty good shape, and Judgment training has only improved what Nee-chan would call your 'physical attributes' to the point where they're pretty dang snazzy.

You relish the panicked looks on the faces of your classmates as you make your mad dash to school, and you're in your seat- the second seat from the back in the leftmost line of desks, so you can look blankly out the window if you need to- and ready to have your abilities tested!

The System Scan goes over a general examination of common esper abilities- none of which you, as a Pyrokineticist, necessarily possess.

After the general tests (which you score poorly on, naturally), come the specialized tests. Your testing takes place in the research labs that form the other, inverted 'L' of the box-shaped campus that your school occupies.

Dude what are you doing? That's not how the system scan works. There's no such thing as 'generalized esper abilities' or the general tests for them. There would be a set of tests picked out for pyrokinetics as a group that she'd do and then maybe something that one of the researchers put as a note to have her specifically do next time.
>>
>>33451348
Shhhhhhhh. Raildex canon stop.
>>
>>33451348
I'm pretty sure that's exactly how the system scan works. At one point we see the score sheet for one and it has a list of generic abilities like telekinesis, telepathy, etc on it.
>>
>>33451348
>>33451399

I'd assume that the first test you ever take will probably be 'general' test. But if you've already been defined as a Level 3 Pyrokineticist, they're not going to bother making you do worthless tests.
>>
>>33451432
They make the level zeros take worthless tests, even though they're all pretty much locked in as zeros.

They never know when somebody will go full Gunha and just start developing random abilities.
>>
>>33451432
I think they do both, the low level stuff to gauge the generic ESP attributes, and then the specific tests for the student's actual power.
>>
The tests involve shooting fire at targets, setting fire to things, throwing concussive fireballs, setting yourself on fire, and pinpointing the location of various heat sources whilst cut off from any external stimuli.

The tests show that you're still a Level 3, which comes as no surprise. However, the head researcher, a kinda weird dude named Steve, insists that you're closing in on Level 4!

Furthermore, he seems to believe that you have the potential to make it to Level 5!

You can't even imagine what purpose a Level 5 Pyrokineticist would serve. Besides BURNING EVERYTHING, anyways. Sure, Nee-chan seems to be convinced that you'll be “BURNINATING” Skill-Out thugs left and right with Judgment, but she gets weird about that kind of thing all the time, so you tend to take those kinds of statements with a grain of salt.

… Now that you're thinking about it, Nee-chan's a Level 4, but you've no idea what her ability is. That seems pretty strange to you.

“As of now,” Steve says as the two of you walk back towards the main entrance, “You can shoot continuous jets of flame up to around fifteen meters, throw fireballs out to thirty meters- but your accuracy seems to wane a bit past twenty-five or so- and the only limit on your spontaneous ignition capability seems to be a combination of surface area and the properties of the material itself. As it is, you seem to be able to heat an area a half-meter by a half-meter.”

He smiles and pats you on the head. “Your range for sensing heat sources seems to be dependent on how hot the heat source in question is- you can probably sense most fires from a hundred meters away, and something like a burning building from several times farther.”

You nod, pleased with your results. You're pretty freakin' cool.

But there's something you've gotta know.

Looks like you've never read the LNs. Because they do know that. They can tell beforehand what everyone's max level is and how much resources need to be sunk into them to make them reach it.

The vast majority of level 0s are only level 0s because they're "not worth it".

You question Steve's tastes in fashion first and foremost, but questioning his choice in project names is both far more on-topic and not rude!

“So, uh,” You're feeling pretty awkward, and you hold your hands together behind your back and do that thing where you half-kick half-scuff your foot on the floor, “What's this 'Sol Aeternam' thing all about, anyways?”

Steve, much like a kid in a candy store (or a researcher asked just what it is that he actually researches- surprise, surprise), lights up. Even the kitty on his shirt seems to brighten.

Actually, the kitty on his shirt LITERALLY looks more pleased with the situation.

Must be something to do with his ability, you guess.

“Are you familiar with the concept of Entropy?”

You nod. “Energy tends to become unusable and stuff.” You realize you're not much of an orator at this point.

“Basically, yeah.” He produces a chart from a pocket in his lab coat and begins citing several sources on Pyrokinesis and its applications, as well as its inner workings and the finer points of blah blah blah.

“The short of it is, the more powerful a Pyrokineticist becomes, the more and more they surpass entropy. If we can learn how Pyrokinesis actually, really works at its highest level, we could well learn how to do things like, say, replenishing the sun!”

Whoa. That's pretty crazy. Is that even how that stuff works?

Well, you suppose there's a reason he's a head researcher and you're an elementary school student.

“And that's what 'Sol Aeternam' really means! Eternal sun!”

He isn't even out of breath. A glance at the clock on the wall tells you that his spiel was well over ten minutes long.

“And... you're telling me this because you think I can do it? You think I can reach Level 5?”

He grins. “Mikoto Misaka- Tokiwadai's 'Railgun', the third-ranked Level 5 in Academy City- started out as a Level 1! You started at Level 2! All you've gotta do is want it!”

The cat on his shirt has a mischievous expression on its smug mug.

He leads you down a pristine white hallway, to a huge room full of people and computers and white-boards.

“Here's the deal, Takamichi-san.” He dramatically spreads his arms, indicating everyone in the room.

“If you reach Level 5, everyone in this room- including me- will treat you to ice cream.”

No way.

That's, literally a ridiculous amount of ice cream.

He chuckles.

“Twice.”

You feel weak in the knees.

Compost doesn't go anywhere, it just keeps piling up and up, and makes sub-par fertilizer unless you devote more attention to it than is possible necessary.

Branches and wood don't compost. Neither do planks or logs or whatever.

The first thing that pops into your mind- and, subsequently, out of your mouth- is a basic maneuver (it's elementary, really). You nod vigorously and exclaim, “Deal! No takesies-backsies!”

The second thing to bubble up and fill your young brain is DETERMINATION.

You're gonna be Level 5 before anybody knows what's hit them! THERE'S ICE CREAM ON THE LINE; THIS IS SERIOUS BUSINESS.

He seems taken aback by your double-whammy of heart-problem-inducing cuteness and FACE-MELTING DETERMINATION, but only for a moment or two.

“Ah, I knew that'd get you all fired up.”

But you don't hear that last bit, because YOU'RE ALREADY GONE.

YOU'VE GOTTA TRAIN.

You hum every song from every Rocky movie ever as you sprint, full-tilt, to the obstacle course at the nearby high school, eager to blow through Judgment training like nobody's business.

You've got tiger eyes and stuff!

Y'know, metaphorically.

Also, you may or may not be on fire.

How do you approach the Anti-Skill 'sponsored' training course?

The instructor, a kinda-scary but also attractive Anti-Skill officer-person-thing, seems to see your determination (or, again, the fact that you're literally on fire), and she acknowledges you with a nod, gesturing towards the obstacle course lazily, as if saying 'Show me what you've got, Akari-chan.'

So you do.

And, boy, do you have a LOT.

The first obstacle, a series of tires lying on the ground, is hardly an obstacle at all. You blow through that like a two-gauge shotgun blows through tissue paper. You climb the rock wall by superheating your hands and plunging them into the wall itself, and you manage to bypass the swingy-rope-thingie by jumping from atop the rock wall and throwing a fireball at your feet, using the detonation to throw yourself entirely over the muddy-barbed-wire thing you're supposed to crawl under in the process.

After blowing yourself up, running fifteen laps around the track feels like nothing.

The Anti-Skill lady's jaw seems to have dropped at some point, but she quickly closes her mouth as you run over to her.

“Other than the fact that you kinda cheated there, that was amazing.”

You inquire as to your time, and she shrugs and explains why that isn't all that important.

Her exact words were, “You melted the stop-watch, Takamichi.”

It occurs to you that you may have overdone it a little.

Or a lot.

Actually, looking back at the field, you really did a number on it.

You need to work on your control, it seems. Apparently you melt stuff when you get excited.

Who knew?

What do you do?

You bend at the waist. “Sorry, Goto-sensei,” you say, and she shrugs.

“Today was the last day we were gonna use these, anyways,” she says dismissively, “and you got here late, so everyone else has already run the course.” She frowns a bit and adds, “but it'd probably put me at ease if you could try to be a little less eager to blow yourself up next time, alright? Especially with the recent bombings.”

“Right!” Wait, bombings? You hadn't heard anything about that.

With that done, you begin putting out the little fires you've set all over the place. It's an odd feeling, but it's not too difficult to do once you've gotten used to it.

As an afterthought, you briefly heat the parts of the rock-climbing wall you had shoved your hands through- just enough to let that weird rubbery material it's made of flow down and seal off the holes you made.

Satisfied that you've done a reasonable job of cleaning up after yourself, you bid Goto-sensei farewell and make for home.

The walk home is uneventful, other than that crazy guy you saw riding on top of a bus and waving a mop about like it was some sort of banner.

However, when you open the door to Nee-chan's apartment, your eyes widen in horror.

Nee-chan is lounging atop a throne of magazines, with a pair of underwear that are definitely yours on her head.

You approach the throne- and the young woman perched atop it, engrossed in her bizarre comic book as she is- the carpeted floor muting the sounds of your footfalls.

You circle around to one side and kiss Nee-chan on the cheek. “Nee-chan, if you need new underwear, you should buy some in your own size.”

Nee-chan, for her part, stiffens at the contact, eyes wide like a deer caught in headlights.

At your words, however, she relaxes, and her cheeks turn red as she blushes. You're rather alarmed when blood begins trailing out of her nose, but she doesn't seem overly-concerned with it.

“Akari-chaaaaaaaaaaan~,” she sings, lunging off of her throne and hug-tackling you to the ground, “You're. The. Cutest~!”

Your last words before you are embraced in the embrace that none can escape (also known as one of Nee-chan's hugs) are: “NEEEEEEEEEE-CHAN!”

For next thread:

Do you want to wake up tomorrow morning and go to school and all that? I hadn't really planned for the focus Nee-chan shenanigans got, and I mostly chose the not-first day of summer vacation so I could use the System Scan as an excuse to talk about your abilities.

Also, what're your preferences in your Judgment co-worker buddies? Do you want the drill-haired ojou to be Not!Mami Tomoe, or someone less specific/more generic/someone else?

I mostly intend to use Mami because blonde and drills, but whether she's super-nice or not is up in the air at the moment.

Is there any way to add more tags to the suptg thread or is it just fucked forever?
>>
>>33456991
>>33456727
Alright then, I'll add that to my list of things to do when starting a thread!

(I swear, misarchivals used to be cleverer and at least somewhat useful)

We bring ourselves home every day.
>>
>>33457051
Fucked forever unless an admin decides to fix it, but they'd have to be aware of it for that.
>>
>>33457051
I'll just tag the future ones as 'Raildex a shit', too

It's not a big deal, I think.

>>33457050
I... I'm not certain.
We'll cross that bridge when we come to it?
Probably depends on the girl, though.
>>
>>33457050
Start planning for the threesome, most likely.
>>
>>33457105
Or simply add the misarchived first thread to the start of the threads underneath your twitter account.
>>
>>33457105
It is a unique tag at the moment and I don't exactly see it getting much use in general so I guess that will work.
>>
>>33457050
Shameless shipping.
>>
>>33457152
I think that's probably one of the least likely outcomes, really

>>33457194
That wouldn't surprise me

>>33457161
I can probably just tag them as 'Raildex' and mention in the description for thread 2 that thread 1 was misarchived

>>33457157
that's another option, yeah.

There's plenty of ways to deal with this.

We'll be fine!

Eagerly awaiting the moment we get in over our head and nee-chan swoops in to save the day.
>>
>>33457248
Well, whatever you do, get to writing on the double, I want to light up some thugs!
>>
>>33457248
The threesome would never happen, obviously, but Nee-chan is clearly a little detached from reality.

Did I write down the password for the quest twitter...?

Nope.

I'll remember it soon enough!
I'm mostly reliable.

In my defense, my brain's pretty much fried right now.

OH

I remember now!
My passwords are so great that even I can't figure them out.

Make it actual photon control, instead of Mugino's electron beams. Then she can make her own light shows for dramatic entrances.
And military style dazzlers.
>>

You underestimate me, anon.

When I say laser,

I mean LIGHT AMPLIFICATION via STIMULATION by EMITTED RADIATION

You'd best believe she's gonna strobe some fools. Her quanta shall be unquantifiable!

Ow.

I'm entirely sorry for that pun.

Naturally, being inspired by Mami, she'll have HAMMY names for every attack, too.
>>
Imagine if OP put us in branch 177 but we never actually meet the MCs due to shenanigans
>>
>>33460504
I was planning on having you guys roll 3d10 to determine the number, actually.
If you run into canon characters, though, it'll be minor stuff, like meeting Accelerator at the store and chastising him for drinking so much coffee/not doing his homework.
Or running into Stiyl and having another character wonder aloud if the two of you are related or something.
Or running into Kongou and realizing that your life is but an empty shell, devoid of best girl.

I'm kidding, of course.

I'd never tease you like that.

We'll never meet Kongou-sama.

Maybe someday I'll run a one-shot with a canon character as the MC.

And, now that I've vented those terrible ideas, we won't have to worry about them ever again!
Probably.
