You have always wanted to be an emperor. That ambition has burned dimly in the past, tempered by reality. Now the opportunity to realise your ambition has arrived and you are determined not to let it slip. Now is the time to build your empire and become an emperor.

Last Thread: You are the knight, Talon York, and you are an emperor, but not the emperor… yet. Last thread you diplomanced to hell and back. Right now you’re being confronted by a dragon.

1. Next thread is on the 25th at 6:30pm EDT.
2. This thread will run for as long as necessary to get all the diplomacy out of the way, unless player interest drops to one or two votes.

Rolls are d20 and the best of the first three posters. I may sometimes ask for more dice to be rolled by each player, but same rules apply otherwise. Please quote the post you are voting for or rolling against. Note there are hard-to-replace points that can be used to offset failures in rolls. Please see the General Pastebin, linked through the Master Bin above, for more info and detailed dice rules.

It's a little late, but, have you considered using ask.fm for questions, instead of an email account?
Archelon set one up recently and it's been pretty successful.

You decide to sit in the chair behind your desk, although you did move there very slowly.

“I’m surprised that you didn’t sit in my chair,” you say as you walk, keeping a close eye on the helldragon-in-human-form. “It seems like the sort of thing you do after sneaking into somebody’s private room.”

“That would have been rude. I’m here to talk peaceably, not start a fight,” Sylvian replies matter-of-factly.

“How did you know I’d be here?” you ask as you sit down.

“I made a wager that you would venture here sooner or later. If you didn’t I could either alert one of the many mystic foxes scanning for intruders or simply go find you,” she replies, giving you a sweet smile as you take your seat.

Somehow you feel like you’re in more danger than before in this seat. You should feel like you’re in control now, but it really just feels like you’re being bent over the barrel. You despise the feeling but are unwilling to upset your ‘guest’ just yet.

“I’m surprised that you came personally, particularly given you already have an inquisitor here,” you say.

She raises an eyebrow at that. “We both know that Harold’s main interest here is how many pretty, or not so pretty, women he can bed. I made the mistake of scrying on his surroundings late last night and that was as evident to me as anything else he may have encountered.”

You stare in response to the admission that Sylvian was using your ‘friend’ as a way to spy on you. As well as the fact she apparently caught Harry ‘in the act’ – serves her right, you think. Still, “I’m not sure I appreciate being spied upon.”

“Given my organisation is riddled with Karise’s spies, I don’t think you’re in any position to talk,” she retorts. “I let her go after Ren told me as a sign of good faith but don’t for a second think I don’t realise the implications.”

“You’re supporting me, then,” you say.

“I’m waiting to see what everybody’s favourite wildcard does,” she says, giving you a sharp smile. “That’s what everybody likes about you – you’re powerful, charismatic and dangerous yet nobody knows precisely what you’ll do. So everybody tries to win you over – Alyce plays to your heart, using your companions against you. Fenix uses the fact the two of you share similar ambitions and the same potential of monstrousness. No doubt the lesser powers whisper their own sweet nothings into your ear.”

“And you’re going to be different?” you respond, unable to help yourself.

“Yes and no. I’m not going to make sweet offers to you. I’m merely going to tell you what will happen if you do work with me and what will happen if you don’t,” she says. “Before that, I’m interested to hear where you think the world is going in the next decade? If you weren’t here to change that.”

I'm pretty sceptical of setting up anything outside twitter, the pastebins and these threads. I don't see myself using the email for much, to be honest. I'll reconsider other options if that turns out to be untrue.

Karise and her foxes directly serve you so they're actually exempt from this. The foxes from Ren's clan aren't. Also, even if they weren't it still stands to reason that her organisation is still riddled with your spies.

I am all for being a smartarse
But I was actually not certain because both lord ember went insane and fenix tells us his archmage's rebellion is caused by insanity as well, specifically, a claim that the world is ending.

She is sitting down.
>“You do have them. I didn’t teleport in,” replies Witch-Hunter General Sylvian, still smiling at you, sitting in the guest chair near your desk.

>2.

“The League and the RSK fracture,” you say. “With the existing issues in the west and the general weakness in every other major power this means there’s no united force or ideal to fight for. There was widespread religious forces under the angels and the Three Lords were sane and united to fight the shadowbeasts just two hundred years ago but now there would not even be that. The end result would be that any sufficiently major threat would spell doom.”

Sylvian nods, giving you a genuinely appreciative smile. “A sufficiently cynical answer. I came to a similar answer six hundred years ago when I formed the Mage Guard from the ruins of the Wardens of old and played an important role in preventing the Three Lords from conquering the continent just two centuries later. I think the same now but find my old cause failing and the foes ever greater.”

You frown at that. “Ever greater? Most mages I speak to say that magic is less powerful now than previously.”

Sylvian snorts. “There’s less powerful magical entities in the world now, with the slow demise of the angels and the would-be-Gods, but mages grow ever more powerful themselves and the shadowbeasts show that divine threats never wane in power.”

You stare at her in surprise. “You know what they are?” you ask incredulously.

She gives you an odd look. “Not precisely but I thought it obvious. The shadowbeasts’ arrival and subsequent attacks, as well as the desperation of the angels in fighting them off, was suspiciously similar to the behaviour recorded around the Emergence. Then again, that might be a little far back in history for you. Never mind, that – just know that not all threats are internal. One must always be vigilant, just as you appear to be.”

“How do I come into this?” you ask, feeling like you already know the answer.

“When I formed the Mage Guard, I did so believing I could champion such change,” she says, not answering you directly. “As it is, I was merely able place myself as a destroyer of threats, not a builder of solutions. A fitting role given my background but of limited usefulness now. The world-“

You interrupt her, “You mean the continent, right? Word usage is kind of important.”

Sylvian gives you a glare, but you catch the hints of a smile on her face. “The world,” she repeats with emphasis, “needs a strong base to build any defense from. As you said yourself, even the war against the shadowbeasts relied heavily on the angels and the Lords. With their power waning, who shall we rely on next? Alyce has fallen prey to the fractiousness of mages. Fenix’s ploy at using the selfishness of royalty and nobility is collapsing under the weight of his own crimes despite his technique’s success. Malataine draws on power I would see destroyed. That leaves you and your record says you might be willing to work with me.”

“In place of the other powers,” you say.

“In place of certain doom,” she says, giving you a serious look. “Whether that may be from me or time itself.”

Sylvian leans back a bit, eying you closely. It appears she’s said her bit, even if it’s mostly unclear precisely what she wants. You’ll likely need to question her directly if you want to know the specifics – something intentional as it lets her keep the initiative.

"What are you offering me, specifically. I have heard nothing that indicates that you can offer me the resources needed. "
>>
>>33508372

Did our policy on vampires not preclude any "understanding" with the Mage Guard?

What would working with the Mage Guard specifically entail? What policy and conditions would she set for us? What level of supervision if any?

Would they be willing to offer us anything to ensure that we will become the strong base to build her defense around? I only heard threats and vague warnings of apocalypse so far.

>>
>>33508439
oh, maybe corrupted gods?
Or, an angel's equivalent from an evil/corrupt god?
Devils are not inherently evil, they are super lawful and they seem to practice technomagic instead of spellcasting.
So what if shadow beasts represent evil, devils, and angels good and fae chaos?
ok this is falling apart, angels aren't actually good. and there are no alignments in this setting (although that doesn't mean some gods don't declare themselves to be good and other evil)
>>
>>33508479
well Samael disappeared right since the formation of the barrier of Marie so I presumed hes on the other side of the barrier
>>
>>33508494

>>
>>33508372
Saving ourselves from a certain doom is all well and good, and I surely will work to prevent such a thing, but there are many immediate problems around me and I have my immediate goals for myself and my empire. It seems if I ally myself with you now, I would fail at dealing with these problems and reaching these goals.

"If you don't already know then I'm not about to tell you off-hand," Sylvian says. "Suffice to say it's precisely the sort of thing I set up the Mage Guard to stop."

>>33508416
>so shadowbeasts are demons? or what?
"Merely that they are a divine being like them. An otherworldly invader - for all that the angels and demons act like inhabitants of this world they are still foreign conquerors who merely lost their kingdoms in the Cataclysm."

"You already sound like you've spoken with Raphael. That's good but my concerns are larger than the Barrier. Samael would understand better but I know not where she lurks."

>>33508463
>Did our policy on vampires not preclude any "understanding" with the Mage Guard?
"Perhaps. I am not the Mage Guard, however. Controlling and herding the vampires is precisely the sort of thing I like to see - it is uncontrolled, unmonitored power that I worry over, not the sort kept under lock and key."

>What would working with the Mage Guard specifically entail? What policy and conditions would she set for us? What level of supervision if any?
"I am not suggesting you work with the Mage GUard. I am suggesting you work with me directly. This would involve... subsumation of those Mage Guard elements that are cooperative. The point would be to create a united power that was about more than just controllnig and containing magic yet was always careful to do so.

"It would be necessary to ensure that runaway elements of the Seraphs and the League were kept under control. There would be far too high a risk that they might run amok and draw on powers they shouldn't otherwise."

"To be frank, Alyce and I do not get along. Her ideas for restraint of magic are too open for me - she would allow precisely what caused the issues with my race before its downfall. I have similar issues with the Seraphi nobles - that blood of theirs they cherish is a tainted curse that will bring ruin on them," she says.

"Not so simply, no. Especially as I can't be certain you won't tell them of my suspicions," she says.

>>33508718
>Why does the mage guard disallow compagnom to trade with pharos?
"Pharos is... complicated. Part of it was wanting to keep the foxes protected, another was that the Shadow Empress has been embracing the magicks that the foxes helped keep at bay previously. Alyce is out to abolish the royal bloodlines and foster free magical research "for the good of the people"
Fenix is out to crush the royal bloodlines and socially engineer all people into a massive warrior culture "for the good of the people"
Helldragon lady is out to lock up and tightly control and limit or outright stamp out "dangerous research" and "dangerous thinkings" and "dangerous powers" and so on "for the good of the people"

All the major powers simply disagree on WHAT the good of the people are. just like IRL. A communist and a capitalist will both tell you their goal is just and benefits the people

We will probably come back to her and talk much more in depth after some time. When these vague threats she talks about become a bit more real.
>>
Honestly, I expected and hoped for a bit more bluntness against her. We were blunt even against Raphael. I am disappointed in this conversation. She kept concealing things and talking nothing, after accusing everyone of talking sweet nothings no less. Her words were not sweet but they were even more empty than others' sweet nothings. And we just let her.

Given this is literally the third time this session I've wondered why I even bothered with trying in-depth diplomatic talks, I don't think I'm going to waste time on anything like this again. I don't normally comment on these sort of thoughts, but this has been pretty stark from my point of view. It's a huge amount of effort to do the in-character diplomatic talks and nobody seems happy afterwards.

Pick a character, no customs. Just some light social activity to close things off because I'm not touching anything serious or difficult right now.

For those not interested, next thread is on the 25th at 6:30pm EDT.

I actually enjoyed most of them. I think the real reason people are unhappy is basically fatigue. We've had a lot of inconclusive meetings in a short period of time.
>>
>>33509150
>1. Taira
I normally sit out on these talks as I'm outa my depth on them. I appreciate the effort and enjoy lore and insights into the different personalities, I just blank out on what to say.
>>
>>33509150
I can see why you wanted to get them all out of the way but chaining them like this was probably tiring for everyone. Besides, I enjoyed them aside from the dragon.
>>
>>33509150
I think it is mainly how long the Q and A goes on. After the first surge or two there isn't much questions so it takes a while to get along.

>>33509150
probably should did the following order of
>negotiate
>tourny
>negotiate
>tourny
etc.
>>
>>33509150
I think the reason these talks don't work is because we feel directionless on what to actually say, which makes it difficult, and then we don't get any immediate payoff when we finally finish, which makes it frustrating.
I think if we had a more tangible and immediate result, then they would be more enjoyed. Look at the 'conversation bosses' in Deus Ex: Human Revolution for example. Those worked well because they had big, dramatic results, even in the middle of the conversation. They were more like verbal duels and they had emotional stakes.

I don't know if that's the kind of thing you can emulate in any kind of reasonable way, but if you're up to it, give it a try. These talks are very civil, but all the tension is wound up in uncertainty of what to do rather than real drama (excepting perhaps the Princess), and then there's no release. Just a vague promise of future change.
>>
>>33509150
>and nobody seems happy afterwards.
What do you mean by that?
It didn't feel like people are displeased with the results of the talks
i thought they went just fine. some were really eye opening and totally unexpected too

The responses to Sylvian's are identical to that of Fenix's from my point of view and makes the session feel like a waste of time.

She was offering her personal assistance, that of a massively powerful helldragon, in exchange for you working with her to destroy and rebuild the Mage Guard, crush the Magi League and RSK rebels and then build a strong empire. The main drawback would be that she would have pose restrictions on how you could approach and use magic. This is literally all in the text.

>>33509197
Which just reinforces the point. I feel like I've wasted a session and a half on this (plus the Alyce session) when it's going to come down to an infodump of benefits and drawbacks in the meeting. The actual meetings appear to breakdown to complaints about nation leaders not giving out precise details about the nitty gritty that won't actually matter.

>>33509235
The problem with not chaining them is that it results in annoying situations like the vampire situation where I feel limited in what I can do because you don't actually know what you're really making a decision on. It basically defeats the whole point of even attempting to offer strategic choices outside of a list in a meeting.

This. The talk with princess whatsherface was on the low end of interesting drama. Drama is conflict. Make us fight for stuff, give us obstacles (but do give us important/necessary information or we'll stall).

gotta love /tg/ stalling
>>
>>33509316
In addition to this, it might help if you made it clear what our goal is in a very broad sense going into a talk. If we have a goal, a conflict, and then a payoff, it'll be good even if it's bad.

I'm mostly complaining about the fact people are complaining about things not happening that did, in fact, happen. I don't care if people didn't ask much, because that means they got the info they needed. I'm bothered that people said they didn't get information I felt I literally just gave them.

Right, my bitching about this disaster of a thread aside, social scene. Just know that whenever I have to revisit this sort of diplomatic decision making (if ever) it will be 100% different. Open-ended talks are clearly a waste of time for everybody involved.

The tournament is still a couple of weeks out and you’re out in the courtyard with Taira in the middle of the night. Not exactly your idea of a good time, particularly as you’re still wearing clothes, but it feels necessary.

You focus your power again while Taira glowers at you, her tails fluttering about her as she tries to monitor what you’re doing. You’re apparently doing something wrong but you don’t know what.

Maybe if you succeed (again) this time she’ll be less unhappy?

Or you might try to do it differently and fail outright, prompting another outburst of anger.

“Don’t change how you do it!” she shouts at you, her tails waving around her menacingly as you stare at her with vague bemusement. “Just do it!”

“You should be careful about shouting that aloud, Taira,” you find yourself saying automatically, your mouth running on autopilot. “People might get ideas.”

The somewhat diminutive fox glowers at you. It’s been a rather constant theme for the night, you feel. Something about the way you’re using your astral power aggravates her to no end. You decide to stand, putting an end to the nonsense – surely she knows what you’re doing and it’s the definition of insanity to think it’ll suddenly change for no reason.

“So, what’s got you in such a tizz?” you ask her.

Sadly, she doesn’t answer, instead raising her head in a huff. You sigh and decide to pass the time by stroking the nearest tail. As if on cue, the other tails shuffle closer to you even as their owner steadfastly ignores you.

“Take me somewhere fun,” Taira demands of you, still not looking at you.

The only way you’re getting anything out of her is by entertaining her and you could do with something relaxing yourself after several hours of pointless frustration. You take her to…

>1. The hot springs. A relaxing bathe will do the both of you some good.
>2. The kitchen. A midnight snack is exactly what you both need.

Seems there is some miscommunication. I thought it was pretty clear what she wanted, I don't think other anons complaining she basically didn't say anything missed this either. She said she wanted to with Mage Guard with our help and then move on to force her ideals to everyone.
What we were complaining is basically that we have no idea what this would mean. What would she have us do? What would she do for us? How would we bring deal with mage guard? What would we do about the league and rsk, and how would we do it? What are her restriction on magic? Because we obviously will not restrict our mages as much as she would like. What about our mages and mage towers? These are just from the top of my head.
King Fenix for example told about the situation, his goal, what he expected from us, and what kind of alliance we would forge.
Alyse similarly explained mostly what she would want, what she would provide. Although she was secretive about more long-term goals.

There were literally three posts right after I called for final questions saying that the conversation with her was a waste of time.

>What would she have us do?
>>33508575
>This would involve... subsumation of those Mage Guard elements that are cooperative.
>"It would be necessary to ensure that runaway elements of the Seraphs and the League were kept under control.
Basically, take over the Mage Guard while ensuring that RSK and league rebellions are taken advantage of.

>What would she do for us?
>>33508575
>"I am an ancient helldragon that makes your pure elementals look like children. I am your resource
She would offer you the help of an enormously old, wise and powerful helldragon.

>How would we bring deal with mage guard? What would we do about the league and rsk, and how would we do it?
The same thing you usually do with people you're fighting.

>What are her restriction on magic?
She was intentionally vague on this. She was trying to imply that she didn't mind magic as a tool but didn't like the idea of magic taking on a life of its own.

Finally, for people who missed it earlier, the email I created for the quest is in this post, too.

>1.

As you stepped into the hot springs cavern you tried not to think too hard about being here with Taira. It normally wouldn’t be a problem but the golden fox had been very physical with you despite openly avoiding sex. This also wouldn’t be a problem if she wasn’t so happy to make sexual comments to you. You also didn’t see even that being a problem if it weren’t for the fact you were certain that Taira wouldn’t cease being physical with you and making sexual comments in the hot springs.

Hence the difficulty controlling your imagination. Not that you’d need to imagine things shortly, as Taira strips off her clothing rather quickly. You did the same and followed her into the steaming hot water, if less excitably. Obviously your foxy acquisition hadn’t found the time to enjoy your hot springs yet.

Sinking into the water you idly watch Taira wash her tails for a few minutes, noting the way she idly uses her own spiritual techniques to keep the tails from soaking through with water. Neither Vad nor Tsucchi had bothered with that last time so you assumed it was just one of the useless useful techniques that Taira had found the time to work on in her millennia here. You made a slight splashing noise as you stretched out and she turned to you with wide eyes. Did she forget you were here?

You suddenly found yourself with several fluffy tails pressed against you.

“Wash me,” Taira commanded imperiously.

You decide to let your lust get the better of you and go straight for the fox herself rather than her fluffy tails. As you hand snaks around Taira’s body she lets out a squeak but still relaxes into your touch happily, her fluffy tails pressing on you as she leans into you. You’d expected some resistance, given her past behaviour, but maybe she’s finally given up on playing hard to get?

“You’re rather good at this, aren’t you?” she asks suddenly.

“I do have some experience,” you say.

“True,” she says. “I can’t wait until Finn gets some, too. He’ll be worth chasing into bed rather than just teasing.”

You frown at that. “You’re really interested in Finn?”

“When he learns what to do in bed,” she replies, her hands playing over your arm as it moves lower on her body. “I’ve learnt over the years not to make a boy a man if you don’t want something serious from them. Finn will be fun but he’s not really my type.”

“But Vad is,” you say, surprised at the idea.

“He was. He still kind of is, even if he is a little emasculated after so many years of politicking. Plus, you intimidate and confuse him so he tends to act strangely around you,” Taira replies.

You shift one of your hands to her tails, emitting a low moan from the fox, before saying, “I honestly don’t know why he would be thinking that.”

“He has Ren as a model authority figure so your brusque warrior-king approach is new to him,” she says, shrugging. “You can see the same thing in Karise these last two weeks. They see something new and latch onto it if they like it. Vad just doesn’t know if he should latch on or let go so he’s waffling.”

“He seemed like he’d latched on when he refused you earlier,” you say.

“I’d thought so, too, but he’s still acting oddly. I could be wrong,” she says, in the tone of voice that suggests she doesn’t think she’s wrong at all.

The fastest way to a woman’s heart is to force them to give it to you, in your experience. Right now that means you’ll tease Taira to your heart’s content until she finally gives you a reaction. You continue brushing your hands over her body in some semblance of washing but without giving her what she clearly wants.

“Why were you getting so frustrated earlier?” you ask her while she’s focused on lightly pulling your hands in different directions (and you pull back in return).

“Because you’re wasting so much power every time you use any of it but it isn’t going anywhere,” she bites out as several of her tails restrict your right arm from going any higher. “It should be going somewhere – light, sound, heat, a portal out of this world. Instead it just appears to dissipate into nothingness. It’s clearly coming from your soul but it appears to be going back into your body – which makes no sense.”

You sigh, not making any sense of her words. As a reward you let Taira guide your hand to between her legs though steadfastly keep it just that little bit too high as she mumbles in annoyance at your antics.

“I don’t understand what you just said,” you say plainly.

“Your astral power comes from your soul, which makes sense – nothing else could pull it in safely. The problem is that it doesn’t appear to be going back out. If it’s going into your body you should either be visibly non-human or dead,” she says, speaking lightly of the potential for your power to kill you. “Instead it just vanishes as if it was never there. I don’t get it.”

Before you can say anything, Taira looks up at you with a funny look as if she’s holding something in.

Her green eyes moist, Taira gives you a slightly begging look and her mouth hangs open for a bit. But she refuses to say anything and quickly turns back to pushing futilely on your arms. For your part, you continue with your own fun.

“Do you know if angels or the Lords are like this?” you ask.

She shakes her head, one of her hands twitching like it wants to take matters into its own… hand. “The angels carry their astral energy in their body as it’s actually made of magic. The God-knights didn’t actively use astral energy in the same way you do but I don’t know about the Lords. I can’t see how they’d do it either. You seem to be violating everything I know about how magical energy must be used.”

“What about Faeries?” you ask, catching her free hand and tickling her free palm, pulling some giggles from her lips.

“They don’t,” she starts, interrupted by a giggle. “Their astral energy just pours out into the world. They don’t take any back in if they don’t use it.”

Which meant you weren’t behaving like any of the entities Taira had seen. The process of elimination suggested you might be like the Lords but it was also possible you were something else entirely. Or maybe Taira was missing something?

You grit your teeth as Taira’s other hand wanders over your lower body. It seems she’s changed tact after refusing to give in to you.

Taira gives you a sour look but it swiftly turns a bit shocked as you stop teasing her and take the initiative. "Oh, that's... um, maybe we should visit him later then. If he knows then... mmm, you can't be anything too strange."

So, now that the thread is over, what do you people think we should do about allies?

I am personally close to accepting Alyce. Though I would like to learn more about her goals, motives and long-term plans.

King Fenix wants to draw us into the royal plays of RSK and I don't want that. I rather like our conquering style.

I don't think we'll be able to see eye to eye with Slyvian on many matters. So while I see no reason to fight with her, I don't think we could work closely with her for a long time. That being said, we could help each other on matters of mutual benefit and even maybe exchange some favors.
>>
>>33510525
Don't trust any of them. I kind of do want to double play though. Just because insider info is useful as we grow in power. The hard part is keeping things from spiraling out of control.
>>
Good run Aspirational. I know pushing forward with a pile of diplomacy is difficult, I think you did a good job on all of them and managed as much characterization as you could through the limited time they had.

I think your own frustrations might also stem from a lot of people constantly wanting to hold out for more information but when finally given the opportunity don't seize on the chance and instead start expecting the world to fall upon their laps. We're not exactly on the position to be expecting much in dealings with larger forces, this issue was especially evident when people wanted things from Raphael. Maybe it's a problem of character power level not equaling empire power level. I don't know, bit I saw a lot of benefits to having a fucking Heldragon say she'll help us out. Christ man.

That said I like how each of the Terminal routes provides a clear character direction for Talon. Help define things in the short term.
>>
>>33510545
What do you mean double play? They will have distinct expectation that generally conflict with each other. You can not hope to make both sides think you are allying with them. They will find it out in no time if we try.

We could refuse to ally any of them and try to deal with each of them on matter to matter basis. That could be very beneficial or could cause us to go into war with all of them.

>I don't know, bit I saw a lot of benefits to having a fucking Heldragon say she'll help us out.
Given she's more powerful than any of the Champion candidates at maximum power, that should be obvious. You don't get to be an ancient dragon in this world by being a layabout.

I was trying to present Sylvian as a noticeably different approach to the other two. It's devoid of the sort of politics and ideals that Alyce and Fenix would give you, instead giving you some restrictions around the behaviour you can show towards magic and how it can help you (things like patterns, magically engineering people etc). It would also be more conflict ridden as you'd be fighting the staunchly anti-mage part of the Mage Guard at the same time you would be expected to take both Shropham and fight off Falwick/Asfael. More of a conquest approach, with the League and RSK bitterly against you as they dislike Sylvian, but with the backing of a huge dragon rather than getting tech and trade bonuses from an allied nation.

The other thing I'll need to address at the start of next thread is the Caitlyn thing. It's kind of implicit but I wouldn't be offering the Sylvian alliance if it meant spurning Lynn (because it would be 100% pointless to make the offer at all).
>>
>>33510686

>engineering people

See that sounds interesting enough for me to go with it, especially with how you've portrayed fire within the setting.

I supported the mystery box the first time and I'd do so again. She was right to say the other rulers are using things against us, amusingly enough she seems like the most level playing field option.

Hey Aspirational, random thought.

Have you considered doing some one offs, maybe to help recharge your batteries a bit and let you have fun. You've said that the over the top insane posts are your favorite to write, so maybe just dedicating a thread to that would be good for you. I had thought maybe you could go onto the legends and backgrounds of various Items of Power. As I'm sure those are suitably intense. And you have said you want to add them to the lorebin, but not as a write off detail. Might be good to give them so good time and over the top fun.

Also I'm not saying I'm bored, I love the quest even if it seems like a disaster to you. Just want you to still have fun and not see it as a chore, because the moment that happens you'll start to lose interest and then dead quest.
>>
So guys, what happened to that statue dude we found in the labyrinth underneath Ahm?
>>
>>33511432
Corrfax?

Presumably chilling by the Source doing his duty. I'd wager a very Gnome and him has a few chats while she meditated there during our time home.
>>
>>33511460
Yes him, I wasn't very attentive during those threads and was worried we'd forgotten about him and the deal we made with him.
>>
>>33511657
Nah, Taira ported him to Harrowmont before we left.

Just hasn't come up, or had the chance to talk to him. Minor character and all. It's a shame Aspirational doesn't like doing social threads, feel like he could get some time there as well as many of other side characters. I mean Christ when was the last time we talked to Mal?
>>
>>33510742
Going with Sylvian woukd mean we *can't* engineer people.
Honestly, she lost her species/nation to an engineered subrace, what made you think she was for it?
>>
>>33512012
>Honestly, she lost her species/nation to an engineered subrace, what made you think she was for it?
To a civil war caused by internal tensions, though that engineered subrace had a lot to do with it.
>>
>>33512054
The point still stands.
Honestly, the reading comprehension in this quest is appallingly bad.
>>
>>33512012
Actually yeah I totally misread that. I'm at work on my phone, my bad.
>>
>>33509150
>It's mostly because the Gendarme's are pretty boring and I'm trying to have them not be.
Have you considered making one of them a spiritualist? I could see King Felix encouraging his nobles to acquire that sort of capability.
>>
>>33512054
>To a civil war caused by internal tensions, though that engineered subrace had a lot to do with it.
but she BLAMES the racial engineering
she blames the magics. It is a bit ironic since she herself is an engineered race (helldragon is an enhanced dragon).
its not logical and it is a bit hypocritical of her. but that's how the cards fall down
>>
>>33514436
The main issue I could foresee with that is that she might have detected Talon's nature in the past. On the flip side, that asssumes that she was skilled enough to notice the difference when we were last with her (it was presumably less pronounced as well). Also, its entirely possible, even likely, that that our hypothetical spiritualist did notice that talon was weird, but not having ever met someone who uses astral power she didn't know what she was seeing.
>>
>>33515485
I'm actually pretty sure Talons astral was piss poor weak before the source like even Mal didn't notice it even though he was with the guy for over a decade and even the 5 tail foxy lady Talon almost married didn't notice. Actually holy shit that may have something to do with why Taira can't sense where the power is going.

>>33515323
All I know is we should give her the D. Because who else can say they gave the D to a helldragon?
>>
>>33515664
>5 tail foxy lady Talon almost married didn't notice.
Or didn't tell us if she did.
>>
>>33515722
Can't see why she wouldn't though. From the sounds of it Talon had her wrapped around his finger. Be kind of odd if she wouldn't mention he seemed inhuman.
>>
>>33515761
>From the sounds of it Talon had her wrapped around his finger
It sounded exactly the opposite.
>>
>>33515816
Talon liked the fluffy tails. He still bailed out on marrying her and seemed to have a good idea about her. Which reminds me Arisa flashback arc when?
>>
>>33515664
She can sense where its going, its going into talons body, but that doesn't make sense since his body APPEARS to just be a normal human and he SHOULD be looking like some inhuman monster instead.

I think the key to this is the enfeeblement. the "enfeebled" talon is his base human form. The super buff super sexy talon is his "inhuman form" that just happens to look like the ultimate alpha male human
>>
>>33516258
>“Instead it just appears to dissipate into nothingness..It’s clearly coming from your soul but it appears to be going back into your body – which makes no sense.”

Seems to me that it just up and vanishes and she thinks it goes back into the body. She can't actually see it going back into the body though.
It appears
>>
>>33516427
I think there is something in his body/soul that even Taira is not familiar with. So the power is emitted by his soul in high amounts, shaped and used by Talon to do whatever he wants, and the excess of it goes to 'it' whatever it is that resides in Talon.
>>
>>33516427
right, it vanishes into his body
>Instead it just appears to dissipate into nothingness
it vanishes, where does it go?
>It’s clearly coming from your soul but it appears to be going back into your body
it comes out of soul and goes into body

further
>Your astral power comes from your soul, which makes sense – nothing else could pull it in safely. The problem is that it doesn’t appear to be going back out. If it’s going into your body you should either be visibly non-human or dead

Our "visibly non human" appearance is that of the super awesome human classical ideal body.
I for crying out loud our beard HEALS. beards do not get injured... in humans, in talon they do.
>>
>>33516572
It heals if we use astral power on it yeah. But that just seems more a application of life domain to ourselves.

The Gendarme family are all magic-users, as are almost all Seraphi nobles. Also, the only place to learn spiritualism is from the monks and no ruler would risk making the monasteries a target by forcing them to train nobles and/or soldiers (because normally they would refuse).

>>33515869
>Which reminds me Arisa flashback arc when?
Either immediately before or after Termina is conquered.

>>33516572
>I for crying out loud our beard HEALS. beards do not get injured... in humans, in talon they do.
That has more to do with the way astral healing works - the healnig is done by projecting your image of how things should be onto reality. Hence why Talon regained his beard when he healed the burns on his face as he pictured himself as having a beard.

>>33519546
>Also, Got any clue how you're going to deal with our sudden hankering for civil engineering?
I'll have to do some research into canals for one. Then I'll write some definite (or close to it) rules for handling earth elementals and magic as I don't have that for some stupid reason.

How many fluffy tails is too many fluffy tails? I want to say there is no limit but eventually you might get smothered.

One of these days we need to bury Talon in fluffy tails. Tsucchi+Taira+Karise. Tails everywhere.

Might add Vad and that one four tails.

I wonder what would happen if Talon changed his image of himself? To say a 7 Foot tall giant or something.

When they're not attached to one fox? No limit except that which you willpower can handle.

Taira tells you that she's the only fox who has ever gotten nine tails but it may be possible for future foxes to get more.

>>33521162
That would be a lot of fluffiness. I can see the Talon with the female tails with a lot of alcohol involved but not so much the latter - Vad spooks too easily.

>>33521184
As I mentioned in a previous thread, it's not easy to change your mental image. Even if Talon was hypnotised it would still use his actual image (rather than any implanted one). His view of himself can change over time, however. It might represent his own opinion of himself.

>>33521421
Not having those rules is what caused me to get flustered when dealing with the tunnel suggestion. I'll likely handle that at the same time.
>>
>>33521498
I'm not a card carrying member of the Tunnel Bros Club, but it might be a neat tactical option in the future. I was hoping the rules could cover two different types of tunneling if it's not too much work.

Tunneling to weaken the foundation of the wall and cause it to collapse was much more common and safer in antiquities.

Tunneling to make an entrance required much more skill and was vulnerable to counter-tunneling that would collapse the tunnel, so it should be the riskier option.

I also believe that tunnels generally required a fairly significant time investment, which I think would be nice to keep so people don't default to tunnels everytime there's a wall in the way.
>>
>>33521498
>His view of himself can change over time, however. It might represent his own opinion of himself.

That is interesting. Leads me to think if he did pull off taking over a massive chunk of the world his power would start growing as he thinks himself more invincible.
>>
>>33521498
>Talon with the female tails with a lot of alcohol involved.

I honestly can't imagine Tsucchi here. She seems really jumpy when her tails get involved.

>Vad spooks too easily.

The tunneling is more complicated in that if it's easily possible with earth elementals then there'll be dedicated countermeasures for it. Wards and magical reinforcement underground, earth elementals actively hunting for tunnelers, traps placed underground and warded to prevent easy detection etc. Walls would be protected against attempts to destabilise them from beneath. Then there's the issue of getting your troops into position without being noticed if you do make an entrance, ways to clear out a tunnel that's found or collapsing it...

With magic it seems that the actual digging and reinforcement of the tunnel is considerably easier than IRL (particularly as earth elementals have a level of knowledge about their work that would match what modern instruments could gather). But it's precisely that reason that means that there would have to be a lot of well-known countermeasures. I'm applying a bit of reverse logic here - walls and forts are still popular despite earth elementals being (somewhat) common, therefore there must be countermeasures or walls and forts would not be popular.

That's how I intend on approaching it, in any case.

>>33521796
>I honestly can't imagine Tsucchi here. She seems really jumpy when her tails get involved.
Alcohol could still draw her in. Most foxes get jumpy with their tails around anybody but their lover. Taira's less sensitive and was openly gunning for Talon from the get-go.

No, not necessarily in harem.
>>
I am happy about so much fluffy surrounding Talon as of late, but also sad. The other girls haven't been loved in forever, namely Undine and Lynn. Not sure if Sala counts, Gnome is currently not here, and we've recently got some Sarah.

Talon should write a book on Harem Managing 101
>>
>>33521881

I always get a kick out of how every single fox ignores that she always has her tails somewhere on him.

Suddenly just see Talon getting drunk as fuck. Then waking up next to Tsucchi's tails. Then turning around and seeing a passed out Ren on the other side of him.

We have rarely talked to Lynn and Undine lately. But then again there really isn't much to talk about to them at the moment.

You both have your reputations. On that note, I'm surprised there hasn't been much player reaction to Taira's open interest in Finn.

I tend to give more time to newer characters when they're introduced.

I will be running a social thread after 'Big Decisions' thread along with a (probably) one-shot. I hope to share the love a bit then.

OR if we are gonna seduce her into the harem, its just a case of feeling that acting possessive of her in this point will be counter intuitive. If we want her all to ourselves we basically have to convince her we are so much better than other men to the point where she shouldn't even bother with them.
Throwing a tantrum about her showing interest in others is counter productive to that goal

Well, she's that as well. It's more that she's had a lot more partners than most foxes and is considerably more accustomed to having her tails stroked.

Though all this makes me wonder just what it looks like when she does that in the fox social sense.

Stroking of tails is the equivalent of kissing in public as far as most foxes are concerned. A fox wrapping their tails around somebody or generally placing them close to the person is like holding hands. Taira gets away with it because she's the former chief and she has a reputation for being promiscuous.
>>
Just going to mention an idea social scene I had a while back that sounded fun. Since they'll be a social one pretty soon.

Get Finn, Talon, Mal, and Vad all drunk as hell in a room. Leading to Talon wrapping his arms around Vad and just being like "Did I ever tell you how great you are Vad? Because you are." While half passed out.

For Vad it would probably be closer to having his ass grabbed mid-battle. Karise definitely saw your approach to Sarrn as intimate, however - Sarrn wouldn't have thought the same as the social mores around tails don't apply to children and he's only recently become an adult.
