You are the PRODUCER, a former soldier hired to manage a group of teenage girls on their rise to stardom, assuming they don't get killed in the process!

You sigh as you lean back in your chair, reviewing your schedule. With the Idol Expo and the Captain's training regimen coming up soon, you felt now as not the time to complicate things with missions or performances. You needed to focus your energies on these two events. However, you needed to decide what to do first. The Idol Expo was a couple weeks away. You could start up the Captain's training in that time, but you fear that the physical strain could affect Rochelle and Cole's performances, especially when they had to watch Rin's back while they were there.

You decide that it would be better to start the training now. At least there would be time that your girls would be able to apply at least some of it to the Expo when it came. You pick up your phone and dial up the Captain.

"Captain, I've decided that we should start up the new training regimen now. I want to get at least some of it in before the Expo starts."

"Got it." The Captain replies. "I can do physical training easily, but I'll only be able to fit in one specialized course in that timeframe. What do you want done first?"

"Teamwork exercises will do." You say. "Can't have an effective squad if they don't know how to work together, right?"

"Indeed." The Captain nods.

>All idols have gained or ranked up in the TEAMWORK skill! This means that idols working in concert to complete a single task will have their chances of success significantly improved. This also allows idols with TEAMWORK to temporarily assume the role of an incapacitated idol that also has TEAMWORK, though at a slightly reduced effectiveness.

"So, I suspect it's all those trust exercises and stuff?"

"And lots of weapon familiarization." The Captain says. "That also means I"m implementing the 'collective punishment' doctrine."

You wince. "Collective punishment" meant that if one member of the squad fucked up something, the ENTIRE squad was punished as well. You remember one time in boot when one of the drill instructors found an unsecured weapon and there was hell to pay. The entire barracks ended up having to disassemble and service EVERY weapon in the armory.

It was not a fun time. Your idols were in for a rough time.

"And as for Rochelle," The Captain continued, "what do you want me to do with her?"

"Oh, do I sense that you want to go easy on her?" You raise an eyebrow.

"She's only human." The Captain shrugs. "And by that, I mean still mostly organic. Are you sure she'd want this?"

You think back to pretty much everything you've been able to gather from your conversations and interactions with Rochelle. She was smart, driven, and dedicated, with a clear goal in mind.

"She wants to be the best, Captain. The very least we can do is give her the opportunity to be." You say simply and firmly. "She has what it takes. I know it."

The Captain seems slightly taken aback by your confidence, but gives a slight grin.

"All right, Producer, if you say so. She'll be getting the real deal, but it's going to be risky."

"How risky are talking about?"

"Well, it's pretty much guaranteed she's going to take some serious hits." The Captain sighs. "But from what I saw, you've got a really good doctor on staff, so it shouldn't be too big a deal. But if things go bad... they'll get BAD. The chance is slim, but she might end up getting a career ending injury... or worse."

I rather have an idol that is not doing as much, I think Rochelle needs to focus on what she needs to do, while flattering to have her attend the event juggling singing with this crippling training,I feel is a risk.

"Well, first things first, what exactly is the Expo about?" You ask. "Like, really, what is the reason?"

"Well, on paper, the Expo is to 'promote cooperation and mutual understanding between idol companies.'" Jenner says. "But I'm sure it's just an excuse for people to show off."

"That's basically it." Lillith nods. "It's the one chance in the year that idol companies get to come together and try to prove that they're the best. It's not just a social gathering, but it's also a competition."

"Like, a literal competition?" You ask.

"Not really." Lillith shakes her head. "Most of it is subtle, under the table stuff. The big megacorps regularly send reps there to attend, so the objective is mainly to try and woo one of them into sponsoring your company. If two companies try to gun for the same one, well..."

"Well what?"

"I guess the idol equivalent of an underground cage fight? It can be a variety of challenges from a sing off between performance idols to a duel between combat idols. Depends on the situation, really. But there is one official competition during the Expo."

"And what would that be?" You ask.

"At the end of the Expo, each attending idol company sends up one performance idol to sing a closing number, and everybody in attendance decides who did the best. There's not really any real reward, besides the symbolic one, but in an industry like this, that can still be significant."

"So, what would be the security situation?" You ask.

"Well, if they haven't changed the venue, then the Expo will be held at the Ritz Carlton Orbital, at the top of OCP Space Elevator."

"Dang." You whistle. You heard about the RCO Hotel. Spending just one night up there cost millions, and that was just for a standard room. "So I assume security is tight."

"Extremely." Jenner nods. "Since the elevator and the hotel are on OCP property, it's guarded by private OCP guards, who have enough training and firepower to take over a country or two. Whatever threats that may come at us, it will not be external. At least, there's a very low chance."

"What you really have to worry about is the other idol companies." Lillith warns. "They might try to pull sabotage your chances of getting a sponsorship deal or just do it out of spite. You're not allow to carry weapons in, but of course, there's never any complete guarantee someone will follow the rules."

Just a word in regards to Melissa.

If Melissa is needed over Rochelle, we'll have to take that blade out of her arm because I don't feel like having a chat with OCP personnel about why one of our girls have a blade.

"We'll just have to trust that we can handle things on our own, then." You shrug. "I mean, Cole and Rochelle are perfectly capable of handling themselves without weapons."

"True." Jenner concedes. "I doubt the other idols would risk looking bad by being caught with hidden weaponry, so it'll be an even playing field if it comes to it."

"Okay, next issue, the." You continue.

"Fashion!" Ushiyama says. "At an event like this, what you wear is everything!"

"Lillith, what's the normal dress code for the Expo?" You ask.

"Well.. the thing is, there's really no codified dress code." Lillith shrugs. "Honestly everybody just wears whatever they want. Usually to fit the theme of your their company, or to impress certain representatives, or for just plain pragmatic reasons."

"I see." You nod. "Ushiyama, do you have any suggestions?"

"Well, there's three ways I can see this happening." Ushiyama huffs. "If you want your idols to look fancy and refined, we'll have to get them formal dress. If you want them looking cute and presentable, stage costumes. Professional? Suits. Or if you want to be intimidating, we can have Rochelle and Cole wearing combat uniforms. Or we can just have them dressed casually, to show that they're just regular girls. It's all about what image you want to project."

Fancy, for Rin? Professional for Cole and Rochelle?
>>
>>33529797
>>Casual
As much as I want to see the girls in some exotic clothing, I have to go with this.
>>
>>33529797

Muh Professionalism.
>>
I think a mix would be better than just forcing one style upon the girls. I mean with Rin something casual might work better to sell that she's the everygirl

this is too good to pass up.

Rin gets fancy

Cole and Rochelle get professional.
Power Suits.

Cole can wear it loosely like a gangster if she wants to.
>>
>>33529797
>Other
Make the girls look authentic, to show who they really are. Pretending to be something else will not have the same effect.

Cole:
Modified version of the outfit we found her in. The terror of the tombs.

Rochelle:
Modified combat suit. The soldier she always wanted to be.

Rin:
The ultimate good girl outfit.

If we can combo then yeah these.

Otherwise just go with Casual/Practical.
>>

Cute for Rin, intimidating for Rochelle, Professional for Cole and Melissa.

Also talk to Falynn about making the hidden weapon stealthier.
>>
>>33529797

>>
Remember guys. These are idols.

Even if they are combat idols, they're still idols.
>>
>>33529797
>Fancy
for Rin

>Professional
for Rochelle, Cole and one extra for Melissa. Remember guys Melissa may not be wearing the same size as Rochelle and I doubt you want to go off the shelf for this kind of event.
>>
>>33529907
Which in this insane world, openly perform combat mission in what used to be Detroit. People know what idols are, thinly veiled alternatives to PMCs.
>>
>>33529862

So cole as Reno and Rochelle and Rude?

I like this contrasting look.

And Power suits are pretty practical if they have to fight in them.
>>
>>33529907
It's also projecting what the company is about and the clothes will say that quite a lot.

So when compared to that saying they're 'idols' lose a lot meaning.

I'm not such a big fan of suits. I mean sure if you want to look like everyone else. Or become part of the blur of all the other girls wearing suits.

This is the chance to show who we really are. Which is why I said authentic:
>>33529867
>>
>>33529977
Personally, I think they would clash far too much. This about the group. company as a whole. Not individuals. Sure individuals make the group but trying to make each one a special snowflake... Don't see that working to impress anyone.
>>
>>33530018
I don't see it that way. This is our biggest chance to make it big in the idol industry. And we are not going to make it by being the biggest, fastest, or strongest. Not by having our girls wear suits and pretend to be like everyone else.

It's going to be marketing. Projecting the image that we sell that is the greater version of who we are. People can smell pretenders. Only by being the best versions of ourselves we make it.

"What I'm thinking," you say as you try to imagine what your girls should wear, "is that Rin dresses fancy, while Rochelle and Cole dress professional. To show that if anybody wants to get to Rin, they gotta go through them."

"Hmmmm, interesting." Ushiyama nods. "That's good, actually. Suits can be made and fitted rather quickly, so those can be done in no time. And I've already had a gown design for Rin in the works. I just need the materials and we'll be ready to go."

"Excellent." You nod. "What does it look like?"

"I can't give away the surprise!" Ushiyama grins and winks. "But I can guarantee you'll love it!"

"As long as it's not TOO revealing." You warn.

"Of course, of course."

"Anyways, Lillith, would you have any idea of who's going?"

"Well... the Tribunal will definitely be there, but apart from that, I'm not sure." Lillith sighs. "The idol business is a very fluid field. Whoever was big one year, might crash and burn the next. I've been out of the loop for a while so I'm not sure who'll be going."

"Really, the only people who would have the full guest list are the organizers, and I doubt they're in a giving mood." Jenner points out.

"All right, so before we adjourn this meeting, Lillith, I wanted to ask you something."

"Hm?" Lillith blinks. "What's the question?"

"From your personal experiences, what's your opinion of the Expo?"

Lillith seems to freeze, as she doesn't say anything for what felt like a very long time. It was as if she was remembering things she'd rather sooner forget.

"In my experience, the Expo is very much the equivalent of a whorehouse, with idols all coming to show off their prized idols like cattle." Lillith grunts. "It may be a necessity to the industry, but it's still a travesty."

With that, Lillith gets up from her seat and storms off.

"I think you made her mad." Ushiyama says unhelpfully.

Nah, they were never able to achieve the power of the original and since they were flashed cloned at the cost of a couple thousand dollars apiece, they needed to be programmed and thus have the personality of a potato.

I more worried that some Corp is out there killing 10,000 of them for a sick experiment.

"Aw damn..." You mutter to yourself as you get up from your seat to go after her. "Ushiyama, get started on those outfits. Jenner... just do whatever you do."

You swear you see Jenner shaking her head at you as you exit, but you're already out the door before you can make sure. Accessing the building's security net, you manage to track Lillith down to the break room, where she orders a Coke and chugs the whole can down in a couple of seconds. She then crushes the can, tosses it into the wastebin, and moves to order a fresh one.

"You know, drinking too much of that stuff isn't healthy." You say, announcing your presence.

"I find it calming whenever I'm stressed." Lillith says as she grabs her second can. "Sugar always makes me feel better."

"Look, Lillith, I know you're mad. If it's anything I said-"

"No, it's my fault, really." Lillith sighed and leaned back against the wall. "My last Expo.... I had a real bad experience. You didn't know, so I don't blame you or anything. It's just... ugh. I wanted to forget it."

Lililth then opens up the can and chugs it down, tosses the empty can away, and orders a third one.

"Don't worry, I usually get over it by the fourth of fifth can." She says.

"Look, Lillith, I won't try to pry into your life by asking what happened, but just understand, I'm always here if you want someone to talk to. It may not be today, but anytime you feel you want to."

Lillith snorts as she puts a hand up to her mouth, trying to contain her laughter. You're quietly glad that she wasn't chugging her can at that moment. Damn, it would've been messy.

"Did I say something funny?" You ask, confused.

"Ahahahahaha! N-no, it's just... Ahahahaha!" Lillith starts laughing uncontrollably. "All this irony. I mean, I'M supposed to be the one everybody talk to about their problems, and- Ahahahaha!"

Huh, it was weirdly ironic. But counselors were people too, and people weren't perfect. Finally, Lillith starts to calm down.

"Ah man, that really put things into perspective." Lillith shook her head and smiled. "Yeah... I think I should tell somebody about this. You have time right now?"

"Always." You say with conviction.

"Come on, take a seat." Lillith motions to the table and sits down, sipping her Coke.

You sit down and wait for Lillith to continue.

"Anyways," Lillith sighed, "so, a bunch of years back, I was a pretty decently successful idol. Had a fairly large following, and a few good performances under my belt. In my old company, the Producer organized his idols into three 'tiers', with the first tier being his most talented and popular idols, and the third tier being the least desirable ones. I was in the second tier, but on the edge of getting promoted to the first. My producer decided that I should take the lead in the Expo, and he brought me in addition to two of his first tier idols. So, that meant there was only one bodyguard to watch two performance idols. Naturally, our guard stuck close to the first tier idol."

You were getting an ugly feeling of what was going to happen next.

"Anyways, I'm slated to do our company's closing number. But, before that happened, I got cornered by a few rival idols. And... well..."

Lillith bites her lip.

"To put it in the most basic terms, they roughed me up. Tore up my dress and did everything their power to make me look as unpresentable as possible. My producer was fucking furious, not at the attackers, but at ME, because apparently it was totally my fucking fault that I had half-assed protection and got jumped in a 3v1 confrontation."

Lillith takes another long pull from her can.

"Well, after that, he demoted me to third tier. I responded by slugging him in face and quitting on the spot. Never liked that creep, anyways."

"And that's how you got to where you are now." You say.

"Pretty much." Lillith nodded. "I figured, if I could help other girls deal with their problems, it would help me deal with mine. It sorta worked, I guess."

"...thanks." Lillith gives you a warm, genuine smile. Something you don't recall her ever doing before. "I think I needed that."

"Well, glad to be of service." You chuckle and get up. "Anyways, I got work to do. Producer stuff, and all."

"Of course." Lillith nods. "Oh, and Producer."

"Yeah?" You stop at the door.

"Tell anybody else about this and I will crush your balls in a vice."

"Understood, ma'am."

I think she'll face off against her genetic superior a la Metal Gear. And in a somewhat cliche speech,

Cole could mention that she's loved despite her flaws while her foe is only loved as long as she is perfect, and will be discarded like trash if she's found wanting. All of this ending with Cole saying 3 magic words. I pity you.

You decide to check in with how the idols were dealing with the Captain's new training regimen. You head down to the danger room where you see you idols in the PT clothes running laps around the the room. However, the Captain programmed the the terrain to be the rockiest, most uneven and generally inhospitable to walking terrain ever. That, and it looked like the girls were easily carrying 50 pound packs on their backs.

Ahhhh, just like old times.

"Come on, faster maggots!" The Captain barks as your girls visibly struggle and groan at the effort.

Of course, Julie and Melissa did not seem to troubled by the weight. They both were unnaturally strong, after all. However, their movements were hampered by the bad terrain, which they hadn't really gotten used to dealing with, just yet. Cole was right behind them, obviously struggling but determined to keep up, you assume so as not to look bad in front of everybody. Meanwhile Morgan and Sparky were lagging behind, obviously not used to this level of physical training. Well, they were going to get used to it now, if they wanted to survive.

Surprisingly, or perhaps not surprisingly, it seemed that Rochelle was in the lead. While she may have lacked Julie and Melissa's strength, she certainly seemed to know how to get around the terrain.

"I guess you're right. She certainly is a gem." The Captain concedes when she sees you approach.

"Well, her father was mountain infantry." You reveal to her. "I wouldn't be surprised if he taught her a few tricks."

"Ah, makes sense." The Captain nods.

"So, what do you think of them?" You ask.

"They got a lot of potential." Captain says. "Despite what I tell them."

"Of course." You laugh. "Anything more specific?"

"Well, I think Julie and Melissa there will be the least of my problems. They're pretty much at the point they don't need boot anymore." Captain then turns to Morgan and Sparky. "Those two, while possessing some good skillsets, are abysmally below par in terms of physical performance. I intend to get them at least past the minimum Army standard."

"All right." You nod. "And Cole?"

"Iffy. Certainly skilled, but she's got a bit of a rebellious streak that I got to tamp down." The Captain remarks.

Not, yet. But really, we have decided to make her a team leader. And team leader sometimes have to make tough calls or follow orders they do not like or don't want to do. As a team leader, they may be receiving orders from us, but ultimately she is the one one the ground, right there and has to execute and act. Especially with her tomb background.

Luckily Cole has not ,as of now, been put into a situation like that. I just feel like if she was she might jump the gun on certain things or take things her own way and make it more difficult for us in the future. Hopefully, it doesn't come to that, but really it does not hurt to have a little discipline or be prepared. I know they aren't soldiers but they are killing people and facing real danger.

"All right maggots, that's enough running for one day!" The Captain barks. "Hit the showers and get some sleep. I expect you all to up bright and early tomorrow for more."

Relieved, the girls all drop their weighted packs and limp their way to the exit. You smile at them and give them a thumbs up for a good job as they pass you. The small smiles they give you prove that it was all worth it.

"Rochelle."

"Yes, Captain?" Rochelle stands at attention.

"I've already discussed this with you before, but are you absolutely sure that you want to participate in advanced training?" The Captain asks as she paces around Rochelle.

"Sir yes sir!" Rochelle says loudly and quickly. "I want to be the best, sir!"

"Good, then let's get started..."

I kind of think we should buy two of these:

VISR OPTICAL ENHANCER - 2000
A standard issue military visor that provides nightvision and IR vision modes, as well as realtime battlefield data projections.

For Rochelle and Cole as squad leads. That these might even be brought up to the tower should be factored in, since they're not weapons.

That happens, what? Once in blue-moon? It's nice sure. But I would like her start doing more than just salvage work. She's supposed to be some godly engineer. Lets see what she can come up with already.

>>
>>33532416

There's going to be missions where she can't bring that Javelin. And the times she does is most likely the only thing she'll be using at that time. Plus she doesn't need to carry all of her equipment to every engagement.

Something I personally would like to see would be something like a Mimetic Skin Gene Mod--would come really handy in clutch situations while being an awesome visual effect for stage shows. Useful for scouting, setting up ambushes, and pranking.

Says who? She should already be in cover at all times, and even if someone reason taking it off is so onerously long that it's somehow still magically an issue, I'm sure we can get Falynn to make modifications if it's that much of an issue to you.

Jesus Christ.

I know I am staying up way too fucking late when I start making this many mistakes. Off to bed for me.

The skub is all Merc's fault

He didn't even release MC's charsheet, how can you expect him to tell you more about the exo?
>>
>>33532596
>>33532636

Then we now have soldier who has to spend time, attention, and effort getting out of it. Even if that wasn't an issue the exo is a just big luxury piece of equipment, whose only real value is "increasing strength" which could be achieve in numerous other ways. And in a modern firefight, having more strength isn't really necessary. And if we are getting it for the "carry more stuff" trait, it would be better to just spread out the equipment also with the "Teamwork" trait our girls are getting from the training will enable all our girls to be somewhat proficient in using the equipment and fulfilling the roles of the others whose equipment they are carrying.
>>
>>33532674
You're asking /tg/ to think.
>>
>>33532674

Suggested that already earlier.

Folks seem to want unlimited typhoon.
>>
>>33532674

Girls who would be better off doing other roles than acting as Sparky's personal pack mules. And
"somewhat proficient" is an issue, considering that we're dealing with highly lethal EXPLOSIVES where not only ammunition is an issue, but possible collateral and friendly fire as well.

If it were any other type of equipment I'd agree, but not for Sparky.

Besides which, Julie and Melissa would disagree with you about the strength bit.
>>
>>33532705

Not only that, I want to use the Typhoon to its full potential without worrying about possible collateral and friendly fire.

Not having only one shot and thus avoiding the inevitable arguments of when it would be appropriate to use it is just a nice bonus.
>>
>>33532727

The backpack typhoon has two shots.

Also I think the idea of a backpack sized claymore and no collateral damage together is...wishful thinking.
>>
>>33532743

Sparky specifically has a skill that ensures no to minimal collateral damage for her explosive weapons. Considering that she apparently also has Infinite Explosive Works, I'm going to guess that collateral damage is going to be limited at worst in Sparky's hands.

>2x VISR systems purchased
>-$4000
>$15,400 remain.

"Okay, first things first." The Captain steps forward. "Hit me."

Without even asking why, Rochelle darts forward to try and land a punch. You almost swear you can see the Captain smirk before sidestepping impossibly fast and slamming her elbow into Rochelle's back, sending her falling lat on her face.

"Not bad. No hesitation. But your movements are predictable and that will get you killed. Now try again."

Rochelle picks herself back up and throws a punch, or at least tries to. The Captain effortlessly slaps her army away and plants her fist into Rochelle's chest, sending her flying away a few feet. Rochelle writhes on the ground in pain.

"That was just a love tap. If I'd been playing seriously, you'd be dead."

You're almost considering stepping in to stop this, but the Captain shoots you a look as if she knew what you were thinking, so you stay firmly planted where you are.

"Consider both yours and your enemy's strengths and weaknesses." The Captain continues as she paces around Rochelle. "I'm augmented, you are not. You're never going to beat me in a straight fight."

Rochelle finally picks herself back up, but remains kneeling on the ground as she tries to catch her breath.

"Did you hear what I just said, soldier?" The Captain asks, stepping closer.

"Crystal." Rochell grunts and she tosses a handful of simulated sand into the Captain's face. Though the Captain's eye were artificial and therefore couldn't be hurt by that attack, they still relied on visual data, and were blinded for a brief second.

Which was all Rochelle needed.

With a loud grunt, Rochelle swings the weighted pack she had taken off earlier and it connects with the side of the Captain's head, sending her reeling. The Captain drops to her knee, her head spasming a little.

"You know," she finally says, "that hit could have killed a normal person."

"But you're not a normal person, are you?" Rochelle retorted, dropping back to her knee as well.

"Exactly right." The Captain smiles and turns to you. "I like this one, Producer. She's a keeper."

Rochelle's smile is just the cutest thing ever.

>And that's it for tonight! As always, next thread is next week. Don't forget PJ Witches on Sunday and Gundam Build Fighters on Friday!

Well, it was good knowing you Rochelle.
>>
>>33532790

Wooo. Go Rochelle!

Thanks for running merc.

I really like Rochelle.

As for the exoskeleton, it's essentially like the one you see in Elysium. It's a simple hydraulic frame that boosts your strength, but otherwise provides no significant protection by itself.
>>
quick learner is an understatement
>>
>>33532816

Merc goes by significant opposition in purchasing.

If you've noticed in previous purchasing votes.
>>
>>33532815

How are milspec versions in idolruns, merc?
>>
>>33532815

Huh, why is it limited to tactical and ballistic vests then? Doesn't look like it'll limit the wearing of carapace on it.
>>
>>33532790
Rochelle still the best. Thanks for running, Merc.

>>33532815
Any that have armor?
>>
>>33532816
As >>33532829, there was significant enough dissent that I decided to not include it.
>>
>>33532843

If it has armor, then it'll pretty much be powered armor at that point.
>>
>>33532757
I want to see her rig some Grandstand's in a bunch of crowded places and see just how well her 'no collateral' perk works
>>
>>33532850
Well yeah, guess that's what I meant really. These threads run too damn late for my brain.
>>
>>33532860

Well obviously if she does something as immensely stupid as THAT it won't work. Because at that point we'll be asking for it.
>>
>>33532841
My guess is too much bulk that comes with carapace armor.
>>
>>33532841
Carapace is full body, which will interfere with the exo skeleton's movements.

>>33532837
>>33532843
There are armored milspec versions, you just need the right connections.
>>
>>33532843
>Any that have armor?

Likely.

You know how these things go.

Military use -> civilian use
>>
>>33532872
>There are armored milspec versions, you just need the right connections.

Whelp, those are the companies we're going for up in space.
>>
>>33532872
>you just need the right connections.
Well, lets go find some then. Oh wait, we'll be doing that soon.
>>
>>33532872

Oh yes merc.

Them visors can be brought up to space right?
>>
>>33532872
will the visor interfere with cole's powers? Like shorting out or something?
>>
>>33532872
Does P-san have Teamwork 1?

Also, cybernetics/genemods and facility upgrades list after the Expo?
>>
>>33532898
It turns out that Falynn is particularly skilled at converting most optics into innocuous looking glasses or shades. They'll generally escape scrutiny since image enhancing optics are actually rather common.

>>33532905
Cole generally has enough control over her power that she won't accidentally fry any electronics she's wearing.

>>33532936
Producer is a man of many skills. Pretty much the only things he CAN'T do are sing and dance.

Other upgrades will be coming soon.
>>
>>33532974
its already past but what would cole have thought if we selected her for this?
