You are Captain WILLIAM PIERCE, a combat rescue officer of the United States Air Force.

You've recently learned that from Colonel Kelsey about an impending operation to try and tip the balance of the war in Korea in the US and Japan's favor. It involved the US Navy and the IJN coordinating what would undoubtedly be the largest amphibious invasion in history since the Normandy landings.

However, this meant that a massive amount of preparation work would be needed. Landing zones needed to reconnoitered, defenses and infrastructure sabotaged, communications and logistics disrupted, and more.

This meant that special forces would have to infiltrate northern Korea and possibly even into China itself, and in order to do that they needed good insertion/extraction assets.

Which was where you came in. Your Ghost Hawk's stealth capabilities made it an invaluable asset for breaching enemy defenses.

Because of the high degree of danger involved in these types of missions, and the high demand for your Ghost Hawk, Kelsey left it up to your discretion on which missions you would want to perform.

Why are we responding to a distress signal in south east asia all the way from tokyo?

Thats more than a few hours flight time, by plane.

Can we even get that far?

>>
>>33546511
You decide to go check out the distress call coming out from the South China Sea. Normally, there shouldn't be any civilian traffic out there, considering there was a war going on. However, there were still some brave souls who dared venture out, whether because they were fearless or foolhardy. Then again, it could always be a trap. You never knew. You always had the option of bringing along the Comanche for some support, though.

However, in terms of actual naval support, the Japanese weren't willing to send ships out that far due to the risk of Chinese submarines prowling the area. At least, not unless they had confirmation it was an emergency and not a trap.

You decide that it would be a good idea to bring along the Comanche. Better that you bring it along and not need it, then leave it and end up needing it anyways.

You head over to the hangar where your helos are being kept. You see the Ghost Hawk already being prepped for takeoff, your aircrew making sure it was ready. On the other end, you could see the Comanche, still being swarmed by the DARPA techs. You head over to see what's going on when you run into the Comanche's pilot, Ugly.

"Hey, Ugly, long time no see!" You grin as you greet him.

"Yo, Captain!" Ugly laughs. "Army's gotta represent in this Navy and AF sideshow, right?"

"Whatever helps you sleep at night." You chuckle. "Hey, is the Comanche going to be ready yet?"

"You better ask the Doc about that." Ugly points to a workstation next to the Comanche. You narrow your eyes and gasp.

"Sokolov, you son of a bitch!" You laugh. "What the hell are you doing all the way out here!"

"Part of my new job!" Sokolov says happily, pointing to the DARPA ID badge pinned to his coat. "I'm essentially doing the same thing I've been doing in Russia!"

"So what are you guys doing with the Comanche now?" You ask.

"Oh, just some general upgrades. Very top secret, though."

"Can you just tell me if it's ready to go?" You ask.

"Oh, well, the modifications we're doing shouldn't affect it's flight performance!" Sokolov assures you. "We're just putting the finishing touches on!"

"Great." You nod. You see your witches also getting prepped as they load into their strikers. Since this was a rescue op, they were opting to load into their standard Strike Eagle strikers. Jetstream and Euclid follow their lead while Red jogs over to you.

"Hey, Cap!" She grins. "We flying out?"

"Of course." You nod.

"Oh, Sokolov!" Red hugs the scientist. "Long time no see!"

"Ah, Red!" Sokolov laughs. "It is good to see that you are well!"

"Hey, hey, so what's DARPA got you doing now, huh?" She asks.

"Sorry, my work is highly classified." Sokolov shakes his head. "I"m not cleared to disclose it just yet."

"Oh, fine." Red pouts.

"Come on, Red." You pat her on the head. "We're going to be taking off soon."

Red gives one last wave to Sokolov and you both jog over to the waiting Ghost Hawk.

"Hey, Captain." Bullseye greets you. "Just a quick question. I'm trying to plot a course to the distress call, but I need to pass it through you."

Bullseye hands you a map of the area, with two lines drawn. One was straight and drew a direct line from your base to the estimated position of the distress signal. The other curved out eastwards before circling back to the endpoint.

"We can take the direct route. Saves on time and fuel, but we'll be going directly over contested waters. I know we've got stealth, but who knows what we might run into out there."

"And I assume the longer route is safer?"

"Yeah, the eastern route goes over waters secured by the USN and IJN. No chance of running into anything hostile out there, but it'll definitely eat up more time and fuel to do so. I mean, midair refueling is not an issue, it's just time consuming, as you know."

"Let's take the long route." You say. "I don't want to get jumped by some asshole Chinese pilots, or worse, the White Butterfly."

"Got it."

Soon enough, both the Ghost Hawk and Comanche take off, with the witches following close behind, and your small group swings eastward. Your witches cruise at a steady speed, in order to conserve their magic reserves while the Ghost Hawk and Comanche take the lead. Every so often, you'd rendezvous with a tanker or passing cruiser that tops off your fuel reserves.

"So what do you think is out there?" Red asks. "Isn't this area supposed to be off limits to civilians?"

"Yeah, well, sometimes people don't listen." You shrug. "Could be anything from a corporate cargo ship to a simple family owned fishing boat. But I know that for a lot of people in this region, the ocean is their livelihood. They're willing to risk getting blown up by a hostile navy just to put food on the table."

"That's rough." Red frowns.

"And that's assuming this all isn't just one big trap." You point out.

"Yeah, well, we'll be ready for them, won't we?" Red grins, patting her sword.

"I see something." Ugly calls out. "Container ship."

Sure enough, on the horizon, you see the massive shape of what is unmistakably a civilian cargo ship.

"Bullseye, are you getting anything from it?"

"No, sir." He shakes his head.

"Try to hail them."

"Got it." Bullseye keys his radio to the international emergency frequency. "Unidentified cargo ship, this is the United States Air Force. Do you require assistance? Please respond."

There's nothing but silence.

"Maybe their radio's out?" Hoskins suggests.

"Got it." Bullseye nods and continues trying to get in contact over the radio.

"This is Ugly. I got visual on some small boats docked on the side of the cargo ship." He reports. "No identifying marks or anything."

"Euclid, you've got the best eyes. Do you see anything?" You ask.

"No movement on deck. Can't really see that well through the bridge windows at this distance, either." Euclid says.

Suddenly, a flare shoots up from the midsection of the ship.

"Well, looks like somebody is alive down there." Rex says.

"I got movement!" Euclid says. "I see people running on the deck. One's waving at us, but it looks like... he's being chased or something."

"Everybody move in! Me, Red, and Rex will board the ship to determine what's going on!"

"Roger!" Everybody affirms.

Your four witches swoop down onto the ship. Almost immediately, masked figures emerge from various points on the deck and begin opening fire with machine guns. The witches take evasive action and return fire in kind, though the dial back the power of the weapons to avoid causing unnecessary damage to the ship. None of you knew exactly what it was carrying, after all.

Meanwhile, the Comanche stays close to your Ghost Hawk as it hovers over the cargo ship's deck. Hoskins gives you the thumbs up and you, Red, and Rex quickly fast rope down. The Comanche and Ghost Hawk then pull away as the machine gun fire gets heavier.

"Janice, what does it look like up there?" You ask.

"At least a dozen armed contacts." Janice says, the bark of her assault rifle filling the background. "There might be more below decks or in the other boats. No sign of any crew, though."

"AKs and RPKs." Janice reports. "Not really helpful, since pretty much everybody this side of the Pacific uses those."

"Right, we're going to track down that crewman. Keep us covered."

"Got it."

You, Red, and Rex quickly but carefully make your way through the maze of cargo containers. While you were tempted to crack some open to see what was inside, you decided against it. You just didn't have time.

"Anybody got a visual on that runner?" You call out.

"I think he's running toward the bow of the ship." Tarin says. "Can't get close enough to help."

"Got it." The three of you pivot and head for the bow of the ship. However, move, you catch sight of a pair of the boarders setting up an Igla MANPADS system. Even with a shields, a witch would have a very bad day if they ended up taking a hit from one of those, much less the Comanche or the Ghost Hawk.

All three of your raise your assault rifles and fire, riddling the two men with bullets. The Igla launcher clatters uselessly to the ground and you kick it off the side of the ship to prevent somebody else from picking it off later. The launcher falls into the water with a loud splash and you continue on your way.

"Everybody, heads up! These guys got MANPADS, so keep moving! Don't give them a clear shot!"

"Gee, as if we weren't doing that already." Euclid quips.

You keep forging ahead, until you see movement. Up ahead, you can see three figures struggling. Two masked and uniformed men were wrestling with what looked to be a crewman. The crewman was yelling and cursing in what sounded like Japanese, while his two assailants remained silent.

But why the cargo ship?

There's plenty of other high value targets in the area, and if they can get to a ship without being noticed they could hit the Japanese shore without much trouble.

So who are these people and why this ship instead of so many others?

"Red, go get them."

"With pleasure." Red grins as she draws her sword. In a flash, she covers the handfuls of meters between her and the assailants in the blink of an eye. In the second blink, you see to masked heads floating in the air before toppling to the ground alongside their bodies. Red then expertly flicks the blood off her blade and sheathes it.

Jeez, she wasn't kidding when she said Jetstream would teach her how to use that.

"You could've at least left one of them alive..." You sigh.

"Jeez, Cap, you should've said so!" Red shakes her head.

The Japanese crewman, covered in blood from Red's attack clambers up to his feet and backs up against the railing. You can't really tell what he's saying, but it's cleared he was extremely scared.

"Whoa, hey, calm down there." You say, lowering your weapon and raising your hands to show you weren't a threat, and point to the American flag on your shoulder patch. "We're not here to hurt you. We're AMERICAN, see? We're here to help! Can you speak English?"

The crewman visibly calms down at the sight of the patch, but still speaks quickly.

"Red, are you catching any of that?"

"Yeah." Red nods. "Apparently these guys came out of nowhere and boarded their ship. They don't seem interested in the cargo, though. They were more focused on capturing the crew."

"Does he know where they are?"

Red shoots a quick question to the crewman The crewman mutters more Japanese and shakes his head.

"How many others?"

"Nine total, including him." Red says.

You frown. Nine sailors was a criminally small crew to run a ship this size. Then again, you suppose that there weren't a lot of people willing to bet their lives in these waters, especially in a big target like this."

"All right, tell him to stay where he is. As long as the witches can see him, he'll be safe." You say.

And that's just the known combatants, without throwing in someone from left field.

"All right, we'll go check out their boats, then." You say. "But first..."

You bend down and pick up one of the severed heads and pull the mask off. While you weren't an expert on telling a person's ethnicity just by looking, you could definitely tell that the man was an Asian. Whether he was Chinese or Korean or Vietnamese or whatever, you had no idea. The only things you could think of right now as that they were either very well equipped pirates, or Chinese special forces sent here for a particular objective.

You, Red, and Rex quickly move down the port side of the ship, where you see the boarders' boats attached to the side of the ship like parasites. At first glance, they looked to be simple fishing boats. However, you could see that the had much more powerful engines, enough to catch up to a freight like this. You also see some armor plating and areas where you could easily mount heavy weapons. These boats were made for fighting. You see ladders connected, which would allow you to get down to the boats.

"Rex, you cover the top. Me and Red will go down to investigate." You say.

"Got it." Rex nods.

Both you and Red slide down the ladder to the first of the two boats. A quick search the main cabin shows that there's nobody inside. However, you see a bunch of documents that you grab and stuff into your pack. Perhaps the spooks could make sense of them.

"Cozy." Red remarks.

"Let's keep moving." You say.

The two of you then hope over the second boat. Overhead, the gun exchange is still going. You see a few missiles flying about as well, but thanks to the warning, your witches know what to look out for. Higher up, the Ghost Hawk orbits seemingly lazily in the air.

(cont)
>>
>>33551179

In the second boat, there are two guards that Red easily dispatches. Inside you find three more crew tied up in the cabin. a quick interrogation of them reveals pretty much the same thing the first crewman you rescued said. None of them know why they're being attacked, nor do they know who is doing the attacking.

Finally, the shooting stops.

"Um, Captain, we have a problem." Janice says.

"What's going on up there?" You ask.

"It looks like the boarders have found the rest of the crew and are holding them hostage in the bridge." Janice says. "Apparently they want us to let them go or they'll kill the hostages."

"Can you take them out?" You ask.

"Well, between me, Tarin, Jetstream, Euclid, and the others, most definitely." Janice responds. "But without civilian casualties? That's pushing it."

"How many hostiles left?"

"Janice, stall them. Do whatever you can. Sweet talk them if you have to. Whatever you do, they cannot leave that bridge!" You say. "Me, Red, and Rex will try to assault it. Tarin, can you hide yourself so you can help us engage them on foot?"

"Roger." Tarin says.

Up above, you can see Jance, Jetstream, and Euclid hovering in front of the bridge. Both Jetstream and Euclid have their weapons drawn, but Janice has hers slung to to her side in an effort to appear nonthreatening. You can't hear what she's saying, but you know she has to be trying her best to keep their attention.

"How are we going to do this?" Red asks. "Attack them from above or below? Or some combination of both?"

You think on it. You're sure all of the hostiles' attention would be drawn to the witches, which were the primary threat. You doubt they even know that you're on the ship. They probably wouldn't be expecting an attack from below decks. However, the entrances were limited and cramped, and it would be very easy to get caught in a ambush. On the other hand, you could try attacking from above by going rappelling through the windows. You'd have wider options to enter, but you'd literally be entering directly into the line of fire of now only the hostage takers, but your own witches behind you, too.

"We're going to breach from below." You whisper to your team.

"Sounds good, Captain." You hear Tarin say from behind.

"Damnit, Tarin, can you announce when you arrive?" You sigh. "You nearly gave me a heart attack there."

"Sorry. Habit." Tarin disengages her cloaking ability. "I assume you want me and Red up front?"

"You got your invisibility and Red has her shield." You nod. "You take out whoever is watching the entry. Me and Rex will be right behind you."

"Got it." Tarin nods.

Fortunately, there only seems to be one man watching the stairs up to the bridge, who Tarin manages to easily take out. Just like Red, she doesn't even bother trying to take the guy alive. One slash across the throat and he was done.

You all stack up at the door. You carefully open the door just a crack, only enough to see inside. You see the remaining five crewmen tied up and forced to stand up front at the windows as human shields. There were seven armed and masked men with them, each with their weapons pointed out the windows toward the witches. As if those peashooters they were holding would make a difference.

"Janice, how are things going?" You ask. "We're in position to assault."

"I think I can get them to surrender." Janice says. "I've told them that the IJN is already en route, so they have nowhere to go."

"These might be the type of guys who don't want to be taken alive." You point out. "And right now, we're hell of a lot closer to China than Japan. For all we know THEY'RE stalling for reinforcements."

"All right, Janice, you got five minutes to do it." You say. "But if we sniff that something is up, we're moving in, got it?"

"Y-yes, Captain." Janice says.

From here, you can hear the leader of the hostiles trying to negotiate with Janice. He speaks in heavily accented, slightly broken English. You can't quite fully hear him, but he's demanding safe passage to his boats. However, his voice is wavering, and you can tell he's starting to sweat under the pressure.

"Boss, I got hostiles incoming!" Ugly warns. Enemy helos several kilometers out!"

"What are we looking at?" You ask.

"Six contacts total. Looks like two gunships and four transports. I got stingers loaded so I can engage them if you give me the go."

You wonder if the hostiles knew reinforcements were coming or not. There didn't seem to be any indication they did. Maybe Janice could get them to surrender before those helos got there. You're afraid that if Ugly begins the attack, the hostage takers might catch wind of it and panic.

"Roger that!" Ugly says happily. "C'mon, sis, arm stingers!"

Tarin activates her power and charges in eliminating two guards. Red follows close behind, swinging her sword out and slicing another hostile in half at the waist.

At this point, the rest of the hostiles were beginning to catch on that something was very wrong. However, three more are taken out between you and Rex as you burst in, assault rifles barking.

The only surviving hostile is the leader, who manages to take cover behind a control console. However, he's now completely surrounded, and had no hostages for leverage. He was pretty much fucked.

You stop to think. There's 10 people, with 9 crew and 1 prisoner to worry about. Your Ghost Hawk couldn't really carry that many extra people, at least not without going dangerously over the weight limit.

Then again, the crew could probably take the ship or one of the fast boats and try to make for friendly waters. Or hope the IJN arrives before the Chinese do.

"Hey, can you drive those small boats down there?" You ask the ship's captain, which you could tell apart by his fancier uniform.

"U-um yes." The captain says in fairly decent English. "The principles are quite the same... but why?"

"Staying on this boat's too dangerous. The Chinese already attacked it once, and they'll probably come back. We have no idea when the IJN is going to get here, so it's better we vacate the area first."

"Y-yes, but what about the cargo?" He says.

"What about it?" You raise an eyebrow.

"We're carrying food from the Phillipines. War has hurt our country's food supply rather badly,.."

"And you were thinking you could make a big profit off the demand?" You raise an eyebrow.

"N-no! Nothing like that!" The captain stammers. "It's just that w-we thought requesting a military escort would make us targets!"

Well, as you've learned, having no escort just makes you EASY targets." You sigh.

"Please, this food is an important strategic resource!" The captain says.

>Fine, we'll make sure it gets to Japan.

"Fine, we'll make sure it gets to Japan." You sigh. "But at the first sign of trouble, you guys head for the boats and get the hell out, cargo or not. You got that?"

"I understand." The captain nods and turns to his crew. "Okay, everybody, let's get this ship moving again! Engines at full power!"

With that, the crew gets to work as they man their stations. Soon enough, the the ship begins to groan and rumble as it moves under its own power again.

"Jetstream, you got an ETA on those reinforcements?"

"The IJN is sending a couple of destroyers and cruiser to rendezvous us. There's also a squadron of F-14s coming in to provide air cover. The F-14s will be in five minutes, but it'll be another thirty for the ships."

"All right." You nod. "Bullseye, Ugly, you guys see anything?"

"I see surface ships coming from the west, but they're not moving too fast. Don't seem too keen on going out into deep water." Ugly says. It makes sense, since Chinese ships didn't have good blue water capability. "I can slow em down, if you want."

>Send Ugly to interdict the Chinese ships.

"Just stay close to the ship, Ugly." You say. "Our objective is to protect the ship, not to go attack others."

"Roger that." Ugly sighs.

Suddenly, a dreadful and familiar shape zooms through the sky, and you realize that it's the White Butterfly. You wonder how the hell it got there, and whether it was making a habit of chasing you, but you notice that it just lazily circles in the air. Up that high, she probably couldn't see what was going on. Everybody was either too low or stealthed to be picked up on radar, and she sure as hell wouldn't get a clear visual at that altitude.

>Have your witches ambush her before she realizes what's going on.

You decide to lay it safe and just wait for the F-14s to arrive to reinforce. However, it seems like the White Butterfly was thinking of playing it safe as well, as the moment the F-14s show up on radar, she bolts, hitting afterburners and streaking away.

Oh well, at least she wouldn't be trying to snipe at you or anything this time.

The F-14s finally arrive, and at point it seems like the Chinese have had enough. Ugly reports that the Chinese ships have begun to turn back, and shortly after, the IJN flotilla arrives to take charge. After some refueling and a rest period to let your witches get some of their magic back, you all head back to base.

---

A few days later, you're called into Kelsey's office. You note that he has a grim expression on his face.

"I something wrong, sir?"

"Sit down, Pierce. You're going to need to." Kelsey sighs. "That prisoner and the intel you got when you rescued that cargo freighter proved to be very helpful."

"What happened?"

"It seems that they were Chinese-sponsored pirates, sent to find Japanese civilian ships and kidnap their crews for ransom. Or at least, that was one of the objectives."

"There's something more?" You raise an eyebrow.

(cont)
>>
>>33554362
"Further interrogation investigation of the boats revealed this." Kelsey slips you a picture of a vial of white powder. A biohazard symbol is prominently displayed over it.

"Sir, you don't mean-"

"We found vials of anthrax hidden aboard the ship." Kelsey says grimly. "Given what the cargo was, there's no doubt that they intended to kidnap the crew, replace them, and taint the cargo with anthrax."

"That's terrible." You blink. "Isn't that illegal?"

"Of course, the Chinese will never admit that they condoned the use of biological weapons. That's why they used intermediaries to deliver it." Kelsey sighed. "Fortunately, our boys in the lab managed to trace where this particular batch came from."

"Is that an offer of a mission, sir?"

"I'm always taking volunteers." Kelsey nodded. "What do you say? Help get a team deep into China and destroy some weapons of mass destruction?"

Over the past six months it's been the same fucking narrative. Katyafags butthurt that people dare to not like what they don't like. >>33554950
>The fact that you keep bitching about it only further solidifies how I feel both about you and the character.
You're not helping matters any...
>>
>>33554949
You know I really can't help but put some blame for all of that on Ghost. Really the pacing for that quest is god awful and his refusal to just let it end...yep.
>>
For those complaining about PJs being off mission, it's not uncommon for PJs to accompany SF squads into the field if they expect casualties, or if they need to evac a VIP.

Plus, you know, world war and all that. Yadda yadda.
>>
>>33555000
Indeed, PJ's and the 160th SOAR being the taxi service of the coalition SOF world, its pretty normal for them to accompany teams in, they are support forces for behind the lines work.
>>
>>33554998

To be fair, yes. The pacing has stagnated, and I've been called out on it and fully intend to fix it.

I don't know if that's worth much to you or not, but I figured I needed to say it.
>>
>>33554411
Well that got wildly off-topic.

Thanks for the thread Merc, I'm fine with the current schedule as is but I don't mind if you moved to Thursday.
>>
>>33555051
>>33554998

Honestly, i think the pacing's fine. It's an actual story, not just a movie. There's arcs, sections, slow pot-boilers, with heaps of juicy character development and setting information in the process.

The only annoying thing is the slow threads that are just once a week, but I guess that's life.
>>
>>33555051
Ghost, those first 25 threads, go and reread them, because the pacing in them was fucking excellent, if you could get things back to like that, then it would be much better.

There's your problem, you don't read the quest, so of course you don't know about the character development that has been going on.
>>
>>33555051
Honestly, at this point you should really try to clamp down on the waif wars. I'm getting sick of seeing people imply that apparently me liking Katya automatically makes me a shitstain, or seeing others think that respond that Icefags are shitstains or fucking whatever. Nobody seems to want to enjoy the quest anymore and instead it's all about fiefdoms built around their waifus.
>>
>>33555168
to be honest anon, theres been not a lot of development considering how many threads theres been since then

>>33555170
>Honestly, at this point you should really try to clamp down on the waif wars
indeed, they are becoming actively detrimental and toxic to the quest
>>
>>33555170
You're being incredibly dramatic about the very thing you're bitching about. There's plenty of people who read the quest for more than just waifus.

The people who whine the loudest about their particular waifu are generally the ones who whine the most about every single waifu vote, because they are afraid of and angry over not getting what they want.
>>
>>33555183
>theres been not a lot of development considering how many threads theres been since then

Took my words. There hasn't been any real development and anytime there seems to be it gets shutdown by other bullshit. Be it players or Ghost himself.
>>
>>33555170

I probably should, yeah. I'd have liked to have left the actual outcome till the epilogue thread, but I think you guys are right, and they're becoming an issue that's not doing anyone any good.

That said I can't promise that even when I do figure out how to get this sorted, it'll be instant.
>>
>>33555237
>That said I can't promise that even when I do figure out how to get this sorted,
But Ghost, you already have it figured out: harem end, all girls best girls
>>
>>33555250

Pull a wheel of time? THe girls just decide amongst themselves "We're gonna share and fuck your opinion on the subject."

Might could work. Probably won't happen this week though.
>>
>>33555237
in most things, things usually end up 'routelocked' (using VN terms) before the story ends and if there's some sort of stalemate, they find ways to break it.
>>
>>33555237
If that's what you wanted then you shouldn't have let the pacing gone to hell. Perhaps if this was still early on with it's pacing then it would have a chance of doing so but with the state of the quest now. Yeah, unless something happens... Well really nobodies going to be happy no matter what so don't brother trying to find that answer.
>>
>>33555267
well the big 3 already seem to have done that since the battle of berlin and them giving Fronk their tokens and their interactions at barin
>>
>>33555237
I'm don't even mind if you leave a solid conclusion to the end, just...do something about the constant shit flinging about waifus that seem to pop up anywhere. I don't mind friendly competition or whatever, but it's obviously long past that.
>>
>>33555119

Blame that on the writing speed.

It's a quest, anon. That means the story progresses at maybe 2-3 pages of text a week.

That's the issue, not writing style.
>>
>>33555267
>THe girls just decide amongst themselves "We're gonna share and fuck your opinion on the subject."
They already seem to have done that, they just haven't admitted it to themselves yet.
>>
>>33555197

Exactly. A few anons saying things about the waifu thing is their problem. No skin off my balls if a few of the bicker, I've enjoyed the ACTUAL quest, not a few assholes squabbling between the posts.
>>
>>33555299
Well the writing speed hasn't changed from when things were before, during Alaska and shortly after, and that had much better pacing
>>
>>33555237

I don't mind it getting spun out. Butthurt anons aside, it's feasible that that's how it's happened. Frank's caught between a rock and a hard place, has no real incentive to change things up fine, and there's a fucking war on keeping his mind on other stuff. Him not pushing a button is hardly hard to belive.
>>
>>33555296

That's an anon problem, not a Ghost problem. He's not a porn writer, he's not here to indulge their fap sessions. If they want to fling their shit that's their problem.
>>
>>33555212

In ghost's defence we have been getting a certain amount of development with the characters over the past several threads. Perhaps the pacing is a tad on the slow side, but it has been happening.

>>33555346
>over the past several threads.
Indeed it has been getting better, problem is we're still on fucking Barin doing fucking nothing.
>>
>>33555321

That just had more timeskips, and set-peice battles. We've been getting loads of character nuance, speculation on future stuff, technological development, fights every other thread.

The only thing we don't have is the war and huge battles, but consider Berlin was as awesome as it was, I don't consider that to be much of an issue.

If anything, it's the same problem SWQ had. Some people want setting dump, some want air fights, some want BOUNCe, some want waifu stuff.
>pacing is bad
Is code for
>you're not focusing enough on the stuff that I prefer most.
>>
>>33555344
romance is a part of anything connected to Strike Witches and a /tg/ quest trait in general. He might have been much better off doing an Ace Combat quest, all the plane actions but no girls to muck things up.
>>
>>33555372

Aye, we gotta get off this rock.

But not before that still gets going.
>>
>>33555372

>doing nothing
Fuck off. We have not.
>>
>>33555377
>>pacing is bad
>Is code for
>>you're not focusing enough on the stuff that I prefer most.
no its code for he's not meeting that balance of downtime/development/buildup/action/climax/repeat well, its stagnating at the downtime/development phase with no outlet nor progression
>>
>>33555377
So Frank's on namek trying to learn his bankai?

But seriously, SWQ's issue was that for a while, it was nothing but rather crappy hijinks caused by one part lazy writer and one part moronic voters that kept on going for it.
>>
>>33555370

Honestly, every time waifustuff comes up I get all heartbroken because saying Yes to one witch means saying No to half a dozen others. Poor girls.
>>
>>33555378
>Ace Combat quest
I still want Merc to run that, to think he was going to do that instead of VMQ2 but let anon choose...

Damnit Merc run Ace Combat Quest already.
>>
>>33555402
which is why harem end is best end, all girls are best girls and we should say yes to all of them
>>
>>33555393

Rubbish. We've had plenty of cool reveals. Climax doesn't have to be just huge battles or dead people, we've been getting awesome little smaller cycles at Barin.

And any good story doesn't diminish itself by having a slightly quieter period, scale wise. The pacing's fine, it's just not quite as set-piece as action movies typically have it.
>>
>>33555404
Lets be honest here, if Merc had chosen F-86 Sabre/Mig-15s for the quest planes, Anon would have jumped all over it. But props? Big whoop.
>>
>>33555423
even though SW89 is basically one big homage to cheesy-bad 80's movies?
>>
>>33555402
They are not real girls, and they would be able to MOVE ON if they were.

Yeah, they might be sad about it, but the impression I've gotten from all the girls is that they'd be happy if Frank Bishop survived the war. Getting picked by him would be icing on the cake.

>>33555414
Harem end is the dumbest end
>>
>>33555432

I wouldn't describe it like that. It had some COMPONENTS of it, or at least it occasionally riffs on them for specific moments, but I wouldn't say they're cheesy 80s. Cheesy 80s was the way it was because it tapped into something beyond 80s, something fundamental.

SW89 isn't a homeage, but it draws in some comparable elements.
>>
>>33555429
indeed, the whole prop planes thing was a massive turn off

I still want him to run ace combat quest though
>>
>>33555454
>Harem end is the dumbest end
only if your not manly enough and up to the challenge of winning them all
>>
>>33555454
>They are not real girls, and they would be able to MOVE ON if they were.
I know that, but still.

>>33555459
SW89 just about IS ace combat quest.
>>
>>33555473
hmm yes, so manly, a harem of women that dont actually exist
>>
>>33555489
>SW89 just about IS ace combat quest.
nah, its more SoL around the fringes of a war with plane funtimes everynow and then
>>
>>33555489
>I know that, but still.

And right here is one of the biggest issues with /tg/. Too many damn bleeding hearts around.
>>
>>33555495
Dude, stop looking for realism and real life in fictional works of entertainment...
>>
>>33555502

Well, yeah, it's also not a computer game.

Actually, I'd compare it more to a Tom Clancy novel. Awesome action scenes, but there's a lot of padding leading up to them and after them as well.
>>
>>33555473
I don't even mind a harem end and I think that's a dumb response.
>>
>>33555489
there's signs of it but at the same time he has to deal with excess stuff, mainly the SW stuff/witches, which are out of Ghost's comfort zone
>>
>>33555514
>Actually, I'd compare it more to a Tom Clancy novel. Awesome action scenes, but there's a lot of padding leading up to them and after them as well.
dunno why I didn't think of it like that before but thats a fucking amazing comparison, fits brilliantly
>>
>>33555516
Don't let anons blathering influence you anon, down that path lies shitposting.
>>
>>33555513
It's not a matter of realism, I just hate harem ends because they are lazy and they appeal to the sort of person who actually likes shit like Infinite Stratos.
>>
>>33555533

I'm afraid I'm just echoing someone else, that described it as Strike Witches meets Ace Combat meets Red Storm Rising.
>>
>>33555585
only if they are poorly done, and most are

I've faith in Ghost to make it entertaining and worthwhile
>>
>>33555618
Why risk ruining the story to appease some angry faggot who just wants to have his personal fantasies come to pass?
>>
>>33555778
why do the same with a single waifu?

every argument you are using and will use can be thrown back in your face
>>
>>33555940
There's literally no reason why the girls would be willing to share outside of writefaggotry. There's plenty of reasons shown IN THE ACTUAL THREADS that the girls don't want to share. Ice wants Frank, but doesn't think she deserves him and even thinks Slider is best for him. Slider thinks the opposite. Katya has NEVER shown any interest of sharing other than one time she was drunk during some non-canon writefaggotry. That was it (and if anything, it was only with Ice, Slider and Katya barely talk to eachother in the threads).
>>
>>33556037
>the girls don't want to share
okay
>Ice wants Frank, but doesn't think she deserves him and even thinks Slider is best for him
uhh wut

you just contradicted yourself there pretty big...
>>
>>33556037
>non-canon writefaggotry.
Uhh hate to break it to you but...
>>
At this point a good conclusion to the waifu wars is all that matters in regards to them. Despite me being on the Slider-train I'm fine with whoever among the three winning, hell harem end would be fine at this point, as long as the actual conclusion to the waifu wars is a good one. waifu wars = good conclusion don't really go together well, do they? The recent pacing has been the biggest hangup but we've been able to learn details about witching or find out what happened from the end of the war till now and all of that is as fun as fighting. Also since Nixon showed up last thread one would think the pacing would speed up or we have gotten to a point in the story where stuff is gonna start happening again. Long as we aren't stuck at Barin till nearly the end of the year we can suffer the pacing. Hell we have the Paris trip Katya coming up, that'll be a nice change for a few threads and perhaps it'll even signify the end to the Barin act.

>>33556037
>some non-canon writefaggotry.
Isn't the writefaggoytry canon unless said otherwise? I apologize, forgot what Ghost said about that. Also Ice, Slider, and Katya barely talking is only what we, Fronk, see. That's the problem with a single POV but since we only have one thread a week changing that on a frequent bases would be dumb. Though I do seem to recall somewhere that Katya is a bit removed from the squadron. Again I could/probably am mis-remembering things despite doing a reread two months ago.
>>
>>33556245
I suppose having reading comprehension is a bit to much to ask from the likes of you.
>>
>>33556275
You went directly from explicitly explaining how the girls would never share, then immediately give examples of the girls sharing.

I ain't that anon but bro, your argument, it fucking sucks.
>>
>>33556286
>examples of them sharing

Point them out, because I gave no examples of them actually wanting to share. I did, however, give examples about how really, the only one who even considered sharing was Katya while she was drunk. Ice doesn't want to share Frank, she wants him for herself, but doesn't think she deserves to have him and always insists that Slider is better for him, and Slider points to Ice.

Again, reading comprehension, you have exactly none of it.
>>
All this talk about all three main girls and not one mention of super stalker
>>
>>33556332
>Point them out, because I gave no examples of them actually wanting to share.
yeah you did.

> Ice wants Frank, but doesn't think she deserves him and even thinks Slider is best for him
thats sharing...
>>
>>33556352
That's not sharing. That's her acknowledging that she wants Frank, but she doesn't think she should have him, and in fact thinks that Slider is better for Frank than she is. There is nothing in there that suggests she wants to share with Slider.

You are a retard.
>>
Would the both of you retards shut the fuck up already and go be virgin sperglords elsewhere.
>>
>>33556463
Waifufags literally ruin everything.
