>>33618720>helmetBut then how can the enemy see that they're being bested by a girl?Well, I guess maybe a helmet is OK if the entire upper torso is naked.
The last time this was brought up, people were, I'd say, 60-70% okay with it. At least the overall idea behind it wasn't too bad.
>>33618750That would be "Witch champion", then, right?A paladin is usually ALWAYS associated with a religious warrior.
>>33618739>Wears gauntlets>Tells the vials apart by feel
>>33618739I feel that the background is salvageable. The ideas are okay it's just the writer needs to be more coherent than what is show in the image.
>>33618689>Claymores>hotnessDid you forget the part about how seeing them naked is boner genocide?
>>33618606Make them like nazghul.-They don't wear the armor of dead paladins, they ARE dead paladins brought back to life by an occult practice, in order to re-balance the universe after overwhelming surges of positive energy. Sometimes, Paladins are granted their powers in life with the tradeoff that they MUST become Witchpaladins in death, in the belief that they can do more good in their life than they can bring death in their twilight. -Witchpaladins are armored casters that wade into battle in thick, intimidating armor, and while they do often carry weapons on their person, they prefer to use touch-based spells and grapples to hold and magically choke their targets to death. -Most importantly, find some name, ANY OTHER NAME than 'witch paladins.'
>>33618606Throw a house at her, that's how we dealt with witches back in my day.
Oh look, its this thread again.
>>33618781It could be more like a very powerful knight, like the Knights of the Round Table or the Peers of Charlemagne.Personally, I'd change the name, make the armor a little less slutty (god knows a girl in armor is hot anyway), and maybe focus on enchanting the weapons and knowing a few offensive spells. Sort of like a regular paladin, but instead of healing and smiting, it's offensive stuff.
>>33618819Just because they have a threehole doesn't mean you can discriminate, pleb
I feel like maybe massive armor on your arms and legs, you know, the limbs which are the direct source of your mobility is a really bad idea. Why slow yourself down considerably with pieces of full-plate armor, but leave your torso completely exposed?
>>33618845That seems to be the idea. They're supposed to be some kind of super-spellsword, from the looks of it.
The bit about mixing potions in battle is dumb, the only justification I could see is that these potions may be volatile and degrade or explode if kept for more than a few minutes...but you could just fluff it so that most of the time she's just got potions already made and maybe 2-4 vials ready to be quickly combined to make some high damage thing...not her entire alchemy kit on her backconceal the ass, ditch the corset for something not retardedaren't PALADINS supposed to fight for a deity?
Change the name to "Paladin Arcanist"Entire motivation is replaced with a study of magic for tools to better serve their respective god against the forces of darkness and heretics. No armor taken from fallen paladins, that is heretical. Necromancy is practiced as a form of restoration and redemption for the dead, rather than a foul butchery of corpses of fallen innocents. They only call upon the dead as an absolute last resort for those who have fallen, and they only restore the guilty for the sake of penance. Potion mixing pouch is fine, but I'd try to make it less "LOOK AT ME, I'M ALSO AN ALCHEMIST" and more "I need some soothing potion on the frontline, and I know how to make these crappy first aid salves at a moment's notice". I really don't know why they need to die young here. They have a wide variety of healing magic, high degrees of weapon proficiency, healing items they make rapidly, and are quick to fight for those around them. Even taking dangerous missions doesn't seem like it'd be a necessary catalyst for "very common" deaths at young ages. Also, that armor really, really needs a do over.
>>33618606Haven't you done this thread before..> ?
>>33618886That was only as of 4th edition. Technically you could fluff it so that they're in it for doing good like in 3rd edition. Maybe they could have vials that are components to something explosive or acidic, and when thrown together they can use them offensively in battle? That prevents enemies from using them, as they won't know which vials to use or mix.
>>33618909Not in the last two years, no.
I import witchers instead.
>>33618606I think the concept's neat>Order of Knights>Scours the land in search of monsters to slay and people to aid>Trained in various forms of combat, magic, medicine, to be effective all around>Gear is passed downGive the chick a full suit of armor and change the name, even a change as minor as "Witch Knight" would be better, but at that point they're just Witchers

This looks a lot like a Witcher, just with stupid stupid armour, and a gender restriction.Make her wear practical clothes, and rewrite the content with a bit more objectivity, and you wouldn't really need to change any of the content at all.
>>33618606>using the armor that failed to save the last guy>The complete lack of armor on her chest, head, or thighsSuddenly the dying young bit makes sense.
>>33619281Warlock sounds like it should be wearing full plate.
>>33619567Protip: Witcher's already have a gender restriction.
>>33619459Except the heavier armor covers non vital bits. It still leaves the vitals as exposed as a Witcher's standard wear.
>>33619567>and a gender restriction.Witchers are restricted to men, and the fact that it has a female with "brethren" used implies its multigender.
>>33619574Warlock Paladin maybe. Warlock in general? Maybe just a chest plate and robes.
>>33619531Not really. Witches draw their power from nature and spirits without the sort of reverence or fervor that a paladin uses to draw power from their diety.A paladin getting their power>OH THANK YOU! I AM NOT WORTHY!A witch getting their power>Oh cool, maybe a little faster next time yeah?
>>33619590You know what I mean. It's a different restriction. All they really differ in is that Witchers kill monsters and sometimes have to help people in the process, and these ones help people out and sometimes have to kill monsters in the process. That, and the armour. If she had the sort of light, practical armour that makes sense for a person who wanders around all day carrying all their own possessions, but sometimes has to fight, it would be fine. And they can even keep the armour legacy thing if they all have a sensible gambeson or jack-of-plate, weighted up in whatever pieces of armour were their legacy. Mostly arm/leg stuff, since chest/head stuff is less likely to fit and more likely to have been made useless by whatever killed the last one.
>>33619665>Not really. Witches draw their power from nature and spirits without the sort of reverence or fervor that a paladin uses to draw power from their diety.Witches usually worship a deity. Sometimes, nature or a spirit being.Paladins usually worship a deity or just champion a good cause.Sometimes life and angels/spirits get thrown in. Not very different. Also,>without the sort of reverence or fervor that a paladin uses to draw power from their diety. No clue where this is coming from.
Feeling a bit like a witcher, so let's start shall we.First off, the name. Witch Paladin just doesn't roll off the tongue as well. Also, inherently oxymoronic. Witch Knight sounds better, as one Anon already mentioned.>The ArmorNo corsets. I know they look sexy, but that's just it. That's all they're used for. Women in armor are sexy enough as it is. Replace the corset with a leather chestpiece with metal plates engraved with runes. Keep the asymmetrical look of the cloak and pauldron, include a hood. AND FOR FURTHER DIETY'S SAKE, GET A HELMET.Leather gauntlets with metal plates on the upper half, covering the tops of the forearm and hand. Defensive, yet allows mobility. Same with the boots and leggings. Keep the tabard, but extend the leather armor up to meet with the chestpiece. Also, you had me at Legacy Armor. Keep that as part of the fluff. >The OverviewSacrificing themselves mind, body, and soul to their deity, Witch Knights walk a path shrouded in darkness in order to be able to see the light of guidance. They make deals with dark spirits and monsters to wield powerful magics, with their end goal being to purify all involved for their god's sake. They use their wicked energies to protect , and when a sacrifice is required their own lives are put on the chopping block. Because of their God / Goddess' sphere of influence, most Witch Knights are female. Men are welcome to join their ranks, becoming Juggernauts. >Potion Mixi-NOPE. Axe it. Mixing potions mid-combat is risky and dangerous, better to have a few vials on that front belt to chug in the heat of danger. >MagicAs stated with overview, Witch Knights delve into dark secrets and make pacts to wield spells and energies that they'll later attempt to purify in their God's name. Any spells that actively hurt one not involved in their quest are excluded except for a select few Witch Knights, such as those that practice Necromancy.
>>33618606Sounds like a female witcher. I'd drop the heavy armor for medium-light and salvaging from dead comrades.I would then choose Alchemy or Magic as the other thing they have going for them. They can use Alchemy to improve their martial prowess for a short time or heal, or magic for buffs/versatility. They can choose to use one or the other, but both would be spreading them out.The name is a tricky one, though. But Witches are associated with both alchemy and magic, so "Witch" can stay. "Witch Blade" is a possibility.I would probably rework their cause and goals, though. Make them primarily LN or LG, but specify a "Witch Blade" code that isn't goody two-shoes.
>>33619665All a Witch is the name given to Pagan religious women by Christians. Some of the older religions would let Woman be in positions of power because fertility spirits, etc. and they became associated with dark magic because... they attempted to cast spells, usually ones involving religious rituals and meaning. Later they'd continue to become considered worse and worse as Christianity grew, until Witches weren't really a thing and all non-christian religion became devil-worship because it was easier to explain. Easier to cast Wyches as evil and fucking Satan when you've already stomped out their religion and now could just make shit up without really being challenged.
>>33618606HOW YOU GONNA FEEL THE VIAL TOPS WITH THEM GAUNTLETS? HOW YOU GONNA MIX EFFECTIVELY IN THE MIDDLE OF COMBAT; SHIT AIN'T GONNA TITRATE 'CAUSE YOU ASK IT TO.WHY ARE YOUR EYES PURPLE?
>>33619709Paladins are usually depicted as getting power from a good through the intermediary of their iron hard boner for said good and the ideals that god represents.
>>33618606Not too much here that needs work, especially if one discards the art, which, frankly, doesn't even fully match the description given.Change the name to Mystic Champion, as that has fewer 'buzzword' issues. Ignoring the art, and changing the name, what are we left with?Solitary warriors, trained in arcane arts, trained to focus with a specific weapon, but not unskilled in others. They wear piecemeal or self-made armor, are shrouded in mystery, and mix potions to aid their natural arcane abilities and physical prowess.There's...really nothing wrong with that. Move the pouch to somewhere safer/smarter (bandolier, side hip, back of shield, etc.) and that's fine. Other than that, it's noted that their magics are fairly limited. My only other big change would be the whole 'benevolent cause' bit of fluff. Make it instead that they are NORMALLY benevolent champions, but that they are trained to handle important and urgent threats to civilization. Some champions become jaded by their duties, others feel their talents make them superior to the common man.So they're a mystic order of mage knights that people KNOW are trying to take care of something important, but some of them are dicks.There. Done.
>>33619790The paladin bit wasn't what I was looking askance on.The idea of witches as being bad was discarded before 1e was done with, let alone being less reverential. Even evil witches love their master.
How much pussy did the DM who allowed this get?
>>33619745>>33619800These two anons basically got it.
>>33619745>Because of their God / Goddess' sphere of influence, most Witch Knights are female. Men are welcome to join their ranks, becoming Juggernauts.I'm going to go out on a limb and say I have no problem with dudes being called Witch Knights. And even if I did I'd still think "Juggernaut" was a weird and bad gender-alternate title.
>1.Dump name.Know what I like? Knight of the Goetic order[Goetic Knight for short].Boom. Gets exactly what you want to express across without sounding like somebody threw two conflicting themes together, even though that's what it is. (Goetia = Greek for witch)>2. Dump Armor idea.I am going to be contrary here, but I actually like the armor design. Just gauntlets and grieves... Looks sick, really. And it DOES serve a purpose. No, it isn't full plate, and yes, full plate is already easy to move in, but this takes even more stress off, while protecting the arms and legs from dumb scratches and random shit happening. Protecting the core is a lot easier than protecting everything. Also, having only arm and leg protection allows for easy sitting. VERY important.3. Potion pouch. You know what would be even better? Being able to enchant any liquid, rather than relying on crazy obscure ingredients and chemi ..Alchemy. Nothing wrong with the pouch, but it makes it better if you can just do your thing without needing eye of newt.Other than that, it's just another sword&sorcery type. Gish, mageknight, whatever you call it. It's not groundbreaking. Just tighten up the ideas and it's done.
So that alchemy pouch has a dozen different reagents in it. How many kinds of potions does a battle wizard need at any given moment? Are the possibilities so endless that you can't just carry them pre-mixed?Also:>paladin>no inherent emphasis on religion
>>33619882Yeaaaah, my brain was going "UUUUUUH. WUT DO" with the gender bit. Warlock Knight didn't flow off the tongue as well, and I knew that Warlocks were the male equivalent to witches. And from there I got Juggernaut for some fuckin reason. So point to you.
>>33619709>>33619665What exactly a 'witch' is varies from setting to setting, but is generally a woman who derives power from infernal/fae/pagan masters, to whom they are no less devoted than your average priest. Paladins are holy warriors, meaning they are priests with martial training, who have further taken sacred vows to X,Y,or Z.There's little evidence or reason to assume witches would be any less reverent/subservient than a paladin. A paladin is probably just LOUDER about it, since his god tends to be more socially acceptable. As an example, witches were called whores of Satan, because it was believed they literally had to FUCK the DEVIL to get their powers. No one ever thought holy knights were first sodomized by Jesus.
>>33618606it's a blackguard.whatever.
>>33618606>Magus variant with witch spells and alchemy as a class skill, possibly with alchemist-style bonuses.I really don't see what's wrong here. Just give her some armor that doesn't leave large open spots and you're pretty good.
>>33619745Juggernaut doesn't sound right. The name sounds more like some top heavy brute than a magic/knight mix.
>>33619970I know I know I know another Anon already got me over it. That was my brain going "UM WHAT DO."
>>33618725>he doesn't put braille on his vials so he can read them by touch>laughingwitches.jpg
>>33619905I hear "Goetic" and I'm thinking knights who are trained to summon angels/spirits/demons, not potion-brewers.Which is actually a much cooler concept, now that I've typed it out. You could have some who use them as familiars, others who let themselves be possessed, or maybe they're just invoked for a quick spell or buff or something.
>>33618725In plate gloves
THERE IS ONLY ONE KIND OF PALADIN.THE KIND WHO'S NAME ISN'T A POTENTIAL OXYMORON AND WHO WEARS ARMOR THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT CAME OUT OF THE GYGAXIAN EQUIVALENT OF A GOOD WILL.BUT I'M AFRAID YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID, /tg/.
>>33619995What sort of braille can you read while wearing gauntlets? It'd have to be a huge type size.
Also, unless this is some derivative of DnD, Why would you not have already buffed before combat VIA potions? Heck, you usually DO buff before battle in 3.5.Difference is the amount of 24 hour buffs available, as well as amount of spells castable. And are potions necessary? Usually the potion would be for people who can't cast magic. As everyone can drink. Unless they are going to be playing combat medic to people who can't cast spells and tossing them potions (Which brings up another question, if they are there, then why don't they cast the spells right there, and and keep it moving?)The only way that potions would even be viable, is if you are playing a system that is not caster-friendly and requires a bunch of bullshit rules past a sentence in a magical language. Then, okay... Maybe the potion IS a better idea, but in that case, why play this witch paladin. And why put it on their backs? Why not a satchel? And why can't they summon the potions they need when necessary?1/10, would not play in this setting.
>>33620173>THERE IS ONLY ONE KIND OF PALADIN.>Paladin is somehow a class that isn't magicalNah, fuck you

>>33620344Yeah, just like half of the cleric's spells. It's still a kind of magic.

>>33618606 "Pagan" folk/natural magic using order of protectors/monster hunters. Some are said to consort with demons or spirits of the dead, whatever method to achieve their goals or target. The folk call them Witchblades, and it's a tradition begun among the elves, and passed through the ages to half-elven and even human women. Women make the best Witchblades as their natural ability to create and carry life makes them attractive to magical energies.
>>33618606So it's an order of knights that use arcane magic and alchemy instead of a paladins divine magic?Doesn't seem all that strange to me.True they wouldn't be proper 'paladins' but they seem for follow a code of some sort that might get some respect. And honestly the armor isn't even the sluttiest i've seen by a long shot. What's the problem here?
>>33620460Mostly just with the name being oxymoronic and the writing being inconsistent here and there. That and some people are just picky. Like me.
Honestly? Sounds cool to me. Maybe switch the name to Witchknight, with Witchknight being gender neutral, and focus more on the Alchemy side of things.8/10 would play.
>>33620498The name isn't oxymoronic, though. Both are devotional classes.
>>33620516>>33620460So basically it's a perfectly valid class and concept that's unfortunately cast in a bad light due to poor wording.
>>33618695>>33618781>what are pagan religions
Remove the "Dark" part, replace potions with one bottle of vodka, preferred weapons are hammer and sickle, magic includes spells like "Burning Fist of the Proletariat" and "Equality Manifesto".Here we go, Comrade Paladin, Champion of the People.
>>33619994Why not just go for something masculine like Hexenknecht. Hexen being 'male witch' and knecht being 'servant', a fitting male name for a class that seems to be matriarchal.
>>33620516Well it kinda depends on how you're defining the terms and what sort of connotations those words evoke for you. It's not weird to think of a "paladin" as a Christian-esque holy warrior or a "witch" as pagan/Satanic devil worshiper.I guess it's not oxymoronic, exactly, but the words certainly clash in a bad way for a lot of people. Not to mention it's a fucking train wreck in your mouth to say.
>>33620068Tis the better concept. Agreed.Even better if they are a Hermetic order of knights. And how about this... They are ALL possessed, ALL have familiars, and gain their magical powers through their faustian pacts.Yeah, that's essentially again, just a blackguard, but there is something blackguards lack. An order. They don't have that tight fraternal brotherhood full of classy SOB's that looked into the abyss disrobed, fornicated with it, and came back hard. No homo.Taking in the dark seed (again ,no homo), each Knight of the order binds itself to a spirit, which through union teaches and fuels the knight's magick, shares history of the world, and generally serves the knight. Depending on the ranking, type and strength of the spirit bound, the knight gains the ability to summon it's familiar from the shade. Occult shit, demons, brotherhood, having to pay dues, smiting foes, getting money, ironically doing good wherever they go, slaying wenches(in the bed) and gathering dark knowledge...This is much better than OP's post.
>>33620698I'm guessing they don't have an order because more than one blackguard staying at one place leads to treachery, murder and overall assfuckery.
>>33620698sounds somewhat ebon blade'ish.
>>33620698>>33620640These two kinda work together. A 'servant' to a higher power summons otherworldly deities by allowing them to possess their bodies. That could also explain why they need to show skin. Possibly to expose the summoning 'brand' or 'tattoo' that allows the spirit into the body with a simple invocation rather than a complex ritual.
>>33618819>>33618851It's actually because their bodies aren't able to regenerate things that happened before the yoma flesh was infused in them... which means they're literally cut straight down the center and they have their organs hanging out unless they're sewn up, because they weren't joking when they stated they have yoma flesh inside them.it comes up in one of the more recent manga issues.
>>33618606Well, it seems to be another take on arcane casters or a holy warrior for a god of magic, effectively. Give them actual bits of armor and mark vials visibly.
>>33620651My point is that all the D&D deities are pagan in nature, and since 1e at the latest the assumption is that you're playing something similar if you have a cleric, ie. a bizarre mashup of witchcraft and holy warrior. Re: the name, witch paladin has four syllables, so yeah it could be shortened. >>33620698The KOTSS is pretty much what you're describing.>>33620727While the concept of a blackguard is pretty far from that of a KOTSS or this (other than being badness warriors), nothing stops blackguards from cooperating. LE blackguards especially. They are all charismatic, ie. likely to be able to persuade each other to be friendly or helpful towards them. Its worth mentioning blackguards, thankfully, do not have a bizarro code of conduct.
>>33620838Yeah but treachery, intrigue and general assfuckery makes their secret club much a much more interesting place. Just gotta do it with "subtle" politics and a whole crazy web of knights wanting other knight's job because of reasons and prestige.
>>33620806Very similar to the sword of the arcane order Mystra/Azuth paladin/ranger variants, like the Shooting Star. Particularly memorable 3.x ranger/paladin alternate class features, because they're one of the only ways to build a top notch single class paladin or ranger.
>>33620727Yeah, but that is a dnd thing. The "black knight" need not be so chaotic stupid that such an idea falls apart.I just think it would be sick to play the fantasy version of the illuminati. All the intrigue, the occultism, the politics, and the proxy wars, and then actually being the enlightened and good beings would be in my opinion pretty cool.>>33620737
>>33618795clearly you've never worn or used gloves extensively in a profession. it's entirely possible to do plenty of tasks by 'touch'. Having a sense numbed isn't the same as not having it, there could be differently pronounced ridges that catch in different manners on your gauntlets.
>>33618895>No armor taken from fallen paladins, that is heretical.using the armor of a fallen martyr/saint is heretical? fuck you bud.
Ignoring Paladins for a moment, I never did like the idea of Blackguards being this lolevul or Antipaladin or whatever they do these days.I feel it's much more fascinating and player-friendly a concept to play them as someone who follows a doctrine of personal strength and willpower above all else -- essentially the ultimate overachiever, who is willing to sacrifice things to achieve their goals, but strive far more to be strong enough to NOT have to waste and sacrifice to get what they want. Thus it becomes an inverse Paladin, one who uses the darkness within to power themselves, in a sort of Dark Knight sense. In a purely mechanical sense, it'd be concepts like burning HP for temporary strength, or to unleash a nukespell, and bonuses such as rerolls or free passes when in competition -- for example, if your Strength is higher than your enemy, then you will ALWAYS succeed a contest of Strength with them.Dark Knights can be a great concept without being silly or anti-hero as hell. It can just be a difficult and less-taken path of proving your might against the world, for good or ill.Such as slaying demon lords for being too weak to properly wield power without becoming grossly corrupt and having to hurt the weak to prove their (lack of) might.
>>33618606I can't grasp how the bag on her back works. Also the whole armor is stupid as fuck.
>>33620838Me gusta>>33620749I actually like the idea of them not being servants to the dark though, but conquering it and dominating. Not unlike The Sith Order, (albeit without rule of two esque rules.)Just having demons bound inside them, enslaved and controlled for their benefitAlso, Tagers.
>>33620976Nah that's just not good.
>>33621014Ok slick willy, you've defeated me soundly with your succinct arguments, so share with us what's a good idea, then?
>>33620976Well, it really depends on, naturally, what you mean.Blackguards are, themselves, mostly useless, but a few evil types need dat profane grace. Whatever. Blackguards can work just fine as lawful evil and principled and shit. There are 101 ways to have a spooky gish.
>>33621068I was arguing for the concept in broad, not just specifically D&D really, though it has a strangehold on most of those kind of ideas. I just like the idea of Paladin/Blackguard being two sides of one coin in ethics and means, instead of stale whitebread good/evil.It already makes poor sense for a Paladin to use divine power anyways, but you'd think they'd become something like a Ur-Priest if they fell or have an evil counterpart.
>>33620976The Ubermensch? It would also be interesting to see a fantasy fascist nation. Perhaps having their call to arms being occultism and it's progress itself. Like, being violently against BEING muggle/goi. But as a personal thing.Facist Magocracies are pretty fun. Just internalize the hate. Don't want to be ostracized, hit them books, bitch.
>>33619512>whats the point of a single shoulder pieceThe left side is generally more threatened due to most humans being right-handed and wielding their weapons accordingly. Two-handed weapons are also often hels with the point on the right side.If she had a one-handed weapon and a large shield, the armor would not be all that terrible considering fantasy standards, except for the lack of a helmet, the restraining corset, the strange thigh armor and maybe an additional armor segment for the left upper arm. But with this terribly unbalanced two-handed sword she is way too vulnerable not only to flanking but in any situation that involves two or more enemies. I can imagine nicer deaths than being gutted by a goblin with a rusty knife while you try to parry another one's strike.
>>33621125>I was arguing for the concept in broad, not just specifically D&D really, though it has a strangehold on most of those kind of ideas.Well you're bringing up the D&D name, so I'm not sure what you expect other than to have it discussed in the context of D&D.>I just like the idea of Paladin/Blackguard being two sides of one coin in ethics and means, instead of stale whitebread good/evil.In 4e, you've got perfectly viable unaligned paladins of the death deity with all manner of ultraspooky powers. It also has blackguards-as-sith, although not very mechanically sound ones, they're still stylish. In 3e, you have various flavors of arcane, divine, and psionic warriors.I don't see why you think its "stale whitebread" when there's a gigantic pile of supernaturally empowered warriors of everything other than good/evil: there's no benefit, when there's already a mountain of arcane/divine/psionic warrior classes, to recasting the classes about good and evil as something other than good and evil. Not to mention that urpriests are perfectly good spooky knights.
>>33621164Ubermensch without the genocide or fascism. More of a "I stand alone and am strong enough to overcome" kind of mentality, striving for genuine supremacy of self.
>>33621226Dat Iron Pill
>>33621066Mechanically it's sound but the whole fluff with killing demon lords because hurr ur too weak for dis power is just...
>>33621164With all the bloodline based magic, and race based classes/deities/magics in existence, I'm partial to there being some faction or another about MUH BLOODLINE. Not really sure if it should be the typical human supremacist faction (40k has got me permanently burnt out on that), or elves (justices of weald and woe have that niche covered I think), or maybe a draconic bloodline or something else. Alternately, a sorcerer focused faction.
it's a really rough pass, but what I had in mind would be to scrap the armor part all together and go with lighter stuff. Since they're 'mixing potions in battle' you dont want to clip yourself on your pointy armor bits and stuff. Also dropping the heavy plate will make it so casting doesnt fail as often.though i guess it's hard to reclaim cloth and stuff from fallen allies... but founding a group of warriors obsessed with seeing their allies die seems a bit silly. also why are they even called 'witch' paladins if they're more alchemist/mageknight than anything?
i'd choose a better name. the rest isn't so bad. it's basically just standard knight errant paladins with some ancestral magic thrown in. nothing wrong with that.
>>33621295Cuz witches have a folksy herbal remedy magic type theme, witches are the conceptual Lagrange point between druid, alchemist, and warlock.
>>33621068Why not a fight fire with fire order.Or just an order of unknightly knights, using every dirty trick in their sleeves to win EVERYTHING.You know, think about a "hero" that doesn't fight by the rules at all, and plays dirty as fuck using the most efficient solution to every problem. Hidden weapons, backstabbing, blowing up the BBEG's lair because why bother entering and so on.Think pragmatism mixed with Adsrubael Vect tier assfuckery.
>>33621332So... a rogue? Maybe fighter/rogue.
>>33618606Just change the label from Witch-Paladin to Witcher. Done. Next?
>>33621332Well, holy liberator.Rangers. Fighter with dirty fighting.Warlocks with eldritch strike.Various gishy types.Arcane trickster.Avenger.
>>33621344Nope, functionally it's a "knight", just playing dirty as fuck. Like Paladin is all going by the book and whatnot, this is the polar opposite. Not a ninja assassin whatever, just a dickass brawler with high enough charisma to bend people to his will and use them.
>>33621381I'm still getting "fighter/rogue" from your description.
>>33621381Yes, rogues work just fine for this concept. Str and charisma rogues exist in various permutations. Fighter-thieves have been in the game since first frikkin edition, always distinct from assassins and ninjas.
>>33620749At this point you pretty much have 4e primordial powered barbarians. Which would be cool as fuck in a mid to northern europe setting after coming from the middle east/ southern europe.Druids = Priestswitches = wizardsHost Knights = paladins
>>33621275I am down for demonic/diabolic/aberration based magic. Just some straight up evil shit, and then everyone locking it in tight. Less Mah race, more Mah demonz But having another faction like that is fine.I mean having a racial cult is fine or whatever, but you have to have someone willing to dole out the boons to that race only. No odin or YHWH here. Just fucking demons that would rather serve a mortal than be where they come from
>>33621275Humans would be difficult because every human propably has a drop of elven and a drop of orcish blood.Elves and Orcs also frequently mix blood with humans so you have a trinity for whom it wouldn't really work. But who are well organised and keep themselves away from influences of other races? While making advanced weaponry?Dwarfs.

>>33621448See Goetic Magic in Tome of Magic for example of morally ambiguous occultists with a combat emphasis, involving vestiges which include but are not limited to fiends that seek hosts to escape nonexistence.
By adding pants. I couldn't care less about the corset, just make sure they count as wearing light armor on the chest.
It doesn't need it? There's not a single thing here any more obnoxious or wanky than standard paladins.
I love the idea of a marshal tradition focusing on passing on weapons and armor, but really, that's the only unique idea here. We've just got shitty generalists who have a tendency to bite off more than they can chew because Muh Heroism. You want to fix this? First, don't use generic terms for their name. This is a group, not a job title. The subtitle is shit as well: the "Dark Champion of the People"? This suggests that people have a reason to see them as using evil forces for the public's sake. The use of Necromancy really needs to be played up for that one.Mixing potions mid battle? That's junk as well. Tiny bottles like that shouldn't be able to hold the proper reagents for anything spectacular. Have fun pouring one into the other singlehanded, without looking, anyway. Also, one solid hit into a hard surface could crack the vials, wrecking everything and causing random effects (most of which are tethered to your ass, woo safety.) Ideally, this would be dumped completely, as they already have magic. Just pack healing/warding potions in sheepskins.Uniform description needs to actually describe some identifying feature. Do they all wear cloaks? Brown and maroon dress sashes? The magical section just tells us that they collectively know all types of magic. Gee fucks, how amazing. And yet most of them favor necromancy, which is also cool and provides plenty of character design opportunity, but I fail to believe that none of them have successfully rebirthed someone. Not when they're a collective of magic users. If it's impossible, we should have some sign like "tried in vain". There's not much that can be fixed here, though... it's all too vague about anything meaningful, instead focusing on what we should already understand (like skilled mages having stronger/broader magic.)Weapons as above. My question is, who the hell is funding this operation? An ancestral tradition (for lack of a better term) wouldn't come from a group that serves some crown (cont)
>>33621678(cont) because they wouldn't need to hold onto these things. If they're poor though, how can they afford recruiting and such good marshal/magic training? So you want this fixed? Here's an easy bit of fluff to adapt for whatever you need:A band of freelancers operating outside the realms of lords, *name* possess a reputation for using magic and physical prowess to hunt monstrosities. They often run recruiting drives in the towns they rescue, looking for children who show signs of magical talent. Their worn armors often bare scars from battles of long-past members, both honoring the dead and disguising the degrees of combat the wearer has actually participated in. This helps to hide the high mortality rate of these warriors, who are lucky to live long enough to see *important age milestone in-universe.* Although their magical paths often vary, special focus tends to be put on necromancy, either for reasons sentimental (a dead pet or fellow warrior) or practical (the undead can still fight, and rarely lose morale.) Some rumors revolve around the group having achieved perfect rebirth through their necromantic powers. The truth is that even they have not been able to fully resurrect a fallen comrade, a sobering fact kept secret by their bestowing of armor upon those who look similar to the deceased. So /tg/, how'd I do? Granted, I didn't put too many specific details in there.
>>33621600I'd remove the belly dancer flap thing now, it looks super silly with pants on.

>>33620534You mean more or less entirely like the standard polytheistic DnD setting, except that modern paganism is retarded?
>>33621867Not any worse than monotheism...Also, D&D polytheism is a mix of Christianity and polytheism. You worship one god at a time, and unlike pagans, you also automatically view that deity as someone you want to *emulate*.
>>33618606With cleansing fire
>>33621407Mechanically, yes. It's just a bit underwhelming though since I kinda understand what that anon has in mind. For example:There is a town, in this town lives a man. Said man is a well liked celebrity and a huge benefactor of this town. He's also an evil cunt dabbling in murder, necromancy and what have you. Let's say a PC sees him in the act once, but can't really get any solid evidence no matter what, because the evil dude isn't retarded and covers his tracks really well. Thus the PC KNOWS the guy's no good but can't prove it. Your standard gallant knight paladin would intercept the dude in public, call him out on being an evil monster and then challenge him to a duel, proving to every single person watching that he's a thunderous cunt molesting the benefactor of this fair city. Then he'd kill the evil dude after a long and pretty equal battle. Now, the Not-so-gallant knight would fabricate evidence, spread rumors, cast a hex/poison the evil dude, make sure the dude challenges him to a duel for some petty reason in public, and then kill the weakened and disgraced villain. It just doesn't feel right to call the second PC a fighter/rogue even if it's mechanically correct.
>>33618606>Witch PaladinSo churches are massive community witch covens where the grateful townsfolk gather to give thanks to the various spirits witches commune with that assist every day to day life, kinda like Schirke from Berserk with he spirit thing?

>>33622119Okay. That... sounds... exactly like how a fighter/rogue or other skill based class would handle the situation. Using skills to harass someone before killing him is exactly what a skill based character does.
>>33622150Yes, mechanically. However slapping a fighter/rogue label on that just doesn't feel right RP-wise.
>>33622185He's a roguish fighting person.

Miracle WorkerThe Miracle Workers are benevolent, heroic champions who spread the messages of (insert lawful-good god) through their works. They abandon all earthly possessions and relationships to take this path in life - many come from poor and/or abusive families. It is very common for Miracle Workers to die young, either due to the violence of heathens or sacrificing themselves so their comrades may live. They carry small vials of holy water which they can turn into potions, though they have little to no control over which potion they end up making. There are a limited number of Miracle Workers at once - they wear the plate armor of their predecessors, which vanishes from their corpse and shows up back at the church when they die. Fighting without the full set on is widely considered to be a grave sin. Some argue that the miracles these paladins work are magic, and should be forbidden to any kind of paladin. Apologists often counter with the notion that mages are in complete control of their own magic, whereas (lawful good god) decides when and what the Miracle Worker can do. Neither side has yet to provide any proof of these claims

He only carries two swords for different types of monsters. Also he gets seriously fucked up every time he fights stuff tougher than say, ghouls. And most people fucking hate his kind. >>33624432Pretty much, but he's not really any smarter than other witchers. The ones with similar track record to him are pretty much just as cunning as he is, and in most cases fitter than him.
>>33624411I've never got the impression that the witcher was 'low magic' just not something as magic powered as DnD .
>>33618606Regardless of how stupid the idea is, I've got to admit it's pretty cool. That name though. Why not just call her a Witcher?
>>33624411Being powerful and popular doesn't make one a mary sue, anon. Otherwise you could say Gandalf is a mary sue
>>33624492Anyone better than me is a mary sue.
>>33618665>reduce the slutinessIt's a witch, charming and distracting enemies is her thing by definition
>>33624668Fair enough.I did change my mind later in the thread and used the phrase "combat masturbation" so I'm not going to argue with you.
>>33624682>combat masturbationAnd now you have my attention.
I made an Alchemical Knight alternate class for the Magus, personally.>>33624110Fits for most of the medieval period for people wearing pant-like things.Codpieces don't fit on women that well.
>>33625101But why don't they fit?
>>33625110Cause it looks kinda stupid.Unless you are into that thing.
>>33624734I feel like it doesn't require explanation
>>33624734With this feat you no longer provoke an attack of opportunity when masturbating in combat.
>>33625347BEING GUNDAM IS SUFFERING
>>33625323Surely there are more feats that branch off this.
>>33619512>>her hair is too nice>not keeping your hair cleancheck out this pleb, he doesn't even go into battle to dazzle the enemy with his fabulous locks
>>33623013>>33622976Because it'd be more effective to have a helmet with a smug anime girl facemask. Your enemy would get mad just looking at you.I'd even wear one as a guy.
>>33625713>I'd even wear one as a guy.Because you'd just love looking like a 2D girl.
>>33625750>Because you'd just love looking like a 2D girlSo what if I do Anon?
>>33625782Just pointing out, it kinda diminishes the relevance that you'd do it to get the enemy mad if you'd do it anyway.
>>33619789>SHIT AIN'T GONNA TITRATE 'CAUSE YOU ASK IT TO.That was unreasonably funny.
>>33618824I think you just described WC2 deathknights
So what a paladin is to a cleric, these folks are to sorcerers. In this setting some people are born with innate magical powers, they're Witches. The Witch species. The Mystics. Mazoku. Whatever. And these Witch Paladins are the Jedi while the Sorcerers are just wizards who didn't have to go to wizard college.Or, if the whole Jedi style born with innate powers bit isn't the important part, let's make the whole Dark Champion thing more integral to the concept. If this setting has good Dark Knights, like Cecil from Final Fantasy 2 (4?), if Darkness does not Equal Bad but people still believe it does, then show me that. Give me a reason to believe that you are both dark and draw on the powers of darkness, and what the upshot, the positive outlook, of the Darkness is that most people don't bother to find out.For my part, I'd love for a setting to have Dark Gods that weren't necessarily evil gods, but weren't just Dark for coolness sake and beloved by all fucking either. Its like Diablo Necromancers or even Infernal Exalts; they have a reason why they could plausibly believe they're doing a good thing, they're fighting for the right side and what is natural, but everything about them is antithetical to the current human experience/cosmology.
>>33618755Armor is glamored pink.
>>33622595Funny shit, bro.
>>33621712 Hmh. Like the philosophical bend. Couple it whit the aesthetics on in the thread and we are on the right path. Now for the justification. The reason they favor necromancy is because they move in small groups, sometimes pairs and it is not unheard of to go alone. A simple trip to a battlefield or a cemetery and you get yourself a dozen or a hundred combatants ready to fight without sacrificing other lives. Thus allowing you to take on large number of bandits and such without the chance of them scattering and reforming later when you are gone. The Alchemy is used as doping or as support. Not done during combat but before it,since your mission first involved scouting and information gathering preferably under disguise. Aside from that in disguise alchemy can give you resistance akin to light Armour, and the extra speed, grace and wits to escape without letting people know you use magic thus warning them some magical fighters are about. As you return to your camp or whatever you can get some specialty mixes, potions, poisons, debilitating or boosting smoke bombs etc. And if not in direct combat but fighting a disease you can try and make some cures for the sick, or in high society potions for vanity or virility - thus you can always help or game a situation. Thus someone like you will always be a boon to have around even if some practices of yours are questionable.Regarding necromancy i would suggest specialized subsection like lotr army of the dead, calling in ghost and others who are dead as a chance to reclaiming their peace or gain redemption. And for the less savory side inviting and remembering the consecrated dead of unfinished business or mild ptsd for fallen soldiers to fight again at their side. - this way they are not hunted by priests and such but tolerated. When no one is looking they will do the usual and general necromancy for the greater numbers, then putting the dead to rest leaving none the wiser
