You are Kagome Higurashi, an average teenage girl from Tokyo. Well at least you WERE average. After a series of strange and unfortunate events you find yourself in a strange place with even stranger people…

Earlier this morning you went back to the well you first came out of and, homesick, you flung yourself back down it however. Waiting on the other side was something you didn’t expect. Turning to flee back down the well you were attacked, however a voice rang out as you lost consciousness; regaining it on the other side of the well.

After a night of resting you, Inuyasha, Yura and Kujo Keisuke, the merchant began your journey to another village that Keisuke hadn’t heard from in several weeks… You have arrived.

Your eyes widen at the utter devastation surrounding you, the smell of death and fire fills your nose and clouds your senses though most of the flames have long since been extinguished. Charred bodies mounted on pikes dot the barren and smoldering landscape. The rumble of thunder can be heard in the distance and you shift uneasily in your position near the entrance of the walled town.

Keisuke kneels several yards in front of you, Yura, and Inuyasha. He wails as he holds a body close to his chest. In the distance amongst the wreckage stands a man in a strange white cloak, accompanied by a woman in a kimono and six soldiers on horseback.

Kagome; assess the situation.

(Select one):
>Find out what Keisuke’s deal is
>Yell at the cloaked man and his entourage (write in what)
>The group at the center of the town are the culprits, attack them
>Write in
>>
Rolled 3

>Last thread there was a lot of concern over 1's and failed rolls, so I have updated the rules (and character sheet) and have implimented the following system:

------ FATE CHALLENGE SYSTEM ------
Kagome can store up to 4 points (Fate Challenges) and can use them in the following ways ("I challenge fate"):

> Remove a dice in your rolled dice pool
(voted for after all die have been rolled)

> Add a +3 modifier to ANY roll
(voted for after all die have been rolled, only valid for current rolls, not ones earlier in the current or previous quests)

> Instantly refill your Energy
(explained in the Energy section above)

Regenerating Points:
Every three SJQ threads, the QM will roll 1d3 at the start and Kagome will receive that many Fate Challenges.
When Kagome "levels" (is awarded stat increases and new abilities) she will regenerate all 4 of her Fate Challenges.
>The d3 I roll on this post is how many you'll have to work with right now.

------ ENERGY ------
Energy is used for special attacks and actions. Kagome will start with a total of 100 Energy.

Energy regenerates by 25% of its maximum total for every 3 in-character non-combat posts.
You can also burn a Fate Challenge Point to completely refill your Energy, even when in combat.

Do it quietly. Try not to attract attention. Baboonbots are bad news, man.
>>

The stupid thing to do would be to get their attention by

"What the Hell is your problem?! What did these people ever do to you?!"

Doing >The group at the center of town are the culprits, attack them
seems more like a shounen protagonist thing to do, but a honestly, that's seems like just as bad an idea, if not worse.

>Find out what Keisuke's deal is
Seems like the right choice, if we're tactful about it.

Despair begins welling up inside you as you take a few soft tentative steps toward the man you were hired to protect. You feel your mouth begin to move even though your mind protests. “K- Keisuke?” your voice cracks.

The mans sobbing continues. You already know the answer to this unspoken question. You continue your pace, fearful of what you may find, but eager to provide comfort. You gently rest a hand on his shoulder and crouch behind him. In his arms is the body of a young man in an advanced state of decay. His once blue robe stained brown with spoiled blood. His flesh wrinkled and cracked from exposure. Flies drift in and out of a mouth frozen in an eternal scream.

“He’s… my son.” Keisukes wet bloodshot eyes meet yours. Your stomachs drops out and the world feels like it’s swimming. In the distance, the figures seem to have spotted you and are moving closer. Keisukes eyes drift back to the body in his arms and he draws it in for another embrace as tears continue to roll down his cheeks.

“He is my son…”

Your brow softens at his words, unable to find response to such a revelation you place your other hand on his shoulder, pausing to collect yourself. Weary, you make yourself upright, your vision whirling for a moment from the quick change.

Nodding your head towards the figures in the distance you signal for Inuyasha and Yura to move closer in. Setting your heavy backpack next to the distraught father, you join your two demon sidekicks ahead in the road.

Two of the soldiers break formation and turn, standing at attention and allowing the man in the strange white fur cloak to approach you. A woman in an ornate pink and white kimono follows behind him. He pauses as he looks down at Keisuke then to the rest of your group; The woman at his side adjusts her glasses as she clears her throat, prompting the cloaked man to speak.

“Ah yes… please pardon Us. Our name is Lord Kagewaki Hitomi and if We may ask, what brings you to this village?”

You can sense it in his voice. Harsh and somehow filled with venom. He’s cross examining you. You raise an eyebrow as you shift your weight to your back foot and cross your arms. “Business.”

“And pray tell what might that business be?”

“Body guarden’ this guy here. Corse ya can see we just got here cuz he an’t in good shape if yer implyen-“ Inuyashas grip tightens and loosens rhythmically on the scabbard of his blade.

“So, what happened here Lord Hitomi?” you finish for him.

“We were hoping you would be able to answer that. We only just arrived ourselves. Our territory has been under demon attack these past few months and when this village failed to send in its report and tribute we came to find it… like this.” He accents his words by waving his arm out over the scene.

You can sense a twang of sadness in his voice, maybe this guy just has a creepy voice?

“So, who’er these demons?”

“Interesting that you should ask. We suspect them to be of the canine variet-“

“It’s not him; he was with me the past few days” you interrupt.

“Perhaps” his assistant finally speaks, adjusting her glasses again “the eastern wolf demon tribe still lives?”

Hitomi sighs from underneath the mask of his cloak before looking up towards the sky then back down to Keisuke. He pauses.

“We are sorry for your loss.”

“… my son…”

“But please, we must bury or burn him and the others as soon as possible.”

>>33638140
Me extremely tenuous grasp of Japanese tells me it's something along the lines of 'festival winds'.
Judging by the name, the vote and the hints we've had so far, I'm guessing the effect something like it's using air/wind etc as a medium to spread some kind of euphoria? [/wildguessing]
>>
>>33638361
That might synergize great with Tetsaiga once Inuyasha gets it. And it might ruin Kagura's day.
>>
>>33638361
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaze_no_bon
>>
>>33638361
My 10 second research said it's roughly "bon dance of the wind" and has something to do with a festival. Spreading euphoria would be neat, I think. Fedora joke aside, we could boost Inu and Yura.

Note, by ten seconds, I meant I am not researching more so as to not spoil the whole surprise, not implying anyone here is lazy. Y'all have been pretty good people.
>>
>>33638265
So his name in Japanese is Bon of wind (used goggle translate so is most likely off)

Now putting that into wiki tells me it a festival held on September 1 to 3

Now the intreasting bit is that it is held orignaly too appease typhoons and allow for a bountiful harvest of rice now since it is a sword i suppose we can rule out the rice so it is ether high force wind or a lot of water
>>
>>33638140
Isn't that the festival dance praying for tsunamis to not murder people?

“An why’s that?” Inuyasha scoffs

“We suspect something… may have gotten past our ports customs officers…”

Thunder rolls again as the sky finishes darkening. You rub at your exposed right arm, it feels as though a thick damp film clings to it. The are around you becomes quite heavy.

“Oh me oh my, looks like rain?” Yura pouts, placing her hands over her head in a mock umbrella.

Your pulse quickens as you begin looking around frantically. You haven’t been on this world long, but you know better. Paranoia will serve you well here.

http://youtu.be/_PHdpi4XgLs?t=55s

You hear a feint cracking and what sounds like wet ripping, turning around you see one of the charred and piked corpses thrashing about wildly.

Its head swivels violently like a broken watch before coming to a stop. Its mouth hangs open as its throat contorts and bulges. It’s mouth opens wider until its jaw dislocates itself as the corpses throat tears; a large red bulbous orb emerges. The back of the throat begins to contract before ripping like an overripe fruit, another red orb emerges.

The carcass continues its contortions with an unholy rhythm. Its skin rises and falls in peaks and mountains. A small black digit pokes through the charred flesh before cascading out, followed by a second one, spilling the cadavers entrails to the ground. Long, segmented and black, with thick hairs dotting an arm ending in two sharp talons.

The human bodies arms flail about before stiffening, bone cracks and pops through the skiln before the hands open up bearing similar talons.

It trashes on the pike mounted in its gut eager to tear away. The entire party seems transfixed on the monstrosity and through your peripheral vision… you see dozens of these creatures rising from the rubble and shambling toward you.

Kagome; assess the situation.

The alcohol would be flammable, but not really explosive. We might get to set like one or two on fire if they bunch up real tight.

“Move.” You whisper “MOVE!”

“PROTECT THE LORD!” All but two soldiers dismount their steeds and circle around Hitomi.

Dozens of these monstrosities continue to rise from the rubble and make their way toward you. The world seems to slow down. Every single one of their moves imprints on your mind like a blueprint. Your attention refocuses back to the writing monstrosity on the pike you say earlier as is squirms free and hurls its wooden at you. With a wave of your naginata you deflect the spike before continuing the circle of motion and grabbing the back of Keisuke’s robes. The body tumbles from his grasp as he claws at something. You hurl him away from you and towards Yura causing them to topple over, but you managing to snatch and put on your backpack in the same motion as well.

“They’re cummen!’” the dog demon shouts, drawing his blade and tossing Yura hers. "I can't wate ta sharpen my claws..."

Three of the creatures lunge at you from the front flailing their arms as they attempt to close the distance, and you happily oblige them. You hold your naginata over your head and break into a sprint, leaping as you near them; your foot connects to one of the abominations “head”s with a sickening crunch. Feeling the flesh give way into a suitable hold, you convert your energy into a front flip; your naginata trailing behind you and neatly bisecting the creature as you land in a crouch before single handedly thrusting the blade into the left ones chest. Grabbing your pole weapon with your left hand, you rip it free along with a large chunk of flesh and ichor before using that momentum to cleave up and through the other ones armpit and into its chest before yanking the blade free and spinning it to slice into its head.

Kicking the mutilated corpse over you look back to catch Inuyasha ramming his fist through another as it screeches and claws at him before he finally hurls it against the towns tall wooden walls with bone shattering force. He screams and shakes his arm.

“Their blood burns!”

Yura constantly seems to be twitching her hands and you notice that every so often in the distance one of the creatures simply falls apart. Hitomi’s retainers make quick work of the few creatures that make it to them while his advisors eyes dart about the area, one hand in her robes.

Flipping your naginata and planting the blade into the ground, you pierce through the head of one of the creatures crawling toward you missing its lower half.

Hmm. If the bottleneck approach won't work here, we could attempt to fall back and try to get the corpse-spiders in a large group.

After that happens, Yura could dice them up with her hairs OR Inuyasha could do his "Iron Reaper Soul Stealer" attack to dice them all up from a distance.

Looking behind you, you see that a large mass of the creatures has neared the entrance of the town, however they don’t seem to be interested in escaping.

You rush back to assist the group, having moved too far ahead and out of the corner of your eye you notice that the insect like creatures seem to “deflate” as a swarm of insects emerges from their destroyed bodies. Their attention also seems to directly focus on yours and the lords parties.

“They’re hunting us!” you shout, now back to back with Inuyasha.

“Well they most certainly don’t seem interested in leaving” Yura grunts, lighting one on fire.

“You! “ the lords advisor shouts, “Take him into the temple, they can be funneled through and slain!”

Nodding, the retainers move towards the scorched temple near the center of town; Keisuke Holds the saber close to his chest, his eyes darting from left to right.

Finding the temple doors locked, Inuyasha punches through the heavy wooden doors until the space is large enough for everyone to fit through.

The temple is dimly lit. A Buddha statue sits on the far back wall, the candles surrounding it having burnt out long ago.

Your eyes are having trouble adjusting to the light, but you can see it. Just barely. You raise your left arm in a horizontal bracing position as one of the creatures bursts from the darkness, throwing its full weight down on you. Its talloned appendages thrash wildly grazing your armor; you feel a dampness sprinkle your face. It burns. With a loud grunt you heave the creature off of you. With what little light pierces through the hold in the now crowded door as Inuyasha works to stomp any intruders to death, you catch your leather bracers sizzle. A sliver of light catches the beasts eyes, reflecting it in several directions. From what you remember in biology class, this thing is probably some kind of bug.

You grit your teeth and thrust into the darkness, sure to hit your mark, however an unseen force pulls you forward throwing you off balance before shoving you back all via your naginata. It seems the bastard dodged it then used it to throw you off your feet!

You fall to the wooden floor with a thud and before you can right yourself, the thing’s already crouching on top of you. You hold its main arms up trying to keep it from getting full control, your hands sliding around the rotten flesh draped over the beast. Its lower pair slash at your body, cutting into your armor including some of the strings binding it together.

You wince in pain, trying not to look at the creatures face as one of its talons finds its mark near your ribcase. It wiggles its claw, trying to burrow deeper. Rocking back and forth to throw it off of you, you’re no match for its current leverage. You turn your head as you see a large mass reach out for your face, drops of searing liquid pelting your cheek. Yura stands over you, expressionless. Her hand bent onto a sort of claw shape. She flicks her wrist and the abomination catches fire. You promptly fling it off of you, wheezing to catch your breath and wipe your face despite the stench of burning putrefied flesh.

“You really must be more careful my dear… a lady’s first kiss is her most important.”

Inuyasha pants, his arms and legs covered in blisters, a mass of corpses now blocking off the hole he cut into the door.

“Do you hear that?” One of the soldiers asks.
“Ya… sounds like…”

You limp to the wall and peer through a knothole in the wood. Outside the creatures are turning on themselves; each of their deaths spawning a small black swarm.

“They’re… killing each other.”

“Pfft, probably saw what they were up against.”

All around you the sound of creaking wood echoes, then, sudden defining buzzing.

A massive cloud forms in front of the Buddha statue, before “exploding” and dispersing far smaller. Illuminated by the burning monster corpse is a man in pulsing black armor and a flowing hooded cape. A book lays chained to his hip, a large broadsword on the other. A tarnished golden crown adorns his head and a stark white ivory mask covers his face, devoid of any markings. He holds his arms out and in broken Japanese proclaims:

”Welcome to Death”

>>
>>33650697
I wonder, if she will become human in some point or more organic, Yura its like a lich, her only mortal weakness its the skull.
>>
>>33652509
Makes me wonder if the skull gets scratched if she'll share the same damage like a voodoo doll, or if it's all or nothing. (Skull is destroyed then she is).

Shame she's starting to get a little friendlier otherwise I'd suggest experimenting.
>>
>>33652929
We are probably the first person to ever just give her hair. She doesn't know how to feel yet.
>>
>>33653358
This actually makes me wonder how old she is and what her history is. I remember the show saying something like she's actually a comb that was used to brush the hair of demons or something. But then when they break the skull she dies so who knows.
>>
>>33653401
Oh, I think I have cracked the puzzle. She was human, but as we have learned that under certain circumstances that Humans can become demons. Enslaved by great and noble Daiyokai, she was forced to comb the hair of demons. Rather than allowing her to die and lose their favorite mortal slave, they bound her to the hairs that had fallen loose while combing.

She claims to be the comb rather than the skull because the skull is a reminder of her humanity, which he is too broken to acknowledge!
>>
>>33653598
Or, close to starving because the Daiyokai didn't understand the whole "mortal" thing, she ate the hairs that fell out of the demon's head while combing until she herself became a demon and strangled her keeper with his or her own hair.

“The bed is comfortable” you say out loud to no one specifically. You scoot closer to the edge and dangle your legs off and you begin kicking them as you twiddle your thumbs and look at the stark white ceiling.

Its almost been a month since the lockdown. The day after Kagome’s birthday some men from the government came to your school. Apparently there was some kind of reactor leak and they were testing students for poisoning before relocating the entire town. Then the containment zone grew. It continued its growth again and again as more people flooded into the area to stop the contamination that week, but you weren’t allowed to leave. You’re stuck here taking tests and eating pills while the world spins by. You know it’s for the best, you don’t want to make anyone sick, but you feel just fine.

You notice the latch on your door lift as a male nurse arrives in a hazmat suit to give you your pills and supper. As you choke down the capsules and fish you can’t help but think whatever happened to the rest of your friends, your family, or the town.

Well. Sucks to be Kagome's friends and family, then.

I still think we should have cooperated with the men when we jumped out of the well. Maybe they wouldn't be in lockdown if we explained.

>but you've already met...
It worries me that I don't know which one your talking about.

>>33657730
Damn, things are going to Hell back home.
>>
>>33657858
>Oh it's not so bad...
it could be worse
>>
>>33657730
Home sound like it's in a bad way.
I'm glad we ran.
>>
>>33658122
Why? The QM wasn't going to bad end us there. We might actually know what the hell is going on if we hadn't run.

I sort of feel like if we had stayed, we'd be more or less running the Substitute Soul Reaper arc. Just without school. Or powered up friends.
>>
>>33658344
I don't know what that means.

Wouldn't be surprised if Kagome's friends or family had some spiritual powers too, though. And Inuyasha would definitely come after us and save us if we needed it. Probably drag Yura along too.

But having a killsquad come after us is almost as cool. No regrets.

Could be raining.

Exactly.
I am enjoying the... mystery, I guess? The suspense. The wondering.
Every time we find out a little bit more, it just raises further questions. Or emphasises older ones.
It's delectable.
>>
>>33658467
I would be completely okay with this if the possibility for answers hadn't been right fucking there. Failing to get answers? Cool. Not even trying? Uuuuuugh.

I'll shut up about it now.
>>
>>33658542
I'm sure things will come into focus. Maybe we'll get mauled, but at least we'd know.
>>
Well what I think we can take away from that is that her friend is at least being taken good care of. Unless the pills are transforming her into a demon or monster or something.
>>
>>33659302
It's a placebo to keep the you're sick cover story alive.
>>
>>33659383
I'm not so sure, this whole organization's pretty shady.
>>
>You guys certainly have some interesting theories. I'll tell you that much.

>Looks like Yura got a lot of love post quest too. You guys seem more and more attached to her by the thread.
>>
>>33659636
From what I can tell, they're trying to contain crazy magic and stuff. Making a demon army via pills doesn't really fit with this.

I'm not saying you're wrong. It just doesn't seem likely.

>>33659908
She's cool and she could've let Kagome die this thread and didn't.

Ah, puns.

We can count on her if things get Hairy
>>
>>33664131
She works nicely with Kagome now, she just needed conditioning

All these puns are getting me frizzled. Guess I'll have to split end of the thread before the whole thing blows dry and I wig out.
