You have always wanted to be an emperor. That ambition has burned dimly in the past, tempered by reality. Now the opportunity to realise your ambition has arrived and you are determined not to let it slip. Now is the time to build your empire and become an emperor.

Last Thread: You are the knight, Talon York, and you are an emperor, but not the emperor… yet. Last thread you watched a griffin battle with a dragon. Now it is time for Caitlyn and Rayza to face off to determine who will be the grandmaster of your empire’s knightly order.

As you step into her guard, your shield raised, you consider the fact that Rayza will have seen as much of your fighting style as you’ve seen of hers. If she’s capable of switching things up to keep you guessing then you can do the same. If Talon can change his methods of fighting at the drop of a hat then so can you.

You hope.

Rayza tries a probing slash from your bottom-right and you deftly deflect it with your sword, pushing forwards against her. Your foot drags along the dirt as you create as much momentum in your upper half as possible and nearly remove Rayza’s head from her shoulders with a backhanded swing. She steps back out of range your swing with a quick hope, her body blurring slightly from her speed. You wouldn’t normally use so much strength and speed against your foe, knowing that you could easily kill them, but you felt no such qualms going all-out against this spellblade. If Talon asked, you could just say that you thought she’d be able to dodge it. No real loss if she couldn’t.

You demonstrate your own speed in dodging her reflexive counter, snapping your arm back in close to your body to avoid it being severed by her blade. You eye her sword carefully before attacking again – you saw her block a sledgehammer with it yesterday. The khazite it was made with was unyielding.

You felt the leather around your sword’s hilt tighten as you gripped it, readying yourself for several more chained swings. You needed Rayza to do something more than just a reflexive counter – you need her to make a killing strike as a counter to you overextending. If she did that then you might be able to seize on that manufactured opening. If you missed it then you could simply smash your head into her. You doubt she’d expect that, given how vulnerable she’d been to Toren’s attack in that other fight.

Probably a good thing you had that custom to lower the DC by one point.

>Target met

Your first swing trims a few hairs off Rayza’s head as she underestimates how quickly you can surge forward. You regret not being a tad bit more serious in your attack – you might have been able to trim her head, too.

The second and third fall well short of her as she quickly adapts to your actual reach. Well, your ‘actual’ reach. Talon said to take things seriously so you’ve been planning the entire tournament – you’ve intentionally held back, even with your earlier swings in this fight, so that you’ll have that necessary trump card. Rayza was dangerous because she was experienced. That meant she knew how to adapt to and work around the limitations of her opponents so that she could defeat those better than her. You would just use that against her, just as Talon must have when he defeated her years ago.

You weren’t going to lose to a glorified mage.

It’s the fourth swing that draws Rayza in, having convinced herself that she can openly exploit your opening. You grin broadly behind your helmet, glad that she can’t see your expression. You’re a terrible poker player, as you’d learnt when Sala decided it would be fun to play strip poker with Talon. You don’t think you would ever learn how to pull a poker face like he could. Your warped smile just couldn’t match his ability to stare everybody down with complete placidity while holding a royal flush.

Those idle thoughts worked to your advantage, preventing your instincts from pulling you away from Rayza’s blade too early. Her sword brushed your breastplate and you felt her strange magic surge through it. This was the point where she blew you across the arena, breaking no small number of bones from the combination of the initial blast and the impact of the landing. If she pulled off the spell you’d be hurting no matter your draconic strength.

Which is why your shield snapped up from its low guard, knocking her sword upwards. She was already pulling back, however. Damn her experience from preventing her from fully committing. You’d just need to improvise. You feel the crunch through your helmet as it crashes into her face. You were just buying time so that you could pull back your sword and gut her. Technically not what you were supposed to do but you doubt it would kill her.

Then she seems to blur, her feet suddenly in a different place as magic surges through her. Your entire body seems to throb in sympathy with her magic, the sorcerous power that is surging through you recognising hers. It’s only instinct that keeps you from following through on your attack.

Talon had told you that if something felt wrong then it usually was. The real talent was in determining why it was wrong. You didn’t have time to do that last part but you could at least act on the instinct. Instead of a fast and sharp thrust, you did a slightly more lethargic swing, careful to hide your true speed and reach.

As you lashed out at Rayza you could feel a sense of wrongness permeating everything. Magic suffused the very air itself, making the world itself feel alien.

Once again, instinct cried out at you to withdraw. You frown inwardly, not sure if you should follow your instincts or your training now. That wrongness was present even as your sword swung just shy of Rayza’s neck – if you’d used that extra reach she might be dead now, you think.

It still feels wrong, even as your instincts tell you to pull back. On the other hand, you were confident that you could end this. Rayza had nothing special, just as you’d told Talon before. You…

>1. Pull back. Your instincts are probably right, even if they were wrong just then.

My first thought was a fellow dragon, and this might be it.
But then, why does she feel so wrong? either because she is hiding it. Or maybe she is a hell dragon...
Or maybe she is neither and is actually something fel dragons were designed to fight. After all, they were created for a reason and that reason was combat
so, what were fel dragons designed to combat?

It's a shame we don't know more about Lynn's capabilities. I'm thinking she's getting confused by minor illusions and feints meant to throw her attacks out of position. Her opponent is heavily focused on counter attacking which leads me to believe that she had the exact opposite idea and is trying to bait Lynn into over committing be being slippery. I think it'd be a good idea to wait and find an opening for a shield charge, but only if we can make sure it hits. Charging past the opponent will leave our back open which will be bad.

I'll be honest: I originally thought of the Knights of Basette to be similar to the Berenike Knights (or Tower Knights) of Dark Souls but with similarly bulky armour on the bottom-half. You could also picture the armour as like Grey Knights in terms of bulk. It's basically very big and bulky armour that looks intimidating.
>>

I'm picturing a frog helm myself, though a more stereo typcial visor set up may look better.

I'm probably going to do a couple character models then put Talon Vs Volante on paper in some form. I'm a little slow so it probably won't be done till next thread or so.
>>
>>33668384

From what I would assume, seeing as it was designed for the Most skilled warrior in the order of most skilled warriors, it would probably be designed for functionality, though in that would lie it's aesthetics. I believe it was described as being made of numerous smaller plates which slightly overlap to allow for great protection without hindering movement...

One would assume that it would inspire awe whilst being intimidating to a normal soldier. This is a suit which demands the respect of it's wearer, not for their position, or their wealth, but for their skill and power.

Something isn’t right about this entire situation. Rayza is clearly manipulating a different power to most mages yet neither yourself, Talon or Finn can sense what it is? Now you’re caught right in the middle of a spell of hers and your instincts want you to pull out. Normally you’d trust them, as Talon advised you to. However, if you’ve never fought this sort of attack before how can your instincts be trusted?

Instead you snap your arm back, narrowly dodging a quick counter by Rayza that would have knocked you off-balance, and position it behind you to guard your back as you raise your shield in front of you. You focus your senses on your surroundings, trying to push past whatever your opponent is using to confuse you.

You close your eyes, suspecting that whatever you’re seeing is a lie. Rayza has been able to hide everything about herself so far. You won’t let yourself be drawn into her illusion any more.

As you think that you punch through whatever aura she has placed around you, your senses return to normal. Like she sensed what you were doing. That sense of wrongness withdraws and you’re left with just Rayza, obviously in front of you but impenetrable to your senses.

Could it be that the same spell that prevents you from determining what she truly is was confusing you earlier?

You shake your head free of idle thoughts and instead focus on your opponent, snapping forward with your shield to throw her off-guard. Once again her sword clatters uselessly against your shield but this time you are ready for it.

>Dramatic failure

Or you thought you were ready for it.

Your shield slides forward as her sword slides past you and you immediately press the advantage. You are inside of her guard and prepared to land your killing blow. It’s over.

There’s a flurry of movement to your left but before you can react you notice that Rayza is clearly reacting desperately, attempting to fend you off with a swift punch. You shift slightly to knock her blow aside and hammer your pommel into her head in place of your slash. You hear the crack of her bones as your armored gauntlet impacts on her lightly armoured forearm.

But as you attempt to follow through with a sharp crack of your pommel into her face, you find your arm failing you. Then you realise that your entire body is failing you. You curse your own insensitivity to pain as you realise that the flurry of movement on your left had been Rayza launching a pincer attack, striking your chest and puncturing a lung while you deflected her other attack.

Clearly overconfidence did not become you, even if Talon did seem to like it sometimes.

You slumped to your knees, your left arm weakly deflecting a second blow before you dive to the side. The impact rattles your bones and although you don’t feel the pain you know that you should be surrendering now. You’re not going to but your body is quite clear in its opinion.

Your mind is even clearer – you can feel a strange surge of… something pumping through your body. It might work for you but it might work against you. You vaguely remember something similar from long ago – Talon had been so worried by you then. You didn’t want him to be so worried again. You would win this without this help.

>Exceptional success

As a current of pure fury and emotion runs through you, you remember something your daddy had told you. That dragons were creatures of pure passion, that your magical essence was that of fire and steel made flesh. It was the ability to bring this passion, this essence, from a mere concept into your very being that made a feldragon different to a dragon. It was the core of why so many dragons had rejected him and his kin – passion and sincerity was often rejected by those who could not reflect the same feelings.

With those memories you realise what this is – this isn’t some strange errant behaviour or bestial berserker rage. It was the representation of your passion – something in your body saw that you were failing at something you shouldn’t fail at. Something you couldn’t fail at.

Talon had said this fight wasn’t serious but he had told you that there was nothing wrong with showing your draconic abilities. That meant it was serious – your demonstration here would reflect on him. He was so callous at times but you knew he had his sincere side.

It hurt you to know that you might fail him like this. Hurt you more than you expected.

You didn’t like being hurt so you weren’t going to fail. You were going to grasp this raw rage and fury and turn it into your strength. You were going to crush this bitch like you had crushed so many others.

You rolled backwards, your body rapidly healing from its earlier wounds, and dodged a blast of magic. Rising to your feet you raised your shield and sword. You could feel her presence clearly now. That something within her was obvious despite its weakness. It was like you yet inferior. Like you yet superior.

Confusing. You didn’t like confusion. You…

Although the dragon royalty though really fits.
something less = weaker, she is a plain jane dragon. No hell, no fel.
something more = sylvanis said that all dragons can sense dragon royalty.

Rayza was initially intended to be part-Fae but I instead incorporated her into the dragon plotline to both reduce the number of characters and get rid of the obvious problem of a part-Fae character.

>1.

It once worked wonders against Talon. Maybe it will work against Rayza.

Before you can turn Rayza into roadkill with your shield and enhanced strength you first need to withstand the magical barrage she’s launching at you. It seems she’s sensed something changing about you and has changed tactic entirely.

Her sword whirls about her as she casts spell after spell. Magic whirls around her body wildly as she channels as much magic as possible to fuel her barrage. The problem with using so much magic so rapidly is that it makes it obvious to sharp observers like Talon and Finn exactly what Rayza is.

A dragon, just like you. Or not like you – you were once told that most dragons had a human form and a draconic form whereas yours is merged. You know Rayza to be a dragon of some form, however, and you know that she feels slightly special to your senses. You also know that the specialness about her doesn’t make her strong.

Not like you, anyway.

>Magical Defense: Target met; 2, 19, 13

Her magical blasts and lances scorch the dirt around you, creating small craters and filling your surroundings with dust. You stand firm, with your shield raised, and ignore all distractions. This is a blind barrage and you won’t fall to such desperation.

Your world is rocked several times by magical blasts directly impacting with your shield. Each time your own magic catches and funnels Rayza’s power around you, like water against a large stone. Water might defeat a stone over many decades but Rayza lacks the endurance to truly be a stream.

Plus, most stones don’t beat the shit out of the stream pushing against them. You reckon that Vad’s stupid water versus rock metaphor is dumb and you’re going to demonstrate why right now.

>Shield Charge: Target not met; 7, 7, 13

Power surges through you, channelling through your limbs and feeling like a very good drug. You know better than to let it linger, however. Right as one of Rayza’s magical blasts soars by your head you leap forward, your shield glowing a bright red as your power makes it like a battering ram. You’d never quite gotten the knack of Talon’s strange barrier projection but you didn’t need to – you could just put your power into the object.

Or that usually worked. You regretted not learning his trick when your missed Rayza by mere inches – Talon’s barrier would have knocked her flat anyway, as it projects to the sides. Instead you got knocked flat, tripped by the faster and more nimble foe while you were off-balance. You ignore the slash she makes against your arm, knowing that it will heal rapidly with the lingering power form your berserk rage.

“Really? You’re still going?” Rayza says, her voice filled with frustration. “Can’t you just realise when you’re beaten.”

“A battle isn’t over until it is over,” you say, turnig slightly to watch Rayza, noting the grimace on her face.

“A battle, maybe, but this is a duel,” she retorts. “I’ve clearly won. Everything else is just posturing.”

“I just said-“ you find yourself repeating before being cut-off.

“That you’re oblivious, yes,” Rayza says, raising her sword and focusing her power once more. “There’s a crucial difference between us – you’re here to serve but I’m here to conquer. That alone means that you will never beat me – I never lose to the same opponent twice and I never lose to somebody weaker than those I defeat. You’re nothing compared to Talon York.”

Talon. Your head throbs at the thought. Does she want Talon? Is this about him? More than that, she’s saying she’s superior to you. You normally wouldn’t care but somehow this rings wrongly through your body. It’s almost painful to hear her say as much. You are a feldragon. Your father told you that you were going to be a future for a dying race – to hear that you were inferior to a mere peasant from such a dying race-

No. You may be happy to serve and Rayza happy to conquer but you were also greater than such weakness. You would conquer those too weak to serve, to hell with their absurd thoughts.

You…

>1. Use your draconic sorcery to crush Rayza. You would never be bested in the arts of magic by such a weakling.

You can hear the people go mad in the background as you stand tall in front of a frightened Rayza. Your wings stretched out wide, drawing a great black veil in front of your foe as your tail idly swayed across the dirt behind you. You could feel something bursting from your skin around your hands and feet but it felt as natural as your wings and tail so you ignored it.

Gripping your sword tightly, you gave Rayza a hard glare. “I serve to prevent weaklings such as you from so much as thinking about conquest. Don’t waste your weakness.”

Then you give her a harsh grin, your canines extending far outside your mouth, before darting forward.

You catch the ebb of Rayza’s power. Like moths being drawn to a flame. You make yourself a larger flame and the moths fly to you instead. A moment later your sword crashes into Rayza’s, smashing it out of her grip and a foot into the hard dirt. A moment later your claw-hand snaps back, still gripping your sword, and backhands Rayza off her feet.

The spellblade catches herself with an acrobatic manoeuvre but you’re already on her with a quick snap of your wings. You can almost see her movement before she makes them, your mind reading the subtle movements of her muscles and telling your body what to do to crush her.

Her magic meets your claw for a moment. Then your shield glows and a pulsating blast of red turns Rayza’s hand into a puff of red. Before she can react you let the pulse go again and Rayza seems to shudder from an unseen impact. Then she collapses, the blast of force you emitted having not been fully absorbed by her barrier.

You’ll finish this you think. End this witch.

You’ll end this.

You will kill her.

You will-

You fall to your knees, spewing bile over the ground as your inner consciousness intervenes. You can’t do this, you think. You won’t become a monster.

Power surges through you again and your vomit in response. Your body feels weak, so weak that you have difficult holding yourself up on your hands and knees. Your hand slips from the ground and your body crashes to the dirt, pain lancing along your back from where your wing hits the ground. You feel your bile pooling around your body and it merely grows as you suffer from the conflicting impulses of your bestial passion and your consciousness.

Talon, please…

You feel something pick you up from the ground. Something warm. Something strong. Something comfortable. You feel weak and uncertain but you know that’s fine so long as you’re supported like this.

You remember why you chose to serve instead of destroy like your father.

As you cry into Talon’s shirt you realise that something has changed. You can at least serve him to your fullest instead of acting out a lie.

Gnome's tall. Probably about 5'11 or so. She's slightly plump but not hugely so, big hips tho. Basically, she's got a lot of muscle but unlike Sala she has a layer of fat covering it. She's enormously busty - I'm hesitant to give a detailed size (particularly as my experience is only with more lithe women) but she would definitely be on the very large side for a human woman. Brown skin.

I can be a bit bad with detailed description so just ask if I've missed anything you're after specifically.

The tunnels underneath the Marnn range have plenty of dangerous stuff in his range to fight. If you're intent on the slow but steady improvement then it's perfect for Felix and his buddies (and other top-notch knights).

>Oh and any scene or character (besides Talon) you'd like to see doodled out in the nearish future?
If I have a choice then probably Volante and the fight against him.

>>33669867
>has he tried healing people on an individual level without FR points? something like iron body but for someone else's body?
He hasn't tried it. Mostly because he doesn't have the slightest clue how he would do it. Iron Body works because he's just maintaining his own image.

She does. The close resemblance to humans is intentional. Her body doesn't completely rely on them, though. Somebody could rip out her heart but she might still punch them in the face afterwards if she had enough magical power running through her.

>>33669888
Inadvertently modifying people's bodies could have some pretty nasty effects. It's implied that uplifting is a pretty complicated process so even doing something potentially similar could end badly. You haven't seen any negative impacts from healing them at Castle Gimbon but that may be because you didn't actually heal them yourself so much as you pumped huge amounts of magical power into your comrades (which implies they healed themselves with the excess power).
>>
>>33669881
>Send Knights into Marnn in order to increase their overall battle readiness and experience. Give them a year or so and campaign provisions as if they were going to war. Those that come back are all certified ass kickers.

I hope when the opportunity arises others share my enthusiasm for the idea.

>>33669930
Ah, so would it be more likely that by pumping them full of power (and somehow keeping it from burning them out/blowing them up) the heavy lifting of restoring their bodies is done by their own soul? I wonder if Blackwater's unique semi immortality trick could give us clues to better understanding the astral adepts and similar soul weirdness
>>

>I hope when the opportunity arises others share my enthusiasm for the idea.
I know I do, getting Felix + co up to a tier where they'd actually be relevant is going to create an incredibly powerful command unit. We might also want to offer the option to our Grandmasters and their best knights.
>>

>Marnn idea
You could probably lower the casualty rate by having Karise's foxes fill a sherpa role. They would essentially tag along and whisk away any knights that are in serious danger but not intervene otherwise.

>Ah, so would it be more likely that by pumping them full of power (and somehow keeping it from burning them out/blowing them up) the heavy lifting of restoring their bodies is done by their own soul?
It's probably more accurate to say that their bodies interpreted the sudden excess of power as coming from their souls and used it to heal themselves. Much of a muchness but the metaphysical mechanics may end up being important in the quest.
>>
>>33668627

Drawanon that's amazing. The look on her face is perfect.

My thoughts on Finn has always been the tall lithe type, hasn't really grown into his body fully so some boyish features still play about in that usual mishmash of elven feminine features but sharp lines of a man(pointed chin, strong jawline, cheek bones, etc.), also for some reason his hair has always been blone and in Bjorn Ironside's, from Vikings, style, seemed to fit with the whole warrior thing. Sort of pictured his tattoos to be something like Samoan tattoos, the full body ones are crazy look it up. His armor kind of has me stumped though, the current probably is more of basic leather jerkin with all that entails but his new plate that we got him in Ahm is probably a super streamlined armor, close fit without any real special bits because of his "honed knife" fighting nature. That's just me though, hopefully it helps.

Oh also Aspirational, I'm map guy, I'll get to you this week some time I hope. Been traveling around North Carolina doing some zoning and scouting locations, being an architect is hard work.

Lynn is good grill.

Now just to wait and see for her full stats someday. Because holy crap Lynn is pretty awesome.
>>
>That something within her was obvious despite its weakness. It was like you yet inferior. Like you yet superior.
>“Let’s just say that the royal blood of the dragons is still active within some of them. It adds little value to them but it is detectable by other dragons and that fact means that any dragon with enough of it could potentially form a new kingdom. There are typically a few dragons alive at any time capable of this, though none have attempted as such.”
Oh, look, a royal dragon. She could be useful.
>>
>normally wouldn’t care but somehow this rings wrongly through your body. It’s almost painful to hear her say as much. You are a feldragon. Your father told you that you were going to be a future for a dying race – to hear that you were inferior to a mere peasant from such a dying race-

Got to love Lynn's thought process sometimes. Now let us pray to the heavens that this fight doesn't reach Lairos.
>>
You know, I just realized that we never teased Alice for assuming that every political offer we get is a marriage proposal. Why is she so interested in our Martial status?
>>
>>33672319

You know I'm still not entirely convinced Alyce is even interested in Talon in that sense. Her relationship with Merce, Undine and Gnome, makes me think otherwise.
>>
>>33672397
She might be lesbian, or she might be Bi, true. On the other hand, that's usually a bit of a sliding scale sort of thing rather than a binary option.

Still doesn't mean that we can't tease her about it.
>>
>>33672397
Wasn't it implied that she's read all the smut on Talon?

She read historical books as far as we know, not those fictional novels.
>>
>>33672397
She did flat out say she can see why so many people go for Talon. So I can see it. Though honestly I don't think Talon would be very interested in her. Too much Politics.

>>33672586
Here hoping it doesn't reach Lairos. He doesn't seem to be the type to run around listening to the news.
>>
>>33672594
She read a bit of both but mainly historical. I get the feeling she is trying to get a read on us as to figure out the best way to lure us in.
>>
>>33672629
That and thinking on it Gnome flat out said to seduce her and she would know more then what we do on her type.

>>33669930
> It's implied that uplifting is a pretty complicated process so even doing something potentially similar could end badly.

Time to get Talon and Raphael in a room to figure this shit out.
>>
>>33672685
Actually for uplifting we'd more likely want the Lord of Ember.

And he's busy genociding his own people so...
>>
>>33672731
>Lord of ember

Yeah that would be the first person I would go for. But he is busy genociding everything and Raphael seems like someone Talon can get along with. Which might help with the theoreticals.
>>
>>33672754
Larios also could probably help. He did make the Felldragon's after all. Sure, different powersource, but a lot of his theoretical knowledge would be useful.

>>
>>33672806
>dragontown

THEPLAN.png
>>
>>33672806
>Kicking the merchants out

Lets not. I think the best method right now is to use the king of Termina to shock the hell out of the merchants. Since they don't seem to be expecting an attack given the range. We can then buy out a few of the upper class ones with money and some nobility.

After that it shouldn't be too hard to force to them to surrender. If they don't then we'll have to go full in. Though I do find it strange they know the mage guard doesn't give a crap.
>>
>>33672806
Holy fuck what a terrible plan that will anger everyone including most dragons.

>>
>>33672898
>Wasn't that Tylane?
Yeah, I keep getting the pair of them confused
>>33672898
>Directly next to the mageguard
Sylvan doesn't strike me as the type to allow a genocide of dragons. She essentially argues that a draconic kingdom isn't powerful enough to stand on its own yet. They need protection. Personally though, I'm in favor of initially founding a Mage tower for dragons. Since towers have been described as a cross between a mutual protection society and a magic college. Which sounds like what dragons need right now.
>>
>>33672961
>Sylvan

She doesn't control the guard.
>>
>>33672961

Her issue was mainly about just having a large gathering of Dragons would incite Alot of groups to go all 'Open Dragon Hunting Season' and kill off even more of their dying race...

at least wait on suggesting that until we have a suitably large and powerful nation which CAN defend against all those groups...
>>
So is anyone else getting a little bit of penis envy from the League with their Spellblades and RSK with their specialized mage killers roaming about?

I want a new fancy special unit too.
>>
>>33673134
I honestly assume Talon is already planing to pull it off he just isn't strong enough currently. Though personally I would stick them around harrowmont.

Much safer much easier to control. Though there is an issue in that they would mainly show up for their own kingdom which there is no way in hell Talon would let happen.

Though I do wonder how pissed Sylvan would get if we started making Feldragons again.
>>
>>33673273
We just formed a few special units.
Lynn has just fought to be the head of one.
We have a unit of fox spies, which are among the best one can hope for on the job.
We are also forming a archer knight order.
>>
>>33673273
So far it seems like our plan is go a different route. Bodyguard wise we seem to be focusing on very high class Equipment that are all custom made to the persons talents.

Our big issue is we haven't been around too long so we haven't gotten a chance to train up a powerful unit. I've been thinking about an expert assassin unit for a while now. But in general it seems more efficient to find people who are already powerful then get them to join. Just because it's difficult to tell who can reach the levels needed to be useful.
>>
>>33673449

>Lynn has just fought to be the head of one.

That's a imperial knight order. Not really a special unit.

>We have a unit of fox spies, which are among the best one can hope for on the job.

Not really combatants. Though they are absurdly useful so far.

>We are also forming a archer knight order.

Which reminds me we really need to find some woodsmen or the likes to train these guys on survival in the wilds and other things. The biggest use of a ranger order would be guerrilla warfare and being able to funnel the arcane archers who prove powerful into a higher order.
>>
>>33673527
We already have some men to form the base of Ranger Order. Once it is announced, it will naturally draw talented people since it is pretty much the only way people with those skills get that kinda recognition.
>>
>>33673567
>We already have some men to form the base of Ranger Order.

Yeah I meant that more as someone who is really skilled at surviving off the land. Because in general what we have as the core is just normal soldier level on that.

Actually while talking about archers we really need to figure out what the mastered ones will look like. We know the final upgrade has something to do with summoning..Maybe summoning ammunition instead of just firing ones already used?
>>
>>33673567

So once it is established, Anyone may turn up to undertake a Test of Abilities to see if they have what it takes to train with the order, but to Join requires the nomination from a knight within the order itself... Primary Recruitment would come from the Arcane Archer Corps, but occasionally one of the people who train with them shows enough promise to catch the attention of one of the Knights....

Theoretically gives a stable Core for new knights, but allows for some 'Wild Card' members who add a bit of variation from the AA's Standard Training...
>>
>>33673682
Personally that makes me paranoid about spies so I think we should mainly focus on the Arcane Archers. Unless someone is literally so good they can be considered a unit worth just placing in.

Though I wonder how we will set the imperial order and the Archer order.
>>
>>33673722
Why does it make you paranoid about spies? It will be pretty much like any other knight order.
>>
>>33673746
Mainly because if any highly skilled archer can join it will be rather easy to get someone really skilled then get them in. Mainly because most knights already have ties so it's less likely to pull that off.

It's not a "We shouldn't do it ever feeling" But it does make me slightly watchful on how we do it. That and the Arcane archers are pretty useful right now so I wouldn't want to much info to get out where we can help it.
>>
You know I keep wondering who the hell Lynn means when she said her daddy told her about the passions. She talking about the dragon king? Or is she talking about Lairos there.
>>
>>33673273
Is Gattai Summonings not enough for you Anon?

ARE YOU NOT ETERTAINED!?
>>
>>33673855
She is talking about Tylarne.
>>
>>33673855

She is talking about Tylarne, who she, as far as we know, believes to be her father. The way she talks about him leads to the conclusion she spent at least some time with him before going off on her own. Which is interesting because then it bring up a whole slew of other questions such as, of Lairos is her father how did Tylarne get ahold of her, what was Lairos' plan for her, and omnipresent who was the mother?
>>
>>33674145
Mal found her and they found Tylarne together.
>>
>>33674145
>as far as we know, believes to be her father.

I'm not actually sure she really thinks that. When Sylvan said he was destructive she looked at Talon nervously. So I get the feeling she was wondering he he realized she meant Lairos.
>>
>>33669930
>You haven't seen any negative impacts from healing them at Castle Gimbon but that may be because you didn't actually heal them yourself so much as you pumped huge amounts of magical power into your comrades (which implies they healed themselves with the excess power).
well now, this could be a method for talon to do 1 on 1 healing then

Although, isn't astral power incredibly dangerous to pump into people? I remember talon was handing it off to mal when he did those tests that got him enfeebled. and i remember you saying that the power talon feeds gnome is no longer astral by the time it leaves his body.
So talon has some method of converting astral power to sorcerous power?
>>
>>33672685
>That and thinking on it Gnome flat out said to seduce her and she would know more then what we do on her type.
gnome said to seduce her for political reasons. she was trying to pimp talon out
>>
>>33672806
>Larios also could probably help. He did make the Felldragon's after all.
That was tylarne

Tylarne - blue, the font of eternity, creator of feldragons. Lynn told talon this is her father
Laiors - black, the great wardragon, strongest dragon, goes around destroying everything. Strongly suspected that this is actually lynns dad and she lied about it being Tylarne because reasons.
>>
>>33675569
>For political reasons

Which implies Gnome thinks she could fall for it.

>>33675508
I think when he did the healing it was the equivalent of brute forcing astral out in order to make them gain absurd magical energy. Not so much forcing astral in them. But that's just my guess.
>>
>>33672961
>Sylvan doesn't strike me as the type to allow a genocide of dragons
Sylvan told us she would murder whomever, dragon or talon, that tries to reform a dragon kingdom of weak young dragons because it would result in too much of the race dying. As young weak dragons are best to remain hidden and dispersed.
>>
>>33675617

Not quite single-handedly. She had the help of the Wardens who then became the Mage Guard. The Wardens are pretty powerful themselves.

>>33675508
>So talon has some method of converting astral power to sorcerous power?
He does. It's presumably his soul. Whenever people use any form of magic, astral or sorcerous, they have to convert it to the local variety of magical energy in order to actually do anything in reality. A comparison might be the difference between potential energy and actual energy, though I don't think that's too accurate.

>>33680006
>Also, how would talons compair Lyn and the spellblade to himself now?
Talon is slightly more skilled than pre-transformation Lynn thanks to Battlefield Control II. Iron Body is also more useful in a straight battle than Magical Body and his other abilities give him more versatility. Post-transformation is a whole other ball game.

As for Rayza, he's technically on par with her but I'd vouch for his other abilities over hers (Iron Body, Astral Projection etc).

Alright, so let's say we figure out a way to find an item of power. Are there any that would give Felix the significant enough boost to be on our level? Would him questing for such a thing be of interest to him?

And random other little thought, you mentioned possibly doing a one-shot, if my memory serves correct, what's that going to be about?

Sadly, no. Talon's archery is slightly special so replicating it with another weapon is difficult. Any attempts to use astral power with a tomahawk or other weapon would likely have different effects (just like how your sword is different).

>>33680909
It's probably already gotten to that point so far as some of the girls are concerned.

>>33680770
The funny part is that both of them would be pretty used to it. They're both incredibly promiscuous foxes who often had to meet over serious matters.

Phrace would have been Top 8. He picked up a fancy new enchanted war-hammer somewhere (you suspect Salamander purchased it for him).

>>33680852
>Are there any that would give Felix the significant enough boost to be on our level?
Well, there's some that would make him powerful but most items of power are based more around giving somebody like Talon more versatility than making a peasant into a demigod. He'd be interested in questing for one but it might be a waste of time if he doesn't know where a useful one is.

>one-shot
I was thinking I would take up the idea of doing one-shots to introduce some of the items of power, particularly those won't show up in the quest (like two of the Living Steel swords).

They're mostly happy with the decision to move the vamps out. There's still a few troublemakers unhappy you didn't kill them all but most people are just trying to move on with their lives now, particularly as they're trying to build new homes outside the city walls rather than underground.
>>
What's Harrowmont been looking like recently? I assume since it's pretty much a military city that a lot of our men that stay there have brought their families in, so some kind of weird mishmash of the three cultures in the Darlesian region, foxes now and Talon's own spin. They build anything of note; like pubs, rec halls, schools, etc? We've seen children before(with the famous CALMER OF CHILDREN scene), what's it like growing up in Harrowmont now? or living there for that matter?

I ask because one of the characters I'm writing lives in Harrowmont and I just want to get a better feel for the city itself. Though it's all going to change once that fox village/second layer of wall is built.

Although Harrowmont is technically a military city most of its population are actually the families of the soldiers. As your soldiers get paid a fair bit (to account for the fact they can sometimes be away from home for months or years) that means their spouses and children have plenty of money. That money has attracted a lot of merchants so the merchant area is pretty bustling, as is the lower half of the outer courtyard which is the thoroughfare for travel between the residential and merchant districts.

Most of the merchants are currently retailers, selling wares they've either imported from the RSK or purchased from the nearby towns and villages. The stalls in the courtyard are mostly villagers who are travelling here to sell their own wares. There's also some recreational places (pubs etc) in the merchant area as well as a school and tavern in the residential district (run by some of the soldiers' spouses).

The real problem you've got is that you're currently keeping the hillside near the outer wall clear but Harrowmont is garnering a lot of interest from the locals. There's a small village, mostly transients but a few permanent residents, just down the hill that your soldiers patrol. Most likely they'll relocate into the fortress once you expand it.

As for culture, you've mostly got Vitrians and Darlesians for your soldiers and their families but the merchants are either RSK or Vitrian. This doesn't cause much tension, because the Darlesians are pretty well off but there is a tendency for them to favour the locals from the villages over the newly established RSK merchants. The keep has an even different culture as you've got the foxes and Talon's retinue around. This will extend out into the rest of the fortress once you establish your admin offices outside the keep (as you won't have enough room).

Caitlyn's Birthday: December 11th

Haven't thought about any others yet. Probably will do so now.
>>
>>33682604
Do we have any naval forces worth mentioning? Not sure how useful they'd be but I love me some boats and pirates.
>>
>>33682604

Make sure to ask Sala exactly why she has 3 Birthdays, and tell Taira that Birthdays don't happen when you feel like having one...
>>
>>33682604

Oh that little village sounds neat, I like little details like that. Thanks for that write up man, it's just something of interest to me.

>>33682865

I actually wonder how Elemental Birthdays work. When they are summoned for the first time? Created? Whenever the fuck they feel like?
>>
>>33682604
How hard is it to go from Vet to elite troops? Is there anything special in the process or does it just take a really long time of waring?
>>
>>33682823

>mfw another navybro

You're alright by me Anon.

I still want to conquer a nearby island and turn it into a trade hub/rest area/tourist trap and just rake in the dosh.
>>
>>33682604
When's Alice's? I sorta want to give her a pattern for her birthday once we make some.
>>
>>33682604
>As your soldiers get paid a fair bit (to account for the fact they can sometimes be away from home for months or years) that means their spouses and children have plenty of money.

You know it has to really suck to be them when he dies.
>>
>>33682143
This has to happen.
>>
>>33682999

Oh yeah that's a good point Anon. I wonder what widows and younger men/women do for work to make a livable living.

Very hard. Elite troops aren't just used to fighting, they're exceptionally good at it. They attain it by fighting a lot and becoming hardasses.

>>33682912
Elementals don't really have birthdays. They don't really remember any of their time before they were first summoned.

>>33682823
>>33682963
I'll probably need to do some work on the navy at some point. Right now it's just a few general points. It will matter once you start dealing with the RSK as most major Malataine and Pharos trade routes run past them (the alternative being to go around the north-side which takes longer and you can't go to shore thanks to the Barrier).

There's probably a few islands around the south-west regions of the RSK.

>>33682972
You'll probably need to bribe Merce to find out. Alyce tends not to share much on private matters.
>>
>>33683137

couldn't we get Alyce's Birthday from Gnome? or at least get Gnome to send stuff off at the appropriate time if she refused to tell us on a case of 'ask her yourself'/'not my business to tell you that' kind of thing...
>>
>>33683137
>bribe Merce to find out.

And by bribe you mean tell her it's an integral part of an elaborate plan to embarrass her further?

Somehow the fact that Undine and Gnome would know completely eluded me.

Tsucchi’s Birthday: October 2nd
Karise’s Birthday: September 21st
Felix’s Birthday: April 18th
Neir’s Birthday: October 25th
>>
>>33683412
>Taira’s Birthday: Smarch 32nd
Dammit Taira, theres no such month as Smarch!
>>
>>33683412
>Sarah’s Birthday: November 2nd

Alright so either Talon is going to be awful at remembering birthdays or we'll just assume there was an off screen celebration. The former sounds hysterical.
>>
>>33683412
>Merce’s Birthday August 19th

You know we should really one day send her a gift basket or something. Just for the laughs of her wondering why the hell Talon cared long enough to remember it.

>Tarfinn’s Birthday: April 4th

Time to get the fancy champagne out.
>>
>>33683508

There is now Anon. I demand that be the canon name for the month in setting.
>>
>>33683557
Fine but only if we tell Ren, that we had to create a new month just for her birthday in order for her to join or something.

That was my fault, actually. I thought it was October still in-quest. I might do a flashback in the social thread.

>>33683508
If it's never her birthday she can't get older.
>>
>>33683601

Aw I liked the idea of Talon being terrible at remembering birthdays but able to just spout off the dates of battles, wars, historical moments at the drop of a hat. It sounded amusing to me.
>>
>>33683601
I seriously doubt shes not gonna demand a birthday or several once the other girls start getting theirs.
>>
>>33683601
>If it's never her birthday she can't get older.

Why do I see Talon calling every women he sleeps with grandma now. Jesus most have centuries on him by this point.
>>
Hey Aspirational what happened with the Mage's blowing shit up and Familiar events? I knew you were pressed for time yesterday, but curious all the same.
>>
>>33683412
>Maloric’s Birthday: January 17th
Aww yeah mah nigga
>>
>>33683741

Catlyn & Sarah are younger than Talon...
>>
Delayed response.

>>33681394
>Phrace would have been Top 8. He picked up a fancy new enchanted war-hammer somewhere (you suspect Salamander purchased it for him).

Phrace was probably hyped as fuck for that. HMK with a warhammer sounds fucking awesome. I wonder who has a crush on who here.
>>
>>33683844

And Undine is only 50 some. Technically old enough to be his mother, and damn it if she doesn't act like it with all her dotting. I felt legitimately bad whenever we held her back from saving Finn from Rayza.

>Mage's blowing shit up
The mages greatly enjoyed themselves, as they usually do when they're being rewarded for blowing shit up with reckless abandon. Great way to liven up the tournament after a few days. Aside from events focused on speed of casting and blowing up large and dense objects there was a silly one open to everybody that involved blowing up a hay bale in the most fabulous way possible.

It was won by an adept who fired a rainbow after a dance sequence. The haybale was then immolated by a prismatic fire that occasionally fired off small fireworks. Everybody was impressed but nobody wanted to know why he had developed that spell.

>Familiar event
It got a bit silly. Most familiars refused to fight Sala but were interested in testing themselves against Gnome. Then they faced off and caused far too much damage to the arena, which meant Gnome had to spend an hour fixing the mess she caused. Then Sala fought a bunch of familiars at once and lost, but not before destroying the arena again.

>>33683868
Sala tends to dote a bit on good warriors. It's probably part of the reason Phrace is improving so fast himself.
>>
>>33684053
>Sala tends to dote a bit on good warriors.

Her instant attraction to Talon makes so much sense now.
>>

Hahahaha What the hell random Mage.

I wish we could have watched both of those events it sounds hysterical.

God damn it Aspirational. Now I see some random mage doing the dance from thriller before flipping around and firing a rainbow firebeam.

So, when will Talon and Karise's husband do it? A Vad is fine too, or Ren.
>>
>>33685079
> Karise's husband

Only if a Karise is on the line.

>>33684053
Actually I'm kind of curious now. How many threads would you guess we are away form figuring out what Talon is?

You'll be finding out something during the flashback which is planned post-Termina. So 5-6 threads?

>>33685079
I'm still unsure if I'll ever do that sort of a scene or anything close. I think I'd need to a devil's three-way at some point before I even went near that.
>>
>>33685308
>I think I'd need to a devil's three-way

Don't do it Aspirational. At first it may sound fun then you realize how you'll have to remember this random guys dick for the rest of the ages.

;_;

>So 5-6 threads?

My rules is to always add 10 to all time estimates. Though I do find it interesting that Termina is so easy to make fall.

I meant writing one, not actually participating in one. I suspect the trick to writing one (from my perspective) would be to focus on what is happening to the woman rather than what the other guy is doing to her. You can do that in writing, if not IRL.
>>

I'm sure.

Though just to ask has Mercenie's opinion gotten any higher? Or is she mainly just using him to tag team the Alyce.

It hasn't changed much from when you were in Ahm, but it was okay then. You did well enough in your military endeavours to impress her a bit.

>>33686020
That's not factoring in what Lyn did right?
>>
>>33686020
That's interesting. I love how hilarious she is around the archmage. You can practically feel the exasperation Alyce is having half the time when those 3 are in the same room.
>>
>>33686020
How do you think Alyce would react to us asking why she keeps assuming that every political negotiation we're involved in includes a marriage proposal? Why is she so interesting in our marital status?
>>
>>33686201
One of these days I swear I"m going to do a write in that asks that. Especially after she assumed a fucking dragon was coming here to marry Talon.

>>33686259
To be honest, that was partially the fault of the phrasing Talon used.
