There is no training equipment on the ship, so you instead do some situps and neewri agrees that maybe a little strength wont be so bad, he mentions that in the Manti military system people are selected to specialist and any going outside of their specialization is not allowed and will result in termination.

Neewri gains 2 strength.

On another note, is it only me has the quest steadily lost momentum?

It's because of the time you're running probably, West Coast has gone to bed and you might not have caught the Aus/EU audience yet (it's pretty early in EU anyway and I don't know how many Asia/Australia questing anons are around anyway). I know Naga Space Pirate Quest used to run around this time and got barely 60 posts/thread but doubled that by starting 8 hours earlier for example. Just a slow time of day.
>>
>>33717864
They do it so well that almost all of the energy transmission between the engine room and the lasers is perfect, meaning your lasers are much more effective than they otherwise would have been. Neewri and Forty have pretty much confirmed they are good friends now.

-1 Mining Laser
-2 Small lasers
+New ship weapons mounted

As the engine is heating up for leaving the planet, a new transmission comes from the VIOARR Mission Center.

<
DEAR CAPTAIN:
YOU HAVE BEEN RANDOMLY SELECTED TO SERVE VIOARR.

If the only advantage we have over them is the ship itself, we better practice evasive manuevers and rapid firing.
>>
>>33717946
As you fly up into space and take the route directly going to the Trade Route, the ship detects something and displays the following warning:

< A NEARBY STAR IS EMITTING SPECIAL WAVES - A SMALL GROUP OF SPECIFIC SPECIES MAY SUFFER SIDE EFFECTS FROM PROLONGED EXPOSURE. RANGING FROM NAUSEA, MENTAL PROBLEMS, HEALTH PROBLEMS, TUMORS AND OTHER MUTATIONS. WITH CURRENT ROUTE YOU WILL BE IN THE WAVE ZONE FOR 5 STRAIGHT HOURS. >

The new suggested route will take 3 days, eating up valuable supplies.
There is no list of what species may suffer from the waves, but it stresses it is very few species.

What do you do?

Well, ask if any of our crew know they will/won't be affected. And if none of them are aware of issues, risk it.

>>33718137
No one are away if they will be affected, although Forty says that he is, in fact, immune to this kind of wave, and so should orcs be, since he was guarding another orc a place where these waves were active all the time.

You decide to take the chances and go through the waves.
You now have some time to spend with your crew members, or you can just 'skip' to when you are at the ODIN ships.
>>
>>33718222
Ask Forty more about his previous space-traveling experience.
Ask Fluff how she leaned to be a navigator.

Inquire about everyone's abilities at shooting and evading. Train the ones who are good at each.

Make some crude spikes and place them in the ship such that they are hard to spot but easy to avoid if you know where they are.

Ask Neewri and Forty what's needed to improve the Mining Laser's efficiency, and the possibilities of overclocking them.
>>
>>33718303
>overclocking a laser
Is that a thing. It doesn't sound like a thing.
>>
Rolled 59

>>33718325
Well it depends on how the laser produces the light, and the materials that handle and focus said light. It's possible that adding more power will increase the strength of the laser, but the lens/some other crap would melt from prolonged use at such rates.
>>
>>33718265
>Ask Forty more about his previous space-traveling experience.
>Forty: I have been on various planets guarding various races, i was mostly shut down while i was being transported. I guarded anything from political figures to families. The only reason i am still in service after my services and unneeded is because i volunteered to join the VIOARR fleet.

>Ask Fluff how she learned to be a navigator.
>Fluff: My previous job was a, uh, mobilized vendor and transporter, i flew around to various clients all over the galaxy. I decided to change job to this after i was starting to get tired of having to fly around all the time with nothing really to do and no variation.

>Soo...he doesn't know? Not very clear.
No one on your crew are too well acquinted with material properties, Neewri knows engineering so he was the best suited to inspect it. He found no anti-radiation properties in the materials.

>>33718303
>Make fake radiator fins using scrap and attach them to the armored sections of the ship
>Ask Neewri and Forty what's needed to improve the Mining Laser's efficiency, and the possibilities of overclocking them.
You do not have the equipment to leave the spaceship and make exterior modification while in the void

>Ask Forty if he has any training programs/regiments
>Forty: Sorry, i was never given training protocols. If i trained my clients back in the day they would not need to pay my manufacturers anymore. It is pretty morally terrible, but i am not programmed to experience hate, so it is just <POSITIVE NOUN>.

>Inquire about everyone's abilities at shooting and evading. Train the ones who are good at each.

Strength, Reflexes and perception is mostly used in foot combat.

damn, I meant piloting and gunnery. Which stats are linked to those, and does Fluff's navigation skills give her a bonus to ship evasion?

You tell everyone to be alert. After a bit of shooting asteroids you determine that Neewri and Fluff are the best at using the ships lasers (Equally skilled)

Reflexes and Perception for both Piloting and Gunnrey. Intelligence can also be useful though for knowing where to shoot, like knowing a ships blueprint. Fluff is also more skilled and evading shots due to her navigation and experience about flying ships.

You near the ship for optimal weapon usage an they contact you once you get close enough

>Hello fellow Captain. I'm Captain Beaker. No disrespect to you, but if you are here because we are executing ODIN orders and you are planning on stopping us, we will have no choice but to destroy you, your crew and your ship. Nothing personal.
>>
Rolled 95

>>33718665
"Nothing personal, indeed."

Focus the lasers on a single section of the hull and try to breach it.
>>
>>33718665
Ask them what their orders are.
>>
Rolled 59

>>33718731
Please roll a d100 when making decisions. I can let it fly forgetting to do it when multiple actions can be done at the same time, like talking with more people, but in action it is either/or, where only one action can be done. I'll roll for you.
>>
>>33718631 We need this dude.

>>33718731
>Enemy Captain Beaker: Can you give me one good reason to tell an enemy ship inside information?

>>
Rolled 45

>>33718807
>To avoid unnecessary combat, endangering your mission.
>>
>>33718837
Roll with a d100
Comparing your ships strength you will have to roll lower than 30. But due to your intimidation bonus, you only have to roll lower than 55 to intimidate them
>>
Rolled 98

>>33718905
Alright, let's see.

>Critical Failure

>Enemy Captain Beaker: I really doubt that any violence from you can harm us or halt the mission. You should be glad that i am not making your ship into a scrap scavenger hunters wet dream. Please, i don't WANT to kill anyone here, especially not a poor soul from the Vioarr Confederation. Nice outfits though, it seems they have actually stepped their game when it comes to uniforms, but, whats up with that Manti dude covering his mouth? Isn't that like a medical thing?
>>
>>33718964
>Explain to him the intricacies of Manti fashion
>>
>>33719004
You don't know too much about Manti fashion, so you instead make Neewri explain
>Neewri: Well, while i do like this uniform it was provided after i took the test and scans to be a part of the fleet, i don't know if it actually is medical, but i doubt it.
>Enemy Captain Beaker: To be honest i don't know too much about it but mouth covering tends to be used for, uh, i'll let you guys figure it out yourself.

You notice that the enemy ship is about to fly over to another trade ship, now might be a good time to be a hero.
>>
Rolled 81

I'm starting to get confused on what Critical Failures actually do
>>
>>33719058
This case they actually feel less threatened by your intimidation.
>>
Rolled 90

>>33719065
Fine, fine, just let things happen already.

>>33719054
Hail the trade ship, tell them to run.

Shoot Beaker while he's busy opening comms to tell us to go away.
>>
>>33719189
You send a signal to the trade ship telling them to head away and warn them about the ODIN ship.

By shooting beaker, i am guessing you mean shooting his ship.

Okay, roll a d100 for how well you hit him, anything less than 75 will hit him, but the lower the better.
>>
Rolled 15

>>33719235
Yup, Rolling
>>
>>33719250
...considering how terrible my last three rolls were, I was expecting much worse.
>>
>>33719250
You allowed Fluff to aim and shoot, and she hit just in the power generator room, making the ship only run on backup batteries now. The ship fires a beam back, but due to the lack of abundant energy it barely hurts your ship.
Their limited amount of energy also makes them unable to escape from you.
Beakers falls down on the ground and you hear him shout
"ALPHA PLAN 5, ALPHA PLAN 5, GET TO ROOM 31"

What do you do now?
>>
>>33719296
Monitor his ship's activity closely, stand by for another laser-barrage.
>>
Rolled 41

>>33719296
Search for the ship's comms: blow them.
>>

Shoot
Shoot some more
Shoot shoot Mctoot
and when enemy is gone, get scraps or something.

You hit the ship once more, and you hit the ship in the bed chambers, the ship is now uninhabitable.
You notice Beakers is no longer on the monitor, and that their energy levels fell suddenly and drastically.
What do you do now?
>>
Rolled 20

>>33719367

How long does the oxygen is spacesuits last?

But really, get ready to board. But take your time, they're not going anywhere and the more time we use the more they're using their oxygen.
>>

You decide to sweep the ship for intruders, so your crew goes to the different parts of the ship, you decide to stay in the control deck.
You hear some people scream in another room, you can't hear who it is because it is muffled through the walls.
What do you do?

>What do you do?

Well, some soothing jazz would perhaps help. Or opera.

If neither of those are options, banging on the wall and hollering "HEY! KEEP IT DOWN IN THERE, WILLYA?" may get the desired result.
>>
Rolled 16

>>33719471
wait, that's what we get for a 20 and a 24?

I mean, was I supposed to emphasize buddy system and strategically walking right behind the traps or something?

Rolls matter when i say "Skill Check" and "Luck Check" and so on in that fashion. Otherwise it is just the lowest roll that get to decide, sometimes someone rolls lower but do it slightly before i made the post, so i can't see it in time.

>>33719480
As you are about to go out and inestigate, Beaker opens the door with a laser pistol ready, he seems to be twitching like mad
>Beaker: BACK OFF! RIGHT NOW, HANDS UP EVERYTHING. I am Commandeering your ship, you GODDAMN SCUM. Do you have ANY idea what i've been through to get to this point? I sold that starshine drug on the street for HALF MY LIFE to get enough money so i could escape. I made so many connections to get a fake ID to get into ODIN. I've done nothing but work for other people my entire life and being a bottom bitch. I finally had something, i passed the captains test under my new identity, 'Beaker', i finally owned something, i finally had control over my life. I've done so much for ODIN, i became an Honor captain. I try and be nice, i try and let everyone go, but it is people like YOU who makes us having to kill people. I've done nothing to YOU. Do you have ANY IDEA WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON? DO YOU KNOW WHAT THOSE TRADE ROUTES FUND? HAVE YOU EVER EVEN TALKED WITH ANYONE FROM ANOTHER CONFEDERATION? Vioarr is nothing but brainwashed zombies, they don't care about you. I'm trying to help you people the most peaceful way possible. I only want to help, but you, youuuu, made me do this. Give me a single reason why i should not pull this trigger, you are beyond saving.
>>
Rolled 31

>>33719643
Make the exact same speech, but use our past. When we get to the last sentence, change it to talking about military training instead of wasting time selling drugs, which INCLUDES hand-to-hand combat against armed opponents, effective within 3 meters.

I've seen more comrades in arms die than you can imagine and it never gets easier for me no matter how often it happens. It is people like YOU that makes us having to kill, we diden't do anything to YOU, you could just have ignored ODIN's orders. ODIN is nothing but heavily manipulated highassed twinks. You shouldn't pull that trigger because i am trained in hand-to-hand combat, and because you left the safety on.

He is now distracted with seeing if the safety is on, roll to see if you can successfully knock him out. Less than 35 for strenth, but due to your combat bonus and distraction just roll less than 65 to knock him out.

You knocked the gun out of his hand and kneecapped him in the forehead, it seems you hit him a bit harder than anticipated and instead he is probably dead now and is bleeding on the floor.
The other rooms have gone silent as well, maybe your crew members have defeated any other intruders? or dead?

You search the ship and, ofcourse, pick up the gun first.
You find your crew who grouped together after the scream, there was apprently only enough energy to teleport Beaker and this... person, he got stuck on the trap while fighting with Fluff. Fluff seems injured.

The ship has no medbay, but there are very basic medical supplies, Instead you tell her to go to her sleeping cabin and recover, Forty decides to follow her to treat her.

Neewri grabs the body and carries it away, he then returns to take beakers corpse and also carries it away.

You are now alone, and very exhausted now that the adrenaline is starting to vanish.
What do you do?
>>
Rolled 61

>>33720305
Gun maintainance, move the ship towards the ODIN ship.
>>
Rolled 84

>>33720305
Eat some food while moving towards the other ship
>>
>>33720357
You clean the gun and learn a bit about it's weight and grip, it can now be utilized by you easily.
You go back to the control deck and fly closer to the other ship.
Although you will need something to tie someone to the ship if you want to collect scraps, as well as something that could protect someone from being ripped to pieces in space.
>>
Rolled 4

>>33720541
So what you're saying is that we don't have spacesuits.

Check if the hole we put in the engine was shut off before it turned the entire ship airless. If it didn't, we can still dock. If the pressure is still a vacuum, we can send Forty, right?
>>
>>33720595
You are now right next to the ship. It seems that the docking entrance is still functioning, and the hallways still have normal pressure levels, but we know we've blown up 2 rooms which now lead to the void nad has a massive vacuum, sucking anyone out if opened, and we have no idea what the floorplans are, so opening doors in the ship will be a form of Russian roulette.

What do you do now?
>>
Rolled 95

>>33720686
Get FORTYSIX6167 to explore. Since shes a machine she can last in a vacuum. Only problem would be retrieving her.
>>
Rolled 75

>>33720686
Well, we have the mining laser, a precision cutter. We can open the holes we made and view the rooms inside. Extrapolating from that, we can see which rooms are compromised and which doors not to open.

Whether all of this is worth the effort on the other hand...
>>
>>33720757
I don't get what you are trying to do, making holes to see what is inside will just make make more holes in the rooms that will make that room also have acces to the void making the pressure deadly.
>>
Rolled 38

>>33720957
Open up the holes we ALREADY made, which is why I said precision. By restricting the cuts to rooms that are already vacuumed, you can get a better look at the inside and estimate the floor plan, or at least which parts of the ship not to go into.
>>
>>33720957
I think he means to widen the holes in the damaged areas so you can check if the room sealed off from the non-damaged parts. Thus we know the location of which rooms are currently non-oxygenated. Making it easier to explore the interior.
>>
>>33721015
>>33721023
Sounds reasonable, you cut the holes even bigger so you have a better sense of what rooms are dangerous.
You also see some dead bodies in the distance, most likely people who used to be in the bed chambers before you blew it up.
Do you wish to board the ship with your crew?
>>
>>33721127
Yes
>>
>>33721127
Just Forty, I believe, he's a robot and doesn't need oxygen to breathe
>>
Rolled 17

>>

>>
>>33721423
You, Neewri and Forty entered the enemy docking passage, you find a high securty door with a keypad obstructing the entrance to the ship.
>>
>>33721551
Check if its unlocked. The power outage might have unlocked it.
>>
Rolled 99

>>33721551
