Let's pick up where we left off.

You've been staring at the door to the Gym for a while now. You don't know how long, you've lost track of time.
You know what lies beyond it. You just don't know if you're ready for the pain again.

Well you'll need to come to a decision soon. You can feel your Dream Value ebbing away, not counting the extra lack that your success here will give you. You're going to wake up soon.

You fling the door open, attempting to appear as confident and intimidating as possible. You flip a cartwheel fairly successfully though you're not quite sure if that improves your intimidating image or not.
Either way you probably look like a wet dishrag in human incarnation so it can't hurt.

The strongman raises an eyebrow at your display. You waste no time in presenting your hand to him.
"Sh-shake it, bitch."
That sounded more terrifying in your head.

You flex your newfound musculature and take his hand in yours. You can do this. You just have to believe in yourself.

Counting all of them, thankfully

Somehow your entrance, which should have made you look like a complete moron, only made you look like a little mentally challenged. Which could be said to be an accurate depiction, you suppose. You were always gonna need a ludicrous amount of luck to make that cartwheel scary.

But in the end that's all just window-dressing. The real challenge lies within the shake itself. The clash of two souls, mind against mind, body against body. Handshakes are used in the outside world as a cultural greeting for a reason. The gesture descends from ancient times when men would arm-wrestle each other for dominance as a meeting ritual. The winner would take his pick of the loser's wives.
You don't have any wives so you can't really afford to lose again.

He squeezes down painfully but you squeeze back as hard as you can in response. You're like, twice as strong as you were than last time. You can do this!
Unfortunately he's still far stronger than you. But unlike before, you are not so weak to be driven to your knees. None of your bones are breaking at all.

After an uncomfortable few seconds, he withdraws his hand.
"...That's alright, I suppose. They say you can judge a person by their handshake."
Do they? Do they REALLY?
"You're pretty swole. I like that."

Good for you.
"Thank y-you. D-"

"Do you have this?"
He pulls a black key out of his pocket. It looks identical to the key you got from the safe.

"I already have that. I think."

"Well, all of these things have a place they belong. You know where keys go, don't you?"

He does the standard fadeaway, the crystal being left behind fusing with you. You're getting pretty blase to the process by now.

Dream Value: 30

When he leaves, so do the spectators. You're left alone in the arena with the suspended rope leading upwards into nothingness.

So if this is the dream version of the Gymnasium, is this rope the dream version of the trapdoor? It strikes you that a lot of quirks or oddities in the Dream World may be tells for something in reality.
Is it your subconscious mind trying to tell you something? You barely know what your conscious mind is thinking at any given time, let alone any layers deeper than that.

You climb up the knotted rope right to the top. When the rope disappears, so do you.

You are now in a darkened grotesque room. There is a small safe in the center of the room. It is open and you can see that someone has ripped out the back of it. The safe now contains a small portal to somewhere green inside of it.

Can you fit your head into the portal?

>>
>>33728719
>>33728788

You bend down and with a bit of a struggle, fit your head into the small safe and through the portal on the other side.

What you find doesn't seem to map any part of the real world House that you know of. Rolling hills coated in emerald green grass surround you. There's a large forest off to the left and a huge oak tree to the side.
The portal seems to come out within a circle of mossy standing stones atop a small mound.
You can't fit the rest of your body through it no matter how hard you try.

You manage to extract your head from the safe, only bumping it twice. You put your arm through it and grab a handful of soil. It feels like the soil you put in your Garden troughs back in real life.

>>33729206
>wake up

You decide to wake up, only to realise that you don't actually know how to do that.
After a bit of thought you slam your head against the wall. That seems to do the trick.

...

You wake up back in your curved real-life bedroom. You're dressed just in a towel again since you dont seem to take dream clothes back with you. The clod of wet earth is still in your hand. It's messing up your sheets.

You're feeling a bit hungry.

You have another shower which, while it doesn't plug your stomach, does make you feel a lot better. A lot of times in your life you accidentally go for days or weeks without showering just because you forget about it.

You dress yourself in a towel again and go check out the safe. It seems to have been moved from your bedroom while you were sleeping and is no doubt back where it originally came from.
You go back down to the Basement and retrieve the Gym Key from the Quadruple Key Hook. You sort of wonder what the point of a fancy Quadruple Key Hook is if it only ever holds the Gym and Garden keys.
But then again, a lot of shit in your life doesn't make sense anymore.
You give the stinkeye to the Values Adjuster on your way out.
On your way from the Basement to the Gym, you collect the Extension Corded Laptop from underneath your bed. You're going to need a lightsource.

Opening up the Gym once more, you unlock the Trapdoor again with the Silver Key and climb upwards.
The room is still empty save for the safe. And the safe has nothing in it. Nothing seems to have changed. You put the clod of soil in the safe but that doesn't do anything.

Maybe the safe-portal was less of a direct hint and more of a metaphor or something with regards to what you found inside it. But all that was ever in it was the Black Key which doesn't open shit.

At no point during any of this do you realise that you woke up and immediately sprung into action without having to do any of your usual thought exercises.

The Housemate is still in his chair. No sign of movement whatsoever. You find that you don't feel the need to hesitate around him anymore. He's just a mannequin.

You poke the Food Delivery Chute around and decide to order randomly. You get a cheese pizza which you devour in minutes. There aren't any secret messages hidden with this delivery like there was last time.
You don't want to admit that you were hoping for a little more aide from your mysterious benefactor but it certainly couldn't have hurt.

Hunger Value: 100

It's a brand new day and you haven't gotten visibly closer to being free. The dreams might help you out a little but you're sure that any real escape you do, you'll need to do it in your physical body.

You have an idea on how to get through the Dreamworld safe. If you're going to use that awful machine you might as well make the best of it, right?

But first, while you're in the Basement, you offload two of your spare Keys onto the empty spaces of Quadruple hook. You put the Gym Key as back, upping its Quantity Value from 75 to a full 100. It is now maxed out.

The Doorwheel sitting beside you starts glowing. Has it gotten a little rounder? You know that's not possible since it was already a perfect circle but that’s almost what it feels like, as if a true circle has more than a mere 360 possible degrees. It now has eight sections, even though they all take up the same amount of degrees as they always did.

The Doorwheel now reads
1) Basement
2) Garden
3) Gymnasium
4) Kitchen
5) Rumpus Room
6) Bathroom
7) Closet
8) Entrance Hall

The Keyhook retracts into the wall and disappears, dumping all four keys onto the floor. You pick them up.

You walk out into the Bedroom, noting that there is now a Door 8. Standing before it, you check yourself over one more time to make sure your not missing anything.

Inventory
Clothing Slot: Towel
Left Hand Slot: Black Key, Silver Key, Gym Key, Garden Key, Magician Key
Right Hand Slot: Laptop w/Extension Cord

You try to push Door 8 open but it doesn't budge. It's locked. You try all five keys on it and it is with the last, the key given to you by the Magician that the door yields.

Beyond is a short carpeted hallway ending in another door. The door has a sign engraved on it saying 'EXTERIOR'. Looking back at the door you just came from, you note that on this side it has a sign saying 'INTERIOR'.

In the center of the hallway between both doors is a double-sided Doorwheel. The side facing the Interior door has five options, labelled Cell 1, Cell 2, Cell 3, Cell 4 and Cell 5. It is currently set to Cell 1, which you can only assume to have been your House. The side facing the Exterior door has four options, labelled Cafeteria, Control Room, INTERHUB and Barracks. It has not yet been set to anything.

There is a Quadruple Hat-rack standing in the corner. It currently has a Quantity Value of 0.

>>
>>33731325
>Get dressed
>Turn wheel to cell 2
>>
>>33731388
>Check doors

Neither of the doors are locked. The door marked EXTERIOR won't open more than a crack however. You probably have to use the Doorwheel to actually set it to a location first.

>>33731410

Hold on! You need to get dressed first! You're in no shape to go exploring unknown while virtually naked. You go back inside the House to change clothes.
You leave the door propped open with your laptop. Just in case.

You pick out a gray t-shirt and plaid dress from your Closet. After a few moments of thought, you take a pair of sneakers as well.

Now properly attired, you go back out into the Entrance Hall again and close the INTERIOR door behind you. You need to disconnect your Extension Cord from the power outlet to do this, unfortunately.

You spin the Interior-facing 'wheel to Cell 2 and then open the door. Instead of opening it into your House it...opens into a near-perfect replica of your house.
You look through it. It's exactly the same save that it is devoid of all life or belongings. It's been cleared out, abandoned.

You go back and check Cells 3-5. They're all the same. Empty shells of houses with no signs of life. There's no way they'd build five of these places when they're only housing you. Did you once have four cellmates?

>>
>>33731749
>>33731835
>>33731930

You decide to explore what lies through the EXTERIOR door. Are you in some kind of facility?
You plan to look through all of it but you spin the Doorwheel to Control Room first to start it off.

It's a small metal room, most of which is taken up by a bank of monitors.Right now they’re showing images of your cell! Every room in it is visible from here. You have never seen any cameras though...has it always been like this?
There’s a dial to the side of the monitor bank, numbered one to 5. It is currently set to one.

There is an armoured lockbox beneath the monitors. It is currently closed.

Aside from the door to the Entrance Hall, there are two more doors here. The first one is labelled ‘EXIT’. The second door isn’t labelled anything and has a padlock attached to it.

You jam every key into both the lockbox and the padlock but to no avail. None of your current Keys are good enough for the job!

>>33732151

The 'Exit' door is also locked but after a few tries, you manage to unlock it with the Magician Key. You try to push it open but even unlocked, it still refused to budge!

After a few pushes you divine the cause for the door jam. There's something very large and heavy on the other side of this door and until you find a way to get it out of the way you're not going to be able to get access.
>>
>>33732346
Try going to the interhub
>>
>>33732346
Examine the camera monitors. Maybe they can show the source of the blockage.
>>
>>33732409
>examine monitor bank

All of the cameras seem to be focussed on your domicile. They don't show anything of main facility itself. You flip the dial's Values around from 1 to 5 but all it does is let you look into some of the empty cells that you just explored.

>>33732368
>INTERHUB?

You back out of the Control Room and into the Entrance Hall. Shouldn't there be people manning those monitors anyway? Why have a Control Room if there's nobody there to do the controlling?
You fiddle with the Exterior Doorwheel until it reads INTERHUB.

This room is also metal, making it the second non-plastic room you've ever seen in your life. It's quite a bit bigger than the Control Room.
Most of the room is taken up by a huge server. This squat metal behemoth is the INTERHUB, the fierce guardian of your Wifi connection. Though you have never seen it before you know it to have been one of the constants of your life, through the internet it has given you if nothing else.
There is a panel full of unlabelled buttons that you don’t know the purpose of. Next to them is a red lever labelled ‘Parental Controls’. It is currently set to ON.
>>
>>33732639
Turn parental controls to off.
>>

>Turn lever to off
>>
>>33732708
>>33732736

You pull the lever down to OFF. Nothing exciting happens to the server itself as a result. Something beeps within the machine so something probably happened.

A few seconds later and your laptop starts making bing noises. It's your Chatterspeak program. It seems like Speakatron wants to talk to you?
That's odd. The bot's never initiated a conversation before.

>>33732930

You make a note of your laptop's Battery Value as you crack it open. It seems to be sitting comfortably at 78 or so. You have plenty of time.

You pull up the chat window and type 'Hello'.

It takes a few seconds for Speakatron to reply, another oddity. During your previous conversations, he'd always answered instantly. No doubt due to being a robot. In hindsight it's a little embarrassing how long you kept on believing he was a real person you could trust.

-help me
-did you disable the parental lock?

You've entered a proper dialogue all of a sudden! Your mind focuses in bemused delight. For communication purposes you are suddenly supplied with prompts.

[ ] Yes I did
[ ] No?
[ ] Who are you?
[ ] Please go away Speakatron

>>33733084
While you're chatting with the laptop in your hand, you figure you can multitask and walk around as well. Time to go back to the Entrance Hall and check out the Cafeteria!

The Cafeteria is the largest room you have ever seen. It’s a huge room filled with tables and benches, all of them empty and deserted. Over your head you can see many Food Chutes extruding from walls and running through the ceiling, all of them leading behind the food counter into the Staff Kitchen.

The walls are covered in employee posters and motivational slogans. You look at them for a bit. One poster shows a picture of some sort of bowler hat, reminding all employees to keep their official hats on them at all times for convenience. There’s posters advertising free employee testing of new prototype ‘laser rifle’ being developed. The only other one of interest that you find is a picture of someone happily sleeping, a written reminder to keep the subjects’ Dream Values low. It even has a warning in the corner about the plants you discovered in your garden earlier.

There are also two doors over in the far corner, one with the stick figure drawing of a man. The other has a stick figure wearing a dress.
>>
>>33733295
[ ] Who are you?

Also, go in the men's room. Be a rebel.
>>
As long as you keep multitasking you can suggest a physical action and a conversation prompt as the same action.

Just keep in mind that while multi-tasking you are less effective and easily distracted. If something you deem to be important comes up, you can choose to put the laptop down.
>>
>>33733337
Check out the warning about the plants

Also go into then other basements.

You make your way over to the door with the male stick figure emblazoned on it. From what you've read in books you know that this is probably a gender-segregated toilet meant for men. You're really not supposed to go in there.

Well too bad, you don't follow anyone's rules but your own! You reach out and grab the handle with a suddenly trembling hand.
Should you really be doing this? It's way too inappropriate!
Too lewd!

You grit your teeth and try to push the door open but in the end your Sin Value of 11 is not robust enough to withstand the taboo. You back away from the forbidden bathroom.

You start walking again as you type, pushing open the door to the Girl's Room. You don't have any issues at all getting in here!

There's nothing too shocking in here. Just a row of cubicles opposite of a row of sinks and mirrors. You take the chance to check your Appearance Value once more.

It's hard to explain. You don't actually look different and yet you look better. Is it just because you feel happy and vaguely free for the first time in a long time? Maybe it does make a difference.

You find a Bronze Key sitting in one of the sinks. You grab it and jam it into a skirt pocket. Basic pattern recognition tells you that it'll come in useful sooner or later.

You close the laptop for now and walk back into the Entrance Hall. Spinning the Exterior Doorwheel again, you set it to the Barracks. It's the last Exterior Destination. You've still seen no sign of any High Security Cell.
>>
>>33737229

The Barracks is a long line of bunk beds and electronic recharging stations, catering for both organic and robotic personnel. To the side is a message board with only three notes up on it. The first is from ‘Angela, Control Cadet’, stating that she lost her key while eating lunch in the cafeteria yesterday and asking for it to be returned if anyone found it. The second note is a reference stating that additional electronic and online security should be kept in place constantly due to the ‘Hi-Sec problem patient’. It also carries a notice saying that the ‘hat level’ to access the Hi-Sec cell has been upped. The third is a poster depicting the crystal beings that you absorb whenever one of your Tarot dreampeople disappear, with the instructions to Shoot on sight.

There is also a door past all of the bunk beds, labelled ‘Supply’.

The general Cleanliness Value still seems pretty damn high. There's a thin patina of dust covering them but not a lot. A few days worth at most.

You go from bunk to bunk, searching for anything that looks interesting. Under one of the bottom bunks you find a black bowler hat. It looks identical to the one that was depicted in the Cafeteria poster.
You consider the implications of this for but a moment before jamming it firmly down on top of your head.
You have a hat now.

The Supply door is unlocked and easy to access but the actual room beyond is almost pitch black. Have the lights burned out?

You open your laptop, ignoring the binging from the Chatterspeak program and use it to illuminate your surroundings.
The Supply Room is filled with shelves, each shelf containing a plethora of flashlights and cellphones. At the very far end of the room, on top of the highest shelf, is a futuristic rifle. All sleek curves and matte black. It's deep enough in shadow that you only just make it out even with your laptop.

It looks like one of the rifles in the Cafeteria posters so you immediately try to acquire it. But the shelf it is on is much too high! You try climbing up using the other shelves as handholds but they don't feel ready to support your weight.
You're nearly a foot shorter than you usually are but even if you were at your regular 6 and a half feet it'd still be difficult.

Holy hell, we're tall as shit.

Take some flashlights, see if they work. Take a couple phones too. Drag a bed from the room into the closet and stand on it. If there's nothing in the room we can drag, pull the shelf over and knock everything off of it.

It's important that we get that weapon. These people could come back and try to "get" us like they did with the guy.

We need to get small anyway if we're going to go through the safe.

They've all been reduced to 0 Battery Value. You'd need to find a place to recharge them first.

>>33737896

If you could get high enough to grab the top shelf and break it you could probably get high enough to just grab the rifle.
You think about just throwing a flashlight but you might damage the fancy prototype rifle in doing so. You throw things pretty damn hard these days.

B-but...the rifle! You can just ask the Cellmate later, can't you?

Well, you're a more modest 5 feet 9 inches now since you traded some of your Height Value for your boosted Strength Value. It's a little disorienting but you're mostly used to it by now.

You go back to the Barracks and grab hold of a bunk and start the slow, arduous task of dragging it into the Supply room. It's loud as hell too. If there any staff lingering after their mystery holocaust then they probably heard that.

Energy Value: 22

The bunk you dragged was connected to a second bed due to the nature of being a, you know, bunk bed. So dragging the whole thing over to the shelf was pretty tiring.

You climb up to the top bunk and from there can stand up and reach the rifle quite handily. It's actually quite small and compact so you can hold it comfortably in one hand. You still need both hands to fire it, of course.

Inventory:

Clothes Slot: Plaid Skirt, Gray T-shirt, Sneakers, Bowler Hat
Left Hand Slot: Laser Rifle
Right Hand Slot: Laptop w/ coiled Extension Cord (Cord not actually plugged into anything)
Pockets Slot: Bronze Key, Black Key, Magician Key, Silver Key, Gym Key, Garden Key
Hat Slot: Empty

The Laser Rifle seems to be missing its...magazine thingy.
You do not understand guns.

Sling the rifle over your shoulder. Charge everything in the multiple sockets.

>>33738332

While we wait, I'd like to propose something: in the dream the safe in the attic lead to another world. In reality, the safe held the black key that we haven't found a use for. In the dream, the closet was like normal except it had a keyhole.

I think we can tentitively conclude that the black key opens a door that leads somewhere important, and if we ever have cause to go back to our cell I suggest that we investigate the closet for a hidden door.

This rifle doesn't have a means for you to sling it over anything. Upon close inspection it doesn't seem to have any features that doesn't directly relate to shooting things.
Well it is just a prototype. If these things were mass-produced for common use they might have a sling. But they aren't so they don't.

You pull out a bunch of flashlights and mobile phones from the Supply room and jam them into the recharging stations in the Barracks. They're way more high tech than the power outlet you got back in your cell. Just a flat metal plate that charges anything electronic placed in contact with it. You'd think that as just blank metal plates their purpose would have been hard to figure out but you've always been able to figure out the purpose of most forms of technology on the fly.
It's how you learned to use your laptop and the jukebox and the other assorted electronic stuff in your cell in the first place after all.

You stick the end of the Extension Cord on top of one of the recharging stations as well to shore up your laptop's Battery Value.

>>33738431

You search the Barracks from one side to the other, checking everything you can but you can't find the rifle's missing part!

>>33738522

Your hat hasn't gone anywhere. The Hat Slot is just a space where you can keep things inside your hat. You haven't put anything underneath your hat yet so it is empty.

>>33738539

The Cellmate is still trying to talk to you. You try to get something new from your internet but it seems like disabling the Parental Lock activated some sort of failsafe as you can no longer use Internet Explorer at all!
And without the internet browser of champions, casual use of the 'net is barred to you.

We need energy. I'd suggest a rest, but that's too dangerous right now. Is there anywhere else in the complex that we haven't searched? I'm not comfortable sleeping until we know we're alone.
>>
>>33738830
Put the rifle on the recharging plate to see if it does anything.

Go to the staff kitchen. I'm curious what's there.

>Is there anywhere else in the complex that we haven't searched?

That you know of? Only the Staff Kitchen and whatever lies beyond the doors within the Control Room have not been searched as of yet.

>>33738963

Putting the rifle on the recharging plate doesn't seem to do anything. If it's missing its battery or power pack then it doesn't really have anything to recharge.

You head back to the Entrance Hall and fiddle with the Doorwheel until you can enter the Cafeteria again.
From there you jump over the counter and into the Staff Kitchen. There is a wide variety of foodstuffs here for the taking if you so wish. There are no cooking machines or devices though. All of the Chutes meet at the back of the Kitchen, twining and melding together disgustingly and erotically, forming the grotesque abomination that is the FOOD HUB.
The FOOD HUB is too incestous and awful for description but judging from some of the connections, the entire thing seems to be supplied from somewhere outside the facility.

You grab a box of crackers from the Staff Kitchen before heading back to the Entrance Hall. You take your bowler hat off and adorn the Quadruple Hatrack with it. You hear a metallic voice.

"Hat Level Check: Overseer-grade. Passable. Please insert the next hat."

Unfortunately the the Hatrack's Quantity Value is just 25. You're going to need more hats.

You re-enter your cell and stumble into the Closet. Pressing yourself against the back wall, you check it all over but you can't find a keyhole or a secret door.
You know that the Dreamworld keyhole here signified something but it seems like that it wasn't this.

Your next stop is the Garden, to uproot and devour some of the imposter weed. You then stagger over to the Values Adjuster in the Basement and remove 20 beads from the He Column, taking it down to 25.

Now only one meter tall, you should be able to squeeze through the safe in the dreamworld! None of your clothes fit you anymore but it shouldn't matter if it's only for one dream.

You try to get your back to the Barracks to sleep there but you run out of Energy Value and are forced to sleep in your Bedroom.

You wake up in the Dreamworld Bedroom, wearing pyjamas as per usual. They've been sized down to fit. You try to get out of bed and you stumble and fall instead.
This might take some getting used to.

You enter the Gym-Arena, climb the magic rope and end up back within the awful dark room with the safe.

Only this time, you're going to be able to fit through it. You manage to squeeze through it but it's still a tight fit even now. You emerge head-first into the world beyond.
