Previously on Prisoner Quest, you expanded the borders of your world, found even more keys and rediscovered the joys of online chatting.

After a bit of finagling and a small bit of severe diminishing, you've forced yourself through the dream portal inside the safe and out the other side.
You are not standing within what appears to be an idyllic countryside. You are in the middle of a small ring of standing stones on top of a hill. The grass is green and the sun is shining.

Too bad it's all just a dream.

There is a large forest just off to your left and just before it, a gnarled oak tree standing separately from the rest. It seems to have a corpse dangling from its highest branch.
You don't really know if you want to go deal with that or not.

[ ] Approach the body
[ ] Skirt well past the hanging tree and enter the forest instead
[ ] Screw this I want to go home.

Aww yiss. Motherfucking prisoner quest.

Check out the body. See it's holding anything, or has anything in its pockets.
>>
>>33755160
[ ] Approach the body
>>
You walk straight over to the tree and stare up at the body. It's a man wearing tattered clothes hanging from a hangman's noose tied around their foot. It sways gently with the wind.

You can't really get a close look at it from all the down here, especially given your current 3'3" perspective. Luckily the lowest branch is still within your reach.
You grab it and pull yourself up, climbing upwards from branch to branch. It takes a bit of work but with your newfound strength it isn't much effort at all.

Dream Value: 90

Sitting atop a branch just below the man, you inch yourself closer. Maybe it has something in its pockets! Probably another key.
The body is in a lot better shape than it looked from a distance. If it wasn't for its current situation you'd think it was-

The man suddenly swivels to face you! You stifle a scream and nearly fall off your branch. He winks.
"Howdy stranger. Care to join me?"

He motions to an empty noose hanging beside him. This is probably not a good idea. A handshake-tier idea even.
>>
>>33755870
Sit in the noose like a swing.
>>
>>33755870
>N-No thanks. Who are you?
>>
>>33755904
>>33755912

1/2

"N-No thanks. Who are you?"

He shrugs which is a pretty impressive feat given his situation.
"I am who I am. Or maybe I should say that I am you, if I wanted another equally unhelpful yet truthful answer. In reality though, I am the Hanged Man."

"The what?"

A look of consternation crosses his face.
"Where's your deck?"

"Uh um I left it back h-home."

"Well that's no good. Seriously, just do the thing. It'll be fun."

You sigh and climb your way up towards the noose. This isn't that hard of a requirement to fill out you suppose. It could have been a lot worse.
You try and sit in the empty noose like a swing but you suddenly slip and fall!

Your left foot gets caught in the noose and you are snagged, hanging helplessly as the world spins around you.
The man laughs at your misfortune.
"“You’ve gotta just let go get a change of perspective sometimes, you know? If something seems inescapable, you just have to come back with a new view on things. Good luck with that. I’m ready to go.”

You try to call out for him to wait but you can't find your voice before he vanishes, the crystal being melding with you.

Dream Value: 80

What was that all about? A new perspective? On what, exactly? And just how are you supposed to get down from here?

You suddenly have a huge dizzy bout. You can see a new path. It was always there, you just didn’t understand it. Up is down and down is up. The noose around your foot breaks and you fall upwards into the sky.
You land back in the forest canopy, upside down. There is a upside-down path here, walking along the bottom of branches. It goes in two directions. One leading towards a distant tower and one back to the hanging tree.

Lacking no other option or means to escape from this reversed forest, you start walking towards the tower.
As you walk, you notice that you can see your Dreamworld Garden above you and the path leading away from it.
>>
>>33756327
2/2

Something is lurking at the end of the path where the Fool used to be. They're shrouded by a tree so you can only make them out indistinctly but for some reason you can tell that they see you back. Not only that, they see you and hate you. They do not want you.

You keep walking, leaving the hateful presence behind. It doesn't take as long as you thought it would to get to the tower.

Dream Value: 79

The tower is a tall gray column extending as far up (which is currently your down) as you can see. There’s an entrance at what is more or less your level, right alongside the upside down branches. Two people are sitting by the entrance, far away from each other.

On the right is a stern-looking man in a white suit. To the left is a short and squat goat-legged demon.
>>
>>33756397
Does the man have a hat on?
>>
>>33756397
Talk to the man
>>
>>33756397

>>
>>33756397
Are they upside down to you?
>>
>>33756416
No he does not. He is currently hatless.

>>33756547
They are standing along the reversed path just like you.

>>33756511
You approach the goat-legged man but he just snorts derisively at you.
“Look at you. Far too pure. Ew.”

"Hey! W-what is that supposed to mean?"
You actually have a pretty good idea what it means.

"I mean that you're just a huge pile of shit. Innocent shit. Go away."

You go away.

>>33756450
You walk over to the man in the suit instead. He can't possibly be worse than-

He punches you in the face. You aren't anywhere near tough enough to take it on the chin so you just crumple in a pathetic heap. He sneers but says nothing.

Dream Value: 77

You hastily back away to the point where you smack up against the tower door but to your relief, he does not follow you.
>>
>>33756692
Check the door while you're there. Don't forget to rotate the right way if there's a keyhole or a knob.
>>
>>33756692
Enter the tower.
>>
You decide to disregard both of them for now and just check the tower. You find yourself on a landing in a great spiral stairway. It extends both up and down. A great booming voice nearly shatters your eardrums.
“Welcome! I have no quarrel with you. Take what you will.”

Something intangible leaves the tower, crystal light fading into you. The actual tower itself is still here but it is a corpse of a building rather than...whatever it was beforehand.

Dream Value: 70

A set of rope materialises out of thin air right in front of you. It’s not just rope either. Pitons, grappling hooks, a harness...This is a complete expert climbing kit, no doubt very useful whether you are going up or down through the tower.
>>
>>33756928
Go down by your perspective.
>>
>>33756928

Time to climb up
>>
>>33756999
>>33756985

You really want to climb up. But...you also want to climb down first! Either direction looks like an arduous task so you can't exactly do both in any small amount of time.

You try to look up and down at the same time and strain your eyes.

Stress Value: 20
Dream Value: 69
>>
>>33757207

Go up
>>
>>33757207
Up
>>
You climb up the interior of the tower. Lucky you had the climbing equipment because the stairs end just a few levels downward! There’s nothing but an empty cylinder continuing to extend upwards.
You abandon the stairs, the climbing equipment and harness strapped around your waist, and start to just climb the walls themselves.
It’s pretty tiring work.

Dream Value: 64

In the end though, you reach the very top. You climb through a trapdoor to stand on the parapets atop the tower’s flat roof. You can’t see much from up here. It’s an endless void both up and down. Or not?

As you keep looking, you see a distant twinkling in the sky. It’s moving closer. It’s a sky full of stars, hovering just three meters above your head!
You try jumping to reach it but to no avail. It's tall enough that even if you were jumping at your regular height you wouldn't reach.
>>
>>33757396
Maybe we can throw a grapple on to it?
>>
>>33757396
Throw the grappling hook, try to get it caught up there.
>>
>>33757396
So, the world flipped right side up when we entered the tower?
>>
>>33757777
It might have! You didn't notice. But then again when you look down from up here all you see is a void so it may be that the destinations along the tower are completely divorced from where you'd expect them to be based on physical location.
Sort of like how with a Doorwheel you can make the same door open into many rooms.

>>33757516
>>33757750

You throw your fancy new grappling hook and actually manage to snag one! You pull it taut and even though your just pulling one star, the whole constellation moves with it. It all looks sort of fake and two-dimensional.

You pull the stars from the sky. They're only a little warm and you can stick your hand right through one without ill effects. As you do so, they all start to twinkle rapidly. Spelling out something in morse code?
Too bad you don't understand any of that!

--- -. -.-. . / -.-- --- ..- / .--. .-.. .- -.-. . -.. / - .... . / ... - .- .-. ... / .. -. / - .... . / ... -.- -.-- .-.-.- / -. --- .-- / -.-- --- ..- / - . .- .-. / - .... . -- / -.. --- .-- -. .-.-.-

Whatever it is, the stars burst into crystal flakes that soar around you before being absorbed.

Dream Value: 60
>>
>>33757953
>Sort of like how with a Doorwheel you can make the same door open into many rooms.
That's something I've been meaning to ask: when we use the Doorwheel, do we feel the movement of machinery, or any kind of noticeable effect?
>>
>>33757953
>ONCE YOU PLACED THE STARS IN THE SKY. NOW YOU TEAR THEM DOWN.
When did we place the stars in the sky, I wonder? When we began to dream?
>>
>>33757953

Jump off into the void
>>
>>33757953
Climb back down to the real top of the tower.
>>
>>33757953
Go back down
>>
>>33758054

Oh no, you never hear or feel anything when using one, whether it's the Doorwheel in your Basement that determines which one of your Bedroom doors go where or the double-sided one in the Entrance Hall.

>>33758293
>>33758329

With everything that can be done up here apparently done, you start the trip back down. Up? Goddamn. The other way.
You reach the landing and from there you take the downward stairs. Just like the first direction you took, the stairs peter out after a few levels here too, leaving you to scale the walls directly with your climbing gear.

Dream Value: 55

Eventually you reach the 'bottom' of the tower, dropping down and landing in a metal passageway.
The passageway seems pretty normal, save for the huge gaping hole in the roof that leads to the base of the tower. At one end, it leads to a door with a huge rainbow Monolith blocking it off. You’ve dropped in right next to it.

The Monolith is a huge cylindrical lump of multicoloured crystal, obviously made from the same stuff as the crystal beings and objects you absorb from the Tarot people. You try to absorb it too but it remains, firm and immobile.
The door that the Monolith is blocking looks like it opens inwards. Which means that anyone on the other side trying to open it would be shit out of luck since the Monolith is pressed right up against it.
Right beside the Monolith is a strange man, semi-angelic and carved from living crystal. Not like the crystal beings you normally see, who are only roughly humanoid. Like a well-detailed statue only born from crystal rather than stone.

At the other end of the passageway, a doorway opens into a bright light.
>>
>>33758554
Attempt to converse with crystal being
>>
>>33758554
Say hello to the crystal man
Maybe this place opens when we have the entire tarot deck
>>
>>33758554

greet crystal dude
>>
Unsure just how to approach this, you give him a poke. He smiles.
“I am Temperance. You have reached the furthest edge of the dream. This is less a dream and more of a vision, a vision of one path you can take. What you do here changes this place’s reflection in reality.”
He disappears after this piece of cryptic advice, merging with you. You feel more powerful.

Dream Value: 50

A purple book drops down from the sky, landing in front of you. It says ‘Dream Journal’ on it in sickeningly sweet spidery writing.
>>
>>33758949
Open the book. Does it say anything? Do we have any way of writing anything in it?
>>
>>33758949
Try to move the monolith. It's probably blocking the other door.
>>
>>33758949

Open the book
>>
You flip the book open. Writing scribbles itself down as you read it. It seems to be a series of lists and reminders? A lot of dream-related info anyway.

http://pastebin.com/tPNunqwz (Dream Journal)

Well, it'll be handy to have something like all that collected into one source and able to consulted whenever you feel like it you guess.

>>33759027
You try to move the Monolith, first by pushing and then by pushing. Both methods are equally futile. It just won't budge!
>>
>>33759616

Go down the other way in the tunnel
>>
Man, that dream journal really helps out actually
>>
>>33759616
Turn around and go the other way.
>>
You turn around and walk the other way down the tunnel. Away from the Monolith, towards the shining light. It gets brighter and brighter as you approach until you have to shade your eyes.
You go towards the light.

...

You wake up back in your Bedroom in the real world. You breathe in and then seize up, unable to move. Your chest hurts. Your chest hurts a lot. It feels like something is clamping down inside of you and twisting your insides. You try to cough or scream or anything but your entire body is locked up in a huge full-body cramp.

It passes after only a few seconds. You roll off your bed and collapse, panting to the point of nearly hyperventilating. You feel prickly.
Something glimmers in your hand. Looking closely, you see the veins within dry off and harden. Changing to something that glints in the light.
It's the same all over your body. Your heart has stopped beating and you've run out of blood. Instead your veins are solid tendrils of rainbow crystal stretching through your body.
They recede under your skin until they are barely noticeable but you can still feel them.

You don't understand.

>>
>>33760027
Find a mirror.
>>
>>33760027

Find a mirror immediately
>>
>>33760027
Get to the bathroom
>>
You stumble your way to the Bathroom. Hopefully your mirror there has started reflecting properly again because you sure as hell don't want to go all way to the Girl's Room in the Cafeteria to do it.

Fortunately the mirror seems to be mostly working again! It still has that hole in it and occasionally your reflection flickers out and is replaced by a view into the dark spyroom but it's still enough for you to gauge your Appearance Value.
You need to climb up on top of the sink before you can even see the mirror properly but after that? Smooth sailing!

You're still noticeably you. A lanky girl with bedraggled black hair and buckteeth. You do look a little more ...solid than usual. You don't know how to quantify it. That's probably just the extra muscle definition.
Your veins don't draw attention but they occasionally catch the light. Placing your face right next to the mirror, you can see tiny rainbow crystals fill the blood vessels in your eyes.

There are around twenty spare beads rattling around from your previous meddlings.

You put a bead back in the Ge Column, taking it back up to 3. You also dump your Dream Value to 0, giving you a total of 66 spare beads.

>>33760503

You slam 25 of those spares back into your Height Column, taking you back up to 50 and your regular height of an even two meters tall.

You reflect on your newfound corruption for a moment. You don't even feel evil, not really. Just more down to earth, more worldly. Sometimes people can get hurt, sometimes people should be hurt. You understand that now and don't particularly care about them.
You find yourself tainted with all kinds of thoughts and ideas that you had never really entertained. You could totally enter the Men's Room now, it wouldn't even be a big deal. And not even because you are male right now, even if you weren't you wouldn't care. You don't feel revulsed, not at all. It's even a little bit exciting!

Your next stop is back to your Bedroom to grab your rifle. It's sitting with your laptop, your keys and the clothes you had to abandon when you went to sleep.

+Well if you'd offered a little more help than maybe I could have freed you by now!+

-well hold on sister-
-its not like i got the chance-
-you were just barraging me with nonstop questions-

+By the way, how do you get internet?+

-oh well whatever-
-point is-
-those are usually worn all the time by the staff-

+But there's no staff left!+

-yes-
-we might be in trouble there-
-are you sure theyre all gone-

+I've been everywhere in this facility except for the locked door in the Control Room. I haven't found anyone.+

-well hot damn-
-um-
-maybe your personal overseers dropped some-
-?-

+My personal Overseers?+

-yeah-
-you didnt think that everything in your cell just rearranges itself by magic do you-
-oh look my room is tidy again after i wake up-
-not suspicious at all-

+Wait. That's still happening in my cell.+

-so-

+So does that mean my Overseers are still around?+

-maybe-
-you could be in luck-
-on the other hand-
-this could be really bad for you-

+Where do the Overseers live? I've already checked everywhere in the Barracks+

-oh no not the barracks-
-these ones would be living in your cell-
-with you-
-with my old cell they were in a trapdoor in the basement-
-underneath some dumb abacus thing-
-they come out when your asleep-

+Why haven't they stopped me then?+

-well-
-overseers are robots you see-
-theyre not smart-
-normally they're given instructions by real people-
-but if theyve all buggered off they should be on autopilot-

+Please use proper punctuation.+

-no-

You make your way back to the Bedroom and pick up Mrs Legs and try to enlist her help. Unfortunately she is just a spider and cannot understand you.
You examine the area under the Values Adjuster and can just barely find a circular seam indicating a hidden trapdoor right underneath it. Now that you think about it, back in the Dreamworld version of this place there had been a hole right here! You never really thought much of it or investigated it though.

>>33762948

You can't distribute Hunger Value as the appropriate column on the Adjuster is twisted and broken. As for whether you need to eat, your Hunger Value has dropped to 17 and you still don't really feel hungry so maybe not?
Unless it's all in your head.
