You take in your surroundings for a moment, until you catch a whiff of your party. You smell absolutely terrible, not to mention you're dressed about as conspicuously as you could possibly be. Your party stand out like sore thumbs. You do note that cloaks are in style though, a relief. You won't have to abandon your precious all-in-one storage unit for the sake of fashion.

“We need to find an inn and get cleaned up.” You announce to your party. Unfortunately Profectus and Darzi seem far too absorbed in their surroundings to hear you. You have to snap your fingers a few times to drag their attention away from the scenery. “You two listening? We're looking for an inn.” Before you can set off down the street Skull Kid speaks up. “Oh, dude. I think I actually know where we are.” You look at him curiously. “Really?” He nods his head vigorously. “Yeah, there's a pretty nice joint just a little bit from here we can crash in. A bit expensive, but I'll pitch in my own funds. Split it half n' half, yeah?”

That seems fair. You nod your head hesitantly and gesture for him to lead the way. He takes the hint and sets off into a near-by alley. You find yourself winding through narrow, twisting passages. The artificial lighting seems harsh and threatening to your eyes, but that may just be anxiety speaking. Not once do you manage to catch a glimpse of the sky, you almost feel like you're still in the tunnels, except if anything these alleys are more cramped than the tunnels ever were.
(1/2)
>>
After a short walk you reach a door guarded by two masked men in heavy armor. The sign above it is in a language you've no idea how to read, and the guards are both wearing some sort of strange backpack but don't appear otherwise armed. The alley continues, but you don't see anything of particular interest in that direction. It just seems to wind on into infinity. Skull Kid clamps his hands together. “Here we are! Little rough on the outside but it's gorgeous on the inside. Trust me.”

Skull Kid has never lead you astray before, why start now? You'll at least give this place a shot. You give him a nod. “This place ought to do. Lead the way, friend.” He smiles, casually meandering towards the two guards. They address him as he approaches in a language that you don't recognize, but sounds sort of vaguely similar to Rhynian. You can pick out the meaning of some of the words but not all of them. He responds in the same language, and the door slides open after only a moment. He escorts you inside.

The hotel seems quite well appointed on the inside. Men and women sit around chatting casually or going about their business. Comfortable looking chairs and benches are arranged all around the room, as are elegant paintings and displays of various exotic looking fish. You see a man standing at a desk in the background, which seems to be Skull Kid's destination. You also note a stairwell leading up to some sort of balcony where more people seem to be congregated. Soft music filters down from above, calming. You notice quite a lot of dirty looks being cast your way, but chalk it up to the smell. Come to think of it, everyone seems almost inordinately clean here. Cleaner even than your old Master, and he bathed every day, usually.
(1/2)
>>
>>33761266
Oh yeah, i forgot we only bathe once a month.
>>
Skull Kid stops at the desk and leans forward on his elbows, speaking that strange not-quite-Rhynian language to the man standing behind it. There is a short dialogue, and then he turns to face you. “So it's a hundred twenty ay-woo per night for a regular room with a double bed. A hundred eighty for a suite. That means it's six hundred if each of us gets an individual room, three hundred if we double up, or three hundred sixty if we just get two adjoining suites.” He pauses. “I gotta say, the suites are pretty damn nice. I say we spring for those. Since we're splitting it halfway I'll cover one and you cover the other.”

You think for a moment, and then nod your head. “Two adjoining suites it is then. How many rooms is that?” Skull Kid answers after a moment's thought. “Four, so four people will have to double up, two will get to sleep in their own bed.” Before you can say anything Chrys speaks up. “I claim one of the beds for myself.” Darzi frowns. “Where am I supposed to sleep then?” Chrys responds coolly. “That is not my concern.” Fortunately before it becomes a problem Fulvia solves the issue for you. “Though I do not sleep, I would be willing to share your room.”

Skull Kid shakes his head and turns to speak with the attendant at the desk. He turns back after a moment with two tiny squares made of a strange material. “We're on floor two hundred thirty seven, rooms forty three and forty four.” You nod your head slowly. “Must we walk up so many flights of stairs? Have they no lower rooms available?” Skull Kid laughs, shaking his head. “No, no. Just follow me, you'll see in a second man.”

Uneasy, you follow him to a small row of metal doors. He presses an up arrow and it lights up. You recognize these as elevators, though not quite the same as the ones in the Conclave. A number above on of the doors seems to be rapidly ticking lower, while another's number continues to grow higher and higher. The other three remain static, seemingly not in use. Eventually the door who's number is lowering chimes loudly and the doors slide open to reveal a claustrophobic metal box. A fancy claustrophobic metal box, but a claustrophobic metal box nonetheless.

(1/2)
>>
Skull Kid steps in without a care in the world, and Fulvia follows him. You have your apprehensions but get in anyway. Darzi and Profectus follow your lead. Chryssa seems fairly adamant about not getting in though. She stares at it for a short while and then shakes her head. “I will take the stares. I will leave you five to your metal death trap.” As she turns to leave you blurt out almost without thinking. “Are you afraid?” A tense moment passes as she turns to face you, an evil glare to her eyes. She steps promptly onto the elevator and turns to face the doors without a word.

Skull Kid presses a button labeled two hundred thirty seven. Your stomach lurches as the metal box you're contained in rockets skyward. Chryssa bites off a pitiful whine and grinds her teeth together the entire ride, stumbling out of the doors gratefully as they open and bracing herself against the opposite wall. You suppose she has a problem with tightly confined spaces.

Skull Kid waltzes out nonchalantly and starts patrolling down the hall, looking for your two rooms. The hallway itself is carpeted and decorated with various plant life. You realize with some shock when you rub your fingers along one of the leaves that the plants are merely cloth imitations, they looked quite real. Unfortunately you don't have time to contemplate why on Earth someone would put fake plants all over the hallway, the next moment Skull Kid cries out triumphantly and ushers everyone over. He slides one of the strange little squares into one door and then quickly withdraws it, a light flashing green. As soon as he sees this he pushes the door open, allowing you all entry. The other suite can be accessed from this one, as a door seems to connect the two.
(2/3, I lied.)
>>
The room itself is quite nice. You seem to be in a parlor of some sort, lounging chairs and low tables decorating the room. You also see a large screen embedded in the wall. A row of tall windows lines one wall, offering a glimpse out into the skyline. It's a dazzling sight, a million lights twinkling bright enough to drown out any sign of stars. Even the moon seems dull in comparison to the blinding glow pouring in through the window. How does anyone ever sleep? The bedrooms themselves are nice if a tad spartan, and each one appears to have its own bathing room.

You decide to let your companions bathe first, you'll do so before meditating. Instead you quickly shed your armor, leaving it in a pile on the floor, and wearily sprawl out on one of the lounging chairs. This has the unfortunate side effect of spreading the filth of the sewers all over the fine piece of furniture, but you're too tired to care. “So, just what do we get with a suite anyway? Will they bring up the finest cuisine in all the land and feed it to me bite by bite?” Skull Kid laughs. “Actually, yeah. They totally will. It's called room service and it's just a phone call away.” What on Earth is a phone call? “Plus you get free access to the spa and the pool-” Spa? “-free drinks in the lounge during happy hour-” Happy hour? “-and a ride to anywhere in the city you have the proper access to reach.”

“What's a phone call or a spa, and why do people divide up happiness into hourly units?” Skull Kid unceremoniously plops down into a chair, flipping up his visor and rubbing his eyes. “Phones are little devices you can use to contact someone else at any distance, so long as you know their unique calling number.” So they're like non-magical brooches? “Spas are places people go to relax. There are various health treatments to enjoy there that alleviate stress.” That sort of sounds nice. “Happy hour is just a colloquial term used to refer to an hour or two in which bars sell reduced priced drinks, usually from like seven to eight in the evening.”

Huh, learn something every day. Profectus perks up all of a sudden. “So, wait. We get free booze for an hour in this 'lounge' place?” Skull Kid nods his head. Profectus seems to grow inordinately excited. “What time is it now? What floor is the lounge on? Do you think I ought to bathe before I go?” Skull Kid responds wearily. “Check a clock, floor one hundred, and fuck yes.”
(1/2)
>>
It turns out to be nine forty-seven, meaning happy hour has long ended. A devastated Profectus sheds his armor adjascent to yours and meanders towards the last remaining open shower, loudly bemoaning that “Life is pain.” before vanishing behind the doorway.

>Ask Skull Kid how to get to the ruined tower underneath the modern tower.

“How do I call room service?” Skull Kid clears his throat and says as clearly as he can. “Call: Room Service.” There is a soft chime, and a moment later a pleasant female voice filters through from some unseen source. “Thank you for calling room service, what may we get for you?” Skull Kid pipes up first, declaring loudly. “I'll have a synth, poms, and a rambler.” He looks to you expectantly, you staring back like a thief caught in the act. Eventually he sighs and states. “Could you explain the menu, ma'am? It's my friend's first time in the city.”

She giggles airily. “Of course, sir. We specialize in New Synth cuisine here at the Arthit Hotel. We offer a wide variety of genuine Ducomycetian products including synth burgers, steaks, lamb chops, and nearly any other dish imaginable. We also offer an array of side dishes, including pommes frites made with genuine potatoes and fresh, genuine wheat biscuits. For drinks we offer a wide array of sodas as well as a number of adult beverages.” You consider for a moment, and then venture hesitantly. “Do you sell kebab?” She responds enthusiastically. “Absolutely sir, would you like anything else?” You have to admit, you're curious to try these 'pommes frites'. Plus, what on Earth is 'soda' or an 'adult beverage'? “I will try pommes frites, and if you would bring up a bottle of wine I would be most pleased.” You also go ahead and order some food for the others, so long as you're ordering food.

The woman responds that they'll have that up in just a moment and the call cuts off. You prop yourself up on a pillow and dig into your cloak to retrieve that Excidium book you bought from the Academy. It seems almost a life time ago, on a different planet and in a different time. You miss it, you must admit. Hopefully you'll at least be returning to the same dimension in the near future, and with that in mind you pose a question to Skull Kid while you read. “So, about the Tower. Will we need to do anything special to get into the collapsed tower beneath? Do we need to have some sort of special access?”

Skull Kid leans back, closing his eyes for a moment. “Lessee here, if I remember correctly you need Privileged access to enter the Tower grounds; however, anyone can enter the area around the tower, even if they're nothing but laborers. We ought to be able to find a sewer entrance or a tunnel in the basement of an old abandoned building that leads into the Undercity from there, and then it's just a short stroll into the ruins of the old tower. Supposedly they've started guarding some of the entrances due to a terrorist attack of some sort but I doubt the guards will pose much trouble in small numbers. Just need to make sure they don't contact any of their comrades.”

You nod your head slowly, flipping to the next page. “What about the Tower itself? What can you tell me about it?” Skull Kid shrugs his shoulders and replies absentmindedly. “Other than that it's a hedonistic den of sin and revelry? Not much. Never been inside it. It stretches a thousand stories into the night sky and at its base is several hundred feet across. The top dozen floors are given over to Our Benevolent Leader as his apartments.” You distantly hear Profectus call out from the bathroom. “Did someone say hedonistic revelry?” but both you and Skull Kid ignore him.

After that, conversation peters out and you focus on your reading. The Excidium itself seems to be a journal of some sort. It was written by someone significantly less insane than Master Rostam. A human, that much is abundantly clear. Humans just seem to have a different writing style than your people. You would call it less refined, but they would probably call your own people's writing overly flowery. As for the contents themselves, they seem to mostly relate the day to day life of a young vatis, one Florus Vincius, in his mid thirties, with a wife and a young son.

The first few pages relate the details of his recent marriage (apparently quite the elaborate ceremony) to a maid ten years younger than him, of low birth (his mother was apoplectic, evidently). His son is the product of his previous wife, who died in child birth. You can't help but find that surprising, supposedly the Rhynians had more or less eliminated the risk child birth entails.

You get through the first and second chapter without finding anything of particular interest. Lots of bragging about how much the author was 'having' his new wife and in what ways he was doing so. Lots of detail about his search for a job and increasingly degenerated relations with the rest of his family. However, in the third chapter one tidbit of interest bubbles to the surface. The author has found employment as a researcher in the 'Exotic Provinces'. You've never heard of any such thing. He departs “at that Earth”, ad ille mundus. You're not sure what to think about that.

Unfortunately before you can read further into the mysteries of the Excidium, there is a knock on your door. Skull Kid springs up and goes to answer, and before you know it two big carts are being rolled into the room by rather expressionless attendants. They bow in a ceremonial fashion and then quickly exit, leaving you to your food. You peek under the strange metal domes they've used to conceal the food until you find what you're looking for-donner kebab. You also take the strange fried potato strings and uncork the bottle of wine, pouring yourself a glass. The bottle is odd though, the glass is opaque and dark, and inordinately thick.

The others start to filter out of the shower one by one, Chrys joining you in an odd, fluffy robe of some sort. Darzi merely wears the clothes she'd been wearing under her armor, the elaborate, flowing garments your people prefer. Her armor prevented any of the sewage from staining her garments. Fulvia, oddly enough, opted to bathe as well. She appears sans projection, the hard metal shell that underlies the human appearance bared in full. Profectus appears wearing his old dirty clothes. You need to either buy new outfits or wash your current clothing.

>Pass the time with idle conversation and then bathe, meditate.
>Ask Fulvia how long until her spell is ready.
>Ask Skull Kid where you can find a marketplace.

I think I'll call it here for tonight. Archive is here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Banished%20Quest

I'll be answering Ask questions for a shot while, so feel free to shoot me a question over there. If you'd like to ask anything in-thread I'd also be more than happy to answer.

Social links, go! Time to have a nice cool-down in the lap of luxury! Surely our streak of constant near-death conflict is over, right?

Will we gain more spear mastery as we continue using our spear? And if so, does using vys increase or decrease our chance of skill up?

The more you use or train with your spear, the more you will improve with your spear. Using vys doesn't necessarily prevent you from skilling up but it's not as beneficial as passing a check unaided.

Would taking hit also raise our "thoughness"? How we'd fare against injury and stuff like that?
Like how much damage we can sustain before something tear out our arms or something?
>>
>>33765138
Well, when you fought that anti-mage construct you were pretty close to passing out from pain/losing an arm permanently. Taking hits does absolutely increases how well you take hits though.
>>
>>33765196
Would that also raise our dodge/parrying skill if that's a thing?
Yeah getting hit raising dodge/parrying what the hell? That way you'd gain an edge against similar fighting style/build/type or whatever.
>>
>>33765290
If you consistently choose to dodge in combat it will increase your skill at dodging, regardless of whether you succeed or fail. Choosing to take a hit or attack or what have you instead though won't improve your ability to dodge. Acrobatics training or taking a few dancing classes would also help.

Thanks, I guess we'll slowly shift from using magic everytime to make use of the spear/taking/dodging a hit more.
Guess we'll have a training session where Chryssa beats the shit out of us and we try to dodge/parry/soak most of her hits.
>>
>>33765414
That would be good. Helps us get gud, lets her work out some of her aggression on a guy who can heal like Wolverine.
>>
>>33765414
I'm down for this, we need to git gud, and getting the snot beat out of us by she-hulk+horns is the best way to do it
>>
>>33765414
Make that a team effort to improve coordination.
Once they get some levels i their respective magic use the oposite element to make them improve further.
>>
>>33765414
Chryssa+Darzi team up.
One is bruttaly cunning, the other is cunningly brutal.
Mik is completly obliterated.
>>
>Has anything lewd happened between out party members?
>Besides Profectus banging hookers? I think Mik and Chrys held hands once. Some weird robo-shit went down between Skull Kid and Fulvia, but that doesn't really count as 'lewd'.
Does anyone know when the handholding happened?

Finally found this quest again, really dissapointed how things went down recently, great quest based on adventure and explarotion ruined by a bunch of edgytards.

>not giving ricky some of the pressure cooked shit he basically directed you in making

>"they disrespected me" bullshit towards darzi

>being generally unrepentant after being a complete jackass

seriously guys, you can't just say "mik is crazy yolo" on this case, there wasn't even any voices commanding/suggesting his actions, i mean really, WTF.

also

>not having fulvia force the bikes to the ground/halt then have the bikers fly from the momentum and have them land on ice spieks/weapons or whatever you want..

stop picking options without thinking and try to use the fucknig write in function once in a while yeah?
>>
>>33767591
Vote for being a plain jane all you want, the magic mik rodeo cant be stopped by anything but death itself
>>
>>33767671
plain jane > egomaniac

also implying getting a bunch of bikes to use/sell back in our world = plain jane
>>
>>33767701
get in character, you don't go from "I am god, fuck you." to "I fucked up real bad, I'ma be real good from now on." that quick, nor would it make sense for someone who is legitimately insane, I feel like you forget that, the voters may be "hurr durr fish malk" but mik is actually insane, he wouldn't see much wrong with a lot of his actions, and it doesn't help that the only two people who call him out on his bullshit are the chick who punched him and left him for dead, and a drunk
>>
>>33767591
>>not having fulvia force the bikes to the ground/halt then have the bikers fly from the momentum and have them land on ice spieks/weapons or whatever you want..
It would take a grandmaster to pull that kind shit but then again you don't seem that smart.
>>
>>33767744

His I am a god moment was only caused by the spice, he showed no more "I am a god" moments afterwards though he does brag sometimes, being an egotistical maniac is going a tad too far.

I agree on the need for moral support though and i think Darzi would be a good candidate, or perhaps the eye that was disappointed in him.

he's not insane in the sense you're saying he's insane in the sense that he sees and hears things that normal people don't, he just also happens to be reckless and curious but definitely not the complete jackass he seems to be turning into.
>>
>>33767790
>he needs a mommy to watch after him because hurrrrr
fuck off
>>
>>33767790
He's jackass since thread 2.
>>
>>33767756
grandmaster? really? just pulling them to the ground or stoppnig them takes a grandmaster? really? you can erect 4 inch walls out of nowhere in an instant and not pull a few bikes to the fucking ground???
>>
>>33767790
>the eye that was disappointed in him
that was the dragon, fuck that dragon, little cunt thinks its shit, she is our daughter and she doesn't have a right to judge us
>>33767821

>>
>>33767817
>>he needs a mommy to watch after him because hurrrrr
>fuck off

>>>/b/

>>33767817

yeah but you gotta agree that pointing a gun to a kid (or someone he sees as a kid) and chasing someone and endangering your companions because "they disrespected me" is a bit high up there
>>
>>33767836
yeah but just slowing them a great deal in a short burst or stopping them for just a few seconds would've caused a lot of damage to the bikers and hopefully undamaged/mildly damaged bikes, i mean come on that was just fucking wasteful.
>>
>this guys is actually serious
>people like this exist
I don't wanna live anymore
>>
>>33767917
Think it's troll you?
>>
>>33767941
Probably the guy who wanted to get bitched at constantly before the break, hell soma even answered how everyone felt to a degree about the situation.
>>
>>33767790
>What kind of insane is mik?
>The megalomaniac kind.
Fuck you
>>
>>33772420
Just because he's got megalomaniac tendencies doesn't mean he's a dick to everyone, ever with no remorse or feeling. It's been stated that Mik felt horrible for the events that unfolded with Lucky and the bar and all that.

>>33767756
Fulvia probably couldn't of just outright stopped the bikes but she could have altered their course to crash them into the buildings/ground/obstacles pretty easily. That sort of thing is probably beyond Mik himself though.

>>33767744
The 'I am a god' moment was the sole result of the spice, though effects of its use linger and Mik does think himself quite powerful. He doesn't consider himself infallible, omnipotent, or anything of the sort.
>>
>>33772862
>What kind of person is mik actually?
>An arrogant, greedy, reckless, slightly racist jerk with a skewed moral compass and a few screws loose.
I would have it any other way.
>>
>>33773181
*wouldn't
>>
>>33772862
>>33773181
Sounds pretty normal for an adventurer.
>>
>>33772862

I believe Soma said at the earliest this saturday most likely.
