You are Sireyi Valyenya, 18 years old, you are on your first quest.

You have retrieved the Horn of Alzurad: a legendary artefact that can call dead heroes back to fight for the holder of the Horn. But now you’re lost on another plane, trying to find your way home.

You’re sat at a table facing a lavish breakfast spread, but mostly you’re interested in the cup of coffee in your hands.

Last night was a sleepless night. First and foremost you’ve had plans and ideas churning around in your head, knowing that you have to make some pretty major decisions today, or at least soon.

Secondary to that, your *sister* Ellahi tried to charm her way into your bedchamber last night. Whilst not a complete surprise, it was an unwelcome distraction from trying to sleep without worrying too much about your choices. What was surprising was that after firmly turning Ellahi away, telling her you needed to rest, she decided to go and try the same trick with your companions.

Gendric followed your lead and politely but firmly turned her away. You just managed to doze off before the sound of Bokin piling furniture up in front of his bedroom door woke you up again.

Sleep was difficult to find, but you dozed off again. Until insistent knocking at your door pulled you out of bed, if you have tell Ellahi “no” one more time...
But it was Sofia instead “Can I sleep with you?” she asked “If that....that traitor bothers me once more I don’t know what I’ll do.”
>>
>>33789994
Sure, why not you thought, after all she looked pretty sleepy herself and was unlikely to cause trouble. Plus, she just looked adorable, standing there in a nightie, blinking sleepily, you’re not so cold-hearted that you could turn her away. Your bed is a kingsize one, plenty of room for two without any touching.

Her Royal Highness snores. As in, sawing wood, drilling holes in things snoring.

You began to regret your decision to offer her a place in your bed. Still, lying on your front with your wings stretched out, and a pillow wrapped around your eyes you managed to drift off.

You woke to the sound of knocking on glass.

Looking blearily around, you spotted Jal perched on your windowsill, what now? She was in a dressing gown and was wearing her shoes. She looks like she was freezing to death out there.

You opened the window, intending to inquire what she was doing climbing around the outside of the building in the dead of night. Before you could ask her anything she slipped past you and removed her shoes and nightgown, revealing that she prefers to sleep only in her underwear, and then climbed into your bed alongside Sofia, pulling the covers over her head.

“Ah, Jal, you asked, exactly what are you doing in my bed?” you ask.

“Getting warm” came the muffled reply.

“And you couldn’t do this in your own bed?” you ask.

“Your evil twin kept wanting to keep me company” complained Jal, her head still under the covers, Princess Sofia snoring along beside her “So I told her you and me was Sammi and Jill but she won’t go way so I hadda escape.”

You decide to leave aside the problem of Jal claiming to be your lover for the time being “And you couldn’t just lock the door?” you ask.
>>
>>33790011
She peeks her head above the covers “Well yeah, but I got used ta having me own ‘round me when I slept, just like I’m back with the gonophs back ‘ome ya know?”

Right, fine, whatever. You climb into bed alongside her and try to get back to sleep.

Sometime later you are woken by the *thump!* of someone falling out of bed and you hear Sofia’s voice raised in outrage “Jal you hit me with a pillow you, you, you little minx!”

There’s a sound of a soft impact followed by Jal taunting “You call tharra ‘it, tha’s no’ ‘ow yer do it yer ‘ighness, ‘ere lemma showya howta shuftie, on yer row!”

It seems Sofia must be descended from Konig, she appears incapable of backing down from a fight, even one waged with pillows.

An hour later...

You’ve finally restrained both girls with the simple but effective method of simply hugging them tightly and lying down. Due to your wings, you hate sleeping on your back, so when you wake up, not long after drifting off to sleep, both Jal and Sofia are wrapped around you, with your wings draped across them like a blanket.

You didn’t get much sleep at all. Jal and Sofia seem fine, chatting animatedly over breakfast.

Bah...morning people, you grip your coffee cup tighter and think about what to do.

Before you decide, Ellahi mentioned late last night that her doctors were visiting her this morning for a check-up. You could talk to them about her problem before making a decision of course.

As you were just sitting down for breakfast she mentioned that she would be with them for an hour or so, then she would be free.

You take your time over breakfast, enjoying the banter of your friends, despite wanting to throttle at least one of them.
>>
>>33790027
Afterwards you go looking for Ellahi, wearing your dragon-blood disguise. She’s in her sitting room, wearing a dressing gown, with her are two older demon-blooded men. One is extremely portly and has a white beard and moustache, the other is somewhat thinner and has an enormous black moustache – he must have to go through most doors sideways to avoid that thing getting caught.

You knock politely on the partially open door, Ellahi motions you inside and introduces you to the two gentlemen “This is Doctors Hoskins” she indicates the portly one “and Venkman” she indicates the one with the impressive moustache “you can speak freely in front of them, they’re well-paid for their discretion. I’m sure you have questions, and they already know who you are.”

You relax a little and drop the disguise, neither man reacts overmuch to your angelic appearance, Dr Hoskins gives a muttered “my word” and Dr Venkmans moustache twitches.

What do you ask them?

“What’s wrong with Ellahi?” you ask
Dr Venkman answers “human and demon blood was not meant to mix, sometimes, we of the blood suffer from...complications. It arises from the mixture of the four humours of humans with the humours of demons in particular the way the sanguine humour interacts with the vitriolic and ichorus ones-”

“What my esteemed colleague is trying to say” interrupts Dr Hoskins, with a fond smile at his long-winded colleague “Is that all living things have systemic defences against toxins and disease, demon-bloods have two such systems, one human, and one demonic. Normally the two work together, providing increased resistance, however, a in few of the blood, like Lady Valyenya, the two work against one another, to the detriment of the overall organism. In time, perhaps one will win, or the struggle will go on until she passes away.”

“Would rather avoid that” says Ellahi, pouring herself some wine.

“How long has she got?” you probe further

“Difficult to say” says Dr Venkman “Some patients fade quickly, others hang on for years, it could be anything between 1 and 10 years, at her current rate of decline.”

“Won’t magical healing work?” you ask

Dr Hoskins shakes his head “sadly, most forms of magical healing heal the whole of a person, including their bodily defences, magical healing will extend her time, perhaps double it, but it cannot cure her.”

“How do you think I can help cure Ellahi?” you wonder

“Your unique energies” says Dr Venkman “if directed properly, can be used to disrupt the demonic humours of her body, whilst leaving the human ones intact.”

“I could try healing her with my own powers” you counter.

Dr Venkman gives a condescending smile “How many years of medical study do you have young lady? Do you know where to direct your energies, no, leave this to the professionals, lest you do more harm than good.”
>>
>>33790146
“What’s the risk to me?” you ask

The two doctors exchange looks for a moment
“They don’t know” says Ellahi, drinking her wine.

“Not true!” sputters Dr Venkman “We have a very good idea of what will happen, but this is untested, it is theoretical.”

“What do you anticipate will happen?” you clarify “to me”

Dr Hoskins responds “We will remove some of your vitae – your life force, this will weaken you temporarily, we will use this to cleanse Ellahi’s mind, her body, and her souls – all essential parts of the demons maleficology. The process may take several hours, after which we will return your energies to you.”

“What they’re not telling you” drawls Ellahi “Is that the last place they use your vital energies to scrub, will alter what they’re returning to you, so you have the choice of maybe looking like me, starting to think like me, or maybe getting a copy of some of my powers.”

down that route. Oh well.

>What will happen to Ellahi? Will she be affected in a similar manner?
>Where have you learned this technique? Has anything at least remotely similar been tried in the past, or is it pure theory?
>Tell me more about your careers, how did you guys become doctors, and why?
>>
“What chance of success does this have?” you ask. The two doctors exchange look.

“They’ve no idea” says Ellahi.

“Not entirely true” responds Dr Hoskins “In theory it will work, but this is untried and untested, we don’t know what the chances are.”

“What side effects will Ellahi experience?” you inquire.

“She will have a pure humans vulnerability to disease and toxins” explains Dr Venkman, looking sideways at Ellahi draining her winecup and pouring herself another he adds “altering her lifestyle habits would be prudent.”

“Yeah” says Ellahi “That’ll certainly happen.”

“Look like you how?” you ask Ellahi

She puts down her wine and runs her hands down her body, twisting sinuously as she does so “wouldn’t you kill for a body like mine?”

Dr Hoskins coughs “You might possibly take on some of the more common physical characteristics of the blood: claws, sharpened teeth, a tail, or horns most likely.”

“Think like you how?” you direct your question to Ellahi

“I don’t mean to brag” she says “But I’m a lot smarter than anyone else I’ve ever met.”
“Or the young lady may simply pick up your voracious appetites” says Dr Venkman, an insincere smile on his face.

“What sort of powers do you have?” you ask Ellahi

“Well I’m a decent sorcerer” she replies “but the powers of the blood I excel at are all about getting people to do what I want them do, making deals, making them want me, or want to help me.”

None of that sounds good “What if they don’t return the corrupted vitae to me?” you try

The two doctors shoot looks back and forth before Dr Hoskins replies “Your own powers would be weakened, perhaps permanently, perhaps they would recover in time.”

Well, that’s a lot to think about.
>>
>>33790291
“In any case” says Dr Venkman “We are not yet prepared for the operation, we need to gather more vital reagents, we will be ready in about 3 days time, you certainly have time to make a decision.”

“Where have you learned this technique? Has anything at least remotely similar been tried in the past, or is it pure theory?” you ask

Dr Venkman pulls himself up, ready to deliver a lecture on the full history of the procedure, Dr Hoskins cuts him off “The technique has been done many times before, using different donors, pure humans are the most effective. It has never been done with...anything like you before.”

“Tell me more about your careers, how did you guys become doctors, and why?” you ask

The two doctors exchange looks and shrug. Dr Hoskins answers first “I grew up in a poorer family, no one had access to medical care, so I worked as hard as I could to get a scholarship to attend medical school. I wanted to help people.”

DR Venkman gives a different answer “My father was a doctor, and his father before him, the advancement of medical science is the highest calling anyone of intellect can aspire to, for we must understand ourselves, before we can truly understand the world around us.”

The two doctors gather their things, ready to go.

Personally I'd rather not do this. Frankly I'd rather try and Heaven's Rebirth her than do what these doctors are trying. It feels like a trap option and I'm almost certain there are 'better' ways of going about it.
>>

>I’ll need to think about this, goodbye

>Nearly no negative effects to this option
>Wants a better option anyway
You can't trick me Mathrian, you just want to start making people into angels.
Also Heaven's Rebirth is 30 XP away, we aren't getting that much in three days and there are better things to buy with it anyway.
>>
>>33790374
I'd say corruption/partial demonic energy tranfers are a negative effect. And while Pally isn't a sadist like Som or Dranule/Ygg is I'd rather not trust the somewhat backwards doctors are saying. They are clearly working with a 1800s-1900s idea of medicine.

Three days is when they are going to be ready. Not the deadline for when we must do it. Not to mention we could likely increase Ellahi's lifespan significantly with some healing.
As is shes got 1-10 years left.
>>
You thank the doctors and they leave.

You have a number of different choices before you. You’ve discussed all these with your friends, and with Ellahi, but the choice ultimately lies with you.

[I’ve tried to order these choices into broad options as much as possible, write-ins are of course possible, as is delaying making a choice.]

What are you going to do about the Demon Lords?

>Try to kill them on my own (or with my adventuring companions)
>Wait until the Horn is working, and use the Heroes to take them down
>Don’t attack them directly, once the Empire begins to crumble, they’ll come to you on your terms, or flee back to the Hells.
>Do nothing about them, I’m not helping

What are you going to do about Ellahi’s requests?

>Help her with all 4
>Help her with some (which?)
>Don’t help her with any

What are you going to do about the Empire of Drache?

>Once I’ve helped with the Demon Lords and/or with Ellahi’s requests (or not) I need to go back to my own plane, I’m sure to be a target for whoever tries to take over in the demon lords absence
>I’ll stay as long as I can to help
>I won’t abandon this world until it is free

[None of this is route-lock, you can do things in certain orders, and even saying you’re going back to your own plane doesn’t stop you from visiting this one in future to help with specific tasks.

Also, as we only have a few players, please roll an unmodified 1d20 with a vote, to help break any possible ties.

Discussion before voting is allowed, encouraged even, as is asking questions about these options/tasks.]

From last thread

Autism Anon
I’ve edited the rules and character sheet, I had trouble puzzling out what you meant regarding the formatting rules, so please check the powers again and post at the end of thread about any suggested improvements.

I went for [PURCHASED] as it enables me to copy/paste from the word doc I use as the master copy of the rules rather than having to edit 2 copies (pastebin and word).

Lightning Core event Will bonus added separately, purchasing Will cost uses base Will, with no modifiers.

Angels Lantern
Vulnerable to magical damage only
Low HP but high defence, can be dispelled
Regular action to summon but long duration (if purchased, one planned expansion is rapid summoning)
Defence boost is +2/level

I look forward to seeing the google docs, if it helps I can email you my own notes on past threads.

Shorty
I get what you’re saying, Sireyi’s Mary Sue ranking is pretty high. There is (possibly) an event coming up that may alter her appearance.

As for law and strip-dancing:
As a paladin-cadet Sireyi studied law like any cadet, she’s far from being able to practise law, or be a cop, but she can (with an intelligence check) recall obscure facts relevant to the situation at hand.
Sireyi has no real training in dancing, or stripping, she is at best a talented amateur in this area. I intentionally make her out to be better than she is for comedic purposes. Her only real advantages in this area are her physical beauty and her exotic appearance.

>I'll need to think some more about this.

I think we should do it unless we come up with a better idea before the doctors get ready. For being raised and living where she was, even having demonic blood, this sister looks pretty damn good; and it could be argued there was an obligation to save everyone even if she wasn't.

At any rate, the Mystery Box works as an accumulator, right? Could it be used to store corrupted vitae? Would such use corrupt or damage the device? Or could we otherwise use it to deal with the corrupted vitae?

if the procedure has been done many time with human donors successfully, why take the risk of using me as a donor instead?
What is the benefit of specifically using me over a human donor.

Also, we should mention to her that we might have an alternative to that. namely angelification

>What are you going to do about the Demon Lords?

for the sorcerer enemy, help take him out.
for the guy with gambling, try to seduce him into losing money without actually putting out.
for the guy whose wife's fate was eaten, either avoid or try to convince him seek revenge against the demons who did this to him (the rulers). under no circumstance are we to deal with such a major demon.
for the cure, explain about the angelification method.

Good point, I'm answering this despite the doctors having gone, as I forgot to include it in the official answer.

"Human donors only extend the patients life" replies Dr Hoskins "We believe using you as a donor will provide a true cure."

Demon Lords

Should we start with the fate eater, or with the sorcerous assasin? I'd probably start with the assassin. We should read up a bit on fate eaters to figure out how to deal with it. I'm not thrilled about giving that thing memories/fates/whatever it is it eats for breakfast, but we need that wife back.

>>33790502
I'm in agreement. It definitely seems like it will boost our powers, especially our will. Which is a requirement IF we even want to be able to use Heaven's Rebirth.
>>
>>33790502
for the box, we should go hunting for a storm and then trap it in the box. now that we have completely figured it out that should be perfectly safe!
>>
>>33790502
While I agree that we should learn more about the core, it's not really relevant to the situation.
We either need to make our peace with being weaker, accept whatever possibility of a minor change the corrupted vitae might provoke or find another way altogether.

>>33790514
No, it's not.
Our hypothetical maximum willpower is now high enough to use it, since Lightning Halo's +10 is factored into it.

Personally, I don't want to use it in the first place, there are much better uses for our XP, like getting L4 sorc so we can get the spell to go home.

Stop with the Host-Lust, Mathrian, it's getting a little obnoxious.
>>
I have an idea.
What if, instead of doing the heaven's rebirth thing ourselves, we pray to our goddess and ask if there is something she could do to heal this problem once we bring down the barrier?
Surely she has an angel who can cure this properly that we could summon once the barrier goes down
>>
>>33790291
>but the powers of the blood I excel at are all about getting people to do what I want them do, making deals, making them want me, or want to help me
you know, at first i was strongly again this... but having some demon power mixed in with our angel powers sounds beneficial.
for one thing, it could help us blend a lot better in this world. For another, all her powers are about diplomacy boosts which we are awesome in

You spend some time alone, praying to Velya, after an hour or so, you hear her voice, somewhat faintly.

“Yes my child?” she asks.

You explain about Ellahi and ask if Velya or one of the other gods can help her.

“We can” she says, the simplest method would be to turn her into a human.”

“Not a half-angel?” you ask hopefully.

Velya replies “The gift of such a transformation is never given lightly, many require such an individual to prove their commitment before even considering it. Some require years of testing before they would do such a thing.”

“And you, My Lady?” you ask hopefully.

“I would consider it” is all the answer she gives.

Am I truly that obvious?
Either way, that's about the same as my priority list, except with less time-consuming tasks such as inquiring about our sister's opinion on transformation and investigating planar travel higher up.
We can probably read a copy of the book on dimensional magic on the way to the sorcerer's.

>>33790873
If we find a non-angelic transformation option, I'd prefer that.
Otherwise, angel trans unless there are extenuating circumstances. (i.e. our sister doesn't want it or her health takes a sudden turn for the worse before we have the ability)

“What can you tell me about Hanadrirac, the Fate Eater?” you ask.

“Oh” she says, a note of distaste in her voice “that one.”

“Hanandrirac is a very powerful demon, easily able to carve out a large domain in the Hells, though so far he hasn’t done so. He can swallow a part of a person’s future or past – meaning that events they took part in never occurred, or that a chance to take a particular future path is either impossible, or so horribly corrupted that choosing such an option would result in everything you do failing.”

“Is it possible to deal with him at all?” you ask

“Possible? Yes” she replies “but very risky, the Lords of Hell require all demons of a certain power – which Hanandrirac is – to swear an oath upon their names that they will never break a bargain they make, ever. This is usually followed by the demon being forced into a bargain by the Lord whose domain they occupy regarding defending the domain, and not betraying the Demon Lord.”

“Hanandrirac would not simply kill you were you to enter his lair, as doing so may disrupt whatever plans the Demon Lords have for you. He is likewise unlikely to capture you, as this could also disrupt their plans. He will instead attempt to ensnare you into an unfavourable bargain that leaves you beholden to him, or eat a part of your fate for his enjoyment – removing events in your past or prevent you from taking certain paths in the future.”

“He may simply refuse to see you, or expel you if you irritate him.”

>That’s everything
>Ask other questions (what?)
>>
I still don't see why people want to vote on how to heal Ellahi now. It's literally years until it matters. Given our current rate of progression I estimate we will have enough exp to dispell the barrier and enough power to enact any plans regarding the demon lords within very few months. And after that we can come back at any time we want.

Looks like demon lords have ways of ensuring loyalty of their underlings.

He seemed to hate us in particular.
He might also hate Konig, but he gave us a magical stroke when we went near his shrine.
It was definitely a follower of Kilran, due to the thief trying to call upon Kilran's aid against the werewolves. Unsuccessfully.
>>
“Do any of the host of heaven hold ill will towards me?” You ask

“Not that I know of” replies Velya “Why would they?”

“Why does Kilran hate me?” you ask

“Ah yes” she says “he had one of his followers steal the Horn, something to do with a feud with Konig, though not all the details are clear, he is currently being dealt with.”

“What can you tell me about my mother?” you ask.

Her answer is a while in coming, her voice getting fainter “That is a long story, and I fear we do not have the time.”

Ok, time for one last question “Is a fate recoverable in any other way than the demon giving it up voluntarily?”

You can just hear Velya before her voice disappears “Only by killing him, or having a greater power force him to give it up.” And then she is gone.

You return turn to Ellahi, now on her third cup of wine.

“What the doctors said might not be the only options” you say.

“Oh?” she replies.

“I may be able to transform you from a demon-blood into an angel-blood” you explain.

She raises her eyebrows “Really, you can do that?”

“Well, not yet” you say “But I believe it’s a power I may one day learn.”

She waves dismissively “Well, when *one day* happens, I’ll consider it then.”

that would mean bargaining with a demon lord, which is a no-go, or turning him to our side, which seems about as likely as... hm, can't think of anything similarly absurd actually.
I wonder how the oaths that might bind Hanandrirac work in relation to inheritace. Would he be compelled to obey Ruler's daughter if the Ruler got killed?

“Angel isn’t your only choice” you say “You could also become human.”

Her eyes widen and her wine almost falls from her hand “Be human?” she says “are you crazy?! I’m not becoming a human!”

“I thought you wanted equality for everyone” you say

“I do!” she insists “But I’m not becoming a human, I’d be giving up all my powers, you might as well suggest I be transformed into a little girl: what sort of person would want that?”

Ok....

“I’ve decided” you say “to help you with your problems, is my word enough that you will let me look at that book on dimensional travel?”

She looks at you considering, before going over to a cabinet and removing a locked box, with a few arcane whispers the box springs open and she takes out a thick book and hands it to you.

Ok, you decide to fiddle with your box.

Last time you discovered that the box is current *off* or powered down, meaning its just a chunk of metal.

You can, at will, turn it *on* activating it.

You hold the box high above your head and lighting flashes down from the storm, hitting it.

Again and again the lightning comes crashing down, pouring into the box, but you don’t feel any pain...only power.

Bending your will to the task you force the storm into the box, the swirling clouds and rain and lightning all being drawn down into the tiny cube in your hands. When it is over the box feels warm and when you touch it you feel a tingle. It was only a small storm, but sufficient for your purposes.

Of course, someone may come to investigate. You spend the next hour hiking to another deserted location. Your clothes have dried off somewhat, and instead of being soaked, you are merely damp.

You don’t spot anyone coming to investigate the sudden appearance and then disappearance of a storm.

You cast your scrying spell (AE 32/34) and bend your will to seeing what’s connected to your Lightning Core.

And all you see is...your Lightning Core. That’s disappointing.

No, wait, this Core you’re seeing is filthy, covered in muck and sticking partway out of a stalagmite, as the vision expands you see a dark cave, within it are rusted and corroded suits of armour, only the metal parts of the armour remain, all the leather and clothes have rotted away, as have the wearers of the armour – even the bones.

The armours too badly rusted to see any identifying seals, or even get a good idea for the style of the armour.

You’re seeing a second Lightning Core....somewhere. You look around and the cave is empty except for a few small streams created by the dripping water and lots of stalactites and stalagmites. Whatever happened here was hundreds of years ago.

Still, you managed to get a very clear vision of the place, teleporting there wouldn’t be a problem – as long as it was in range. Being underground, you couldn’t ride the lightning there.

What is the name of the lightening god in our world? maybe he was the same one as the one from this world, we could try praying for him for guidance. Maybe if we collect all the boxes (which we can do via combining box linkage, scry, and teleport) we could make a super weapon out of them. Or supremely empower ourselves in combat.

Also, I got an idea for refining our plan a bit:
Step 1: retake the storm nation
Step 2: bring down dimensional barrier
Step 3: Use horn to assassinate the administrator archdemon (preferably lure him out using his daughter first)
Step 4: Immediately teleport and hide in storm nation for the 24 hours for the horn heroes to recover. If the warrior archdemon comes for us during this period of vulnerability, his armies will break on the magical storm. Worse come to worse, we teleport escape to our own world to recover and then back to this one to take him out.
Step 5: Once horn heroes recovered, use them to take out warrior archdemon.

The rebels will seize the capital probably, rest of world will balkanize. There would still be a lot of work to do in this world. but things would finally start improving.

Another lightning bolt hits you in the head, even though you’re prepared for it, it still hurts.

You see...history. The civilisation the built these Cores existed long before the Drache Empire, they knew how to channel both arcane and divine magics using metal-working and architecture. At one time they dominated most of this plane.

For thousands of years all lived under their rule, they had an oppressive caste system, ruled by those with the strongest magic, and they regularly made sacrifices of intelligent beings to their gods.

Some of the powers they use seem....strange, elemental powers you’ve never seen before, the chosen of the gods drawing upon the four familiar elements, as well as the power of the sun, moon and stars. They used their powers to enhance their physical and mental prowess and channelled magic through combat styles and martial arts forms.

Their architecture regulated magical and natural energy flows across the empire, accumulating it and shaping it to their purposes.

But internal rot set in and the empire declined, by the time the Empire of Drache was rising, only a few outposts remained, and they were easily swept away.

But they never planned small. Before they were wiping out, the highest caste, the priests, devised a plan to turn the Elemental Collection Nodes of the Storm Dragon He Who Reigns Above the World into weapons capable of killing the Demon Lords invading this plane, but you...can’t...quite...see....the plans.

>what would change from just not reabsorbing the essence if we throw it in the box?

Having us be conscious when retaking the essence might allow us to direct how we want to take it back, it might allow us to take it in small doses, it might allow us to purify the essence with divine power now or later, it might also be perhaps manipulated or utilized by the box itself.

But yeah, I'm not very favourable towards risking the artifact unless we find out more.

Using Ellahi to draw out the Ruler wouldn't work, he knows she plots against him and won't walk into an obvious trap.

Do you not understand how the ability works?
It doesn't alter who we truly are, it's a temporary guise, a polymorph.
You don't call a wizard a half-umber hulk just because he turns into one.
Her powers are geared towards mind control or suggestion, not diplomacy.
Not making the distinction makes it seem like you're trying manipulating the truth and makes others distrustful of you and your side.

There's a difference, the first is something we take on, like a mask, not an alteration of the self.
The second is predominated by angelic abilities and considered part of them.

We are actually part dragon after being bonded with Ebby, there's nothing temporary about that.
>>
>>33792181
>Do you not understand how the ability works?

Bonding to a dragon familiar has magically transformed us to be part dragon just as if we were born from one. (well, except the part we don't have a dragon parent)
>>

SOME of her powers are
she also possess amazing "people reading" skill, persuasiveness, and seductiveness.
For the last one, we can "seduce" without putting out, aka, being a virgin tease. which is useful in various situations. but even without it, she does have a talent for persuasion and for discerning people's desires.
>>
>Demon-tainting is the same as dragon-tainting.
Difference being that the dragon powers were strictly an add-on. We didn't have to weaken our other powers by that. In the case of demon-taint we would take out a part of our angel power and then change that.

Another concern is that the whole point of this exercise is to help someone her because her demon-powers fight her human health. I cannot imagine those same powers working very well with our human powers, not to mention our Angel blood.

At most we would gain versatility at the cost of some of our divine powers. At worst we would weaken ourselves permanently. In-universe at least that seem to be reasonable expectations. Not to mention that being tainted by demon-energies could screw with our whole purity shtick.

You try another option from your Elemental Node. As you power it up you feel yourself sinking into the earth.

No wait, your body isn’t sinking, your mind is...merging with the natural magical energy of these place. You can feel how everything is connected, the grass, the trees, the sky, and the worms crawling in the earth underneath you.

And you can feel the scar upon the landscape that is the nearby city of Arrowgate. You can feel harsh lines of power radiating out from it, feeding on the land, and....you can see one connected to the box in your hand, and another connected to you.

Someone is scrying on you.

This deep the magical energy flows, you can maybe do something about it.

You are the one who has decided that the island impenetrable defenses, which we will be boosting, will fall. A completely ridiculous and baseless notion.
I came up with a plan to save them from an otherwise surefire destruction. and please note that its not JUST about saving that one island, we need to destroy a 5 million demon army.
What better way than to make them crash against the most powerful and lethal magical defense in the entire dimension, after boosting it with artifacts, and then calling the horn heroes to further boost the defense and break the army of the empire

time dilation between dimensions.
if we kill one demon, the empire infighting is over and its armies will once again act with purpose. due to the time dilation by the time we recharge the horn and return the demon could have wiped out the island (a logical place for him to look for us)

Also, when I said buy time I didn't think a single islander would be killed. or that the island will FALL after the 24 hours, I said that the island's defenses will NOT be breached in a mere 24 hours, giving us time to reuse the horn and win

Query: Do we estimate that this will block only the current spell (as in, they can just recast it in a minute) or is this a more permanent "Scry spells don't work anymore"?

If it's the first, finding out who is doing the scrying is more useful (might even be our sister). If it's the second, blocking scry spells would be neat.

>Probably. Still, this should a) help us against people who have sensed something from within the city and take some time to catch up to our spot
no, it doesn't it does the OPPOSITE of help us

-We cast healing
-detected by demon
-demon is 2 hours of flight away
-walk 30 minutes to a different spot in forest, the equivalent of 5 minutes of flight, demon is now 1 hour and 35 minutes away
by walking around in a snail pace through a forest we are wasting time that gives time for people to catch up with us. every time we relocate we waste more time and give them more time to close in...

on the other hand, if we just do it in one spot and then leave when done, they will arrive to find us long gone

You follow the lines of energy back to their source and you see its not coming from the city, its coming from...only a few miles away from you.

A detachment of 50 of the Crimson Guard are approaching. With them are a half-dozen sorcerers: 2 of whom are scrying on you, sat in the back of a wagon. They are accompanied by two 10ft-tall suits of animated armour, hellish fire can be seen in the gaps in the armour. They are led by a large pure demon with three faces.

Examining the energy flows you realise that the entire area around the city has wards set up to detect divine magic, when you cured your headache, you tipped them off. The only reason they haven’t found you yet is they first checked out your last location, and with 50 guards, they don’t move so fast

You can disrupt their scrying spell on you, but as soon as you do so, they’ll know something is wrong and speed up.

Also, they’re scrying for the box, as long as it is active, they can follow it, if it powers down, they’ll lose it.

Scrying spells
>Disrupt Scrying now, then power down box
>Wait, as long as you have the box active, you can track them.

Other actions
>Hide whilst they search, wait for them to get bored and leave
>Try and sneak past them
>Bluff your way past them
>Other

Using magic whilst they’re actively looking for you is possible, but will likely lead them to you.

Disrupting the scrying using the box blocks all scry spells in the area for several hours, by scrambling the local magic flows (but has no Perils of the Arcane implications).
>>

First of all, don't try and turn this around and make it look like *I'm* the guy that used them being doomed as an argument, because that's you.

Second, their defenses *would* fall, they've been weakened by Sofia's absence and unless we execute this plan in about a month, she'd need to bear a kid to re-strengthen them.
I'm not going to force the girl to do something she's made it pretty clear she doesn't want to do.
Aside from that, they've never faced a demon lord other than the Sorcerer, who surpassed the defenses when they were at full strength and was then narrowly defeated by Sofia's extended family, now all dead.

Time dilation is a thing, but who says we have to go to a dimension where that doesn't work in our favor?
There are better alternatives, you're just unwilling to admit that your plan needs work.
We could prepare a extremely well-warded safehouse in advance, for example.
Scrying is really a hit-or-miss kind of thing, based on past experiences.
>>
>>33792652
You are assuming it takes 2 hours to download info by lightening and that the demon is 2 hours away.
Even if we go with that, walking around still gets us caught.

What we did was:
-download info 30 minutes
-demon is 2 hours away
-walk for an hour (10 minutes flight)
-demon is 1 hour and 10 minutes away
-download info 30 minutes
-demon is 40 minutes away
-walk for an hour
-demon reached our last known location, been there for 20 minutes, is 10 minutes away from us.
-download info 30 minutes
-demon catches us 10 minutes into it
-walk for an hour
-download info 30 minutes
-walk for an hour

Obviously there was no demon.

The extra 1 hour walks in between (how long we actually walked) was adding up a lot of wasted time that didn't help us at all

her presence is irrelevant to the defenses might, the plan explicitly calls for her to be back there, and for it to be augmented with artifacts

>I'm not going to force the girl to do something she's made it pretty clear she doesn't want to do.
How in the fucking flying fuck did you get this shit from "seduce her and knock her up ourselves"

>Aside from that, they've never faced a demon lord other than the Sorcerer, who surpassed the defenses when they were at full strength and was then narrowly defeated by Sofia's extended family, now all dead.
they won't be facing the demons, the demons will be taking their time to amass an army on the shore, and then the army will be crashing into the storm, which we augment, with artifacts of sentimentalism and with the horn heroes.

>Time dilation is a thing, but who says we have to go to a dimension where that doesn't work in our favor?
the only other dimension we know is our own and its not in our favor, however if we find another dimension that works in our favor and recharges the horn faster, then it would be a viable tactic.

>Scrying is really a hit-or-miss kind of thing, based on past experiences.

Okay, first, by 'don't turn this around' I meant the fact that you were the one who was calling them doomed and then tried to make me look like the bad guy.
I also note that you didn't refute my statement of you calling them doomed as part of your previous argument.

Her being back there is time-sensitive unless she has a kid, and the time limit is too short; the fact that you didn't notice this combined with the next point makes me think you're the one magical realm guy from thread 9 that everyone hated.

The third thing is so fucking magical realm, I don't even know if I need to refute it, but I will.
She isn't into us, she doesn't even get how two girls could like each other in that way and stated that she *would* be into us if we were a man.
We do not have a way to change gender and if you are seriously basing your plan around that I doubt anyone will go along with it, since it would involve having to be in a long-term relationship with Sofia to raise our child, and probably stay a man during that time as a father figure.
Aside from all that, I don't think Sireyi is really into her, and I doubt she'd be willing to change genders for a long time period about it.
Also 2magicalrealm.

Now, this point is hilarious, since it defeats your own argument.
If we have the horn of heroes recharged, why do we need to hide on the Island?
Don't say 'we have to defeat the army!' either, because there isn't one army, there are 5 million trained soldiers spread across three continents, as in, most of the world, not one cohesive army.

It doesn't have to resist the Demon Lord and his armies, since they wouldn't be able to find us, presumably.

Honestly, being tracked isn't even a worry, since you seem to have conveniently ignored our core's new found ability to cockblock any and all scrying attempts.
>>
You take the widest path around them you can, sneaking and staying quiet. Eventually they are far behind you in the distance.

You move as fast as you can back to the city, though it’s long after dark.

Eventually, you reach the outskirts of the city, it’s night time.

You have plenty of money and could hire a steam carriage back to Ellahi’s, or you could walk the streets of an unfriendly city alone at night.

Danger isn’t that much of a concern, but the steam carriage driver could be on the lookout for suspicious late-night customers, and the beggars and street urchins could be watching for you.

How do you get back, now that you’re in the city?

Calm down guys. None of this is an issue at hand. Maybe it will resolve itself as we carry out our other business - perhaps the princess will meet a nice resistance gentleman while we're investingating stuff or some such.

For now I'd say it's more important to learn a bit more about the planar barrier and perhaps uncover full potential of the necromancer lords' artifacts (like our mystery box). And of course help our sis out with the murderer man.
>>
>>33793001
>Okay, first, by 'don't turn this around' I meant the fact that you were the one who was calling them doomed and then tried to make me look like the bad guy.
You are the bad guy, you are using strawmen to hurl personal attacks at me for trying to save them
And they ARE doomed.
The gods themselves declared this world doomed. The giant prophet guy forsaw that their clan will be eliminated. And without our intervention the only defense the storm island had would have fallen, and can still fall at any moment (moment sophie uses her powers, incidentally, we need to remind her that the demons can detect those)
Also, you were the one who was saying that in case of a demon attack, they will be doomed.

>Her being back there is time-sensitive
no it isn't
And you continually ignore the "boost the storm with the elemental nodes that are capable of slaying an arch demon"

>the one magical realm guy from thread 9 that everyone hated.
completely unrelated you asshole, just because i disagree with you doesn't mean i am "some guy eveyone hated"

>Now, this point is hilarious, since it defeats your own argument.

No, you are just too stupid to read.
I said
>>We on island of storms
>>24 hours cooldown on horn
>>Anti detection wards
>>If wards are breached, then they know where we are
>>It will take them longer than 24 hours to mobilize their army to attack the storm island
>>Before their attack the horn is fully recharged
>>If we were anywhere else in the dimension other than island of storm, they will take less than 24 hours to attack us (even if in north pole or something, a team of sorcerers can gate a bunch of troops at us. but they won't be able to through the storm)
its not complicated, its the most simple and obvious thing, and I explained it multiple times
>>
>>33793001
>It doesn't have to resist the Demon Lord and his armies, since they wouldn't be able to find us, presumably.
if they can't locate us due to nondetection spell.
why would being on the storm island cause the nondetection spell to fail?

either they can find us, or they can't. being on the storm island has no effect on their ability to find us, only on our ability to survive IF they find us.
>>

>>33793143
Not a bad assumption, given the similarities.

But the two are not the same thing.

This close to the city, more arcane magic is unlikely to be remarked upon. Still, Ellahi’s house is pretty far away, reaching it your Dimension Door spell is a stretch (AE 22/34) but possible.

Due to her myriad wards, you pop out just outside the gates, but after uttering the command words you let yourself in through the gates and the front door. It’s almost midnight but as you walk into the lobby, still slightly damp, Ellahi emerges from the library, wearing glasses and a nightgown.

“You’re back!” she exclaims “I’d thought something had happened to you. She rings a bell “Angelique, Angelique!” she calls “Wake up her friends, they’ll want to know she’s back.

“What happened?” she asks, looking at your somewhat dishevelled appearance.

Pick the bits you want.

So a three-faced demon was looking for me, him and his sorcerers might now what I look like. Also, I may have a lead on a weapon that can kill the Demon Lords” you say.

“A three-faced demon” she says “sounds like an Umbrecht, they’re nasty fighters – military and guard mostly. And I’ll definitely want to hear more about this weapon.”

“Right well” you say, “I’m off to bed”

The next morning you come down to breakfast to see your friends and walk into a storm of questions: Where did you go? Why didn’t you take anyone with you? What happened? Why didn’t you wake us up to let us know you were back? What were you thinking?

Sofia is scowling, Jal has a blank expression on her face, Gendric looks disapproving, Bokin looks like he doesn’t know whether to yell at you or hug you, even Ebonsong is angry at you.

Start with the most important ones:
>I totally learned martial arts by catching a lightning bolt with my face!
>Also, I found out that the lightning core stores information and can connect with other lightning cores.
>Somewhere there is a divine elemental unfinished super weapon with "Demon Lords" written on it. We just have to find it and complete it.

By the way: The magic fire on the island of storms is totally powered by a magic network created by that elemental empire. Follow it to its source and delicious divinitech awaits us.
>>
You tell the full story from the start, explaining how you went out of the city to use the Node safely, in case wild magic happened (which it did).
This seems to lesson everyone’s ire a bit and they become more interested in the story once you tell them what you learned, and everyone seems worried when you get to the part about the patrol.
You also tactfully explain about divine magic such as paladin abilities setting off wards in the city, without looking at anyone in particular.
Ellahi cuts in “Don’t worry, my houses own wards block all such detection spells, in these 4 walls you are safe.”
You then conclude about how you got back and were too tired to think straight – an explanation your companions seem to accept.

“So” says Ellahi, “This Elemental Node is this the weapon, can I see it?”

The nods around the table and noises of agreement indicate your allies want to see it as well.

This gives us a new place to work with it
>>
>>33793574
oh, and warn her about how it sucked out our magic at first

I think that was just a kind of 'ley-line' function of the core, not an elemental switch.

>>33793542
>It’s not really the weapon on its own (explain)
>You can only look if you have a shielded workshop or something to examine it in, just in case
>>
“It’s not the weapon on its own” you explain “They were planning to do something with the Elemental Nodes to turn them into weapons, and it might take more than one” say.

“Also, this thing tried to drain my powers when I first touched it” you caution “be careful, in fact you should only examine it if you have a shielded workshop or something.”

“Fine, fine” says Ellahi, “I’ll examine it after breakfast, we’ll all go down to the basement afterwards.”

After breakfast she shows you down to a well-stocked sorcerers laboratory downstairs, you can feel powerful wards on this place of protection, and against scrying and similar magics. It also has thick stone walls and a massive iron door.

Experimenting with the Node down here would be safe – nothing short of releasing the storm in here could break those protections – though those inside the room might be in danger. As long as they know when to duck behind a sturdy-looking bench they should be ok.

All of your allies want to see you and Ellahi examine the Core, but should you tell some of them to wait outside?

>Everyone can stay
>Only me and Ellahi in this room
>Some stay outside (who?)

The room is big enough for everyone, even Bokin.
>>
>>33793689
>Everyone can stay
>>
>>33793689
>Everyone can stay
>>
>>33793689
does the room has any observation screens that can defend against magic?
>>
Ellahi starts slow, examining the Node under magnifying glasses and microscopes, only touching it when she has thick gloves on. Then she starts with simple detection spells, which reveal nothing.

Then she tries casting a spell designed to suppress magical items at it, to see how it responds.

Tiny lightning bolts explode out of the Node, scattering all over the room. Most of you are unaffected but the two without any arcane powers – Sofia and Jal yelp and swear respectively from behind one of the benches as the magic seems to seek them out.

When the storm subsides the two of them poke their heads up and all their hair is stood straight on end.

Jal starts laughing at herself and Sofia.

“This is going to take ages to fix” says Sofia with a sigh, looking at the cloud of blond hair around her.

You decide Ellahi can continue, after you demonstrate some of its powers. You warn your companions they should go, but you won’t force them. They decide to stay.

Ellahi can’t seem to make any of the functions to describe to her work, nor do any of the other spells she tries on it get a reaction.

You take hold of the Elemental Node and twist it into a new conformation, trying to unlock its powers.

Everyone around you is frozen with anticipation. No, they’re frozen, unmoving.

Worried, you walk over to check on them, their eyes seem to follow you. As you reach over to check Gendrics neck for a pulse, you knock a magnifying glass off the work bench and watch it slowly fall downwards, as if in a dream.

You realise, they’re not frozen, you’re just moving very, very fast. You can also feel the storm in the box fading away.

>>
After lunch, your companions decide to keep themselves amused, with Gendric keeping an eye on Jal.

You spend the rest of the day reading through the book on planar travel.

It’s very informative: not only does it clearly describe spells on planar travel it outlines ways of overcoming their limitations – such as ways to bring dozens, or even hundreds of people via single spell, with the right power source.

It also has a section on Lost Primes, detailed how the planar barrier is threaded through with wards to alert the demons who created it as soon as anyone breaks it – pinpointing the last place they were on, on the Lost Prime.

The author advises that anyone escaping a Lost Prime had best take everything with them on the first attempt, as the Demons that rule such a plane are likely to attack the site they left with everything they’ve got.

By the time you finish the book, it is evening.

You’ve now spent two days dealing with the Elemental Node, and reading the book on planar travel.

It won’t be long until Ellahi’s doctors are ready.

You talk to Ellahi and the two of you spend a full day going through her library for information on the lost civilisation.

What you find isn’t much. You confirm that they existed, that most sources call them the Horoni, it’s unclear if this refers to the people themselves, or the empire they built.

Due to the Empire of Drache suppressing a lot of information about them, much of what is written is speculation and myth.

What little reliable information to get seems to support what you learned from the Node, but doesn’t tell you anything new.

What would you like to do the next day?

Although I don't mind either way.

Assassin.

Nope.

I'd like to do some more stuff with the node
>More stuff with the Node

Task wise I'm thinking its best to start with the sorcerous assassin. Hes likely to be somewhat easier to deal with, the Gambler MP will likely take some time and we're pretty much in agreement that the fate eater demon is bad news. Also I am vehemently opposed to going through with the doctor's operation. I believe we have access to a much better options than tainting ourself.

might as well get rid of the ASSASSIN
we'll need to get heaven's rebirth before we try to heal her imo

Which task do you plan to accomplish first?

Please limit yourself to a single option, this is about what you do first.

>Deal with Gulkil Fernahcs, MP
>Deal with Hanandrirac, Eater of Fate
>Deal with Sumin Fallos, MP
>Deal with Dravere the Sorcerer
>Heal Ellahi

First 2 options are same task, different approach

I'd say we're in agreement that Dravere needs to be taken care of first.

“I’d like to help you with Dravere” you say to Ellahi.

“Good” she says “I’ll have someone track him down, now, he’s trying to kill me, so a letter of introduction from me won’t help. But I can have someone else write one for you, if you want.”

>Take letter, call on Dravere openly to talk to him
>Try a different approach (what?)

>Take letter, call on Dravere openly to talk to him
Well whatever, seems like best option. If it fails we can get Gendric to chain him or redeeming touchu on him.
>>
>>33795690

>openly talk to him
let's go with diplomacy I guess.
>>
>>33795690
diplomacy this shit.
>>
You decide to visit Dravere, to try to talk to him initially.

Will you go alone? Or with your companions?

>Alone
>Full party
>Some of them (who?)
>>
>>33795765
>Alone to meet
full party nearby in case anything happens
Btw. I vote that after this we use the xp from this to get tele to go to the cave.
>>
>>33795765
You'll probably want to give longer for people to vote or whatever
Bring Gendric along since he has the sight
>>
>>33795765
>Some of them (Gendric)

Goodnight all. Good luck with the Dravere
>>
>>33795812

Aye, take Gendric.
