>You have a Rotten Mound (3 clips), Damocles... somewhere

>You have ... a decent amount of Brouzouf, you think
>Karma: 1/???
>You have been tagged with a Federal tracking bracer.
>Known Psi powers: Alchemy, Polycloning, Madness

You struggle to set yourself a breathing rhythm that won't cause you more discomfort than you are feeling. Once again you've abused your body to its limits, with the assistance of a looter gang and their engines of war, biological and mechanical. Typically you'd be coming to in a ditch, wondering why a bunch of shifty looking fellows of low moral fiber are pointing their guns at you. Awakening in the lap of an asian-looking girl is an upgrade, to be sure. Hell, you could get used to this.

"Those things are roaming about..."

Well, so much for the upgrade. Your abused mind struggles to regain its grasp on the here and now for a moment. You came to in the ruins of the long-abandoned terraforming station, its deformed structures part of the sights in the makeshift tunnel linking one part of the megalopolis' slums to the other. Mei-Zhen must've been spooked by whichever denizens inhabit this abandoned area, you can tell by the way she's shivering right now. It's rattling your brain in a way no survivor of a gauntlet should suffer.

"Mei-Zhen, calm down." You whimper as you rise to a sitting position. Looks like your everything provokes a stinging ache when you move. Except your optic nerve, go figure. "What are 'those things' you're speaking of?" She licks her lips. "Shadows... I think. Or smoke. They float about, and linger over old electronics. Then they start rattling." [1/2]

"When Jonny went closer to investigate, they..."

"They what?" You're not in a position to be patient with anyone's verbal hesitations right now. Not least because you invested some serious brouzouf in that scrab. And of course, he's a good sidekick.

"I don't know! He just started hovering strangely and followed those things. They.. They went down a collapsed building. I dragged us here when one of them started floating towards us."

Well. At least whatever beings are stalking about aren't monstrous predators made of nightmare flesh. You take inventory of your possessions. Your Rotten Mound is on the floor, safety off. You'll have to educate Mei-Zhen on gun safety if or when you leave this place. Your Damocles is right next beside it, still powered on. You really need to have that talk with her later.

For now, you have to get your sidekick back. You want your investments secured, right? How to proceed, though...

>Get Mei-Zhen to give you general instructions and go after Jonny alone
>Take her along with you, another pair of eyes and possibly hands

Your companion is currently unarmed, and you have a spare weapon
>Give her the Rotten Mound
>Give her the Damocles
>Tell her to keep her head down during hostilities

>>
>>33795819
Give her the Damocles.
She'd likely shoot us in the back with the Rotten Mound instead of covering us.

Have her cover us from behind whenever we are in combat. Hopefully those things attack in melee.

Take her along wiht us, obviously.

Thank god that we've got clones.

>>33795867
It depends on if and how it ties into the story.
I expect a connection at some point.

Question:
How does the bullet blocking work?

Slowly, you rise to your feet, feeling every joint twitch achingly in protest. This habit you picked up of facing unexpected supernatural complications after jobs are done is starting to grate on you. "We're getting Jonny back from wherever the whatevers dragged him to, however."

Mei-Zhen blinks at you, either in disbelief or trying to figure out what you just said. Ultimately, she nods. "I understand."

"Do you want to tag along? I know you're scared of those things, but-"

"Yes, please." Well, that was easier than you expected.

"Do you know how to shoot or swing a sword?" You hope the latter. Especially considering the lack of gun knowledge she displayed during a stressful environment. To your surprise... well, not total surprise, she nods enthusiastically when you mention 'sword'.

"My father taught me some swordsmanship, yes! Although, it was with.. asian swords." Of course it was.

"Well, the Damocles handles a bit different. Don't worry too much about 'perfect cuts' or whatever weeb shit you were taught, just swing it at things and let the distortion field do its work." She flushes a bit at your words, obviously offended at your disparaging remark. Good. Let her be angry, if that means she'll handle herself better if it comes to that. You hand her the sword, and stop yourself from locking and loading your rifle. Unnecessary.

She leads you out of the rusty insides of a cabin of some manner, and through a path of hab-blocks, a route turned tortuous by the blocking and clearing of paths as segments of the square bunkers fell apart. You can catch glimpses of the spartan conditions the early workers lived in; your ancestors shared some of your living conditions, no doubt.

"Look..." Mei-Zhen points to a transparent blur of some kind inside one of the blocks. "One of them.." It seems to be scratching away at a rusty terminal, as unusable as every other piece of hardware in the area.

Processing results and writan.
>>
You know, the tone of this quest can very well stand on its own.
It's somewhere between very edgy cyberpunk and parody. It makes you chuckle without being nonsense. The nonsense parts feel more like "it's the way it is, deal with it" like all of the insane stuff IRL, instead of being on-the-nose stuff that you can't take seriously, like in British comedy.

From Thread 2
Player >So we just walked into a sushi bar, with a wrecked face and a guy that looks retarded following us? Do we blend?

>>
>>33797819
>Sorry for the delay. Writan, as opposed to writing, is a laissez-faire affair that involves bathing and consuming dinner and fruit whilst producing paragraphs when inspiration strikes.

You must be too sore to feel scared, or you're just desensitized to unusual events by now. As you regard whatever it is that's scratching at the input board long given away to decay, a practical decision forms in your head. You don't know what the things are or their capabilities, so you won't risk yourself, or your companion. You figure you might as well cross a bridge while Mei-Zhen's depending on you, so you twist your thumb to summon one clone. Just one.

You feel as if someone drove an anti-aircraft round through your skull and immediately cauterized the crater with sulfuric acid. Maybe you'll be thankful for your trigger discipline later, if you can get back up after dropping on your face. The taste and fragrance of half-digested eggs flood your senses. You're going to become a victim of malnutrition someday.

Ivan. You hear a frantic female voice, and small hands patting firmly at your shoulders. Ivan. There's a tinge of exasperation in her voice, you notice. As if she realizes she might have to drag you around again. That would certainly be unwelcome. "Ivan!" You regain control of yourself. Although you're hearing with an echo, and a buzz frequency the likes you've never heard before, and the world is a greyscale with upturned alpha.. Involuntary spasms all over your body, you clamber back to your feet with surprising ease. The backlash of this casting attempt was less severe than you thought.

By whatever's hip to swear by nowadays, you never noticed how mauve Mei-Zhen's aura is... Wait, you never saw her 'aura'. What is wrong with you? Now, that is. Not in general.

"Please stop making noise." Your voice is impassive as you speak. You're not feeling well enough for strong emotions right now either. Why did you do this to yourself again?
>>
>>33798599
Is that an actual question or are you still writan?
>>
>>33798662

Experience assisted learning is best learning.
The book would be boring without these experiences. But because of what we've seen, we can hook our thoughts on the facts stated in the writing and actually mesh them with what we've seen.
>>
>>33798599
Oh right! The technophile ghost-creatures that stole away the other element of your investment-buddy-sidekick relationship. Where was one of them again..? Oh right, molesting an input board. Much to your lack of surprise, you notice it's not a ghost now. It's a hunched, bird-headed creature tapping away at a piece of stone. You recall seeing these things before.. And in situations involving Psi experiments as well.

It turns its gaze to you, as disinterested and forlorn as only such a thing can. It actually stops what it's doing, when it realizes.. You're staring back. Comically, it trips on its stubby legs as it starts its retreat. "Ivan, it's moving..!" The hushed voice of Mei-Zhen, surprised at the shift in its actions, bathes the back of your head in cologne. "Do you think it's seen us?"

"No doubt, baby." It manages to roll back to its feet, and shuffles away.

"Well, shouldn't we do something about it then?" Unusually forceful coming from fishy-flayer, that sentence. The 'something' was of course, left up to you to determine. "Yes, we'll do something. Like let it go away so it doesn't bite us and check out what he was fiddling with." Your unattached tone and cavalier approach, all too much for your companion, make her mauve aura turn somewhat burgundy. You stroll along, watching as the creature thing hops out an obsidian window-like thing overlapping a wall of rusting metal.

"Do those things look just like blurs to you? Maybe I'm going insane, but I saw that one as a weird bird thingy." You don't really have to look behind you to gauge her reaction, that slight pause in her step tells you she's surprised and more than likely scared. "No..?" A meek response. At least you've taken care of vague demands of "doing something" for a while. You inspect what that perverted alien creature was doing. A rather mundane carving, incidentally. It seems like he was just straightening a corner. Looking around, you notice you're in a building coexisting in alternate space with your own plane's ruins.

More interesting, however, is the triangle with an eye staring passively at you. It just so happens to be carved into the exact spot where the terminal's cables would sink into the wall, on your end. You focus back on the rusty thing, trying to find something interesting with it. Nothing, but the dilapidated Croon logo barely visible to sane eyes in this light. Somehow you're not too surprised. "Really need to look into that sometime." You speak outloud.

Sparing a glance at Mei-Zhen, you try to contain a laugh as her aura -or whatever it is- shifted to an icy blue. What little remains of your consciousness realizes how utterly alien this whole ordeal must seem to her. "Relax, babe. We're almost done getting Jonny back."

In truth, you're not entirely sure if you're anywhere close to that. [1/2]
>>
>>33800271
Wait, are we now looking into parallel planes of existence?

Are you crossing us over with Nightwatch? Are we gaining the ability to enter the Twilight?
>>
>>33800425
That would be so cool.
>>
>>33800425
>Psi shock is a hell of a drug. No intentional crossovers.

>>33800271
You take a peek out the thing that other living thing jumped through. It seems like it was inside the ground floor of a building, even as you're on a dusty forgotten ruin yourself. A group of those creatures are coming, taking a turn in a corner out of the hab-blocks, and disappearing from sight even as you should have a clear line of sight on them from their own plane. The buzzing sound is still there, and you're still desensitized and twitchy.

Guess you're still insane, right? Haha!

Well, that doesn't help you get closer to Jonny. What might, however, is that bunch of birdy-thingies you just saw, which are now making their way to you. You recognize the masonbird, dragging a significantly better dressed pair of similar creatures behind him.

Mei-Zhen's frightened gasp tells you all you need to know regarding what she sees. "They're coming for us..!" Poor girl needs to loosen up. They don't -seem- hostile, in fact the closest to hostile is the stonemason one pushing the two reluctants behind him. You're still soon to be outnumbered though.

You are vaguely aware of a chill running down your spine, as the seed of one of your less fortunate ideas begins to sprout in your mangled mess of neurons. You never do get any luck trying to get it on with human females, do you? In fact, all your recent advances haven't had anything in the way of end results. And try as you might, you don't recall a time when-

Bah! Who cares about the past! Right now, if you sort of turn your head the right way, the creatures freaking out at your lecherous stare sort of remind you of the anorexic actresses from that ad for Lady Skellington Meets the Grinder. It was your second favorite unskippable ad of all times.

"I'm going to try something different." Eerie words, you just spoke. "Keep ready for action. I'll explain later."

"..What?" You sigh.

"Ever heard of ESP? Declassified around a century ago. I'm currently experiencing so much mental trauma, I can see across planes of existence."

"... How did you..?"

"Later!" Nah, not giving all your secrets away -just- yet. You still have to discover if your privates are of a matching pair with their own. How to do so...? Well, you have a few ideas. You hold the butt of your rifle close to your codpiece, sort of tug it around and make a face that looks like you're having a heart attack. And you fire off a round into the ceiling, of course after moving the mound away from your sensitive bits. Can't have too much trauma in that area in such short notice.

The creatures go from scared, to disturbingly fascinated, and finally mortified by your shot. Whatever it is you did, they appear cowed by your display. You never broke eye contact as you fired, did you? Hunched more than usual, their bodily language beseeches you to follow them. Well, that worked for... something.

The trio leads you through a bunch of streets on their plane, which so happen to coincide with abandoned installations of some variety on your own. "We're coming close to the place they took your Scrab..."

You come up with the darnedest plans sometimes! You even got Mei-Zhen to come closer to you, either by the fear of walking into an unknown area where your cybernetic companion was taken hostage, or the fact you're entering a cramped shell of a carriage of some sort, precariously hanging over an abyssal ledge. The five of you leave the ruins of the near past, and walk into a cavern.

"It's so dark... Can you see anything at all?" Your human companion grabs a hold of the back of your shirt. Sheesh, you could show some more skinship for all these troubles, girl... "I can." One line time, chicks dig one liners.

"Identify yourself." The familiar electronic voice of your sidekick echoes through the caverns. Somewhere to the left, which incidentally is where the creatures are taking you. You're in some manner of temple right now. "Coming for you, Jonny!" You reply.

"My system requires rebooting. I am having inordinate amounts of distortion across my sensors, which must be affecting my movement capacities."

"Are these distortions you speak off around my waist?"

"Confirmed."

"You're just seeing... ghosts of some sort of creature then. They like abusing pieces of junk metal, so they dragged you along. I guess."

Jonny stares at you quietly. You stare back at him. There's a period of uncomfortable silence between everyone in the cave.

>Try to head back out before you break your own record of idiocy for the night
