Stage 22: Breaking Rules, Barriers, Demigods, and other Precious Things.

“I don't know what they offered you, and I don't know what they have told you, but they weren't important enough, it wasn't enough of either, Hidesato-san. Whoever they were, they threw you into a youkai nest without any warning or any hint as to what could happen.”

You are currently circling the courtyard of the Temple of Forgotten Flowers and Stones, facing off against a demigod who claims to be descended from Fujiwara no Hidesato. Her barrier combat is at the second tier, but so is yours. More importantly, the gifts that your loved ones have given you – faith, love, strength, hope, all of it – has awoken a closer and more intimate tie with the elemental forces that exist within all things. You may still be a Water dragon, but you are a Water dragon who knows her place in the scheme of the universe.

You lash your overly long tail as you air-walk inches above the eart, closer to a being of spirit than you are a mortal at the moment. Shock white hair floats in the nonexistent breeze, and your right and left hand glow with ruby and sapphite light, while the scar along your chest shimmers with lighting. Your Pearl is bigger than a man's fist, and it glows an unearhtly untraviolet. Your skin is the grey of unworked stone, smooth and yet supple, though your left arm is mostly indetructible.

“I hope what they offered was worth your life Hidesato-san. It certainly cost Kushinada hers.” That sad creature is lying at the edge of your small Barrier, which encompases only the courtyard, and the lamps that surrounded it. It is within yet another Barrier, where Hinata-hakase and your priestess Kiku-chan await your victory. You actually only dislocated her arm and strangled her into unconsciousness, but you're working very hard at keeping that fact from Hidesato. “Still, you may yet survive this, if you take the oaths Kushinada would not. Serve Hinata-hakase. Repent your sins, purify your soiled karma with her. Promise not to reveal what you have seen, and I will not have to kill you.”

Hidesato-san whirls the wicked yari around, and stops still, forcing you to stop as well. Unlike the first tier of Spear and Style – or your own Sword and Style – her Shen will power the assault, making it potent and deadly.

Just as it will yours. Except you have more Shen and more abilities to use it on than she does. And possibly, far more to lose. You grip your youkai-possessed wakizashi....

RYUKUZA QUEST! FUCK YEAH!

Hey guys, I had an idea:

What if we give the Grass Cutting Sword to the kami and youkai that come to this temple (or give it to the temple for the kami and youkai)? They're spiritually hungry, and that sword is full of power. Not to mention the number of people that will come and give their prayer here to see an Imperial Treasure.

Why do I think we should do that? For one, it would feed the spirits, and making others smile is Ryukuza's main activity. Secondly, on a more pragmatic point of view, it would help make the spirits of this temple and Hinata into our allies, and we'll probably need them down the road.

Thirdly, running around with that sword would probably make even more fuss than before, and I don't think it's easily concealable, even by magic means. Everyone who has a link (friend or foe) with the Susano will try to take a shot at us, and this will slow us considerably.

What do you guys think?
>>
>>33818242
Human agents. Half-spirits of any sort lose power outside their own 'territories'. Ryukusa would be very weakened in Austrialia, and helpless in Africa.

Wizards, sorcerers, priests and other 'spellcasters' don't have that issue.
>>
>>33818137
Five strikes to five points

This is giving this feeling of disabling more than outright murdering her with this blow, either we strengthen our position of convincing her to yield and swear the oaths or we disable her for a more definite killing blow next round especially as we know she is skilled enough to survive that long
>>
>>33818282
I also wanted to enshrine it, though I'm not sure whether it should be here. I was suggesting the most honored shrine around, where it would be least likely to be taken from, lest some serious Wrath be invoked. I want somewhere Susanoo will think twice about taking something from, and I don't know if here qualifies.
>>
>>33818282

You mean, leave a weapon meant to kill us in a public, freely accessible place, in the hands of someone that is maybe, just maybe potentially an ally of convenience at best, and unable to prevent anyone more powerful than her to just walk inside and help himself to the sword?

Keep in mind that the sword is also AMATERASU'S and not Susano'o's in terms of ownership. I'd imagine that Ammy would love to have it back as well. I don't know how Kushinada got it in the first place, but she definitely shouldn't have had it.
>>
>>33818137
>[] Fire
Let's find out what this does
>>
>>33818334
We could entrust it to Hinata and swear and oath that it belongs only to Amaterasu so she is to protect it until it is claimed
Because you know she is held to any path by the youkai
>>
>>33818327
It actually HAS a shrine dedicated to it. The Imperial Shrine of Atsuta in Nagoya. Considering the Kami there include Susano-Oh and Amaterasu and it is a symbol of the emperor of Japan feeding it to youkai or leaving it in a different shrine might be considered poor conduct.
>>
>>33818282
I don't think youkai can feed off a sword meant to killcreatures like them, and its a divine weapon even if people can see it, they wouldn't recognize its significance, would they?
>>
>>33818291
Does that apply to legendary weapons as well? Like if we saw someone bringing Longinus along will it be ludicrously deadly or just extremely deadly?
>>
>>33818421

Okay. For the sake of discussion, let's admit Hinata-hakase is trustworthy. What prevents one of our truely mighty opponent to walk in, bitchslap her into her kitchen, and claim the sword for himself (or beat the truth about us out of Kushinada for the matter) if he gets desperate enough?
>>
>>33818137
>[x] Damning Blade of Darkness.
>>
>>33818421
>>33818462
Can we just... go visit Ammy? I wanted to go see the Divine dragons too, and with Kuraokami it seemed possible, since the Oni we need to deal with are likely in direct contact with him. I'd love to just show up like 'Heeey, Ammy, brought your sword. Try to keep it out of the hands of dragonmurdering bigots, please and thank you."
Though much more graciously. Making nice with Ammy'd be awesome, and probably be a plus when we want to pick up the Mirror or whatever.

[X] Fire

Despite its unfamiliarity, take the mantle of the Element of your miko, your priestess, that so adorable loli-dragonette that you can barely keep....well, you can't keep your hands off of. Even as Hidesato whips the spear in a tight circle, you see her slowing, the shine of of her lightning and darkness infused power shimmering through her body and up the blade. The lightning cracks as the dark thunder is broken, but you're not even there. You're already beside her, moving in a blur of grey flesh and dark hakama and white silk – both your hair and the wrapping about your chest.

She is still turning, trying to track your movement as silvery lightning fills the air behind you. You slip your left arm along her throat, planting your left foot between her legs, all the time in the world to plan the maneuver. Your right hand comes up, and you hold the blade just behind her head, as you bring her down, the aiki-throw simple, basic, and performed as such speed that you slice through her topknot and slam her to the ground before the lightnings she conjured even have time to dissipate completely.

You quickly step several paces back as the world resume a more normal speed, and watch as her thick black hair slowly drifts around her head, falling across her face like dark rain. She throws her legs up and around, and whips the spear around, but you're already far enough away that she isn't going to hit you with it.

“Do you feel your Shen waning, Hidesato-san? Even as your power increases, the energies of your spirit decrease. I feel it. But less acutely than you do.” You're only as tired as you would be after the first step of combat, not the second; you can easily manage a third, and the fourth will drain you, but it won't paralyze you or leave you near exhaustion.

The demigoddess stares at you, the spear gripped tightly, the point aimed at your heart. “What are you....that was no power of a Water dragonette! That was the power of Flame!”

You doubt you'll have access to another elemental force during this combat, but she doesn't know that.

Well, in terms of history the Imperial Treasures were stolen by the Taira clan ages ago when they fought with the Minamoto. The Taira then ended up tossing the sword overboard when they were losing the final battle at sea. Stories conflict on whether it ended up back in the hands of people or if it stayed down in the water.

Kushinada could have therefore either found it or flatout stolen it like a bitchass punk.

At the same time, investing some effort in contacting Amaterasu would still be a good idea in regards to the fate of the sword. As the sword's proper owner and the leader of the Amatsu, it's important to gain a good relation with her. Especially with Susano'o already potentially pulling some dick behavior.

[X] Take the oaths, learn the secret. This is the last chance you'll have.
[X] If you want to know, you'll have to die for it, Hidesato-san.
[X] Smirk.

You don't normally allow yourself to be smug. But by the kamuy, this time she asked for it. You give her a smirk and just shake your head lightly, her question more ridiculous than a rhetorical one. I mean, she can't believe that all dragonettes look like you, or have Pearls so large and glowing like the radioactive core of some alien monster robot....right?

She plants herself in a very stable horse stance and braces the spear along the back of her neck, her hands reaching alongside the spear to either side. A third tier assault is no laughing matter and your expression becomes much more serious. She is definitely gathering her power.

“I already told you that the only way you can learn that is to take oaths and make promises.” You point the tip of your wicked black steel blade at the leavings of her hair, which is now cut girlishly short for a warrior. “I have given you ~every~ chance, Hidesato-san! Is it truly something worth dying for? I have lots worth killing for!”

Her eyes flick to her hair, and she closes her eyes, clearly thinking. You don't let your guard down for an instant of course; this is no Kushinada or Anonimous. She looks at you seriously. “We will simply have to see.” She starts gathering power and flip the wakizashi around, holding it in reverse grip, the blade away from your right arm, your left arm before you.

“The in the service of the family of Ryuu Ryukusa, you will take that oath now, or die.”

She flexes her arms, the spear starting to bow around her neck slightly, destructive energies flooding it....

[X] One Fell Blow Divides the World.

Hidesato brings both arms forward, the spear shattering against the back of her neck – but the breakage doesn't stop there. The two halves of the yari pause parallel to her as she extends her arms her hands up and palm out to you. The wood splinters, fragments, and then the metal explodes into deadly slivers of silver and iron. The tiny needles of varying materials hover next to her....and then she flips her hands flat.

Stepping up to stand straight, your right hand casually flipping the sword again and then drawing the blade up, tracing a line across the courtyard with a single sharp crack of thunder, even as she directs a hundred-thousand splinters of wood and steel and iron at you. You raise your arm to cover your face – there's no dodging this, only withstanding it. You feel the splinters tear at your clothing, but it's the needles that actually hurt you. Like deadly hail, they slice through skin and flesh, piercing your body deeply.

You falter as several strike nerve junctions and tsubo points along your meridians; you can't imagine it was even slightly accidental. Still, the hail is gone, and your clothes, though torn, are not completely useless. One breast is bared, but you don't concern yourself with that as you pull a set of needles from your right arm. The only places on your body not streaked with blood are your face and your lower left arm.

There is a thick black line that has sliced across the entirety of the courtyard....and across Hidesato, from her left hip, to her right shoulder, her armor shattered along that line.

With a soft sigh of resignation, you walk slowly over to Hidesato, who is clutching her breasts, holding her chest together with her hands. Black blood foams from the deep cut, only streaks of red showing her natural blood color. Even the blood that spills form her lips is black streaked only a little with red: the venom of Ame-no-Omukade-no-Musume is pernicious, to say the very least. She's dying, and quickly. That's the worst part of the venom of the mukade....it's a paralytic as well as a digestive. Of course, she's lost the battle; you could trap her in a Barrier....

She looks at you, going to one knee, slowly, keeping her body together with main strength.

[X] You stupid, foolish woman. I tried so hard.

“You know that I could force my power upon you, trap you in a Barrier?” You don't really want to do that; she may have been misguided, but in comparison with everyone you've been dealing with so far she was at least forthright about her treachery and skilled in battle. Also, you're not really too sure about the repercussions of doing that to a real person, as opposed to the mukade youkai.

She nods, straining not to cough.

Going to one knee before her, you look her in the eyes, your tail lashing slowly, your hair ghostly and shifting. Your eyes light up her face, and as you speak you can see the golden fires in your mouth shimmer in the reflections of her eyes. “Were your secret masters worth dying for, Hindesato-sama? Was it worth this death to serve their will?” You stare into her eyes, but she cannot keep the gaze for long. “Tell me a name, give me a sign, that I may take your revenge upon them.”

She hesitates....then shifts her left hand to try and keep her chest from spreading any wider and spillign more than merely blood. Dipping two fingers in the black ooze that is her poisoned blood, she lifts them. Obliging her last request, you offer your left hand for her to write upon. The kanji she paints is that of 'aid' and then 'bumon'. You nod slowly, and then simply turn your hand to the side, spilling the poison from your skin without effort.

You see the surprise in her eyes as you take a step back. “I ~am~ a Water dragonette. Trying to poison me was really kind of dumb, I expected better of you.” You strep back, and your eyes flash as you lift your right hand. “I did not want to do this, Hidesato-san....but you earned it.”

>Ryukusa got it coming now.

I think you mean Hidesato. And frankly, it's what she really has earned. Multiple chances to step down, interfering in a duel, THREATENING HER OWN FRIEND'S LIFE? Yeah, she deserves what's coming, not a damn escape like death would be.
>>
>>33820911

Are you genuinely this stupid, or only pretending to be retarded?
>>
>>33820936
Yeah but the pastebin says sealing her is a dishonorable display and could entail picking up some bad Karma. I don't think she's worth that. Better to just kill her. But I woke up to late for the vote so whatever.
>>
>>33821120
And all the other things Hidesato had done were any more honorable? I'd say the circumstance certainly puts some perspective on whether it'd be considered dishonorable or not. Far as I'm concerned, it's a proper punishment for a dishonorable dog that would stoop as low as threatening their own friend's life.
>>
>>33821076
So people just happened to decide to samefag the hell out of three votes in a row - the same amount of votes, too, give or take - rather than, say, more people showing up and the end of the fight combining cool and important votes with lack of pressure related to making wrong decisions since things are pretty much set? Get off your paranoid high horse anon. Last thread had almost as many voters for lots of votes too, and Friday instead of Wednesday can easily explain the 3 - 4 vote disparity.
>>
>>33821120
>>33821172

Honor is a pretty complicated thing in the first place when it comes to the Eastern cultures. Death is generally seen as an honorable end to a life while in terms of the Western cultures, we see it in other ways.

Cultural values can be a rather interesting study.
>>
Wait. What about the bad karma we get if we transform people into our slaves? Do we have to deal with that shit?

[X] Devoured and Imprisoned by Divine Right.

You step back and lift the black blade and your left hand. “And just so you know....Kushinada lives. You'll live too....after a fashion.”

Her eyes go wide as darkness coalesces when the eight lanterns flames go black. They still shed light, but the sky twists and curls, the rumble of thunder and flicker of lightnings. “Daughter of Fujiwara no Hidesato! Your dishonorable conduct, your cruelty, and your weak will has poisoned your karma! I absolve you of your crimes and curse you to serve my will in redemption for your karmic debt! Witness now the True Nature of she whom you have crossed one time too many!” The black flames cast black shadows upon the ground, which ooze and crawl towards Hidesato, even as the flames become pillars of black fire. In seconds the courtyard is awash in darkness, and you feel your True Self rise up behind you.

But this is YOUR power, the power of Ryuu Ryukusa! The spectre of your true self is only that, a spectre....but it is enough. Hidesato screams the name of your True Nature as she is devoured by the shadow of your self. The shadows dissolve, the black flames recede, and you tremble, breathing heavily.

So that's what a fourth tier power is like. Fuck that noise.
>>
>>33821172
She certainly deserves killing, but I don't think she deserves us potentially soiling ourselves. Besides do you really want to have her around in any capacity?

You walk unsteadily to where Kushinada lies unconscious, her arm really at a terrible angle, her dislocated shoulder maybe a it more than simply dislocated. You check her health, and she is deeply unconscious, the interruption of the spell, being strangled, and the heavy injuries already inflicted too much for her. At least you know Hojo Group is behind her and Hidesato's attacks, thanks to Hidesato trying (and totally failing) to poison you.

Guys, need I remind you that leaving Kushinada with Hidesato is the best way to leave an "easy" (all things considered) access to the information we don't want to go out, as I mentioned here? (>>33818493)

It's much safer, for everyone included, to seal her until this whole affair is over (or at least until the cat's out of the bag), and offer her a chance at redemption then...
>>

Ok, so, the people who voted for this. Did you remember the warning about how it is REALLY bad karma to do this to someone?

[x] Dismiss the Barrier, let Hinata-hakase take care of her.
[x] Dismiss the Barrier, do some basic first aid on yourself.
[X] Drop the Barrier Combat form, cover up a little, then dismiss the Barrier.

Kushinada is less than no threat, and you really don't need to tempt Hinata-hakase any more than you already have. With Hidesato trapped within your Barriers, her Barrier is already down; so you take your much more delicate, prettier, and much nicer human-esque form. And your hair goes completely one step from black, the deep, deep, deep midnight blue that you much prefer. You also go to your knees, because while you may have had more Shen to work with, you still took it one step from the end of your strength. Also, fuckin' bleeding.

You set Kushinada's shoulder as best you can, and borrow her gi, doing little more than throwing it over one shoulder to cover your bare breast. You pull out a few more of the worst needles, and finally drop the Barrier.

To your surprise, you're facing the temple, and Kiku is on the porch holding a naginata that is at least three times as big as she is. There are also spectral shadows sliding through the air around the courtyard, and just looking near them makes your head start to pound and your heart to beat faster. Those are some terrifying fuckin' youkai, and you're not just fuckin' saying that.

Hinata's chant slows, and then there is a soft ringing of a bell as she drops her hands, which makes your Shen ache in ways you had no idea it could. The visions fade, and you are in courtyard, which is undamaged by all the trials and destruction you and your enemies poured into it, no ghosts or youkai.

Leaping off the porch Kiku abandons her weapon and is at your side in an instant, gasping as she sees the needles and splinters in your skin. “Baka-dragon, what in Heavens were you thinking? You could have been killed and we would never have known it!” she kneels next to you, her hand sketching at the air, as she tries to figure out how best to start helping you. In spite of her hot blooded accusation, she looks much more worried than angry.

[] “Ah, my bitsy dragon, how I missed the dulcet tones of your insults and the lovely complaints about my intellect!”

They are when they are coming up with the idea of leaving the grass cutting sword here
They aren't when choosing to not enfeeble themselves to the point of being killable by mortals just to seal an untrained demigoddess when we have more traditional methods of dealing with her that aren't barrier combat.
>>
>>33821779
>Don't forget the second most important thing

>>
>>33818282
There are some REALLY powerful beings who would want it and hinata temple won't stand against them
But if you are right about being able to feed from the sword, this might significantly weaken it. Which could very well be the first step in whatever fate we ultimately intend for it (mount doom, or transformation)

Then there is the option of ameterasu some mentioned.

Okay, have Kiku seal her away, then... My point is, don't leave her somewhere accessible where a being powerful enough can come and beat the truth out of her.

[X] “Ah, my bitsy dragon, how I missed the dulcet tones of your insults and the lovely complaints about my intellect!”
[X] “Kushinada is still alive. I think there's hope for her.”
[XX] Stroke her hair and smile. “It is all right, I won.”
[XXX] Kiss her forehead and press your finger over her lips.

You take both of her hands in yours, and gently put them in her lap. The you lean forward and kiss her on the forehead, your hand lifting to silence her for just a moment. She quiets immediately, and her eyes leak tiny wisps of steam. Leaning back you look down at her with a small smile, and slide your left hand – one of the few places not coated in blood – through her hair. “Chiisai-dragon, your beautiful voice will forever sing my condemnations and humiliations.” She looks up at you and takes your right hand in hes....then softly kisses your bloodied knuckles, slowly and carefully.

You glance up at Hinata-hakase, who is approaching with an appraising look in her eyes. She is holding the mantle up over her head again, as though hiding from the sky. In fact,t he only time she has lowered it was when she was inside a building. Interesting.

“I believe that Kushinada can be helped. In fact, I think she can be brought out of her self-inflicted hell, and given the opportunity could become a great person.” You take a deep breath. Kiku-chan takes your hand in hers and kisses your palm, but her lips are moving. You sigh and lower your head, a single nod to show you've understood. “I would rather not kill her, Hinata-hakase, but I cannot let her whisper my secrets to anyone. Will you do me this kindness, and prevent my soul from being stained by her murder?”
>>
>>33822466
we are nice with our lovers
>>
>>33822495
Hinata-hakase glances at Kiku, who is currently cradling your hand against her cheek, swaying back and forth, looking like the pure, innocent little dragonette she totally isn't. “So, since you ask in such a way, of course I must do this thing. So, I will bind her in silence and purify her soul, and if it as you say one day she may leave this place a better person.” Her yellow eyes gleam as she glances at Kiku-chan again, and you pull a set of needles out of your thigh that are making your muscles twitch.

The head of the Temple of Forgotten Flowers and Stones smiles slightly. “Come, Ryuu Ryukusa, and we will tend your wounds.” She pulls a white and black ofuda from her sleeve and places it on Kushinada's forehead, where it immediately adheres, and the demigoddess' breathing immediately evens out into deep sleep.

You allow Kiku-chan to help you up, and you note that a lot of your muscles are definitely jumpy and twitchy. Those needles and splinters along your energy meridians are starting to cause trouble. You glance up at the torii at the back of the temple as the priestess leads you inside – Hinata, not Kiku, who is helping you walk as best she can – and look up at Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi. You can't see how destructive it is outside a Barrier, but it is definitely buried hilt deep in the arch.

I am actually thinking that letting her contact them is a favor to her, rather then us. We have amatersu's blade, we are letting her go up to amaterasu and say "hey, a contact of mine has your blade and wishes to give it back", this doesn't just put us into amatersu's good graces, it also puts hinata into ama's good grace as well. >>33822873
Since the imperial line stems from Amaterasu
and Kushinada is her niece, I would assume that counts as close enough.
>>
>>33822873
And >>33822521 does mention an option with "a demigod or one of the male Imperial line to collect it anyways."

I'd say that all that seems to matter is divine blood in some form.
>>
>>33822873

Kushinada being a psychopatic killer probably made her an appealing wielder. And unhinged her even further.
>>
>>33822939
its funny that being female is a bigger problem than being a peasant.

but yea, demigodhood is a solution...

Although, we could choose to keep it for ourselves and use against any dragons if we assume demigod status, because at that point we won't have problem wielding it anymore
>>
>>33822955
I am not sure the sword is as wicked as you think it is.
Aside from being a demigoddess, according to legends and lore susano is one of those who has claim to the blade, as his daughter she inherits said claim

[X] You can work out this deal....healing in trade for guarding the blade, provisionally.
[X] Ask her if she can help you contact Ryujin-Okami or Amaterasu-Okami.
[] Healing first; if Hinata asks for a favor, point out her inability.
[X] Ask Hinata her price for healing you.
[] Leave the blade – it would take a demigod or one of the male Imperial line to collect it anyways.

“Hinata-hakase....I understand that maintaining the temple is a costly endeavor. I wouldn't want to impose upon you for your services, but I am in a situation where my ability to grant favors is very limited.” Miko-Kiku looks up at you, her golden eyes worried. You carefully trace the lines of her throat, the puling carotid and jugular, her delicate windpipe. She shivers, not out of fear and you smile at her.

“So, it takes great sacrifices to keep the temple and the world around it safe,” she agrees. She gestures, the mantle sliding to her shoulders as she directs Kiku-chan to lay you on a hard flat massage table, one which is low to the floor. There are moxa jars and incense sticks, and acupuncture needles, along with other, stranger things. You sit, but do not lay yourself down just yet.

“So, you may consider this my apology, for being slow to act upon Hidesato-san's actions.” you glance at Kiku-chan, who is collecting a basin of water and some towels which she soaks and makes steaming hot instantly. As she is working she nods her head just enough that you can see she is okay with that.

Lying down, they carefully strip you, and Kiku's eyes become very shimmery, the steam from them barest wisps. Sadly, you look like pinhead from the neck down. They both start carefully removing the splinters and needles, and you relax, the jumping of your muscles and the tingling in your extremities – except your left arm, which has other kinds of wounds – becoming really quite painful. So you distract yourself with another problem.
>>
>>33823141
“I am afraid I have caused you a problem, Hinata-hakase, which may become a problem for me as well.” It's really hard to find an opening that doesn't put you in debt to her right from the get go, but then again, the torii WAS the best place to put the damn sword where it couldn't hurt anyone or anything.

She works silently for a moment, as Kiku-chan cleans the blood from those places that Hinata removes the spear fragments from. “So, the blade is only a little less dangerous to me than to you. I do not wish it to be here, but here it is.” Silence falls again as you consider the best way to go about this.

“Perhaps you could place me in touch with Amaterasu-Omikami in some manner? Or perhaps....” A show of good faith wouldn't hurt, you suppose. It was apparently a secret, but still. “Or perhaps my father, Owatatsumi-kami Ryujin.”

Hinata freezes in place, and then slowly places the needle she had just plucked out in the basin of water. The half-youkai looks at you and then speaks very softly. “Ryujin is your father, so?” You nod once, the tingling in your extremities fading and your muscles acting less like electrified frogs under your skin. “So....I will make arrangements for Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi. So, it will not be a threat to you or yours for one-hundred-and-eight years. In return, when I have made certain you will be able to speak to your father, you will ask him a boon for me, so?”
>>
>>33823107
Related to this, do sacred relics like the Grass Cutting Sword also lose power outside of Japan?
>>
>>33823162
While under normal circumstances you would be able to ask for clarifications and specifications, you're playing with kami stuff now. That means you cannot ask what the boon is about; because she started making the deal you can say no, with no harm and no foul. What you can do is point out you have no power over what he says or does, though she knows that. If you point it out to her she can't hold you responsible for what Ryujin says.

[] I'll do it.
[] I won't do it.
[] May I speak with Kiku-chan privately first?
[] I need a moment to think, please.
[] It depends on the nature of the boon (that's not asking!).
>>

If you recall, the sword problems with us:
1. Most important problem - we are female
2. Somewhat important problem - we are not of the royal bloodline
3. low tier problem - we are dragon

Demigodhood will absolve us of all 3 issues in its "eyes" so to speak

From Wikipedia:
>Ryūjin was the father of the beautiful goddess Otohime who married the hunter prince Hoori. The first Emperor of Japan, Emperor Jimmu, is said to have been a grandson of Otohime and Hoori's. Thus, Ryūjin is said to be one of the ancestors of the Japanese imperial dynasty.

And Ryujin is our father. That solves 2.

Get Kiku's opinion. Since she is asking us to ask, it means that the 'boon' is something very important and/or dangerous...
The question is, is the potential future danger more or less troublesome than the danger we could face now with the Grass Cutting Blade...
>>
>>33823180
I am not sure about having her seal it for 108 years instead of returning it to amaterasu.

[] It depends on the nature of the boon (that's not asking!).
Depending on what it is, even if we decide to give it to ameterasu we could still try and get her the boon for the sake of good relationships and being owed a favor.

>Get Kiku's opinion. Since she is asking us to ask, it means that the 'boon' is something very important and/or dangerous...
it occurs to me, that we could clarify that asking for a boon for a friend, and actually having said boon granted are two different things.

Actually, thinking about it, I would much prefer to get into amatersu's good graces than to merely have it sealed up for 108 years. I mean why...

oh, OH! I just remembered the void prophecy that states that the blade will bite deeply into two of our harem (or one plus us).
Although it is a void prophecy, meaning its "probable future that can be averted if actions are taken to stop it" rather then a water prophecy of "absolute and unavoidable"
>>
>>33823180

>>
[X] May I speak with Kiku-chan privately first?
[X] It depends on the nature of the boon (that's not asking!).

You give a mild half smile, having suspected that might bring up something of this sort. “It would depend upon the nature of the boon, Hinata-hakase. I was ignorant of this fact until a short time ago. Even so, the blade hates me just as much as any of my kind.”

“So, the blade was found in the flesh of a dragon. So, it cannot bear the touch still, or ever. His hatred is strong.” The priestess resumes work, and you feel much better, between the gentle sponge bathing by Kiku and the removal of the last needles. Laying a cloth across the basin filled with the shards of wood and steel and iron, she turns back to you. “So, the boon will cause no harm to you, or yours, or humankind. So, the boon has been granted to others in the past, merely for the asking. So, you need not steal or coerce the boon from Ryujin. You need merely ask upon my behalf, so, because I may not.”

Kiku is gently washing your legs, sluicing the very hot water across your skin. You trace a question on the wood of the table as you frown worriedly for Hinata-hakase, who smiles indulgently at you. A very mild shake of her head and a kanji written across your skin with her pinkie is enough to inform you that she has no opinion or advice to offer in this matter. You don't even need to look at her to learn this. It is so NICE to work with people who have Ryo training!

So you do the next best thing.

So
1. we are technically royal family and have a right to it. DESPITE this it absolutely REFUSES to be wielded by us because we are a woman.
2. Nowhere in that post does it mention it giving a damn about us being a dragon

The biggest problem with kami-stuff is that it is kind of like playing Final Fantasy. You're on a railroad, but it's sometimes got a choice or two – the operative number being two. Still, if your priestess doesn't have an issue with it – ah. She used to practice at this temple, she might be bound by oaths.

But you can avoid one problem at least. “As long as it is clear that I cannot do more than ask on your behalf, and cannot be held responsible for his reply. I mean, he's not just a Dragon, after all, and I'm in enough trouble already, Hinata-hakase.”

Her laugh is surprisingly pretty. “So! Ryuu Ryukusa is in trouble, always and forever, until she is not!” Kiku snorts and covers her mouth with her sleeve, her eyes crinkled with laugh lines.

“Naked girl bleeding here, doesn't care.” You sigh, and then nod. “I will ask your boon for you, in return for you ensuring the sacred Grass-Cutting Blade does no harm to me or mine, whomever they are or will be, for one-hundred-and-eight years at least – while doing no harm to me or mine in the process of protecting us from the Grass-Cutting Blade. “ There is only so much you can ask for, but that little bit will keep her from shoving all of you in a barrier for that long.

She smiles, her yellow eyes gleaming. “So, that is a fair thing to ask. Please request from Ryujin permission to deliver to me the Kanju, until such time as it is no longer needed for the sake of my temple.” You sit up, looking at her in shock; Kiku stares at Hinata-hakase, her eyes huge, a pink stained towel dripping into her lap.

Kanju is one of the two pearls that control the tides....as in all of them. They were used to stop invasions from other countries by one of the Empresses. And Kanju is specifically the jewel which lowers the tides.

Hinata-hakase looks at you, her smile wide, showing several rows of shark-like teeth. “Jinyuu-onee-sama is not the only one who knows what will happen when you finally lose your temper, Ryuu Ryukusa, daughter of Ryujin, bearer of the kimoto of Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado.”

A few questions answered:

Ryukusa won't even consider attempting to destroy the sword. She'd shove it through her own Pearl first. It would be a lot like burning the Original Constitution of the US, regardless of what politics have made of it, or taking a hammer to the Crown Jewels of England, or nuking Ayers Rock. It is ~Not Done.~ Period. End of story.

Hiding it, burying it, stealing it, losing it, putting it in a vault, all good and fine. Destruction is out of the question.

Also, you're talking about KILLING A KAMI. The sword is a kami in it's own right, just as everything that is over 100 years old is. You would lose everyone in your harem for even suggesting such a thing.

About Amaterasu.

Like all the major Kami, she is 80% inaccessible to spirit children. However, exceptions can be made, on occasion -Yui, for example, served a major kami. Gettign permission to see Ryujin would be an exception. So, she can be met. And like most of the Great Kami, she knows more and sees more than you, so a lot of your discussion with her might be a little over poor Ryukusa's (and the player's) heads. Still, it isn't impossible, and she is generally the most benevolent of goddesses.

Finally, I recall a question concerning how bad your karma is fucked for Barrier trapping Hidesato. You did make it quite clear to any kami who happened to be watching that it was not done purely out of malice, but as punishment for her own dishonorable actions and cruel actions. Chances are you will avoid much of the usual backlash, especially with the redemption clause. Of course, if you abuse your power over her....

Anything else I can cover?

>on sacred artifacts
What about those artifacts that aren't sacred, but still destroyed holy beings?
Like the Chariots of Iron.
>>
Sacred Relics are sacred relics everywhere. The problem is, since the power of half-spirits wanes outside their sphere of influence, their power to control and use the relics also wanes (remember how Kushinada was unable to call upon the full power of the Grass-Cutting Blade because of her lack of training? Same thing.).

That said, sorcerers and priests can still activate them with ritual power, but it takes time, effort, and know how.

Great Kami are aware of other influences in their area, but their actions are limited - Great Kami are creatures of pure spirit, and rely on half-spirits or lesser kami and oni to do their work and bidding and duties in the real world for them. So while the Great Kami are full aware of the influences of the foreign priests, they are relying on other people (or dragonettes) to take care of the problems for them.

>>33824110
Ryukusa is fully aware that karma and fate are real things. She still won't commit a spiritual murder-suicide (literally not figuratively, that is what destroying an Imperial Treasure would be) to save Kiki or Kiku or Er Yin or Jinyuu or Yui or Akari. Nor would any of them ask or want her to.

She might call on the power of Horobi to prevent such a thing from happening though.

Killing a kami is literally killing a god. Under the correct circumstance and proper duty, it can be done by the right person using the right tools and the right rules to do so. That's why there are still spiritualists in Japan, even now.

Oba-san isn't a kami - she is a kamuy, and that's not quite the same. Kamuy are closer to being youkai than they are gods. Killing one will have far less repercussions because there are kami to take the place of kamuy. That is why the death of Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado has had repercussions, but didn't destroy the concept of destruction.

The spiritual consequences aren't hideous, though there will be repercussions (also she earned her death by killing a kamuy herself - karma and all).

>Even SUGGESTING the idea of killing a kami will cause entire harem to abandon you
wow, not so eternal love after all. not even trying to talk us out of it, just straight up "we are breaking up with you"

>>33824441
so, both kami and kamuy are gods. just different types of gods. And didn't the kami slaughter the kamuy a long time ago?

>Killing a kami is literally killing a god. Under the correct circumstance and proper duty, it can be done by the right person using the right tools and the right rules to do so.
When you say that, do you mean "can be done without being spiritual suicide", or can be done as in "achievable but condemns you".

>The spiritual consequences aren't hideous, though there will be repercussions
are there alternatives to killing her then? something like eternal seal or depowerment?
>>
>>33824441
>Under the correct circumstance and proper duty, it can be done by the right person using the right tools and the right rules to do so
Back then, pumping them full of lead worked wonders.

>However, if our ONLY choice was between destroying the sword and the life of our wives, I would choose the life of wives

And destroying the sword would STILL cost everyone their lives and make us specifically a gigantic walking target. Do you not understand that it would have dramatic repercussions that would utterly destroy THEM as well as us?

Even XS says so here >>33824044

Destroying the sword is NOT an option and should never BE an option. It will destroy everything we've worked for and the bonds of the ones that we work to protect. Use your brain and realize that you AREN'T protecting them by doing it. You're hurting them even WORSE.
>>
>>33824551
>wow, not so eternal love after all. not even trying to talk us out of it, just straight up "we are breaking up with you"
Perhaps it is hyperbole, but it drives home the thought of not even thinking about it.

Seriously, it's a stupid idea that gives us nothing and makes us lose everything.
>>
>>33824233
Yes, but that doesn't mean you can't let Amaterasu know wheere it is or what you did with it (or why). She's a very kind goddess, she probably won't blame Ryukusa at all.

>>33824254
1: Priestess, in her temple. Doign somethgin bad to one there is a blow agaisnt the spiritual health of Japan, and any of your Japanese foes knows it. The foreigners aren't going to risk that level of ostracism from their friends in Japan without the ultimate in payoff. The Grass-Cuttign Blade isn't THAT critical in killign a single dragonette, even if it is Ryukusa.

2: Hinata is at least 280 years old and Oba-san respects her power enough to look away when Hinata is obviously interfering with her plans.

Let me repeat that.

Oba-san, a known and named kamuy, let Hinata mess with her plans.

>>33824280
Giving her the sword would BE a reward. You get to look at the face of the universe itself, and be told, "thank you, you did good."

Can you even imagine being told, "well done" by the universe?

>>33824346
Questionable. Ryukusa and her companions have little information on that. Er Yin would state that in China, named weapons are named weapons, and you should be respectful of all of them at all times.
>>
>>33824617
I suddenly begin to wander if there's a Chinese Demigod around who's swinging around Lu Bu's Sky Piercer.
>>
>>33824504
>What's your point?
You just stated what my point is. here it is:
>We're both saying a prophecy isn't a guarantee and that destroying the sword is a bad idea.
You "corrected" me on 2 things which I didn't say, I clarified to you what I actually said.

HOWEVER, the discussion did evolve from that and other issues were raised. For example me saying that "if through very contrived reasons we were somehow forced to choose between the death of two wives and the death of this specific kami, I would choose this kami's death".
which sparked a separate argument over how unacceptable THAT would be.
>>
>>33824617
Wait, shouldn't Er Yin be weakened because she's in Japan and not China? Or is it a case of Dragon's being a thing in both areas so she isn't appreciably weakened? Or at least both Eastern Dragons, I doubt any dragonnettes descended from western dragons would be as fine in Japan.
>>
>>33824713
Er Yin inherited powers might be chinese in origin (aka, her father is a chinese dragon).
But regardless of those she also holds a personal position as a wife of a japanese kamuyi
>>

We could still return the sword. Heck, asking daddy for Hinata's favor has a pretty big benefit on a large scale even without the addition of protection for the sword.

i just want ammy to praise us ;-;

1) Like I said, the concept is alien to Ryukusa to begin with. That's like asking you to rip your own heart out and eat it - it's not something that occurs to you normally, and you definitely wouldn't try it. Most likely their first response is "are you possessed" and the second response would be "my god, she went insane, what the fuck do we do now?"

2) Some people (obviously) still worship the kamuy. This keeps them alive. There's an entire temple dedicated to keeping weakened and dying gods from being forgotten.

Certainly you can kill gods and demons and even great kami. but it has to be done properly, or by demigods and other creatures who can twist fate around. Ryukusa could destroy the Grass-Cuttign Blade as a demigod, if she figured out a way to do so. Would she want to? Not even remotely. It's still destroying a sacred treasure. She'd kill the wielder and put the sword away, such as giving it to Amaterasu or binding it or anything but destroying it. Even gods paid for their blasphemies in Japan - just look at all the shit Susano-Oh waded through because he throw a tantrum.

Yes, there are alternatives, Ryukusa just doesn't have any at the moment, and actually can't even really consider trying to kill her as an option. Making her leave them alone is where she's headed for at the moment.

Also consider: If the spirit-child's lives are dependent on the fortunes of japan....what kind of effect would destroying one of the very keystones of all spirituality and honor in Japan be? Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi is LITERALLY the Valor of Japan in this setting's mythology and ideology.
>>
>>33824713
>>33824768
She may be weakened.

Remember, she is older,t hat makes her stronger to begin with. Also, she's not too terribly far from China, and she also has ties to the Ainu people of Japan (pretty direct ones).
>>
>>33824836
>We could still return the sword.
The post I quoted said that we can't return it anymore. our deal with hinata blocks us from doing so.
which is why I explicitly suggested that we alter the deal to accommodate it! but was ignored
>>
>>33824915
We'll never get headpats from Amaterasu.
>>
Would surrendering the sword to a foreign power that knows how precious it is (a museum at best, the SCP Foundation at worst) be worse than destroying the sword?
>>
There are other ways Ryukusa might meet Amaterasu. That route is not closed (and was not really likely to happen to begin with).

On the other hand, you get to meet her father.

That will probably scare you enough that you may reconsider meeting the Sun.

But I've been wrong before....

To gaze upon the most radiant beauty of all would be worth it.

>>33824990
Would surrendering the Crown Jewels of England/Constitution of the United States/Ayers Rock/the Turin Shroud etc to a foreign power that knows how precious it is (a museum at best, the SCP Foundation at worst) be worse than destroying them?

No. But it would cause major upheavals in the world and especially the country.
>>
>>33825003
>meeting Izanagi
That is going to be taxing.
>>
>>33825104
I hadn't even thought of Izanagi. Now THAT would be something. Within the mythology, he is the father of EVERYONE in Japan.
>>
>>33825003
What happens to the sword after 108 years? that is does hinata return the sword to us at that point? or does she do what she want with it? or what?

Also, how the heck did amaterasu lose the sword in the first place if she is so powerful?
>>
>>33825089

The SCP Foundation would never accept it anyway. Seriously, what man-made "containment procedure" could possibly work when a full fledged God comes politely asking for his stuff?
>>
>>33825130
She GAVE it to her grandkid as a symbol of his right to rule as Japan's first Emperor. Hence, the Imperial line uses the Treasures as both a symbol of heritage and Japanese spirituality.

What makes you think it wasn't in the shrine where it was supposed to be before someone stole it?

>>33825130
Good question. Perhaps nothing. Perhaps Hinata just stops making sure the sword doesn't go anywhere near Ryukasa and her family. Hinata doesn't actually have to DO anything to the sword at all - just make sure whoever does have it avoids Ryukusa and Ryukusa's family like the plague.

You didn't restrict how she did what she promised, just added in the clause she couldn't do anything to you and your family to get the job done.

Hinata is working under some constraints. the evidence is there.
>>
>>33825130
>>33825167
And an interesting point later in time is the Taira Clan of the Heian Era stealing the Treasures after they were ousted from power and throwing Kusanagi overboard after a losing battle as one anon mentioned in this thread.
>>
>>33824838
>She'd kill the wielder and put the sword away
The destruction of the sword was only ever mentioned in the hypothetical where this is not an option and our only choices is the sword or wives. It isn't a realistic scenario. but we handled such grossly implausible "what ifs" and "the question is wrong" situations in quest before

Good to know, this mean that even if we put aside revenge from angry kami for a moment. destroying it will directly harm all our 5 wives (as well as countless innocents)
But how was I supposed to know this? You really should be more forthcoming with setting knowledge that our character would know that we the readers do not.
As far as I knew this was "some magic sword" that "a couple of gods claim its theirs and won't be happy if its gone".

I hope you've enjoyed the Q/A and the thread, and am going to bed. No date for next session up.

>What makes you think it wasn't in the shrine where it was supposed to be before someone stole it?
Well, for one thing its a weapon, I would think it would be wielded instead of sitting in a shrine.
Even if it was just sitting in the shrine, you just said amaterasu is the world itself in all its glory. So, doesn't that make her omnipresent? or at least able to notice when someone is sneaking into her shrine with ill intent and comedown on them?

What I GUESSED was that she bequeathed it susano-oh to slay some specific misbehaving dragon (because my knowledge of her is limited to that in that the okami game about her and susano fighting orochi the 8 headed dragon) and then he just never gave it back (the cad!)
>>
>>33825330
This actually reminds me. when we go demigod we lose pearl (odd, since horobi had a pearl and we are a dragon-demigod)

our ability to impregnate harem is dependent on the pearl. does that mean going demigod is losing said ability?

>The sword is a kami in it's own right, just as everything that is over 100 years old is
EVERYTHING over 100 years old is a kami?
That can't be right
I mean, kiku and er yin are both over 100 years old.
Also, there are a fuckton of nameless artifacts in museums and in the ground that are over 100 years old.
Nameless rocks, trees, etc... fuckton of stuff all over the world is over 100 years old

Trying to divulge that amount of information in quest is nearly impossible. And Ryukusa quite clearly does not know everything. She sometimes (often) IC has no idea what her own powers are. IC she would never consider destroying an artifact - even a foreign artifact. It's just not done in Japanese culture. All artifacts are kami by definition in Shinto. It's the basis of the entire religion. It's a huge amount of meta-knowledge that only becomes relevant IC on occasion.

If people started considering destroying the sword IC I would have actually addressed the issue then. It's never come up as an option because Ryuksa would never do so.

Also, the sword itself might object a little more strenuously than just hating her for touching it at that point. It did let her know it was self away and actively inimical to her.
>>
>>33825392
Okay, here's a brief summary then.

Susano'o threw a massive series of tantrums that caused Amaterasu to hide away and therefore stop the sun from rising. The other Kami then lured her back out and kicked Susano'o out of the Heavens until he earned Amaterasu's forgiveness.

Eventually, one of the deeds that Susano'o had done was slay Orochi and find Kusanagi in one of his tails. He then gifted the sword to Amaterasu as part of his penance and thereby earned his way back into Heavens along with his other deeds.

Eventually, the sword was then passed down to Amaterasu's grandson and he used it as part of the symbolism for his bloodline's right to rule Japan. Eventually, a clan called the Taira came to power in the Heian Era and were ousted from the capitol before they ultimately threw Kusanagi into the sea when they lost their final battle.

The sword that exists today in our world is perhaps a fake or the real thing. Given the existence of the supernatural in this world as a given factor though, it's well and possible that someone dove down to retrieve the sword or Ammy just casually retrieved it for the current Emperor of Japan at that time.

Therefore, it certainly could have been enshrined before the issue of Kushinada acquiring it that could have well been theft.
>>
>>33825424
It's not dependent upon the pearl. touching pearls with Kiki just guarantees a fire dragonette being born.
>>
>>33825491
Objects over 100 years old develop a kami according to Shinto. That's why you treat everyday objects with respect and why there's a difference between lesser kami and great kami. Spirit-children are half kami by nature.

According to the barrier combat most of the spirit world is inaccessible to mortals so we don't actually interact with most kami.
>>
>>33825548
>Ryukusa quite clearly does not know everything
I am not asking for stuff she doesn't know, you said yourself
>IC she would never consider destroying an artifact - even a foreign artifact. It's just not done in Japanese culture. All artifacts are kami by definition in Shinto.
See, how exactly are we supposed to know that? this is an english speaking forum, so very few of us are japanese or intimately familiar with their religion (no, anime knowledge does not count as actual familiarity)
And even for those who are familiar, this tells nothing about the setting.
Is the setting strictly shinto?
Did you heavily modify shinto to create it?
Does faith = power in general? (in which case yahwe has 4 billion followers combined, counting all the christians, muslims, jews, and others in the world)

This is in character knowledge that we have absolutely no clue about
>>
