Previously, on Avatar Quest......

After several weeks of helping to run the settlement in your father's absence, you were informed that the Queen wished to meet you, and after saying goodbye to those you wished to say goodbye to, you departed. After being escorted to the capital, you met the Queen in her throne room. She was very happy to see you, and she acted very pleasantly towards you. After answering a few questions, you demonstrated your Earthbending for her against one of her guards. The two of you spoke for a while longer before she showed you to your room. Falling asleep, you were confronted by the previous Avatar, who seemed rather unimpressed with you. The two of you spoke for a time, trading quite a few insults and accomplishing very little. You woke up and visited the Queen, who revealed that she knew you were the Avatar. The two of you briefly discussed the implications of that, during which time you admitted you knew nothing about leadership or being the Avatar. The Queen introduced you to one of her advisors, Lathic, the son of Avatar Gonyo. The Queen left the two of you alone, and you discussed your distrust of the Queen with Lathic. He told you the history of Queen Alara and Ren, and gave his account of the Queen's side of things. You decided that you should try to help Alara and Ren work things out, but that you should first see the city for yourself.
>>
>Welcome to Avatar Quest. Here are the rules.

Decisions are made by vote. Each vote has a ten minute interval, after which, the option that receives the most votes it the one that is chosen.

There are no write-ins unless explicitly stated

Some options require rolls. In that event, rolls will be out of 100. Whether rolls succeed or fail is decided by the first three rolls. If one passes, then you succeed regardless of the other two. Rolls will really only occur during training, or when trying something new.
All decisions are final. If you regret voting for something, too bad. Think carefully before you make decisions.

Try to keep waifu bullshit to a minimum.

"I want to get both Ren and the Queen's side of things, then try to get them talking and working things out," you tell Lathic.

"It's worth a try," he says.

"I also think I should see the city and its people," you tell him. "Being here is little better than a gilded cage, and makes her policies little more than words on paper."

He nods. "I understand. Try speaking with the Queen, see if you can convince her to let you roam the city. If not, come tell me and I will try speaking on your behalf. Or, come speak to me if you ever need advice or simply want to talk. I can usually be found here."

With that, he takes deep, calming breaths, returning to meditating.

With Lathic returned to his meditation, and a basic plan in mind, you choose to pay the Queen a visit.

Leaving Lathic in peace and passing the training area, you make your way around the palace and go inside, climbing the stairs until you reach the third floor. When you reach the door and knock, the Queen immediately calls for you to enter.

You find her sitting in her throne, looking somewhat surprised to see you, but not displeased.

"Hello again, Shin," she greets. "I hope things went well with Lathic. But, I wasn't expecting the two of you to finish speaking so soon. Is everything alright?"

"I want to see the city," you say, changing the subject to your reason for coming here.

She leans back in her throne and nods. "Of course, now that we've actually discussed this Avatar business, you are free to come and go as you wish. I only ask that if you choose to leave the city itself, you speak to me first. So, what is it that you wish to see in the city?"

She rises from her throne and walks over to you. "That is a wise course of action, but before you depart, there is one matter left to address."

Behind you, the doors open, and both Kana and Narlonok enter the room, eyes trained on you. The doors slam shut behind them as they approach.

You reach out and take the pouch from her, quickly opening it and looking inside. A few gold pieces fill the pouch, which you quickly close, looking at the Queen.

"I'm not sure if you were aware, but there was a rather large bounty for Ming the Bandit King," she informs you. "The reward would have been larger had you managed to bring him to me alive, but you still earned fifty gold pieces for killing him. I figured that fifty gold pieces is a bit much to be carrying around at once, so I put five of them in that pouch, and had the rest put in a small chest in your room. It's all yours to use as you see fit. Congratulations, and thank you for bringing Ming to justice."

She turns her attention to the guards. "I want a dozen more soldiers sent to that settlement at once."

Recently, however, it has come to my attention that a group has emerged, advocating cooperation between benders and non-benders for the good of the Kingdom. "My Queen, do you happen o have any weapons I may borrow?" you ask. "I'm a bit reluctant to use my bending in the city."

She looks amused by this request. "Shin, you and your family are famous in this city for your Earthbending, so long as you don't use any of the other elements, you should be fine. But, I'm sure I can get a weapon for you."

It takes a few minutes, but the Queen has a dagger delivered by one of her guards, which she then gives to you. It's rather simple looking, but the blade is nice and sharp, which is really all you need.

"Fifty silver pieces"

"Fifty? You only charged the last man twenty-five!"

"He's a bender, Queen's law. So either show me some bending, or pay me my fifty silver"

You hear another pair nearby speaking about the meeting tonight.

"..be there?"

"No, he's still away with his family, I heard a few of his top people are going to handle the meeting tonight."

"I wonder if they can hold everyone's attention as well as he can"

"We'll find out"

My thoughts are the following; our family's rather well-known for bending, yea? So, if we show up to the meeting as is, they'll know who we are and be more... hostile, ya know? More closed. If we go shopping and get a small disguise, maybe new clothes and a nice hat, they won't know a thing and our mission will be more successful.

doubtful
it would make much more sense to just give benders discounts
although 50% is huge, way more than expected
>>
Let's pay for him!
>>
If the Queen was wise and did not want to appear unfair to nonbenders she should of subsidized the Benders with military conscription with high wages, not through price fixing at the markets.
>>
>>33854775
It's basically an enormous tax for just not being a bender.
>>
>>33854775
Yeah in retrospect that is more obvious, also is anyone slightly unsettled by the fact we have yet to see a single non-bender adviser in court?
>>
>>33854735
>>33854767
You follow the pair, trying to be as quiet about it as possible, and listen in on their conversation.

"Well, even without him here, we've got almost a dozen new members in the past week," one of them, a short, skinny man with a bald head points out to the other, a young woman with long brown hair.

"Yes, he should be pleased," the woman concedes as the two round a corner.

"You know, I can never seem to remember his name," the man comments.

"Are you serious?" the woman asks.

"Come on, help me out here..." the man whines, his voice becoming quieter

>B: Clothing Shop.
>My thoughts are the following; our family's rather well-known for bending, yea? So, if we show up to the meeting as is, they'll know who we are and be more... hostile, ya know? More closed. We've been wearing the same set of clothing for like, a week now. Let's get changed.

I wonder what the ratio actually is? That's never been clear. The writers have stated that the Fire Nation had a relatively low proportion of benders to non-benders, and that the Air Nomads had a near 100% bending population, but the average relative proportion has never been said as far as I can remember.
>>
>>33855211
It was stated by that one dude that benders seemed to be in danger of dying out, so I'd imagine the ratio is rather low.
>>

You stop following the pair, and make your way to the clothing shop.

You find it occupied by a few other shoppers, and the shops owner, who stands behind a counter and watches as the people browse. You take the time to look through his selection of clothing; simple shirts and pants, hooded robes, dresses, suits and expensive looking clothes, and shoes.

The problem with the chew toy is size. It's head is bigger than our entire body, we'd need to give it a literal stuffed bear (well, platypus-bear) to chew on for it to get any enjoyment out of it.

You say nothing as you fish a gold piece from your coin pouch and set it on the table. The shopkeeper takes it and gives you ninety silver in a large pouch as change.

As you take it, along with your clothes, and make your way to the exit, you turn back to the shopkeeper.

"By the way," you say, "I'm a bender."

You demonstrate this by creating a pillar of Earth right outside the shop, lowering it as you exit. You then decide what to do next.

not in this time period. Assuming Avatar somewhat mimics real history when it comes to social norms in the same way it does technology (which it has in the shows), having multiple wives would be accepted and even encouraged so long as the husband could support them all. You decide to take a look at the daggers, for some reason wanting to get Galda a set as a gift. Why you're getting a gift for someone who nearly murdered you and regularly assaults your brother, you're not quite sure. Maybe it's a peace offering, maybe a gesture of friendship, or maybe you just owe her a new dagger.

You spot a set of twin daggers with golden hilts, priced at four gold pieces.

You spot another twin set with decorated hilts, each dagger having twin dragons coiling around the hilts with their faces touching each edge at the bottom of the blade. The set costs two gold.

You spot a single dagger with the same design priced at one gold.

You also spot many plain daggers and sets for much lower prices.

I just don't really see Shin using a bladed weapon. If Shin is going to use a weapon other than his bending, it makes sense for it to be a weapon that can be variable (to a degree) in its lethality. Theres not a massive amount you can do to make bladed weapons less lethal.
