You are the PRODUCER, a former soldier hired to manage a group of teenage girls on their rise to stardom, assuming they don't get killed in the process!

You're currently at the Idol Expo, where you've just secured a possible sponsorship deal with Toha Heavy Industries. However, no sooner have you done that when you're approached by a mysterious Umbrella scientist who was asking questions about Cole.

"...excuse me?" You blink.

"That girl..." The scientist frowns and puts a hand to her chin, as if trying to recall a distant memory. "I could swear I've seen her somewhere before...."

You know, you've never actually known much about Cole's past, mostly because she didn't really know herself, other than scraping by in the Tombs. Maybe this was the chance to find out.

Then again, maybe somethings were better left unknown. Maybe this scientist had ulterior motives.

"Oh, how rude of me!" The scientist's expression lightens and shakes your hand. "My name is Dr. Vahlen, Chief Researcher for the Umbrella Corporation."

"The Producer for Clover Entertainment." You return the courtesy.

"Now, back to business..." Vahlen's eyes fall on Cole once again. "That girl... who exactly is she?"

BUT ONLY the condensed version. If she want to have more access to her, they need to sponsor us.
Also ask, Just why is she here in the first place?
>>
I don’t think we can trust them at the moment, they could say anything about her because we don’t have info (i.e. She was ours to begin with, we just want to realize her true potential, etc.). For all we know, Cole’s made by a rival company and Umbrella wants to reverse engineer an army of inferior clones. If we want to know about her it has to come from her own mouth, not from someone else. And besides, she experienced something so horrible that she was afraid of losing her powers for a second. I’m not sure if we should hand her over to someone we barely know.

Ah, I was wondering when you'd come by with bad ideas.

Okay, so, first off last thread suggested that there is some bad things going on with Umbrella concerning the thirty year old idol and the message she gave us that we haven't read yet. Second, she's here because Umbrella Corp is here. Third, Cole was abandoned in the roughest part of town with shady biological augments: I doubt she got lost on a field trip.

So, yeah, I'm going to be VERY cagey about what information we give about our best daughteru.
>>
>>33853929
Agreed, but she did ask nicely though.

"Who exactly is she?"

"She's Cole, an Idol of Clover Entertainment."

That's it nothing else.
>>
>>33853929
I'm been thinking how to best defend Cole against umbrella. We should name drop handsome jack to deterrent them.

And here is the hater. Look, if we start ACTING cagey around the Umbrella rep, they are likely going to start to think that their Idol as successfully passed intelligence off to us. Sure we're not going to accept their offer but we shouldn't clam up right off the bat.
>>
>>33854032
Dear god, that's right. Hansome Jack would be a great foil against Umbrella wouldn't it?

And handsome jack cares more for money than anything else. If umbrella offers a business deal to drop sponsorship of us, they just might take it.

"Well, that would be Cole, one of our top performing idols." You say. Technically, you WERE answering her question, even if you were excise some very important bits. "She's very pretty, but also has a very prickly and confrontational personality, which is actually most her charm. HIGHLY popular with teenage delinquents."

"I see." Vahlen nods, clearly disappointed she didn't get the answers she wanted, but she knew she couldn't really press for more without giving away her intentions. "She looks to be a fine girl."

You look over at where Cole currently was, ogling a chocolate fountain. Oh, this was going to be good. You surreptitiously tune into her audio feed.

"Holy hit, Roch, WHAT DIDN'T YOU TELL ME THESE THINGS EXISTED?!"

"What things...?" Rochelle blinked.

"It's a fountain! BUT WITH CHOCOLATE INSTEAD OF WATER!"

"It's not really that amazing-"

"IT TOTALLY FUCKING IS!" Cole grabs Rochelle's shoulder and shakes her around to hammer home her point. "Why don't we have one of these at the office? I'm totally going to take this home!"

"That would be stealing..." Rin joined in, obviously amused by Cole's amazement.

"Hey, I stole shit all the time in the Tombs and nobody complained." Cole shrugged.

"That's because the concept of 'laws' don't even exist in the Tombs!" Rochelle hissed. "How are you even going to take it without all these guards noticing?"

"Eh, I'll wing it."

"You know, Cole is rather good at that." Rin nods.

"You're not helping!" Rochelle sighs.

"Guys, I'm gonna lick it." Cole says, leaning closer to the fountain.

"Cole, you're supposed to get one of those snacks over there and stick in the fountain." Rochelle grabbed Cole's shoulder.

"You're not gonna stop me!" Cole slaps Rochelle's hand away.

"It's dangerous! You know how hot melted chocolate is?"

"Not to mention unsanitary." Rin adds in.

"Thank you, Rin." Rochelle nods. "See? Even she agrees with me-"

"AUGH!"

"I FUCKING WARNED YOU, COLE!"

"She's certainly very lively." Vahlen chuckles.

"That she is." You nod and turn back to her. "Actually, Dr. Vahlen, what exactly do you do at Umbrella?"

"Ah, well, I oversee most of Umbrella's research projects." Vahlen says, her inner scientist starting to show. "All of the usual things, like new pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, the latest cosmetic products, and most recently, genemodding."

Yes, it's just our excuse.
And who know's, if there's something nice coming down the pipe, maybe we'll consider buying it, or if one of our idols wants one.
>>
>>33854362
>>33854373
I think she might be disappointed at the fact it doesn't continuously make chocolate. I think that is what she's thinking, a never ending chocolate supply.

But seriously I hope no jealous performance idol challenges her to a sing off when she has a burnt tongue
>>
>>33854515
I can see that, but equipping gene mods from umbrella strikes me as a bad idea. We really don't want our Idols or ourselves to be turned into zombies or some sort of abomination when exposed to a key chemical or virus that umbrella can use against us or blackmail us with.
>>
>>33854268
"Really?" You nod. "You know, I've been a bit curious about genemodding, myself. How exactly is it different from augmetics?"

You nod over to the the Cyberdyne delegation, who are showing off one of their latest combat cyborgs touched up to look like an idol.

"Well," Vahlen goes into full scientist mode, "genemods have an array of advantages over augmetics. First of all, they are far less invasive, and work WITH the body instead of completely replacing it. In the long run, genemods will actually cost less than augmetics, because your body does all of the maintenance itself, while augmetics require regular maintenance and inspection by trained professionals. Also, ease of use. Genemods only require an injection or a series of injections in order to take effect."

"I see." You nod. "But aren't the only genemods around purely cosmetic?"

"Well, yes. But we DO have 'performance boosting' genemods in the works." Vahlen says proudly. "Imagine if humans had hyper efficient immune systems that made them immune all forms of disease, or had accelerated healing that could close wounds instantly, or even have superhuman strength and toughness! The possibilities are endless!"

It could just be that she was the first--a prototype for proper combat genemods that don't revolve around simply boosting existing bodily systems.

To put it in Bioshock terms--she's the guinea pig for Plasmid development, while every gene mod made up to this point has been a Tonic.
>>
>>33854605
"But... there has to be drawback, right?" You ask. "No offense, but as an army veteran, I learned not to take everything at face value. Everything's got weaknesses."

"I suppose there is." Vahlen sighed. "You see, militaries and PMCs all over the world are interested in genemods as well, but there's one critical flaw we've yet to overcome that prevents further investment."

"And that would be?"

"Well, we haven't figured out a way to make genemods permanent." Vahlen shakes her head. "The current genemods on the market and those being researched right now, can only give temporary benefits. Without regular doses, the effects will eventually wear off after about 72 hours or so."

"Or, you DO have a permanent solution, but you're just keeping it secret so you can nickel and dime everybody." You point out.

"Producer, I'm a scientist, not a businessman. I am above that sort of thing!" Vahlen huffs. "If only-"

She then pauses. You can tell she just caught herself about to say something she shouldn't have.

"Look, Vahlen." You sigh. "I just want to make sure I'm not getting cheated if decide to get a genemod, you know? I mean, I know Cyberdyne is on the up and up when they give me an augmetic."

You flex your augmetic arms to highlight your point.

"Lifetime warranty on these things and they haven't failed me once so far. How can I trust genemods if I suspect you're keeping the answer buried?"

Vahlen seems taken aback by your rationale and sighs, defeated.

"Many years ago, my father was the original project head for our genemod program." Vahlen explains. "He was an absolute genius in the field. For years, Umbrella and other companies were trying to make genemods work. The problem was finding a suitable delivery system. Nanomachines were just too expensive and complicated, and it looked like the project would be scrapped."

"But your father found a way." You say.

"Yes." Vahlen nodded. "My father was a virologist and was previously head of our wildly successful in Virology department. He realized that we already had naturally existing vectors to carry and deliver strands of DNA. Viruses!"

"....what?" You frown.

"Oh, don't worry, the majority are absolutely harmless." Vahlen chuckles. "Anyways, my father synthesized a virus that could inject a genemod sequence directly into the target's cells."

"That still doesn't explain why genemods are only temporary." You frown.

"I'm getting there." Vahlen assures you. "My father's original virus, the H-Virus, was a masterpiece. Whatever changes it introduced were completely permanent. We were on the edge of revolutionizing the field!"

"And feel a big 'but' coming..."

"But... there was an accident." Vahlen sighed. "There was an explosion in his lab. We lost everything. The data, the research samples, my father..."

"I'm sorry."

"It's in the past." Vahlen shakes her head. "Anyways, we lost everything. The current virus we have, the I-Virus, is just a pale imitation of the H-Virus. The genemods it delivers can't permanently bond to the subject's DNA. It'll eventually be 'repaired' by the body and expelled, which necessitates constant dosage."

"I see." You nod.

>>33856766
>>There's no chance of recreating the H-Virus?

Why do I have a feeling Cole was somehow involved with that explosion?

Also--I'm assuming it is entirely possible that a whole blood sample from Cole could allow Vahlen to isolate the H-Virus in Cole's blood. If we can assure Umbrella's sponsorship for something so small as a blood draw, we should take it.
>>
>>33856766

"So there was absolutely nothing left?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Everything." Vahlen nodded. "Even the backup servers weren't spared. But, we did find one odd thing..."

"Which is?"

"Well, when we investigated the lab, we found evidence of the existence of a research sample that was not officially logged in our documents." Vahlen explains. "Nobody seemed to know what it was, and the only person who would was dead. However, that's the extent of what I know. All of the investigation files for that incident are sealed."

"I see." You nod. "So why the interest in Cole?"

"No reason. I was just curious." Vahlen gives you a bitter smile. "She looks almost exactly like me when I was her age."

"Huh, what a coincidence." You mutter. You don't trust yourself to say anything else. You glance over at Cole, who was completely murdering a poor, defenseless red velvet cake. There certainly was a bit of resemblance between her and Vahlen. They definitely shared the same dirty blonde/auburn hair color. You honestly didn't notice until Vahlen had pointed it out to you.

"Anyways, I've taken up enough of your time." Vahlen takes a step back. "It was nice meeting you, Producer."

Once again, I should mention this. If Cole is Vahlen's clone, that would make her Vahlen's daughter, not her sister. </autism>

I can see the logic there, but my autism says that since Vahlen's father essentially kept (raised?) her that would make her a sister.

"Hey Hillman, it looks like it's your birthday today." You grin as you approach your fellow producer. "Something good happen?"

"Yep!" Hillman's head bobs. "I managed to secure a sponsorship with CMC!"

"Really?" You whistle. "What'd you have to do to get that?"

"Funnily enough, it turns out that Mr. Duke is a huge fan of ours." Hillman laughs. "Guess really does have a soft spot for magical girls."

"No shit? What kind of perks is he giving you?"

"Oh, well, he's going to be fitting my girls with a new line of armor they're planning on. Intended to be very sleek and lightweight, or so I hear."

"Hey, any chance you could hook me up with some of that stuff?" You nudge him.

"I'll see what I can do." Hillman grins.

Suddenly you hear a loud shriek, causing you and many other people to snap their heads around to see where it came from. Unfortunately, you see that you idols are in some sort of confrontation with another trio of idols.

Goddamnit.

You and Jenner quickly dash over, where you see an idol with long, blonde hair done in a series of curls glaring at Cole. You wonder why when you notice chunks of red velvet cake stuck in her hair. The blonde idol was flanked by two other idols, no doubt her bodyguards.

"Cole, did you-"

"She was asking for it!" Cole pouted. "She called me a peasant!"

"Cole, I think she calls EVERYBODY peasants." Rochelle sighed.

"Somebody explain what happened here already!" You sigh.

"THAT WHORE ATTACKED ME, THAT'S WHAT!" The blonde idol shrieked. "I WANT HER HEAD ON A PLATTER!"

"WHO YOU CALLIN' A WHORE!?!" Cole shouts back.

"I'm sorry, sir." Rochelle sighed. "It happened so fast. We were just talking up with some other idols and that bitch just pushed her way through us and made Cole drop her food."

"What kind of food?"

"Her ice cream."

Oh man, now that was a SERIOUS crime where Cole was concerned.

"What's going on here?" An older man strides up.

"THAT MEAN PEASANT ATTACKED ME!" The blonde idol wails as she points to her ruined hair.

"Are you their Producer?" The man turns to you.

"I am. You nod. Producer, Clover Entertainment."

"Baske Ohm, Castle Entertainment." The other producer frowns. "Your idol should apologize to Princess."

"Wait is that her actual name?" You blink.

"Yes." Ohm nods. "Is there a problem with that?"

It was weird. Then again, Hillman had all sorts of weird stage names for his girls, so you guess it wasn't that uncommon.

Yeah, one good way to piss off Cole was to throw insults at her. She was particularly defensive about her less privileged background.

"No." You shake your head.

"Good. Then have your idol apologize." Ohm says again.

You glance at Cole, who locked in a glaring contest to the death with Princess. Yeah... you weren't sure your prospects on convincing her to apologize were very good. Plus, technically it was Princess at fault, anyways...

You decide to at least try to be diplomatic about this. You glance at Hillman, who just shrugs noncommittally, while Jenner just adopts the "wait and see" stance. Such a big help, those two were.

"Okay, how about this." You sigh. "From what I understand, both of you girls are in the wrong, so if you both apologize to each other, then we can-"

"NO! NONONONONONO!" Princess stamps her foot down repeatedly with each syllable. Was this really a grown girl? "I refuse to have this girl be treated as... as... AN EQUAL TO ME!"

Man, what a bitch, you think. Of course you don't say that out loud.

"Well fuck you too, blondie!" Cole retorts.

You glance at Ohm to see if he would put his idol under control, but he just looks away. That tells you volumes about who gave the orders around here.

"Fine! If you won't apologize of your own will, then I will MAKE you!" Princess stamps her foot down again. "I DEMAND A DUEL!"

At that moment, the entire hall goes quiet, and all eyes turn to the current confrontation.

"This isn't good." Jenner whispers.

"Yeah, I don't really want to get in a fight." You sigh.

"You may not have a choice. Backing out could make us look weak." Jenner glances at the other producers and idols, and even the Tribunal, watching with great interest.

"What kind of duel are we talking about here?" You ask.

"I will be the judge of that!" A masked, red suited man slides his way between you and Ohm. "As an involved third party, I, the Carnival Master, shall mediate this duel!"

"...what?" You blink.

"Oh, don't be like that, Producer!" Carnival Master chuckles. "Every fight needs rules, I'm just here to enforce them!"

You glance back to the Tribunal for confirmation, and they nod in unison.

"Okay... so what are we doing, then?" You ask.

"You have two choices!" Carnival Master waggles two of his fingers in the air. "Either you have your performance idols face off in a singing competition, or you have designated combat idols battle each other! Nothing fancy, just a 1v1 until one side can't stand any longer!"

"No way to back out of this, huh?" You sigh.

>>
>>33858663
Tough choice.

If we choose battle, most likely Princess might choose a champion because the whole "Uhh Nobility and Peasants, and stuff". And we might run the risk of exposing Cole's powers. Wwe could have Rochelle sub in, but then again Cole wouldn't like that. She would want to fight herself. Unless we can somehow confince them to do a 2 on 2. Like have Rochelle chime in how "Insulted she was too" or something and issue a duel herself as well.

Then there is a Performance. We and everybody knows that Cole is not a Performance Idol, she is a combat one. She will be the underdog and the not expected to win. So losing wouldn't be surprising, and we wouldn't really 'lose' anything. Compared to if Princess lost, she would lose face and rep. Plus Cole could benefit with some more exposure in Performing. And if she wins shows that she can kick but and do it while performing. Again we could have Rin jump in too, if she issues a duel. Similar to the whole Rochelle fighting Cole's battle. But I don't know...

My final say.
>Performance
I wanna hear her sing and see her dance.
>>
>>33858663
"We'll go with a performance battle." You say.

"Hmmmm, I'm slightly disappointed at that, but nevertheless!" The Carnival Master snaps his fingers and a small stage lights up at the end of the hall in front of the massive window gazing out into space.
"Behold, your stage!"

Princess quickly and confidently strides up to it, while your three idols all look at you.

"I so want to beat this bitch." Cole scowls.

I'm sure after she's beaten, Princess wouldn't have enough pride to not apologize to you. Trust me, it'll be amazing to watch."

>You have 2 remaining.

You're not quite sure what it was. Maybe Rin was just in the zone, or maybe it was the way the Moon just happened to place itself directly behind her as she sung. However, what you didn't doubt was that Rin's song seemed to make an impression among all those gathered.

Finally, after the final line is uttered, Rin curtsies and steps off the stage without missing a beat. Everything is silent for a few more seconds until one of the Tribunal, of all people, starts to applaud. And the rest of the guests begin to applaud as well.

"Did I do good?" Rin asked.

"Yeah, I think you did good." You grin.

Across the room, you could see Princess' mortified expression as she realized she lost. Heh, that was pretty funny.

But we get cole to apologise as well.

I really doubt having Cole apologizing is going to change how much animosity there's going to be here. Princess is going to be on a blood hunt after this party no matter what.

"Cole," You wave your idol over. "We're going in."

"Yesssss!!" Cole grins.

The two of you walk over to where Princess is, now in absolute tears over losing and stuffing chocolate cake into mouth.

"Wow, and people say I issues with food." Cole frowns.

"Quiet." You sigh. "First, you say you're sorry."

"What?" Cole looks at you with a look of betrayal.

"It's the polite thing to do." You say. "The faster you do, the sooner we can get it behind us."

"Ugh, fine." Cole rolls her eyes. "Look, I'm sorry for getting cake in your hair, Princess."

Princess says something, but you can't really make out what it is because her mouth is still full of cake. But... you assume she apologized as well. Personally, you feel a bit bad for kicking a girl when she's down like this.

"Damn... you know, I figured I'd feel a whole lot better after we -I mean- Rin showed that bitch who's boss." Cole sighs. "But, I dunno, I guess I sorta felt sorry for her, actually."

"Awww, what's this? Did my little Cole's heart grow three sizes today?" You coo.

"Sh-shut up!" Cole punches you in the shoulder. Not hard, but enough that would feel it.

"Anyways, Producer, it looks like the party is starting to wind down." Jenner says. Indeed, you can see guests starting to filter out of the room slowly but steadily.

"Really? What happened to that contest at the end?"

"I guess they figured with Rin stealing the show like that, there was no point." Jenner shrugged.

"That's nice." You nod. "So should we be going, now?"

"Actually..." Jenner bites her lip. "There is one thing."

"What?" You ask.

"Well, I talked with Boss before we came here, and he seemed to think that... um... the both of us were overdue for a vacation."

"Does he?"

"Y-yes." Jenner nods and hands you a slip of paper. It's a certificate for one night at the hotel here, in one of the penthouse suites.

Jesus, Boss, where do you get this stuff?

"So, I was wondering if you were going to take up Boss's offer. Erm, it seem like a shame not to." Jenner says a bit awkwardly.

"What about the girls?" You nod to Rin, Rochelle and Cole.

"Stig can meet them at the bottom of the elevator and take them back." Jenner shrugged. "Unless, you know, you feel like bringing them with us, which is totally your call..."

>Sure, I think the two of us need a day off.
>Sure, we and girls could use a little break.

2) Improving Co-worker Relations, Among Other Things (Producer/Jenner Side)
