I sure hope the LD/50 isn't two threads or we're screwed. Also: this is getting to be a regular thing, haha. maybe I should look into a second day and split the run up a bit? hahaha oh well.

Old thread:

[x] Well, since you guys are offering, we'll take it.

Momentarily, your curiosity almost gets the better of you- and you're pretty sure these guys would tell you what Brigitte had done to get this kind of respect out of them. You can't help but think it's things like this that put paid to her 'simple bayou witch' act- though you're willing to let that slide if she'll keep cooking.

“Well, since you guys are offering, we'll take it.” You say, nodding. The man smiles.

“Excellent!” He says. “Now we will not have to re-arrange protective details!”

“Pro-” you start, but his laughter cuts you off.

“I am joking, my friend. We don't have any very close protective details for you. No need to coddle you like some head of state or soft politician, eh?” He laughs. “Besides, one traveling with someone like the vision of beauty sitting next to you is surely taken care of. Does she still answer to the White rose of Bagram?”

Katya's eyes narrow. “She died, years ago. I am merely Katya now.”

The man nods, seemingly unaffected. “A shame. But the name fits you better, yes? No need for flowery titles when something of simple beauty can tell us so much more.”

“Now I know you will be required to pay your respects to the Witches of Paris.” He says. “I pity you, their building is huge and cold, and too many of them cut their hair too short and wear too much perfume. I suggest a coat. A gasmask might be out of line.” He laughs again. “However, if you wish, we can stop at their... building, first, then go to the hotel. It makes no difference to us.”

[] Let's stop by there first, get the formalities out of the way.
[] We'd like to see the hotel first, if it's all the same to you guys.

[x] Let's stop by there first, get the formalities out of the way.

You look at Katya, who shrugs, clearly giving the choice to you. You sigh- you just got out of a nest of witches, you're not particularly anxious to get back into one. Still, Ice made it sound like it'd be quick and painless, and odds are if it wasn't going to be, Katya would have asked to do it tomorrow.

“Let's stop by there first,” You say, reaching for your bag and pulling out your letter of introduction. “Might as well get it out of the way.”

Your French escort nods. “Oui, I'm sure there are many more enjoyable things to be doing.” he nudges the driver, and gives some fast directions. “Of course, you will be on your own inside. While we trust the witches, they are part of the same nation, after all, we are not welcome inside except on emergencies.” He shrugs with a smile. “Women, non?”

You let the joke fall flat- Katya is sitting right next to you, after all.

The Parisian Witch holding makes St. John's lodge back in London seem positively tiny. Occupying the northern quarter of the ile de la cite, it's a modern building, the front appearing to be an almost seamless mirrored glass wall. It's shorter than you'd have expected, just a few stories, three or four, but you've noticed the lack of skyscrapers in the city proper already- they look to be out a ways, still. Off to the south on the island, you can see the pointed spires of the notre dame- you make a mental note to visit it.

Paper Tiger II! The granddaddy of pranker pilots!
>>
Stepping out of the car, your guide gets out as well, stretching his back briefly. “We will wait here, my friend. My superiors have assured me I have nothing better to do today than assist you.”

You nod your thanks and head inside- the glass doors up front sliding open to reveal a large lobby, with the other floors opening at the front to look down on the room. A badly damaged statue sits in the center of the lobby, occupying a pedestal in the center of a fountain. It seems badly out of place- it's made of marble and looks just this side of completely destroyed.

The witches at the desk look up when you enter, a brief frown crossing their faces as they register you. A muted pop signals Katya summoning her familiar- the witches frowns fade, but their looks of curiosity remain.

“Oui?” One asks, as you walk up to the desk.

[x] Let Katya handle it.

You stand there for a moment before Katya picks up on it. “I am Katya Litvyak, Leningrad academy and of the United States Navy coven. This is Frank Bishop, guardian of witches. We are here to pay our respects to the coven of Paris.”

“Ah! English!” the witch on the right squeaks, blinking. “You're here to pay respects?”

Katya nods. “Yes. We are on leave here, and have letters of introduction if they are necessary.”

The young witch nods, and says something to her partner. “This way, please.”

She doesn't ask any questions about you, which kind of surprises you, to be honest- you're used to getting strange stares when you go anywhere involving witches.

She leads you upstairs and towards the back of the building- you don't get much time to look around, before she stops in front of a door and knocks politely. A muffled response makes it's way through the door, and she opens it, revealing a classroom.

About a dozen desks line the floor, while an older witch stands in the front, giving a lecture. The students look to be about Jessica's age, maybe younger, and they all look at Katya, then you, with curiosity painted on their faces.

The teacher turns to look at the two of you, then asks your guide some questions in French, then smiles. “Ah, visitors. One moment.” She turns, saying something to the class in French again, then walking out and closing the door behind her. “Jenette tells me you are here to pay respects?”

Katya nods. “Yes, Matron. I am Lieutenant Katya Litvyak. I am a night witch, schooled in in the Leningrad academy and in sisterhood to the United States coven.” She hands over her letter of introduction.

“Litvyak?” The matron asks, somewhat confused. “and you studied in Leningrad, but you now claim sisterhood with the United states navy coven?”

“Yes Matron.” Katya says.

“And who is this?”

Katya turns to you. “This is Commander Frank Bishop, United states navy, appointed guardian of witches by the Matron London.”

“Guardian of witches?” The matron echos, her confusion sounding worse. “Was this published?”

Katya nods. “Yes, matron. It was published from St. John's Lodge and is recognized by England, Italy, America, Russia, and Germany.” She looks at you and you hand over your letter of introduction, hoping Ice said the same things in it that Katya just told the Matron.

“Then we will recognize it as well. Welcome to Paris, lieutenant Litvak, commander Bishop.” She says, then looks over at you. “You wouldn't happen to be the same Commander Bishop that's being hailed as the Eagle over Berlin?”

[x] One and the same, ma'am.

You nod. “One and the same, ma'am. I just...” you pause. “I don't like to broadcast it.”

She nods, smiling and tanking one of your hands in both of hers. “I understand, but I must thank you. My grandson was there, he says if not for you, they would not have lived. You did a great thing, Commander.”

She lets go and takes a step back. “On behalf of the coven of witches of Paris, I welcome you to our city. Should either of you need for anything while you are here, do not hesitate to call upon us.”

She smiles again. “Now I must go. Teaching the young ones takes time, non? Perhaps you could come by some time and talk to them, Lieutenant, I am sure they would love to hear it.”

Katya nods- you doubt it'll be on the agenda any time soon, but it'd be rude to directly say no.

The older witch heads back into her classroom, leaving the three of you out in the hall. Your guide shakes her head and laughs, then leads you back to the lobby.

“You have lodging?” She asks. “If not, there are some rooms, but... “ She hesitates, looking at you. “I am not sure about...”

Katya shrugs. “We have shared a room before. But yes, we have lodging.”

The witch nods, hurriedly, returning to her seat. “Oh! Good.”

She hands you a business card- it has the contact number for the front desk here, as well as a few others for businesses around the city either run or owned by witches. You put it in your wallet on the way out, slinging your bag back over your shoulder.

Outside, the French agent still waits with the car, one foot resting against the front left wheel and a cigarette on his lips. Seeing you, he flicks it away. “Ah, good. I am assuming it went well, and we don't need to flee through the city being pursued by angry witches?”

Jokingly. "Get in the car and go!"
>>
“Uh. No, it went pretty well.” You say, and he laughs.

“Pity. We had fun last time. Ended up losing them out in la defense.” He grins again. “Allons! To the hotel!”

The drive is actually fairly short- you make the distance to be no more than a mile, tops, and it's all along the waterfront. The city seems full- you note plenty of tourists, war or no, though you also spot a hell of a lot of soldiers, walking around in pairs and groups.

The French agent notices your gaze and nods. “The city, she is a popular destination for allied troops on leave. Berlin is still too close to the front for many, and London requires a trip on a ferry or aeroplane.” He shrugs. “Personally, I get tired of the city, but I am from it, so perhaps I would be the same way visiting New York, non?” He laughs.

2/3 (Spacing was weird, sorry)
>>
You park outside the hotel, this time he comes in with you, up to the desk, where he introduces you in French to the manager. You can't follow it well enough- you almost wish Rosalie was handy- but you're given a pair of keys.

“Your suite is upstiars.” He says. “We don't plan to post a door guard, but we'll keep an officer down here, just the same. It probably won't be me again until tomorrow, though.” He says. “He will also be your driver, so you can avoid the worst of the traffic. Maybe.” He grins at the last part.

“I will understand if I don't see you again today, my friends. But if you need suggestions for dinner this evening, be sure to give me a call!” He laughs, so that was probably a joke.

The two of you head upstairs- you're kind of surprised a bellhop wasn't anxious to help out, but at the same time, your luggage consists of a pair of backpacks and little else.

The suite is actually closer to an apartment- one richly decorated. A king size bed dominates the bedroom, while the living area is comfortably furnished, and includes a wetbar. You decide to take stock of the alchohol later. The bathroom is covered in marble and chrome, and you're sure it's probably worth more than you make in a year, hazard pay or no.

“This is-” Katya cuts off, wandering around the rooms, dazed. “I have never seen a place like this.“

“Yeah, I know what you mean. So what do we do first?”

Katya shakes her head. “Shh. You are ruining the moment.”

It's good to know, you think, that she can be as strange as any of the rest of them.
>>
>>33929931
"The day is young still! Let's get going!" Once in the car. "It's not the angry witches I need to look out for, It's more of the star truck and love crazed ones I need to worry about more.

And that's it for the night! I think it's safe to say, whatever I say in the OP, the opposite happens. Ya know, say I need to cut it short, we run till 0245 local. Say I want to run long, the puppies catch on fire and I have to fight legit hellhounds with a shotgun and cavalry saber.

ah, fun times.

Anyway! Hope you guys enjoyed- No, I don't know how long we'll be here but it will not be thirty plus threads! haha. probably more like three or four, maybe five weeks total if i take a week off like I've been thinking of doing.

But, we'll be back next week, of course, at the regular time, so till then, gents, cheers!

(Also, yes, Maman Brigitte is really that scary)
