Previously:
San Diego is wiped out by a tidal wave, a young man caught in the deluge as the city is erased by what some might consider the very wrath of god in a world with a sky of endless colors. Snatched from the brunt of the wave, the young man faces an inhuman creature of humanoid form that strikes out his eye to deliver onto him the gift of magic by means of the followers.

Praise be to Susej they say. These followers.

Selfish in his means of survival, a young man rallies with these people for his own safety as the government seeks to keep the truth of the world under wraps, that magic exists and that people like the followers are throwing it into chaos.

Sent on a mission to liberate people captured for conscription based on their awakening to magic, he journeys with others to meet with a woman planted for this very purpose, finding adversity on the way.

Having left a trail all too easy to follow, he's been captured and taken to the very place he'd been looking to gain access, though not exactly on his own terms...

Recently rescued by unknown allies, the young man takes on a new alias “Faust” to help him lay low.

You are Faust, welcome to Over(human)Limit S2

Wanted to ask on a cantrip

>Knight(Pyro/Hydro+Summoning+Materia Firma)[1.25]: Use a known elementary spell compatible with Materia Firma to create a programmable suit of elemental power armour around the caster.

Should it be called Knight, Efreet, or something else? Perhaps a variable name depending on what goes into it?
Knight just makes me think of metals more than anything else.
>>
>>33969352
I like knight personally.
>>
>>33969352
Knight is probably for the best, considering it looks like we'll be able to make armor out of anything eventually. Efreet sounds too strictly fire related.
>>
>>33969352
I picked "Knight" as a name because was a fitting one syllable name that sounds good with the other cantrip/combo names we've made.
>>
>>33969352
Knight is nice and simple. Plus, I think it fits its function, which is always handy when we have a lot of stuff to remember.

If we can, let's ask Lucia a bit more about the chakras that she unlocked. It'll be interesting to know what significance they have in the OH world. Inb4 naruto bullshit.

No need to get all excited about it. Apprentice still isn't that great. Adept is where it gets awesome.

Only thing Apprentice Alchemy can do that would be more nasty than our other Apprentice rank spells transmute the air around someone into rock so they're totally encased. Or do the air above someone to hit em with the old "Rocks fall, everyone dies."
>>
Time with Lucia had been brief, yet it's the short visits that make everything all the more worthwhile. You drift along the flows of ether returning to an area of darkness to manipulate the essence, improving your versatility.

You take this moment to make certain that you grasp the fundamentals of a technique that you began to develop with mind to reduce any damage that you might take. Inspired by your summons, you deigned to create a full body armament that could act as armor for your weak, spongy human flesh.

Manipulating the essence of fire, the ether drifts around you, igniting and encompassing you. The second stage of this is to make it hard, solid. Yet you can already anticipate how much more that'll hurt when you perform this in the mundane. Performing a last minute adjustment, you set it akin to a ward to react to anything incoming and harden as necessary.
It'll drain your reserves of mana with every blow, but an injury could maim or cripple you.
This is a necessary evil.

Doing this to pass the time, you return to the mundane to thank the blue woman for some hydration she found on the ship.
She asks you how you're feeling.

“Better than shit, I guess.” You say with a little smile. “Didn't much eat or drink anything because I didn't trust the food they were giving me.”

“Ah, think they were drugging us down there?” John scratches the stubble of his chin in thought of that.

“At least the food wasn't dirty.” Elena whispers to herself.

The woman folds her arms, a hand just under her mask. “Well.” the harmonics echo her voice like a robotic angel, “You don't have to worry on that anymore. Though when you recover, or we land, we'd like to speak to you.” She turns to the other people that pass lingering gazes over to the woman. Seeming to have a thought, “In fact I'll need to speak with everyone here when we land. I hadn't expected him to release everyone so indiscriminately.”
>>
>>33969808
“Your blazing boyfriend in the cockpit?” You ask with an upraised brow.

The woman's silent on that point. “If you need anything else, just ask. We'll see about dealing with your hex when we land.” She doesn't even comment on that as she walks off, joining the man of the hour in the cockpit.

“She don't much seem too happy with that little comment.” John muses with a bit of a chuckle.

“Touchy subject, I guess.” You say with a shrug. Helia's arms creep around you, holding you as tight as her weakened body can.

Answering her affections with a pat on her head, John laughs again. “Quite the pair, aren't you two?”

Reclining, you close your eyes, your throat wet now with water. A good feeling,”Could say that...” Drifting off back into slumber, you return to your routine mental exercises.

The VTOL lands in the middle of a forest something like a few hours later, you wake up and file out with the rest of the people that've been held up. You count around fifteen other heads beside your own. Some of the people look a bit haggard and all of them want answers, though not nearly as much as you.

The sun's started to peek up through the trees, the little clearing in which the VTOL landed has a little cabin not all that far from here, or so the blue woman says. Neither of them have either introduced themselves or removed their masks.
You've been combing your brain on who they could be. The VTOL went east, so that rules out the followers and the possibility of rendezvous. Lucia also said as much as that they weren't affiliated.
Could they have been sent by her? Or is it some other group? But then why would they single you out?
>>
>>33969829

“I understand that you all must be very tired and hungry from this trip. We have a benefactor that will be arriving soon to give everyone a change of clothes and food, we'll address you all afterward for what will happen next, for now, we will proceed to the waiting area. I would however appreciate that while you all wait, you introduce yourselves to one another.” The blue woman's harmonic voice rings within everyone's ears, bidding them to listen all the more. “Time in solitary is meant to disconnect us from one another as human beings. I ask that you all remind yourselves if you haven't already that you are in the company of friends.” She bows her head to the small assembly and someone starts clapping.

Others clap and you feel obliged to join in. No reason not to anyway.

After the applause ends, the red man approaches you. Immediately you feel his eyes gauge you, observing whatever faults he might find with his sight alone. A shift in his posture and you feel that he might find you wanting.
“Come with me. She and I need to talk to you up at the front.”

Could it hurt him to be a bit polite?

>>

If he indicates that it was us that pissed in his cheerios in some way, I hope that our response is sarcastic and deadpan as fuck.
>>
Staring the bloke down with his extra couple inches on you and condescending posture, you tilt your head over to John. “Hey, watch Helia for me, okay?”

“Sure thing mate, not like we're much goin' anywhere fast are we?”

You give Helia a slight wave goodbye and follow the man to the front of the little procession through the wood. It's kind of a relief actually that he's not at the rear. Might make it seem like they were trying to prevent people from escaping.
“So, any heads up on what you need to talk about?”

He doesn't say anything, he just gives you a glance from the corner of his mask.

“Silent type, huh?” Still not a peep. “So uh, the rescue prison break thing. That was nice of you. Got us all out and everything...” You're still just staring at his back, you slow your pace a bit.

“You're only here because she asked it of me.” He finally says, looking back to you. “Hurry up. I'd prefer to keep this brief.”

You meet him halfway, still choosing to fall a little behind until you're at the front with him and the lady in blue. The three of you pull ahead of the others a bit to keep the conversation at least somewhat private.

“So, what's the deal? From what I've been hearing you staged this whole thing just to get me. Why?”

The woman in blue looks to you from the side, her mask catching some of the morning sun and appearing a bit brighter and more radiant. “You have heard correctly. As for why, it concerns your abilities. Before we press on with the matter, you are indeed Asher, correct?”

“Going by Faust now.” You reply quickly.

“Were Asher,” she switches to past tense without skipping a beat, “Correct?”

“Yes.”
>>
>>33970408

With that she nods, the subtle sound of a sigh from beyond her mask, “Under normal circumstances you would be dead right now.” She spares you no words. “My associate could attest to that.”

“Wouldn't have even known what killed you.” The red man speaks through the distortion of his mask.

“You see, you did something that made you a target.” she says with something akin to accusation mixed with admittance.
“Are you aware of what you might have done?”

Feeling a slight flash of sweat beading from your pores at the sudden accusations you kind of look away as you ponder what could draw the attention of these people. Out of everything you've done... You can think of a lot. “Is this about the time that I stole a couple grand from an ATM?”

The Woman barely even seems stunned.
A sudden growl from the man, and you can hear him say, “Such an irresponsible use of magic...”

“Okay... Is this about about that church? Because I swear a god told me to do it.” You raise up your hand in a feigned display of defensiveness.

“No. Though it is because of that event that we know your name.” She says with a an almost sad voice.
It sounds like she has an unspoken opinion about that one...

“Alright, alright...” You close your eye to think of it once more. Then it dawns on you- the people that you saw through divination. Something inside of you goes cold with a grim realization that they somehow found you just by that. Of course... There was a short woman, a tall man with a thousand yard stare, and then a third one that was looking at man ass.
“I... saw you.” You say aloud. For half a second, your hair stands on end as the man suddenly looks at you, your life flashing before your eyes just at that.
Swallowing away that tangent of fear, you remember now. This is the man that she thinks of as a monster...

“Yes. That is why we have taken an interest in you.”

“But you said that normally I'd be dead, is that right?” You keep walking, keeping your eye off of the man, you don't need to see him make any sudden moves anymore.
>>
>>33971062
He's cute. I mean, I know people were worried about him being retarded or not having a good contract, but he's pretty cute.
>>
>>33971155

“Indeed. When I traced your viewing through the flow, it was revealed to me that your fate could become intertwined with ours. If it was not for this,” she points slightly to the man walking just to your other side. “He would have silenced you in that box and we would not be talking right now.”

>>
>>33971178
>it was revealed to me that your fate could become intertwined with ours.
Good luck with that. Our allies tend to have a pretty short lifespan after intertwining with us.
>>
With a shake of your head, you give up a nervous smile to the humid air. “Well, when you put it that way, I have to say that I'm quite the fan of intertwining fates.”

The woman laughs a little for your own benefit, the man remains frigid and quiet for the most part. “Considering the circumstances. It is very lucky for you.”

“Okay, so... Who are you people? I mean... You went so far as to extract me from a goddamn high security government facility for what most would call a whim.” You shake your head. You wouldn't be able to believe it if it didn't already happen. “Who can just do that? And with only two people no less?”

The woman reserves herself to silence for a moment as a cabin comes into view through the deciduous wood. You notice just how hot the late summer is now, the heat resting upon this wood, the distant sounds of water, running water.
“Are you going to answer?”

“I need to speak to the others. Join them for a moment and we will continue this conversation afterward.”

You relent and turn back to them, “Alright. Though it still seems weird to be talking with who could've been my assassins.”

“The world's become very strange.” Her sing-song tuned voice almost rings with a bit of happiness.

You return to the crowd, standing by John and Helia.
“So, what'd that bewitching little lady want from ya?” The guy asks.

“Oh you know, asking my sign, bloodtype, and so on.”

You feel a little pinch from your side, Helia returning her arms to your side, “Don't joke about that Faust.” Her voice is playful, but her eyes are more than a bit accusatory.
>>
>>33972263

“Hey, hey, I haven't done any harm. Back down.” You laugh it off and put your own arm around her. You can't wait to eat. More than that though, you can't wait till this damn hex is off of you.

The blue woman addresses everyone, tells them a little about the place, about the creek that's not too far, the bare amenities inside.
“This place is untouched by technology, aside from what we've come here on you should find comfort in the fact that you will be safe here for the time being. I understand that there must be those amongst you that are still dealing with the shock of going through some very traumatic experiences aside from imprisonment. I'm here to lend my ear and help you through this difficult time. Our benefactor will be here soon with the food and clothing we've promised.”
“Please trust in us,” she places a hand over her heart as though to plead with everyone, “We will help you.”

From there a few people walk out to the creek to enjoy the outdoors, others hang around outside the modest cabin, no one really goes inside though. Being cooped up in a metal box for months will do that to you after all.

“Hey love, you alright?” John asks Elena, the woman's seemed to get progressively more freaked out since finding out what the most immediate plan is.

“Uh- uhuh. Just. Fine, Dandy even. Is, uh, no one else going inside?” She seems to eye the door, and wince at the various insects flying around.
Oh right, her OCD and germaphobia. Yeah, this is going to be some kind of fun for her.

With Helia at your side as the two of them enter the cabin, the blue woman and red man beckon you over.

“Sorry about that. To be frank, we cannot tell you who we are right now. Not so long as you are baptized by the followers, that is.”

“Oh?” You're actually surprised by that, “You know about what the baptism does?”
>>
>>33972298
“Enough at least. I can liberate you from them if you wish along with the removal of the hexes cursing the two of you.”

“You make this sound like there's some kind of a catch...” You say with a bit of scoundrel wariness. There's always a catch.

With a nod, “Yes. We want you to join us. Though based on your history, we ask that you do so through contractual obligation.”

You roll your eye, sighing at that. Contracts, contracts. Everyone wants a piece. “What are the terms?”

“That when you are no longer allied with our cause you forget everything about us. We do not take prisoners under threat of death like the followers or Overwatch. Our only request is that you return to your life and do nothing to hinder us with this condition.”

“This seems almost too good to be true.”

The man chuckles, the distortion turning it into some inhuman sound. “We only offer this if you free yourself from the followers. They won't be able to track you, though one of the hands should already know about what you're being offered. If they want to punish you, they'll come for you, and if you refuse us after the fact then we no longer have any need to associate with you.”
He stares down at you, looking you in the eye through the glare of his eclipsed sun mask, “A magically convoluted hostage system. Yet nonetheless you have the freedom to decide. That is all that we will offer.”

“Is everyone else getting the same offer?”

“Yes.” The woman answers, her voice ringing, “Though we pulled you away to explain this in length to you so that you understand why we've selected you for this.”

“And the others are collateral?” You say with an air of detachment.

“They are-” The man starts.

“People.” The woman finishes.
>>
>>33972325

“Whatever you want. I don't care about the followers.”

>>
>>33972342
>[] “You have a deal then. I'll sign on with you guys. Might as well see what you're about.”

Man this situation is gonna bug me no matter how it resolves.

Honestly the fact that the followers know everything we do has always bothered me, but I've tolerated it because they seem like stand up guys. Though the memory game shit also bugs me, that can be bypassed by just keeping a journal or telling Luci to remind us should we forget. (probably. magic is funny sometimes.).

I say we join these guys, but we should really emphasize that we are on friendly terms with them still.

Also, we need to track down Eustene and Camille, we need our posse.
>>
>>33972342
>[] “You have a deal then. I'll sign on with you guys. Might as well see what you're about.”

As much as I like the Followers, those zany psychos, this seems like the better decision, at least in the short-term. And it could be a stronger long-term position as well. We know they have good intel, are dangerous, and seem to be taking advantage of the chaos caused by the conflict between the Followers and Overwatch.

There really isn't anything waiting for us back with the followers, and we were with them more out of convenience than anything else, even if we agree with them on some things. And worst happens we can defect/backstab these guys, though I'd rather avoid getting on their bad side.

I wonder how much they know about our relationship with Lucia.
>>

>>
>>33972342
May I at least speak with my patron before I give an answer?
>>
>>33972605
We already talked to Luci about them last thread. She seemed to more or less be of the opinion that we should use them to further our own power.
>>
>>33972563
>That when you are no longer allied with our cause you forget everything about us.
we will forget about them. not anyone else.
Which means if they do this. once we've the power, if we can find someone stronger than them and renegotiate/destroy this contract.
I'd rather remember about potential allies/foe's
>>
>>33972563
Yea, I feel like the exact implications of this contract will need to be fleshed out more. IF we're signed up with them for say, 5 years, and we leave, is all that time just gone, leaving us essentially in some weird fucking place in the future with no idea what the hell's going on? Or will it just make us confused about why we did the things we did?
>>
>>33972626
The good news is that we're being actively coerced into switching sides, so we shouldn't ping as a traitor like Hot Rod did.
>>
>>33972342
On the plus for joining them we get away from the followers which will grant us some additional freedom and we will get the hex removed immediately.
The cons for joining them are that at least some of the followers will likely see us as an enemy and we will lose our contacts in the followers (though admittedly they haven't done much for us so far). Also the losing our memory thing kinda scares me.
Overall I think our purposes (awakening people like Luci wants) still align pretty well with the followers if we can still get in contact with them.
>>
It's obvious that we're not going to stay with the Followers, but I think everyone should keep one little important tidbit in mind for the future: Susej isn't really dead. The Followers are going to make a resurgence eventually and it will be nasty.
>>
>>33972741
We should definitely ask about their expectations of our activities. If they want us to suddenly become a good guy, that won't really work out too well. If they just want us to be useful, that's totally fine.

>>33972788
I think staying out of the whole follower vs overwatch fight is in our best interests then. I think this group allows us to stay out of the limelight, which will let us pursue some of our bigger goals.
>>
>>33972741
I'd like to still be on friendly terms with the followers, but I don't know how they'll take it. I don't want to ping as traitor.
>>
Why the fuck do these people want us? Asher has, like, no value to these people. Even the trap had summoning, and I don't see they ass here.
>>
“Twist my arm. You're sounding pretty convincing right now.” You try to laugh a bit to disarm the situation. It's for yourself really. Everyone wants a piece of Asher. Followers want him for the legion, OverWatch wants him to protect the borders... These people? They want him to keep his damn mouth shut.
“What are the exact conditions for this contract?”

The woman inclines her head,“Am I to assume that you are agreeing?”

“Quite possibly. I need to know the exact terms.”

The woman takes a deep breath that drags over the harmonics changer, it sounds like someone just hit a harp, “The exact terms will be as such: If you intentionally harm one of us; If you intentionally subvert our cause once informed; If you take record with intention of betraying us to our enemies or exposing us to the public. Then you will have all knowledge of association purged from memory and persistently withheld even after time of death.”

“So I can't do anything to directly or indirectly to screw you guys, and if I do I'll forget everything and anything that could give me a reason or means to in the first place.”

The woman gives you a brief nod of confirmation, “Yes. You will have everything purged from memory with exception that one with authorization reinstates your memory.”

You smile at that one, “Ah, that's clever . So if someone has information you need...”

“We have ways of getting it back.” The man says with his own distorted voice.

“And If I accept the contract and choose to leave whilst violating none of the conditions?”
>>
>>33973361

“You are also free to do so. You are a free man that can make his own choices in life. To confirm, are you willing to accept the contract? I will assemble what is needed for both rituals if you are certain.” The woman speaks again, lacing her fingers around each other.

The rustle of trees brushes against your ears in a hushed chorus of whispers, as though a jury accusing you of the choice that you're about to make.

Once you do this there's no going back.
“Sounds good to me.” You say taking in a breath of the morning air.

Far from view of the others, you, the red man, Helia, and the blue woman

The woman assembles a circle of salt whilst mumbling out a little chant that hums through her mask. She makes certain that it is as near to perfect as possible. You hear her say something about separation of this space from the outside and asking for the other world to recognize this space.

With that, she tops off the circle with a five point star. Fire manifests, earth raises, wind whirls leaves and the earth wets at four of the points.
“And with the power of spirit, this circle is complete.” She whispers and the salt alights, shimmering and forcing the air itself to quiver with power. The air clears, and you can sense all outside forces being extracted from this anchor between both worlds.

“Flashier than what the followers did.” You comment at the blue woman, as she sits cross-legged within the circle, her eyes and veins glowing a bright sapphiric blue with a certain mythical hue to it.

Reaching out her hand as though in trance, “I invite two guests that I must name to this space of ritual, might they abide by my rule within this space and bear humility before the other world. Come, Helia, Asher.”

The two of you cross as asked, following procedure respectfully. As you cross the boundary you can feel something lifted from you. It feels like there's a sudden loss of awareness from a part of you, and a loss of something that's been there for so long.
It's the kind of relief you feel from losing a parasite. Liberation.
>>
>>33974806
You stumble, floored by the feeling as your conscience is unsuppressed. You remember Joanna, Robert, Cassie, and all of the people of the church. For a moment, you feel sick to your stomach... A dry heave in disgust of the people you've wronged.

“Guilt is reserved for the sane.” The Blue Woman says, yet it's not her harmonic this time, it's the word of her soul. “Those free from it are those too prideful, insane, or fanatical. I feel that I'm on the verge of losing it myself at times.”

“I want it to go away.” You bring an arm to your mouth to hold back watery bile, “Why am I feeling this way now?”

“Because the Followers told you that what you did would be forgiven, all sins that you commit towards your fellow man is for the cause of fixing them. I cannot say that we do not do as such. Some of us bear the guilt. Others cast it away.”

“Just... Make it go away. They were miserable people leading miserable lives. I freed them from the stagnation of their insufferably ignorant existence while the world wakes up and suffers around them...”

“Keep that in your heart then. Make it true. It'll be up to you after we're done here.”

Pushing back the bile, you stand up beside Helia, “Get it over with then. Sooner the better.”

She states all the conditions of the contract once more for the two of you. “By the grace of the God, the Goddess, and the almighty river that carries us all, you will abide by these conditions. Give the mother gaia a single drop of blood within this space. Thus, our union will be sealed, and the God and Goddess revert you to the state before you were bound by waters of mankind's blood instead of the womb of Earthmother.”
She presents a dagger to the two of you. “Recite unto her as the blood is shed, 'I am sorry earth, set me free.”
>>
>>33974828

You take it first and slice your thumb with a slight wince, the blade's sharp enough to split hair. Barely hurt at all. As you squeeze a drop of blood from your finger, “I am sorry Earth, set me free.”
The drop soaks into the soil and you fall to your knees from a strange weakness that shakes your entire body. With a shake, a hand of earth with hairs of moss and nails of flowers rises within the circle, lifting you upright as a woman follows the hand after. You say the words again as though in trance, and she smiles. As she embraces you, a tear rolls out of your eye as you're reminded of your own mother, who's warmth has long been lost to you.

Gaia holds you there, just like that. She says nothing, and that's a comfort in its own right. After a moment, she departs... And you awaken, opening your eye, realizing that you'd lost consciousness within the circle for a moment. You look to your hands and notice that they're replenished. You're not so gaunt and bony as before.

In a moment of excitement, you reach for your eye, maybe that's restored too? No, still an empty socket there. You sigh out your disappointment. At least you're not a borderline skeleton anymore.

Helia comes out of her own trance, also nourished by the grace of gaia.

“So?” You say, getting yourself up off of the ground.

“You're free from the followers, and contracted with us. Do you... feel like yourself?” The Blue woman asks, as though searching for more input as to what just happened.

With a shrug, you look away. There's a lingering feeling of guilt, likely guilt that you should've had as someone who isn't a complete fucking sociopath. “Yeah. I guess I feel like a person again... What about the hex?”
>>
>>33974828
>making us feel bad
I already hate them
>>
>>33974852
“Oh, well. While we were on the plane, I examined the origins of your hex.” The Blue Woman actually laughs a little bit, before turning to something a bit more melancholy. “A man used his own soul to place it, with some serious restrictions...”

“How are we getting rid of it?” You ask again. This is a pressing matter. You want to be able to get angry, to use magic again.

“Simple- for me, anyway.” She inclines her head and her power persists, alighting as bright as before. This time though, it concentrates in the heart of her breast. “By the power of the God and Goddess, and the tradition's faith in the flow...”
“The guests of this sacred space bear corruption, a spirit that is not theirs. As such...”

Awww fuck.

>>33974938
Here it comes.
>>
Something blows back against you, no, not your body. This wind howls through the core of your soul. The curse that's become so suffused and factual to the constraints of your body and soul is pilfered with this purifying wind and scorched away by sacred fire.
The wiccan law takes the curse with it, whisking out into the ether, seeking the one that laid it upon you.

Helia seems to go through the same, though at a point she begins to scream, “No! Don't take her from me! Without her I am nothing!” She sinks her fingers into her body, drawing out droplets of blood from the sheer force, her aura slowly splitting into a kind of dark yellow and the deadly silver-white that it's become of late, like DNA unraveling its strands, her soul splitting apart.
“No! No, no, no!” she screams as the unraveling resists.

It doesn't take you much to figure out what's going on...

The current her doesn't seem to mind, even if the actual her might kinda possibly object, we can't say for sure.

She considers it a part of her, and she's a Vein, we just have to coach her through melding her soul with it, put some of those magic lessons we've been taking with Lucia to use.

It's pragmatic too. Fara is a liability. If we keep Helia on our side we stand to maintain a loyal ally, as opposed to keeping an unstable one. The cost is that we have to be somewhat decent to Helia now and again...

Nah.

“Helia.” You whisper her name amidst her screams, her wails. Tears stream down her face as her colors of power are split by the dominating power of the Rule.
“Helia, listen to me,” planting your hands upon her shoulders, you stare her down as her struggle obscures her vision, eyes so bright that you can barely see her irises. You reach deep to find the words that can make her forgive you, to forgive yourself. They don't come easy, and for a moment, you have nothing to say as she fights a losing battle.

“You need to have the strength to help yourself.” You say, words you've given her before. The first time that she almost died. “Relying on her won't make you stronger. It will make you lost as a person. You don't need to be useful to me.”It's hard to believe the words that are coming out of your mouth.
“Let her go.”

“A-Asher...” She pleads with you, shaking her head, “But... But she loves you, I... Love you.”

“Let her go. You can work this out without relying on her to think for you. Let her go and be free to think what you want. If you want to hate me, then I want you to be able to.”

“But,” she blubbers again, cringing as the tear of the two souls widens, “But I love you.” Two voices ring out, only one has a body.

“If you love me, I want you to be able to move on. Go if you want to. I can't always be with you, and I don't want you to die for me.” You say as you squeeze her shoulders tighter, you bite the next words through your teeth.
“Let. Her. Go.” You speak to both of them, they seem to understand this.

A tear hardens upon Helia's cheek, “Asher... Hold me...”They speak as one as they reach out for you.
>>
>>33976199
that was actually pretty beautiful. I'm glad we picked this, cant wait for the rest
>>
>>33976199
Wrapping your arms around the body, you embrace them both. “Asher...” The two voices say your name one last time before their resistance wanes. Silver-white is torn neatly away,
Helia loses consciousness, and you hold her in your arms, lowering her down gently. With the back of your hand, you wipe the frozen tear away, it melts away into clear water.

Fara is gone.

She wasn't the unmanageable kind of crazy, she had understandable needs, wasn't really that hard to read, and was utterly loyal to us. Keeping her in check wasn't some insurmountable task.

Some of the others came to see what the fuss is about, John stands at the edge of the wood with Elena, the two of them looking on with a mutual curiosity. A few others that you've yet to learn the names of do the same.

The blue woman ceremoniously breaks the circle, as she introduces herself and the red man.
Speaking quietly to prevent the others from hearing, “I am Saphira. Saphira Elmcrest. And my associate's name is-”

“Marcus Warrior.” The man says flatly through the distortion of his mask, “We've got some company, we should return.”

“Will the other contracts be as flashy?” You ask as you carry Helia away. Looking down at her sleeping face, you've got some seriously mixed feelings about what just happened. But... She deserves it. Nearly getting herself killed fighting beyond the point that she should have died, over and over again.
Only the madness that was Fara had made that acceptable. A fucking mistake on your part that let her get strung around by the insanity of the dead.

“You were the only ones cursed. Such preparation will not be required of the others.” Saphira talks back as she hails the others. “Are you all enjoying yourselves back at the cabin? Did you need something?”

“Well, we heard screaming like someone was getting murdered on over here. Seemed like the wrong thing to do in butting in but-” John starts up.

“Just an exorcism.” Saphira states matter-of-factly. With you can Marcus following, the others seem to have their worries quieted a bit.

“Oh, aright then... I s'pose. Ah, by the way, that bloke you were mentioning finally got around to showing up. Seems a bit of the odd sort though.” He crosses his arms and sucks in some of his breath with a shake of the head, “Fear for the safety of me bum, if you know what-”

“Took him long enough.” Marcus says as he walks with you. He pulls ahead to stay beside Saphira.
It's not completely noticeable, but she leans away from him just a little bit as soon as he nears. You get the feeling that things might be complicated between those two.

Marcus and Saphira pass the others, the woman guides the others to follow her. It's kind of strange actually. In a way she reminds you of friend, like you can trust her and that she means well. She's guiding people, leading them even. Just like Friend.
The difference though? You can't quite place your finger on it, but you know that it's there. She's doing something different.

You pass by John, and he gives you a bit of a pat on the shoulder, “Hey, you're lookin' ten years younger, what the hell happened to ya mate?”

“Thanks for the compliment, you shoot back to him.” With a turn, you make to pass off Helia to him, he seems to get it. He's stronger than you anyway. Even without the emaciation, she's heavier than you're really capable of carrying. “A bit of magic. Tuck her in at the cabin, I'll go deal with getting the supply so you don't have to fear for your ass.”

John gives you a witted smile, “Fair by me friend. Less that guy's eyein' me, the better.”

Elena sticks by John, and the two of them start heading back for the cabin, you give your own bit of chase to Saph and Marc.

You find yourself some distance from the cabin, van parked in the middle of the wood, with tire tracks leading over wilderness and back to some distant, concealed civilization. Standing outside of the vehicle is a man out of his element in a pair of shoes much too nice to get dirty, and a suit that screams out for the higher society of politics and social balls. His hair is slicked back and combed with a handsome elegance.
As he sees Marcus and Saphira approach, he straightens his posture, adjusts his suit, and smiles a smile that you've seen before. A shit eating, ass kissing, brown-nosed grin with teeth white as god's shoeshine and straight and orderly as a deck of cards.

“Ah, hoped I had the right place in the redneck middle of nowhere!” His voice is masculine with a tendency on the high end. It rings with a mark amount of politeness even with his obvious sarcasm, “How's my favorite couple doing? Get your man?” His eyes fall on you before they answer. You notice his smiles get a bit wider and all the more unnerving.
“Oh, so you did.”

It's now that you fully understand what John was talking about.
“Name's Faust. Recently signed on.” You say, ignoring a hand that's automatically outstretched for a handshake.

“No last name” He withdraws it, with disappointment obscured under breath.

“No need.” You say, to the point.

“Stop harassing him.” Marcus says as he passes, heading to the trunk of the van. “Throw me the key.”

“But I've barely even begun,”The queer man clicks his tongue childishly and fishes a pair of new car keys out of his pocket, tossing them over at Marcus's demand. “Eloc Damer is the name.”

“Don't think I asked.” You say guarded, folding your arms as though to protect yourself.

~Man butts, man butts! He's looking at man butts!~ Nora laughs in the ether, and you can already see Mr. Damer's eyes following some distant targets, eyes fixating on you only after the fact. Dear Lucia, that scry was no joke, this guy has absolutely nothing he's willing to hide.

“I... Should get to helping Marcus get things for the others,” an excuse to cut this damn conversation short as you duck around to a side. You expected to be blocked, but instead his head whips around.

~Eloc and Ash-er sitting in a tree! Butts, butts, butts!~

(You are NOT helping me out here Nora.) You chastise, and are immediately handed some things by Marcus. A bunch of bottles of water, kind of heavy actually.

“Take those up to the cabin. Don't worry about him, he's harmless. Prefers to look over touching. His own professional policy.”
>>
>>33977531
Whispering low to Marcus, “What the hell is professional about this shit? This is harassment dude.”

“More you react, more thrill he gets from it.” He throws another pack of water on the one you're already carrying. “Another for ya.”

The water weighs you down even more, your arms straining a bit, “I don't want him looking at me when I go up there.”

“He's going to look anyway.” Marcus throws another pack of water, stacking you three high now, “And another for ya.”

At this point you realize that if you keep talking to this man he will not stop piling these packs of water on you, and you immediately turn away, to start walking... You're halfway up to the cabin when you hear a wolf-whistle from behind you.

"Look'n good Faust!"

~Sooo good Summoner!~

Goddammit...

Bout time we get some sort of humor. Thanks for running, Dran.

I should probably pull for more breaks for choices... Gonna try to make these a bit shorter next time.

Anyway!

Awesome thread, Dran! This new crew looks like a lot of fun.

Thanks for playing guys.
And i do hope to make the new crew entertaining.

Releasing next thread's times tomorrow. And gonna work on characterizing at least some of these other people that you ended up getting rescued with.
>>
>>33977802
I also think they're pretty interesting. Hope you don't kill them all off too quick.
>>
Oh, and is Marcus Warrior/Saphira Elmcrest so bad?

I thought they sounded nice if not a bit corny. Though I did switch to Elmcrest last second.
Was supposed to be Crestelle.
>>
>>33977828
It's fine if you were being ironic. But if you honestly thought they were good names, then we got some problems.

Either way it doesn't really bother me all that much.
>>
Good night guys.

You forgot to change the LIMIT and total spent things.

Still says 2 and 23, should be 0 and 25.

>The Good.
The new magic system is very good. There's less ambiguity about what we get from leveling up and the cantrips are a nice way to standardize our abilities without really limiting the players freedom to make new spells.

The new characters are shaping up to be interesting. Hard to say more on this for now, but I like the direction it seems to be headed.

I feel like we've been able to make some pretty big decisions about the quest without too much fear of repercussion. I expect that to decrease a bit after things become more solidified, but it's a nice bit of agency while we have it.

>The Bad.
I like the character development on Asher, but I hope that this isn't setting him up on the path of righteousness. I don't mind him existing in a moral grey zone, so long as he can continue to do somewhat insane things (like try to someone the devil into the world).

>The Queer.
What will Luci say if our bum's safety is compromised?!?
>>
>>33981349
I'm glad, wanted this to feel as mundane as it was, like the crossroads of decisions as far as the further direction of Asher's story.
Whether or not he joined these people, their actions would very likely be feltThey haven't even told you what they've done/do yet.

I understand your concerns on his development. In part, what they've done is basically undo the follower-mind that's been forced upon him.
I realized at a point that "sane" people typically feel revulsion at killing others. To do vs say are two entirely different things.
Future decisions can get him back into something like sociopathy again. And it's not like one good turn and some soul soap is going to make him suddenly not a dickass mage.
>>
>>33982234
Well, he still has the whole contract with Donner going on, which more or less necessitates the monthly feeding of live humans to a monster.
>>
>>33982253
Reminds me, those contracts will need to be revised from the followers.
>>
>>33982291
Can we just assume Asher is going to do that or are we going to have to spend another whole thread on rewriting those?
>>
>>33982291
Just replace "Current Followers" under number 2 with [whatever these people we just joined are] and it's or less done.
>>
>>33982291
>>33982331
Oh, and number 4 can be removed completely.
>>
>>33982307
I'd actually like to move it to the end of a thread, and I'll draft up some modifiable ones in the meantime.

Speaking of Donner. The curse is still on him as he hasn't been treated yet, you'll need to bring it up, but I'll handle that "offscreen."

Oh, and I wanted to ask what you guys thought of the whole "Rule of Three."
>>
>>33982380
>Oh, and I wanted to ask what you guys thought of the whole "Rule of Three."
I think people are going to interpret it as "the priest is a pushover now! We totally got this when the time comes to kill him!" but he's not going to be really all that weakened and we get rekt again
>>
>>33982456
Well...
You're probably not going to see him in battle ever again.
>>
>>33982488
did the rule of three send some kind of feedback to him or did he get offed because he did a shit job?
>>
>>33982488
When is the next thread going to be?
missed this one
>>
>>33982380
>Oh, and I wanted to ask what you guys thought of the whole "Rule of Three."
The elimination of the hex was pretty simple. To me, this shows off how powerful this new chick is since she can dispel the curse so easily. I'm not too sad that you didn't go into elaborate detail about it.

The whole Fara/Helia thing was interesting and unexpected. I like the way things turned out, in general.

As much as I love exposition, I think this should be the limit to how much the new guys show off for now. They are interesting characters, in part, because there is a lot about them that we don't know. If you drop a ton of info about them and their powers, I think it'll be hard for you to maintain our interest in them over a long period of time.

>>33982380
Hey I don't think I saw divination on the character sheet dranzy.
