...Before anything else, what does Wendy think about about working for you?

Wendy shrugs. "...Doesn't matter to me what you do. We'll be working with each other for the Prophet shit anyway." She turns towards Mami, then back at you, before continuing. "Prima'd - Priestess would like to work with you and the Ninth in the future and she wants me to get a feel for how you run." She nods here, as if to herself. "...Be nice to have that Church shit on someone else's shoulders for a bit, though," she adds after another pause.

Huh. Well, that's true enough.

You lean back on your chair, careful not to show the surprise on your face as you stare at Wendy, then back at Mami.

This...well, you weren't expecting this. You thought it'd be just working together with the Church to bring Oriko down, but them actually sending key members to work with you directly? And not just anyone, but Wendy Cooldown yourself. Someone that you'd been involved with, long ago, before the amnesia attacks started. Back when you only answered to a name coined by a former Warmaster who made a game out of fucking other magical girls and collecting their skulls for her throne.
>>
>>33981759

As soon as Wendy made her pitch - its delivery sullen and monotonic in her usual way - you found yourself poised to refuse. She was a part of your past. The past that you'd much rather forget about, even though life still sent reminders screaming your way, in the form of crazy magical girls hell-bent on seeing you dead.

The person she fell in love with was a different person, a person who drank away her problems as much as she shot them to death. Someone who never really cared about anyone but herself, and even then, seemed obsessed only about where the next bottle of whisky was, how many painkillers left in the tamper-proof canister before she had to steal more, and just how many Magical Girls she could brutally kill with only half a magazine left in her oversized handcannon of choice at the time.

There was also Midori. You made a choice, then. Even when Wendy started appearing in your dreams, alive and vital even though you thought at the time that she was indeed dead - you even made her a promise to do things right this time - you chose Midori. The green-haired Callidus that threw herself into hell just to save you. Sure, in your defense, you didn't really know if Wendy was actually alive, or simply a figment of your tormented imagination - but you still chose.

Anyone in your place would refuse. Keep the relationship professional. Work on bringing Oriko in for all the sins she'd committed, and then part ways amicably. Move on with your being a watch-wearing dildo and her doing...well, whatever cultists do, really. Go knock on doors and ask people if they had a bit of time to know about the Blessed Lady, shit like that. All you had to do was turn her down.

And yet...

Here was someone who loved you at your worst. At your most despicable worst. You're not going to pretend you remember everything from those bad old days, but you can infer reasonably, at least, from everything that carried over from then to now. Sayaka's hatred of you, while simmering down to a prickly rapport, is one of those clues. A constant, if massively-weakened unwillingness for all but the most basic of hygiene - and yes, you still remember wearing your costume for days, even weeks at a time until you are literally forced into a shower and made to re-transform for a fresh one. Your vices, many as they are. Kyoko's eagerness to check if she'd angered you at any way, as if considering her friendship with you a frail, easily-broken one.

And of course, your immediate and snap-reflex for murder. For violence. Not an eagerness for fighting, or pugilism, or testing out your skills against others in combat - but murder. The violent taking of others' lives. Something that you had long before Pinky pressed the Golden Desert Eagle in your hand.

Here was someone who saw all that and still loved you. Just like Mami did. Just like Midori did.

And, a traitorous thought whispered in your mind, just like Iori did.

Did Wendy deserve being turned away after all that? She even helped you rescue Misaka - and that was after Midori did that thing during the meeting. She acted professionally enough that she set aside all of that to focus on what's important. ...You doubt you'd have done the same, actually, if you were in her place, watch-wearing dildoness be damned.

Maybe this would try and help things, you decide, between the both of you. You're not banking on this completely healing your relationship, or even bringing it back - but if it at least helps her get over you by being colleagues, at least, then that'd be fine. Maybe even friends, although that's probably wishful thinking on your part.

Taking your official watch-wearing dildo pen, you sign your name on the dotted line on the contract. You stamp your official watch-wearing dildo stamp on the contract itself a moment later, before closing the folder on the entire thing and holding it out to Wendy.

"...You're in?" Wendy's eyes widens by the slightest bit as she takes the contract from you. "Really? This isn't you just fucking around?"

...What? No. Of course not. She can check your signature, that's official, that is. It's got the stamp and date and everything, too.

She does so, and after a moment, she nods. The miniscule change in her facial expression eradicated completely, reverting back to its previous emotionless impassivity. Mami on the other hand is smiling her small, knowing smile, but nothing else other than that.

""Cool," is what your ex says after a moment's pause. She glances at the blonde at her side, nods once more, and then looks back at you before speaking again. "...Ground rules. Don't fuck me over, don't have me cleaning floors or someshit. I've been doing this way too long for that bullshit."

"Jade's with me - personally with me. She's in the contract to keep this tidy. I'd also like to keep Bloodysunday working primarily under me. Former Eighth, think it'd be more comfortable for both of us. You're free to use her however you want, just don't yank her out from under me without letting me know first."

...A lot of ground rules, huh. You turn to Mami, who merely shrugs with another smile, this one a bit guilty and apologetic, but also encouraging at the same time. As if to say 'just go along with it'.

"I'd also like to get some idea beforehand of where you want to assign me. ...And your own ground rules, too, shit I have to remember. I don't want you pointing a gun to my head because I used the wrong set of chopsticks or something." Wendy finishes as you turn back towards her. "Warmaster." She adds, your title almost an afterthought.

She's really asking for a lot right out the gate, huh? The ink's not even dry on the contract.

"Wendy-san is like that, Chiaki-san. Efficient, if she can be a bit blunt about it sometimes." Mami cuts in here, after politely giggling into the back of her hand. "Um, anyway, Warmaster? We do have ground rules for Wendy-san, right? And do you have any idea at the moment for where you're going to assign her?"

Seems like you have to come up with some ground rules for Wendy on the spot, here. Assignment can probably be later, maybe after you've talked to Mami about it.

How do you react?

Part of me wants to assign her to work under Midori, but that probably would not end well.

Seriously though, we should have a talk with Midori about both professionalism and Wendy before things get all screwy. Best she hears that we hired Wendy from us.

How close are Wendy and Pinky anyway? Do we need to worry about Pinky learning anything/everything that Wendy learns about us?

The three stooges are the obvious thing we are currently keeping from Pinky which we have to worry about, but even just in general, is this going to be an issue?

Yeah, though Midori obviously feels ashamed of it, and I presume we are going to have a talk about it sooner or later so I doubt thats going to be an issue again.

Well, assuming Midori does not hear about Wendy first from general gossip and think we are essentially replacing her or something.
>>
>>33981942
Wendy probably trusts us more than Pinky, but dunno if Pinky might trick her into giving out information for whatever reason.

I believe Pinky brought Wendy back after she died from the golden mask thing? Not much info on that. Dunno if this means Wendy would be closer to her or more suspicious, due to knowing what her cultists are like, how powerful she is, dying because of her in the first place, and possibly having a vague idea of her goals.

>>

We made our feelings on it fairly obvious afterwards, resulting in the lunch (breakfast?) we received not too long ago being sort of an apology.

Pretty sure she knows she fucked up. If Mami did not have her on a literal leash behind the scenes there would have been blood according to a q&a.
>>

She apologized it in the last (or the one before that?) thread and acted guilty and such.

I figure she did want to "mark her territory" at the time, but after having time to think, realised that her actions were impulsive, unprofessional and stupid.

I know it's a bit late for it, but can we remind Wendy and her cohorts to...not sacrifice anyone else to Pinky? This might be breaking the 4th wall, not sure if Chikai knows about it.
>>
>>33982057
I do think she is honestly sorry, but more about the fact that she made things more difficult for Chiaki in an already uncomfortable meeting.

I don't think she is massively sorry about trying to give a public "statement" that Chiaki is with her now. Just the fact that she made that statement poorly and in a unncessarily dickish way.
>>
>>33982048
the shenanigans were fine: In just about any other circumstance they'd have been appreciated.

I think Midori was a bit mentally broken by the fact that her closest and only friend from her previous officio died in the barrier, and Chiaki did not push at the time.

Threadly reminder that Mami set us up to be killed by Kirlia by warning her we were coming, is judged an untrustworthy danger by whoever left our recordings, has lied to us and gotten our equerry and best friend to do the same, has an army a magical girls ready to kill or die for her, is rated a massive threat by our axe, controls what paperwork crosses our desk, and supplies enough of our food supply that she is potentially drugging us into trusting her irrationally (and she's feeding QB the same stuff).

a)We know that Pinky wants to eat soul gems, because she asked us to give them some (we refused).

b)Later, she was eating soulgems and said Wendy had given them to her.

c)We know that Wendy apparently died, and yet has somehow returned to life, which generally requires intervention from a divine level entity.

Not saying we should act like its a totally confirmed fact, but acting as though Pinky is totally untrustworthy is just as stupid as trusting Pinky blindly.

IC, Chiaki has EVERY REASON to be fucking suspicious that Wendy did indeed give Pinky those gems to eat as payment for being brought back.

She might be sympathetic, but that does not change the fact that this is NOT meta knowledge and that Chiaki SHOULD be wary.

>>33982330
Dunno. While Midori has green hair, I tend to suspect she is more of a red (or is that green?) herring.

We played from her POV and saw her thoughts, which were loyal to Chiaki, so I don't know how she could she could really be a traitor or somesuch.

Though I guess there are options. Midori could be dead and the current one an imposter. Or we could fuck up our relationship and poison her against us in the future. Or something.

Truthfully though, I think the green is more likely to be a warning about Yuma, the friendly neighborhood mind rapists.
>>
>>33982258
It's not meta-knowledge, you stupid shit, it's information that's known in-character and in-line with how she acted when she tried to eat Ayumu's Soul Gem and we saw her eating those other Soul Gems.
Or are you saying that none of that really happened, that she wasn't serious? That our subordinate's Soul Gem wouldn't have been eaten if we had given it to Pinky?

Probably closer to two weeks. We got back from Siberia, there was a day or two of downtime, Ruri mission which was about two days, some more downtime, the date, then Big Shell, then Midori, then rescuing Misaka. It's been, at most, a week and a few days

I'm trying to remember, anon, but this was like a year ago. We got back from Siberia and Midori was in sickbay. We talked to Kyubey, fell asleep in the office, then visited Midori again... Not sure if same day or after. Then there was housewarming and that means one day maybe two at this point. Then was Ruri which I seem to recall was two nights, but might have been more in narration. Then there was Malal flashback and the date, and that was one more night. Uh... Then... Big Shell? That was a single day? Not sure how long it took to get back. Then we came back and sexed up Midori (or Midori sexed up Chiaki) and that same night we had to rush off to rescue Misaka. This is literally only hours after that and what has happened over the course of a year is maybe... Five days? Seven?

There are only two ground rules that you're going to give her - and it's the ones you have for yourself. Number 1 - don't fuck it up. Number 2 - remember Number 1. Other than that, she's welcome aboard the Ninth Officio Assassinorum. Along with the rest of her group, of course. Jade and...BloodySunday, is it? Yeah.

Wendy nods in return, and it's here that a small smile curls the corners of her lips. "Cool," she says again, and despite the fact that her voice hadn't changed one iota from its usual sullen tones, for some reason you couldn't help but think that she was pleased by your answer.

...Maybe this is going to work out after all.

Yeah. Maybe. You hope so.

[+50 Wendy Points!]

"...Anything else?" Wendy asks as she glances at Mami, then back at you. "Just that I have to get this to the High Priestess immediately, and I've got plans for lunch." She adds a moment later, as if to explain her rush.

Mami shakes her head. "I don't have anything for Wendy-san at the moment, Warmaster. Well, maybe brief her a bit about Officio policy and sign the usual papers, but nothing that can't be held back for later. Unless you'd like to decide who she's being assigned to right now?"

How do you respond?

Oh, so having Mami do things that will passively hurt Chiaki is fine? Mami has always been covertly sabotaging our actions, from straight up lying to us about Wendy being dead to "acting" cold to us when she almost got us killed by ratting us off to Kirika. She is the greatest threat possible to the players and needs to go as soon as possible.

It's the price we pay for MGNQ's pacing. Fortunately, the whole "Sayaka warms up to us over the course of a week after hating us for a year" bit isn't something that really hits you while you read it. It only makes you go "huh?" if you sit down and think about it.

I'm voting we assign her to Mami, later on, but diplomacy is important. We don't want to assign her to ourself because we have history and don't want to send any mixed messages, plus we have a bad habit of letting our emotional attachments take priority in dangerous situations - which makes having people we care about around us a liability. We've already got plenty of them. Meanwhile, assigning her to Midori is a recipe for a sitcom - I wouldn't expect them to get along, and while I'd be happy to see them become friends, I'm not going to try and stage it by a work assignment that could backfire.
>>

Everyone believes us about Pinky, for their own reasons. And Chiaki has not disbelieved anything that Pinky has said, nor has Pinky lied.
She's dangled the promise of information in front of us, but she hasn't lied in the interactions we've had with her.
And while Chiaki doesn't trust or want to work for Pinky, she still believes Pinky's information.
>>
Really, we need to sit both of them down together and talk about how frustrating our amnesia is, how angry we are that we spent so long broken, and how both of them helped us at different points.

Midori needs to apologize to Wendy for the kiss, it was unprofessional and only hurt her feelings...

Also, we need to sit down with our Equerry and remind her of a Hypothetical conversation we had just a few days before the meeting in the hotel.
>>

Well, we actually need to collect all 20 in order to fight Homucifer apparently, so we do need to collect them all.

Wendy would hate us because we are basically turning this position into a joke by putting her under the control of our current GF.

The thing about assigning Wendy to Midori is that Midori doesn't actually really have much of a rank.

From a practical point of view, she HAS recently begun assimilating into the ninth, which would make her a logical point of contact for other out of officio contacts.

But at the same time, personal issues.

The fact that she just joined herself is actually a good reason NOT to really assign new arrivals to her. How could she help them integrate, when she has not fully done so herself.

But thats a moot point since the personal issue makes it so utterly insane the point that Chiaki should be fired for even considering it.

Wendy should be assigned to someone of senior rank with no emotional conflict.

>How could she help them integrate, when she has not fully done so herself.
They don't have to integrate: They're not here full time. But she does have a first hand view of learning to navigate and other information they'll need.

And being asked questions she doesn't know the answer to yet will also help HER integrate better.

For the other options meta-wise I don't trust Mami and don't see why she needs to work with Wendy, I can't imagine Sayaka and Wendy ever getting along, and assigning them to our self is the 2nd best option but would send the wrong message to Midori.

Honestly, I kind of assumed that was what we were going to do, initially. It would make sense for them to be assigned under their respective rank leaders.

>>
>>33983148
I'm inclined to agree. While I didn't vote for the Wendy --> Midori option, the reason why I didn't brush it off completely was because decu doesn't seem like the sort to put in choices that would ruin everything with one iteration of votes. Hence, Wendy --> Midori seemed like an interesting option rather than a retarded one.

>>
>>33983179
As I've gathered it, it boils down to 2 main things:

1) Wendy has been getting an increasing amount of screentime. The fact that decu himself has declared her his waifu, and the fact that Wendy Cooldown (the person) is a prominent member of the MGNQ community and is one of decu's close friends, can cause some paranoid players the impression that Wendy (the person) is trying to shoehorn "her" character into the story.

2) Wendy's character is, arguably, of a different tone than Chiaki and the rest of MGNQ. I've heard Wendy be described as being "grimderp" and "edgy".
>>
>>33983148
>>33983187
Pretty much this. It's not like Deculture is big on throwing bad ends at us. He's taken choices, even seemingly stupid ones that nobody counted on and written them in and in some cases the story became much better for them. Slapping Kharn comes to mind.
>>
>>33983179
I'll be supporting Wendy unless something serious happen to convince me otherwise. Not even for the lewds, I just want her to be happy... a foolish ambition perhaps, but hey, it's something.
>>
>>33983148
Its considered retarded because of rational reasons. Read all the posts above.

>>33983179
I think in this case the minor shitstorm was less about Wendy herself, and more about the stupidity of putting Midori in charge of Wendy.

If the option that did not come close to winning had been Mami, Enishi or Sayaka, I would not have been all that bothered, and I get the impression most share that view.

So this time atleast its not Wendy hate.

But we've got so many characters already, and too many girls who want to do us. Having Wendy hanging around will just make everything even more complicated.

But it will give us a chance to observe her, and see if the Church of the Blessed Lady is on the level, or actually sacrificing people to the dark goddess.

>>33983327
Dec has, historically, done a really good job of adapting to the players.
>>
>>33983313
1) I would argue that Midori fits within the tone of the quest. Yes, she does tend to come off as a moeblob "shempai~" type of girl, but I'd say that, given how much MGNQ draws off of anime and similar Japanese pop culture, plus some of the other anime-isms we've seen in the quest, Midori fits alright into MGNQ's tone.

2) I think there's also a great deal more to Midori than we've seen so far--if Midori seems like a 2D moeblob living onahole, it's probably because we haven't had the opportunity to see Midori post-Siberia in a context that wasn't her just her fawning over Chiaki or them fucking. Remember what she did in Siberia, as Chiaki keeps bringing up? Or the kiss that just happened that caused that shitstorm? Or her insisting on going with you to Sayaka's "training session"? Or the character she's based off of?

I can definitely see why people are irritated with Midori and why they're bored with her, but I think the best of Midori is simply yet t ocome.

The black feathers suggested Homuficer involvement. Chiaki even brought her up in her inner monologue if I remember correctly.
>>
>>33983413
That was more likely Homucifer messing with the timestop that time.

Pinky promised us 2 free timestops, so maybe Pinkys absence allowed Homucifer to mess things up.

Or maybe Pinky is actually in trouble. Homucifer is a divine level creature similar to her afterall, and one of the few that could threaten her, and everything suggests Homucifer is getting more active.
>>
>>33983409
Speaking of sacrifice, didn't Pinky once say that Wendy gave her a bunch of soul gems?

>Where did Pinky get all these soulgems she's snacking on, anyway?

>"Wendy, of course! At least SHE knows how to be grateful, and to be a nice person!" Pinky sticks out her tongue at you. "But not all of these are from her, though. I got the others from the girls who really, really like me." It's here that she grins, a secret, almost sly grin. "Better watch out, Homura-chan, or they might just steal me away! And then you won't have me to look after you anymore, only that...that broccolihead fatty that you're so protective of!"

A lot of this appears to be participants adding 2 + 2 and getting the national debt. That said, I don't think that the choice was the wisest thing to do from a watch wearing dildo standpoint.

I still have issue with the fact that writeus are injecting themselves into the main quest, but I'm not about to shit all over a character because of it.

Anon, I had the same exact reservations about Wendy initially, but have come to really enjoy her character despite the initial dislike for writer-avataring biasing me against her in the beginning.

That said, I still think THAT FUCKING CAT is a shit, even if I love her from an out of character standpoint.
>>
>>33983473
Actually, question:

How much do we want writeup characters showing up in the main quest? I know the official policy is "you 100% do NOT need to read writeups at all to fully enjoy and vote for the main quest", but we also see events from writeups affecting things in the main quest.

Is this something that should continue, or something that should cease?
>>
>>33982637

You nod at Wendy. Yeah, there is something else. When the Prophet's dealt with, the Golden Weapon in Oriko's possession effectively becomes the Ninth's property. This is non-negotiable, and you stress the term enough that you feel yourself becoming more of a watch-wearing dildo just by saying it.

As for her assignment, that can wait till later. You'll let her know about it as soon as you can, and in advance, once you've figured out where she'll be needed the most. You don't want to hold her back for too long, anyway, considering that it seems to be very important that she get to the High Priestess.

"...Yeah. Alright." Wendy nods a moment later, and you can see her grip the folder containing the contract just a bit more tightly. As if letting go would make it disappear somehow. "I'll make sure the High Priestess gets that, too." Stepping back, she rips off a textbook salute - a perfectly executed one, as if she'd been practicing it. Mami must've taught her how specifically for this occasion. "If I may be excused, Warmaster?"

You return the salute, and your ex immediately leaves your office - but not without nodding at Mami as she rushes past. As the door closes firmly behind her, it's here that you let out the breath you've been holding - and surprisingly, you see the blonde also relax as well, her shoulders drooping just the slightest bit. A somewhat-exhausted smile on her lips.

"I'm not going to say that I was expecting this to not go as well as it did, Chiaki-san," She holds up a finger before you could speak. "...Because I wasn't. I will say, however, that having you both in the same room together...well, it makes the atmosphere tense, even if it shouldn't be. Does that make any sense?"

>>
>>33983526
Would love to see the list too. I guess you could go through all the threads and count. sacrifice yourself for us anon!
>>
>>33983572

You close your mouth to consider it. ...Really? Was it really tense? You didn't really get any of that. But you do know how that feels, at least. Kharn had something similar, you remember. She can make any room feel like a torture chamber, with everyone inside waiting for the thumbscrews to come out.

"Well, of course you wouldn't, but...hmm. Well, nevermind." Mami shakes her head, her curls bouncing at the motion. "I'm glad you made the decision you wanted, Chiaki-san. I know you've been doing your best with everything, and anyone else in your position probably would've been so tired of everything that they'd just hand it off to someone else - but you did it, on your own. You didn't even need to check with me or Kyuubey - which, of course, personally approves of the idea."

The mutant cat approved of you getting some outsiders as...temps?

"We're working for one goal in mind, after all. Kyuubey may not show it, but he's quite amenable to working with smaller organizations to get things done. Something about agitating the local economy and making relationships." Another smile. "I suppose he was also eager to see how you'd do with someone like Wendy, but you can never tell with him, right?"

Yeah. There's no telling what your Incubator is thinking about, sometimes. He'll tell you if you asked, of course, but you're not always sure he's telling the truth.

"Oh, while I'm here, is there anything you need, Chiaki-san?" Mami asks. "Oh, and please do remember that your ratification ceremony's tonight, so be sure to get ready for that! I'll have Sayaka-san fetch you, of course, when it's time."

How do you respond?

By now I am absolutely convinced that the only people who hate MAI ANGEL are people who started reading after the Siberia Arc and understand Midori EVEN LESS than they understand Chiaki.

>Hugs the shit out Chiaki when she is going full retard and tries out the Katana pre-op and cuts up bears and Midori

>Hugs the shit out of Pinky and baffles her by teaming up with her in the Barrier
>Only person to survive an combat encounter with Kharn and not only talks her down but also bitchslaps Kharn for going full HURR DURR BETRAYER

Chiaki likes Midori for the very same reason she likes Mami, because it just baffles her why someone would go through such lengths for her.

Not really, I am still baffled by that. After it was clear that we survived in the barrier so far through the power of DIPLOMANCY instead of frontal assault people for some reason threw talking to Ribbonhomu off the cart to charge her.

So no, the only thing that is to blame for that is people being fucking idiots.

No, those sound exactly like ths sort of things Malal would do. The latter because Just As Planned, and the former because Malal knows Kharn likes a good fight. Hell, telling someone 'Kharn is coming' is probably an effective negotiating tactic on its own.

Well, as long as she's still here in your office - does she have any suggestions as to where you can assign Wendy? You have a few ideas yourself, but you want to know if she has anything better. ...Does the Officio even have an official policy regarding outside contractors, if anything?

"Mmm, well, nothing official. Like I said, Kyuubey likes to work with smaller organizations in Mitakihara, but I do believe this would be the first time we're actually having someone from the outside get introduced to our own roster in such a way." She nods thoughtfully to herself, before pulling out her smartphone and tapping at its screen with a perfectly-manicured finger. "As for where to place Wendy-san, hmm..."

She looks up at you a moment later, putting her smartphone away and then holding up a finger. "Three suggestions, Warmaster. The first is to assign her to me: she'll be assisting me with the paperwork and administrative tasks. This way, I can keep an eye on her as well as have her see a bit more of how the Ninth works. She'll also serve as my representative, in case I'm too busy to attend to you or anyone personally."

Another finger joins the other. "Second - assign her to yourself, as a part of your own retinue. You'll be the one to keep an eye on her and show her around our Officio. You can have her handle any task you wish, even the paperwork I send your way - although I do hope you'll use your careful discretion with that." Mami winks at you here.

A third finger. "Third and last - she's a top-rated Callidus, Chiaki-san. I believe she would have made Rank Leader if she didn't stay exclusively in The Eight's shock unit. I would recommend taking advantage of that by having her help train our new contractees - see if she can't give our Callidus numbers a boost, as well as pass down some of her own techniques." Her smile widens slightly, gaining a mischievous edge. "Of course, you'll have to assign her under one of our Callidus instructors, and Enishi-san doesn't really need another assistant, so..."

You blink at Mami, incredulous as all the pieces click together in your mind. Wait, is she suggesting that you assign her to Midori? After what happened back in the Hotel? With her being your ex, and Midori being your...?

"I realize that it seems like a strange choice to make, Chiaki-san? But I have Wendy's personal guarantee that she's going to be on her best behavior at all times." She frowns here, slightly. "Granted, what Midori-chan did back at the meeting certainly ruffled a few feathers, but...well, even then, I trust Wendy to be professional."

Yeah, but--

"They are going to knock heads eventually, aren't they?" Mami gently interrupts you. "Contrary to what seems like common sense, Chiaki-san, nothing gets resolved if you keep two people who disagree with each other apart. That's simply a stopgap measure." She shakes her head. "You put them into situations where they need to work together to survive. Or in this case, to not, as you so colorfully put it, 'fuck up'. If you need an example, well, look at you and Sayaka-san!"

...

The blond smiles again. "Then again, these are just my suggestions, Warmaster. You're free to choose any of them, or disregard them entirely. The decision is, once more, up to you."

My thoughts on Wendy's assignment.

Make her part of our personal retinue. She's a liason to an outside agency, for a specific task. Keeping her close would eliminate alot of chain of command issues.

There's enough bad blood between them without us exacerbating the situation.

Not that I'm against reprimanding Midori for being unprofessional, cute as the jealousy may have been, but if we do it in a way that gets back to Wendy AT ALL we're essentially undermining our relationship and causing exactly the same sort of work environment issues that we're supposed to be telling Midori off for; it would just be hypocritical and counterproductive.

Which, yes, kinda Chiaki's thing, but we're trying NOT to do that any more damn it!

Assigning Wendy elsewhere will lessen the contact that Wendy has with Midori, but that also means that whatever issues they have will likely go unresolved unless we intervene directly to bring them together.

So it's actually two minefields; one has them clumped together in a small area while the other has them spread out over a wider area.

Magical Scribe Eleanor Slam versus Magical Aristocrat "Milly" Schulz Redux

As it turns out, this bitch is stupidly good at throwing out lots of attacks really quickly. The first thing she does is hammer at me with her maces; each attack is charged with enough electricity to make my hair stand on end. I have to keep moving my spear to block them, and one of them smashes into my metal arm. That's the only one that doesn't hurt, even though I blocked all of them. Mace bitch manages to sweep my legs out from under me, though, and I'm kissing the mat soon enough, the taste of blood in my mouth. Fuck, that hurts.

Laying around bitching about it isn't going to help things, so I roll away, narrowly avoiding a blast of lightning that would take me out of the fight. Fuck, it hurts to stand now, too. She's got kicks like a fucking kangaroo. The stupid pantaloon things are sticking to my left leg; it's definitely bleeding.

Focus, Eleanor, FOCUS! Ignore the pain, you're good at that. It's just that this time you're focusing on laying the hurt on a bitch.

Yeah. That insufferably smug face of hers is pissing me off. Not as much as what she said, though. I'm going to beat an apology out of her.

I step back a little, looking every bit like I'm still on the defensive. As I'd hoped, the impulsive berserker comes charging at me again. Her mouth's moving, but I'm not paying attention to any of her bitching. In a heartbeat, I close the distance between us. The look of surprise and disbelief on butterfly girl's face... I kinda wish I could frame it over a fireplace. It contorts into rage and anger when I stab her in the foot. I try to follow that up with a sweep to knock her down, but she pulls off some acrobatic bullshit to jump away. I see her cringing when she lands, though. Red blood and black ink stains her pretty white high heel shoe.

She's pointing at me with her mace and shouting. Her voice is muffled and indistinct, but it sure doesn't sound like an apology.

Hey, Decu what are your opinions on Homura's actions in rebellion and have they affected your portrayal of Akuma i.e. having her as evil rather than morally ambiguous like the end of rebellion
>>
Her yammering gives me an opportunity to dash up to her and make her other foot part of a matched set. She's hollering as I grind the tip of the pen into her foot, driving it deeper and opening a bigger wound. Not so regal now are you, you prissy, stuck up bitch?

"Apologize. Now," I snarl at her, the effect diminished by our significant height difference. I'm able to pick up the word 'mongrel' from her response, but otherwise can't make any of it out. Still not an apology, so I remove the spear and make to start skewering other things. Like her hands, which I should have been paying attention to, as I narrowly avoid both maces crashing together where my head was, sparks and electricity flying from their impact. Hopping out of their reach, I make to counter; there's no way she can avoid me now.

Except she avoids me anyway, by flapping her wings and going airborne. My stabbing attack just barely misses her. I forgot the bitch could fly.

She quickly flies out of my reach and hangs in the air like a fucking hummingbird. I can't make out her expression from here, but I bet she's pissed off. Lightning dances off her maces as they start to glow. A mix of blood and ink drips from her feet onto the mat. Butterfly bitch is injured, but she doesn't show any signs of slowing down other than her hovering being a little erratic. Is this what an Eversor is like? Being able to pretty much ignore what should be incapacitating injuries and keep going? I fall back, my own wounds dully throbbing as I start to feel tired. Fuck, I'm panting, too.

I'm... I'm just not cut out for this sort of prolonged, strenuous activity, at all. If I can't end this soon, I'm going to lose, and then I'll have another thing I'll never forgive myself for.

I grip the pen tightly with the stupid metal arm, and then I bring it back. Then I line up my shot. And then, taking a few steps forward, I scream, "FUCK YOU, WHORE!" before hurling the spear at butterfly bitch with everything I've got.

The missile screams toward Fuckerfly with deadly accuracy, making to pin her to the wall like a bug in a collection-

And she dodges it in mid air, the spear getting stuck in the wall between the weapons I don't care about.

No. No no no no no. That's not fair. That's not fucking fair at all.

But I should have seen it coming. I telegraphed my entire attack. I was a fucking idiot who fucking forgot the most basic fucking rule, and I deserved to have this shit happen.

Everything that was merely aching before, it all starts hurting at once. I'm acutely aware of burns on my left arm, and I think that wound on my leg is gaping now. I fall to my hands and knees in pain and despair, trying not to cry. I fucked it up. I fucked it all up. I can't make Fuckerfly take it back. I can't be an Eversor. I can't go home. I can't open a candy shop. And I was a fucking idiot for ever thinking I could.

"Did you really think you could win?" echoes Fuckerfly, her words biting harder than any of my wounds. "A worthless mongrel like you, an Eversor? Don't make me laugh."

I am worthless. I am a mongrel. I am a fuckup who can't do anything right. I can't argue that at all. But I still... I just wanted her to feel the slightest bit sorry for insulting Checkers. For insulting my parents. For insulting other people. I don't care about me, but I wanted her to not mean those. And I couldn't even do that much.

Why couldn't I even do that much? I deserve bad things and slander, but they don't.

Fuckerfly's voice interrupts my thoughts. "As enjoyable as the sight of your groveling is," she sneers, "it's time to extract payment for your transgressions."

"Now scream for me!" she yells. There's a thunderclap, and I look up to see a huge lightning bolt strike the mat in front of me, leaving a trail of fire in its wake. Fuckerfly... No, Milly, is laughing haughtily as my demise draws closer. I could run, but what's the point? I'll just get tired.

Please. Please just get it over with.

[3/10]
>>
>>33984949
I'm sure Misaka is perfecly capable of making some lab rat's life hell until they fetch her lunch.
>>
The lightning bolt fizzles out and stops just before it tickles my nose. I'm almost blind at the moment, but I hear something splatter to the ground a ways off. Looking up, I see Fuckerfly bent double, coughing and retching before a stream of vomit escapes from her lips. Her flying is even more irregular. She almost looks like she's drunk from how much she's swaying in the air. I wait and wait for her to resume the fight, but it's not happening. She's just barely hovering a few feet off the ground now. Is she okay?

Come on, Eleanor. You've been given a second chance. Don't waste it. It hurts like a bitch with the adrenaline gone, but I rush over to Fuckerfly just as she looks like she's getting over it. My power fist is pulled back for what I hope is a devastating hit.

Up close, I see her lips are stained black, and there's black veins on her arms and legs. There's a very sharp smell of ink in the air. Her eyes are red and bloodshot, too.

Focus, dammit! It doesn't matter even if it's the fucking plague! Focus focus FOCUS! I might be a fuckup, but if I try, I can still FUCK HER UP!

Fuckerfly raises her maces to attack again, but FUCK! THAT! SHIT! I smash my fist into her groin, uppercutting her with a cunt punch. There's a disgusting snap of bones breaking as her pelvis shatters, and Fuckerfly is sent spinning into the wall.

I'd swear even my mechanical arm is starting to feel tired, and I want to stop now. But Fuckerfly is sitting up and clutching her electrified weapons. So, even though it hurts so much that my vision is blurring with tears, I dash over to her as fast as I can go.

There's a lot of blood where she landed, with little swirls of black in it, too. Strips of skin and tendon barely keep Fuckerfly's legs attached to her body. I think that's a half-digested scone poking out of where her stomach was. And I can smell ink, though it's not nearly as strong as the stench of blood and other stuff.

God, I feel sick already.

Thanks for fun. I'm so happy I can make these threads now.
>>
"Y-you stup-" starts Fuckerfly, who immediately starts screaming when I pulverize her right arm, her mace clattering to the ground along with much of her useless appendage. She shakily raises her left mace, a bolt of lightning shooting out and striking the mechanical arm. I barely even felt it. Planting my foot on her chest, I grab her remaining limb just as she charges up for another shot. There's a popping noise, followed by a wet, tearing sound as I rip it off of her; her head bangs flatly against the bare metal floor.

I'm panting heavily now, I feel sick, and my eyes feel heavy, but Fuckerfly is in much worse shape. Her limbs are useless, and she's throwing up again. She's screaming curses at me now, too, most of them unintelligible, but I know what she's trying to say. More insults about me, whatever. I don't care anymore, she can't hurt me now.

Apparently, I was wrong. I forgot about the wings. Fuckerfly flaps her wings to launch herself at me. I think she's trying to bite me, but she's too slow. I grab her by the face and force her back to the ground. I make a fist with my left and try to punch her, but it just hurts when it connects with her ribcage and doesn't seem to do anything.

I'm going to feel awful about what I'm going to do next. But Fuckerfly's not staying down, and I'm still pissed about what she said about Checkers and my folks. Kneeling down on both wings to keep her pinned, I memorize where all the bits of her are, then shut my eyes so I don't have to watch what happens.

I bring my robotic fist down on her ribcage and crush it into pulp, the splashing and crunching sounds making me cringe as bits pieces of the girl splatter around. I feel some of it get on my face, and that makes me hesitate before I bring it down again. And again. And again. And again. Punctuating each strike by screaming "FUCK YOU" as I blindly reduce a living, breathing person into meat. Some of it even gets into my mouth, but I keep going.

[5/10]
>>
>>33985088
Yeah, but it's not BEST BIG SISTER MURDERFACE bringing her lunch.
>>
The smell, the sounds, the exhaustion, the taste of blood, and the act itself finally become too much to bear, and I throw up my breakfast on top of the girl's corpse.

I think I can stop now.

I try to crawl away from the mess I've made, but everything hurts too much. Even the robot arm hurts, or maybe those are just phantom pains. Either way, I flop onto the ground and land in a pool of viscera and gore.

Don't look at it. Just don't fucking look at it.

A pair of firm hands pull me up from the ground and onto shaky feet, dragging me away. Even though I'm not looking at the mess anymore, my eyes feel almost too heavy to open.

...Fuck, Eleanor, you didn't even get hit that much. How can you be this tired?

Because I'm weak. If I didn't have this stupid arm, I'd be a little smoking stain on the mat right now. But that doesn't make it okay to do the same to Milly.

"And the winner, by total body destruction," calls out Kai from somewhere close, "be Eleanor Abbot Slam!"

"Congratulations, kiddo, you murdered a person" Madge quips dully. "Aren't you proud of yourself?"

I force my eyes open to look at them, and make the mistake of glancing back at the carnage. From this distance, it's a red and pink splatter against the wall, with some bits of white, yellow and black thrown in. I don't feel sick, though. I don't think I have any more sick to feel at this point. Instead, I feel...

...I feel tears forming in my eyes. I feel tears flowing down my cheeks. Fucking hell, you're just going to drag everyone down with you, Eleanor. And I just can't stop them. This whole thing is surreal and disgusting. I feel like I'm still stuck in that witch barrier.

"Don't cry now, lass, we'll have you patched up and shipshape in no time!" Kai reassures me as she pulls out a first aid kit, readying gauze and ointment to treat my injuries.

"I'm... I'm not proud..." I murmur quietly.

Madge sounds confused when she asks me, "What was that?"

[6/10]
>>
"I'm not proud of myself..." I sob aloud. I turn back to look at both of them, feeling shame and indignation at their clueless expressions. "I... I... I went too far! Why didn't you stop me? She couldn't even defend herself at that point..."

"And it was right brutal, it was!" cheers the asshole pirate, earning a misty-eyed glare from me. "Ye make a fine Eversor, Slam!"

"Miss Cress," Madge says slowly, smiling at me, but in a way that doesn't feel like a real smile, "why don't you tend to her injuries while I do the talking?"

Pirate shark thing laughs it off noisily, but still asks, "Are you sure-"

"Yes," Madge insists, adding, "that's an order."

"Very well then, your Majesty," Captain sharktail concedes, shaking her head in bewilderment. While she's applying something to my arm that stings enough to make me wince, Madge - oh, she's the one who's holding me up - starts talking.

"Miss Slam," she asks, voice suddenly much gentler, "why were you applying for the Eversor program?"

"To... To go back home," I answer, sniffling a little afterwards.

"To go back home?"

I nod, explaining, "to the Eighth Officio." That makes Madge wince, but she doesn't interrupt me. "Russ said I had to... Had to be strong enough to protect myself."

I wait for a response, but the woman isn't saying anything. The only sounds are those of the pirate captain rummaging around the first aid kit. Madge is glancing at her watch every now and again.

I break the silence first. "And... And I was told... That she'd help me open a..." I feel my cheeks redden as my voice dips to a murmur, "...a candy shop."

"Am I correct to assume you dislike fighting?" Madge asks suddenly.

"Oh!" I jerk back as something taps my soul gem; gun shark lady holds up a grief seed full of black mist.

"I... Yeah," I answer, "I don't, I don't really like hurting people." Kai gives me a weird look, but says nothing.

"Miss Slam, you're what Miss Russ would refer to as 'terribly good-natured'," explains Madge. Despite her smile, her voice is cold enough that it makes me shiver. "While I can appreciate that you're not as bloodthirsty as the other crazed killers around here" Kai sniggers at this, earning a glare from Madge before she continues speaking, "how do you expect to earn your keep?"

"I could do paperwork like before..." I respond sadly, all my progress in the past few days starting to crumble like sand in a tide.

Madge is skeptical, "Can you really, though?"

"Hate paperwork," I mutter, shaking a little. "Paperwork hurts. Mentally. Physically. Even in my witch barrier, there was paperwork..."

"So you're the one that Crazy Crunch-" starts fish girl, but Madge hushes her.

"So," Madge summarizes, "you don't like hurting people. You don't like doing paperwork. What can you do, then?"

I glance at my feet, starting to cry at my own uselessness. "I... I don't know," I sob, "I just want to help..."

"You don't have to hurt people when you fight," Madge tells me, raising my hopes. "If you go witch hunting, that is."

...Fuck. Fucking hell. I don't think I can go through that sort of thing again without having a permanent mental breakdown. One nobody - not Russ, not Checkers, not my folks, not all the Culexus in the world - could snap me out of. Is this really the only thing I'm good for?

"Think of it this way, Miss Slam" explains Madge, as Kai finishes bandaging my legs, "Witches are magical girls who have been twisted by rage and grief into monsters. They are pitiful creatures, but still violent and dangerous. They're like once beloved pets who have become rabid, and infect everything they sink their teeth into. The most merciful thing you can do, then, is put them out of their misery."

Madge holds me by the head with both hands and looks me dead in the eyes. Her touch is freezing cold.

"Do you believe that you can do that?"

[8/10]
>>
"...No." I answer flatly.

Madge looks disappointed. "Then I-"

"But," I interrupt, "I still want to try."

Madge's smile comes back. "Very good, then," she responds, letting me go to my stumbly feet, and glancing at her watch. She looks back to the shark girl, who has finished putting her stuff away. "Miss Cress?"

"Aye?" Kai pipes up.

"Please escort Miss Slam back to her quarters," Madge orders, adding, "I believe she's earned a rest."

Kai makes a little mock salute at her, grinning and calling back to her, "Aye aye!"

After that, Madge briskly walks toward the exit at the opposite end of the room. She's probably in a hurry.

Still...

"...Miss Madge?" I ask timidly.

Stopping and turning on her boot heel to face me, her half-cape swishing, Madge quirks her eyebrow in minor annoyance. "What is it now?"

I shrink back at this, feeling terrible for holding her up.

"Um... Thank you," I squeak. And just as to not delay her any further, I add, "That's all."

With that over and done with, Madge swiftly leaves Kai and me behind. She waves briefly, and I'd like to think that made her day just a little brighter.

Kai shakes her head and grumbles, "I can't understand this whole 'not wanting to hurt people' nonsense." Putting a clawed hand on my shoulder, she speaks up encouragingly as she leads me back out the way we came, "Still, I'm sure ye will make a fine witch hunter."

I feel myself going a little red in the face from such praise. Or maybe I'm just that tired. Either way, I tell her, "thanks."

The walk back is mostly uneventful. A lot of people glanced at us, but nobody stopped us or really said anything. It gave me some time to think, which caused me to remember something I should have asked about much sooner: "will Miss Schulz be okay?"

Kai laughs that odd laugh again. "No need to worry about Moneybags!" she reassures me, then snorts, whispering, "From what I heard from Her Majesty, she's been needin' to be knocked down a few pegs for some time now."

"In any case," she says aloud, no longer making a weird conspiratorial whisper, "the lass will be fine with some new prosthesis."

I just nod back. I guess it's okay... But I should send her a card or something. Probably won't apologize in person, though. That can't end well.

We stop in front of my room, just as something else hits me. "Wait," I exclaim, "what about work? I was supposed to be at Sundry Offerings later!" Jael's going to be so mad if I'm not there in time.

"Arr, me apologies, lass!" Kai says with an embarrassed smile while scratching at the back of her head, "I meant to tell ye that ye have the rest of the day off!"

...Huh. Okay.

"But startin' tomorrow," she warns, "ye be in Eversor trainin'!"

And with that said, she leaves me alone. Her tail thing is still glaring at me, right until she rounds a corner and disappears.

Put key in slot. Turn knob. Pull open door. Remove key. Go in. Shut door. Lock door. The room's just as I left it not too long ago. I don't know why I thought it'd be any different.

I'm hungry again, but more than anything else, I'm tired. Deactivating my costume makes some of the mess, and some of the smell, go away, but I'm too exhausted to shower the rest off. Too much hassle. Plus I don't know what I'm supposed to do with these bandages. Are they waterproof?

I pick up my pajamas off the floor and slip them back on. The sun's still out, so I close the curtains on the window, leaving the room... Relatively dark, before flopping onto the bed.

Oh, remove arm first. Turn this way, then that way... It comes off with a click. There's a lot of blood and stuff on the fist.

I'll clean it up later. I'll call up Checkers later.

Right now I'm just so sleepy.

But... I think I'm going to be okay. Yeah. It's not great, it's not ideal, but I think I might be okay. And so is Milly. She'll be okay. Things are going to be okay. I'm sure of it this time.

...I really hope things are going to be okay.

"...Good! See to it that you don't!"

"Alrighty! Thank you sooo much, Crunchy~."

Huh. Interesting sociological information about the culture of our Officio.
So would you say that "Brutal but Fair" is the ideal that the Officio's MG's appreciate and prefer?

Magical girls are pretty competitive, so while they're already a fan of Murderface, they're savvy enough to also scrutinize how she'll lead the Officio. They don't want a despot, they want a firm leader with conviction.

So simply kneecapping people until morale improves is not the answer.
Surround self with competent advisers, acquire advice from advisers, then implement a plan with resolve, adapt as circumstances dictate.
Being told that the plan is bad is not grounds for a kneecapping.
Being mouthed off to IS grounds for a kneecapping.

The Iron Circle

Chapter I: Olympia

-
In a field of iron and circuitry, she dreamed.

She dreamed of cogs, of gears, of works wrought of stone and metal. Images of a finely-crafted rifle, a gilded clockwork wolf, a suit of armor surpassing any in existence whirled through her mind, each one a masterpiece waiting to be made real. Eventually, she chose the rifle; an appropriate gift, she reasoned, for the newly instated Warmaster in Japan.

The image of the rifle was replaced by an emerging blueprint, and like a loom weaving together a garment, the blueprint spun into being. First the base structure of the firearm, then the finer mechanisms—the trigger assembly, the system of operation, the safety—down to every last detail, until she was at last satisfied. A fine gift for a—

-Hmm? Is that a present? For...*gasp* for Homura-chan!-

The dreamer paused at the interference. The blueprint continued to float on the sea of circuit boards and silicon transistors.

-No! No, no, no, no, no,! YOU don't get to give Homura-chan anything! Only I do! You-you GEARHEAD! You COGBRAIN! RUST BUCKET!-

Ignoring the stream of childish curses, the dreamer thought-started a program.

[Initiating Memopad application. Loading...]

To her right in the electronic dreamscape, a white notebook-like image materialized. On the blank pages appeared writing formed of neat print.

<Personal log, timestamp 5395.94111. Fifty-sixth encounter with unknown entity.>

-Are you listening to me?! She's MINE! Got it?! You can't have her! I—-

<As with all previous encounters with entity, fifty-sixth iteration occurred within neuroscape. Multiple anti-virus scans and diagnostic cycles do not detect any unknown foreign software in data drives.>

The entity, apparently tired of hurling abuse, resorted to floating between the dreamer and the notepad and making silly faces.

>>
>>33985428
How widespread is it that Chiaki isn't even really the same person as Girl A?
>>
>>33985354

'Brutal but fair' is exactly how I was going to put it before you beat me to it. No mouthing off, no bullshit, and you probably won't get shot.

It started with that one chick that wanted to transfer out, but told us what was really going on when we asked. The end result was, as far as I can see it, entirely satisfying for everyone. That squad was the first ones really introduced to how Chiaki was going to run things. I'd like to think they have been spreading that around.

Watch wearing dildo simulator is my favorite part of this quest now because of those interactions.
>>
<Entity continues to exhibit intense frustration with my reactions to her provocations, as it had done since fifth encounter. Current episode of aggressive behavior appears to have been triggered by my idea of crafting a gift for the newly promoted Warmaster of the Ninth Officio. Entity, however, appears to assume gift is designated for “Homura-chan” (analysis: Japanese origin, plus diminutive honorific indicating emotional bond between speaker and subject).>

Heedless of the entity and its attempts to provoke her, the dreamer continued to take notes.

<Observation: Entity believes “Homura” is the new Warmaster of Officio IX. Inference: “Homura” is an alternate designation for new Warmaster of Officio IX. Hypothesis: Entity is associated in some way with new Warmaster of Officio IX. Must contact new Warmaster of Officio IX on this subject, along with presentation of rifle.>

As the dreamer continued to ignore the entity, the latter began wringing the hem of its dress and snarled.

-Fine. FINE, you dumb cogbrain!- It twirled around, crossing its arms and sticking its nose in the air with a pouting *hmph!* -If you're not gonna listen then I'm just gonna go away! I never should have given it to you!-

<No further relevant observations made for entity. Shutting down neuroscape.>

As the dream-fields of metal and electronics faded away into reality, the entity turned and gave the dreamer a smile. As always, it was a smile dripping with blood, leaking from crimson lips down to a pink and cream-colored Magical Girl costume.

-Well...maybe it wasn't SUCH a waste.- Pitch-black eyes closed as the smile widened. -Because now, one day, I'll get to see Homura-chan take it from your cold, dead hands! Hee hee hee!- Then the giggling pink figure faded into nothing.

Blackness.
>>
>>33985574

Mami is trying to get us a harem end.
>>
Then reality made itself known again.

There was a slight buzzing sensation in her head, heralding a message.

<Warsmith?>

She paused. Then sent her own reply.

<Receiving, go ahead.>

<We've got contact from 12-Sigma-5. They'll be arriving in 30 minutes.>

<Acknowledged. I will be ready to meet them shortly.>

Now fully awake, the dreamer stood in one smooth motion, the servos in her limbs purring to life as she rose. There was a visitor today, an exchange student of sorts from the infamous Ninth Officio, and decorum demanded she go out and meet the new arrival. She noted the apparent coincidence between the timing of this visit and trigger for today's encounter with the entity.

As she headed towards the doors to her personal quarters, she took up a weapon that hung on the wall and slipped it into a sheathe at her back. It was a two-handed hammer, with with two killing faces pointing perpendicularly away from the haft. On each mallet face was etched the Roman numeral “VI”.

The hammer was made of gold.

-

She awoke with a start.

She blinked, groping about, trying to either figure out where she was or remember it. The sketchpad on her lap clattered to the floor as she flailed around.

Something gripped her arm.

“Ms. Iwakura? Are you alright?”

“Eh?”

She blinked some more, shaking sleep and fatigue from her eyes, and she realized her arm was held firmly in place by a hand made of metal.

“Ms. Iwakura?”

“Oh, uh, ha ha! Sorry about that, I'm awake...”

Honoka Iwakura laughed sheepishly as she picked up her fallen sketchpad. On the sketchpad were illustrations, designs for an artificial left hand made of steel and servos.

She was sitting in an armored gunship, a propeller-driven VTOL airplane that was a heavily modified Osprey airplane. Two rotors and a pair of engines made a steady hum as the gunship plowed the air currents. Inside the plane with her was the pilot and co-pilot—whom Honoka had yet to see—and her liaison, Laura Thomspon.

In a way, she's right, for this line of work.
Either the two figure out how to work together, or there's only one person left.
Either way, the interpersonal problem has been resolved.

Not the best solution, but admittedly the quickest and most definitive one.
>>
>Edit: the last sentence of the previous post should read, "Two rotors and a pair of engines made a steady hum as the gunship plowed the air currents. Inside the plane with her was the pilot and co-pilot—whom Honoka had yet to see—and her liaison, Barbara Falko."

Honoka herself was a taller girl, with bobbed red hair, bright blue eyes, and a shapely athletic figure. She was wearing her powered exoskeleton for the occasion; the culmination of three years of non-stop work and every bit of robotics knowledge she possessed, with metal and ceramic plates installed in strategic places for protection and hydraulics that dramatically increased her strength, she'd figured it would be her way to dress to impress. Doubly so, considering that today was the day she was meeting the masters of engineering: the Fourth Officio Assassinorum.

Despite wearing her best, however, upon seeing her liaison Honoka felt she might as well have been wearing rags.

Barbara Falko's body was covered from head to toe in metal, as though she were made out of it. Certain parts of her body were obscured by what looked to be armored plates or protrusions, such as her chest, head, shoulders, and hips, forming metal imitations of a low ponytail and a blouse-and-skirt combination. The plates and protrusions were painted a soft baby blue, while the rest of her was a bright alabaster. Her face, like the rest of her body, was metal, consisted of a pair of blue eye-lenses and barely-defined features resembling that of a blank fashion mannequin. Lines where the joints of her body lay were stark against the white alloy body. Overall, the liaison's metallic body cut a lithe, slim figure.

Either Barbara was wearing the most advanced (and tight-fitting) armor of all time, or Barbara was literally some kind of robot. Given what Honoka heard of the 4th, the latter seemed somehow more likely.
>>
“Did you have a nice nap?” asked Barbara. Her voice sounded almost natural, with a touch of synthesized quality, though her mouth didn't move when she spoke. Honoka wasn't entirely sure where the sound emanated from. Despite the liaison's inhuman appearance, however, Honoka noted she could still read her body language: calm, measured, unfailingly polite. Rumors said the girls of the Fourth were universally cold and were assholes, but Barbara seemed to defy expectations.

“Hai! Er, yes!” said Honoka. She remembered just a second too late to speak in English rather than her usual Japanese. “It was just a tiring flight, that's all, ha ha...”

“It was, wasn't it?” said Barbara, though she didn't seem the slightest bit fatigued. “I do apologize for that, flying from Japan to our headquarters in the Sahara can't be easy...”

Honoka glanced out the window. The rich brown sands of the Sahara Desert gazed back at her, a line of nomads interrupting the endless expanse of coffee-colored dunes. She'd heard the headquarters of the Fourth was mobile, and happened to be traversing one of the biggest deserts in the world when Warmaster Matsuda approved of her sabbatical. Idle thoughts crept into her head: was the headquarters an armored convoy? Perhaps a ship capable of sailing on both land and sea? Or maybe it was a giant floating carrier, like the headquarters of the Sixteenth. She flipped a pencil back and forth between her fingers to ease her excitement.

“Speaking of which,” said Barbara, “the pilot tells me will be reaching headquarters in about half an hour. I'm sure you'll want to be out of that combat armor as soon as possible.” The metal liaison nodded pointedly at Honoka's exoskeleton, and once again Honoka felt ashamed of her best work.

“May I ask how you came across that armor?” asked Barbara. “I wasn't aware that the Ninth regularly issued powered armor to its personnel.”
>>
Honoka let out a sheepish laugh as she waved her hand. “Oh, this old thing. It was just, uh, something I cobbled together a few weeks before I got here, you know. Felt it was...appropriate. Yeah.” She paused, and decided she never would have made it as a Callidus.

For her part, Barbara merely stared at Honoka for a moment before saying, “I see.” The mannequin-like face was impossible to read.

-

The conversation went on from there, to Honoka's great relief, to idle talk about their respective Officios. Honoka found herself talking much more about the Ninth than Barbara did about the Fourth, and she wasn't entirely certain if that was just by coincidence.

“...and what is it like, working alongside Venenum and Vanus girls?” asked Barbara.

“Well, we don't work -alongside- them, per se,” said Honoka, “not in the field, anyway. But they're handy, it's always nice to go into a firefight knowing you have good intelligence and good medical support.” She cocked an eyebrow. “But what about the Fourth? I'm more surprised you don't have Venenum or Vanus clades yourselves...”

“We in the Fourth believe all of our Magical Girl personnel must be fully combat-capable,” said Barbara. “So it's not so much that we don't have Venenum and Vanus clades—though that is technically true—as much as our Callidus, Vindicares, and Eversors divide the usual Vanus and Venenum roles between them. As for how this is done, we have a system that we call the Dodekatheon...”

Barbara proceeded to explain the Fourth's unique organizational structure: the Dodekatheon, twelve departments that doubled as support mechanisms and places for the girls of the Fourth to hone various skills. The liaison didn't get far in her explanation, however, before she abruptly stopped and looked out the window.

“Oh. We're almost here.”
>>
Honoka followed her gaze. In the distance was what appeared to be...a person? Or at least, it looked vaguely humanoid, with two legs, a pair of stubby arms, and the biggest shoulders she'd ever seen. As the plane flew onwards, however, Honoka realized it wasn't a person at all.

The legs were like castles, each of them a stout cylinder bristling with hundred of guns. The arms were not only by far the largest cannons Honoka had ever seen, but also, she suspected, the single largest weapons ever constructed in human history. The right arm-cannon itself was so long that a small runway sat atop of it. The head, itself the size of a five-story building occupying a whole city block, gazed back at her, its form like that of an iron knight's helmet of with void-black circular eyes and a grille for a mouth. The impossibly broad shoulders held an entire fortress-complex, barracks surely large enough for a small army and enough guns to render an entire city to ash. A part of Honoka, a very small part that wasn't enraptured by the colossus standing above the desert sands, estimated the whole thing to stand at about 2000 feet and about as wide at the shoulders.

If machines could have a goddess, thought Honoka, this is she.

“This,” breathed Honoka, “is your -headquarters-? You -live here-?”

“Yes,” said Barbara. If she was amused at Honoka's dumbfounded look, she wasn't showing it. “This is not only the nerve center of our Officio, but also our primary research, design, and manufacturing facilities of the technology that makes us the Fourth Officio.”

Honoka shivered in delight as she mashed herself up against the glass to get a better look. She realized she was probably looking very silly in front of the liaison, but she couldn't bring herself to care. “Have you guys ever fired one of those things?” she asked, pointing at the oversized arm-cannons.
>>
Barbara replied, shaking her head, “Not since I've joined the Officio, no. In fact, I don't recall any mentions of the primary armaments being fired in any Officio record. I suspect the weapons are largely there to deter attackers. The 'big stick', as it were.”

Honoka wasn't sure who would want to assault a walking fortress like the Fourth's headquarters. People with death wishes, maybe. Madmen, perhaps.

Eventually, the gunship landed and Honoka and Barbara disembarked. As they walked towards a huge metal gate leading into the headquarters, Honoka asked Barbara a question.

“So...who built this thing?”

The doors before them groaned as they approached. “The Fourth, of course, back when the Officio system was first enacted. The two people who designed it are still with us, one of which was our own Incubator.”

“And who was the other designer?” asked Honoka.

“The other designer was—”

“Me.”

The voice boomed from the threshold of the entrance. Like Barbara's, it seemed mostly natural with the slightest synthesized quality, but there the similarities ended. It was deep for a girl's voice, bordering on masculine, and despite the brevity of the one-word statement it brimmed with authority and confidence.

Honoka turned her gaze to the speaker. She couldn't make out fine details since her eyes were adjusting to the bright midday sun, but from the looming shape she could tell the being was about eight feet tall and made entirely out of metal. Despite the light, she could still spot a golden glimmer behind the figure's right shoulder, looking something like the head of a very large hammer.

“I'm Petra Dammekos,” said the figure, “Warmaster of the Fourth Officio Assassinorum. The Fourth calls me the Warsmith.” Petra gestured at the iron colossus they were standing on.

“Welcome to the Olympia.”
