You are Sireyi Valyenya, 18 years old, you are on your first quest.

You have retrieved the Horn of Alzurad: a legendary artefact that can call dead heroes back to fight for the holder of the Horn. But now you’re lost on another plane, trying to find your way home.

Your next fight of any significance is a week away, although you’ll be having several fights throughout the week you are not concerned about them.

Of course this means you have 6 evenings to spend in a new city (you’ll be resting the night before your next important fight).

Falhird is a large city, and a tourist hub, wealthy nobles come from far away to see the sights, from the crystal caves to the museums and zoos.

Also in Falhird there is a market that is open from early morning to well after dark, where all manner of legal and semi-legal things can be found.

Theatres cater to the tastes of nobles and commoners, and music halls do the same for those that like to dance.

Or you could enjoy a quiet evening in with your companions, possibly playing some sort of group games.
>>
Please choose 6 activities from the options below. Options are numbered for the convenience of those posting from phones. This is NOT final destination.

Each vote for an activity is for that evening, in order. So a vote of 125641 would mean:
(in order) Tourist stuff, markets, noble music hall, common music hall, common theatre, tourist stuff.

Posts can contain other stuff but please also post a string of 6 numbers from 1 to 7 to pick activities. In the event of tied votes I’ll roll a die.

>1 – Do tourist stuff, visit the sights (caves, museums, zoos)
>2 – Browse the markets and go shopping
>3 – Go to Noble-only Theatre (Sireyi and Gendric only)
>4 - Go to Common Theatre
>5 – Go to Noble-only Music Hall to dance (Sireyi and Gendric only)
>6 - Go to Common Music Hall to dance
>7 – Evening in with games

Finally, please roll 1d20+1 to teach Jal how to not speak like a street urchin.

[Metaquest Post]

Autism Anon, thanks for helping improve the quest by error-checking. I really do appreciate it.

I’ve corrected the spelling and grammar errors. I promise that *powerfuk* was a typo not a hidden message or Freudian slip.

True Seeing and Disintegrate should properly be Rank 3 spells, not 4.

Veil removed as duplicate spell.

M F removed from Protection From Spells, editing error.

Correct, you have an unpurchased R3 N sorcerer spell, I’ll let you know when I’ve written one, or the players can suggest one.

Character sheet corrected.

All updates have been added to the pastebin.

I recall you were creating a summary or story from past threads using google docs, I can give you my own notes on past threads if you’d like, though the organisation leaves much to be desired.

The purpose of the google doc is more to organize the entirety of the quest into a more easily navigable format compared to the archives, so newfriends can catch up easily.
It's not a proper conversion into a story, just a slightly-edited version of the content posts in previous threads.
Some re-writing, error corrections, removal of extraneous text etc, it's still very much a wip.

I'm certain I can find some use for the notes, however.
Would you be posting them in a pastebin or should I give you the Gmail address I've been making the google doc with?

Jal is still stubbornly clinging to her mixture of common and cant, or maybe you’re just not a very good teacher.

The Market stretches over several square miles and all manner of wares are on display. You and your companions stay together and Jal provides early warning of any approaching pick-pockets.

Merchants hawk their wares, con-men try to sell you useless cure-alls and fortune-tellers offer to read your future “Let me tell you about your first child!” one wild-haired woman shrieks at Sofia.

Sofia and Bokin in particular look out of place, wide-eyed and staring.

All manner of things can be bought here, are you shopping for anything specific?

The weapons and armour for sale here range from poor to excellent quality, though nothing really catches your eye. As you’re ready to leave one shop the owner says “Wait, don’t go ma’am, I have other weapons”

“Like what?” you ask

He looks around to ensure that no one else is in the shop then opens up a locked chest and retrieves a long metal tube – like those you’ve seen the Crimson Guard carry.

“Like one of the Empires own hand-cannons” he says.

“It’s illegal for anyone other than the Crimson Guard to have those” Gendric whispers to you.

You’re not interested in buying a weapon that could get you arrested, you leave.

You go looking through the magic shops for spell books and books on interesting magical lore.

Some are too simple for you, others too evil or on topics you have no interest in.

You spot Jal picking up a tome called Sex Magics and You: How to Make Every Encounter Magical.
You take it off her and put it back on the shelf.

A couple of books do catch your eye though. They’re expensive: you could probably only afford one, unless you really managed to bargain the shopkeeper down.

One is a book on teleportation and planar travel, the other a book on how to summon and bind even the most powerful foes – the author claims to have bound a demon lord at one point.

We have enough options and knowledge for planar teleportation. If we can haggle for both, that would be swell as well, though.

On the matter of money: We should make money from our fights. Given that we are already going to be rigging fights, couldn't we have someone we like profit from that?

The shopkeeper refuses to drop the price to the point where you can afford both books, so you buy the book about binding creatures and leave.

You spend the rest of the evening just having fun and browsing shops.

The next evening....

The music halls for commoners play a wide variety of tunes, some active and fast, others slow, some bawdy. You spend time dancing with your companions, sometimes individually, or in groups, or as party of much larger groups with other visitors to the dance halls. You can see you’re not the only noble here slumming it for fun.

You’re currently dancing with Bokin, though Sofia is nearby.

As the latest fast dance ends, a slower, more relaxed one starts to play. Around you many of the other dancers pair off, and hold one another close, it seems this is a tune favoured by lovers. The singers on the stage are crooning about unrequited love and heart-ache.

Bokin, who was until this moment dancing away with more enthusiasm than skill, looks somewhat lost.

Jal and sofia are still [spoilers] right?
>>
>>34005759
Casting magic in the middle of a dance seems kinda rude to any other people nearby.
>>
>>34005795
How so? It's not like we are casting on them and so far I haven't seen any sort of "casting etiquette" or similar in this quest that says it is rude to cast magic in front of other people.

It might blow Bokin's cover as an ogre though, if those cannot cast magic. If he can do it stealthily (make it seem like we, or an item did it) that would be fine.
>>
>>34005822
If you use transmutation magic like that, who knows what other you might have used ? Its better we don't attract scrutiny to our real shape.
>>
>>34005822
It's more that magic tends to be a bit noisy and a light show, so it'd probably interfere with other peoples enjoyment of the song.
Also, anyone that isn't a sorcerer of some kind won't be able to tell what spell we're casting until it finishes; for all they know we could be about to blow up the dance hall.
>>
Dancing with Jal wasn't an official option only because she wasn't nearby (ditto Gendric).

Casting spells in public is allowed, magic is seen as something of a noble (Blood) privilege, so commoners are unlikely to interfere, unless a spell is obviously harmful or aggressive.

You decide to sit this dance out, suggesting to Sofia that she tries dancing with Jal. She finds Jal and the two of them spend the next set dancing slowly.

Sofia’s hold on Jal is perfectly proper, but as the dance progresses, Jal’s hand on Sofia’s waist drops slowly, until she’s holding Sofia’s ass in her hand. The distance between the two of them also shrinks as the dance progresses, until their faces are only inches from one another.

As the music stops they seem frozen, the two of them staring at each other, Jal leans in to kiss Sofia.

Sofia flinches away and pulls herself from Jals arms, and runs from the dance hall. Jal looks upset, and goes to follow her.

>Don’t interfere, let them sort it out.

But in polite distance, we just don't want them to run off somewhere they could get lost.
>>
>>34005891
>Go after them
Just keep an eye on them from a distance, make sure they don't get lost.
Humans are second-class citizens, we need to make sure they stay safe.
>>
>>34005891
I suppose that had mixed results. Lets see if we can sort it out. Sadly this is not the kind of place were we could just let them do it on their own, which would be nicer, I guess. So
>Go after them
Just to watch and make sure nothing bad happens.
>>
>>34005858
>magic tends to be a bit noisy and a light show
I didn't know that. Where do you get that from? Also I somehow doubt that the first thing someone in a magic-rich world like this thinks when someone is casting magic in public is "They are certainly running amok. Let's run for our lives" or something similar. Just like I wouldn't think someone is taking out a rifle if I see someone take out something from their bag.

>>34005891
And confirmed... Now I just want to know: Is magic always loud and flashy? I can imagine some combat magic being so, but so far I thought it was more of a "concentrate and magic will happen" deal.

>>34005891
>Tell Jal good luck and don't rush things.

You follow the two of them at a discrete distance. Sofia stops running outside the music hall and starts crying, then Jal catches up to her.

“Ey, ‘ey” says Jal “What’s the rub, Sof?” putting her hands on Sofia’s shoulders.

Sofia shakes off Jals hands “You!” she says, still crying “You’re the *rub* Jal, or as you put it, the *Toffer*!”

Seems Jal’s been teaching Sofia thieves cant behind your back.

Jal looks confused “I dun dab fer clink!” she protests “I’m just being friendly.”

“Friendly!” says Sofia, her voice choked by emotion “Is that what you call it? You know very well two girls can’t...can’t....”

“Can’t what?” asks Jal “Be buds, be *pillow-friends* as the toffs say – cos that ain’t true and you know it ain’t.”

“Two girls can’t be together!” insists Sofia “As a princess I have to think of my kingdom and its people first, and even if I didn’t, how do I know what you feel about me, you’re always chasing after Sireyi too!”

She notices you standing there “Isn’t that true Sireyi? Jal’s tried to bed you more than once?”

“If you’d let me explain...” grumbles Jal

>>Let Jal explain herself, Sofia
Having children with someone and loving another is quite common for royalty, Sofia. Do we know in character that we will gain further powers over pregnancy? Or at least that our goddess could bless two girls with a child? That might put Sofia at ease, somewhat. And further our goddess' influence over Konig's descendant.
>>
>>34005947
>Is magic always loud and flashy?

Not always, magic is best used with verbal and somatic components - i.e. speaking and making gestures.

It's possible to cast spells without one or both of these, at a penalty to the roll,

So yes, it's possible to simply will magic to happen - but easier if it includes the sounds and gestures.

Regarding light shows - spells don't have bursts of light and noise appear as part of the spell unless it's obviously part of the spell.

For example:
A Scrying spell creates an image in your own mind - though you can project it onto a reflective surface like a mirror or water, to show others.

Dimensional anchor simply locks the target (dimensionally) in place, with no signs of what's happening.

Fireball is big and loud and obvious, no getting around that.

Enlarge simply expands the target creature without any light or noise - though Bokin might not be able to cast it without the words and gestures.

>>As Paladin of the Goddess of Joy, we can at least verify that girls can indeed be together like that. And if its really about the heir making, which she wasn't so keen on anyway, solutions can be found regardless.
>>
>>34006138
I'm not so sure about that solution, how does Velya see this kind of thing ? I suppose she probably doesn't mind polygamie, but that would require Sofias potential babymaker to be at least okay with that. Does Velya mind having lovers on the side against, or at without, the will of your "husband/wife/whatever" ?
>>
>>34006081
>Let Jal explain herself, Sofia

Sigh. Guess we won't be getting that penis to help Sofia with the heir problem.
>>
>>34006203
That would be a sloution to the heir problem. I'm sure Jal wouldn't mind having both for one time.
>>
Hey if it comes to it we can get the fleshshaper to give Jal a dick
>>
>>34006217
>>34006229

Hmm, right, Jal could benefit from it, instead of giving it to Demon Sister I Keep Forgetting the Name.

Though that would not give Sireyi any benefit, and Jal and Sofia would both have to be left behind in this plane.
>>
>>34006198
That reminds me. We know incredibly little about our goddess. I just imagined her as someone who is very liberal in a things related to sex, because there was something about "being proud of your body" at one point and the whole "Whores are people" business and something else as well.

At some point, could we get a summary of what our goddess is all about, and maybe a bit of history of the church, Pal? Stuff like rules we have to follow, whether celibacy is normal for our church (or in general) etc.
>>
>>34006271
I wonder if Root of al Life could be used to impregnate someone that isn't us. Or we would have to teach it to Sofia, which would take a while.
>>
“I think Jal was joking more than serious” you say “and please don’t make this about me – I just followed to make sure you’re both safe. Why don’t you let Jal explain herself, Sofia?”

Sofia puts on a stubborn look but lets Jal talk. Jal seems at a bit of a loss, running one hand through her hair and clenching the other into a fist.

“When I were with me crew” she says “Some of us were with one another, an some weren’t, we’d all seen how jealous folk got when someone they loved betrayed them. And we’d all seen how married folk carried on with folk they weren’t married to.”

“When we did talk about it we’d decided that it weren’t for us – just being wi’ one person and nobody else ya know?”

Sofia seems confused “What are you talking about?” she asks

“I do like yer!” insists Jal “An...an I wanna be wi’ yer!”

“Well then what’s the point of your story?” asks Sofia

“Because I don’t havta be...yer..yer one an only” says Jal “Yer true love, yer can still see if yer can fins ‘im, and yer not gotta make sure I keep my eyes and me ‘ands ter meself.”

“Are you saying” says Sofia, enunciating each word clearly “That you want to be with me, and with someone else at the same time? Because one of the palace guards once showed me this book of...of...lewd pictures of that and some of what was in there seemed very difficult, and requiring a lot of flexibility.”

Jals lips twitch like she wants to make a joke “Not...not havta be” she insists “More like, it dun havta stop yer from courting others if yer want.”

And then Jal demonstrates enough flexibility to fit both of her feet in her mouth at once.

“An just fer reference, wasn’t joking” she says to you “I did wanna get you in deb, still do.”

Sofia’s eyes go wide in outrage.

>>
>>34006400
>Where did you get the idea that they'd need to be left behind in this plane?

Because pregnancy powers, and keeping the bloodline going. Regardless of the Empire being overthrown or not, making sure her unique line continues alive in the plane is (very) important.

Sofia could leave her first born behind, but that would be a terrible thing for a parent to do, really. The kid will need to be nurtured and guided, not to mention kept alive so he/she too can continue the family.

And if Jal really likes Sofia, she would probably stay with her.
>>
>>34006271
Why would having a penis require them to stay in this plane? Wouldn't bearing and fathering the descendant of Konig be all the more reason to evacuate them?

>>34006368
I don't want concrete rules. More stuff like "Polyamorous stuff is ok with Velya" or "If you see people who have relationship trouble you should help them" or whatever general stuff. Or perhaps "For people to hurt each other is frowned upon, even if they both agree to it. But hurting a willing partner is allowed despite the Goddess preferring they don't do that." >>34006468
Nah, if we actually get rid of the empire and find a way to kill or banish the demon lord in the fire, then there is no reason to keep the bloodline going if Sofia doesn't want that. And even then, she can still accompany us to our plane. It really only depends onj if she actually wants to continue the bloodline that badly and keep ruling, which it seems like she doesn't really.
>>
You jump in before Sofia can draw breath “Let’s talk about this somewhere else, people are staring”.

Sofia draws in a deep breath, ready to give everyone in earshot a piece of her mind, then thinks better of it. “Alright” she says, in a quiet, drained voice “Let’s go back to the inn.”

With your night of dancing over, you all head back to the inn. You give Bokin and Gendric a vague excuse about ‘girl talk’ so they stay away.

>>34006486
Ok, I'll get some stuff written up.

Relevant to this conversation:

Velya is fine with multiple partners in relationships, in fact she encourages it, though she has no problem with people choosing to be monogamous.

Consent is an important point - Velya disproves of cheating just as much (if not more so) than Konig.

Lying to your lover about important matters, or sleeping with someone without your lovers knowledge or consent is a big sin.

As for relationship counseling - yes, that's something the priests and priestesses of Velya do quite a bit of.

As a Paladin your role is more martial than marital but you've had training on how to do it.
>>
>>34006514

Its not like this has nothing to do with Seiryi.
It doesn't have to be today or tomorrow, they should see if they are comfortable with eachother like that, if Sofia wants to give it a chance.

You decide its best if you mediate between the two of them, but suggest that they should talk after everyone has had a chance to sleep and calm down.

Jal and Sofia seem to agree with you, heading off to their own rooms without another word that night.

The next evening...

You spend time seeing the sights and visiting notable locations around the city. The crystal caves are beautiful, well-worth the price of admission.

The Museums are interesting and informative, but have a definite pro-Imperial slant, describing how nations were not *invaded* they were *uplifted*, rebellious regions where *pacified* etc.

The Zoos contain all manner of fantastical creatures, some you’ve seen before, many you haven’t, and some you’ve never heard of before. All the creatures are in cages barely large enough to hold them, which spoils things somewhat.

Jal and Sofia still aren’t talking to one another, do you...

You sit Jal and Sofia down separately and try to figure out what they’re thinking and feeling.

Both seem to need a shoulder to cry on, Sofia more than Jal. It all comes out amid the tears.

Sofia is conflicted because she’s equating being in a relationship with a longer-term commitment (i.e. marriage), and because she thinks that Jal’s idea of an open relationship means Jal is going to sleep with whomever she wants to, without telling Sofia. Sofia was also raised to believe that only men and women can love one another and that anything outside of that isn’t normal or is “Some deviant thing the Drache do”.

Jal is confused because she’s made her interest to Sofia clear and she thought Sofia liked her and understood what she meant. Jal does care for Sofia but is thinking more girlfriend than long-term or permanent relationship. Jal also sees monogamous relationships as inherently harmful (abusive) and/or one-sided – i.e. that one partner remains faithful whilst the other sleeps around. She’s seen too many relationships of her marks (those she’s stolen from) that show this to be true. Jal is fine with men or women loving one another and she’d be willing to promise not to sleep with anyone or chase after them seriously without Sofia’s consent.

Both agree that talking about it is the right thing, neither one wants to make the first move, or choose a time or day to talk.

Looks like they only lack trust in eachother. If Jal is okay with not having other relationships without Sofia being okay with it, there isn't much of a problem and gives Jal time to see that Sofia wouldn't sleep around anyway and if they take it slow Sofia can grow closer to Jal until she is satsified that Jal won't cheat on her either.

You outline their views to one another in broad terms and then get them to agree to chat to one another.

Jal and Sofia are facing one another, Jal is looking down, wringing her hands, Sofia is standing with her arms folded, glaring at her.

Jal speaks first “M’sorry” she says “din wanna ‘urt yer.”

“You have a fine way of showing it!” snaps Sofia “Not telling me anything you intended.”

“I did try” claims Jal “Yer just din’t wanna get it.”

“Oh so it’s my fault!” exclaims Sofia “Well that’s rich!”

Uh oh, things are getting a bit off-track

“I think what Jal means Sofia, is that she didn’t want to hurt you, and was trying to be honest and open with you, but the two of you come from very different places and so can’t always communicate so easily.” You say

“Yes!” exclaims Jal, pointing in your direction “That.”

Your explanation seems to mollify Sofia a bit. As the two fumble around their feeling in the conversation, you act as a sort of moderator, translating what they’re saying to one another rather than taking a side.

It starts going well; then they come to another sticking point – other partners.

“And when you get tired of me” says Sofia “you’ll just hop into bed with whoever takes your fancy.”

“No I won’” protests Jal “I’ll ask yer ‘fore I start walkin’ ou’ wi’ an’one.”

“And yet you won’t even think about it just being the two of us” says Sofia

“Yeah?” says Jal, “Seems like I’m the only one wot is finking yer ‘ighness. Yer seem to be fergettin’ that sooner or later yer gonna havta ‘ave a kid to keep on ruling yer kingdom.”

Jal grabs the front of her pants “Yer might not’ve ad yer ‘ands in in ‘ere yet, but believe me when I tell yer I ain’t got what it takes ter duff yer up. So sooner or later it’s not gonna be jus you an’ me.”

>Must you be so crude Jal?

>Jals right Sofia, if you are going to rule Hanse, you’ll need an heir somehow, telling Jal that you’ll never give her permission to sleep with anyone else is a bit one-sided.
Don't make it a "never". Jal is clearly willing to consider a monogamous relationship, but her point is valid, you either need to admit you will have to find a second partner, however temporary, or promise Jal that you will find other means of getting a heir that doesn't require a second person in your life.
>You’re both talking about things that might never be an issue: Jal may never find someone else she wants to love, and Sofia might be able to conceive an heir through magical means. Solve the problems you have now – don’t make up new ones.

“Jals right Sofia” you say “if you are going to rule Hanse, you’ll need an heir somehow, telling Jal that you’ll never give her permission to sleep with anyone else is a bit one-sided.”

You continue “But you’re both talking about things that might never be an issue: Jal may never find someone else she wants to love, and Sofia might be able to conceive an heir through magical means. Solve the problems you have now – don’t make up new ones. If it at all comes ever up, it will be at some point in the future. How about you see if you get along as couple in the first place, if either one of you for some reason might want to sleep with someone else, than talk it out then.”

The two of them seem to have negotiated that problem well enough and they continue talking. They’re on their way to coming to an agreement: that they will trust each other not to lie to one another, and that they’ll negotiate and agree on anyone else either of them takes a liking to.

Then they hit another sticking point: You.

“Except you’ve already picked someone else to chase” says Sofia, pointing at you “Sireyi”

“Well yeah” says Jal “But I was gonna leave her alone...”

“You’ve already tried to sleep with her!” insists Sofia

“Yeah?” says Jal “And tha’ was afore we had a little chat, but how about this: you told me last week on the airship that if you was a jack, or Sireyi was, you’d have already proposed!”

Sofia’s face flames red with embarrassment and she buries it in her hands “Thanks Jal” she says “That was supposed to be private.”
>>
About the minor alterations the flesh-shaper can make to Sireyi, I think taking the "retractable penis" alteration will allow us to romance Sofia when we get back to our dimension. And the "elastic vagina" alteration will allow us to take in Bokin when he's in full giant mode. But the stat increase is good, and Bokin can already shrink. Though Bokin might be into something similar to "fucking a fairy" or the like, proportionally.[/speaking]
>>
>>34007542
“Yeah well” says Jal, not the least bit ashamed “Yer know me. But since now seems like the right time: here’s me first request – I want yer permission ter woo Sireyi, and sleep with her if she’ll ‘ave me.”

“And” continues Jal, holding up a finger “I’m giving yer permission to do the same, Sof.”

Sofia peeks through her fingers at you “What do you think Sireyi?” she asks

>That’s a bad idea: your relationship is too new, think about this before making any such decision
>I’m flattered, truly, but just because you’ve both given each other permission, doesn’t mean I’m agreeing to anything

Sofia and Jal look at one another, then back at you, then back at one another “Well?” asks Jal.

“I agree” says Sofia “I never could back down from a challenge: first we’ll work you and me out, then Sireyi will be our first conquest.”

They embrace, and then kiss. It starts out a brief brush of the lips, but then Jals arms circle around Sofia’s waist, even as Sofia’s arms wrap around Jals neck, the two of them seem oblivious to anything except one another.

“Conquest? I’m not being anyone’s conquest! Sofia? Jal? Are you listening to me?” you say, somewhat miffed that your fate is being decided by the two young girls in front of you.

They ignore you, or maybe they just didn’t hear you.

You decide to give the two of them some privacy, you’ll just have to remember that when it comes to those two you apparently now have a target painted on your...back.

The next evening...

You and Gendric enjoy an evening at the theatre, with a meal in the intermission. The show is very good, the actors and actresses know their lines well and can sing beautifully. The story is one of duty vs love, passion vs practicality. In the end the main couple runs away from the empire to live together, whilst they live in bliss their families suffer for it – a clear message that duty to the empire comes before one’s own desires.

Nothing much happens at the theatre.

The next evening...

You all enjoy a simple, bawdy story about a woman with 6 lovers, trying to keep each from finding out about the others. There are plenty of bawdy songs as well – Jal seems to know all the words, and soon enough she has Sofia clapping and signing along too. Though you suspect Sofia doesn’t know what she’s singing.

Gendric is enjoying himself, smiling and laughing, whilst Bokin alternates between confused and blushing.

In the play a young noble woman, Samantha, seems to be having prurient thoughts about her maid, Jillian. Every time they’re on stage Jal laughs and slaps you on the shoulder to make sure you’re watching as Sam gets all flustered when Jill offers to keep her bed warm – with a warming pan, or when Jill falls in a river and needs Sams help getting her wet clothes off and getting dry and warm.

That evening you catch Jal and Sofia sneaking into your room “What us ta keep yer bed warm?” says Jal, holding a warming pan without any coals in it, and wearing a thin dressing gown and a leer, Sofia is beside her with a similar expression of mischief on her face, also in a thin dressing gown.

“Go to bed you two” you say, clarifying “no, I mean your own beds” as they try to get into yours.

The next evening...

You and your companions enjoy a quiet evening in, the night before your next fight. The inn you’re staying at provides a number of different board games, as well as decks of cards, you and your companions examine these.

Gendric has no preference as to what you do for the evening, whilst Bokin has no clue what most of the games are.

Jal wants to play truth or dare again, a glint in her eye tells you she’ll try and embarrass you once more.

Sofia pulls out a strategy board game called ‘To Build The Empire’ – supposedly about the early Drache Empire and how it was founded.

some options
Limb Upgrades:
Extra limbs (as before)
Prehensile Hair (increase in length included)

Animal Abilities:
Extreme Flexibility (all joints, and some bones, can twist and stretch beyond human limits)
Chameleon Skin (allows complex tattoo-like patterns as well as camouflage)
Pheromones that trigger emotions in those nearby (not automatically a magical realm thing – can be used to calm someone for example)
Regeneration (down-time healing, restores lost limbs/body parts, does not cause rapid ageing)
Toughened Bones (bones almost unbreakable – requires extreme physical strength, or magic)
Unusual Senses (smell emotions, echolocation, see heat etc)
Wall-Crawling

Hair is dumb, and a damn weakspot.

>Animal abilities

Flexibility doesn't seem useful for a paladin. Unless we focus on the 'Joy' part, but since we're playing a chaste paladin, it's useless.

Chemeleon skin, wall crawling and webs aren't god options either. They are more of a rogue thing than a paladin.

Stronger bones, regeneration and pheromones actually fit with the MC, since she's a powerhouse and rather charismatic. She usually does the talking, and is the face of the party.

Of course, the best mod is still a retractable penis. Fits the job's description and is sure to persuade enemies to become friends.

You decide to play To Build The Empire. You all sit around and read the rules, as well as the starting kingdoms.

In the game each of you takes control of a kingdom that used to exist where now the Drache Empire is – including the Kingdom of Drache.

“Bags the Empire!” declares Jal, laughing maniacally “Yer all gonna be under me boot cept Sireyi, who’s gonna be chained ter me battle standard!”

The Kingdom of Drache has the best overall abilities.

“Oooh Giants!” says Bokin, spotting the card titles “Giant Clans of the Ironback Mountains -Smash tiny people!” he exclaims enthusiastically.

“Hmm” says Sofia “Hanse isn’t in this game, but the human Kingdom of Leyful seems similar, I’ll take them.”

Gendric ponders his choices “Werewolf tribes of Henshir Forest for me” he declares “Regen means even if I lose the fight my units can roll to not die.”

Huh, well that leaves you with few choices.

>One of the remaining human kingdoms – with not much differences between them, solid all-round choice, like Sofia has picked.
>Plains Centaurs, fast attack and raids will win the day
>The Huroni Remnant, ancient magic is the way to go

Reading the rules it’s clear that the game is supposed to be played bloody and ruthless: sacking and burning cities gives you extra gold whilst sparing the population can result in rebellions and disrupted supply lines; breaking alliances is easy, and you get combat bonuses when attacking your own allies due to surprise.

So how will you play?

>Play the way it’s supposed to be played – crush them all! Betrayal is the order of the day!
>Play the way it should be – build alliances and trust, and don’t murder innocents
>Play it a different way (how?)

The game starts fairly peacefully, everyone starts building up their kingdoms and armies, Sofia and Jal ally with each other, and so do you and Bokin.

Then Gendric makes the first move and attacks Drache, burning one of Jals cities to the ground.

Jal retaliates by attacking Gendric and Sofia with everything she has, 3 turns later she’s conquered their kingdoms but generously allowed them to run their own nations – subject to her veto.

You’re busy building up your tech tree and perfecting your magical knowledge, even as Bokin is building up the giants, despite their slow recruitment rate.

Then Empress Jallarial decides she wants Bokin as a palanquin-bearer and you as a bath-house slave,

Heavily outnumbered the Giants and the Huroni don’t go out without a fight, in fact you manage to complete the Huroni City-Slayer and level several of the cities of Drache before being dragged out of your palace and chained naked to the foot of the Empresses Throne.

Jal takes great pleasure is describing your eventual fate, in graphic detail. Clearly she’s put some thought into that.

With the game over you all go to bed.

In the Arena dressing room...

“This is gonna be a tough one” explains Knowles “Yer’ll be up against Team Nathrite – they’ve two good solid fighters with swords and shields, a sorcerer wot uses a spell that lets him fly – though arena rules sez he can’t go above head-height and an assassin what’s really good at stabbing people in the back.”

Thanks to Siyeri's damage reduction, especially with the addition of one of her spells (Shining scale and that other spell, if she has bought it) she should not take much damage from normal opponents. With speed she might be fast enough to keep all three busy.

Sireyi rushes towards the sorcerer, as she does so he levels his staff at her, a burst of flame washes over her, dealing no harm...except her scales are a matt-black instead of all colours, and she’s moving at her normal speed, not her magically-enhanced one.

He then flies away at speed, though he’s still close enough that Sireyi delivers a solid hit with her halberd, injuring him before he escapes.

The Assassin tries to dodge Gendrics flame, but is partially caught by his attack.

The two fighters separate, one going after each of you, placing themselves between you and your intended targets.

Sireyi’s foe slams into her with his shield (HP 55/57), he hits pretty hard, if not for her enhanced strength, she would have been sent flying.

Gendric dances back from the shield rush, he’s not been hit, but he’s been backed away from the assassin.

Gathering your powers you attempt to disrupt the sorcerers flight spell (AE 35/46), he falls to the ground but rolls with the impact and rises to his feet, unharmed.

As you do so the fighter marking you attacks, slicing in to you with his sword, carving a burning line of fire across your flesh, it is agonizing. His sword must be enchanted to cause pain (penalty to next action, HP 51/57)

The sorcerer chants a spell and a brilliant burst of energy flies towards Sireyi, impacting against her magical protections with no effect.

Gathering his powers, Gendric attempts to trap the assassin in burning chains (AE 14/25). His fiery shackles wrap around the assassin, trapping him.

The fighter watching Gendric attacks, slicing him with his sword, Gendric grunts in pain, that sword must also be enchanted (penalty to next action, HP 59/68).

You engage both the fighters, covering Gendric.

The two fighters attack Sireyi, she keeps one at a distance with her halberd but the other slips through and scores a hit with his Longsword (HP 49/57), though it does little damage.

The sorcerer casts a different spell on Sireyi, to no effect, a ball of coloured light bursting before it hits her.

Gendric focuses on the chains binding the assassin, forcing them tighter (AE 3/25), the assassin passes out. The judge declares him out of the fight and arena slaves drag him from the battle.

Gendric covers your back, facing off against the two fighters. He manages to dodge or parry all of their attacks.

You rush towards the sorcerer as he desperately casts a spell. Before he finishes, you’re on him and your halberd cuts deep into his side, maybe too deep.

He falls to the ground, blood gushing from his mouth. The fight is stopped whilst the arena sorcerers rush over, slaves in tow. After casting several spells, and draining 4 slaves to exhaustion, the sorcerer is pronounced stable.

The judge considers things and then says to you “I can see you’re fighting with enhanced strength, be careful if your foe isn’t sufficiently protected. A kill will result in an automatic loss, continue.” The fight resumes.

Oh how I wish we had the giant black dragon transformation for this.
>What is Sumin asking the other workers to do?
And thank him for keeping them away.
>>
>>34010871
Yeah but we'll need to be careful not to kill any of them.
Also the DR bonus we get from our plate mail is much lower in the arena.

>>34010886
I don't think we can change our team members, and Bokin can't be revealed as a giant anyway.
>>
>>34010871
I'm fairly confident Seiryi can make it trhough that, but Gedric can't, and we can't guarantee all the orcs will.

Bokin can still be a great help in his smaller form. I say we ask to include him.
>>
>>34010782

we can't make it without killing them
>>
>>34010945
>>34010903

Honestly its better we don't take this fight at all. Its far too easy to rig this against us. Especially siunce he bet so he wins if we are disqualified for killing someone, having one of the orks die in the arena is really easily arranged with 30 of them. This is a suckers bet.
>>
“30 orcs” you say “how is that possible?”

“Sumin has ‘ad some folks talk up yer skill, ‘ow fast yer beat Masonic, and yer weren’t the odds-favrite ta beat Nathrite” says Knowles “And with some money in the right pockets...well, folk’ll look the other way. Still” he says, musingly “’e must be almost broke, and borrowing heavily.”

“What is Sumin asking the other workers to do?” you ask.

“Oh no much” says Knowles “Trick yer into a room, nod yer on the bonce an’ ‘old a rag wi’ knockout potion to yer face. Ye’d wake up naked and chained to a wall in one of the slave pens – just tha’ way Sumin likes ‘is wimmin – ha, if only we coulda got ‘im ta admit ta what ‘e did ta that girl. >>34011049
I vote we fight and use a 40AE seeds of destruction

You know we do have that one spell...
>(N) Seeds of Destruction: Evil is oftentimes self-defeating. You plant doubts in the minds of evil creatures and enhance their own suspicions, causing them to turn on one another. Can be used in or out of combat.
Use that with most of our magic, taunt them, use a dull weapon so we don't outright kill them…
>>
>>34011112
>Gendric
>Evil
He's been redeemed, he's neutral at worst and the spell doesn't affect allies anyway.
We'd probably be disqualified for making the orcs kill each other, though.

>>34011199
No, it's a magical transformation, not reliant on any article of clothing.

>>34010994
>Don't take the fight
He'll still lose the bribe money, right?

He would still lose alota money from hiring the orcs and bribing people on jobs.
>>
>>34011215
>>34011226
>>34011245
So not doing the fight would harm him quite a bit. Let's not waste our time with plans that can fail, let's just do this.
>>
>>34011146
Hold on, what if we allowed it to "succeed" so as to get evidence to blackmail him with?
>>
>>34011233
i'm saying gendric will die in the crossfire when the orcs massacre each other crazily
we've at least got enough defense with the halberd to survive
>>

That only works on evil creatures, which the mercenaries may or may not be.
>>
>>34011280
That's what the witness question to Knowles is hinting at, yes
>>
>>34011245
>>34011266

Then we can have the fight blow over, and maybe spread we got scared or something and then take all his money in the next one we can actually win.

>>34011280
Assuming people really give so much of a shit. And we can actually gather evidence from that.
>>
>>34011280
Not the rape, but the abducting and chaining? We're good at breaking chains right? They'd probably be enchanted, though.
>>
>>34010994
I don't see any worth to the fight anymore since he already lost shekels
don't fight
>>
>>34011328
We are not actually good at breaking chains. And without our divine powers, which we can't use for that, we are actually helpless in chains, which is how we got caught by Geldric if you remember.
>>
>>34010994
>Don’t take the fight

He's already nearly broke. He's undone himself with trying to get Sireyi killed.
>>

Disintegrate is a spell we know. It might work, but is not necessary.
>>
>>34011351
As a dragon-blooded she would be considered a lesser kind of noble though. And clearly he has been doing this quite often, he knows to cover his tracks. I really think more we don't win anything from trying that, we can just as well wait for the next fight.
>>
“If I tricked a confession from Sumin, could you get some witnesses to it, Knowles?” you ask

“Hmmm” he says “Yeah I know some folks, we can ‘ave some of the arena officials nearby, as long as yer can get ‘im to say it was ‘im what attacked her, they’ll fine him a lot an’ ban ‘im.”

We could have Jal, Bokin, and Sofia break us out? Also, could we get the Somin guy to make a demon oath to help the rebellion while we go FF7 Don Corneo Mansion on him?
>>
>>34011287
The arena's pretty big and he moves at 3x human speed.
Keeping his distance is a valid tactic, and they have healers on standby.

There's still the fact that being under the effects of a mind-altering spell cast by us that forced them to kill each other would probably disqualify us, so the plan is still dumb.

>>34011342
>Our divine powers we can't use
We can still use our passives, such as Divine Warrior and Giant's Strength.
Gendric's chains were a magical spell that he casts.
We shouldn't do the 'voluntary abduction' plan, anyway, it's too stupid.

Yeah, I know, I mentioned it in the post.

I hope people realize that our goal is not simply to make the guy hate us or to have him be disgraced or banned or whatever. The goal is to get him on our side. Unless someone can explain to me how getting him banned from the arena will do that, I will vote against that.

My vote:
>Do nothing. We have already accomplished our goal.
He is in debt already. We might get him further into debt, but that will only mean our sister has to pay more to get him on her side.

Also, getting him on our side is unnecessary, we just need the votes, and our current plan is to get him in debt to the underground and then our sister buys out the debt.

“This fight sounds a guaranteed loss” you say “either Gendric and I die, or we’re disqualified for killing some of the orcs, I can’t agree to that – can you get me another fight?”

“I can” says Knowles “might take me a few days though – I’ll call you when I’m ready”

The next morning Knowles sends you a message - It seems Sumin has withdrawn his deposit from the Arena (required for anyone making bets over a certain amount) and told the clerks at the counter he does not expect to be back “anytime soon.”

It seems Sumin won’t be doing much betting for now, hopefully whatever debt he’s in will be enough for Ellahi to use against him.

You’re in the city of Falhird, where the demon Hanandrirac lives (sorta), do you want to try visiting him, or go back to Arrowgate instead?

On the voyage back you spend time with Bokin, catching up with him, making sure he’s ok, talking about what he saw in the city of Falhird.

As you talk to him it becomes clear that something is upsetting him, though it could just be a typical teenage mood.

Eventually you get him to talk about it.

“What’s really bothering you Bokin?” you ask, after his umpteenth attempt at deflection.

“I feel useless!” he says “Gendric goes everywhere with you, and I don’t – I could have fought in the arena – you know I’m a good fighter. I just feel like you’re treating me like a child.”

I disagree, it's important to argue and discuss things.

>Small hivemind
Yeah
>Waifu wars
It was one minor shitshower followed by agreeing to not bother with romance until we actually know people.
>Big hivemind
Yeah.
>Average popular quest
Iunno, it's still pretty hivemind sometimes.
>Shitpost etc.
That's more due to one faggot (shorty) posting about this quest in the qtg, and then a few minor shitstorms.
It's really not that bad, compared to some of the things I've seen.
>>
>>34012714

There's nothing to be done, Anon. Just grit our teeth and weather it. The trolls will be either easy to spot and ignore - or become ordinary players to blend in. We just need to keep our temper in check.

“The arena was very dangerous” you say “I wasn’t happy about having Gendric their either. And you’re my ward, I supposed to look after you, not put you in danger.”

“I knew it!” he insists “You see me as a child!”

“I’m not finished” you say “The arena wasn’t suited to your abilities, if I have a task where I need you, I’ll include you. I mean, I nearly got disqualified for heavily wounding my opponent due to my supernatural strength, imagine how hard it would have been for you to hold back so much.”

“I suppose” he says

“I honestly considered taking you with to the arena. But most of your strength needs to be kept hidden, you are my secret ace that no-one expects. People think you are just an unusual ogre, I want them to keep thinking that for a while. And I wouldn't forgive myself if I let you be hurt because you weren't allowed to used your full strength.” You say

“Yeah” he says “Yeah ok”

[Bokin loyalty gained]

Later on, you spend time with Gendric. He’s at the ships rails, looking out over the scenery.

“I never thanked you for having my back in the arena” you say

“Think nothing of it” he says “You’d have done the same for me”

“Still” you say “thank you.”

The two of you talk about your trip to Falhird, about your companions. Gendric seems happy at the moment and nothing appears to be bothering him.

Eventually the airship arrives back in Arrowgate and you make your way back to Ellahi’s house. Angelique shows you into the study where Ellahi is and you report what happened with Sumin Fallos.

“Yes” she says “I heard, he’s not so deep in dent I can control him, but you’ve given me just enough to work with, so I guess it counts as a success. Now do you want to rest for a bit, or are you ready to see Gulkil Fernahcs.”

the waifu about isla was pretty big imo, I mean it set the precedent that we would no longer try hand holding until we knew the chars first

People did yell at me in /qtg/ to stop getting mad over 4 inches, so I will.
Y'all are still the embodiment of greed, however.
It's just, Sireyi wasn't good enough? She wasn't already special the way she was? She HAD to be taller?

What I have seen so far was not productive. Which fills me with the urge to reply to every post and write angry words because I want them to actually accomplish something. Which would just further the arguing.

>>34012714
I rather see this as having many different groups. Though it is difficult to fully distinguish them because I feel that many are trying to artificially form rifts /many differences only happen because of strawheads and misunderstood arguments.
>>
>>34012874
The writeup said tall. And 6'0 is already stretching it, really. She could stand to gain a few inches.

guess we deserved it going the easy route

Well, it was big for the time the quest was in.
It resolved well enough and fairly quickly, and we went without shitstorms for a pretty long time, so it's only to be expected that we'd have another eventually.
This one isn't too bad anyway.

just want to add to my post in that we should go about the teleporting carefully and far away from our sister's place
don't want any GUARDS GUARDS GUARDS spamming like last time

We've only been on an airship the past few days, let's stretch our legs and wings a bit.

Good idea. We should also study the book we bought some weeks ago. The one about binding powerful beings.

>Stretch our wings
Only if we're two hundred or more miles from the nearest demon city.
And have False Impression up.

“That’s a rather lukewarm thank you, sister” you say “I did as you asked”

“You did the bare minimum!” she says “Had you taken the fight I would have had Sumin in the palm of my hand. As it is, I can make influence him enough to vote the way I want.”

“That was a sucker fight” you respond “I’m sorry I chose not to risk my life and the life of my allies for your political gains.”

Ellahi pauses “Of course” she says “I’m glad you’re ok, but it’s not easy, is all I’m saying.”

“You look stressed” you say “How’s your health?”

She waves a hand dismissively “Been better, the doctors where off with their estimates, but then they always are, still, no immediate concern.”

“I think we’d better get settled back in” you say, “It’s been a long trip. You also get the sense that Ellahi is hiding something.

The next morning....What are you going to do today, or rather, what are you going to do first?

Please pick only 1

You decide to talk to Ellahi the next morning, after breakfast so she has some privacy. She’s packing files into a bag in her study, Angelique is with her. Angelique has a bottle of green liquid, a large spoon, and a stubborn expression. Ellahi is wearing formal attire.

“Where’s the report of the Apland crop yield?” asks Ellahi “Ah, never mind, there is it.”

She looks up as you enter “Ah, Sireyi” she says “can it wait? I’ve got a meeting with some local council members.”

>Talk to Ellahi

I would have preferred to find alternative ways of curing her, but if she's feeling bad, there's no going about it. Do what must be done. Our friends are dependable enough to watch over us while we're out.
>>
>>34013293
Well, we are leaving for the day. If she has time in the evening we can discuss things then, otherwise it would be best to talk now.

No, fuck getting Sireyi's soul contaminated with dirty demon stuff.
>>
>>34013293

>How much medicine is she taking Angelique?
>Don't put on your strong face for me, sister. I don't want to risk losing you over pride.

No fuck you, we're a fucking paladin of JOY.
>>
>>34013402
>Letting a good person die, the lynchpin of a successful rebellion against a demon lord, for no greater reason than avoiding 'taint'
If you choose this, you're already far worse than the demon you refuse to save.

Demons aren't even bad, necessarily, and if we do get 'contaminated' as you put it, we could just use Heaven's Rebirth on ourself later.
>>
>>34013402
The purity of our soul is but a small price to pay to save someone.
>>
>>34013402
>this is the sort of faggot we have now
this quest's players have seriously turned to shit
>>
>>34013536
That opinion has been expressed everytime it came up since we got the prophecy. Might even be the same anon.
>>
>>34013501

More to the point, nothing is happening to our soul. At most we'll have our powers and our appearance tainted, but probably nothing our goddess could not fix if she wanted.

Murdering a baby in a ritual would be soul-tainting, not a medical procedure that can save someone's life with no risk to anyone but ourselves (and the patient I guess)
>>
>>34013402
You do understand this quest is the gathering place for white knights right?
>>
>>34013586

How long will you be staying OP? Enough to justify a new thread?
>>
>>34013586
We don't even need Velya to fix it, Heaven's Rebirth would change anything changed by demon essence back into pure angel.

>>34013705
>Implying we're white knights
I'm just playing the character and trying to behave the way I believe Sireyi would behave, at least in my voting patterns.

New thread

Another 3-4 hours

>>34013705

>>34013501

Now guys, look. I'm all for curing Ellahi, but not by dirtying Sireyi's soul. Call me a purist or whatever, I don't want her angleic self to be diluted. It will probably have some bad consequences later on, specially if her mother is shows up, or we interact with more Deities.

I'd prefer to find another way to cure her, instead. I don't know how, I think there was a mention back on another alternative, but I can't recall that right now.
>>
>>34013833

Our goddess has been more than understanding with us so far, and it's established she has diplomatic missions with evil gods and demons. I don't think she or the priestesses will excommunicate us for saving an alternate universe sister that wants to make the world a better place.

If you're genuinely doing this just out of attachment to Sireyi's form (I can sympathise with that), I'm convinced that we could petition Velya for a boon in restoring it after we're back on our homeworld.
