"D-did I do something wrong, sir?"

Your ears perk up, and you look over to Rin, clad in a fairly baggy track suit. Azure's tutorial sessions are as dull as ever, so you've kind of been zoning out. Today's lesson is on physical fitness, and how even Renegades have to fight to stay in shape. You're not so sure about that last part, as it feels like your muscles have been getting more and more cut without you actually doing anything. Is this how popular, good looking people feel? You push those thoughts out of your head and return your attention to Rin. She seems more flustered than usual, nervously glancing towards Azure.

Today is just like yesterday, tomorrow will be just like today. People just keep fretting about stupid issues.

You ask her what she means by all this.

"W-well, sir," Rin draws circles in the dirt with her toe, "I don't know if you know, but P-Piercing and I we...uh...went to see a movie and dinner and...um...he's been avoiding me ever s-since."

She looks at you with watery eyes and puts her hands to her cheeks.

"I-I must have done something stupid! I know it! I've been trying to ap-pologize but he...," her eyes grow more misty and her lip trembles, "He always just runs away."

You give a deep sigh. There's a limit to how dumb you can be, Rin. Honestly. You know that Azure just took her statement the wrong way, and now he thinks that she has no interest in him. Well, maybe Rin isn't considering him romantically, but she does like him a lot. You scratch your head and wonder if you should even bother to set Rin straight. She doesn't deserve to be worried, but maybe ribbing Azure a bit could prove fun.

>Tell Rin she did bother Azure. It's not really a lie.
>Tell Rin that Azure is just being shy. You can afford to throw the boy a bone.
>Lie to Rin and tell her that you don't know what's going on.

I still don't really like Azure, but Rin needs to make her own judgement. And I'd relish the chance to rip his arms off if he fucks up. that counts for Germ points, doesn't it...
>>
>>34018267
+13 Germ Points. It's a 5 point scale.

I'm going to be outvoted anyway, so here's the obligatory vote to bully Rin.

>Tell Rin that Azure is just being shy. You can afford to throw the boy a bone.
>>
Well, it's been about 20 minutes. If anybody else is going to show up, just pop your head out and be counted. Otherwise, I'mma start writing.
>>
You let your shoulders slump in exasperation. Rin is completely clueless, isn't she? Not that you're really surprised. This girl would think that she was being fun of if she won the Nobel Peace Prize or something. You take her aside and lean over to whisper in her ear. You tell her that Azure is just kind of shy like she is. He really had a fun time on their date, and he was just worried that maybe he acted like a goof or something, and didn't make the sort of cool impression that he wanted.

"O-oh..." Rin turns red and looks at the ground, "Is that so...m-maybe I should go t-talk with him...later...maybe."

Yes, maybe she should do that. You think he would really appreciate it. You tell Rin that she should also tell Azure to thank you the next time he sees you. Rin gives you a puzzled look, but nods and heads back to her place and starts to stretch her legs out. You can't imagine what use leg stretches are to Overed, but Azure's lesson is Azure's lesson.

--

After the lesson, you watch on as Rin and Azure begin their normal awkward conversation. Stealing glances at each other between bursts of stuttering and long pauses. You sigh. There's not a lot of hope for those two, is there?

"No, I think that they shall be a splendid pair," a voice reaches your ears. Small, dainty hands caress your shoulders and you feel breath on your ear, "In retrospect, I believe it to be a good thing that you did not take her when you had the chance, Darling."
>>
>>34018884
You jump forward in shock and turn around. It's Claire. Of course. She has replaced her normal attire with a tight white shirt and red bloomers. It would have been quite erotic...if you were into that sort of thing. And you're not. Not at all. You brush off her comment, saying you weren't that interested in Rin to begin with. Claire looks at you in the eye and leans over. She takes you by the chin and forces you to maintain eye contact with her.

"Is that true, Darling? Did you really have no interest in her?"

You swallow hard. You get the feeling that Claire's being dead serious here...

>Just her body. You're a man, after all...
>Truthfully, you thought she was cute.

Well, being honest...Rin is a very cute girl. She just has that feeling that makes you want to protect her. That sort of thing. Claire gets in your face, her stone cold expression burning itself into your retinas.

"Do you not want to protect me, Darling?"

You...you sort of get the feeling that Claire could protect you. She's so strong and knowledgeable about all these weird dangers, and you know she's the one that busted you out of that ninja prison and defeated Seven single-handedly. Not to mention the fact that she was an assassin for years...You feel like you stand a chance against most Overed, and that you're a pretty good fighter at this point, but the fact of the matter is that you're just a little bit wary of Claire. You feel like she could take you out a moment's notice, and that's not really giving her the same fragile image that Rin has.

"I see," Claire backs off and droops her head, her eyes going glassy, "I'm too strong. I understand."

No, you didn't mean to..

"That's fine. I understand," Claire's gaze returns to normal and she tilts her head, "You just need to be stronger than me, is that correct?"

You're not sure Claire really understands what you meant. It isn't that you like Rin more because she's weak, it's just a protective feeling. That's all. Claire takes your hand and rubs it against her cheek.

"No, you're right. I have been pampering you. I allowed my love for you to cloud my judgement. But," she locks her eyes onto yours, "A true man like you isn't satisfied with that. You want to completely dominate me. I can make that happen, Darling. Please wait for me, I will make everything ready for you..."

Claire caresses herself with your hand once more before backing away and walking with clear purpose towards the Academy. Just what horrible ideas have you put in her head this time?

"So," Void begins, "Let's start our experiments."

You squirm in your chair, tied down by many straps. Though you've tried, your amazing strength has yet to prevail against these bonds. Void looks at you with a sadistic expression as she prepares a needle.

No!

Whatever Void wants to do with you,. you want no part in! You apply your massive strength against the restraints, hearing the crack of steel and stone as you try to free yourself. Void smiles at you as you twist and turn, holding her dreadfully long needle at the ready as you try to buck the straps. Then, suddenly, the chair breaks free and you try to make a run for it! You get approximately five steps down the hallway before a sickeningly sweet smell filters through your nose. Wait...you've smelled this before!

"Ah, do you feel it? This is my Definitely-Not-Sleeping-Alone Toxin. While I'm not planning to make any special use of you, I think it will let me take this sample all the same."

Damn! You can feel your limbs losing their strength, and the world is enveloped in a rosy haze. You try to break free, but all your limbs can do is flop uselessly. Void crouches down next to you and gives you an evil grin.

"Since you're in this position, I suppose I have no choice but to take my sample from somewhere else..."

You feel a pinch at your buttocks, and it quickly grows into a searing jab. She's going straight to the bone! With no anesthetic!

"Just bite your lip and bear it. I'm sure you'll have someone to kiss it and make it better once I'm done, you damn player."

Void jabs the needle in further, piercing your bone. You'd cry out, but this damn toxin is making moving rather difficult. On top of that, you're feeling rather cheerful despite the pain...Damn Void. So this is how she gets her dates...

--

You shake Void around, rattling her brains as you let loose your anger on her. It seems a toxin of that level only works against a Chimera for a few minutes. Now that you're free, you've taken to returning all her abuse. You're halfway tempted to slap or spank her, but you think that would be more male attention than she's gotten in months, and she doesn't deserve that.

You calm yourself for a moment and set the poor woman down. Before you turn her into paste, you suppose you should figure out what she stuck a needle in your butt for.

"Can't I just be into that?"

You crack your knuckles. Void grows pale and looks away.

"I needed a sample of bone marrow. Since it seems your tissues has mutagenic properties on certain Overed, we needed to get a stronger sample than just some blood. Your marrow was a clear choice! If you knew anything about Renegade research, you'd know that I didn't have a choice."

Then why draw marrow through your butt? Surely the thigh would be better. Void zips her mouth shut and looks the other way.

"Just a personal interest..."

You clench your jaw so tight you can feel your teeth crack. This woman...

--

You wipe the blood off your fingers and sit down in your chair, letting Claire and Void take their seats beside and opposite you, respectively.

"So we'd like to start a program, Wild Card."

You raise your eyebrow at Yugo's words.

"If you're okay with it, we'd like to begin limited trials using your tissues to test the Mimicry effect. It will take some time for Shining Void to produce a safe and controlled extract of course..."

Why would someone from the UGN want this? Aren't they against this sort of thing? Yugo chuckles.

"We want to better integrate humanity and the Overed. To do that, we need to have a better understanding of the Renegade virus. We can't do that without some experiments. I assure you, everyone involved will be volunteers."

You look to Claire, who seems pensive. She notices your gaze and returns it, stroking her side-tail idly.

You give up.

Sure. Okay. They can do whatever they want. It doesn't make much of a difference to you anyway. Yugo laughs and reaches over to pat you on the shoulder.

"That's the spirit, my boy! You might have just made a big difference in our understanding of this Renegade. You'll be in history books one day, I'm sure of it!"

You seriously doubt that. As you get up, Claire takes your hand and begins to pull you aside. You object at first, but her insistence is different from usual. It's more firm, less playful. You figure whatever she might have on her mind must be serious business.

"I've taking what you've said to heart, Darling. You're not the type to be satisfied unless you are the alpha male in both word and deed, yes?"

You never said anything like that.

"I know. It's fine to be shy about such things. Male romance is also about being the strongest, after all. Then, with your leave, I have readied something special for you."

Claire leads you through the Academy to a heavy, steel door. Multiple bolts lock it in place, and you can detect the smell of blood from beyond it. Claire stands in front of the door and puts a hand to her chest.

"You want to prove yourself as a man, to show you are above me, to put me in my place. While to a degree, I find this unnecessary...I would love you anyway...I know that your pride will not accept anything less. Therefore, to give you the confidence you need to finally push me down and make me bear your children, I have obtained special permission to use this vault. If you wish to grow stronger, the path lies through here."

True, telling Claire to get in the kitchen would be "asserting our dominance" as she wants.
>>
Just what is this place? Why can you smell blood?

"As expected of you," Claire closes her eyes and nods, "Even through these doors, you can smell the battlefield that is to come. Behind these doors lies one hundred Germs."

Germs? Claire points at the door, all of her normal jovial aura fading away. The air grows cold, and you can almost see her arms trembling.

"Yes, Germs. The UGN often tries to capture Germs alive, them preserve them in stasis for the day that they might be cured. But these Germs are different. These are men and women who have willingly thrown away their humanity to chase after their desires. Many of them are too strong to keep in a normal cell..." She crosses her arms and looks at the door, "So we lock them in with each other, to spend their days killing and devouring each other, over and over again. I won't lie to you, Darling...these are powerful beasts."

Then why would she send you in there?

"If you wish to grow stronger, you can only do so by stimulating your Renegade. Your natural strength has carried you thus far, but if you truly wish to surpass me, you must conquer this room. Like I did."

Claire endured this? Just what kind of training did the Children's Unit go through? She looks away from you, her body growing stiff.

"I will not think less of you for turning away. There are other ways you can achieve mastery. But...I believe you can do this."

You look at locked passageway. The strong smell of blood fills your nose. You can taste the fear, the rage, and the insatiable hunger that lies beyond. You've never really fought a Germ before. Can you really handle something like that?

You'll do it. You don't care one way or another about being stronger than Claire but...something about this place calls out to you. You feel like you have to see for yourself what a Germ really is. Claire nods and puts her hand on a nearby panel. The dozens of locks release, and with a hiss, the door swings open.

"I will return for you in one hour. Please...stay sane until then."

You step through into the dark room, and you hear the door shut behind you. It takes a few moments, but your eyes adjust to the dimly lit space, and you feel your heart stop. You expected to see humans. Crazy, mindless humans, but humans nonetheless. But these...

Freakish limbs drag across the floor. Yawning mouths open up from torsos, biting down on the meat of a nearby carcass. Skin sloughing off to reveal a crystalline surface. Multiple heads, all carrying a different face. All these and more mark these monsters in bizarre and nonsensical combinations. Is this...is this what being a Germ does to you? No matter the powers they display, all of them are no longer anything resembling a human being.

Your breath catches in your throat, and you swallow. That one simple act draws their attention. Hundreds of glowing eyes in every hue lock onto you, and an unnatural scream tears through the room. They're on you!

[ENEMY SKILL ACTIVE]

From below you, a black shadow appears on the ground. Dozens of eyes open up, and teeth shoot up from the floor. A blood red spittle sprays across you as you leap towards the ceiling. Several dozen Germs are upon you in that instant, dragging you to the ground. Heat and cold, light and dark, even the weight of the world pulls you towards the gaping chasm on the floor. This too must be the form of a Germ...The inevitable end of all Overed. You were always scared of what might happen if you let yourself go, but this...
>>
>>34023066
You roar, throwing the Germs to the side as they tear off hunks of flesh. A few greedily stuff the morsels in their mouths, while others simply continue their advance towards you. The shadowy mouth on the ground follows your movements, its teeth scraping against your legs as you run. The walls, the ceiling...it doesn't matter where you try to run, the Germs are all over you, attempting to send you down into the abyss...

I wonder if Claire is breaching some kind of protocol doing this. Also: Looks like we're giving a bunch of Germs test material for the Mimicry effect. That seems ill-advised, and someone should probably know about that.

[ENEMY SKILL ACTIVE]

The Germs are coming for you, and you can do nothing but shield yourself from their onslaught. Their attacks whittle away your flesh, but your body holds. If you can just wait for an opening...

Pain tears through your legs as the jaws erupt from the floor and drag you down beneath the ground. Everything is darkness. There is no air, no light, no sound. You can feel your body tearing itself apart as the oxygen violently tries to escape your body. The eyes of the abyss open up, and from them, the hundred Germs pour out, floating through the void. Their misshapen arms grab at you, attempting to pull your limbs from their sockets. You can't move here, but neither can they! As their strength threatens to tear you apart, you return the favor, whipping out your arm. Your strength cleaves through their bodies with little resistance, but their bodies continue onwards, giving no regard to the loss of vital organs. You're not even sure they felt it.

With your body being ripped asunder from the inside and out, you struggle to think, to summon up some power within to fight them...

[ENEMY SKILL DEACTIVATED]

You snarl, lashing out with all four of your limbs, breaking out of the hold the Germs have put you in. With a flurry of blows, you scatter your enemies, shredding them and sending their entrails floating out into the darkness that has enveloped you. Seizing the clawed tentacle of one Germ, you rip it from its owners body and kick the unfortunate soul away. You throw the lifeless limb out through the mysterious eyes that pop in and out of the abyss, piercing it in a single toss. The tentacle draws tight as it latches onto something on the other side, and you pull yourself along, crawling up the tentacle and out of the punctured eye.

You jump from the floor, dragging the abyss with you. It pops free of the ground, forming a singular sphere of shadow that you grasp between your hands. With a shout, you rip it to pieces, letting the blood fall like rain on you and the remaining Germs.

[ENEMY SKILL ACTIVE]

The walls close in on you, ripping free from the structure to reveal more Germs flooding out from behind them, their grotesque forms already whipped into a frenzy by the torrent of blood you spill as you blow through them. The Germs from the walls move with a new purpose, stepping in line as the crumbling walls begin to hail down on you of their own accord. Behind the new group of Germs is an odd looking child, with three bulbous heads, leaking puss from their empty eye sockets. It wails and points its fingers at you, and the Germs respond in kind. The very room starts to warp under its cry, and you do your best to endure the pincer attack you find yourself in.

This feels like a delaying tactic of some sort, swamping us with disposable Germs and letting the walls fall on us, so smash right through everything.

>Enemy Skill Info: Deadly Dolls - This former Orcus Germ can call its mutated kin to attack in tandem with the environment. Any successful Tactic supplemented by this Skill gains double Advantage.
>Your Advantage: 2

As the walls close in on you, you reach out and snare them both in your hands. Holding them like oversized discs, you spin in place, slashing through then oncoming horde as you feel your muscles heat up and reinforce themselves over and over again. Each pass of the sheets cleaves another Germ in two and makes the next rotation that much faster. At the end of the room, the strange child Germ continues to scream, bloody pus puddling up on the ground as it shrieks. You're disgusted. Revolted. You can't stand to look at it anymore.

Your bones begin to shake, and your body reaches its limit. You release the walls, throwing them through the multitude of Germs at their young leader. The first slab sheers its legs out from under it, and the second crushes what remains of its body under the weight of steel and stone. But you can see its hand, still pointing at you from under the rubble. It twitches and flexes...the Germ is still alive.

The same goes for all the other Germs you've cut down. They just refuse to stay down. You can't keep this battle up forever, especially when you're on the defensive the entire time. If only you were faster, perhaps, you could keep up. If only you had some kind of trump card, maybe you could turn the tables...

Your moment of thought is interrupted by a blow to the back of your head. You spin around with your fist, and hit nothing but air. Before you can recover, another attack tears through your belly, spilling your innards onto the floor. This time, you manage a glimpse of it. A score of Germs, all circling around you at impossible speeds. You get up to chase them, but they all scream, throwing forward a wall of force that knocks you to the ground.
>>
>>34025075
[ENEMY SKILL ACTIVE]
You're wide open. You're completely vulnerable. And yet they don't attack. Their perfect formation, with no gaps or holes, continues to encircle you. You take in a breath and try to roll over, to get back up on your feet, but as you do so, your neck splits open. Blood sprays from your arteries and dizziness overcomes you...

I want to say Strike, once more. I don't think we'll be able to block this, and crash ain't working. So far, all that is working is offense.

That sid, obviously the correct answer is:

>Guard

This doesn't seem like a Crash, it's more like a combination between Guard and Strike, incredibly fast and precise counter-attacks.

>Enemy Skill Info: Vicious Gale - By synching up their primitive minds, the Germs can continue a defensive pattern, even after an onslaught. After Guarding this exchange, any Tactic used on the next Exchange also counts as a Guard.

You lie on the ground, bleeding out. You don't want to lose to these damn things but...what can you do? You're not fast enough to escape them, and any move you make is going to be tossed aside. Damn it. Damn it! You just need more power. If only you could just...

You open your mouth to shout, furious at your own powerlessness. What escapes your lips is not the cry of a frustrated man, but an ear-splitting, bloodthirsty howl. You're pushed into the floor by the force of your cry, and you can see the air warp and ripple as you scream. The Germs around you are thrown up into the air for a split second, but a split second is all you need. They seem so slow now. So clumsy. Before you know it, you're on your feet, running towards them faster than you've ever moved. The muscles in your legs feel like they're about to burst, but you pay it no mind. You blow through one Germ, ripping out the inhuman organs from its chest. As another touches down, it blurs towards you, but you're ready for it. With your newfound speed, you're able to keep up with it, trading blows as you take out Germ after Germ. Your body is breaking, but you can't stop now. The blood bursts from your veins as you slam your fist into a warped face. Your chest collapses as you bodycheck another into a wall.
>>
>>34026076
The rusty puddles grow larger and larger as more guts are thrown into the air. Your rampage won't abate. You'll keep going faster. You fly through the air and deliver a headbutt to one last Germ, caving in its skull as you rip its limbs out. The room is silent and still. Entrails paint every surface. You take one last gasp as your vision begins to blur. A voice reaches your ears.

"Marvelous. Simply marvelous, Subject One..."

You try to focus, but it's too late. The door opens and you see Claire cautiously step inside. All of your strength leaves your body, and you slump down onto the pile of bodies.

Did...did you make it?
