Characters and Gunpla: http://pastebin.com/e16JZdXs

You are JACK FOULKE, an amateur Gunpla Fighter with dreams to make your own mark on the Gunpla battle scene!

You've just come off a big win against Team Noscope, which means that your own team was now in the top four in the school rankings. What this meant was that your team would be eligible to participate in a special tournament for a special entry into the Gunpla Battle World Tournament!

However, that was something to worry about another day. Today was Saturday, which mean you had an entire weekend of doing stuff that didn't involve schoolwork! Later today, you and the rest of the team would be going over to Charlotte's house for a party, but until then, you pretty much had a lot of free time.

Charlotte was currently busy, out at the qualifiers. Today they should be finishing up the semifinals, if you remembered correctly.

Over the course of the quest, they've:
Saved Garma
Make Hamburger not die
Played a basketball game against the Black Tri-star, in Mobile Suits
Almost killed the White Devil (But we made him upgrade to the Solomon Express monster)
Outed Ghiren and created a civil war between the factions of Zeon

You decide to watch the qualifiers. Might as well, since you had nothing better to do. You flip on the TV and flip to ESPN. However, it's apparently a bit early, as all you see is just a few anchors doing their regular pregame discussions. You tune them out, as they usually just keep repeating each other until the matches actually started, and you take out your new Jesta Juggler. It was still scratched up from the previous fight, but it was mostly cosmetic and fixable. Really, the most damage your suffered was having one Ball and your Chobham shield destroyed.

"OOOOOOOH, whatcha doing?!" Holly's head peeks over your shoulder. "Tinkering with your Jesta?"

"More or less." You shrug.

"How's the GN Drive working on it?"

"Pretty good, actually." You say. "Thankfully, I haven't found the need to use it in an actual battle yet."

"I see, I see." Holly then gasps when she sees your wrecked Dakka Ball. "HOW COULD YOU!?"

"Couldn't be helped." You sigh.

Dock them until it's out of the game, then back to remote shenanigans. Make a discardable heavy turret Ball we drag by hand. Create a Psycommu jammer Ball. Stuff them with enough Psycoframe to overpower the Unicorn (probably will result in hax one way or another). Create an option where the Balls only accept new commands when in contact with the main suit, overriden only when docked. Tons of options.

"Ball Recall sounds pretty rad." You say. "I can already think of all the things I could do with that."

"Ohoh, but I thought you were into girls~." Holly chuckles.

"No, Holly. No." You flick her in the forehead.

"Ow!" Holly whimpers.

"All right, and the semifinals have started!" You hear the announcer yell from the TV. "First up is none other than GRECO LOGAN! One of the current favorites for the American qualifiers!"

"And his opponent here is REBECCA DAKKMEN." The other announcer says. "A relative newcomer, she first appeared last year, didn't she?"

"You got that right, but she didn't even make it quarterfinals that time!" The first announcer nods.

"Well, seems like she got good. Now let's compare their Gunpla!"

The screen then shifted to a computer generated graphic showing off what you recognize as the Tallgeese Valkyrie and, more surprisingly, that GM Sniper from Team Noscope!

"Well, we all know the good ol' Tallgeese Valkyrie here!" The first announcer says. "So how does the other Gunpla match up?"

"Well, the GM Sniper Longbow uses a high power railgun instead of a beam sniper rifle. A lot less efficient in my opinion, but hits like a truck! But really, Rebecca here's REALLY got the art of the ambush down. I none of her matches did she take any actual damage, and only ever fired one shot!"

"So, then it's the experienced veteran versus a talented newcomer! Who do you think is going to win?"

"Well, if you want my opinion, my money is on the Longbow here. Greco's good, but as we've seen the past few years, he clearly struggles against opponents he's never really fought before."

"I dunno. It doesn't seem like Rebecca here is on the level of Nils Nielsen, though. Greco's been extremely strong this year, and I think he's got this in the bag."

"I think the Tallgeese Valkyrie is going to win." You say. "I fought the Longbow, and unless it's got anything that can keep the distance between itself and the Valkyrie, it's toast. That's how I got it, and I'm pretty sure the Valkyrie is WAAAAY faster than my Jesta."

"Hm, I guess." Holly shrugs as she continues her work.

And then the fight finally begins. You see both Gunpla spawn in the asteroid field. Huge chunks of rock littered the area, which gave the Longbow an advantage since it had plenty of places to hide.

The Valkyrie already goes off at maximum speed, no doubt believing that speed would be the best defense against the Longbow's long range sniping. However, even with that speed, it still managed to weave effortlessly through the rocks. Suddenly, there's a flash of light, and one of the asteroids next to the Valkyrie explodes, sending shards of rock flying everywhere.

"She missed." Holly frowned.

"No she didn't." You shake your head. "She deliberately aimed for that asteroid. I think she knows she can't hit the Valkyrie at full speed."

"But what's the point?" Holly asks.

"She's basically turning those asteroids into huge frag grenades." You point the screen, where another asteroid explodes. The Valkyrie raises its shield as it's showered with high speed rock shrapnel, denting and scratching its dark green armor. Sure, the damage was minimal, but it was just slowly building up.

"So, instead of ending things in one shot, she's trying to bleed him out through attrition?" Holly asked.

"Yep. Any good fighter should be able to change their strategy on the fly." You nod.

(cont)
>>
>>34172225
More and more shots lance out at the Valkyrie, as it tries to dodge, but each shot is masterful. Even if it missis the Valkyrie, each shot simply demolishes a nearby asteroid, further pelting it with rocks. You can see one of its rocket thrusters get knocked out of alignment from a particularly large chunk.

However, it looked like Greco had had enough. You see the Valkyries shield glow blue as he puts all of its energy into its boosters. He flies forward, shield up as he comes up against a large asteroid. At first you think that it's going to splatter itself against the rock, but the shield actually impacts the asteroid and shatters it like glass. In fact, it starts plowing through asteroids like they were nothing, making a straight beeline for the Longbow's position. You see the Longbow not move. Since the Valkyrie was moving in a straight line, that meant Rebecca could easily predict where it would move. You see the Longbow fire its railgun, and the hypersonic round zips through space right at the Valkyrie's shield. You remember what it did to your Chobham shield and expect to see the Valkyrie's shield suffer the same fate.

However, you see the railgun round freeze right as it impacts the Valkyrie's shield. For a brief second, you see it suspended in space, before it shoots back exactly the way it came. Rebecca barely has any time to react, and leaps away from her hiding spot. However, the reflected railgun round snaps her rifle in two. The Valkyrie then closes in for the kill. The Longbow takes out dual beam spray pistols and tries to use them to take down the Valkyrie, but it effortlessly avoids the worst of the damage and slices a diagonal cut across the Longbow's torso, ending the fight.

"Huh, I guess you were right." Holly blinked.

Yeah, you guess you were. But what the hell was that thing the Valkyrie just did...?

Yeah, you really can't figure out what the fuck just happened there. All you know is that it was probably some sort of plavsky hack, as you don't recall the Tallgeese ever being capable of doing something like that.

"And there we go! Greco Logan once again makes it the final bracket for the qualifiers! Will he make it to the World Tournament? We'll find out soon!" The announcer says happily. "Now let's move on to our next fight, Charlotte Rafale and her Krimson Kampfer, against Jesse Bellman and his Destiny Blade!"

"So who do you think is going to win this one?" The second announcer asks.

"Charlotte Rafale, no question. She's been absolutely DOMINATING the qualifiers."

"I agree. She's got so much momentum behind her I don't see how she's not going to be facing Greco Logan in the final bracket!"

The scene then cuts to a cityscape. You see a fairly stock Destiny Gundam charging at the Krimson Kampfer. Oddly enough, you don't see the Kampfer attempt to maneuver or dodge. The Destiny tries to swing its giant sword in a decapitating strike, but the Kampfer easily catches and hooks the blade with one of its heat axes. It then pulls out its second heat axe and slams it right into the Destiny Blade's head, splitting it in half. The Destiny Blade goes limp and topples to the ground.

Yeah, you were kinda expecting that to happen.

"Done!" Holly says happily, handing you your newly repaired and upgraded Jesta.

"Thanks a lot, Holly." You grin and ruffle her hair, eliciting a little giggle from her.

Now that you think about it, with the qualifiers done for the day, that meant Charlotte would be heading home right about now.

"Anyways, Dad, what was battling like in your day?" You ask.

"Ah, well," Dad gets a rather nostalgic look on his face. "It was pretty much the Wild West back then. Gunpla battling was still pretty new and people were still trying to figure out the full potential of the sport. Back then, people were less willing to experiment like the battlers of today are. Everybody mostly stuck with stock builds, and there was a lot more emphasis on player skill over Gunpla quality."

"So I guess you're disappointed that everything's all about the most powerful Gunpla you can get?" You ask.

"Well, yes and no." Dad frowns. "On the one hand, as one of the guard, I do sort of see the over reliance on trump cards to be a huge crutch for less skilled players. But, on the other hand, you're generally seeing a lot more innovation and creativity. I mean, nobody imagined the sort of things plavsky particles were capable of before builders and fighters like Nils Nielsen and Sei Iori came along. In fact, I think the sport got MORE exciting!"

"Really?" You ask.

"Oh, no doubt. Now you're never too sure what the Gunpla you're fighting is really capable of!" Dad chuckles. "Plus, change is good. If there were never any change, then the sport would stagnate and people would lose interest."

"I guess you have the point there." You nod and then turn punch Holly in the shoulder. "Punch buggy!"

"Ow!" Holly yelps. "I thought we went over this! Nobody drives beetles anymore! Hell, I don't think they even make those anymore!"

"Nuh uh, I totally saw one." You shake your head.

"I'm Googling it right now, Jack." Holly whips out her phone. "I'll show you!"

Heh, she was so easy to mess with.

"Now now, Jack, don't tease your sister like that." Dad sighs.

It's an Ace Combat thing.
Specifically Ace Combat Zero's "Ace Styles".
>Those who seek strength.
Mercernary. Ruthless, you get this in AC0 by shooting down escaping enemies, blowing up random shit, basically just causing maximum carnage.
>Those who live for pride.
Knight. "Muh honor", you get it by letting enemies who've rabbited from the fight go, minimizing collateral damage, pretty much doing the opposite of the Mercenary.
>Those who can read the tide of battle.
Soldier. The middle of the road path, pragmatic but professional. Probably the hardest to maintain in AC0 because you have to play a constant balancing act, rather than just going ham, or restraining yourself from engaging yellow targets.

"Have you ever had a rival dad? You know, like me and Charlotte are?" You ask.

"I wish I had a cute girl as a rival!" Dad laughs. "But yes, I did have a rival back in the day. He was the only guy who could ever consistently beat me."

"What was he like?" You ask.

"Oh, pretty mysterious." Dad shrugged. "I never really got his name, either. He'd just show up at the hobby store and play a few games from time to time. Really damn good at it, too, and with a base RX-78-2."

"Really?" You blink.

"Yep. Everybody just called him Demon Lord. He even gave Ral a run for his money the one time they fought!" Dad chortled. "That's one I'll never forget. I wish you were there to have seen it!"

"What happened to him?" You ask.

"Don't know." Dad sighed. "One day, he just went out he door and never came back. Oh, we all had our theories. Some though he just moved out of town, others think he died or suffered some sort of accident."

"And what do YOU think?"

"Me? I think he's still out there, doing what he loves." Dad smiles nostalgically. "Yeah, he's definitely alive. I know it."

At this point, the car finally arrives at the front gate to Charlotte's house.

"Dang." Dad whistled. "That's no house, son, that's no house!"

"Yeah, it's totally a castle." You nod.

"It looks even bigger during the day!" Holly gasped.

Huh, and it looks like somebody arrived here before you did.

Of course, it was Lucina. Ungodly early as usual. You sort of suspected she got here in the morning and was just waiting his whole time. It would certainly fit her character.

"Hey, Lucina." You wave, deciding not to make a big scene of it.

"Hi, Jack." Lucina waves oh. "Oh, hello, Holly!"

"Yo!" Holly rushes forward and hugs Lucina.

"All right, just give me a call when you want you get picked tomorrow!" Dad says from the car and gives you a wink. "Have fun, son, but not too much fun!"

"Dad..." You sigh and roll your eyes as he drives away, chortling all the way.

"Did he say something wrong?" Lucina blinks, missing the joke.

"Yeah, what's the matter?" Holly asks.

"Nevermind." You shake your head.

"Anyways, how are things going?" You look around. "Actually, how exactly did you get here?"

"I walked." Lucina shrugged.

"What." Holly blinked. "It was like, a twenty minute DRIVE here!"

"Well, my parents have always stressed the importance of staying in shape." Lucina says. "Actually, I was kind of taking it easy today. Please don't tell my parents that."

"Um, I won't." You sigh. "Anyways, that school competition is coming up. You think we're up for it?"

"Hm last I checked, we haven't decided who was going to participate." Lucina frowned.

"Well, I guess that's something we can take care of when everybody else gets here." You say. "Anything else going on at school?"

"I keep getting recruitment offers from other teams." Lucina shrugs. "It's really getting rather troublesome."

"I would've thought they'd be too intimidated to approach you." You remark.

"What makes you say that?" Lucina blinks.

"Um, no reason." You backpedal.

"HEY GUUUUUUUYS!" You hear a loud and very familiar voice.

You can see Jake pedaling up on a bicycle, with Amy sitting on the back and waving furiously.

"Aw man, are we early?" Amy blinked. "Dang! I was trying to arrive just at the nick of time!"

"For the last time, Amy." Jake sighed. "If you you don't know when exactly Charlotte is going to come, it's literally impossible to time your arrival like that."

"Nonsense! A hero always knows when to make a dynamic entrance!" Amy pouts, and then turns to you. "Hi Jack, Hi Lucina, Hi Holly! Looks like you guys beat us here!"

"Heh, a hero? You look more like a princess being escorted by a chauffeur." You grin.

"H-hey!" Amy mumbles. "That's not it at all!"

"I'm just teasing you!" You laugh. "Anyways, you catch the qualifier battles today?"

"Course we did!" Amy bounces up and down happily. "It was SUPER exciting! That GM Sniper was like ZAP ZAP ZAP while Greco Logan's Tallgeese was going ZOOM, BAM, and POW!"

Throughout all this she was making all these crazy gestures in the air in an attempt to mimic the Gunplas' movements, albeit pretty badly. You and Holly try and fail to hold in your laughter while Lucina and Jake look on, more puzzled than anything.

Another care then pulls up and stops in front of the gate. Karen steps out of the back seat.

"Thank you father. I'll call you when I need to be picked up." She says as she closes the door and turns back to you all. "Hello everyone. I see we're almost all here already."

"WAAAAIIIIT!"

Of course, Mac would be the last one of you to arrive, excluding Charlotte.

"Aw man, I thought you guys were gonna go in without me!" Mac pants.

"Did you... did you just RUN all the way here?" Holly gasps.

"What? No, I'd die less than a quarter mile in!" Mac shakes his head. "Nah, my parents dropped me off on the WRONG DAMN STREET. Had to run three entire blocks to get here!"

"Such misfortune." You say with a bemused look on your face.

"Hey, don't get cute with me." Mac manages to muster a scowl in between breaths.

Hardly seconds later, another car pulls up to the gate. From how shiny and fancy it was, you had no doubt it was Charlotte's.

"I AM SO SORRY!" Charlotte said as she poked her head out of the window. "Traffic was SOOOOOOO BAD!"

"It's no problem." You laugh. "We weren't waiting that long!"

Charlotte leads you all up the driveway, which was WAY LONGER than any driveway had any right to be, before arriving at the front of her mansion proper. Charlotte's driver opened the giant oak doors on the front and motioned for you to come inside to a massive, marble atrium with a crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling.

Everybody is absolutely speechless.

"Justice!"

"Justice!"

"Okay. I get it. It echoes. Just please stop." Charlotte sighs.

"Charlotte, just what exactly do your parents DO?" You ask.

"Well, um." Charlotte scratches her head. "Construction and real estate, mostly. My dad owns and builds all sorts of stuff. Like, you know that stadium that holds the Gunpla World Tournament? My dad built that."

"Really? I thought your parents didn't like Gunpla." You say.

"They don't. Business is business, and that stadium was billions of dollars in contracts" Charlotte shrugs. "Anyways, enough about that. What do you guys wanna do? I got a pool, a game room, and a theater room."

"POOL PARTY!" Both Holly and Amy yell.

"Yeah, sure, pool party." You agree.

"Yessssss!" Mac fist bumps Jake in quietly in the back.

Lucina just nods and Karen has a bemused look on her face.

"Uh, yeah, sure, we can do that." Charlotte nods. "We'll just move over to the pool house, then."

Charlotte leads you all out the back door, where you see the biggest, bluest pool that you've ever seen. Easily Olympic size. However, the only thing that outdid the pool itself was the "pool house", which was bigger than most actual houses.

"So, yeah, make yourselves at home." Charlotte nods.

You swear her parents had to be drug dealers or something. Of course, you don't say that out loud.

>>
>>34178322

I mean, the players were equally to blame, constantly taking options that actively AVOIDED interacting with certain characters because they were afraid of routelocks. It was kind of a self fulfilling prophecy there.

Okay, not the asshole here. I'll admit I was sphincter-sizzled when it happened, but I just quietly left, rather than be a fag about it. Anyone wanna give me the Cliff's Notes on how VMQ2 ended? I haven't gone back to read the rest of it in the archives, and if it all went down in flames because of butthurt faggots then I don't really wanna slog through that.
>>
>>34178596
Nah, Merc managed to get it to a decent ending. Most of the butthurt readers just moved on and that was it.
>>
>>34178659

Did Falynn die? Please tell me Falynn died. A good death of course, but still...
>>
>>34178665
No, she lived.

But near the end it was pretty clear everybody, even Merc, was getting tired of the VMQ setting.
>>
>>34178659
it's still a mystery how/why VMQ2 got hit with so many waifufaggots when it never happened with VMQ1 (or his other stories after wards)

>>34178665
nope but she finally lost that damn flaw but even worse news (I presume): she won.
>>
>>34178679
or just the raging waifushitstorm that was VMQ2 as he tried some shorts but for whatever reasons they didn't have as much steam. In short waifufaggots killed the setting.
>>
>>34178682
VMQ1 had only two real options, and generally everybody liked both of them to varying degrees.
VMQ2 on the other hand had a bunch of different options, and Falynn pissed a LOT of people off by being such an annoying damsel-in-distress character for so long. She probably could have won me over if we'd actually gotten to see her follow through on wanting to get past it BEFORE getting routelocked to her.
>>34178682
>she finally lost that damn flaw
See if she stopped being so god damned useless, I can accept it.
