Welcome back to the old west Gnome Civilization!. Previously, a group of 60 gnome settlers arrived on the western coast. Settling into a town located under a floating island attached by vines. A primitive steam tank is invented and used to eradicate some totally peaceful, you guys are monsterstrolls. The children are taken and put to work in the mines and as heavy labor. Improved hot air balloons are built and used to reach the island. A land of giants, insects carry away rabbits and sequoias break the sky. Batteries are made, and used for nothing really. A new, better forge is build in the camp, making use of the bessemer process. The golden axe taken from the trolls is researched and a female gnome starts to learn the magic rune language.

Retcon: The axe runes spell out "WHITE HEAT BLADE NEED", not "WHITE HEAT BLADE HEAL"

Someone in the last thread suggested I add some gods and history, choose one god to act as the guardian deity for the gnomes.

>Ehlonna: The goddess of nature, animals, and fertility. Her worship grants her followers increased fertility and better hunting and gathering. However, they must remain in balance with nature, meaning no clear cutting forests, or overhunting.

>Garl Glittergold: God of gnomes, Garl smiles on his gnome followers and gives them many boons. Precious metals seem draw to them, worming their way into the ground near gnome camps. Garl asks for one extravagant temple per town and a festival each fall.(this costs one turn each twelve, you can do nothing else in this turn)

>Flandal Steelskin: God of mining, smithing, and fitness. The worshipers of him become pioneers in the field of metalwork. All techs containing metals get a bonus to rolls. His followers also slowly grow to peak fitness for gnomes, lifting 150 pounds. Flandal asks for an arena with gladiators and war games to study tactics. The followers gain a fear of the ocean and large bodies of water.(This gets penalties to sailing or submarines, due to the fear in the crew)

Trolls have regenerative powers, so we can experiment endlessly with inserting electrodes into their brains in pursuit of mind control. I elect to use our battery to research that.

The winter months seem to be ending, leaving slush and puddles on the ground. The gnome emerge and meet in the central square. The larders are slowly emptying and the ore in the forges are running low. Milto announces that the town must...

the fact that we are in the old west doesn't seem to have sunk in. In the modern day, with perfect equipment and years of research, this stuff is unfeasible. In a lot more threads with lots of medical research, you could do this

The idea of an outpost on the island has the inventors working on all kinds of projects. One idea, a means of communication through electricity is met with some success. A five foot copper wire is made and connected to a voltaic pile and two small needles. As the wire is touched to the pile, sparks appear between the two needles. With a system for making the sparks mean something and a long enough wire, you could talk to someone from the ground up to the island.

Rolled 2

The spring has arrived and with it, more children. The most notable, is the troll child from the breeding pair. Looks like our labor force just grew a huge amount. The male troll guards his mate against their handlers, reminding everyone of the danger the great beasts pose. However, work must go on. A plow and harness are made to fit the large male. Wild goosefoot was collected and sprouted in a wet cloth. The fields outside of the camp are fertile(judging from all the grasses and weeds) and ready to be tilled.

The handlers throw water through the chimneys, wetting down the hard earthen floor. Embers and flaming boughs are thrown between the adult trolls, forcing them apart. The great beasts, as tall as three or four men, rear back from the flaming line in their home. Barred cages are opened and pulled forward by pulleys. The trolls trip back into the iron traps.

The bars are shook by both adults, having forgotten the small creature that caused this. The beasts crash again and again against the bars, bending them with their rocky forms. Pulling one bar off, the male squeezes through opening and bursts out the stable into the woods. The mother soon follows, running off the cliff in pursuit of freedom. The crash of the broken rocks in the surf split the sky, as the troll walks south towards the unknown

Ignoring the escaped trolls, the woman,(name), tries to learn more of the strange magical language. Falling asleep at her desk, she dreams of the strange letters flying abd shifting around her. When she wake, (name) finds herself with a small chisel, a bowl of molten gold, and the bones of a deer in front of her. Her hands move on their own, chipping cloying symbols into the rib cage and skull. Lifting the molten gold, she pours the metal onto the bones. Bizarrely, the gold warps in the air, following the magic glyphs cut into the bones. The gold rapidly cools, leaving the deer skeleton with golden filigree spinning around its ribs. The glyphs upon the head glow with a ghostly golden shimmer, lighting the orbital sockets and antlers. The deer skeleton slowly kneels before (name)

Noticing the lack of food in the larder, Milto sends out more men in search of farmable plants. They return to see their friends driving a repurposed steamwagon pulling a complex iron machine. The machine was pulling up the earth, then followed by women and children carrying baskets. The people pulled small metal nuggets from the field, before scattering the last of the seed into the ground. The fresh plants and wild animals that were taken are quickly put in the food storage. First the animals were deboned, leaving (insert name) with all the skeletons she needs. The ostrichhorse bones seem to delight the woman.
