Stage 27: Culture Shock, Shocking Cultures, and other dichotomies.

[x] “It's not really all that complex, it's very simple.” Ohanu means family, and- wait, that was that other movie. Well, anyways....
[x] “It won't take long for things to become clear, onee-sama.” She can see for herself in a day or two.
[x] “Certainly.” They're already in control of the love life so it's fine.

Having a dinnertime discussion with your sister after you've had a fight with her – your first real disagreement really – is somewhat touchy. Not because you're afraid of offending or troubling her again, as much as it is that Water dragonettes and dragonnes are subtle, clever, and capable of inferring much more than what is said in the conversation. On the one hand, you can make yourself clear with just a few words and a simple act of eating or drinking. On the other hand (because you have one now) you can reveal things you had not intended to her and infer things you probably didn't want to know about your sister's feelings.

Hebe Yumiko, your sister's Void dragonette secretary, Ryuu Akari, Ryuu Yui, and Kumatori Kiki are also eating with you. Akari, who has pointed out to your sister that you will take care of all problems domestic and external with the same skill and capability as you have shown so far, is also trying to get her oni-chick lover to relax. Yui seems to have seen tense dinners before and it's put her off her appetite, which means she's under amounts of stress no one should have to deal with. Kiki-hime is slightly bemused, as is Yumiko-san, since your conversation with your sister is more a thing of subtlety and innuendo, and there are different layers to it. They're only hearing a third of the conversation.

Oba-san built the secret language of Clan Ryo out of Water dragonette conversation.
>>
>>34229422
You finish your sake and poor some more for your sister, then yourself, and then add a little to Akari's tea. Akari's commentary on your situation was more than just accurate, you couldn't have said it better yourself, and this lets Jinyuu-onee-sama know it. “While it seems complex, the truth of the matter is that it is very simple, onee-sama.” You pick up the wide cup and gesture to your trio of loved ones. “A family is not a terribly complex thing. If one listens to those around them, then the chances of making a mistake against them lessens dramatically. My whole family consists of those who understand their places in the world very well, even when they have started off in places that were not really meant for them.”

Taking a sip of the sake, you lower your cup to the table, but don't quite set it down, supporting it with your hand. “Even as I protect them, they support me, and their support enables me to take on increasingly more dire problems. I rely on them to tell me the things I need to know, just as they expect me to take care of those things they are concerned by.” Nothing is stable without support, just as the cup in your hand is more stable than unsupported. “It becomes more and more clear as one takes the time to observe how well we work together.” Jinyuu-onee-sama might be worried about your love life, but she'll have to see for herself.
>>
>>34229474

“Besides,” you murmur, “the ones who are really keeping things stable in my home are the ones who live in my home, not me.” You salute Akari, who lifts her cup, and Yui blinks and looks a little confused, though less uptight. You give Kiki-hime a salute as well, and a wink, and she lifts her cup with a soft, “Kompai.” It is true though – if they were less secure, cared less about each other, were less concerned with how they thought of each other, it would be a lot more difficult to love them freely. They have more control over your love life than you do, in the end, and their happiness is what really makes it all worthwhile.

Your sister looks away from you and back at her food, and slowly takes a few bites, letting you finish the sake and also eat. You're feeling much better already, and definitely energized.

“I have other concerns as well, Aka-chan, of course, though that was one which seemed to be the most pressing.” She sets her chopsticks down and looks at you. You lower your chopsticks, but do not set them down, demonstrating your willingness to address whatever her concerns may be without making the situation more tense or formal. Calmly returning her gaze, you can see the hardness in her eyes, the suggestion of a menace not to be dismissed, whether or not she means to be the menace.

“You are growing so quickly. You are nearly a woman now, not a child. How will you deal with the fact that you will have no children to pass the family skills to if you do not marry?”
>>
>>34229496
While most people would presume she's talking about your preference for lilies, nothing could be further from the truth. Firstly, you can have children despite the fact you are female and regardless of how your family likes to cal you the male version of boss. In fact, you will be having children, for that matter, as Kiki-hime is already carrying your child. The 'family skills' of Clan Ryo aren't something that are passed from 'father' to 'son' in the slightest, any spirit-child can be taught them. As for marriage....technically, you have married your family as one. You have rings to prove it, really. So the question she asked isn't the question she's actually asking.

No, Jinyuu is asking how you plan on taking on the entirety of Clan Ryo without the power of Horobi: before you have grown into a 'woman' you do not have 'the children' to support you outside of 'marrying into a family' is the same as asking how you will deal with not having the resources of a clan or the power of Horobi to protect your few people, who cannot measure in comparison to the resources of a true clan.

Which is an excellent question.

[] If I have to take on the power of Horobi, I will.
[] My family is the equal of Clan Ryo in power if not in numbers, because of their diversity.
[] You hurt me with your lack of faith, but I understand your concern.

Brief reminder: During the talk with Jinyuu-onee-sama I will phrase Ryukusa's responses in Water dragonette doublespeak (and be paying sepcial attention to write in and clever responses from players) without the players needing to be so convoluted in their own thinking. I'll also translate Water dragonspeak for the players ~as Ryukusa understands it~.

[XX] My family is the equal of Clan Ryo in power if not in numbers, because of their diversity.
[] You hurt me with your lack of faith, but I understand your concern.
[XXX] Together we've already accomplished things that should not have been possible.
[XX] Be more clear, onee-sama....are you saying that I should take over another Clan?

You twirl your chopsticks before spearing a dumpling and dipping it in a few sauces, eating thoughtfully as you turn from your sister's hard look. She lowers her eyes as well, allowing you the time to consider her complex question seriously. As you both eat, Kiki-hime asks Yumiko-san how long she's been working for Jinyuu-onee-sama at the Fortunetelling business, picking up on your need for a moment to think, possible through her Wood Eyes. You'll have to ask her about what she saw with them later.

Yui is still somewhat distressed, but she begins eating again, slowly but at least she is eating. Akari's hand remains on her thigh, and you strongly suspect her tail is coiled around Yui's ankle, while yours is still wrapped with your....well, wife's. Miko-Kiku-chan said she might be able to make a ceremony for you later. You'll have to ask again.

As the others make small talk, you consider the situation. It looks like your elder sister really thinks Oba-san might mobilize the whole clan's resources against you. You don't see it as likely, mainly because Oba-san is a sort of god-creature, a kamuy, which means she's not allowed to interfere as directly as all that lest other kamuy become involved. Which they have, but so far indirectly. While the small talk draws to a close, and you finish most of what's on your plate, you relax in your chair, and pour yourself more sake, casually.
>>
Demonstrating your lack of concern for the situation she presents, you speak up. Kiki-hime has left the conversation at a point concerning family and arranged marriages (her own, as a matter of fact) allowing you to step in easily. “The fact that I am only nearly a woman is unimportant, really. There isn't a man who could measure up to one fifth of one of my loved ones, I would rely more upon them and treat them as my children before I rely upon marriage to fulfill me.” Who needs the unpredictable entirety of a clan when you have the reliable love of your family?

Despite what you say, you squeeze Kiki-hime's tail firmly, to reassure her, and she blushes a little as you turn to her and stroke her hair, fingertips brushing her horn. She blushes quite deeply, as does Yumiko-san, who is starting to look between Kiki and yourself, as well as Akari and Yui in a much different manner; when she actually takes notice of the rings, and the difference in yours to theirs, she blushes very deeply indeed. Apparently she wasn't quite familiar with your preference for lilies. Naturally, you don't need to explain your comments to Jinyuu; the diversity and skills of your loved ones are far, far greater than anyone gives them credit for, to their loss.

You sip your sake, and swirl the bowl slowly. “Even if I were to marry, it would be a marriage in name only. Really, who could compare to the beauty and warmth and the strength of these young women? I can't imagine anyone in Clan Ryo doing so – and Clan Kaga is an even more ridiculous proposition. Even if Kiki-hime were a man and I married into Hojo Bumon, everything they could give me pales into insignificance, just as the gifts they sent you and I have.” Now you look at your sister, your expression calm.
>>
>>34230328
With the help of your loved ones you defeated two demigods sent by Hojo, despite their power and resources; Clan Ryo and Clan Kaga are powerful, yet you've managed to flip them the finger without either knowing how much they've been flipped off.

Jinyuu-onee-sama looks back at you, her expression slightly worried now. Despite her concern you continue. “Unless you have a suggestion for someone to make an arranged marriage with? After all, such things are not quite as much your forte as the future, but perhaps if you have a suggestion I might look deeper into it.” Not entirely a slap, only a mild rebuke for once again presupposing the lack of strength your family seems to present.

Akari placidly pours you and herself more sake, and then adds some to Jinyuu-onee-chan's cup as well, and offers to Kiki-hime (who refuses), Yui-chan (who shakes her head fearfully, looking down at her plate), and Yumiko (who is completely uninterested). Yumiko is looking at you like you've slapped Jinyuu across the face, which is understandable to an extent. Jinyuu's eyes are slightly sad, and the worry she expresses in by asking for two pourings of sake rather than one is notable.
>>
>>34230352
Yumiko speaks softly, but there's a bit heat in her voice. “You are saying you would rather break all ties with Clan Ryo rather than accept the teachings and skills of the clan? I cannot believe that your small family here is so powerful that you would risk Oba-san's wrath simply to prove a point. If Oba-san suggests a marriage to you, you should by all means accept it. Otherwise, you are flying in the face of all out traditions and the wisdom of our elder members!” Yui's eyes flash blue as she glares at Yumiko, and Akari grabs her wrist beneath the table.

Bearing in mind she's speaking out of ignorance of your actual conversation with Jinyuu....

[] I'm afraid your understanding of the relationships between men and women is simply deeper than mine, Yumiko-san!
[] Oba-san isn't always acting in the best interests of the clan, Yumiko-san. Only usually.

The point here was to refute the assumption that her family couldn't measure up to a clan. Wether or not she might take a clan in addition isn't relevant to the question.

>>34230578

Dunno, that quote seemed to indicate that we had no interest in founding/hijacking a clan, which judging by these votes we certainly do.
>>
>>34230720
>, which judging by these votes we certainly do
There has never been a vote on the matter, I don't know what you talk about.
And the qoute clearly was about Jinyuu saying Ryukusa would need a clan, ad Ryukusa said she doesn't need one. Even if she would take a another clan, her family would still be the 'core' of her resources. I don't think there would be a majority for Ryukusa subordinating herself to yet another callous schemer.
>>
>>34230578
>Who needs the unpredictable entirety of a clan when you have the reliable love of your family?

That is specifically Ryukusa's personal opinion - but she still asked her sister about the possibility of a clan to be hijacked:

>"Unless you have a suggestion for someone to make an arranged marriage with? After all, such things are not quite as much your forte as the future, but perhaps if you have a suggestion I might look deeper into it.”

>>
>>34230796
Very well, issue dropped.
>>
>>34230852
>founding/hijacking a clan
Is quite different from subordinating. The point was that if Ryukusa would join a clan, her family would still be the priority of her loyalties. So she would still value that stability over the greater strength, but less control of a clan.
>>
[X] Oba-san isn't always acting in the best interests of the clan, Yumiko-san. Only usually.
[X] Well, in my peculiar case, Oba-san is working off of secret knowledge; so you can't presume so much.
[X] I prefer happiness to being a good little lizard, Yumiko-san.

You calmly set your sake cup down, and Jinyuu-onee-sama does the same, allowing you a break from your deeper conversation while accepting you are doing the same. Things like this happening are why most people consider Water dragonettes standoffish. Sometimes you just want to have a real conversation.

Still, she does have a point, and she's operating out of ignorance. Ignorance can be taught away though.

“As much as I'd like to say otherwise, Yumiko-san, I admit that happiness is actually more important to me now than being an obedient little lizard. Admittedly, it probably would have worked out better if Oba-san's loyalty to me were a little more pronounce than her loyalty to herself, as opposed to her loyalty to the clan.” Yumiko's cheeks are coloring and her eyes are glowing just a touch. Still, she's not making any threatening moves and your sister seems to be calm enough. “There's also the fact that Oba-san's actions are based off of things no one else in the clan knows, including the people she considers trustworthy.”

Akari lifts Yui's hand and kisses the back of it softly, but not even that calms Yui down very much. The public display of affection doesn't even catch Yumiko's attention, she's so upset with you.
>>
>>34231155
“Perhaps if you understood Ryukusa-chan's situation a little better, you wouldn't be quite so upset with her, Yumiko-san.” This comes from Kiki-hime, rather than your sister, surprisingly. “You have to understand, Ryukusa-chan didn't ask to be put into this situation at all. Your leader and my father arranged some things without telling Ryukusa-chan, and it placed Ryukusa-chan and me in a lot of unexpected danger.” Her sky blue eyes are fixed on Yumiko, and Jinyuu-onee-sama looks at Kiki-hime curiously, but doesn't seem to suspect that Kiki-hime is manipulating her secretary.

Yumiko looks a little less certain now, her outrage at your implication that Oba-san doesn't know what's best for the clan and for those who serve it a little less severe.

“I can see where Oba-san is coming from better than I could have, thanks to the people I have around me, Yumiko-san,” you point out gently, trying to work with Kiki-hime's assist rather than against it by accident. “It is not so much that I am disloyal to the clan, but I've been set up. Who by and how, those are things that no one by the very few closest to me and the most powerful of our enemies know.”

Yui is still glaring at Yumiko, but Akari is keeping her in check for the moment. Jinyuu-onee-sama is looking a touch embarrassed by her secretary's outburst as well; you have a suspicion that Kiki-hime is the cause of that as well.

“While you probably....well, definitely have a better grasp on the relationships between men and women than I do, Yumiko-san, marriage isn't just about the man and the woman getting married.” You pick up your bowl of sake and sip it slowly. This seems to relax Yui, but she's clearly quite angry with Yumiko, and Akari is offering her a cup of tea as well....while still holding onto her wrist. Your sister pays attention as well, and grasps but does not pick up her sake.
>>
>>34231193
You look at Yumiko-san and let her see your calm, sympathetic expression, but you tighten your grip on the cup of sake, your fingers holding it in a more claw-like manner. “Even if you consider the idea that the children will be part of the clan, the simple fact of the matter is that a family within the clan isn't always going to be the focus of Oba-san's attentions. There are too many unique and special cases in each family to presume her actions are aimed at the happiness of the family, and can be quite destructive to the family if that is better for the clan, and her wishes might be just as destructive to Clan Ryo if that is better for her.”

Your sister looks away and frowns, deeply. Your words are more meaningful to her than to Yumiko, and she knows that if push comes to shove, you'll bring the wrath of a God to bear against Oba-san, Clan Ryo be damned.

She's opposite side of the table, sadly.

[X] See how Jinyuu and Yumiko react, and thank Kiki-hime silently.
[X] Give Akari some under-the-table-help with Yui.
[+] “Congratulations, Jinyuu-oba-chan.”

You pat Kiki-hime's thigh with your free hand without taking your eyes off of Jinyuu and her secretary, and unwrap your tail from your wife's. Wife. Well, it certainly feels right, even if it's more in spirit than in name. Er Yin seemed to have it right all along, the brat. Your wide smiles reassuringly and looks at Jinyuu.

“I think you have to consider that despite all that has happened on the surface, Jinyuu-sensei, Ryukusa-chan has managed to accomplish things that the leader of Clan Ryo might not have been expecting her too. She's taken away Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi from the enemies of our kind, she has defeated your kidnappers, and she's even managed to foil the people who have been trying to kidnap me for nefarious purposes.” She pours herself some sake, and turns the cup three times, and then picks it up in both hands.

You and Jinyuu recognize the meanings immediately, though it's quite a shock. Apparently, Kiki-hime's Wood Eyes are a substitute for the dangerously clever mind of a Water dragonette. She's letting Jinyuu-onee-sama know that much of what you have achieved was possible because of your family and the people around you. Crudely in comparison, but effectively.

While she is doing that, you brush your tail along Akari's and then wrap the end around Yui's other leg, so that now between you and Akari, you've got three of Yui's limbs trapped. Yui glances at you, her plaintive expression clear – she really wants to hurt Yumiko-san for insulting you. Not so much insulting your family, but you, specifically. You give her the slightest shake of your head, and she relents, slumping in her seat slightly. Akari offers her the tea, but when Yui reaches for it, she pulls the cup back, and Yui looks at her in confusion....then blushes and allows Akari to serve her the tea.
>>
>>34232002
Your other hand you wrap about Kiki-hime's and squeeze firmly, thanking her for her help, but also because, well, she's yours. That taken care of, you release Yui's leg and turn to your sister and her secretary, relaxing your grip on the sake cup and giving them a slight toast with it. Jinyuu-onee-sama seems....well, perhaps not quite troubled, but like she has a lot to think about, where she was far more certain of herself before. Yumiko-san seems to be slightly abashed and more respectful.

Your sister nods, taking your closure of the secondary and rather exhausting Water dragonette conversation, and lifts her cup to you. “Oh, also, a toast.” The others look at you in confusion, and Akari pours sake for herself and Yui, as well as refilling everyone's cup. “Congratulations, Jinyuu-oba-chan, on your new addition to the family!” Yumiko-san smiles and lifts her cup as do the rest.

Jinyuu-onee-sama's eyes widen, and she glances at Kiki-hime, who blushes and smiles shyly. Yui blinks and pipes up with an observation that belies her actual perceptiveness. “Doesn't that make you an oba-chan too, aniki?”

You suppress your urge to giggle. “No, Yui-chan, it doesn't.”

She looks confused, and then blinks, her glowing blue eyes wide. “Oh. That's....pretty weird, aniki.”
>>

Note to self: bring Yui up to date tonight!
>>
>>34232055
As you drink, you feel Yumiko-san's Void eyes open and you lower your cup, looking at her mildly. She stares at Kiki-hime, then turns her eyes on you and pushes her chair back, her outrage clearly evident. “What in Yomi are you thinking?! What have you done, you traitor?!” Her reaction seems to be a surprise to Jinyuu-onee-chan, though; on the other hand, Yumiko just pushed Yui's buttons again. That's not quite what you were expecting from her either.

[] Stop Yui from over-reacting.

Once that's done:

[X] Yui, sit, stay, good oni. As for you, Yumiko, time to get your head out of your fuckin' ass.

Your tomboyish slave (well not really, but still) is already halfway out of her seat when you yank your hand out of Kiki-hime's and thrust it at Yui, whom you swat with a blast of cool air focused solely on her face. She freezes obediently, which is awesome because you did nothing more than grab her attention and she could still have jumped the Void dragonette. Lowering your hand you finish your sake and set the cup down as Yumiko stands, her eyes shining with the power of the Void. Not Void Eyes, though she still has those up; this is power.

Kiki-hime Is watching Yumiko cautiously and staying where she is, while Akari is calmly serving herself some more sake and and nibbling on a pork bun. You sister starts to say something but you make a slight gesture to tell her to be silent; unsurprisingly she obeys, though she is watching Yumiko with some concern.

“First of all, don't shout so much, Yumiko-san. There are people sleeping.” You push your chair back slightly and turn to face her in it, your arms crossed under your breasts and one leg over the other, your tail idly waving behind you as you look at Yumiko calmly. “Second of all, you shouldn't underestimate my servants; Yui may be an oni-child, but she grew up among the servants of a Kami, actual oni. If I were to make a bet between her and you remaining standing, I would not bet on you at all.” You lift up your hand and show her three fingers. “Third, since it was supposed allies of our clan that are trying to not only sabotage Oba-san's commands to me but who also kidnapped you and my sister by using demigods armed with Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi, you may want to reconsider threatening me directly for any reason whatsoever.”

She makes a sharp cutting gesture with her hand. “How can you say you are following your orders at all if you allow your principle to get pregnant and have discovered power that could make any of our kind nearly invincible and refuse to share it?”

Yui growls softly and Akari tugs her back into her seat by her tail, making Yui yelp. Akari speaks into her ear softly, and she mutters something that sounds vaguely obscene and then walks around the table, to help Kiki-hime up and into the kitchen. To her credit, Yumiko ignores Yui and Kiki-hime, her ire and her power focused on you. She's not entirely stupid.

Lowering your hand you tuck it back under your arm. “I can understand your loyalty to the clan, Yumiko, but you're operating with no information, while everyone else in the room has almost all of it. My sister, as much information as she has, doesn't even have as much as I do, thanks to the one person who knows Oba-san better than anyone here – Er Yin Long.” Yumiko blinks, and looks confused. “Er Yin-sensei knows as much about Oba-san's plans as Oba-san does, because she was at one point instrumental in them, and Er Yin is as good a seer as my sister. You, on the other hand, have no idea what you've stepped in. You are alive because I allow it – and no other reason at all. If I sent you back, you'd be dead in minutes – assuming Oba-san didn't rip everything you know out of your mind and leave you a drooling vegetable.”

“Oba-san wouldn't need to, I'd volunteer the information and commit jigaki upon her orders!”

You smile, and even Jinyuu-onee-sama looks a bit taken aback by the coldness of it. “You're quite the well trained little dragonette. As opposed to myself. You were given many things by the clan – attention, teaching, protection, a family. I was mis-taught much of what I was supposed to learn. I was lied to about whom my family was, and isolated from the clan itself by Oba-san's orders. My best friend was meant to keep me from learning anything about my true nature, of which you have seen a ~fraction~ of. The power I have has nothing to do with anything I was taught or given by any outside source – it was suppressed by Oba-san because it suited her purpose to try and control me instead of making me a part of the clan.”

Her eyes darken and she leans over the table, her hands clutching the edges tightly. “Oba-san would never do anything that did not benefit Clan Ryo as a whole. Your power is clearly something special, and if you didn't gain it from outside the clan, then you need to tell her how you got it so she can teach the rest of us how to gain it!” You feel your temper flare, but before you can reply, you are interrupted by the sharp click of a glass being set down and the scrape of a chair being pushed back.

“Shut up.”

You blink and Look at Akari, as does Jinyuu and Yumiko. Yumiko looks like she's about to say something but the words catch in her throat, much as yours did, and for a similar reason.

Akari is standing up and looking at Yumiko, her hands spread and clawed, her nails elongated and gleaming black. Her eyes are burning embers of dark red, and her tiny horns are shining. “After everything you've been told you refuse to see the truth, even with your vaunted eyes of the Void. If Ryuu Ryukusa defeated two demigods, if she has a life force that surpasses the strongest dragonette or dragonne, if she says that Oba-san has betrayed her personally....then it doesn't matter what she says.”

Akari steps away from the table and starts slowly walking around it, towards Yumiko, who is licking her lips and looking very, very afraid. “You know she is telling the truth but you are still saying foolish things. So you are just waiting for her to make am mistake that she will never make because she is what she is – a Water dragonette with the strength of demigods. Your Void-manipulation can't work on her. You can't drive a wedge between her and her sister or make her attack you.”

You're not sure if you should be impressed or disturbed by the fact you didn't even notice she was trying to manipulate you and failing. Assuming she was failing, because you have no idea what she was trying to accomplish at this point.

You lean back in your chair, arms crossed and looking calm, but it only takes a slight gesture to inform your sister that she needs to get the heaven out of the way right now. Jinyuu-onee-sama stands up and backs away from the table, pulling her fan out of ~Nowhere~ and waving it before her face slowly. Yumiko almost started for her but Akari stopped walking and Yumiko froze immediately, her eyes now fixed on Akari.

You look at her through Water Eyes, seeing her fear and her uncertainty. This is a woman who is normally pretty calm about doing her job, but she's seen something that has changed all the rules as she knows them, and she needs to get that information to Oba-san immediately. Her attempt to manipulate you into letting her leave in one way or another – even if she had to sneak out after you imprisoned her in your anger – seems to have failed spectacularly and now she's facing off against someone meant to take out YOU, someone whom she knows is one of the best fighters in Clan Ryo.

“If you know what is good for you, Hebe Yumiko, you will throw yourself on Akari's mercy at once. I don't know how you managed to work around the spell that kept you from using your Void Eyes,” you mention casually, warning Akari that she's still a fairly accomplished sorcerer, “but no one has ever defeated Akari in combat outside of an actual honest to Kami oni.” Yumiko glances at you, nervously. “That's right, an actual oni. Who was fifteen feet tall and the servant of Kuraokami himself.”

The look of alarm on her face is totally worth it, and you didn't even exaggerate a little.

“You can't possibly get away with this. You'll put your sister and everyone around you-”

Akari interrupts her. “You are too late. We are threatened on all sides by all enemies. We are on death ground.”

Yumiko licks her lips again, and tenses.

“You could let me place you in a barrier and release you after all my secrets are revealed to Oba-san. They will be sooner or later and that way you get to live,” you suggest to Yumiko calmly. “I don't really expect you to surrender, but I'd rather not have Akari ruin my new carpet by killing you unnecessarily.” You don't need to look at Akari to know that she's taking every word you say in and reading the subtext. You'd rather not have Akari kill anyone, especially in front of her lover and your wife, and even more so another dragonette.

Yumiko remains facing Akari, but looks towards you. “Say it again.” You can feel her void eyes upon you.

“Surrender to Akari, let me place you in a Barrier, and I will release you without harm when the things you know are no longer a danger to me and mine. It shouldn't be too long at all.” Leaning over, you take the jar of sake, and finish it off. “On the other hand....” You hurl the near indestructible ceramic jar at Akari who without looking, backhands it so hard that there aren't even slivers of it left, just a fine cloud of clay particles. “....I let Akari do you like a ten yen whore.”

Yumiko is staring at the drifting cloud of powder, sweating bullets. She closes her eyes and goes to her knees, her terrified defeat writ large in her spirit under your Water Eyes. Lacing her fingers together she places her hands on top of her head, palms up. Uncomfortable, but one of the safest ways to keep them that won't alarm anyone here.

“Jinyuu-onee-sama, seal her and place her in one of your own Barriers. Akari-niji-chan will make sure she doesn't do anything stupid.” Akari moves close and places on foot on Yumiko's thigh, and takes a wrist in each hand. Yumiko makes a soft, scared noise, as Jinyuu-onee-sama puts her fan away and pulls out a pretty gold and crimson ofuda.

Jinyuu murmurs softly, “You will sleep until it is safe to return to the world, Yumiko-san, I promise.” Yumiko nods her head just a little, as your sister places the ofuda upon her brow. She slumps, but Akari's grip keeps her from falling. “Please take her to my room, Akari-chan, and watch as I perform the ritual?”

“Hai, Jinyuu-onee-san,” Akari replies pleasantly, her horns no longer shining and her nails no longer sharp. “Sorry, aniki, she was bothering me.” Your best friend gently picks up the unconscious young woman and carries her away, Jinyuu-onee-sama following.

[X] You silly, wonderful girls. You worry too much. Also, need some real life experience.

You stand up and sigh, shaking your head. It really didn't have to come to that in your opinion, but then again, Yumiko was just too damned ignorant and too stubborn for her own good. Still, it did go a lot better than it could have. You walk around the table, and Yui looks at you, her eyes large and a little sad, while Kiki-hime can't seem to take her eyes off of where Akari walked off to.

You pull them both into a hug, and kiss Yui-chan on the the head, and Kiki-hime on the cheek. “Akari-niji-chan was just pretending to be scary. If she really had wanted to hurt Yumiko-san she would have thrown something at her before Yumiko-san would have noticed. Not like my protective little Yui-niji-chan.” You squeeze her firmly, and she blushes a little, looking down.

Kiki-hime smiles, relieved. “She's a very good actress, Ryu-chan. I was convinced.” So were you, but you knew she wasn't acting, just giving you the lead on the situation. Akari defers to you because she trusts you and wants you to be happy....if she'd though you were actually falling under Yumiko's influence, your rug wouldn't have had a chance.

“Clan politics are a lot like business politics: sneaky, scary, and underhanded if they're being done right, Kiki-hime.” You kiss your wife softly, and run your tail up and down Yui's back under her shirt, which makes her wrap her arms about your waist and snuggle into you finally. “Besides, it's probably better this way. We don't have to worry about her doing something even more dumb than bothering Akari-niji-chan or trying to capture Er Yin-sensei.”

>Though I don't get why the last one.
I believe it has to do with the whore bit. We were talking about fucking up, not fucking.

Akari wanders out of the bedroom, and smiles placidly at your group hug, and starts for the table, most likely to clean it up. “Nope.” You reach out with your tail and snag her, pulling her into the hug. Yui reaches around you and Akari, and hugs you both, as Kiki hugs you and Yui, and you hug Kiki and Yui and keep your tail about your best friend's waist.

“I'm proud of all of you, for being strong, brave, and smart. You all helped me a lot today, and did much more than I could have dared ask of you.” There are murmurs of assent from Akari and Kiki-hime, but Yui blushes and looks a little ashamed. “Yes, you did, Yui—niji-chan. You took Kiki-hime out of danger when I needed you to, and don't think I didn't notice you kept yourself between her and Yumiko. That is not nothing.”

Her voice is small, but she seems a little less unhappy. “Hai, aniki.”

“Also, we need to work on your euphemisms. Akari doing her like a ten yen whore is definitely NOT about sex.” She looks at you dubiously and you bump her forehead with yours. “Really. I promise.” Yui nods and relaxes, giving you a small smile. “You two clean up the table, please. I'm putting the new mother to bed.” That does make Akari smile and Yui looks up at you.

“Is she really going to have your baby, Ryukusa-aniki?”

“Yes, cutie. She really is.”

“That's really weird, aniki.”

You sigh. “Yeah, it really is.”

“I think it wonderful,” Akari says, tugging on Yui's shirt and pulling her away from you and Kiki.

Kiki-hime smiles and embraces you fully. “So do I,” she quietly agrees, before kissing you.

Thanks for running! It was fun.
Interested to see how Jinyuu reacts after she's done sealing her secretary.
>>
I can answer a few questions. Sorry if it seems short. Lots of writing.

Thanks for running, XS

Water Dragon politics is hard.

Thanks for running. Hope the comfort food wasn't due to anything serious.
>>
>>34235762
Not really. Thank you though.

>>34235746
Yes they are. It's something to consider when you go meet Ryujin.
>>

It didn't seem short at all to me! I'm wondering, if we hadn't given away the whole pregnant thing, would Yumiko have simply tried to escape with us none the wiser (not that it'd work), or would she still try to actively cause damage?

Aw yiss, triple hug!

Thanks for running, XS!

Yumiko would have tried to gather more information. Note that she was able to use her Void Eyes even though they had supposedly still been sealed by Er Yin; she was a lot more skilled than anyone thought.

So how exactly does Elements work when it comes to Dragonette/Dragonne pregnancy? I remember it being brought up last session and don't think anyone asked.
>>
I'm pleased that it was enjoyed, and next session we'll have more feels, and fun things.
>>
>>34235976
Looking forward to it!
Confronting Yumiko was a lot of fun yeah.
>>
>>34235866
Thanks for running! Even if I did miss all of it....

Anyway, loved the subtle water dragon conversation, and everyone else's reactions to what they could understand. Looks like we all underestimated Kumiko a bit, huh?
>>

I really do feel sorry for our onee-sama. One hell of a day she's had.
>>

Typically it's random but influenced by environement and the nature of the dragon-children in question (Clan Ryu has a lot of Water, Stone and Void because those are the ones that lend themselves to subertfuge and combat and other underworld-kinds of things for instance). In the case of Ryukusa and Kiki, though, it was a very particular course because Water generates Wood generates Fire. The touching of the pearls automatically made the next part of the cycle happen.

Most likely the child would have been Water or Wood otherwise, possibly Void (intelligent, creative, or flexible).
>>
>>34236009
Yumiko's main ability is to confuse issues and be underestimated. A more subtle use of Void compared to all of the more active and violent uses you've seen before.

Are there many Water Dragonettes who have ADD like Ryukuza?
>>
>>34236118
It's been a while since her ADD really came out, it's time soon.
>>
>>34236118
No, she's kind of unique in that manner, as her sister pointed out by not pointing it out to her early in the story

Thanks for the thread
