Hey, /tg/. I have some free time, so let's run an unrelated medieval Pokemon quest.

Long ago, the seven kingdoms of the world lived in peace and harmony. However, a dark force soon rose and consumed the world. The wild Pokemon grew rabid and ravaged the countryside and none were safe. A valiant band of warriors arose to combat this new threat - one from each of the kingdoms - and it was only through their ultimate sacrifice that the evil was vanquished. It has been several years since then, and the kingdoms are just now beginning to recover from the losses they suffered, and the new scarcity of resources seem to suggest war is on the horizon.

You are a youth in a small forest village that has grown up listening to the stories of the brave warriors that wielded stunning blades and fantastic spells to combat man and Pokemon alike. Just on the cusp of adulthood, you have decided to set off on a journey to prove yourself, and possibly even become a legendary warrior in your own right.

But first...

You are Lilith, fourthborn daughter to Lord Erwin III King of the Grand Forests. While your sisters were content to remain in a life of courting princes and constant pampering, you always desired something more. You had been trained in many areas of study, and even had the benefit of some rudimentary fencing instruction. However, your ambition was to great to allow you to remain within the confining walls of the castle for too long, and one night you made your escape to the small village on the edge of your father's domain. He is unaware of your departure, and if fortune favors you, he will not notice until you are long gone.

In your preparation for the journey ahead, you grabbed a light rapier, some basic leather armor, and a generous portion of gold to purchase anything you may need along the way. On the way out, you also managed to find your childhood friend, a Pokemon you had bonded with, and would follow you anywhere:

Your faithful companion was a Charmander that you wound sunbathing out on the rocks just outside the castle walls. He seemed to be a long way from home, but you nursed him back to health in secret. However, your father soon found out about your pet, and initially demanded the vermin be executed before it burnt down the whole castle. However, the tears of his 6-year old daughter swayed him enough to allow it to live, but that it remain in a fenced inclosure behind the castle grounds. Whether or not this decision may have helped influence your choice to run away is up to debate.

However, none of that mattered now. You had managed to sneak away far enough from the castle grounds to reach a lone log-cutting village just on the edge of the Grand Forest that marks your father's domain. With your Charmander by your side, you feel like you can make your own way in life, became a Legendary Warrior, and show your father just what you can do without keeping him down. Now was just a matter of what to do first.

Food might be useful.

>>34278882
Potions are magical, and more of a big city purchase. Pokecenters don't exist, and fights out in the real world are fights to the death usually.

>>34279205
You take a minute on the edge of the village to reassess your supplies: a steel rapier with a floral design along the hilt (your father's seal), a decent pouch of gold coins, and the leather armor your are wearing currently (with a more subtle floral pattern around the chest). Your suddenly realize that in your rush, you did indeed forget to purchase any food, and notice a general store with a light still on off by the lumber mill. As you approach, the sign bears a legible symbol of two axes crossed with a bag in the middle.

Upon entering the run-down wooden shack of a building, you see various wood-cutting tools on display, along with a sleepy-eyed boy only a little younger than yourself manning the counter. Upon seeing the young woman enter he takes mild interest, only to suddenly focus on the orange lizard behind her.

"Oh no! That thing stays outside! I can't have my dad come back to the entire stock in ashes!" cried the youth.

Behind him you do see selections of dried meat and bread that is easily within your budget, along with a few items of more particular interest seeming in a locked case behind him. However, he seems adamant about his position.

You smile sweetly "Don't worry, my friend here is perfectly under control. I've been watching his flame my whole life, we know how to be careful." The kid's glare softens a little, but he still seems tense.

"... Fine, how can I help?" You point at a bundle of dried meats, some bread, and a water flask, all of which you easily pay for. However, you remember the glass case, and ask him about that briefly. He kind of glares at you for a bit, before releasing the information. "Its some stuff my dad found in the forest, might have belonged to an adventuring party that got lost out there." He turns around and lays the case on display on the counter, the thin glass slightly dirtied with age. The prices are marked benath each item, and while you could easily afford one, anymore would drastically deplete your funds. "Either pick something or leave, before the shop burns down."

A rapier is fine, for when all else fails or we need to do some sportfighting in town. But for the grit of it, we're gonna have to be doing some spear+shield play. From atop a Charizard, methinks.

>>34279953
Always want a shield. Remember, we've had fencing lessons, not training like an actual soldier.
We want the shield.
>>
>>34279738
You point out the shield without a second's hesitation. Jewelry was always your sisters' passion and you were never too keen in your studies, so a good bit of protection was an easy purchase to make. With a quick exchange of gold and a shocked look on the boy's face that such a young girl could spend coin so freely, you exit the shop, the light weight of the shield on your off hand giving you a sense of protection. As the night grows dimmer, you realize that you've spent long enough in your father's domain, and that the forest ahead of you was your only path towards power and glory. So by the light of your Charmander's flickering tail fire, you set off into the forest and off to claim your destiny.

You walk for a couple of hours until the light from the logging village is a distant spec on the horizon. The sounds of the wild pokemon seemed distant enough at first, but their buzzes and caws have grown louder as you've made your way into the forest depths. As you pass a rather large tree however, you hear a heavy rusting from its branches.

This. Also, no Pokemon League, no officially sanctioned moves. So you've got a little monster with a flaming tail, and sharp claws.
>>
>>34280431
The suddenly rustle causes you to jump behind Charmander almost reflexively, allowing his tail light to illuminate the tree fully without your obstruction. You draw your rapier and take what you assume is a battle stance behind your companion, to see three bright green insects burst from the foliage, their sharp fangs showing brightly read. Descending on what appears to be strands of sticky webbing behind them, you manage to deflect the one aimed at your with your shield, causing the bug to swirl around back to the tree.

However, Charmander was no faring as well, it frantically attempted to scratch at its attackers, but as it was being double teamed it was at a severe disadvantage.

What's your battle plan?
>A. Write in
Then roll a d100 for the most popular option, three attempts max.
>>
>>34280596

>>
>>34280596
I'm assuming you have no real control over what Charmander does since you've presumably never fought together before.

As such:
If either of the other two spider monsters are still dangling by thread, slice the thread. Aside from that just stick close to Charmander and thrust at the spiders when they go to attack, otherwise leaving Charmander's claws to do the damage.

As the one you sent flying reels its way back around, your ready behind your shield and wait for the green spider to come back into position before letting out a single, prepared thrust that effortlessly goes through one of its sides, costing it two of its legs. The startled Pokemon instantly retreats, well aware its prey would put up too much of a fight.

Meanwhile, Charmander continues to frantically scratch at its opponents, before it is blind-sighted from behind, as the enemy Pokemon sinks its fangs into its exposed back, causing the fire-type to spin around in a fruitless attempt to remove the attacker. The sight of Charmander in pain prompts you to take drastic measures. With all your strength you jump into the air, brandishing your shield straight towards the ground. With all the weight you frail form can muster, you feel the shield connect solidly with the arachnid, thankfully peeling it off of Charmander in time for the tiny lizard to roll out of the way before a loud, squelching crunch was heard. The other Spinarak quickly scurried away after witnessing it.

It took a few minutes to recompose yourself after dealing with the large amount of spider goo on the underside of your shield, but you would live. More importantly, Charmander seemed a little dazed, the two puncture wounds on its back quickly healing up. It seemed like he was lucky enough to avoid any poison, however you didn't know enough about medicine to be sure. What mattered was you made it through your first fight alive, and hopefully that was a trend you could continue. You see the path diverges a bit ahead, and you know that the left will lead you deeper into forest, while the right will lead you out into the plains and a neutral trading town.

One fight was enough for tonight, you decide. You take the path to the right and guard yourself against attacks from wild pokemon, although it seems the smell of death among you is enough to deter the native inhabitants from bothering you. The walk back out of the forest is rather uneventful, until your finally break the tree line to see the wide expanse before you. This will only be the third time you have left the forest, and the only time you have done so without a carriage. The moon has risen high into the clear night sky since you entered the forest, and you can assume that is already past midnight. However despite the hour, you can still make out plenty of lights on in the town to the distance. The walk there is long, but feels like nothing compared to the distance you've already traveled.

Upon entering the town, you see that several of the stores are closed up for the night, the stone buildings being illuminated by a large central manor-like building, from inside sounded a cacophony of music and voices overlaying each other. You recognize the building as "The Clever Vulpix" a tavern of notable infamy amongst the soldiers in the castle, and only from the hushed tales you would occasionally attempt to overhear. It was a hangout for mercenaries, and most anyone looking to have a good time and spend some coin, as long as you didn't mind a little dirt.

Elsewhere along the main strip of town, you notice a few Inns, with lights still on, and it seems like a room would be easy enough to obtain. Charmander seemed to be holding himself up well enough from the long trip, however you're unsure of how much of that is just a brave face. What do you do?

You brush off any notion of sleep, you're in a new place, looking for new experiences. And if all the soldiers in the castle talked about this place, it must surely be a great place to go for someone on the path to be a Legendary warrior. As you wander up to the large double door, you see a very large man stumble out, affronting your senses to the sounds of strings being strummed, terrible slurred singing, and the sounds of laughter and voices trying to outdo each other. The stale smell of smoke lingered amongst a few other smells you couldn't quite place. You quickly pick up Charmander, and let him hang off your shoulder, seeing the crowded place as an easy spot to lose him. As you enter, you see several groups of people sitting around tables with mugs in hand, one group clad in armor of a familiar symbol, and another dressed in regular clothes, possibly a trade caravan. Finally, in the back corner behind a counter stood a unassuming man, wearing a fine shirt and a prominent mustache polishing a mug with an apron as serving girls ran up to him to have platters filled.

Suddenly, over the sound of everything else, a very large man lets out an angered scream. "Oi! Something smells like bug guts! One of you hunters let off a Repel or something

You make direct eye contact with the large man with the complaint, and calmly say "Yeah, I had to squish a few bugs in my way. No big deal." The entire bar goes silent for a moment, before the man before you raises out of his seat to his standing height. It is now you truly realize the half a meter he has on you, with almost the same distance in width. You also notice the Ursaring pelt he's wearing, and it almost certainly seems handmade.

The man simply smiles a wide beaming grin, as he bends down to your level, and says in a slow, mocking tone. "Oh, really? I guess you're a big girl then. But still, you stink so let me give you the bath mommy never gave you."

Its at that moment you see the pitcher of alcohol he has raised in his right hand, poised to pour it all over you. But none of that matters, because that bastard mentioned your mother.

10-10

You step to the side effortlessly, and in an attempt to to over-correct after you the man ends up spilling the majority of the pitchers contents all over the front of him. He stands still for a moment to truly recognize what has just occured before grabbing you by the scruff of your armor and lifting you up, raising a fist to strike you. However, the Charmander hanging off your back rises quick to action and bites onto the hand holding you, causing him to drop you and flail around the orange lizard.

By some shear coincidence, he manages to rip off the Pokemon attacking him, holding him in his other hand, forgetting that sleeve was just recently covered in a flammable liquid. The second the open flame on Charmander's tail got relatively close to the pelt-clad man, he lit up like a bonfire. Between his screams in shock, and dropping the Pokemon he jumped out a window, and frantically ran towards the well to throw himself in.

Meanwhile, the bar just looked shell shocked for a few moments, before quickly returning to their previous state. If such a scene was par the course for this place, you could be sure the tales you heard the soldiers tell were no lies. Now what to do?

You quickly drop to your knees and pick up the tiny creature before you, holding it in your arms. Charmander wobbles a little dizzily in your grasp, so it may have landed on its head but otherwise seems fine. It gives a weak call "Char?" as if to ask for your approval.

The party of people with the bear gentleman quickly left after him, with the lone exception of a young man in a robe, not much older than you. As you're tending to your Pokemon, he approaches you, and reveals a vial of purple liquid.

"Give him this, it should ease his pain." spoke the man, his eyes shadowed by his cloak.

You take the vial, and pour the purple contents down Charmander's open mouth. The lizard reacts violently, coughing for a few seconds, before jumping up to its feet, growling happily.

"Medicine always does have a bitter taste." stated the man. You reach to your coin purse to pay him, however he places a hand on your shoulder to stop you. "I don't require monetary payment, only a service."

You look hesitantly at him. "What do you want then?"

He smiles. "The man you just set on fire was my escort to Granite Castle, although it seems like you dispatched him easily enough. Which means I am in the market for a new bodyguard."

Your mind suddenly flashes back to that man. "Oh! Will he be okay?" The man simply shakes his head. "I sure the band of buffons he travels with are more than enough to aid him, besides it seems your stench is more powerful then he was. So about my offer?"

Do we have any notion of the surrounding geography (aka how far the castle is) and the value of things like potions? As a rich daughter Im willing to believe good geography, bad sense of value?

Anyway, ask him what he's paying and if you think the journey is short then why not, sounds good.

..Although a runaway kings daughter turning up at a castle could present issues...

You aren't exactly an expert on geography, but Granite castle is no walk across the park. "I'd be willing to take you, but a trip that far is worth more than a potion"

You're a little hesitant, but then you think what would the valiant Pokemon Knights of old have done. They would have helped this person in a heartbeat, and the journey was one that would easily allow both her and Charmander to grow stronger. "You've got a deal."

The man smiles back from beneath his hood. "Excellent. I suppose you're in charge of our expedition now."

You look around the bar to see the groups have mostly gone back to their drinking and singing, however the unassuming man seems absent, or perhaps has finally successfully blended into the woodwork. The night seems to be dragging on, and the events of the day are beginning to take their toll. However the bear guy might be back eventually and your little ruse seems less likely to work a second time.

You decided that the bar scene is wearing on you, and that you could use a quieter place to find anything else about your first client. You head to the back of the bar, first and place a stack of gold coins on the table and ask to have a crate of whatever bearguy was drinking delivered to the nearby inn. It seemed to work well this time, so why not have a back-up plan for the future. With the order placed, you gather the hooded man and Charmander and make your way in the cool night air.

There is no sign of another soul outside of the "The Cunning Vulpix", but thankfully the Inn still seems to have a light on. Once you had your sleeping situation settled for the night, you might have a chance to find more out about your companion. You head your way over and are greeted by a small bookish man, lightly snoozing at the desk. However, the sound of the door closing behind you is enough to rouse him from his slumber and see to your needs. "Room for two?"

You blush softly. "No, we're separate customers." How embarrassing, the Inn keeper making such a bold assumption. Despite being a runaway, she was still a princess, "I'll have your nicest room, and would like a bath drawn."

The Inn Keeper nodded softly, seemingly implying he had been thinking the same thing since she walked through the door. After settling both their accounts, and heading upstairs to prepare your bath, you were alone with your hooded client, who had rented a much more modest room. He smiled his signature creepy smile, and spoke softly. "I'm sure there's much you wish to talk to me about, so don't worry, come by my room after you freshen up and we can have a chat."

He heads up the stairs ahead of you, leaving you to ponder exactly what you've gotten yourself into. However, the rational part of your brain begins to fade as you begin to smell yourself, and rush ahead, all too willing to take your bath.

After a relatively long soak, and a soft scrubbing of your shield and leather, you put back on your clothes and walk about the remainder of your spacious accommodations. Clearly this was a room meant for a wealthy trader, with such facilities that a commoner could hardly dream of, but it all seemed rather lacking to your royal sense of taste. Charmander seemed to be enjoying himself leaning against the tub to splash against the bathwater. You paced around a bit, considering how little you knew about your new client, and how you really should take him up on his offer.

You make your way to his room, Charmander in tow, and knock on the door. He quickly opens, having been expecting you. You noticeably grimace at his room, seeing only a table and some chairs around a fireplace and a bed. No bath, no dresser, no changing mirror. You hide you surprise well, as he doesn't seem to take notice. He simply offers you a seat at the table, before taking the one on the opposite end himself.

>>34286067
"Magic is the energy that flows through all living things. Some beings are able to harness this energy and use it to do amazing things. Pokemon are naturally talented at this, however some humans have this gift as well. People with this gift are Mages, as we are able to harness the magical energies within ourselves, and you have to display a natural talent for it to learn it. There are numerous types of Mages, with each Mage being able to master only one or two types. However, for those not naturally gifted in Mage-dom, there are three other schools you can follow: Channeling, Faith, and Shamanism."

"Channeling is when a spiritually sensitive human allows a more powerful Pokemon to possess them, striking a bargain with the Pokemon to share their body for power. Faith is used by the religious circles, by calling on an artifact of a Legendary Pokemon, allowing them to siphon off some of its immense power to use for themselves. And finally Shamanism, is when a person takes the inherent magic found in Pokemon and turns them into Totems, that maintain some of the Pokemon's magical energies and can be utilized like that. There are also certain martial arts that display a magic-like power, but seems to be channeled solely from within their own body rather then the world around."

Meh, world builing is a lot easier then plot. This is simple.
"If you can cast spells from a Grimoire is one way. Or sometimes just natural spurts of elemental affinity. I can perform a few simple spells, but I mostly substitute skills for my hobby of Alchemy. A Mage finds their element only once they're truly at one with the natural world, and are able to become one with their element and master it. Its more of a spiritual journey than a logical one."

"Enough about magic then, where's your homeland? How far have you already come on you pilgrimage?"
