The girls break up and look toward us, "Ready to spar? I'm glad Camille is here today, we can duel with doubles."
"Great!" you say, thinking back to what kind of weapons you would like to use.

You are Jack Albator, charming swashbuckler, raffish seafarer, and sometimes a hefty drinker. You've been given the chance to train with several new friends who you assume to be extremely powerful fighters, and Aligot.

You do a mental inventory on the kind of weapons you could try to practice with, there's your trusty flintlock, and that neat gun with the wheel that holds six shots. You would really like to practice with that gun some more. Not to mention all kinds of rifles and hand cannons that you haven't even tried yet. You could spend an entire lifetime here and never get to use every weapon in this armory.

Your head leans to the side, and you look past Fritelli to notice someone. It's the black-haired girl with the rounded ears from earlier, and the only person since you got here that shares the same type of ears that you do. She's peeking from around the gate, staring at your meeting just outside the armory.

"I think Camille may be right 'bout those kinds of lasses." You say to yourself, maybe a little louder than you anticipated.

>Call her over here! The more the merrier!
>Bah, she'll just get in the way.

Also

>Train with the flintlock some more

Haha, that's ok.

About time. They'd said season 3 was go but it was just crickets other than that.
>>
>>34306167
She's Chinese?
>>
>>34306167

Chinese?
>>
>>34306221
Nope, that was the name via popular vote from the thread where where it was asked. (thread 2)
>>
>>34306256
....But that's a Chinese name. A Japanese person would mangle that family name trying to pronounce the 'qi.'

Oh well, whatever, I guess.
>>
>>34306256
... So a Japanese noblewoman has an entirely Chinese name? Are your players retarded?

... Wait, I just checked that thread. The other options were "Lu Bu", "Jessica", and "Roy". Yeah, they are retarded.
>>
>>34306293
Yes they would.

Runner up was Yuuki Kuchinashi, lost by a single vote.

Since that was so long ago, If everyone wants, I could swap the two out if we have a consensus
>>
>>34306325
You can probably imagine why I don't do those little intros for every hero anymore.
>>
>>34306326
You can always say her family are Chinese diplomats or something, I dunno. I'd have to see what their relations were like in... mid 1770s?
>>
>>34306293
implying there's a difference between the two
>>
>>34306326
Swap it.
>>
>>34306326
Just change it out
>>
>>34306326
I'll throw my vote in for the japanese name. A chink name for a jap lass? Seriously?
>>
>>34306376
>>34306360
Fair enough

>>34306346
I might do this anyway.
>>
>>34306326
If you want the name to stay the way it is you can say she's a daughter of a Chinese envoy that became a weaboo or something. Otherwise, swap it.
>>
>>34306326

Bah, swap it.
>>
>>34306326
Yes, please, swap it.

>>34306355
The 'qi' in Chinese has no equivalent in Japanese. The closest to it is chi, but that's a hard pronunciation, rather than the soft that is qi, and Chinese already has a hard pronunciation... it's 'chi' as you would expect (and even then, they don't pronounce it the same way).
>>
>>34306390

The name's terrible anyway, and I say this as someone who follows TKQ religiously.

This has gone on long enough for you. You can live with Aligot's shyness, mostly because the only one it embarrasses is himself. You draw the line at other people acting the same way toward you. After all;

"'EY LASS! WE'RE HAVIN' A PRACTICE DUEL, WANT TO JOIN?"

If someone has something to say to you, then they should at least have the courtesy to say it to your face.

The rest of your entourage turns to face the person you're yelling at. She immediately notices all the eyes that have focused on her and ducks behind the concealment of the gate.
You're not going to stand for being brushed off like that. You walk over to the gate and notice that the once-bustling crowd surrounding the visiting royalty has dispersed. Leaving only this girl and some bored-looking guards in their place.

She stands leaned against the brickwork, clutching her long polearm-like weapon.
"'Ey, are you just going to stand around all day and stare at me?"
This display of openness seems to startle her,
"Oh! Oh. Hello. I'm just exploring."
"Lass, you don't seem to be doing much of that by standing here, warming this wall."

"It's fine! I was just told to wait for someone, and- well."
"Aye, waiting on the rabbit-girl who went into the meeting, right?"
She seems shocked that you noticed that, but nods her head in agreement.
"R-right, but I'm okay for the moment Mr-"
You are immediately aware of how frustrating this is.
"Jack Albator, Ma'am, at your service." You do an almost-sarcastic bow.
"Ah, Yuuki Kuchinashi. It's a pleasure to meet you." She bows back in response.

"How about instead of standing around here watching the brick age, you join our practice match. I would like to see how you use that pike-thing of yours." You eye the long pole with a knife mounted on the end of it in wonder.

You can hear footsteps behind you, it seems Fritelli finally managed to catch up.
"Oh I would love to, but, I need a practice weapon. I don't have much experience with anything else."

A quick check shows that Chinese merchants had free reign to Japan up until the 1660s, when they were restricted to Nagasaki. I think that restriction might have been lifted later before Admiral Perry, but there's something to work with.

I'll try to reign it in, in the future.

"You can just use that, why would you need a practice weapon?" Fritelli says with a kind of shocked demeanor in her voice.
"What?" She replies, genuine confusion on her face.

"Lass, what have you been doing since ye got here?"
"Oh! I've been having afternoon tea with the princess, attending some of her political meetings, and we had a party when I first arrived-"
"'Arrived.'" you repeat back with a kind of dryness in your voice.

It's all starting to make a little more sense now.

"Is that all you've been doing?"
"Ye haven't tried fighting or anything? Or noticing anything different about yourself?"
She looks confused with this line of questioning, "I do my practice forms every morning. Does that count?"
Fritelli looks confused, You're not sure she's caught on yet.

Yuuki thinks about your question for a minute, "I've been in my lady's castle a whole lot, she says I'm the same as royalty to her, is that different?"

She really doesn't know. "How can someone come here and not notice these changes?" you say to yourself, completely ignoring the fact that you, too, were oblivious to your superhuman abilities until someone pointed them out to you.
Fritelli turns to walk away, "Well, you and your friend can come join us any time you want, we're going to the training yard."

You turn to Yuuki again, "C'mon, there's a few things I need to show you."

You pick up one of the wheeled pistols from the armory, and you're convinced this must be one of the best guns in the world. Even the weight it makes in your hand feels just right.

You grab a trusty cutlass from the racks and exit the armory, with a confused Yuuki standing right outside in wait.

"What was it you wanted to show me? I'm kind of confused."
"Have ye noticed a kind of, er, spring in yer step since you came here? Or maybe yer forms being way easier to do?"

She nods, nervously grappling her polearm.
"Or better yet, Lass, have ye tried jumping?"

You seem to be forgetting something that is fairly important by that last question.
You can see her shrugging, readying her ankles, bending at the knees, and with a spring-

"WAIT, LASS! NOT IN HERE!"

CLUNK

She covers the entire thirty foot clearance to the stone ceiling in a single bound, and then tumbles to the stone floor. Clutching her head the whole way down.
You, on the other hand, can't help but laugh, even if you try to suppress it a little.
"Aye guess we both should have thought that one through some more. You okay, lass?"
"Um, yeah, but-"

She stands up, rubbing the spot she hit her head a few times.
"I'm fine. I don't even feel where I got hit."

You slap her shoulder, "And guess what, that won't even be the strangest thing I show you today."

Both of you pick up your weapons and make your way down the hall, toward the training arena. Outside you can already hear two people sparring without you.

Outside, there are two fluffy-tailed combatants lightly fighting. Fritelli seems to have the advantage, but to your surprise, Aligot is actually doing a great job holding his own. In his hand is a kind of baton with the end rounded off. He's not using it for striking, as he is using it to draw letters and symbols in the air around him as he fights. Every strike Fritelli makes seems to reflect straight off of them.
You briefly wonder if you can do something like that.

Camille springs to her feet when she sees you, running past you and over to Yuuki. Immediately introducing herself and doting on her weapon.
"-seen anything like that before!" Camille says, looking at the end of the sheathed implement. "Are you a Shrine Maiden? A bodyguard? How do you use that thing?"
She appears to be overwhelmed with these questions, her voice turns down to a murmur, "Oh I just.. It's part of my weapon training. My father-"
Camille interrupts her, "Oh that's not important, come on! I want to see how you use that thing."

"Better yet," You say, "Why don't we-"

"On second thought, why not Yuuki and I vs you guys?" You say with a big grin.
"Uh, what?" Yuuki studders for a second, clutching her polearm closer.
"Yeah, seriously. There's three of us and only two of you, and we haven't even seen her fight yet."

You can feel your mouth peel upward into a grin. They really have no idea, do they?
"Trust me."

Somehow, you feel a little bad about not telling them. Deep down, you also know that showing them is probably the only way. You would at least think they would have noticed that you and Yuuki's ears are the same shape.

Squaring off, Yuuki nervously walks to one side of the practice court. She's clearly feeling self-conscious. You're not sure if it's because of the possibility that she's never had to seriously fight before, or because of the growing number of spectators to your practice fight.
You slap her back, "Ah Yuuki, calm down, you'll do great!"
She takes the sheathe off her polearm, "If you say so."

On the other side, Aligot, Camille, and Fritelli get into position. Even now you can tell that Aligot probably isn't going to do anything and Camille looks like she wants to back off slightly.

You'll see how that goes for them.

since Yuuki isn't as aware as you are in her abilities have her lead and cover her. The point of this was to show her her new powers, the other part was trying out your new gun so use that to cover her and use your sword if anyone get's close or bullets prove to be useless.

Yeah, my plan for 1d60 + 6d20 isn't working out as well as I thought it would.

"Yuuki! Lead the charge!" She needs to know what she's capable of.
She gives a brief yelp and starts on her feet toward the other three.
Just to immediately trip and fall a few feet ahead.

Damn it, Yuuki.
"That's fine! It happens!" You can hear Fritelli shout, Camille seems to want to go help her up, but hesitates.

You leap over her and into action, using your revolver to scatter the three of them. Camille clearly wasn't expect you to come over like that and flinches, Aligot falls down himself. Leaving only you and Fritelli.
She has that mad grin on her face as you draw close for a strike with your sword.

Your cutlass and her straightsword crash together. Locking into a close stand-off. That is, until you notice Camille slowly compose herself and begin a charge straight at you. You take that as a cue to back off as you leap back. Getting a strike in on Fritelli on the process.

But not before she hits you as well.

You leap in front of Yuuki,
"Okay, Lass. That was a good first attempt, but let's try something different, shall we?"

Looking at the other three, Aligot has slowly managed to his feet, Camille stands behind Fritelli looking worried, and Fritelli still has that mad grin plastered on her face. She slowly walks in your direction.

You expected her to do this, you turn to Yuuki.
"This might be a little scary, Lass, but I promise that it's for the best."
"Scary? What are you- WOAH, HEY"

You pick her up by the back of her dress-like thing. She nearly slips out of it, but manages to align her arms to where she doesn't fall out. With one clean motion, you throw her at Aligot.

He makes a surprised shriek as she collides head-first into his face. Sending him tumbling back like a ragdoll. Amazingly, she recovers her footing almost immediately. Camille is her closest opponent, but look apprehensive about fighting her.

Fritelli on the other hand, continues her advances, well-aware that you're now completely alone.

Camille reluctantly locks her two hammer-like weapons with Yuuki. At first she seems to be going easy on her, but it's clear after a few strikes from Yuuki's polearm that she's hanging onto an extremely close fight desperately. You can see her start to struggle as Yuuki presses her attack.

Good girl.

You look at your opponent, she's already charged with her straightsword out and the grin growing on her face.
"Hey Jack! Your form is still sloppy!"

Her sword strikes your cutlass, but you almost immediately knock it away from her hands. With a motion of your wrist, you draw, spin, and fire. Her clothes start to rip and tear at the seams, giving you and the spectators a good look at her bra-straps.
"No, but my aim is as true as ever."

You glance over to Yuuki to see if she needs any help, but she's already swept Camille's legs and pushed her onto the ground. Yet, for whatever reason, she seems hesitant to actually strike her. Camille rolls out of range of Yuuki's polearm at the last second before she decides to strike.

But you have your own disarmed opponent to take care of. You notice that she has leapt back, completely unarmed, toward her sword which was knocked away.
Out of the corner of your eye, you notice three green spheres heading straight for you! They're easily avoided, but it's clear to you that Aligot is back on his feet, and he's drawing more strange words in the air as he walks behind Fritelli to support her.

Fritelli hunches over and makes a grab for her sword. Little does she know, that just makes Aligot an easier target.
He immediately realizes the mistake Fritelli has made and braces himself as volley of revolver rounds pelt him. His green shirt and pants shattering into a million pieces, leaving him in a pair of dotted boxer-shorts.

Fritelli pops back up with her straightsword in hand, but it's too late, you've already closed the distance and landed two strikes on her midriff. Her clothes start to flake and disintegrate until there's only a tatter covering her almost completely exposed underwear.
Now is your chance!
Grabbing her dominant arm, you gently push her over onto the matted ground. Your arms rotate around her shoulder, putting her in a face-down hold.

She immediately flails about once she realizes the position both of you have fallen into,
"H-HEY! What are you doing!?"
You think she should know by now, but it's fine to simply show her.
Using your free hand, you swiftly run it through her scalp until you reach the base of her ear. You fold the entire flap over softly until you feel a prickly matting of fuzz that resides just inside her ear cavity.

Gently, you use your thumb and index finger in unison to prickle the section of soft, malleable skin that lines the insides of her ear. Immediately she jerks and struggles under your grasp.
"Oh goddamn not this again- HAHAHA, AHAH, NO NO, WAIT, WE'RE- HAHAHAHAH"

Her free arm, which was once trying to shoo you away, now maniacally pounds and scratches at the upturned soil. The sound of laughter coming from both the spectators and Fritelli almost drown out the battle occurring on the other side of the court.

Almost.

You glance over at Yuuki to see her delivering a few strikes at Camille, who has moved back into a crouching position. She manages to block every single strike as she springs to her feet.

Except, the act of springing to her feet also left her flat-footed against Yuuki's advances. Yuuki recognizes this opening and does a very impressive spin with her polearm to parry Camille's hammers as well as deliver a hard strike to her chin.

Camille, clearly disoriented, stumbles backwards as she whiffs a few more times into the air in the general direction of Yuuki. She composes herself, and readies her hammers for one final strike at Yuuki!

Yuuki assumes a pose that you're not sure you've ever seen a fighter actually stand in. Her knees are bent, legs are outstretched, and she angles her body downward with her weapon draped under her arm. Slowly, you can see her eyes close just as Camille jumps into the air for a leaping strike.

Within an instant, so fast that you're not sure that you saw her polearm move, she slices the air in front of Camille. Throwing her off-balance as her hammers come down onto her shoulder. With a quick motion of her polearm, Camille's own momentum pushes her backwards.
Camille suddenly has that look in her eyes; the of realization of just how strong Yuuki is. Her clothes start rip in several places along her legs.

"Okay. Well that was fun! But I have to bow out at this stage. Well-fought Yuuki!" Camille says, sheathing her hammers.
Yuuki looks determined, but also confused at Camille's response.
Camille explains, "I don't fight against overwhelming odds, that's more Fritelli's thing. Besides, I think she's busy having 'fun' right now without us."
"Um." Is all Yuuki can manage as she lowers her polarm and turns to the both of you laying in the dirt.

"Eheheh Camille! Ca-HAHA, CaMille HELP PLEEEASE" she continues to thrash as your fingers continue to massage. Even her tail is joined in on the fight to shove you off of her.

"No, no, Jack seems to have this under control." Camille says with a huge grin.
"Um. Mr. Albator, what are you doing?" Asks Yuuki, with a slight blush covering her face.
You laugh, "What does it look like I'm doing!"
"I think I know, but I don't really want to say."

This only makes you and Camille laugh harder, "This is their weakness Lass!"
You grin at Yuuki, "Why don't ye grab Camille over there and see for yourself."
This causes her to immediately press her hands into her face. Camille looks over to her and burst into laughter. Maybe she thought I was joking.

I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I like the simplification, but the use of different die types for the same action(s) does kind of cause things to slow down a bit since we have to roll the two types separately. It wasn't so bad this time around, but if we go into bigger fights like in the second(?) thread against other nations, that could cause us to get bogged down in die rolls.

The reason I gave her a dice boost after this particular fight is because we got a +20 total boost to our rolls for Cutlass + Flintlock after our first Fritelli duel.

I'm trying to keep it fair for all the heroes, but I'm not sure how entirely fair it ends up being in the end. I do minor corrections instead of long-term planning.

I can't really plan ahead for Jack, because I'm not sure where everyone is going to specialize.

>>
>>34312071
We must be reading different quests, because that's not the impression I've gotten.

The only thing he doesn't seem to have planned out is Jack's direction. Everything else seems to be following something. And even Jack seems to have a consistency, despite some of the weird stuff we vote for sometimes.
>>
>>34312071
Have I done something to give you this impression?

There IS an overarching story planned out. I didn't do intense character planning with Jack's character sheet because for all I know, you guys could be serious about carrying around a giant cannon into battle.

Serious question, does the story seem to lack direction to you?

>>
>>34312319

Any scenes in particular that seem completely unrelated?

>>34312347
No, no, I appreciate people presenting their opinions on the matter. Though, I am unsure what part of it so far hasn't been part of the 'story' or hasn't at least been related to the events that have happened (that is, the act of being thrown into this world as a hero).
>>
>>34312385
The whole quest really? I mean each thread or couple of threads seem linked, but not the quest as a whole
>>
>>34312319
Did you join in later or from the start?

Because here's what I see so far:

Jack gets summoned to this world by Atsuko/Keiko in order to prevent a humiliating defeat for Biscotti and help improve their odds in the competitions with the other countries.

And we pet fluffy tails along the way. Lots of lore and info sprinkled throughout, along with character introductions.

I think the reason it might seem aimless is because we've had this intro phase stretched out over so many threads. If you've forgotten what's happened in previous threads, then yeah, it might seem to lack any sort of direction. But I haven't felt like we're meandering and I've been here since the start.

Okay, sorry you feel that way about the quest so far.

>>34312462
This is a good summary of events so far.
>>

I have no idea what you're taking about. I think you might just be bonkers.

Maybe try going back and rereading the previous threads then, anon. Just skip non-QM posts.

I don't know what else to tell you, really. I'm not getting the impression you have at all.

You may be right, my memory hasn't always been the best

Thank you for your input on the matter.

I will say that one of the reasons this probably looking aimless is because, and I don't know if anyone has noticed, my runtimes per thread have gotten shorter. I'm using twitter's clock to chart events, which may not be the most accurate thing, but it's still something that I need to work on. Shorter threads = we're still stuck in the intro = that might be the cause of that feeling you're having.

Might also want to skip the parts where we're diddling over the mechanics, if you're just reading the story.

Anon, lets get a few things straight:

1. It's Dog Days. This ain't Lord of the Rings, BIG PLOT isn't just going to bombard us constantly.

2. We're a pirate. In Dog Days. We, the players, are going to make the executive decision to waste absurd amounts of time drinking and chasing fluffy tails, as evidenced by the fact that we, the players, have done just that.

That said, taking all that into account I still can't see what you're complaining about, the plot has been perfectly adequate so far.

That may well be it
>>34312562
Yeah, I probably will

>waste absurd amounts of time drinking and chasing fluffy tails
And yet not a single foreign ear or tail has been touched! Bullshit of the highest magnitude.
>>
>>34312772
I know man. Truly we can not allow this to go undone!
>>
>>34312772
i guess it's because we don't have a ship yet
once we get one, we'll have all the fluffiness of this world under our hands

Soon anon, soon.

We've already befriended the foreign hero, that's our stepping stone to rubbing elbows with the foreign nobility, and then next thing you know BAM we're double-teaming the rabbit princess with Tuile.

And after that we conquer Big Fat Cat Tat land.
