Initially, you had written off the frontier world of Ysai Ydumee. It possessed nothing worthy of notice or glory. Now, it's proving to be far more fruitful than you could have ever imagined. A daemonic relic, buried within the depths of the southern continent, offers you a stable rift to the Warp. Similar sites have been the location of endless conflict and bloodshed, even among daemon-kind. And for good reason. Such a tear in reality provides whoever controls it a means of amassing daemonic forces for an assault on the greater galaxy.

Actually obtaining control over the crystalline archway, however, is something you’ve yet to properly do. After relying on the ignorance and fear of Man to sneak past countless scores of Astartes and Imperial Guard, you entered combat against the legendary Grey Knights in conjunction with a wave of daemons from the other side. Amidst the chaos, the fury of Khorne himself allowed you to slay a foe capable of defeating even a Bloodthirster with a single stroke.

Such fate-defying moments do not go unnoticed. A Lady of Change revealed herself to you as you debated engaging the remaining Knights. Though you were loathe to deal with a trickster and sorcerer, the chance to gain such a powerful ally was too much to pass up. Such an alliance was made all the more lucrative when the feathered daemon revealed that she needed your help more than you needed hers.

Having driven the Knights off temporarily, the Lady of Change revealed that Acerea may be in trouble. It was her task to corrupt and take over the capital city to the north, but something went wrong. To top it all off, there’s two ships in orbit more than capable of incinerating both this world and your own vessel. And they’re able to warn others of your coming.

What you did next would shape the flow of battle on Ysai Ydumee. And possibly the greater war that was to come.

Welcome to Khornette Quest.

If you’re a die-hard lover of canon, I suggest you turn away now. I’d like to think I’ll do Chaos and 40k in general justice though. The key thing at the end of the day is to have fun, whatever that means in this instance.

All rolls will go against a specified characteristic in the style of Black Crusade. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure.

Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1 or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If multiple characteristics are being rolled for, each 1d100 counts for its respective test. Any rolls prior to the call for one and those not linking said post will be ignored.

You may burn (i.e. gone forever) 10 infamy to completely reroll a check (i.e. three new 1d100). If you have above 10 infamy, you are allowed a single additional 1d100 roll for any check during a session.

If you have any questions/etc, now’s the time. Otherwise, I’ll push the first update in about 10 minutes

Excessive meta goes to QTG. Blatant Samefaggotry will be ignored.

Does the Tsundere of Tzeentch have a name that we know of?
>>
“Ignitrix.”

“I’m sorry?”

“My name. It’s Ignitrix.”

“I didn’t ask it.”

The Lady of Change scoffs as she continues to weave her sorcery in an attempt to make the pair of you a portal. “Just keep those mortals back for a little bit longer. You can do that, right?”

You laugh as your claws render the last Guardsman standing headless. The forces outside guarding the approach to the excavation site have tried twice now to retake the relic room. “What happened to it only taking a short time? Have you forgotten how to weave your spells?”

“SOME of us are also trying to figure out where those Knights went, thank you. I know you can’t see past the enemy in front of you but…”

“So where are they then? And it is your fault they got away in the first place.”

Her eye twitches. “Like I said, I’m multitasking…”

You return your focus to the tunnel leading up to the relic room upon hearing the thundering sound of Astartes boots coming down it. Despite Ignitrix’s belief otherwise, you could see the bigger picture. And it wasn’t pretty.

Should they fail to recapture the archway, it’s highly likely that the Marines will use their Nova-class boat above to glass the southern continent. As for Acerea, she could be in even greater trouble now that the Grey Knights have disappeared to parts unknown. If they returned to the Imperium vessels above, however, the entire planet might be facing exterminatus. Plus the longer you let those boats float amid the stars, the greater chance they’ll try and get a message out for help.

It’s a complete mess, but you have time to weigh the options as you deal with the Marines coming towards you.

The first Marine to zealously charge around the bend doesn’t even realize he’s been sliced in half at first. His legs continue walking for another ten feet past where his upper torso falls. The second is wiser than his fallen comrade. Rather than rush blindly forward, thinking the Corpse God will protect him, he advances slowly and cautiously. As such, he parries your first swing and pushes you back. Despite that you still have the sensation that the Astartes is moving in slow motion. It’s likely the leftover adrenaline and rage from killing the Grey Knight, but that will only last for so long. Even for a daemon like you.

A quick four-step waltz of clashing blades and sparks later sees you wrenching the blade from the Marine’s hands and delivering a fatal blow to his chest. For good measure, you go so far as to grab one of the many fallen bolters around you to blast his helmet into oblivion. They’ve tried the possum trick on you once already and it wasn’t going to happen again.

“Whenever you’re done playing with corpses, the portal’s ready.” Whirling, you see Ignitrix standing next to a translucent, pulsating oval of pure Warp energy.

“And what of the Knights?” you demand, tossing the bolter aside as you stride over to her.

“Two outside. Four above. Two in the Capital City. I’ll take that ‘Thank you’ now.”

“You’ll be thanked if and when this portal goes somewhere useful and not just to the middle of the Formless Wastes.”

She looks at the portal and fakes a gasp. “Oh, I forgot to set the destination. Silly me.”

You don’t buy it for a second. But this does present an opportunity to decide on the next course of action.

“How close can you get us to wherever Acerea’s holed up?”

Ignitrix puffs out her chest with pride, which has the added effect of making her plumage flare as well. “I can put us right on top of her head if you want.”

You resist the urge to tease her for the moment. “Just… somewhere nearby will be fine.”

A wave of her hand later sees the portal displaying an image of Acerea talking to someone unseen. “After you~”

“If I don’t end up where I should…”

“Oh relax. I need you here in order for my plans to work out.”

Grumbling, you step into the vortex of energy. One disorienting swirl later sees your feet coming to rest on a broken concrete floor some thirty feet from Acerea. From your surroundings, you hazard a guess you’re now in the sewers beneath the capital city.

“Cinder? How in the world did you get here?” the plaguebearer asks, obviously pleased to see you.

“That would be…” You turn and point just as Ignitrix materializes behind you. “Her.”

For a moment the two daemons just stare at one another. Then Acerea breaks the silence. “Well, at least she isn’t purple. I’m glad you brought help though. There’s Grey Knights running around in addition to the multitude of PDF forces keeping my little pets from finishing their jobs.”

“I know, I killed one already.”

Ignitrix sighs. “Well I hope you have a plan for killing the four that are here now. I’m a fan of strength in numbers, but they’re still the kind of foe we can’t underestimate. Of course, if you don’t, I guess I’ll just have to come up with something…”

“Well, you boasted about being able to drop us onto Acerea’s head. I see no reason why we can’t apply that to the Knights themselves.”

“I…” Ignitrix rubs her chin in thought. “I suppose that would work. It’s not as elegant as my plan to crash the Faithful Inferno into the Heaven’s Thunder though.”

Acerea chimes in. “Um, but how does that handle the Grey Knights?”

“I’m pretty sure five miles of metal crashing down onto their heads isn’t something they can live through.”

“Until they teleport away again,” you point out before patting Ignitrix’s head. “Nice try though, Bird Brain.”

The feathered daemon wriggles out from under you and squawks, “I HAVE A NAME.”

“Oh my~” Acerea giggles at Ignitrix’s protest. “But yes, maybe Cinder’s plan is the better one for the time being.” She walks over and bends down to be at eye level with the now puffed-out Lady of Change. “Could you be a dear and find us a Knight all on his lonesome?”

A grumble is all she gets in return, but you can feel Ignitrix’s mind expand beyond the room.

In both an effort to speed things up and to double check on Ignitrix’s work, you try to cast out your own mind towards the veil of the Warp. Between all of Acerea’s toys running around and the archway itself, it seems the barrier between realms is rather weak around this planet. Thus, you have little difficulty projecting your consciousness above the city like a bird of prey.

Now that you’re getting a good look at it, you’re starting to wonder whether the place even rates the term “city.” The only thing worthy of note is the spaceport that consumes a majority of the area. Outside of those landing pads and warehouses, though, there’s little besides an Imperial-Age slum. And of that there’s few buildings which aren’t either covered in pulsating masses of fungi or dissolved messes.

But you’re not here to sight see, you’re here to find Grey Knights. Except you have no idea what signs to look for. Just when you’re about to give up, you notice your gaze keeps shifting away from a spot on the fringes of the city. “Zooming in” reveals a literal blank bubble where reality seemingly ceases to exist.

“Found them~” Your concentration is broken by Ignitrix piping up. The image in your mind fades instantly. “One’s currently standing watch over one of the PDF regiments. Or perhaps he was trying to rally them. Hard to say with all those wards about him. Two are holding the western Spaceport advance by themselves. The final one is on the edge of the city, I think.”

“EXCUSE ME WHAT,” interjects Ignitrix, “YOU HAVE A BLANK?!”

“Remember how I said I had the means to kill you if I changed my mind? Yeah.”

“Of all the stupid…” She stops herself from inflating again. “Alright so there’s no way of knowing if that one is your pet abomination or a Knight. Or both. There were four Knights here not ten minutes ago. I don’t think their packs recharge THAT fast.”

Turn that one Librarian Half-elf ultramarine mad Racist against the Eldar and make him hunt them down always keeping his Helmet on which you've managed to corrupt which causes his impending anger.

Or do it to any guy who looks like he could pull a Pelnial Whitestrike 40k edition.

Best a Malal Daemon or follower in combat and take it's parasitic Daemon eating weapon so you've got a tool that gets stronger with each kill you make, that also dispenses amusing chatter.

Sneak into Lorgar's place.

You shrug. “Worst case, we end up making sure our anathema is still alive. Best case, I have a complete set of arms.”

“As you wish…”

It takes a moment for Ignitrix to set up another portal and shift its exit to a spot above the conundrum. The same bubble of non-existence is visible on your end before you hop in.

This time, you start to fall through the air when the transition is complete. But once you see what’s below you, you’d rather you weren’t falling at all.

A Grey Knight has strapped Mr. Silent to the back of his terminator armor. The latter is very much alive (if not “thrilled” to be there) at least.

An idea pops into your brain as you fall. An idea so crazy that it’s insane even by daemonic standards. But you didn’t get where you were today by playing it safe. And if you pulled it off… Well, even Feather-Tits wouldn’t be able to challenge you anymore.

The first step is banishing away your current set of claws. They’d be absolutely useless in Mr. Silent’s aura anyways. They fade to your little pocket in the Warp with a single thought.

Next, you bring forth the Grey Knight arm you had in storage.

“HEY ASHTRAY!” you roar, “I HAVE SOMETHING FOR YOU!”

The exact millisecond his head starts to move, you fling the fleshy mass that was still inside the terminator armor at him. It’s both a distraction and step three.

Step four is to summon Tuska’s Power Klaw.

It’s still too big for you. But what matters is it covers your hand and arm all the way up to the shoulder. Just enough cover so that you can don the terminator arm temporarily.

By now the Knight has knocked the limb of his fallen comrade aside and raised his own sword in preparation to block your blow.

Pouring every ounce of primal fury and willpower into the space around your fist, you plunge it into the Terminator Armor and take hold of the Nemesis Force Sword through the double-wrapped gauntlet.

It immediately explodes into a ball of crystalline fire.

Time stops.

You feel a massive presence in the Warp turn its gaze towards you.

Your swords connect after an eternity.

The very air explodes.

You land at the Grey Knight’s feet.

Along with his head.

As the body falls, twitching, your acquired armor shatters along with the sword.

You’re going to need a moment.

*I* am going to need a moment. Hexer would be proud of the level of chuuni I swear

The moment passes. And with it a literal fountain of blood spews from the severed neck of the Astartes. Seemingly endless, it soaks the surrounding area and you while you proceed to check on Mr. Silent. He’s badly burned, but still breathing. Nothing a little rest won’t fix. As for you, well…

You look down at yourself, checking for any injuries. You find none. Not a single scratch. When you look up, you’re no longer on Ysai Ydumee.

You’re in front of the Skull Throne, holding the skull you just claimed.

A voice beyond all other voices, containing both every single bit of rage ever to exist and a perverse glee, speaks.

So I should note that I'm doing the rank ups a little different. And that I can't remember half my notes properly apparently. Here's the current upgrade path

Herald (30) -> Bloodthirster (60) -> Daemon Princess (90) -> ??? (120)

So yeah. I'd say killing a Grey Knight protected by a Blank shield gets you auto-bumped to 30 infamy.

That means you get to read three books before we even deal with what being a Herald gives you.

+5 each to Fel, Per, WS appears to have won.

Now instead of witty book titles, here's what being a herald gets you:

* Daemonic multiplier goes up to (3). That means S & T go up to 72 in most cases.
* You now have a max of 25 wounds. Comes with a free heal to full. Your regen is still stunted though.
* Wormbag receives orders from DA BOSS to upgrade your claws again.

I'll update all that, and then we'll get back to the narrative.

You do better than that. You present TWO Grey Knight skulls. As soon as you kneel and raise them above your head, you find yourself back exactly where you were on Ysai Ydumee. But perhaps not exactly what you were. A greater appreciation for leadership skills and a greater sense of strength stand out immediately. You might also be imagining it, but your horns feel larger too.

Regardless, it’s probably a good thing no one’s around to see your tail wagging stupidly fast.

“Cinder?”

Well almost no one.

Looking up, you see Acerea and Ignitrix looking down at you through a window in the Warp. You hastily hide your glee and motion to the body of the Grey Knight.

“Turns out it was both our Blank AND a Knight. I handled it though, no need to worry.”

Ignitrix silently mouths “what” before hopping through the portal herself. Only when she’s properly kicked the dead Astartes and verified Mr. Silent’s aura does she speak.

“That shouldn’t be possible. You shouldn’t be possible. THIS should not be possible.”

“Remember to breathe, dearie~” calls Acerea as she joins the pair of you. “It’s best not to think about it too hard.”

“I DON’T NEED TO BREATHE. NONE OF US BREATHE. WE’RE DAEMONS. SHE…”

Her yells are cut off by Acerea’s hand over her mouth. “What should we do about our friend?” The Plaguebearer nods over at Mr. Silent.

It takes a moment for your vox’s signal to bounce off of a relay and to the Raptor that’s currently hiding in the shadow of the planet. Proditus’ voice answers as soon as the line connects.

“I-I’m sorry but Inquisitor Cinder isn’t able to-”
“It’s me, you idiot.”

“Oh thank Khorne. We’ve been playing cat and mouse up here keeping the planet between us and the Heaven’s Thunder. Meanwhile the Rogue Trader in charge of the Inferno keeps trying to raise us on comms and…”

“Yeah that’s great Proditus. Sadly I don’t care unless you have Grey Knights tearing through my bloodbath. Just keep the Void Shields up and keep doing what you’re doing. Oh, and I need a shuttle yesterday for an evac.”

“B-b-but it’ll get shot down…”

“I don’t want excuses. I want a shuttle to pick up a certain Blank and move him somewhere that isn’t the middle of the battlefield. Or do I have to come up there personally and…”

“Three are on the way m-m-m-mistress!”

“Good boy.”

You disconnect from the vox channel and sigh while pinching the bridge of your nose. “I need to get a better Brass Herald…”

Acerea giggles. “I’ll take him if you don’t want him~”

Ignitrix rolls her eyes. “So are we babysitting this thing or are we going to keep moving?”

On your end of the portal there’s ample room for a lead-up charge. After bending down and assuming the runner’s pose, you leave your daemon friends a word. “This time, actually back me up.”

Then you’re off, squeezing every ounce of power from your legs which each footfall. When you reach the portal threshold, you turn slightly to the side and stiff-arm your elbow. Time to test out the new bones against terminator armor.

On the other side gravity rapidly adds to your speed. Mid-way through the Knight’s recant of the Emperor’s Proverbs, you impact the back of his neck to send the pair of you tumbling across the ground. You catch yourself after the first roll by digging your claws into the ground and bringing yourself to a complete stop. The Knight keeps going for a good thirty more feet, on all his face, before he comes to rest.

A collective gasp goes up among the gathered PDF. Those nearest you scatter immediately for fear of being caught in the middle.

Rather than hitting the Knight while he’s down, you calmly wait for him to rise and face you. A certain sense of smugness creeps over you upon seeing his helmet dripping with mud.

“YOU SHOULD HAVE KILLED ME OUTRIGHT, FOULSPAWN. NOW YOUR ARROGANCE WILL BE YOUR UNDOING!”

Just as you open your mouth to retort, four other Grey Knights step into reality all around you. This could be a problem.

“Concentrate fire on my flanks!” you bellow as you leap past the Knight on your immediate left. Your leg sweeps low, knocking him to the ground and causing his bolter to fire straight up into the air. A quick backhand with your claws maims both the weapon and the gauntlet holding it.

Hellfire and acid rain down from your comrades towards the two Knights who are quickest to try and discharge their own bolters in your general direction. Such bolter fire is instead directed upwards towards the portal. Occasionally a shot from either side goes wild, digging craters in the ground or turning unfortunate PDF into flaming, melting, or exploding piles of flesh.

That just leaves Mud-helmet and one other Knight. The former produces a glowing greatsword before bellowing and charging at you. The later holds a staff high as it begins to crackle with psychic energy. You pull away from the Knight on the ground just in time to parry Mud’s terribly powerful downswing, but you’re all too slow in avoiding the blast of holy fire that’s directed at you (-5 wounds).

After putting your storm-coat out, you catch the Mud’s blade as it comes down again. Glaring into his helmet, you grin and growl, “I was bored with one Grey Knight anyways~”

>implying we give a shit about honor
The sisters were weak, and so they died. Such is the way of life.
We have no honor, but what we do have is pride in calling ourselves a mighty Herald of Khorne. Do you think it was honorable to reach for aid from a horde of Tzeentchian daemons instead of killing the GK from the archway was honorable? No it was not.

Honor is for those with no cunning, the truly strong have Pride.

>>34312592
Shit went down. Tide of blood from the warp was overrunning a planet. SoBs couldn't stop it so they called in the Grey Knights.
GKs need better protection from the blood tide than their wards, so the douse themselves in the purest blood they can find.

Pride
a high or inordinate opinion of one's own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.

Khorne cares not from whence the blood flows, only that it flows! Your method only needlessly complicates an otherwise simple task.

Bad things happen after that.

>>34313350

But the complication is both honorable and glorifying, is it not?

Hey, how warded against daemons do y'all think an Exterminatus fleet would be?

>>
>>34313383
Well seeing as its extremely relevant the source of the blood flowing, I'd say he does care.

Remember how ELH said it mattered where we got our sacrifices and we got a Nurglette from the had floors by using women and children and the sick and downtrodden?

We use the guardsman and PDF and we get actual khornate reinforcements
>>
>>34313416
>>34313342

Rituals are that sort of gray area where such things are allowed. It takes a lot of energy/etc to bring daemons permanently into realspace.

Now if you decided to stop wailing on the Gray Knights to go eat some PDF brains, Khorne ain't gunna like that.

Read: Khorne cares not from whence the blood flows.

The slaying of innocents is A-OK in Khorne's book, you just can't expect to be any more of a favored guy for doing it. Offering them up to Khorne himself would offend him, as you basically just said "promote me for killing squirrels".

We didn't use those people as offerings to Khorne anyways, we used it to summon more daemons. That's just taking extra layers off the walls between the Materium and the Immaterium.
