You were just your ordinary everyday highschooler with a “mild” penchant for video games.
Then came the accident where your mother (your only carer) was turned into a sack of irresponsive doll kept alive by modern cybernetics.
To make it worse, you were now tasked with a huge monthly bill to pay the hospital bastards. Most people would have given up around than however you were never one for giving up. After a ton of research, you have found out the best “path” to success for your abilities was to do what you were best at… play video games. The VR (Virtual reality) game Viritia to be precise.

You have just recently learnt that archmages are imba and that you have less than amazing talent with portal magic.

QM may be slightly slightly hungover, do not worry, it is unlikely to affect anything besides my grammar

You are currently within an ostentatious room inside a large oversized mansion with the “lady” and about to start on a long and annoying fetch quest. Out of the dozens upon dozens of MMORPG’s you have played over the years, it seems the one constant point is long and arduous quests to the middle of nowhere to fetch some plot McGuffin. You are doing all this for the sake of some undefined “gift” and a “lady’s” (read male at birth) favour which you sincerely hope is game speak for loot worth some cash. However you’re getting ahead of yourself, before you can even leave on that fetch quest, you must according to the “lady’s” drawwwwlllll
“Darrlliiiing, lettsssss plaaaay the gaaaameeee of chaaance befoooorreeee you leeeaavveee, of couuurssseee a gameee is moooooreeee FUN wheeeeen youuuu teeest yooooouuurrr luuuccck by not knooowing itsss detaaaills” once again you’re reminded that you really ought to punch whichever bastard coded this NPC.
You decide to
>Accept the game (How bad can it be?)
>Decline the game until after the fetch quest (somehow you get a feeling that declining this powerful noble in front of you will surely lose you whatever the relationship mechanic is in this game)
>The quest mentioned favour. This is a video game…What the fuck is favour anyways and how does it work in game mechanics terms?
>Ask for more details on the game of chance, fuck her fun (will probably anger her a bit but hey… the “lady” seems to like you somewhat since you accepted both parts of her quest, what’s the worst that could happen?)

So, I go to sleep and wake up to us being a portal mage. With shit affinity for it. Good times.
>>
>>34326328
our proffesion isn't locked. This actually means that we WON'T be a portal mage. Just the increased inventory space is plenty.

...at some point, there will have to be a limit to the number of skills/skill trees we pick up.
>>
>>34326328
>>34326306
10 minutes isn't up but seems to be a pretty big consensus to accept the game. I guess showing her the amulet can be stuffed in there too as it's not too major an event to require a vote.

You decide that you may as well accept her game I mean, how bad could it possibly be.
"I accept your game lady" you call out in a courageous (and fake) feminine voice as the lady grins and shouts out in a pretty pretentious and over the top voice.
"A gaaammeeee-" you decide to mentally attempt to make her sentences coherent by ignoring the drawl.
"A game of life or death, of hope and despair, you must play the magnificient game of..." you await pointedly in what you presume will be some ridiculous challenge fitting a video game's quest
"...black jack" she ends whilst bringing forth onto the table in front of you a deck of cards... from inside her dress... ugh.

This specific quest seems to attract some undesirable types. We are doing it to become a delicious trap but it the only other person we have seen who has done it did so to be a prick.
>>
>>34326484
You've been pretty focused on helping your mother and paying the fees. You are unlikely to focus on getting friends unless it has some kind of benefit (e.g. joining a party to hunt better or do quests easier)

...wait a minute... black jack? Theres fucking black jack within this fantasy world setting?
"These are the rules love, if you win than you win, if you lose than you die, simple really. Of course once you win, you can keep playing and testing your luck if you want additional favor" she explains with her usual drawl which you mentally filter out

"Let the game begin" she calls out as she deals two cards two you whilst dealing two cards to herself, one of her cards is faceup and shows a 8.

Roll 1d11 first of two. (yes I know the dice chance is not like the chance in real blackjack)

You quickly and "somewhat" calmly reveal your hand to the lady after saying with in a false courageous voice
"STAY"
You had decided that its best to play it safe, she did say that if you lose than you die so its best to play it saf-
Suddenly a system prompt pops up
>One who overcomes bad luck: Beginner (You receive a +2 in all stats as long as you're in an unlucky situation) has been activated temporarily

Wait what?
Suddenly you feel a slight tinge somewhere however before you can notice anything, the lady reveals her face down card.
Its a ten of clubs meaning that she now has 18, damnit, you were so close too...
"too bad darling, guess luck is on my side" she drawls with a grin as you suddenly feel a pressure

>You have died, as this is your first death a system prompt will explain
>When a player dies, they will normally re spawn at the spot they died after 12 hours or if they have friends in the church or elsewhere than they may revive elsewhere
>Dieing loses your character a level, 1 in all stats (which will be regained on level up) and an amount of items at random equal to half the player's level rounded down

>As you are under level 10, you will lose only 50% exp
>As you are under level 10, you will respawn instantly if you choose to
>As you are under level 10, you will not lose any stats
>As you are under level 10, you will not lose any items
>As you are under level 10, you have the choice to be reborn within the starting town if you die outside it
>As you are under level 10, all malicious scrolls have no effect on what you drop on death

the screen tells you in a monotone about your death... wonderful it seems that you are now at level 6 with 50% exp. You had always thought your first death in this game would be against impossible odds or a large amount of monsters in an attempt to save a damsel... turns out you were wrong... you died from black jack. Man, this is really embarrassing for someone who has played so much games.
After a few seconds of ranting about the whole unfairness of the fact that you died in a goddamn game of chance which you had no control over. You quickly and irritatbly press the respawn instantly + respawn at current location buttons.

With a flash of white light, you are once again standing inside the pretentious looking room filled with decorations of figures of luck everywhere. Across from a table, you see the lady with the same grin as before holding a deck of cards. She calls out to you
"Ready to try again darling?"

You decide that you’ve heard she’s someone with magical talent so the best possibility is that shes cheating with her magic. Before she can annihilate you with her magic, you speak out in your best “Sherlock” voice… which would probably humiliate all sherlocks who have ever existed.
“I have deducted that there is only one possibility, YOU MUST BE USING YOUR MAGIC TO CHEAT and as proof…” You promptly grab the deck and begin looking for a copy of the card on the table however… it seems that you can’t find it. Damn, you’re sure she must be using magic to cheat however it seems that you have no proof.
“…Ummm, well you’ve used magic to change yourself, changing cards must be easy for one such as you” you try stating as you slightly lose momentum from the fact that there are no duplicate cards within the deck.
“Me? Cheat? No darling, the gods of luck simply smile their blessings upon me, I thought you were better than this. Did you really think that my luck had some kind of magic element to it?” She asks as if shes insulted… Guess theres only one option for you, You’re going to have to try and bullshit your way through this

She states that she will do her best to help you along the road for the fetch quest and will even allow you do drop the quest if you wish... at the cost of the additional gift. >>
>>34329972
You decide that since you're now at fucking level 1, its best to get all the help you can possibly get.
"My lady, could you be so kind as to help explain the favor system and the kind of help you can give me on this quest for the mountain rose" you say in your best prose and copy of what nobles in games typically talk like. The lady promptly giggles and begins to explain.

>You can now view the favour system you have with the Lady, be warned that the Lady is a whimsical individual who seems to wish to let "luck" decide everything. This means that there may be variations in cost of favour even if two players ask for the same thing.
>Current favour with lady: 1230
>Current favour loss per day: 50

A system screens shows you the possible "options" you have to using her favour, you promptly ignore the over 1000 section (good filter) and see some of the "cheaper" favour options, you decide you want:
>Gear for low level characters (around 100-200)
>Gear for mid level characters (around 201-500
>Cheap items (10-100)
>Moderate items (101-500ish)
>Ask her for a personal favour (depends on the favour)
>writein (QM will see how much it'll cost)

Whilst you ignored the over 1000 section, its worthy to note that gaining a minor "gift" (not as quest reward but buying with favour) costs 1000 whilst getting a minor noble title is 5000

breaking the posts up, since hard to do multiple choices
>>

-How Can I learn the magic that allows me to change my gender?

We need equipment and some items to survive the fetch quest. And lets ask how much favour learning gender changing magic cost.

>>34330369
She could possibly hire a trainer for you but that would be anywhere from 200 (common enough skill/stat) to 1000 (hard skill/stat).

>>34330397
Bronze/silver/gold can not be gained from favour
Yes somewhat for both however you would need to roll for both and favour cost will be quite large
>>
>>34330212
So seems to be consensus on gear.
writing
>>
>>34330497
You see the options and decide that the best choice would be to get some gear for the present as you're about to go on a damn fetch quest as a level 1
You see a range of options however three pieces of gear you notice in particular

>An leather armour made of thick black fur, you sense something magical about it, level requirement is 5, other details unknown (price: 1d100, highest of 3, you want low)
>A rapier that you had seen that pompous bastard awhile back (at the hotel) wear. level requirement is 10, other details unknown (price: 1d200 highest of 3)
>A pair of glasses which seem ordinary yet have red shades... it looks cool, level requirement 1, other details unknown (price 1d50, highest of 3)
>any combination of the above
>none of them
>>
>bad luck situation activated

So the "magic" she used was "luck" and she's not just "Lady" but The Lady. Great. That doesn't help us at all, other than the person who has the most control over the amulet.

You decide that the best course of action is to choose the character creation screen, after all, you really don’t want to get stabbed in real life from crazy woman who are significantly stronger than you. That and the fact that you have her email and are going to meet up with her in game one day. Preferably you would not be found out that you were the reason she lost her job…
You quickly select on the system prompt “character generation”, a red warning pops up that besides the gender, all other details will be randomised INCLUDING your username. Welp, if possibly getting a stupid username is what it takes than so be it you think as you quickly push down on the accept button.

>>
>>34331647
In my defense. It seemed like a majority opinion thing in the last two threads when there were more people.
>>
>>34331489
You decide to play it safe and change your whole gender, after all whilst there is novelty in being a girl, it does get old quite fast… With a whirl of light, a mirror is presented to you… Well at least your hair is different BUT YOU STILL LOOK MOSTLY THE SAME. Besides your hair being shorter and your face actually being cuter than before, you are still mostly the same as before. It seems that the “lady” has trolled you hard as whilst your gender has changed, you actually are more girly than before.
After a now expected flash of light, you are back in the lady’s room giving what you hope is a death glare (read: cute tsundere like look) at the lady whilst she giggles and laughs.
“Sorry *giggle* darling, it was too fun to mess with you so I may have slightly slanted the change in a certain way…” she states whilst she “tries” her best to stop sniggering… That does it, when you find the coder of this NPC, he was going to die a long and painful death.
You leave the mansion after a hour or so of chatting with the lady, it is currently the morning of the 9th. You are currently in the noble area and you know that 7 days to the east is the mountain with the “mountain flower”. You have 1200 current favour which means that at 50 a day, you have 24 days to reach the mountain and come back.

However you quickly realise something you didn’t notice before… you can see a red bar with a number over the top of nearby individuals. With your game knowledge you quickly realise that this pair of glasses must allow you to view the health of nearby individuals.

You decide that you will probably need a bit more training (what with you being level 1) and that you will also stock up on supplies for the journey. You leave the noble areas through the main gate much to the glaring of nearby players (it seemed that they had been refused entry)… or at least the glaring of the players before they saw your face. Once they saw your face, it seems that most of the glares turned into another more “hungry” look. Funny this is just your luck, when you chose a girl avatar, you gained almost no attention but now that you’re a fucking boy avatar, you’re getting the looks you were hoping for before. With a sigh you quickly navigate to the general store and spend all 3 bronze you have left on
>You have gained 10 bread
>You have gained 5 water
The young girl behind the counter looks like she has a quest to give you however when you ask, she simply states that she’s looking for a “stronger” and more “famous” adventurer… which is not you… great. With a inward sigh, you trudge towards the training fields, luckily the old man mentor is not there so there won’t be any “social” issues.
You pick up the wooden sword lying near one of the “targets of your strength” as you decide to begin training. You seem to be gaining quite a crowd of “watchers” however you ignore them as you concentrate

Each strike seems to do around 1-2 damage whilst the scarecrow seems to have 1000 health however you do not give up, not even after several dozens of hours have passed, not even when the hunger and thirst message showed up, not even when the system prompt stating that

You decide that you will probably need a ton of exp (to survive the damn trip and because of PVP red bastards) and that getting herblore will probably be a path for easy gold. With your thoughts settled you set off at a brisk walk towards your destination.

On the first day, you are traveling through the plains and meet various rabbits, wild dogs and wolves however the mob that you focused on killing was the
>easy rabbits
>moderate dogs
>hard wolves

Your focus on herblore so far has gained you a huge amount of various plant loot which you have tested in various manner ranging from touching, grounding it, eating it, testing it on animals, combining it, etc. However there was one type of plant along the journey that you found you had the best ability using

quality over quantity

I'm a little conflicted on herbs. Heal pots are good for money, poisons and antidotes are good for quests, while status ailments are good for taking down bosses or lots of enemies.
>>
>>34333026
About the herbs since were going up against the hardest mobs well probably take lots of damage. So we should probably focus on healing ourself. Plus our endurance will probably naturally increase.
>>
>>34333010
I don't know. I feel like wolves would be too distracting and we would not be able to focus on herblore. And I figure if the game has a healing class, they have healing, status removal down, and can remove negetive status. But everyone with a bladed weapon will always want extra damage.
>>
>>34332954
since we don't use mana on anything why not spam portals and get exp?
>>
>>34333082
I think we can only use permanent portals that take expensive reagents and hours to cast atm.
>>
>>34333082
That's on the return trip. Since we need to have been there to use the portal.
>>
>>34333106
Temporary portals need no reagents, but take 2 hours. It's not so much blinking as a very slow game of hop scotch.
>>
>>34333082
You take hours to cast it, you also need magic crystals for permanent ones and must have been there before.

So uh... wolves and health plants?

Whilst you killed quite a few foolish rabbits and defeated a good sum of wild dogs, the mob that you had focused on fighting was the MIGHTY
Level 5 Plains Wolf
…okay they were weak even when compared to the old you (before all the deaths) however they were quite a formidable enemy for the current you that was level one...or at least should be. Normally a battle against an enemy 5 levels higher than you would be quite challenging however it seemed that the odds was against the mangly wolf. Whilst you were only level one, your stats were equal to a level 4 or 5 and than there was the whole massive bonus from Foolish Courage. To make it even worse for the wolf, you could see exactly the amount of health it had left and you would always pick on the wolves who had already somewhat lost health in other fights. To call it a fight would be an insult on fights, it was more of an absolute slaughter. Without mercy you hunted down every wolf you could find and happily gouged out it flesh with your rusted dagger. You were in a somewhat good mood at the ease you are beating a higher levelled opponent before your rusted dagger had broken. After it was broken, you decided to spend the rest of the day focused on attempting to get herblore instead of fighting. It turns out you had a penchant for beneficial plants that healed hp/mana whilst you were somewhat average in other herblore. It seemed that you can’t get your head around poisonous herblore for some reason.
First day results:
+4 levels (you now had your agility stats back and 4 unspent points)
+ a lot of wolf items ranging from fur to teeth to trophy heads to paws
+1 strength
+ Beneficial Herblore health/mana regen (beginner level 1 20%): You are talented so you gain exp significantly faster
+Beneficial Herblore status help (beginner level 1 0%):

-1 water

makeshift weapon wins

You decide that its best to try and fight with the wolvern parts as a makeshift weapon. The sword was too valuable as a quest mcguffin and if the wolf parts fails than you can always fight with your hands. You open your in inventory and quickly summon the wolf fangs along with the wolf guts and what not of the wolf.
Three possible weapons present itself in your mind

>Make a flail with guts and entrails of wolf and head of wolf
>Use the fangs of the wolf as daggers
>Use the guts and entrails of the wolf to make a spear combining the wolf fangs and a stick
>writein

Using the fangs as daggers can be on top of another however you only have two hands. flail and spear are mutually exclusive since both use the guts and entrails of the wolf as string. Unless you're going to roll really really well, you will probably need a good many prototypes and will only be able to make one of the two.

You decide that the best plan in situations like this is to observe and hightail at the first sign of trouble. You gather your things as you crawl under the darkness closer to the players, when you get near them, you make sure to avoid their line of sight as you hide behind a large rock. There are currently 4 players in a small clearing,
>one has a massive claymore and is wearing completely idiotic armour which covers nothing, his hp stat shows to be 320

You decide the best choice in a situation like this is to wait till the red bastards were asleep. That shall be when you "destroy" them and save the girl just like a fairytale story. You remain hidden as the red players chat about meaningless things and laugh with outrageous mirth before they finally begin setting up their items for sleeping by taking out their sleeping bags. 5 minutes later, they are asleep, you are about to start sneaking toward them before you suddenly as if an enemy crit failed hear a trig snapping. You instantly stop moving and with as little movement as possible, you glance to the distance noting that there was a 4th red player who had somehow hidden his username, health (from your glasses) and telltale red symbol from appearing above his head. It seems that these guys had a fourth individual who acted as scout and "protector" of their camp.
It seems that for once, luck was on your side.
You await awhile longer as after a long period of time, the scout finally starts trekking back towards camp whilst yawning, it seems his focus is a bit off now, it would be the best time to take him down, you decide to
>sneak attack him by using whip from distance
>get close and sneak backstab

The scout struggles against the whip for a few minutes before the lack of air seems to be doing him in, he makes an attempt to cut the whip using a knife he had at his side however the cut is not deep enough and within a few more minutes the man is unconscious. You decide that mercy is kind of pointless when the man you're facing has killed before... well at least that's what you try to convince yourself. The more pragmatic part of your heart tells you that you are simply doing this for exp and loot. You stab down the dagger into the man's neck as blood pools out from the artery, however you understand enough from your own experiences that players are basically imba bastards in this world since they won't die even with fatal wounds until their hp drops to zero. So you stab... and stab... and stab as blood pools around you. After 10 or so minutes of non-stop crunching of your knife into the man's neck, the system prompt finally shows

Well at least the system agrees you as you decide to run at full speed out of there whilst attempting to dodge the projectiles and not get caught by the damn claymore… However it seems that no matter how fast you are, the man with the claymore (which you shall now dub the warrior) is significantly faster (its at times like these you wish you hadn’t saved up your stat points). A glance back whilst running shows that the warrior is right at your back swinging his claymore towards your head which…

Misses you by a hair’s chance as you manage to duck just at the last second, however it seemed that it was no ordinary blow (or maybe it was the weapon) since even through you had completely dodged the blade the system prompt still shows

>You have lost 20 hp
>You are suffering from debilitation, massive haemorrhage in ears -10 in agility

And as if to prove the system message, your ears are now bleeding heavily, luckily the pain in this game is muted or otherwise you would be screaming your lung off. You immediately begin running again after dodging the blade, even managing to dodge the arrows and the bolts of ice which passed by your left and right side respectively however… it seems that your balance is off and even through you’re dodging the blows, the claymore warrior bastard is about to catch up. It also seems that the wizard has stopped casting the ice spell and is now charging up for some big-ass spell as is the archer who is holding a single arrow in his bow at full tension without letting go. It seems that they are both charging up for some kind of attack however you can’t give them much focus as the claymore bastard who is now in front of you has your full attention

This is an impossible battle, guess there is only one fucking option... you have to "waste" your wraith dust, with a inward sigh, your fingers dance on the system prompt and summon the wraith dust water bottle within a second... however it seems a second is too long as it gives the warrior in front of you enough time to give you a mild cut across the face which gourges out a good part of your face.

-40 hp (140/200)
>You are suffering from a minor weapon agility curse, agility -5

You of course ignore the damage as well as the agility lost (you're currently in the negatives, what the hell is with this guy and abilities to making you drop agility?) as you open the lid of the water bottle and promptly chuck the wraith dust towards the warrior's face whilst shouting out
"Making me waste my fucking ANTHRAX~!".

Your tackle whilst against a significantly larger and probably stronger target, you were able to easily knock the man down onto the ground due to him being off balance from the wraith dust. The tackle easily makes the man loses his weapon as he flounders his arms in an attempt at retrieving his claymore however you give him no such chance. You quickly make the whip into a noose which you tie around the man’s wide neck and promptly pull. He attepts to struggle however you grab the wolf fang dagger and with a bit of floundering around (you kept missing), you finally manage to dig the dagger into the man’s eyeball popping it as blood and eyeball juices flow down his face. You notice a drop in his health bar however you can’t focus enough to read it. You grin as the warrior curses at you before promptly forcing him to become a shield against… holy fuck, that is one fucking large icicle. The icicle is a few metres in length and is rushing at max speed (think a horse’s gallop) towards you however luckily, you have one large meatshield to take the fall.
The icicle stabs into the warrior as at once, he loses all his remaining health, no system prompt pops meaning that you didn’t get the fucking kill exp/loot however you do notice that your exp bar has moved into the 80%. It seems that whilst you don’t get the rewards, you do at least get some exp for helping kill the warrior. You almost think that you forgot something as something blasts everything below your left shoulder apart. The meatshield that was in front of you was somehow “dodged” by the goddamn bomb of an arrow which you can’t seem to understand how.
Fuck, a quick glance at the system prompt shows you

You suddenly have an epiphany as you realise you still have some days of protection left on the New player title, using your one non-destroyed arm, you quickly equip the new players title, after all it grants protection against PVP right?
>You have gained 1 foolishness
wait what? Why exactly did you gai- you realise that the title does not seem to be equippable. What the fuck? What bullshit is this, you glance at the system prompt in the hopes that you are not getting trolled hard
>This title cannot be worn whilst in combat
... damnit, it'd be fucking nice if this game told you important rules like that BEFORE you tried it or as part of the title's information. You once again curse your lack of research as you realise that your time spent fiddling with titles whilst less than a minute, has given the archer enough to send 3 arrows rushing through the night's sky towards you. Its pure luck that you even noticed them since you were focused on the status screen and title aspects...

>Unconquerable will has activated, you have one final action before you die
You of course choose the most obvious option, you choose to equip the One who welcomes death title before time speeds up again and your body collapses onto the ground. Normally you would be nothing but a corpse now however...
>You have been raised by raise self spell as a lesser zombie, the spell limit is 10 minutes before true death will welcome you to its embrace

You decide that since they probably have never heard of your self-raise skill that they would probably (or rather hopefully) come to loot your body. A minute passes by and nothing occurs, 2 mins pass by and nothing occurs, 3 minut- you hear the footsteps as well as the voices of the archer and mage
"You think he's here for her as well or is he just trying to get rich quick by robbing some red players. I mean man, wish we hadn't picked that girl up" calls out the archer in a suave like voice which you swear would be fitting if he had a goatee.
"Hypocritical bastards the lot of them, "Don't kill others" they sprout whilst they happily come to try and kill us" calls out the wizard in a fake wise voice

>>
>>34337153
You either choose to revive immediately or not. The reason neither of the other two revived immediately was because they were too scared of reviving right next to an enemy, re-spawning is not exactly the fastest process as you appear slowly in a flash of light giving any enemies plenty of time to kill you or substantially damage you.

With the "ease" you had with killing the other two players, neither of them want to risk reviving right now and losing levels and items (red player).
>>
>>34337148

force him to unconsciousness and use a shield. A mage needs time to cast spells but an archer can probably put a bit of a fight in close range. Not to mention an archer can run away faster than a mage.

The wizard looks suprised before his hand moves to click what you presume is one of his spells however with a pull, you drag archer in front of you as if hes a shield... You're really getting good at this whole human meatshield business, hopefully theres a skill related you think as you draw the archer besides you. You quickly stand up behind the archer. The archer attempts to grab a knife from his inventory however you happily bite down upon his bare shoulder where your jaw easily shatter his arm. Seems like theres at least some benefits to being a zombie you think as you grin a blood filled smile at the mage. The mage looks both angry and somewhat fearful as his hand hovers over what you presume is a system prompt to fire magic.
