You are the PRODUCER, a former soldier hired to manage a group of teenage girls on their rise to stardom, assuming they don't get killed in the process!

Currently, you were in the middle of Murphy Memorial Park, located in a pretty nice, upscale area of District 2. At this late morning hour, the park was actually pretty busy, with lots of families milling about and playing the fields and playgrounds.

Of course, you didn't come alone. Rochelle was among the crowd, keeping an eye on the ground level while Morgan was taking care of overwatch on a nearby rooftop. The rest of your idols were off taking care of various small jobs under Jenners' watch.

You were here to meet Dr. Vahlen, one of the head researchers at Umbrella Corp., and one of your possible sources of help solving Belle's problem. However, while you knew how to get her attention convince her to help you, you still weren't quite sure of her loyalties, so you had to be careful how you handled this.

As she had said, Dr. Vahlen is sitting at a bench under the park's central statue, showing some random police officer in a heroic pose. She's in casual clothes, and looks fairly relaxed.

"Rochelle, Morgan, do either of you see anything?"

"Nothing so far." Rochelle whispers. "K-Zwolf's sensors aren't picking up anything unusual either, but there's a lot of people."

"I don't see anything on my scopes." Morgan adds. "Except lots and lots of people. Lots of trees, too, so getting a clean shot is going to be tricky."

Well, so far so good.

OKAY, SO LAST TIME ON CYBERPUNK IDOLS QUEST

THE PRODUCER GOT BACK FROM BOINKING JENNER IN SPACE

IT WAS PROBABLY ASTRONOMICAL AND I AM NOT APOLOGIZING FOR HUMOR

ANYWAY, HE GETS BACK AND FINDS OUT THAT ALL HIS BIDDIES WANNA TALK TO HIM AND ALSO THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION

WOW I WONDER HOW THAT HAPPENED

IT'S A FUCKIN' MYSTERY

SO AFTER CHECKING OUT THE BOMB CRATER HE DECIDED TO GO TALK TO THE SHRINK ABOUT THE MESSAGE HER OLD GIRLFRIEND SENT HER

AND THE BASIC GIST OF THE MESSAGE WAS AS FOLLOWS: "YO, WHAT UP, L-DOG? IT'S YOUR BOY B-FIDDY, IN THE HIZZOUSE. SO I WANTS TO AX YOU A FAVOR. SO IT TURNS OUT BEIN' IMMORTAL AIN'T AS TIGHT AS IT SOUNDS AND EXISTENCE IS PAIN. WOULD YOU MIND ICIN' ME FORREAL? THANKS, BOO."

AND THE PRODUCER WAS LIKE "WHAAAAT" AND LILLITH WAS LIKE "THAT'S WHAT I SAID" AND THE PRODUCER SAID "SO WHATCHA GONNA DO" AND THEN LILLITH SAID "WELL I GUESS I GOTTA ICE HER" AND THEN THE PRODUCER SAID "WHATEVER YOU SAY"

SO THEN ON ANOTHER TOPIC, HE TALKED TO HIS CYBORG TEENAGE COMMANDING OFFICER AND TALKED ABOUT EXPLOSIONS AND RUSSIAN PEOPLE AND TACTICS AND YAAAWN

AND THEN THE PRODUCER TALKED TO SPARKY AND ASKED HER ABOUT THE EXPLOSION AND SHE'S ACTUALLY A PRETTY GOOD LIAR BECAUSE SHE GOT OUT OF THAT SCOTT FREE

SO HE DECIDED TO TAIL HER BECAUSE STALKING TEENAGE GIRLS IS ALWAYS FUN, BUT CHICKENED OUT WHEN SHE MET UP WITH COLE. WUSS

AND THEN HE WENT SHOPPING AND BOUGHT A PLANE. NO BIG DEAL

THEN, NOT SATISFIED WITH JUST JENNER, HE TALKED TO VAHLEN AND ARRANGE A HOOK-UP

ANYWAY, THERE WAS VERY LITTLE FUCKING OR REFERENCE TO FUCKING IN THIS EPISODE, SO YELLINGBIRD'S RATING IS "EH/10"

MAYBE THIS TIME SOMEBODY WILL FUCK SOMEBODY ELSE

OR MAYBE NOT

IT'S A MYSTERY, BUT WE SHOULDN'T ASK THE PRODUCER TO SOLVE IT BECAUSE HE IS A TERRIBLE DETECTIVE
>>
>>34353094
>A PLANE

But we bought a chopper. An attack one at that.

>HORNET ASSAULT VTOL - 12000/800 Upkeep
>A small and fast attack VTOL mainly designed for recon and close air support. Is armed with two vulcan cannons and two rocket pods. Has no transport capacity, but can seat up to four passengers if the weapons are removed.

VTOL is catch all term for anything that can take off vertical. That does include helicopters. Based on we're told of this 'VTOL' it sounds more like an MH/AH-6 Little bird.

"Containment breaches?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Oh, it happens quite often, but it's all all very hush hush. You know, money and lawyers and all that." Vahlen chuckles. "Not something one normally talks about in the open."

Anons, Do Not Trust Tech Firms!
From thread 6:
>Tensions between Cyberdyne and Umbrella Corp are at an all time high with Umbrella's announcement that it has found a cost-effective method to produce biomods (biological modifications), which will directly compete with Cyberdyne's domination of cybernetic augmentations.
Tech firms are the most likely suspect in the death of Mr. Vahlen and the destruction of his research, as they are a rivals in the debate between synthetic & organic mods. They most likely hired Combat Idols years ago instead of Mercs due to the rules of engagement between companies. Those that took the mission are probably enjoying their retirement unless news of Cole’s survival pulls the Veteran Combat Idols back into action to tie up one last loose end.
The question is: How/Why did Cole survive an encounter with Veteran Combat Idols? Was killing a child going too far for them? Did the employer want her? Did the Idols pity her and tried to take her in as one of their own?

Taking her cue, you decide to start getting the subject at hand.

"What do you know about Belle Summerfield?" You ask.

"Ah, our company idol. A very interesting specimen. Her genetics proved surprisingly compatible with our T-Virus prototype."

"T-Virus?" You raise an eyebrow.

"A custom designer Virus, similar to I-Virus. However, the T-Virus was specifically designed to enhance cell regeneration. Thanks to Belle, we were able to perfect the T-Virus formula, and we've incorporated a diluted version of it into all Umbrella care products."

"Among other things." You grunt, remembering those Umbrella manufactured "healing sprays" you were issued in the field.

"Among other things." Vahlen nods.

"But isn't human experimentation illegal? Don't you have any moral quandaries about that?" You ask.

"In this case, Belle volunteered for the testing, or so I was told. I'm not personally in charge of the T-Virus project or her testing." Vahlen sighs. "And you must remember, Delta City is owned by the Corps, not the government. Laws are much more loosely defined."

"So I've seen." You grunt.

"Anyways, why all the interest in her, all of a sudden?" Vahlen raises an eyebrow.

>No reason.

>>
>>34354046
I think Umbrella is a threat in general, and it's better to burn them down, at least for the sake of Cole. We can extract Dr. Vahlen and her work, but it might be best to give Cyberdyne the golden opportunity with the idol's fingerprints to burn Umbrella.

Probably the vast majority of the human population has been exposed to the T-Virus. This can go so wrong so quickly.

If we're worried about Cole we really should start by looking into her legal status. Could Umbrella claim her as property? Could Vahlen claim her as a daughter?

Could we legally adopt her to prevent both of those?
>>
>>34354150
Phressh, does that even matter. They'll easily extract Cole over our dead bodies and then have then lawyers blocking any investigation.

They only understand one thing, power, and the best way to protect Cole is to get another asshole Corp on our side and kill and burn anybody else.

"Both Belle and some interested parties have communicated to me her willingness to leave the idol business... one way or another." You say cryptically, trying to get your point across without outright saying it. "A person in your position, you'd be able to help, right?"

"Hm, possibly." Vahlen gives a slight smile. "What would you like to know?"

"Could Belle survive without her treatments?" You ask.

"Hmmmm, Belle is a unique case because her body has developed a dependency on the T-Virus, since we've been giving her concentrated doses. If she were to stop taking those doses, I'd give her two months before her body begins experiencing catastrophic cellular breakdown with another month of life depending on level of medical care, and yes, it's just as horrifying as it sounds."

"Can it be prevented?"

"Hmmmm, I suppose it's possible to gradually wean her off her dependency, similar to how drug addicts are treated. But that would require months of therapy in a proper medical facility, not to mention access to pure T-Virus stocks."

"So it can be done?"

"Not without significant cost." Vahlen shrugs. "If you can get her away from her overseers, I suppose I can set her up such a facility, but you'd have to do something in return."

"And that would be?" You brace yourself.

"You have two alternatives." Vahlen raises two fingers. "One. You tell me everything you know about Cole, and allow me to do a full medical checkup on her. Or two, you sneak into one of Umbrella's backup data facilities and pull all the data relating to my father's death."

If we can pre-empt any legal grounds for Umbrella trying to take Cole from us (even if we only suspect they'll try at this point) then it's better we do so before they recognise her as a valuable target.

>>34354324
Mmh, but we should check. I don't think we even know who her legal guardian is right now, since Delta City pretends the tombs don't exist. It might be she doesn't have one until someone claims it, or she might have been deliberately abandoned so Umbrella/Vahlen technically already relinquished any legal guardianship.

It's better we take care of things now before finding out by someone coming to collect on our idol.

"Exactly. We both get what we want." Vahlen smiles. "In fact, coincidentally, Belle's villa just so happens to also be holding a backup server, so we can kill two birds with one stone."

"Then can you help us get in?" You ask.

"Of course." Vahlen nods. "But there's only so much I can do before I start drawing attention. What sort of support you want is going to be up to you."

We have a way to an easy out with this medical checkup and interview. Yes, you're keeping Cole safe by not putting her out there, but you're also stunting her growth, not to mention putting out other girls in undue harm. Cole is deprived of getting to know who is essentially her older sister and we're sending out girls against megacorp security--not some fucking gangbangers cooped up on the shipping docks.

"You know, Vahlen, if you want to know about Cole so much, maybe you should take the time to ask her yourself." You say.

"Really?" Vahlen blinks in surprise. "But the deal-"

"Hey, I want to know about Cole's origins just as much as you do." You sigh. "Plus it doesn't really feel right keeping her away from you like this, if you two really are related."

"I.... I don't know what to say."

"A 'thank you' would be enough." You chuckle.

"You... you called me over?" Cole asks, stepping out from where she was keeping an eye on you.

"Hello, Cole. I'm Dr. Vahlen. I'm- er..." Vahlen hesitates.

"She's a big fan of yours." You finish Vahlen's sentence, spare her from any potential awkwardness. "She just really wanted to see you in person."

"Oh, okay." Cole shrugged.

"You're supposed to have a better attitude when around the strangers." You sigh.

"Hey, you said having a lousy attitude was what makes me so popular in the first place!" Cole grunts.

You little argument is broken up by Vahlen's laughter. She laughs uncontrollably for a few seconds until she realizes she's drawing some attention from passersby and she quickly regains her composure.

"Cole, I just one little question." Vahlen says. "Do you remember your childhood? Where you came from? Any family?"

"Not really..." Cole frowns. "I don't really like thinking about that sort of stuff, and I don't really remember anyways. I had a pretty shitty childhood, though. I want to get as far from that as possible."

"Ah, I see." Vahlen sighs. "Well, until we meet again, then."

Vahlen gives you both a wistful, almost sad smile before spinning on her heel and leaving.

"Man, she was kinda weird." Cole frowns. "I mean, weirder than my usual fans."

You head over to your now useful landing pad, where your brand spanking new Hornet Assault VTOL is sitting, ready and waiting to go. Man, it's been a while since you've seen these things in action, and they were always really dependable for recon, CAS, and transport in a pinch.

"Oh, hello Producer!" NEMO chimes as her miniature hologram materializes, "sitting" on the glass of the cockpit. "I was just familiarizing myself with the control systems of this craft!"

"So you can pilot this thing autonomously?" You ask.

"Of course! I was designed to be able to operate any Neucom vehicle, after all!" NEMO says happily. "If you want, I can take you for a test flight?"

Qctually, considering that this is an AI, and this isnt exactly captain's special program, we couls actually train most of the combat idols to be flight trained.

I don't really understand why people are turning down free training for an idol.

It's situational at best, but there's no actual downside to it. It's far more efficient to get training done right now than to waste another update in a weekly series to request training.

>Sorry about the delay, there!

"Nah, I think I'll just ride alone." You say.

"Well, that's fine with me!" NEMO says happily and the cockpit slides open. "Hop on in!"

You jump into the cockpit and strap yourself in.

"Have you ever flown a Hornet, before?"

"Not really. I've just ridden on one, mostly." You shrug.

"Hah, well, let's see if my diagnostics are correct!" NEMO says as the Hornet's engines power up. The craft slowly lifts itself up into the air and it shoots off rather quickly.

"Oops, sorry if I startled you there!" NEMO says apologetically.

"Um... it's all right." You mumble.

The Hornet then begins to perform some basic maneuvers, mostly just circling around the office at varying altitudes. The craft ducks and weaves as NEMO puts it through its paces. However, you do have to admit that the view is pretty great.

"All right, everything is green and A-okay!" NEMO says cheerfully. "How did you like the ride?"

"It was a bit bumpy at first." You say. "but otherwise not bad. Better than Stig, that's for sure."

"Well, you shouldn't get too far ahead yourself. We still have to land!" NEMO points out.

"Oh... right." You gulp.

"And here we go!"

The Hornet then drops precipitously as its speeds for the landing pad.

"Um, NEMO?"

The Hornet still isn't slowing down.

"NEMO!" You cry.

Finally, at what seems like the last second, the Hornet flares and its engines fire up, slowing its descent to safer speeds as it settles on the pad.

"What was that all about?!" You gasp as you clamber out of the cockpit.

"Oh, I thought it would be a funny joke! Stig said you'd like it!" NEMO says, a bit confused.

STIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG!

"Anyways, thanks for the ride." You sigh. "And no more 'jokes', okay?"

"As you wish!"

The first thing you do is go down to the workshop, where Stig is tuning to the SUV. With little warning, you just stomp up and punch him in the gut, causing your driver to bend over in pain.

"You have a terrible sense of humor, you know that?" You grunt.

You then turn and leave the workshop, leaving a stunned Stig and a very confused Falynn.

Your next stop brings you to Lillith's office. As always, she's at her desk, tapping away at her computer. Thankfully, you notice a lot less empty cola cans scattered on her desk.

"Hm, what is it, Producer?" She asks.

"Lillith, I think I might have found a way to get Bell out of this alive." You say with a grin.

"R-really?!" Lillith blinks. "But how...?"

"I made a deal with an Umbrella researcher I know." You say. "We take care of a favor for her, and she's willing to hide and care for Belle once we get her out."

"I... just..." Lillith is speechless. "It almost sounds too good to be true."

"Well, we're going to have to work our ASSES off to pull it off." You sigh. "But yeah, there's some hope there."

"Yeah..." Lillith sighs and leans back in her chair. "Well, the only thing that might screw this up is if Belle still wants to go through the original plan."

"Why would she?" You blink.

"Because she's extremely stubborn." Lillith sighs.

"Believe me, I think I've got some experience dealing with stubborn women." You laugh.

"Maybe you do." Lillith sighs. "But... if it comes down to it. If she wants to end right there... would you do it?"

She can't do it herself, that's the point of this mission. This is basically a mercy killing. I'm not saying we shouldn't try to save her, but if push comes to shove, we have to respect the wishes of that person and do what we have to do.

As for the girls, if we haven't told them already, we should have a little meet up and explain that, this mission may require killing a friendly/mercy killing, if we are unable to save her. Because we only have one shot at this. And if it comes to it, and things go south, someone has to make the call.

You know, if it actually comes to that, we ought to consider using the whole mind override function of the Harbinger to do the deed ourselves. Yes its not a pretty option but if the alternative is having one of our idols preform an assisted suicide we should at least consider the option.
>>
>>34359116
That just brings more issues than I would care for.
>>
>>34359116
It's a shame we can't just upload her into a clone or something.
>>
>>34358972
I'm not worried about the things we do after if we do get her outta there, it's the actual act of getting her out. I'm not saying that we don't have a way to help her after we get her out. If we get her out that is.

The argument here is that I am not willing to risk the live of our own girls to save the life of someone who doesn't want to be saved in the first place. We got to think of our girls as well.

We are going to try and save her, but we will uphold our deal and respect her wishes if the time comes.

>>34358953
The meeting is a necessity. Don't want to have to tell them right then and there during the mission without warning.

>>34359116
Exactly, we don't like it, in fact no one does, but if we have to do it, we should be prepared to do so.
>>
>>34359130

Having any of our idols shoot an unarmed civilian, even if she wants it, is more issues than we need already. Relieving them from any responsibility might actually help here.
>>
Wait a fucking minute. If we kill her (in private) does that incur the wrath of the other idol companies?
>>
>>34359184
One. It was still done by their hands whether or not they were in control. Two. The impact of such thing might very well magnified on them because of it. Three. It would freak the other girls out doing such a thing.

If you want not to kill her. The gag and bag her out of the house and we put a hole in her head ourselves not jumping into someone to do it.
>>
>>34358618
"I'll respect her wishes." You sigh. "But really, I hope it's not going to come to that."

"Me too." Lillith sighs. "I'm really sorry that you're getting tangled in all of this."

"No, no, it's fine." You say. "I can't just stand by and let a girl be exploited. Especially if she's a friend of one of my staff."

"Ha, you almost sounded a little cool there." Lillith chuckled.

"Well, I try." You grin as you turn to leave. "Anyways, you know me, always got something to do. I'll see you later."

You leave Lillith's office and make your way to the Danger Room, where the Captain is. Of course, she's busy training, doing her marksmanship this time.

"So, I notice you got a new gunship." She says simply.

"Yeah, we do." You nod. "Interested?"

"More of a soldier than a pilot." Captain shrugs. "Anyways, what are you going to use it for this mission? Fire support or transport?"

You pause to think about it. The Hornet can certainly bring a LOT of firepower, but it could also provide a huge tactical advantage by being able to carry your idols pretty much anywhere...

I dunno if that would work man, the technical logistics involved seem to be far to complex to make this a realistic option this close to the fight. But if its at all possible hell yeah do it. Or even better, network with the gunship to rain precision AP rounds through the warehouse roof.

"I trust Melissa not to do anything stupid, but I'll go talk to her anyways." You say.

"I think that's a good idea. Make sure we're all on the same page, here." The Captain nods.

You head up the dorms, this time, where you manage to catch Melissa in the lounge with Niko and Julie, watching random TV shows.

"Melissa, can I have a word with you?"

"Ooooooh, looks like Mel is in trouble!" Niko coos.

"The only one who'll be in in trouble is you if you don't shut it." Melissa grunts.

"Whoa, just joking!" Niko laughs.

"Ugh." Melissa rolls her eyes and walks up to you. "What is it, Producer?"

"Well, we're going to be hitting those Russian mercs soon, and I just wanted to make sure that we're all on the same page, here." You say.

"I remember the promise I made." Melissa sighs. "I'll make sure to stay on mission, not revenge."

"Good. I just wanted to see if you remembered." You nod.

"But that still doesn't mean I won't crush that bastard's skull if I get the chance." Melissa says, tightening her augmetic hand into a fist.

"I wouldn't have it any other way." You laugh.

Suddenly, your comm buzzes as the Captain calls you.

"My contacts just came in. They're going to be moving soon. We'll have to go tonight."

"All right." You nod and switch to your girls' comm frequencies. "Girls, get geared up and ready. We're moving out tonight."

>And that's it for tonight! Sorry we're ending a little earlier than usual, but it seemed like a natural endpoint. We'll be getting to the fighting proper next week! Don't forget PJ Witches on Sunday and Gundam Build Fighters on Friday!
