You are Sireyi Valyenya, 20 years old, you have been made into a Baroness, and given lands on the border of the kingdom.
You’re busy solving the problems only a ruler can solve.

You decide that finding this wayward dragon living in the mountains near your Barony is your next task.

You start talking to people about where the dragon has been sighted, and when, and start plotting it on a map. The dragon sightings are infrequent, sometimes there’s several in a single day, at other times a month could pass before you hear anything.

The confusion about the dragons colour is cleared up as a result: Based upon the pattern of sightings, there’re two dragons.

They appear to have separate, but overlapping territories. Based upon the sightings you have an adult red dragon, and a younger silver dragon.

[Metaquest note: Red Dragons are usually, but not always evil, Silver dragons are usually, but not always good. Even a good dragon can be aggressive and territorial, and may see humans as not much better than animals.]

After several months you have narrowed down the dragons territories and are ready to search them out.
>>
[Metaquest Post]

Made a few changes to Root of All Life.

Updated character sheet with Celestial Iron and Sanctuary.

Updated Realm sheet. Maths was mostly correct, except for my maths, since the cost of Church of Konig reduced due to Sofia’s presence. I recalculated everything myself just to be sure. Please check for errors of course.

Included in this is some of the *extras* such as the ogres.

Which do you seek out first?

And who do you take with you?

Please limit additional party members to no more than 3.

And how will you find this dragon?

You have a good idea of their territory, and might be able to find their lair.
Or you could wait nearby for another sighting and confront them
Or you could use magic to find them (optional)

Some more things I thought about since last time: The cool-down on eating storms for for exp was a year, wasn't it? We should do that when we are out filling our storm-node. Could we eat storms that we have created ourself?

Can effects of spells and magic items stack? For example, would Sireyi benefit from having an item with Sanctuary on it while also casting it herself?
>>
You’ve also been spending a lot of time with Sofia and Jal, getting to know them better. The two of them are very open to the idea of a relationship with you.
Whilst it’s clear to anyone who sees the three of you together, that you are in a relationship, you are taking it slow.
Despite Jal being a little pushy, the physical side of your relationship hasn’t progressed very far, you want to make sure that both her and Sofia are comfortable with you, and that you won’t come between them.

You also spend a lot of time with Mili and Vivi, watching them grow up, seeing them learn about the world. To the kids, you, Sofia and Jal are all *mama* with your names as suffixes – or as much as they can pronounce of your name. They call you “Mama Reyi”.

Ebonsong has grown a lot over the last year, she’s the size of a large horse, and too big to fit in your bedchambers, resulting in her sleeping in the stables, with a lot of whining.

Fortunately her control over her magical powers has also increased. She is able to cast simple spells, and can shapeshift, sort of.

Her best attempt at a human shape is that of a half-dragon/half-human. In this form she appears to be a 10 year old half-dragon girl, complete with wings, scales, claws and a tail. She wants to be involved in everything, and begs and pleads to come with you as you prepare to hunt down the other dragons.

“No” you say to her firmly “And that’s final” She stalks off in a sulk as you prepare to scry out the lair of the silver dragon.

Please roll 1d20+13 for scrying

>Why can't she sleep in our bedchamber in her human form ?

I'm guessing this has to do with the "sort-of" clause.
>>
>>34409780
>she’s the size of a large horse, and too big to fit in your bedchambers
How small are those bedchambers? I know I could fit a horse into my room if I really cared and I'm not a Baroness. Couldn't we just get a bigger room (or better yet get the girl her own room close by)?
>>
>>34409851
I thought that refered to the fact that she still looks very draconic.

It wasn't meant very serious, but it seems unfair to me that someone of the intelligence of a young child should sleep in the stable, like a horse. That isn't right in my book, so either she gets her own bedroom, probably necessary later anyway, or we have to find her a furnished lair in the dungeons of the castle or something.
>>
Your scrying spell easily bypasses the basic protections this young dragon has taken. You see the silver dragon asleep in a cave, on a small bed of gold coins, he (she?) matches the descriptions given, a juvenile dragon perhaps 12ft long.

You widen the scope of the spell and see that her lairs layout is fairly basic: an entrance at the top that can only be entered by flying (or a very skilled climber), as well as several passages leading off into smaller caves that could be used for a smaller dragon to hide from a larger one.

The side passages may also be secondary entrances/exits.

Widening it further, you manage to locate the lair in the mountains. Since you’re going alone, going in through the main entrance would be easy, or you could try to locate the (possible) side-exits.

[Metapost]

Ebonsong clarification

What I meant to convey (but didn't), was that she's too big to fit in your bed, and getting in and out of your bedchambers is tricky. She can change shape, but it takes her several minutes to do so, so she normally doesn't bother unless she really needs to.

She's at that age where she's big enough to be a target in a fight, but not yet tough enough to fight effectively against many of the foes you face. Taking her into fights at this point would be a bad idea.

The stables is a temporary measure, until you figure out permanent.

>>34409851
I can imagine her accidentally shifting back and causing damage in sleep.

I think she needs space in order not to destroy anything, and if destroyed less harm is done.

>>
>>34409996
That isn't at all necessary, dating Sofia/Jal doesn't preclude Isla, just for the immediate future we have a different relationship to develop.
>>
>>34410000
I counted the votes for "Isla, but Sofia and Jal are okay I guess." as votes primarily for Isla. Because that's what they obviously were.
>>
>>34410024
That was my vote. I wanted Isla, but was okay with the other two to avoid this.

Isla - 4
Isla/All Three - 1

Two of the Isla votes were okay with Sofia/Jal and the 'All Three' vote was made in response to someone voting for Isla, stating that they would also be sad if we don't date Isla.
So it's kind of a tie.

>>34410065
You missed a vote, it was pretty close to the end and didn't use greentext.
>>
You teleport to the general area in the mountains and fly towards the young dragons lair. Once you are outside you announce yourself in a loud voice.

“I am Baroness Sireyi Valyenya” you say “Paladin of Velya, and I would like to speak to you, please.”

You wait for several minutes.

An unseen voice answers you “Who?” the voice is clearly draconic, and what living with two dragons, you think the voice sounds feminine rather than masculine.

You repeat your introduction.

“How do I know this isn’t some sort of trick of Harugrads?” asks the voice

“Who’s Harugrad?” you ask.

There’s a pause, and then the head and neck of a silver dragon rises out of the rock, right where the top entrance is. She must be clinging to the side of the rock, ready to flee up or down at a moments notice.

“He’s the red that says he owns this part of the mountains” says the young silver dragon “Don’t you know anything?”

“I didn’t know that” you admit

“Why are you here, what do you want?” She, yes, definitely she, asks.

>Who are you?
>Ask about Harugrad
>I own this land
>I seek an alliance
>You’re raiding my villages, this needs to stop

[Metapost, Borders: Your borders with baronies in Dornmer are clearly defined, your border with the orc tribes are not, as far as the Kingdom of Dornmer is concerned, you own as much of these mountains as you can defend. The common folk seem to think the border is where the hills stop, and the mountains begin – you are currently beyond that point.

Relationships: One at a time. Isla lost to Jal and Sofia by a very narrow vote. Isla will still be an option for next years vote, she is not ruled out. First you need to see how you get on with Jal and Sofia, then you’ll think about adding someone else.]

While I heavily dislike that expansion, and will vote against purchasing RoaL, if we do get it, I could see Sireyi using it to give some unfortunate pair that can't have children, or maybe peole in the position that Sofia was in, a child. Maayyybe.
>>
>>34410103
>I personally just wanted to tr a relationship with the mothers of our children first.
And I personally considered that entire slog through the other plane to be an incredibly annoying waste of time. To me Isla is by far the most important, she isn't secondary in any way.
>>
>>34410121
>I'd argue that it was a tie, actually.
It was not at all. It Isla tied with Sofia/Jal alone, even considering a nestled vote, which I would usually discount, several Isla votes said all three, even if reluctantly.
And I wouldn't go so far to say automatically, if she really is all that popular, than she has good chances I would say.

>>34410138
Others disagree. It is as it is.
But to be fair, I didn't njoy the other plane adventure all that much either. Sofia/Jal and Ebonsong are the good things that came of it in my eyes.

Just for clarification, do you have something against the expansion itself, or is it more the main power that you disagree with?

Personally, I have nothing against it and wouldn't mind using it to have children with Isla or another of our lovers, but I fear what people will do with it, or try to do with it.

None. Isla lost a perfectly fair vote, and we had already voted a long time ago to give Jal/Sofia a chance so its perfectly reasonable that they come first.

>>34410172
>do you have something against the expansion itself
I have something against the ideas that seem to sorround it , honestly.

>>34410187
Considering that Jal and Sofia are literally the mothers of our children, she is already second. Htough I doubt that matters much to Sireyi and the three who "came first", since Sofia and Jal already have eachother, so Isla will have plenty Seiryi to herself.
>>
>>34410187
Best option for that at this stage is probably to stall things with Jal & Sofia until it becomes an issue. Complaining on the sidelines isn't going to win the swing vote, especially when a re-vote isn't being held.
>>

>>
>>34410187
I don't want to either, but I'd like to think she'd understand that we wanted to cement a relationship with the mothers of our children.

>>
>>34410209
No she won't. Not anymore than she had been for a long time. And I doubt Isla is so narrow she ca't see why Sireyi would take interst in a relationship with Sofia/Jal first, its pretty obvious.

>>34410220
>to stall things with Jal & Sofia until it becomes an issu
Why ? Seriously, why this pettiness ?
Stalling things with Sofia/Jal just means Isla won't get a chance at all, since Sireyi now has a relationship with them and will want to see that one firm, before making another one. The best option for Isla fans is to have Seiryi/Sofia/Jal develop quickly, so they will faster feel comfortable with a fourth partner.
>>
>>34410237
>miscount due to nested or vague votes.
I hope thats a incentive for people to stop making vague or nested votes.
Your actual vote should be greentexted and the commentary should be normal beneath it, to make sure it won't be confused with the vote. Its not hard to do.
>>
“Might I ask” you say “Whom I have the honour of addressing?”

“I” she says “Am Nicolvren” as she speaks she crawls out of her cave and walks towards you, towering over you.

“And what” she asks “Are you? I’ve never seen a winged human before.”

“I’m a half-angel” you say “And I don’t understand, you said Harugrad claims this is his territory, and yet you live here?”

“He’s slow and stupid and easily tricked” she says “He can’t find my lair and I always spot him before he spots me – he’s said he’ll kill any dragon that trespasses on his land.”

Hmm, you’d best make sure Ebonsong and Shahulzer know about that, Shahulzer can handle himself in a fight against another dragon, but Ebby...

“Both of you” you say “Have been raiding my villages, I need this to stop.”

“Your villages?” she asks “How can they be your villages? I’ve never seen you there.”

“The King of Dornmer made me Baroness of these lands” you explain “The people in it are my responsibility.”

“Well” she says “you clearly aren’t doing a very good job, if you’re not there when I go to collect a few sheep. If the humans there can’t protect their animals, and if you’re not around, then the sheep deserve to be taken.”

“Just because someone isn’t around” you say “Doesn’t mean they relinquish ownership – what if I were to sneak into your lair and steal your hoard whilst you were away, would that be ok?”

“Just try it!” she snarls, her wings rising above her to make herself look bigger.

“I have no plan to” you say “I was just making a point.”

Her brow furrows as she thinks about this, finally she speaks

“Fine, ok, what do I get if I stop taking your humans sheep?”

How about a sort of mercenary deal. She gets some stuff from the villages (without retribution), in exchange she helps defend this part of the border against orcs. If she needs help against other powerful beings encroaching in her territory, we help her (if we're here).

If there's a fight, remember to use the lightning core.

I think thats the wrong way to look at it. Seiryi is now already in a relationship with the two. Going for Isla after that failed would just make her "second choice" after she couldn't get the first one. Its a lot better if Seiryi does sucesfully develop her relationship further with them and then still thinks of Isla and wants to involve her. That way its Seiryi putting her childrens mothers first, but still showing feeling for Isla, rather than taking her after the other thing failed.

“And how will you do that?” she scoffs “You don’t look like you could scare him off.”

“I was thinking I could talk to him” you say “work out a compromise, this region is big enough for both of you, he doesn’t need to try and chase you off.”

She smirks “I’d like to see you try that” she says “The only thing he understands is force, besides, even if the territory is split, most of the humans will be in my part. Their sheep are pretty tasty.”

“Chasing penned animals is beneath a hunter like yourself” you say, appealing to her pride “I bet you could catch much wilder game.”

“True” she says “Very true. I am a great hunter.”

“And” you say “It is the right thing to do, taking what belongs to others is wrong.”

She screws up her face, trying to disagree “But they have so many” she says, “Are they really going to miss just one?”

“They’re not that bad at counting” you say “But if finding food is an issue...well I was also thinking about an alliance between us, you help me, I help you, that sort of thing.”

She considers this “Maybe” she says “It depends if you manage to convince Harugrad to leave me alone.”

When you're on to denouncing pettiness and sabotage, you're offended. And the quest information -

>The physical side of your relationship is limited to kissing, cuddling and caressing, you’re not ready for anything more yet.

- doesn't suggest that Sireyi's relationship with Jal and Sofia is particularly carnal.

>>34410462
Depends on what comes up. I don't intend to vote for some random about-face, if that's what you're asking.
>>

>>
>>34410502
Not really no, I was just expressing my opinion on that practice. Just like you were expressing your opinion on this vote. I don't ask why you find this vote outcome so offensive, do I ? Because having a aopinion isn't being offended.

And kissing and caressing is not platonic anymore. Platonic would mean no romantic touching at all, since platonic love is defined as love without the physical.
>>
>>34410464
>Ask her where his lair is.
>Mention that there are two other dragons with us, they are friends and won't try to take her territory. Briefly describe them.
>>
>>34410502
There are levels between platonic and carnal.

That's not my intent, I meant more that the middle option is to include Isla once the relationship with Jal/Sofia reaches a certain point.

Because that's what my intent is, and I was one of the Isla votes.
>>
>>34410522
If you don't care who comes first, then why don't we deal with Isla first, then Sofia and Jal. It shouldn't matter to you right?
>>
>>34410546
>If you don't care who comes first
But I never said that. I do care that Sofia/Jal come first, because they have born Seiryi literal children. That makes a relationship with them a priority above any puppy crushes Isla might have, which are very adorable, true, but don't really measure up by comparison in my eyes.

I have no problem with involving Isla once our relationship with Sofia/Jal has developed to tht point.
Hell, given that they already have eachother too, unless Isla devlops feelings for them, it pairs up pretty well as I see it.
>>
>>34410522
>I don't ask why you find this vote outcome so offensive, do I ?

Actually, it was asked, though perhaps you're not >>34410245 and didn't write

>Why ? Seriously, why this pettiness ?

As for the split hair, you're presenting my qualified statements as unqualified, probably due to skim-reading. To clarify, "never really got past platonic" and "not particularly carnal" are not the same as "never got past platonic" and "not at all carnal".
>>
“It seems I need to talk to Harugrad” you say, rising into the air “I’ll be back once I’ve spoken to him.”

“You do that” she says “And don’t die.”

“There are two other dragons in my barony” you say, describing Ebonsong and Shahulzers appearance “They might pass through, but they are not going to try and take your territory or attack you.”

“I’ll keep an eye out for them” she says “If they don’t bother me, I won’t bother them.”

According to Nicolvren, Harugrad is a bit more aggressive than her, how will you find his lair?
You have a good idea of his territory, and might be able to find his lair just be searching.
Or you could wait nearby for another sighting and confront him
Or you could use magic to find him (optional)

>Search for lair

You could approach the main entrance, or you could try to locate the (probable) secondary exits.

>>
>>34410588
Your statement of "not carnal" was in direct response of it being past platonic.
And yes it is past platonic, even though its not carnal so your statement was either wrong or a meaningless qualifier that it would have to be carnal for the relationship to be serious.

The question after Why the pettiness, isn't at all the same as implying someone is offended. In opposite actually, it shows the other one doesn't assume you are offended, otherwise that would be the answer to that question.
>>
>>34410535
I agree with the "levels between" comment, hence the qualifiers above.

>That's not my intent, I meant more that the middle option is to include Isla once the relationship with Jal/Sofia reaches a certain point.

>>
>>34410584
>hat makes a relationship with them a priority above any puppy crushes Isla might have, which are very adorable, true, but don't really measure up by comparison in my eyes.

Thats true for most of our companions. Also Isla is both being protected by us and she already had a crush on Seiryi. Thats not xactly low motives, but she doesn't support us selflessly, she does want to get kids here, as we know for a fact.
>>
>>34410655
>I don't see how ? I just make my preference clear, and say why I have it. Morals don't figure into this discussion at all.
Then why have you been lecturing them on How They're BAD for having nested votes, or for wanting a revote. That they Deserve to loose for arguably being slightly vague, and now they have to just deal with it.
>>
>>34410632
Feel free to do so. But Isla always had a crush on Seiryi, so its not exactly "selfless".
We don't "owe" her a romantic relationship just because she is a good friend. While having given someone children, even by accident, does carry a responisbility in my eyes, and setting wise, in the eyes of Velya.

Ah, I'm sorry. English, is not my first language, and I suppose, when trying to argue in writing, I may come acros a bit stilted when trying to be precise.

To make it completly clear. I am in favor of a relationship with Isla, but personally found Sofia and Jal come first, due to the children, which should grow up with a close family around them. Thats why Isla could wait, in my eyes and the others can't, I have no issue with someone seeing it different. Just with complaining about miscounts and the like to make Isla "first girl".

>>34410738
Considering we had repeadetly problems of miscounts because of misunderstood votes and nestled votes, I think thats a fair reminder.

And since I never said anything of "daring to do X" and at most asked, why do you want x, yeah, your statement was pretty random.
>>
All this can be solved by accidentally getting Isla pregnant.

>And since I never said anything of "daring to do X" and at most asked, why do you want x, yeah, your statement was pretty random.
No, you've been pretty negative towards people who wanted a revote due to vague votes. Or to people who believe Isla should be first, saying you can't possibly understand why someone would want that or care (which in English frequently amounts to calling someone an idiot, usually in a smug manner), while wanting the opposite.
So double standard, plus insulting your debate opponent.

Harugrads protections against scrying are more advanced than those of Nicolvren, and it takes you almost half an hour to gently pry them apart and see within his lair.

He is asleep on a larger hoard, and is sleeping deeply, there’s blood on his jaws and what looks like the remains of several cows nearby. He’s pretty big, bigger than Shahulzer, maybe 30ft in length.

Expanding your spell to view his lair you see that it’s larger and more complex than Nicolvrens, there’s side passages, what look like false hoards, side chambers and a number of traps.

He also has a main entrance that opens upwards, but his is a long twisted, tapered passageway that (for a dragon) seems quite tight at the end that his lair is at: another dragon entering his lair would be almost helpless against an attack.

The other end of the passage, opening to the sky, is large and would be easy for a dragon to move in.

You keep your approach as before: walking up to the entrance and announcing yourself loudly and waiting.

You have to keep shouting for almost an hour before a sleepy-looking red dragons head and neck pops into view.

“Who are you? What do you want?”

“I am Baroness Sireyi Valyenya” you say “Paladin of Velya, and I would like to speak to you, please.”

“Go away” he says grumpily “I’ve just had a lovely meal, and I’m tired.”

“I want to talk to you about the villages you’ve been raiding and-whoa!”

You jump back and take flight as he responds to your words with a blast of flame, singing you slightly.

(HP 54/58)

Lucky you move so fast otherwise you’d have caught the full brunt of that, rather than just the edges of it.

“Go away” he repeats, adding “Otherwise I’ll make you dessert.”

If she tries to initiate dating on her own, sure why not. She has become more confident in the past, and if Sofia/Jal have no problem with it, and I still don't see a reason why they would, there is no reason to refuse her.
Hell, she actually has already taken the initiative, she made it pretty clear she wants to have Seiryis beautiful children too.
I don't think 1 and 2 are exclusive though, just reversed in the parings. With Sofia/Jal we got 1 first and now do 2. With Isla it will be the other way around.

I don't exactly expect Seiryi to marry Jal/Sofia in order to find another partner okay. It can happen long before then.
Its normal that a relationship in its early stages requires more time to grow than later, so once our relationship witht he two has advanced, there is defintily a lot of Seiryi for Isla around. Especially since they still have eachother to spend time with.

You also see Harugrad, snarling in pain, one shoulder a charred and burned mess, his left forelimb hanging limp rather than curled up beneath him like the other.

“Oh” he snarls “You will pay for that, indeed you shall.”

“At least you’re taking me seriously now” you shoot back.

He circles, trying to gain height, though to what purpose you don’t know.

His flight speed is maybe half yours, if he pushed himself, and you’re far more agile, he can’t escape you.

Harugrad flees higher, you see him making passes in the air with his one good forelimb and there is a burst of what looks like lightning surrounding him briefly, then it’s gone.

Well, no matter, he’s coming down now.

You draw upon your storm elemental heritage and a powerful column of wind centred on Harugrad blows straight down, forcing him to the ground. He flaps desperately, trying to stay in the air, but still he falls.

(DE 18/35)

He hits hard, rolling across the rockface before stopping. He’s down, but he’s not out.

He scrambles to his feet and roars up at you. His wings look damaged, but not so bad he can’t fly, were it not for your powers.

You keep the wind on him, making sure he stays on the ground.

With Harugrad grounded, you decide to end this, you swoop down and breathe a gout of acid over him, and the same time you quick-cast a spell, trying to take his sight from him.

As you swoop in close he breathes another gout of fire at you.

You easily dodge the cone of fire his sends your way and hit him square in the face with your attack.

(AE 34/48)

He roars in pain, thrashing his head back and forth, scrabbling at his face with his one good forelimb, ignoring you for several minutes, allowing you to get your breath back.

(HP 38/58)

Once he finally stops thrashing his starts sniffing the air, trying to locate you, he gives another blast of fire in your direction, but it misses by a dozen feet.

Seems he can’t see, and with all the wind around, can’t locate you perfectly with his sense of smell either.

“I’m going to find” you he threatens, turning in circles “I’m going to kill everyone you ever loved!”

Yet his still using chromatic dragons with the same breath, same alignment/nature. An assumption of cold is effective against fire is relatively safe. Especially when lightning strikes still cauterize wounds, a cold breath should technically cause frost.
>>
>>34412030
Again, these are all assumptions.

Chromatic/Metallic dragons are present in dozens of settings which almost everyone is familiar with, it doesn't mean that he didn't change anything about them.

I like to alter well-known monster's abilities/statistics/appearances to subvert expectations sometimes, we don't know that OP isn't doing something similar.

It also didn't mention cold weakness in what we know about red dragons, which is normally one of the most well-known things about them.
If it wasn't there, they might not have that weakness at all.
>>
>>34412021
Okay this is just getting creepy now.
>>
>>34412079
Not as creepy as the time all four dice were some variation of '13'.
>>
>>34412076
Yet a cold breath would still slow down the dragon through lower temps and frost. This is my main point not the weakness. Even without a weakness the additional effects would still be in effect just like our blinding breath.
>>
>>34412111
If the additional effects are actually there.

They might not be, or the dragon might have a high enough body temperature due to whatever reaction allows it to breath fire that the frost melts and the temperature lowering is negligible.

In the same way cold can beat fire, fire can easily beat cold, and we don't know which way it goes in this setting.
>>
>>34412137
The effects of the breath scale to the amount of AE used and if aspect is up. This is in the pastebin. So the effects should at least show up and effect the battle, just like our blind breath in which we used 10AE. A greater amount would definitely show an effect.
>>
>>34412137

Well, if Sireyi doesn't remember this trivia from her lessons, the only way to find out is to try.

You swoop down and touch him on the shoulder, pouring divine and arcane energy into him, showing him all the harm he’s caused over his long life, the deaths, the suffering, the mayhem, making him understand the consequences his actions have had on others.

(DE 5/15, AE 18/48)

He twists and thrashes, unwilling to accept what he’s seeing, and then goes still.

“Did...did...was that me?” he asks quietly.

You wait, wondering if it has worked.

“No, NO!” he bellows, swiping at you with his one good claw, trying to grab you, you fly back out of his reach.

“I am Harugard, I am the Burning Terror, I will destroy you, how dare you do that to me, how dare you make me like those puny crawling creatures called man. I will BURN YOU!!!”

So what you're saying is you want to overcharge an attack that might have lessened effectiveness relative to the amount of AE invested for no valid reason whatsoever.

It also might just affect the damage and area, you know, the same as our acid breath attack from which you're drawing the information.

There's still absolutely nothing indicating that it would have a bonus effect aside from the modification of the element.

Actually, the fact that we get three possible elements with that spell while every other bonus effect takes it's own spell would indicate to me that we don't get bonus effects from modification of the element.

Well, to be fair assuming he's smart enough to counter cage with teleport, we've both just wasted an action. But if he's not smart enough for that, he might end up locked in for a while, or even choking on his own flame breath.
>>
>>34413060
What if he upgraded his Dimension Door to be a swift action?
What then, anon?
He instantly escapes forcecage and kills everyone anyway, that's what.

>>34413060

I guess this is a lesson that Redeeming Touch with the intent of loot-hoarding converted enemies isn't a good idea.

>>

Delaying is the entire pint so people can get away. Thats the entire fucking idea. Lightningbolt might not kill him, in fact, very likely will not kill him, and then we are fucked. Especially since we have far more AE than DE.

Lightning Bolt it is, roll 1d20+13 and chose how much extra DE is used

You can't reason witht he unreasonable. We have a massive AE pool, force cage would block his breath. There was no reason not to use it to make sure he can't kill anyone. Except absolute retards going "muuh lightning".

>>34413212
That was my suggestion at the beginning of the first fight.
>>
>>34413187

That's Autism Anon for you. He's pretty smart, but gets awfully enraged when things don't go his way.
I don't think spell turning works on dragon's breath weapon though, plus we'd need to cast it on his target even if it did.
>>
>>34413212
My mistake, most iterations I've seen used of D&D or D&D like rule sets have had Draconic breath weapons act as a spell or otherwise magic based and subject to most magic/spell/caster rules.

>>
>>34413263

Oh? In that case I apologise for the confusion.
>>
>>34413273
1: calm down
2: the dragon can teleport
3: a dead dragon can attack
>>
Either way. Using Lightning as opposed to force cage, Dimension door, or even attempting sanctuary on the court yard (Although that may take a turn and as such is useless) is a bad plan in my, and a few other opinion. I digress, too late now.
>>
>>34413325
Can't
>>
>>34413325
>the dragon can teleport
Waht about the force cage stopping the breath attack RIGHT NOW. Do you not understand ? I bet you are one of those idiots that voted for force cage against the sorcer because you didn't know ths shit and just can't get into strategic objectives. Even if he teleports out, his breath attack is negated, which is the entire point of the exercise.
>>
>>34413360
for the record i wanted to zap the guy and i agree force cage would stop the breath weapon once, but the dragon can teleport and escape force cages so he could just attack again next round.
>>
>>34413391
But next round we can move too, and its one round people have to get away. Ypu guys should start thinking about this fight not nhappening in a limbo, saving the people from this breath attack should have been No.1 priority. Risking their lives on a lucky shot is absolutely idiotic. Force cage would have always prevented him from attacking him right NOW and saved these peoples lives. Now we can just hope he was still wounded enough.
>>
>>34413360
Actually, with how much we've overcharged the Lightning Bolt, average damage is about 300-350.
That means he'll be taking that much damage immediately, which should at least stun him if not kill him outright.

Force Cage would've held him off for one turn, then he'd just do the same thing the next turn, this might hold him off for one turn or at least make him face the bigger threat (us).

In addition, if this can't kill him, we stand very little chance of actually winning this fight regardless.

It likely will, however, given that we had him on the ropes after a few far weaker attacks and he hasn't fully recovered.
>>
>>34413438
>Force Cage would've held him off for one turn, then he'd just do the same thing the next turn
And ? Teleport costs more AE than force cage, and we got reinforcements, he would have been welcome to try.

And he has already determined to murder our loved ones, and thats what he is going to do. Threat doesn't figure into it, he knows we will fuck his shit up.
>>
You pour as much power as you dare into your lightning bolt, going dizzy as you sacrifice your own health to boost your powers.

(DE 0/35, HP 12/58)

Your lightning bolt hits Harugard in the middle of the back and he roars, his roar soon turning into a scream of pain, and his smoking corpse falls from the sky, trailing fire.

The 30ft-long dragon hits the outer wall of the stronghold at speed, smashing into it.

Rubble and rocks fly everywhere, your troops scattering in panic.

You fly down as fast as you can, pushing yourself to the limit, you see your troops standing around in shock, wandering what just happened.

“Jal! Sofia!” you bark at them “Where are they?”

“In the keep milady” says one, pointing with a shaking finger.

You rush into the keep only to see Sofia and Jal putting Vivi and Milli to bed, though the noise of the dragon demolishing the east wall woke them up again.

“Velya be praised!” you say, hugging them both “I’m so glad you’re ok.”

“Of course we’re ok” says Sofia, trying to hug you and hold Milerna at the same time.

“Yeah” says Jal, performing a similar feat of dexterity “What happened out there?”

You explain in between gasps on breath, your heart rate slowing.

“I’m glad you’re ok” says Sofia “But we really need to check on the soldiers, someone could have been hurt.”

As the two of you hurry down to the courtyard, Jal gets in a parting comment “Yeah, and the next time someone threatens Vivi or Milli, don’t hesitate, just” and she draws a finger across her throat in a clear symbol of murder.

Dozens of your troops were injured by flying rock, some quite badly, but between Sofia and you, no one is dead, thank Velya.

Your close friends were nowhere near the falling dragon.

Once we have 'summon dragon' can we key it to specific dragons we know? Them make it insta-cast and the next time this happens we just sick our own group of dragons on the enemy.

After staying at the stronghold to be near your family for a while, as the wall is rebuilt, you contemplate your next task, the mysterious Clithenwald Forest, as well as what you want to do about the Silver dragon Nicolvren.

You’ll need to go into the forest to take a look around. You’ve tried scrying but some parts of the forest seem clear, and utterly mundane, and other parts are hidden from you, it’s clear magic is at work in some fashion.

Contain your arrogance.

You return to speak to Nicolvren, politely announcing yourself at the entrance to her lair again. Once again her head pops out of the ground.

“What? What, oh it’s you, Sireyi right?” She says “How did your *talk* with Harugard go?” she asks with a smirk.

“Harugard is dead” you say “I killed him.”

“You’re kidding!” She replies, clambering out of her hole “You’re kidding? You can’t, I mean, wha- how...?”

You explain what happened, she keeps interrupting to add comments like “Yup, sounds like that idiot” or to ask questions.

Once you’ve convinced her, she seems a bit more wary of you.

“So, like, what do you want with me? I mean, if you can kill dragons like him, you don’t need me?”

What are you asking? (not raiding villages is a given)

Not enough to fully feed her. She's a hunter and can go hunt mountain goats or whatever.

There are surely things we could get a dragon to do. Currently, Sireyi is managing everything on her own, but I'm sure a dragon could deal with a couple of bandits for example. For every time she does something like that for us we would pay her (in knowledge, help, money or whatever)

The two of you settle down to bargain for the next few hours. Eventually a deal is struck.

Nicolvren will watch the orcs for you, and will help you on your adventures, when you need her.
In return, you’ll help defend her territory against any encroaching dragons, you’ll ensure that she has a steady supply of food – though not so much that she doesn’t need to keep hunting.

And you settle on her getting 20% of Harugards hoard.

The two of you spend several days carefully taking Harugards lair and its traps apart, and searching down every part of his hoard.

All told, it comes to 100,000 gold pieces, once you’ve added everything up and had it valued, of which Nicolvren gets 20,000, and the rest is added to your treasury.

[Nicolvren will be added to party sheet before next thread, she is not available to use this thread]

Working with Nicolvren you get a sense of her, she is a somewhat arrogant teenager, quick to put others in their place.

She doesn’t deal with her own screw-ups very well, usually lashing out verbally when you point out what she did wrong (such as walking into a magical webbing trap).

She is smart, but has a short attention span, if she focuses on a problem, she can figure it out, but gets bored easily.

She is brave, and having decided to work with you, has no problem with putting herself in danger to help you, such as diving into a pit full of mud and quicksand to pull you out.

As a juvenile silver dragon she can shapechange into a young elf girl, that looks like she has a little silver dragon ancestry – silver eyes and a faint patina of scales on her skin.
