You wake up dizzy. There's a distracting sensation of strain, like everything is off- and an overwhelming feeling of deja-vu. You shift, making to lift yourself up, but there's a pressure on your shoulder, lightly keeping you down. Fingers in your hair.

Mom's voice rings out from above you, an even, calming tone.
"Lie down, little one. Stay still, yes?"
You nod assent, relaxing and lying back into what feels like a pile of blankets. Your mom strokes your head gently, and you lean into it, closing your eyes and breathing slowly. She makes a small noise of approval before she begins again.

"You are growing very fast, spiderling. Far faster than I did, or any of my siblings."
"I feel dizzy- I can't remember. There was red, and you said something, but I can't remember."
Aria's voice chimes in, her words nearly green with envy.
"You evolved. Ranked up. You're the one that's red!"

Shadows fall over you, visible even through closed lids, and you open your eyes. Your siblings have crowded around you, a full spectrum of emotions ringing the circle. Aria bites her lip in jealousy, Elle rests her head on her hand, glancing curiously at your body. Ephram looks confused and Zach disinterested, but you think that might be permanent. Sara looks caught somewhere between excitement and worry, throwing you a shaky smile.

You can hear Jin snoring, even from your spot on the floor.
>>
>>34415620
"Are you well enough to stand? Come along, now."
You twist yourself around and get your legs underneath you as the crowd clears. Mom pulls your hands up, guiding you to your feet. Your sectioned, armoured hands are a deep red, the chitin wrapping your limbs to the elbow. The colour works its way to a shade lighter towards the joints. You feel awkward on your feet- They seem longer. Looking up, you find yourself nearly at eye level with Mom. She's maybe an inch and a bit taller than you.

She smiles encouragingly at you, and you dip your head and blush. You feel like a child learning to walk, trying to settle yourself.

We were asleep last time you talked about this apparently

Yeah I don't remember the voice part... I've gotta go back to the last thread apparently
>>

I believe it's referring to us being asked whether we wanted to evolve or not

All the questions!
>>
>Aria green with envy
I think we should get her training, take her on more adventures. She needs to get as much XP as she can while her Childhood XP Bonus applies.

Ephram and Zach worry me though. They're just so...uninvolved. Like they think Mom will let them live a NEET lifestyle.
>>
Alright then, questions and worries.
>>
>>34415975
>Like they think Mom will let them live a NEET lifestyle.
It's not like they don't do anything, we just don't get involved with them, they still hunt on their own and stuff
>>
>>34416012
I suppose it's just that they haven't found a niche, and they show no inclination to finding one.
Sara has her magic.
Elle has her weaving.
Aria wants to be a spider warrior like us.
>>
>>34416034
To be fair we haven't had a decent conversation with them
>>
>>34416048
They hardly stuck around long enough for us to do that, they're very energetic.
>>
>>34415795
I think the voice has something to do with 'demi-god of protection' that apparently gave us its blessings.

Maybe. We'll see.
>>
>>34416158
>>34416034
Actually, our brothers seem to be doing most of hte hunting for the family.

While girls dick around with trips to star land and weaving, boys go out and put food on the table.
>>
>>34416358
Blue collar spider.
>>
>>34416397
Well, I appreciate them for it. Even if we never really talk.
>>
>>34416452
I think Elle and Aria were hunting just as much. Those 4 were pulling a lot of weight while Sara was studying and we were getting beaten to death by Mom.

Maybe we should do something nice for them. Any ideas?
>>
>>34416572

We don't know them well enough to even decide I'd think... maybe... go hunting with them? It might be best to talk to them first.
>>
"Is- Is this normal? Growing like this? I wasn't- Even yesterday, I wasn't like this."
She laughs, a clear, delighted tone. It dies off into a chuckle as she shakes her head.
"Yes, dearheart. I was smaller, years and years ago. It is normal, yes."
"You're not red, though."

She laughs again, muffling it with one hand. Sara and Elle have crept closer behind you, running hands over your shell and prodding at your legs.
"It is unusual, little one, but not unheard of. There are stories of red arachne serving the queen and the army. Do not worry so."
You shift side to side, trying to find a comfortable balance. You wind up half stepping, spreading your legs a little further. It's a little easier to stand.

"There was a voice. Something about a- a blessing. When I was falling asleep-"
"Mmm. It tells you that you are growing, and whispers secrets. I heard it long ago, though I received no blessings. It is the way of the world little one. Of the Gods, of monsters, yes. Do not be frightened."
"Okay. I- Okay."

You stand idly with your mother a moment longer, rubbing at your arm anxiously. She turns to address the others and you can't stop yourself from blurting out-
"Will I have to leave now?"

Your mother turns, blinking rapidly as she closes on you.
"Oh. Oh, Lyra, no. You are my child, my blood. As long as you wish to stay, you will be welcome."
She wraps you in a fierce hug, arms cinching around your sides- It's just as strong as always, but you can breathe easier through it. You hug her back as best you can.
>>
>>34416891

She pats your shoulder as she steps back, a warm smile on her face.
"But you will be hunting your own food, now. You are a big girl, yes?"
You move to answer her when a hoot interrupts you both from above. She twists, looking up into the canopy.
"Lia is early. Probably spent the night in the cabin, Hah! Fetch the little feathers, and we will see her off."

She heads straight up, disappearing into the leaves, and you shuffle towards your sleeping friend. It's a bit of work unwinding her 'nest' of blankets, but you get her free eventually, scooping her up and heading into the rising dawn's light.

>Wake her up and get a proper goodbye out of her.
>Send her off with a blanket. She certainly seems to like them.

In fact, maybe we should visit her village? Ask Owl-mom if we can escort Jin home ourself? We'll get to see some new stuff, break in the new body and we can hunt some thing while we're out.
>>
>>34416999
It's probably a real damn long trip.
But that's a good more long-term goal to work towards. Find a fast way there on our hunts.

I sort of want to make a web-pathway in the trees to our various places of interest, for ease of travel
>>

I'd vote for visiting her village.

>>
You snag a blanket as you go, making a mental note to weave a new one later. You move faster than before- and while Jin barely weighed anything to begin with, she seems so light now that only the sensation of her feathers on your arms Lets you know you're carrying her. You pull your way out of the tree as the two mothers laugh.

Jin's mother turns to greet you and stops, mouth open, gawking in disbelief.
"What- She- Nialla?! What is this?"
Your mother glances over her shoulder at you.
"Exactly what it looks like, I'd imagine."
"But- She's already-"
"Yes."
"But- She- What, this. How, Nia?"

Mom shrugs.
"Lia, your guess is as good as mine. It is soon, yes."
"It took you years!"
"I never fought wolves or kobolds, either. Mother kept us safe in the nest. She is my daughter, Lia."

You give Jin a little shake as you move towards them. She twists her head around, yawning as she looks up.
"You're bigger," She says sleepily.
"Yes."
"And red."
"Yes."
She nods.
"I'll get bigger, okay?"
"Alright. I got a blanket for you."
"Mmmn. Thanks."

She ties it twice around her waist before tucking it into her vest. You hope it won't mess with her flying. She starts stretching and flapping, warming up for the trip home.
>>
>>34418276
You step over, beside your mom.
"Um. Jin's mom?"
"You can call me Lia, dear."
"Lia. Is changing like this really strange?"
Your mother sighs next to you.
"It happens, child. Just not so quickly, that is all."
"Okay."

Jin waddles up next to her sister, still yawning.
"Maybe I can visit next time?"
She nods, a dopey half-asleep smile plastered on her face.
"Yes. We will get big, and then I will fly with you."
"I can't fly, Jin."
"Yes, yes. We will see you soon."

She follows her family off the tree, dipping lower with each flap till she perks up and shoots past them. You watch as they fade in the distance.
Mom speaks up as you both turn back to the tree, heading down to the nest.
"Do not worry, yes? Lia was just surprised."
"Mmm. Your name is Nialla?"
"I prefer 'Mom', yes."

You both laugh as you head down.

What I meant to say was, in the Light Novel the Resurrected evolved into a rare variant of a Hobgoblin, a colour that was different to normal level-ups and associated with some major backstory. Makes me wonder what it means if our mother said that >>34416891 "There are stories of red arachne serving the queen and the army."
>>
>>34419814
We're an off shoot. It could be simple as a color+ slight bonus for each level, Or we could branch into something totally different.
>>
>>34419814
>Species: Ruby Widow Arachne
A deep red shelled arachne, larger than its forest predecessor. It enjoys the blessing of the demi-god of protection, making it incredibly tough. Their ferocity when defending those weaker than themselves is legendary. Records dictate that there was a unit amongst the arachne's armies consisting entirely of these variants- They were the first to charge, and the last to leave the field.
>>
>>34419814
The pastebin notes mention that the Queen used to have a unit of Ruby Arachne that were super badass

The MC of the LN was also like triple special, on top remembering his previous life he also kept his esper ability and was also some destined villian thing, you don't find that out til later though
>>
Your day speeds by. Sara immediately tries to drag you off, having found paper and some form of Ink. You apologize, promising to spend the evening with her- But there's already an edge on your hunger, and despite the events of the day, you're all keyed up. You have energy to burn, and you plan to spend it bringing down something big enough to fill your stomach. Sara stomps petulantly, puffing up her cheeks before settling down to study on her own.

Elle heads out to sit on top of a web somewhere; She brings back a fair bit of food, but usually smaller critters. You head out after your brothers as the sounds of wood cracking against wood echoes from above. You've lit something of a fire beneath your sister- She actually went and begged Mom for training.

You add that to your list as you chase after the two boys. She's going to be hungry, and probably unable to move.

You nearly overshoot- It's going to take some work to adjust to your body you think. The both throw you confused looks as you pull up alongside them.
"Uh- hey. I, um. Haven't hunted in a while, yes? D'you know where I can find something big? Or I could just follow you."
They spend a moment giving each other a look.
"Okay." "Yes." They say simultaneously.

"We'll go first."
"Then you."
Both nod, then head out resuming their previous pace. It's easy to keep up, but you have to take several tiny detours- Hopping over logs instead of under them. Your shell is definitely larger.

Scenery flies by as you run, trees slowly growing smaller and more thinned out. You've reached a gigantic meadow- Tall grass dots the area, and the tell-tale sound of trickling water indicates a creek or something similar is hidden away somewhere. The boys slow to a crawl, dropping lower and silently moving into the grass.
>>
>>34419966

It's a bit hard for you to get low enough- you settle for circling the clearing, waiting for them to make their move. You spot their prey. A group of off looking deer- Their horns have a metallic colour to them, and they have a few too many eyes.

You're definitely a qualified judge on that matter.

You watch as the ripple of grass moves towards them, your brothers creeping up on the deer. At the last second the largest raises its head, looking back towards the grass as its herd drinks from the stream.

Then the grass explodes outwards as the two of them leap onto the drinking deer, bearing them down and wrestling them into submission. The rest of the herd panics, screaming and fleeing along your path. You wait in the shadow of the tree before they pass you by- It's almost casual, the way you reach out and wrap your arms around the neck of the buck- It keeps up its charge, but you've braced yourself. It surges past you, but it can't break your grip- Its momentum carries its body around and past your arms, neatly snapping its neck.

The boys are wrapping their catches- they nod in satisfaction at yours as they throw their own over their spider-halves. With your stomach still rumbling, though. You offer to carry theirs as well- You have a feeling you're going to need more food tonight. They take turns on the way home, seeing which one can catch something faster. You chat with whichever stays behind, picking up their hunting techniques, and picking out enough personality cues that you think you could correctly identify them 50% of the time. Maybe.
>>
>>34419993
Ephram is a bit- simple, for lack of a better term. He's not too sure about you being big or red, but he's fairly impressed with you strength. He chatters on about 'the chase' between his hunts- He's utterly focussed on pulling down his prey. Mom tried, but he's not too good at using hi web outside of tying up his catch.

Zach, on the other hand, has worked intensely on tracking. He talks quietly about following scents, or waiting motionlessly and chasing the tremors in the dirt. Conversations tend to run short- his interests don't go much further than that. You pull him back in with a chat about using webs as a sensor net- and he swaps information about following prey in the trees, and how to move through the leaves silently.

By the time you reach home, You've learned more about the feral side of hunting than you've ever really wanted to know.

You really, really could've done without the instructions on how to track something by its spoor.

Spoor is poop.

You head up the tree with a small mountain of food in tow, and spend dinner facing down an impatient-looking Sara. She's got her books next to her all meal long, staring you down like you'll run if she gives you a half moment.

It's a bit awkward, but you still wind up eating the better part of the stag by yourself. The warm, heavy feeling of fullness is extremely satisfying- you don't get long to enjoy it, though, with your now even smaller sister dragging you up the tree as soon as finish. Elle waves with a smirk as you head up to the training arena. Aria, however, is exactly how you'd imagine- snoring next to the weaver, already utterly gone.

Yay, magic time. Let's see what we've got.

I hope we saved some for her. Make sure some food is wrapped and waiting for her when she wakes.

I'll freely admit the LN/Manga is completely a guilty pleasure. The MC is a super psychic super soldier with the rarest and most powerful esper ability, he's apparently studied militaries round the world to create the greatest training program, he's super blessed by the biggest god in universe and can cast any magic, all the girls love him, etc, etc. It is brainfree enjoyment.

Lyra is just shy of 6'7" at rest. She can raise herself up on her legs to add another 4 feet or so, but she can't walk like that.

I remember the QM saying that meta-gaming with knowledge outside of the setting is OK a.k.a. get your asses onto wikipedia.

I suggest replacing the face/boss with some heavily braided silk.

We have to go hunting on our own soon, maybe start hunting bears or anything with lots of meat on them or were going to kill off the all the deer

wait wait WAIT I JUST HAD AN AMAZING IDEA
well you know how spiders balloon right!

By building parachutes out of their webs. With a team of Harpies to carry us we could create the first Arachine Paratrooper regiment.
>>
>>34420293
i dunno about that, we might be too heavy for them...
>>
>>34420293
A bit much of work for the harpies. And they can just sort of fly us down whenever need be.

But it'd be a fun passtime, once we get all the safety tests out of the way. And if we were thrillseekers.
>>
>>34420293
I'm... not sure how I feel about that... at the same time seeing a harpy assisted ex-filtration with a web surface-to-air recovery system would be amazing.
>>
>>34420293
Fuck it, let's just stick to ballooning on our own, although, I thought that ballooning only worked for the lighter spiders? Are we light enough to balloon? Or are we more like a fat Tarantula?
>>
>>34420269
We have meta knowledge because we remember (most of) out past life. But don't go nuts with it, stuff that a normal person wouldn't know / couldn't figure out off the top of their heads should be out.

>>34420293
Every idiot knows the basics of how hot air balloons work..... If we had a suitable heat source, we could totally do that.
>>
>>34420370
Like a Fulton recovery system but with Harpies instead of a Balloon?

Great, now I'm thinking about Solid Snakeman
>>
>>34420371
We're like the size of a car. We can make a pretty kite or a nifty parachute, but we're not getting carried away by the wind.
>>
>>34420371
Only Mountain Arachne can do that naturally. We're way to big.
>>
I'm going to sleep. Don't get us killed, Anon!

Hot air balloon of web... we use Jin as a guide and we power it with Sarah's stars. Problem solved.
>>
>>34420476
>>34420461
yeah, we'd need some fancy artificial webbing constructs. And a drive. Hot air is the easiest way, and fun, but slow.
>>
Well, you're fairly certain that Sara is learning things.

And enjoying herself.
You- Not so much.

For starters, spells are hard. Keeping the focus, getting the chant right, it's difficult. Having no control over the amount of mana makes the whole thing something like a guessing game.

Choose which cup the mana is under!
Hint: The mana is under every cup, and the spell is blowing up in your face.

Despite the nonstop concussive blasts throwing you both around the arena, Sara has been wearing a manic grin the entire time. When it comes to magic, all her shyness vanishes, replaced with an excited child who desperately wants to be a scholar. Imagining Sara in a lab coat brings a giggle to your throat as she jots down more notes on your latest spellsplosion.

On the other hand, you have to give her credit- The explosions are being accompanied by a variety of spell effects. One left a cloud of cool mist that took a while to dissipate- Which made the next few detonations almost bearable. One threw out a short jolt of static, leaving you both with hair standing up till the next concussive explosion blew them flat again.
>>
>>34420771
Oh, good, she's learning to flavor them.
>>
>>34420771
She taps her claws over her book, muttering to herself before she raises her voice.
"I think we just haven't found your element- control is a lot harder outside your own before you've got a handle on magic. There's more than a few left to try, but-"
Her face curls into a frown, and she brushes her hair out of face.
"They're not- hmmmmm. Not really the kind of things we can try in the nest."
"Like fire?"
"I don't think mom would like that."
"She probably prefers the forest not on fire, yes."

"Well then!"
She claps her hands together after dropping her book.
"We can practice stopping spells, at least."
She summons a pile of stars- they feel like they're buzzing, like they've got way more mana than before.
You frown.
"We'll work on mana control as well as deflection- try to drain them, or, or explode them. Or just deflect them."
She advances on you with a literal glow in her eyes.
"Sara?"
"These might sting a bit, so you should definitely try your best, yes?"
"Sara!"

The evening is full of the sounds of the forest, the wind in the trees, and a red spider yelping as every spell she misses jolts and sparks along her unarmoured torso.

Sara, please stop pelting us with spells.

also, REQM, i cleaned up your OP image a bit, because jpg artifacts EVERYWHERE.

Please use .png for images with large blocks of the same color, it compresses better and is lossless so you dont get artifacts.

I need to fix up the OP anyway, the thumbnail is unreadable, and the white lines were off.

Dad's books are full of research and experimental spells. Sara's already heavy into magic and reading. She wants to be able to cast some or try some of the stuff in there, and more than that, she wants to write her own spells and such. When she couldn't find your 'condition' in a book she got ridiculously excited. It's something to research!

>>34420965
The brothers are just used to hunting side by side. They've spent all their time together.

>>34420988
Mana is everywhere. Places like the waterfall have elementally sided mana, and in massive amounts, but there's no shortage in the air at any time. It's like the mana at the waterfall is already partially compressed, and easier to further refine. If youre a star mage.

Honestly surprised with all this talk of hot air balloons that noone started planning an airship.

>Honestly surprised with all this talk of hot air balloons that noone started planning an airship.

Now your'e just being silly. Sure we can make the balloons out of our silk and the boat out of the wood around us, but where would the hot air come from? A star mage? Hmm... actually, that just might work. We'll have to make this a long-term project of ours. Maybe after we've gotten our own place.
>>
>>34421082
We might. Not hard to get hot gas going.

An airship would be slow though. Only real advantage is it's a mobile cargo carrier that ignores forest terrain.
>>
>>34421082
Any chance we might to get to see everyone else's character sheets?
>>
>>34421216
I'll give it some thought. If anything, they'd be stripped down versions with lighter skill descriptions.
>>
>>34421188
I'd say a major advantage would be the ability to fit a spider on it
I feel like an air baloon would wind up being a solo affair
Or just a fleet of spider manned baloons
air balloon pirates?
>>
>>34421275
Air ship... we meet the fishermen... we see their ship. We think about the balloon. We flying spiders.
>>
>>34421339
Forgot to mention this would also enable the ex-filtration system.
>>
>>34421275
I don't know about airships, but I do want the chance to go adventuring at some point and it could be useful
>>
Alright, threads archived and I hope to see you thursday!
Have a good week.
>>
>>34421339
There's no need for that.
We've played enough JRPG's to think of wanting an airship.

See you thurday

>>34421082
Dammit all I missed the thread -again-. REQM, do you have a schedule of which days of the week you like to run on? I'd like to stop missing this bitching quest. Thanks for running anyhow.
