Welcome back to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you took a nap, got mobbed by your fans, and played a ballad for the ages.

You finish your 'song', though really it was just a series of noises played very loudly and quickly, and the Varistha cracks open a single eye. You're not sure if he's irritated or amused. He opens his mouth, then closes it again. Searching for words to express his appreciation of your talent, surely. When he finally speaks it wasn't exactly what you were expecting. “I will pay you to not do that ever again.”

You grin from ear to ear. You simply can't help it. “Believe me, most noble Varistha. You couldn't afford it, but if you're really so invested in my playing I wouldn't be opposed to lessons...” The Varistha shakes his head slowly. “Speak with Sister Balik, she is our resident musician. You can usually find her in the library or here, in the gardens.” Sehzade pushes himself to his feet, stepping off of his rock. “Let us go for a walk, yes? There is much to discuss.” He offers his hand to help you up and you take it. The two of you begin to distance yourselves from the central pond, instead weaving through the thick undergrowth along a seemingly nonexistent trail.

After the low buzz of conversation has faded into indistinguishable muttering the Varistha addresses you, though he doesn't actually take his eyes off the trail ahead. “Tell me honestly, Brother Abdul. You will face no persecution so long as you remain within these walls. Are you of the Aghtaki?” You frown, subtly. The scar on your cheek, though not necessarily a brand, is rather telling. He probably already assumes you were banished and really just wants to hear it from you. Then again, you might be able to convince him it was the result of some kind of accident or cruel prank.

We would just spend that money to get another oud, they are gonna lose either way.

The problem is that the gods for those temples are dead/gone, so no one is gonna be taking care of them.

Taken from the ask page.

>you've never heard of temples devoted to them. Not devoted on the god, but on the element itself, instead of monks we'd have schollar and vatis manning the place, we could ask the old man if that'd be ok before someone goes "absolutely haram" and goes to war or something stupid.

You sigh. You've been expecting this question for a while, to be perfectly honest. “I am one of the Aghtaki, though I was falsely accused. Have you heard about the Shah ordering his son's gardens burned to the ground?” The Varistha nods his head. “I have, though I don't see what that has to do with our conversation.” You quicken your step to fall in beside him. “I accused the Shahzada of wasting the tribe's water to maintain his vast gardens and the Shahzada accused me of Slander in turn. The Shah presided over my case directly and found me guilty, as I'm sure many fathers would when faced with either consigning a stranger or his flesh and blood to wander the world without hearth or home. However, not a week later he turned around and did exactly as I suggested by burning down the gardens and putting an end to his son's wastefulness. Thus, proving me an innocent man.”

The Varistha stops in his tracks and fixes you with a skeptical stare. There is a long moment of silence as he considers what you've said. You feel him channel just the slightest bit of magic, a spell you can't identify discharging. Finally, he nods. “Very well, I believe your tale.” That was... surprisingly easy, actually. “However, I find it difficult to believe that the Shah would burn down his son's gardens solely based on your suggestion. Having known the man since he was an infant, he simply does not act against family so easily. I think it more likely the Shahzada did something to earn his father's ire.”

Sehzade resumes his stroll through the gardens, and you once more fall in beside him. “The battle you hosted in the sparing grounds was truly fascinating, a supreme example of skill. However, I must ask how you know so much about Rhynian tactics. The cavalry harrying the rear of your spear formations were what really gave away your knowledge. I recall vividly the heavily armored steeds of the Rhynians thundering across open fields, their enchanted armor caused me no end of trouble. The methods employed by the modern successor states are merely a shadow of the terror wrought by the Empire of old.”

You're a little more hesitant answering this question, but the Varistha seems a reasonable sort. “When I was exploring an ancient Rhynian ruin, recently unearthed in a ruin north of Licae, I came across a curious device. Like a massive needle strapped to a generator, poised above a chair with a control panel. My curiosity prompted me to strap myself into the chair and activate the device, earning me a needle through the chest. It sent me on some sort of... vision quest, through the life of a Rhynian officer in training. It was very strange, and more than a little uncanny, but the knowledge gained has served me well.”

He gives you an admonishing look. “Foolhardy, to an extreme degree. Why on Earth would you strap yourself into a chair poised below a needle and expect good to come out of it?” You smirk. “Ah, but good did come of it. Didn't it?” The Varistha shakes his head. “A man may only stick his head into the mouth of a lion so many times before he is bit. Just because you survived the experience once does not mean it was a good decision.” You bristle, slightly. Since when were your decision his to criticize? He wasn't there, nor does he know you particularly well. You open your mouth to respond but you feel that burst of magic once more as he cast a spell you don't recognize.

(1/2)
>>
He sighs as the magic dissipates. “Very well, I will drop the issue. Your decisions are your own to make. You have accumulated quite the gaggle of oddities within your... 'household'.” The way he says that always makes it sound disdainful, it's a little off-putting, really. “A twisted child, an incomplete experiment, and two human women of a very... Rhynian dress and manner.” The way he says Rhynian would almost make you think it some sort of curse. “Who are they, what are they capable of? I trust you to keep your degenerates in line but I at least wish to be aware of the dangers they pose.”

Though the fact he insulted your friends does irritate you, you can at least understand why he's so bitter. He fought against the Rhynians, likely for centuries of his life. Not to mention he's the one in a position of power here, not you. At well over two thousand years old he's likely a Vatis of incomparable power, in addition to being the Varistha of this temple. With tall that in mind you concoct a polite, but firm refusal. “Sehzade, know that I mean no disrespect when I refuse to answer your question. I simply don't think it my place to speak for my companions. You are more than welcome to ask after their capabilities in person.”

He cast a glare your way, and once more cast that unfamiliar spell of his. This time there's much more power behind it, even though he didn't seem to channel all that much more vys. It seems to pass over you and through you before dissipating into the surroundings. “Very well, I will do just that. Now, I believe you have business to attend to, yes? A certain witch to see?” You nod your head. You'd forgotten how annoying Nature vatis could be. They always seem to have eyes everywhere. Your old Master used to constantly ask you about things you'd done when you were certain you were alone, like stealing a pear from a fruit stall or pushing your friends into the sea. The lack of privacy really got to you after a while. “Yes, my friend wishes for a sleep aid.” The Varistha waves a hand dismissively. “Very well then, go.”

Iron man relies on a sophisticated, high tech suit of armor and information feeds connected to virtually every single form of information transmission. In the original "Age of Ultron" Series, Hank Pym created Ultron and synced him up to the Avenger's network to do the Avengers' jobs. This caused Ironman a massive head-ache when his suits joined the robot horde and he was forced to use a low-tech stop-gap suit, even when the Iron man suits weren't directly connected to the Avengers' systems. In the upcoming Ironman movie, since there's no canon Hank Pym, Tony Stark creates Ultron. So yeah, he's gonna have a very, very bad day.

“Before I go, could I ask some questions of my own?” He nods his head, turning to face you fully for once. “You may ask me anything you like, Brother Abdul. You need not ask my permission.” He smiles in a very paternal sort of way, and you launch into your questions. “My friend, Sister Darzi, was very badly abused by a party of bandits. I rescued her and healed her wounds to the best of my ability but I fear she's been left rather badly scarred. As a result, she is self-conscious and nervous. I was wondering if you had any advice in regards to healing her scars, or just healing in general.”

The Varistha nods seriously. “Of course, anything for a noble goal.” You can't help but feel that was a somehow pointed comment, as if he finds some of your other goals somehow ignoble. You ignore it. “When healing extensive damage to one's body, it's always important to remember that you're not really sculpting the body. Really, you're just giving the body the energy it needs to repair itself without resorting to such desperate measures as generating scar tissue or what have you.” He waves a hand dismissively. “With that in mind, it's important to reinforce how you, or in this case your friend, saw themselves before their injury. If they are in an improper emotional state, or if they have come to see the injury as part of who they are, you will merely mutilate them without reason in removing the scar tissue.”

(1/4)
>>
You cock your head to the side. “What constitutes an improper emotional state?” The Varistha clasps his hands behind his back. “Once, when I was a younger man, merely a few centuries old-” Merely. Merely a few centuries. It really strikes you just how young you are. You're not even thirty yet. “-I was healing a man who's lower body had been incinerated completely by the attack of an enemy vatis. His injury was recent, I don't recall exactly how recent. He was still reeling from the attack itself, dazed and not really all there. Instead of regrowing his lower half me and my fellow healers merely knit closed the wound. He died a few hours later.” The Varistha shrugs. “Thus, I would hypothesize that if the person you are attempting to heal is not fully aware and conscious of their surroundings it is far more difficult to properly regenerate a disfiguring wound.”

Well... that's rather grisly. Still incredibly useful information. You're really hope it never becomes relevant. “Do you have any recommendations for nature meditation? It is likely the next element I will attempt to learn, and tips from a Grandmaster would be appreciated.” The Varistha grins, a twinkle in his eye. “Of course. I have mainly focused on the mental aspects of nature magic, though I have not neglected the aspects relating to the manipulation of plant life.” As he says this, a date palm dips one of its ponderous branches towards the Varistha and before your eyes produces dozens upon dozens of flowers, which quickly metamorphose into hard, unripened dates. They continue to mature, finally turning into the squishy red fruits that so many enjoy. He plucks a handful, popping one into his mouth. Show off. The rest whither and fall off of the branch. Bastard didn't even offer you any.

(2/4)
>>
“I would recommend first trying to sense what a plant feels. The wind through its leaves, a creature passing through its branches, a parasite eating away at its trunk. Once you have mastered these aspects, you can try to extend your own senses through the plant life around you. The mental aspects of Nature magic will come later, gradually.” He nods, popping another date into his mouth. “Any other questions?”

You're just about tired of talking to this old codger, but you do have one more question. “How have you managed to live so long without losing your sanity to the passage of time? Vatis a fraction of your age often must be put down for fear of the damage they could cause, yet here you are vividly recounting the events of a millennia ago.” He shakes his head slowly. “That, I cannot reveal. It is enough to say that I would not have lived as long as I have on my own.” The more you talk with this man the less you like him. “What reason do you have to conceal that knowledge? If you have found some exploit that allows you to escape that deterioration of the mind so many of our kind must deal with, why not share it?” The Varistha grins. “I'm sorry, Brother Abdul. I made an oath. It's simply not my secret to reveal. Just as your companion's abilities are not yours to expound upon.”

(3/4)
>>
>>34563136
>saw themselves before their injury.

Damn, this will be really hard to do, and Darzi a shit.

Screw that plan.
>>
What the hell does that even mean? Regardless, it seems unlikely that he'd be willing to budge on this issue. You bow out, eager to be away from the man. “Very well, Varistha. I will take my leave then. I wish you nothing but the best.” Sehzade bows in response, though not as deeply. “The same to you, Brother Abdul. Go peacefully.” You retreat from the gardens, making your way through the palms, ferns, and garden beds until you find the central pond again. It's far more sparsely populated than you remember it being, likely for fear of you once again playing a ballad on your oud. You can't blame them for fleeing.

It takes some searching but eventually you find the leading to the temple fortress that monk mentioned being in the gardens. It's a simple arched tunnel, the entrance framed with intricate carvings of soldiers standing guard with spear in hands. You pass through, and find yourself plunged into darkness. You have to keep your hand to the wall just to make sure you don't go walking into anything. You find yourself exiting into a musty, dimly lit, subterranean room. A single hatch lies in the ceiling and a rope ladder stretches from the edge of the hatch to the floor. As you press your foot against the bottom rung, you hear footsteps pounding against wooden floor boards and voices from above.

I should mention, in this case 'getting closer' basically entails climbing up the ladder but not pushing open the hatch, thus hiding isn't really an option. If they pulled open the hatch you'd be right there.

You'd need to roll for it, and then spend the vys to increase the results of your roll.

If you were wearing your Rhynian armor you could spend vys beforehand to provide a significant bonus, and if you were wearing your Hiacian armor it wouldn't be an issue.

You pull yourself carefully up the ladder, trying not to cause too much noise. The wooden rungs complain under your weight but you manage it without alerting the voices above. You stop just below the hatch and crane your neck, trying to catch any tidbits of the conversation. They must be getting closer, because you can make out their conversation fairly distinctly.

“-gers. You know what happened after the last band came into town.” The other voice, feminine you think but you're not entirely certain, responds. “Oh please, Anwar. They're here to serve the temple. I'm sure they'll be nothing but polite.” The other speaker, Anwar, responds. “The last group came to serve the temple too, and they burned down the inn and three shops next to it. Before them came the witch, and we all know how she turned out.” The woman speaks again. “She serves an important role within the community. Didn't she provide you that potion to help with your-” The man cuts her off. “Who told you about that?” The woman sounds confused. “What do you mean? I thought it was common knowledge...”

The man lets out a string of expletives, apparently cursing that blabber mouth wife of his. Slowly, the two voices fade out of earshot and you wait a few moments to make sure they're gone. You touch your hand against the hatch and channel just a touch of vys, causing it to slide open slowly and allow you through.

You find yourself emerging into some sort of cramped, fairly private room. A hookah sits in one corner surrounded by pillows. You seem to be emerging from the only square of tiled flooring that isn't covered by thick, plush rugs. Once you've passed through the hatch you press your hand to the tile once more and channel vys, prompting it to slide closed. That done, you waltz out of the room calmly.
(1/2)
>>
You pass from the room into a small hallway, a side door allowing you into the courtyard. A number of guards patrol the walls, but they don't pay you any mind. The gates swing open as you approach and you pass through them into the village beyond. It seems as though everyone is beginning to close up shop, at least all the shops on the main thoroughfare are. The bakery you saw this morning when you rolled into town has long since closed its doors and taken in its sign. You pass quickly through town unmolested, making your way towards the beach where the Apothecary's hut is supposed to be.

To be honest, there isn't really much of a 'beach'. More of a collection of rocks and cliffs with some sand tossed around. The only structure you can see is a rickety shack propped up on stilts, currently half submerged in water. It's large, but ramshackle. Additions have been tacked onto the main structure haphazardly and seem mere moments away from falling into the see. Smoke billows from a small, metal chimney which extends from the ceiling, but there are no other indications it's inhabited.

You pick your way across the rock-strewn beach to the Apothecary's hut, climbing the short staircase up to the porch. It groans and complains with every step you take, doing nothing to help your nerves. You raise a fist and knock on the door, but it merely cracks open as your fist makes contact.

Thanks for all the great written media Soma!

Also do we have the capability to build this woman a solid house with our Vatis abilities? I feel like we would need strong nature to create a living tree house or nxtlvl earth for a nice stone building. Neither of which we have.

Maybe that's an idea for a training excercise though, meditating by the sea trying to create something carefully while also trying to avoid the waves destroying stuff mid-creation.

You're fairly unphased by this sort of thing. Manipulate is a very basic spell that requires hardly any vys to use. You push the door the rest of the way open and step inside. You find a woman standing before a hearth, the flames dancing unnaturally as she sits before them. She has glaringly white hair and is dressed in a manner you'd typically associate with mourning, a black robe and a hair net decorated with raven's feathers, a white rose in her hair. She's pale for a Samjan, and the white film covering her eyes marks her as blind. You'd estimate that she's roughly of an age with your master, somewhere around five hundred years old.

Your eyes are almost forcefully drawn to the dancing flames, they seem to depict a vaguely masculine figure wielding a spear accosted on all sides by warped, twisted creatures with sharp teeth and glowing eyes. Demons, or monsters of some sort. The figure tries to ward the figures off with his spear, but one of them slips through his guard and the spear-wielder seems to absorb it into his chest. The figure goes limp, and the monsters swarm him, each one absorbed in turn. When the figure stands again it has sharp teeth and glowing eyes.

The flames are snuffed out at once, the room plunged into darkness. The next moment candles flare to life all around the room, lighting it relatively brightly. Innumerable bottles, vials, jars, and pouches line the walls and burden shelves. The center of the room is dominated by a long table on which alien equipment sits, the purpose of each individual device a mystery to you. You note that magic seems to radiate from behind a door to your left, it's strong enough that the area seems to take on a subtle blue shade in comparison to the rest of the room.

The apothecary stands, slowly. “Welcome to my humble abode, traveler.” She says, without really looking at you. Rather, her eyes are focused towards the floor. It gives her a rather demure appearance, even though you're relatively certain this woman is anything but demure. “What can this humble alchemist do for you?”

Do you think we stand a chance against a warlord?
>>
>>34565975
Our modus operandi has always been stealthy and focused on taking the initiative. Grandstanding, self-indulgent cruelty is what got us on our party's shit list and Jan Valentine wasted by a bunch of old white guys. When we get to that particular assignment, I expect us to have developed a plan, contigencies, and an solid entry. What YOU seem to be suggesting or endorsing as our course of action is gaumless and suicidal.
>>
>>34566110
Alright fair enough, but the insane yelling in the face of danger is like us
>>
You stare with some small amount of wonder at the shelves of vials around you. “I think I'd like to browse your wares. Tell me, what was that display I saw when I first entered?” The woman grins mischievously. “Ahh, I wasn't certain you'd seen that little demonstration of mine.” Suddenly her voice sounds like that of a much younger woman, vibrant and full of life. “A simple ritual, when you have the proper components. A combination of a certain plant extract with the divine hoama and just the slightest touch of magic. Sometimes the flames will purport the future, and other times it will merely show the caster that which their heart most desires. Not the most reliable method of predicting the future, but I preform the ritual nightly regardless.”

You raise an eyebrow. Only the priest of Surya know how to extract the divine haoma. “I don't suppose that was my future predicted in the flames then, was it?” The woman shakes her head. “That, I'm afraid, is not for me to tell. What you see in the flames and what I see in the flames may be two entirely different things. It's a highly personal experience.” That's not very helpful, actually. “Well, I suppose I'll be sure to use my sword should I ever face any demons in battle.” The woman smiles sympathetically. “If only our demons were always so easily bested with a blade. You wanted to see my wares?”

(1/3)
>>
You nod, then recall that the woman is blind. You have the inkling of an idea that she's probably skilled enough in Nature magic that she can see you, but just to be on the safe side. “Yes, that's correct.” She turns away, bustling over to one of her shelves and picking up a number of bottles to swirl the liquids inside around absentmindedly. “Were you looking for anything specific, or did you just want to see what I had prepared?” You watch her curiously while she starts dragging bottles off the shelf and setting them down in front of her. “I'm looking specifically for a sleeping potion. A friend was wounded and in order to heal her I'll need to remove a fair amount of scar tissue.”

The Apothecary nods, setting one bottle aside and pulling an empty vial off the shelf. She fills the vial with the thick, milky substance inside the bottle and then sets the bottle back on the shelf, corking the vial. “A simple enough potion. For five gold its yours. Now, as for the rest of my wares-” She steps aside, turning to face you and gesturing to the attractive array of bottles she's laid out on the table. There are five in all. “From left to right, I have here a tincture to improve the flow of vys within one's body and thus increase the power one may put behind a spell. It also enhances certain... aspects of the male anatomy. A favorite amongst the local wives.” She grins cheekily, before moving on. “A potion to fortify oneself against poisons and disease, quite potent. I would caution against using more than a small amount as even the most useful of medicines is a poison if one takes too much.”

(2/3)
>>
She picks up the third bottle fondly. “This is a tonic intended to alleviate pain and swelling, I cannot tell you how useful it is, really. I take a spoonful in the morning and my back doesn't complain for the rest of the day.” She sets it back down and gestures to to the next bottle. “This one is the oil extracted from a local herb that grows high in the mountains. It reduces fatigue and encourages physical as well as mental well-being. Another potion I take daily, the only reason I've stayed sane this long I'm sure.” Finally she rest her hand on the top of the last bottle, one filled with a sickly green mash. “Finally we have an herbal poultice, foul tasting but useful, I assure you. It allows one to more easily open their third eye, so to speak. Makes meditation much, much easier. Unfortunately, the side effects can be rather severe...”

Yeah, not being able to meditate without it IS a side effect of using it..

Its a side effect of using a substance while mediating, nothing to do with the substance itself, probably, some shit is probably more addictive
>>
You know what we should do?

1. We found it in this world
2. It's really fucking potent
3. Chrys could use some on her arrows us on our weapons etc

we should get it distilled rather than sell it
>>
>>34566776
Our master is literally an opium addict. He would get addicted regardless of whether he meditated while smoking it or not.
>>

Thats a crippling addiction, not a side affect.

Well yeah, but he could still meditate without it

pretty much this.

Also going heavy into metal should give us plenty of room to not go crazy.
Also thinking about it. Could in theory when A samjan gets old as a waster grandmaster cut his arm off and regrow a younger healthier arm.
Rinse and repeat for all his limbs.
We live to a super old age, but im sure joints and what not aren't the best even re healing them.
>>
>>34566788
This, so much fucking this.

>>34566806
I'm pretty sure the issue is that he can't focus without opium, and you can't meditate if you can't focus.

>>34566819
>12 glands
I'm not saying we should give all away, but we should be able to part with 1 or 2 glands.
>>
>>34566830
Your master is unable to meditate without opium because he's unable to focus if he's going through withdraw. The fact he meditated so often while smoking opium didn't help anything.
>>
>>34566788
you're right on
1
Idk why you have to point out that it's potent it's clearly lethal.
3. We've 12 glands not 2, Selling a few won't hurt us.
Chys may be learning poison soon. So she won't need glands if she wants to poison people.
As we can already poison people we won't need it.

He needs his pipe to meditate. not to do every day things.
As a grand master in water there are plenty of things he could do with out having to focus like ripping the water from the air and causing a small flood.
Easily in a fit of rage he coupld do some serious damege if some one tries to keep him away from his shit.
He understands it's bad for him. he knows he has a bad habit. He chooses not to clean up, be it a life choice or it being to tough on him mentally and physically.
>>
“You mentioned side effects, what are they?” The apothecary clears her throat. “Well lets see here... the potion to increase one's resistance to disease and poison, in high doses, can cause fatigue, exhaustion, vomiting, and if you take far, far too much it can even cause death. At proper dosages its side effects are nonexistent. The tonic to reduce pain and swelling can cause lethargy, strange visions, and irregular behavior if you take too much, but I've never heard of anyone dying from it. The herbal poultice eventually makes those who use it reliant on it to meditate, and in addition once its effects wear off vomiting, shivering, fever, inability to sleep, nightmares, visions... horrible, truly. Despite these side effects I assure you that its occasional use is not only safe, but well worth it.”

You consider your options for a moment, eventually shaking your head. “While I'm interested in a few of your wares I heard you had recovered some ancient Rhynian potions, the proper enchanted kind. Could I see them?” She smiles. “Do you have thousands of silver on your person?” You chuckle. “Actually, yes I do. Almost six thousand silver, to be precise.” She scrunches up her face in confusion, smile faltering. “...Where?” You spread your cloak wide and shove your hand inside, withdrawing a gold coin. “Inside my cloak.” She doesn't seem to have seen your little trick, or if she did she shows no sign of being surprised. “Very well, if you insist I'll be back in a moment.”

She retreats into the room to your left, slipping carefully through the door. You're left to wait, alone. You could probably just snatch the potions and make a break for it. However, as you contemplate that the woman returns from the side room with two potions in hand, one a thick, black ichor and the other a collection of strange white... blobs floating around in the bottle as if weightless. She sets both down on the desk, gesturing first to the thick black potion. “This substance will allow you to alter your form, temporarily. The duration of a single dose is roughly two hours and the only limitation is that you cannot become significantly larger or smaller than you already are.” She gestures then to the bottle of white, floating blobs. “This potion will make you incorporeal. You'll be able to fly, pass through walls, and you'll no longer need to breathe, eat, or sleep. However, should the effects wear off while you're partially inside a solid object the body part inside the object will be severed. It usually last about thirty minutes per dose, but there is some variance. I've never encountered any side effects while using either.” She pauses, letting what she's said soak in. “One hundred gold for either of them, stranger.”

>>34568437
Yeah, no. Because since we put on the mask the spice tends to have the effect of 1. Increasing our Madness and 2. Letting the Dead God slowly enter our world. I'm not quite sure about you but if a God is dead it's generally for a good reason and our companions already think we're crazy no need to go full psych ward on them.

We could, but the stuff is highly addictive. So I don't believe the gains would be worth it.

You scratch your chin absentmindedly. “I think I'll take ten doses of the vitality extract and the potion to reduce pain. I'd also like ten doses of the herbal poultice. Oh, and the sleep potion of course.” The woman nods, starting to measure out your requested substances. For a blind woman her hands are deft and sure, she always seems to know exactly where each vial is and exactly how much of any one bottle to pour into another. Once she's measured out all of your requested potions she seals the vials with a cork and melted wax.

She arranges your various selections on the table in front of you. “I believe you owe me... oh, what is it? Sixty four gold?” Sixty four gold and fifteen silver, technically, but you're not going to correct her. “I think we can surely come to some sort of agreement about a discount, I mean I am buying quite a lot from you all at once.” She frowns, you can tell she's not really convinced. “Well I suppose sixty gold would be a nice, even number.”

That's simply not good enough. You channel a burst of vys to give your words more weight, a certain finality, and draw yourself up to your full height. Granted, this woman isn't much shorter than you but you still get to look down on her. “I was thinking more to the tune of twenty gold, actually. I mean, honestly. Do you expect me to believe that poultice of yours is worth ten gold? Its side effects barely make it worth a single gold, let alone ten. Not to mention, five gold for a sleeping potion? That seems downright extortionist. Maybe you can demand such outrageous prices from the common villagers but I'm an educated man, I could buy a vial of sleeping potion for a handful of silver in El-Amin.” The woman scowls. “Now you listen here! The olive oil you buy at 'potion' stalls in El-Amin isn't even comparable to the goods I offer! Not since the age of the Hiacian Empire have potions of as high a quality as my own been available for as cheap as they are!”
(1/2)
>>
You scoff. “Please! While I don't doubt your goods are as high quality as I could hope to find anywhere in Pidjata, in the days of the Hiacian Empire I probably could've bought far more powerful tonics and tinctures for a silver piece!” The woman folds her arms in front of her chest. “Since you're making such a fuss over it, I'll lower my price to forty. No further.” You glare. “That's still outrageous! Twenty five, I'll go no higher!” The woman slams her hand against the table in front of her. “Thirty five or you get nothing!” She says it firmly, a note of finality to her voice. You press onwards, walking around the table and getting right up in her face. “I said twenty five gold and I meant it! If you want my money, and I know you do, you'll take the offer!” She slaps you across the face, but it almost seems... playful. Why is she giggling like that? She was furious just a few moments ago. “Oh fine, twenty five it is. Bullying an old woman... you ought to be ashamed!” You're incredibly confused, why does she sound so pleased? Twenty five was a lowball offer now matter how you look at it.

You pull out the coins, setting them down in front of her in neat little stacks. She scoops each of them up in turn, dropping them into a coin purse on her hip. “By the gods, I feel two hundred years younger. Nobody in this backwater little village ever has the guts to really argue with me. Do please come again~” You scoop up the potions you've bought, pushing them into your cloak. The Apothecary escorts you to her front porch and sends you off with a wave and a smile. You're not sure what just happened, but you think you're okay with it.

I still say we should spend a little more time prepareing, maybe learn new metamagic before attempting it so we have a larger vys pool to draw from and use.
Also Should we ask if any of the other monks would like to help us with this? I believe group meditation is the only reason why we were able to regrow that limb in the darkworld, so it can only help to use it again here.

You step out onto the rocky shoreline, but pause. Turning around to face the apothecary you call back. “What's your name?” She pauses, turning around with a grin. “You know you're one of the only people who've asked me that since I came here? Most of the townsfolk just call me 'that witch'.” She shakes her head. “It's Ghada. Ghada Amirmoez.” You bow to her as elaborately as you dare, you're perched somewhat precariously upon one of the stones that are scattered across the beach to avoid wading through the sea. “Mikhael Abdul-Hakim. It's been a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” She covers her mouth, is she giggling again? Regardless she responds after a moment. “Good luck with that friend of yours!” With that she slips inside, closing the door behind her.

You turn, carefully picking your way across lichen covered stones to the shore proper. Your trip through the village is a quiet one, besides a few people you see wandering towards or out of the inn the streets seem to be abandoned. You pass through the gates into the temple fortress unmolested and slip through the hatch into the tunnel beneath the fortress when nobody is looking. Unexpectedly the gardens of the temple itself are rather lively at this hour. You note a group of monks have built a fire next to the pond and are chatting amongst themselves, some of them are roasting meat over the flames. A few wave as you pass by, and you return the gesture.

(1/2)
>>
You pass through the temple, finding it much louder than it was during the day. From one door you hear oud music playing, and from another a large group of men and women talking. When you pass by the central square that the rest of the temple is built around you find it absolutely packed with monks, two dozen at least, sharing meals and talking with one another. One of them, you recognize them from the group that swarmed you and your companions earlier today, waves you over. You smile apologetically, shaking your head before slipping off towards Darzi's room. You can eat later.

{Where are you, Mik? It's been hours now, what's taking so long?} Your fist is literally poised in front of her door, ready to knock. Is she serious right now? {Open your door. I'm outside.} There is a pause. {Oh. Coming.} Darzi opens the door, stepping aside to allow you in. Chrys isn't here anymore, apparently she retreated to her own room at some point. Darzi closes the door behind you and sighs. “So did you get the potion?”

You pull out the vial of painkiller Ghada sold you. “The apothecary had a tonic intended to reduce pain and swelling, and after a conversation I had with the Varistha I think it would be better for you to be awake for this.” She frowns, taking the potion vial from your hands. “Are you sure?” You nod. “According to what the Varistha said, if you're in an improper emotional state or otherwise unaware of your surroundings it becomes much, much more difficult for me to heal your wounds.”

She sighs deeply. “Fine.” She twist the cork to break the wax seal and pluck is out, kicking back the potion vile and taking a long draught before stuffing the cork back into the vial and passing it to you.. That was at least two doses. You're a little irked, but you suppose it's understandable. You slip the vial back into your cloak and ask, tentatively. “How are you feeling?” She scrunches her face up in displeasure. “Besides nauseous? Normal. That stuff tasted vile.” She takes a step towards her bed, and promptly stumbles. Her arms fly out, one of them catching on your shoulder. You have to help her stand back up. “Alright, maybe not quite normal.” Her voice is starting to slur. It's almost like she's drunk.

You help her lay down on the bed and make sure she's comfortable. Why did she have to go gulping down the damn potion immediately? Before you can stand up she pulls you into an unexpectedly tight hug. “Listen to me a second, Mik.” She lets you go, slumping back onto the hard, uncomfortable mattress. “I appreciate what you're doing, I do. Even if, y'know. Things don't go as well as expected. I jus' wanna thank you for doin' this and all tha other shit too.” She's getting progressively loopier. “Also, Chrys said that if you try anythin' she'll cave your skull in while you sleep.”

Thanks for that sentiment, Chrys. Thanks.

>I'm gonna end it here. The OPERATION will go down Wednesday after I get out of class.
