You'd spent most of the past week studying every Senshado-legal panzer the French used, from the Renault FTs to the massive Chars B1. Maginot actually had a good stable of panzers to choose from, but you hadn't even considered that they'd gotten their hands on one of these.

You are Anzai Chiyomi, Commander of Anzio's Senshado Panzer Team, however the world would know you by your nomme de guerre- Anchovy. Before that, though, you need to deal with the 155mm howitzer slowly turning to face your tank as the Chars 2C-bis crawls up and over the hill to face you. An explosive charge that big would wreck a King Tiger- Your little P-40 wouldn't stand a chance from even an indirect hit.

"What do we do, Duche?" Your gunner asks, clearly a bit nervous. You've got two options- your P 40 is smaller and faster than the French Superheavy, if you can close the distance you can get under its guns and pick it apart from close range. On the other hand- the Chars 2C is also incredibly slow, if well armed and armored- if you pull back to you try to lead it towards the rest of your team and take it where you have the numerical advantage.

>Start firing!
>Pull back- engage it when you have help.

You can't take the 2C one-on-one- its armor is too thick and even if you could get around to its rear its got a 47mm anti-armor turret back there, too. You're the flag panzer- you can't afford to throw your flag tank at it- if you're knocked out it doesn't matter how successful you were at picking apart the rest of their force.

"Alright, get us out of here!" You call down to the driver. "Bring us towards them-" Your sentence is interrupted by one of the loudest noises you've ever heard- not the sharp crack of a 20mm or even the loud boom of the 75mm. It's longer, lower- you can practically hear it in your chest. There's hardly enough time for the boom to end before an even louder sound erupts behind you.

The Carro Armato P.40 is not a light panzer- it weighs over twenty-five tons, but it feels like the entire tank is lifted up off the ground and slammed back down. "What was that?!" You shout, feeling to make sure you're still in one piece. "Is everyone okay? Are we still operable?"

"We're good!" Your driver calls.

"DRIVE! GO!" It's gonna tank a while to put another round in the breech of that monster gun, you need to use that time well. You crack the hatch above you and look behind you- where there had been a thicket of trees and bushes at the edge of the clearing, the branches and leaves have been stripped and the trunks shattered like chopsticks.

The P-40 draws closer to the 2C and you can see the bulbous, cast turret tracking along with you- How fast are they able to load? What's its depression? You bite your lip- At this range they'll be hard-pressed to miss their second shot. "Faster!" You order. "Go faster!"

The V12 engine roars and the tank bounces along the soft grass, moving closer and closer to the 2C. You hold your breath- willing its crew to work slower. "C'mon..." You say, holding onto the periscope, eyes glues to the super heavy's turret. "C'mon!"

And then it fires a second time- the gun is a low-velocity howitzer so you see the round as it streaks from the barrel and whizzes over the top of your turret. "YES! We're under them! Go!" Invigorated by your new zone of safety, the P.40 surges foreward, and past the big tank- its cleared the hill so if you can get past it, you can use the same hill to prevent its rear gun from engaging you.

"Go forward!" You call and you driver takes you up and over the hill. "Alright, head back around the bottom of the hill- we need to get to Hina's group..." The SPGs will have more than enough firepower to take the 2C on.

Poor Maginot commander will never win anything.

As an aside the drama CDs reveal that Saunders does have a T26E1, it's just in poor condition and can't be used.
>>
>>34615448
>T26E1
>T26, early Pershing designation.
WaitWaitWaitWaitWait... Wait. You mean to say that Saunders has a Super Pershing of their own? Am I understanding you here?
>>
>>34615496

Not a Super Pershing- It's one of the earlier models. The Super Pershing generally referred to the group of Zebra Mission Pershings equiped with the T15-family of long-90mm guns and the famous up-armored T26E4.

Strictly speaking, you could cons
>>
>>34615448
Maginot and Anzio also run national themes that weren't very good in the actual war.

>Pic related: this match

>>34615554

>>
>>34615559

Actually, for the entirety of the part of the war where the French army was actually fighting the Germans, the French tanks were considered, overall, to be some of the best in the world. In fact many of their medium and heavy tanks were effectively immune to every anti-tank gun mounted on a German tank.

The defeat of the French in WWII was largely a strategic failure- the Maginot line was bypassed and the French armor build-up just wasn't mobile enough to bring to bear quickly enough.
>>
>>34615582

Weird, only copies part of that.

You could consider Black Jack to be a Super Pershing by having the T54, which was in the same family of guns as the T15s mounted on the true Super Pershings.

But their development basically ended early in the war, and everyone elses' leapt past.
>>
>>34615731
They had their own interesting projects (Char G1), the invasion just put a stop to them.
>>
>>34615731
Yeah, being conquered and occupied tends to do that to military research.
>>
>>34615587
That's not entirely correct. The SOMUA S-35 was arguably the best tank in the world in 1939, true. However, only a small fraction of the french armor pool was composed of S-35. The antiquated french doctrine still saw tanks basically as counterpunchers once the enemy has been stopped, and you can see that in their other designs. A Char B sure was immune to the "Heeranklopfsgerat" derivative that armed a Panzer III, but on the reverse, it was a lumbering behemoth unable to keep up with the modern mobile warfare, and a logistics and maintenance nightmare. Those monsters only managed to make a glorious last stand because the Germans were coming to them.
>>
>>34615587
It should be noted, however, that while having glorious paper stats, most French tanks suffered huge practical issues and made their crews hate them.

The S-35, for example, while being legendarily powerful in terms of speed, gun and armour, was a huge maintenance whore, a bitch to repair, and very unpleasant for the crew to operate.

Whereas "weaker" tanks like the PzIII and Pz.38(t) were much more reliable, easier on the logistics train, and much more ergonomically sound. One could comfortably claim that on operational and strategic levels, French tanks were comparatively crap.

ARL 44. Just saying, ARL 44.

You stay away from the roads- open terrain could give the 2C a shot at you if they get lucky. Not to mention dust would give away your position- The 2C had gotten the drop on you once already. Though really, if they'd actually expected you to be there you'd already be asking yourself how things had gone so terribly wrong. That hill was a naturally strong position for a flag tank, they probably just went there for the same reason you did- good range of view, defilade down on the valley below and open enough to retreat if threatened.

So your driver carefully crashes through the underbrush, its slower going- a lot more turning and stopping to find paths and avoid obstacles. You toggle the radio switch. "Flag tank to Roma Division- What's your position?" You ask calmly.

"We're about to hit the river- We're coming towards position Alpha-12. Do you still need assistance?" Hina replies. "We might need to take out the group that Napoli Division disabled..."

>"Take them out first- make sure you cross safely."
>"If you're fast they won't notice you."

"Don't have time, Hina." You say, looking at your map. "Sort of a good news/bad news situation up here..." You say as the P.40 slows to crawl over a fallen tree. "Good news is we've found their flag panzer- bad news is its a Super Heavy and we don't have the firepower to take it out.

"What?" She says, the radio registering her disbelief.

"Can't risk you hitting that convoy- you're to move around them. Up or down stream, just rendevous at Grid C-14." You order. "And hurry- its not fast, but it is mobile."

"Roger." She says, simply. While taking out the disabled convoy would be easy, it'll just waste time- either way knocking out the Char 2C will end the battle in your favor.

You sit down and study the map- All things consider- the 2C heading for that hill was smart- it would let them fan out in front of it along the valley and use it as fire-support. In was only your team's relative mobility that allowed them to engage before it was in position- but even a few minutes difference could've allowed that howitzer to wipe out chunks of your team.

Well, half of success is luck, the other half is the skill to capitalize on it- you know where their flag panzer is, you've isolated or destroyed the rest of its team- now you just have to get around its massive armor and huge 155mm gun...
