Having died in a plane accieent, you were reborn in a fantasy world. Now, your life continues as Eldric, the son of Cedric and Linda Lightbringer, a couple of retired adventurers living in a quiet little hamlet.

After our father gave you the family sword, he left to fight the Alquian army in the south. For several months, his letters arrived semi regularly, but then stopped altogether. Now, orders to evacuate reached the village, and having no other choice, your mother purchased a wagon and horse to migrate to the magical university in the eastern lands, beyond the Skyridge mountain range.

You are Eldric Lightbringer, age 7, human male.

The road to the city of Albion is long and full with peril, but you convinced your mother to accept a position as teacher in her old university, instead of going north to the capital, which may soon be under siege.
>>
>>34646775

Your delicate-looking, beautiful mom surprises you as she turns out to be much more sturdy and worldly than you thought. She confidently steers the wagon while you sit in the back with Elli, your family's elf maid, and take care of Athena, your 1 year old baby sister,

Along the way, Elli keeps telling you about the plants and animals on the road, as well as cuddling you and your sister to sleep against her generous, soft bossom.

"Eldric, please take my journal out from the red chest... right, that one." -your mom takes the chance to continue your education in magic, using her old college notebook/journal as teaching aid.

On your considerable free time, do you want to

[ ] Learn about the natural world with Elli

"You know, I was quite worried when you began using magic so soon after being born." -your mom starts- "But you were always a naturally mature boy."

You keep quiet. You did decide not to tell your new parents that you still have the memories of your previous life.

"What I really found strange, however, was how you used magic without chanting it first. I've read about chantless magic before, but it was meant to be a very advance technique that only the most famous wizards ever used."

"Is it really that strange."

"It's not strange, my love. Just rare. There's a difference." -your mom says and kisses your forehead.

She keeps teaching you about magic. Since fireballs are too dangerous on top of a wooden cart, she tries to steer you towards rock bullets and water blasts instead.

You find that they are much harder to use than fireballs, but as you keep practicing them, they, too, grow easier and easier.

Perhaps gaining experience with a particular spell makes it easier to use?
>>
>>34647006

Elli, in turn, picks up any useful herb that she spots along the way, and tells you about it at lenght.

Every evening, she places traps for small animals near any rabbit hole or foxden she spots, and you are quite surprised to find that the world is much more RPG-like than you first thought.

Rabbits ahd foxes "poof" when killed, and most often leave pelts behind themselves when they do so.

From time to time, you do get "rabbit meat" as a neatly preserved item, however.

I suppose that, being a middle-aged man, we have the mental willpower to not play as a child would normally, and instead powerlevel ourselves.
Every waking moment not taken by chores should be devoted to leveling/training something.
Like Cook; 1% bonus to Critical Hit per level, man. At level 50, every other hit would be a crit.
>>
Just my opinion but you should probably put a note like 1/? or something at the end of posts that aren't last and don't require user input
>>
>>34647074

It feels weird to see the animals just... vanish like that. Sure, you played plenty of P&P as well as online games, but you have to wonder if an orc is a type D treasure creature. Maybe theres some copper coins scattered about in the old bear's cave right now.

Your mother has little trouble dealing with any random encounter that may show up along the way. You and Elli and even Athena are in a party with her, but either she is getting the lion's share of exp, or the little ooze and the ocassional goblin just aren't enough to bump your levels along the way.

Soon, you reach the Skyridge mountains. Your mom tells you that much more dangerous creatures will begin appearing from now on, and to stay on the wagon at all times.

It's literally midnight over here, so I won't stick around long.

Now, from what I understand, this is a quest based on Mushoku Tensei and things like that.

>new system
Yeah, that was a good idea. OOC knowledge is world-breaking in this setting. That being said, I have doubts that your playerbase is capable of causing an industrial or magical revolution with only write-ins.

>bonus points
Jesus Christ we're already overpowered for a 10 year old. Why are there still bonus points that only we can manipulate!? The other problem is that bonus points run completely contrary to the idea of improving yourself through your own efforts. We didn't train x, we just leveled up and put points in it without ever practising.

>skill points
Normally, capping things at 100 is acceptable, but with the number of skills that are obviously going to be important, your system highly encourages maxing out 3-4 skills before slowly investing in new skills, while relying on the skills that are already capped to do anything of consequence.

Besides, if the power levels are anything like Mushoku Tensei, I wouldn't be surprised at modifiers reaching the thousands...

>jobs/classes
it looks...kinda ok, but I'm worried that if you unlock any more jobs, votes will get bogged down by deciding which jobs should stay locked or unlocked.
>>
>>34647161
oh that sounds like a good idea, but whenever there's a need to user input, i usually give options or just say "your cue". Still, will do, thanks
***

You wonder... playing around with the rabbit meat, you try to focus on making something out of it, but all you get is a scolding from Elli, telling you not to play with the food.

The petite, busty elf maid does look cute when she's admonishing you, tho. She places both hands on her hips and tends to lower her eartips at such times.

Interesting that she doesn't have any bonus points to spend, while our parents both had over a hundred.

Oh, I like that LN, and yes I got the idea partially from there, and partially from 2 other novels, one where the MC was reborn as an ooze, and another where he appeared as classless guy and right off the bat he got the thief class because he thought that some shoes that were around were part of his "starting gear"

I wonder if we should go with typical dantasy ages for the inhuman races, or go with "they actually live just as long as humans. Its just that humans cant tell the aging signs of other species, and thus created that myth." In that case, Elli would be 14 years old when we were born, and currently 22
>>
>>34647464
I like the typical personally. Though I'm also a fan of powerful magic slowing aging.

Unless deliberately modified with meditation and heart rate manipulation, longer-lived races live life slower, possibly even perceive life slower than others. Using hybrid magic is much harder than you expected. You don't just make one and then the other. You have to use both at the same time.

Still, you manage to use wind with your other elements, increasing their range by 20%.

Your mother cheers for your success, and makes sure you are all safe while she keeps watch.

The next morning, you arrive at a small dwarven settlement.

The town is almost entirely under the mountain, with just the stores out in the open. Your mom imagines that her smart 8 years old must be eager to explore a dwarven town, so she tells you to go back to the town entrance if you get lost.

The dwarven merchants seem amused by you. They certainly aren't used to a human child being as smart as you, or to a big breastes elf girl wearing a maid uniform around these parts.

You get Elli a hair accesory of polished lapizlazuli, and get smoked meat sticks for the both of you.

The dwarves carry mostly metal goods, no surprises there, albeit you also see glass bottles and small mirrors.

You didin't notice when, but you are right at the edge of a slaver's platform. Looking up, you see dwarves of all ages and both sexes.

Elli: "Ah, young master, we should go back to your mother now."

You go back with Elli, giving a last look at the people on the platform. They look rather healthy and well cared for, but you wouldnt want to find out just what the life of a slave is really like.

Elli: "What is it, young master, are you tired?" -she says as she looks at how quiet you are, and picks you up, carrying you back horsey style towards the wagon.

Your mom admonishes you for making Elli carry you, but Elli says that she's the one that picked you up.

After buying supplies and cashing in on the rabbit and fox pelts, your mom pays for a night of bed and shelter at a clean-looking in.

That night, all of you share a room together. Your mom and Elli wash you and Athena and then soak in the bath all together before going to bed.

It is a peaceful night.

In the morning, your mom asks around for the condition and safety of the roads. She seems happy to hear that a large caravan is going east towards the magic college in Albion, so she buys space for your family to join them, and the rest of the trip is thankfully a peaceful one.

Magic City Albion
Originally a single mage's tower, Albion the Red had an habit of purging monsters and bandits from his lands, and the merchants of the east and west made a habit of meeting at the feet of his tower.

Over time, a small hamlet grew into a town, and after Albion took a small group of students and taught them to defend their homes and families with magic, the small town grew into the university town it is today.

A large white city, Albion boasts of the best and most organized coprs of battle mages in the north of the continent, with a spotless track record when it comes to repelling invasions from would be warlords, self appointed conquerors, and so called ontegration and pacification attempts by several realms over the millenia.

The small white tower to the north of town is all that remains of Albion the Red, but Albion's Magical University carries his name with pride.

The dean is happy to see your mom, and hires her ip so facto as of the next trimester. In the meanwhile, you are all welcome to use the university's facilities however you want, albeit your mom prefers to rent a small house for now.

The dean still keeps her busy, however, having her help with lectures and special studies, which means that you are mostly free until the next school year starts.

Yes, your mother signed you up for magic school.

As it turns out, there are 2 famous dungeons in town. One is actually directly under the magical university, and it's actively used as part of the later courses education in battle magic.

There is also another dungeon on the eastern side of town, which is popular with adventurers since the battlemages tend to patrol the region and keep monsters under control, thus making dungeon delving into the adventurer's most common activity.

From what you learn looking at the books in the university, dungeons are living beings of a sort. They deour intruders and "crap" out their items as treasure chests, slowly growing over time as more and more bodies nurture it.

Still, since it is a place where monsters can be certainly found, adventurers and even merchants often go into them in order to acquire materials and treasure.

The older the labyrinth, the deeper.

The one under the university has 33 explored floors, and the one on the eastern side of town has 15 explored floors.

A couple of weeks before classes starts, your mom takes you out shopping for a uniform and school supplies.

The paper of your brand new journal is yellowish and looks brittle, but looking at its magnificent leather and metal case, it is obviously a high quality item, and must have been expensive. It is heavy and solid enough that you are quite sure you can use it as a blunt weapon if need be.

Your mom also got you a small staff. It is solid black wood with a clear crystal on the end. You can tell your spells are considerably cheaper to use when you channel them through your staff.

The 1st year class you sign up for its actually a grab bag of people between 12 and 30 years of age. You are the youngest by far, followed by a cute redheaded girl wearing a old, worn out uniform. She is hugging her journal, a shaggy looking collection of loose paper between two wooden planks, and has neither wand nor staff.

She has the brightest blue eyes you had ever seen, in this world or the other, and bright red, smooth long hair.

Load a cheap-ass wooden bolt. Classes are mostly about magic safety during the first trimester, as well as history, math, and magical theory.

You learn that the common belief is that magic runs on mental power, commonly known as "MP" amongst the dabblers of the art.

MP is also a source of fortitude, and there are cases of mages who have fainted at critical times because they abused their mental power beyond of what they were really capable of doing...

You have classmates of a wide variety of races, including beast people, elves, dwarves, humans, and even a odd looking fella with spiral horns growing straight up from his forehead.

The redheaded girl is called Lyann. She is a slave and the collective property and pet of the 12th magic brigade in the city. Apparently, her dad was a mage trooper who fell rescuing some big shot kid who went too deep into the university's college. Since she lived alone with her dad, she would have been sold in the slaver's stockade, but her father's colleagues pooled their resources and bought her, instead,

"...thank you." -she says softly as you help her pick up her notes after they slip out from the planks that make her "journal".

Flesh artificing. It's a little thing I came up with on some freeform years ago.

Essentially, when a healer fucks up, and I mean fucks up bad, the common practice is to have some kinda mutation occur. Most people look at this and cringe, saying, "Medicine needs skill, as always." I, being a mad scientist, look at it and say, "Holy shit, free mutations."

Flesh artificing is basically intentionally fucking up healing magic in order to mutate things, using another kind of magic (Alteration/evocation/whatever fits in that category) to shape that mutation into something beneficial. When mixed with what seems to be Alchemy in this setting, you've got altering flesh and muscles in order to have super-strength, seeing into the ether, super-speed, bones that are stronger than a dragon's, etc. Nasty shit to be practicing, often outlawed because it is LITERALLY fucking with the natural order of things.

You spend the evenings teaching magic to your new friend. Your mom is proud of you, She doesn't has the time to teach you as often, but is more than happy to do so from time to time as you sit with your friend on the garden and she explains magic to the two of you.

Lyann has fun studying with you. She is very smart, but meek, and follows you around in the campus. Sometimes nagging a little when you do stuff you aren't meant to.

[ ] Try to sneak with Lyann into the dungeon to test your magic. It's only the 1st floor, how hard can it be?

Yes, I thought someone would be amused by the fedaykin reference. Also, you may or may not have noticed, but the slave social class lowers the requirements for classes by 5-10 levels since it probably means your owner wants you to focus 100% into your training.

It gets the most attribute and hp per level, but NO weapons training until you take s specifically warrior class at level 20

The dungeon entrance is under watch to prevent younger students from doing reckless things, but you manage to make a copy of your mom's keystone during the magic workshop lessons.

When the teacher asks, you say it's a copy of the key to a chest at home.

The dungeons smells of moss. You can see thanks to the flowing fungus on the walls, the stone walls strangely warm as you walk in feeling the wall to your left.

You make it past the first hallway when you see one of the dungeon's constructs. In this case, it imitates a floating white glove.

It just floats back and forth along the hallway. It hasn't noticed you yet.

You can't tell how much MP you have left, but it doesn0t feel as if you have even scratched the surface of your reserves yet.

Since the Zenite died with 2 shots of your Magic Arrow (cost 4 mana each), you calculate it would probably go down with 1 fireball, easy (Cost 10 mana each).

As you contnue advancing, you see another Zenite inside a room. This one notices you and begins moving towards you right away.

The zenites die in the conflagration. They each leave a ball of yarn behind. You feel fine, yMP is fine, you think.

By now, you are fairly sure that one fireball is enough to take a zenite down, as long as it hits, but attacking by surprise, that hardhly seems like an issue.

It is a little worrying that these things make no sound as they move, however.

Your Scion job raises your exp by 50%
Your Noble level went up by 1, your Healer leel went up by 1.

These monsters are meant to be taken down by a squad of students, but you seem to be fine on your own.

The balls of yarn sell for 3 copper each. Which is not much at all. In fact, it is barely enough to buy a smoked meat stick from a street stand.

The Zenite card is 20000 coppers, or 2 gold coins. You can try selling it directly to a merchant, or put it up for auction, but you would probably need to give your name for an auction, and get the feeling you wouldnt be allowed to use the adventurer's guild auction house, anyway.

Because the zenites are a known construct that have been covered already in classes, and that Lyann is smarter than us so can probably connect the dots, especially since she's seen us push the boundaries of what we're allowed to do.

Your cute friend rises an eyebrown at your words, but its much too amused by your cat, whom she wants to call Reginald Von Fuss, to care right now.

"I am worth 200 gold coins! ...right now. But my uncles say I will be worth 10 times as much in three years." -she declares proudly

Yes. Pretty, virgin, redhead, trained in magic 15 years old slavegirl. That sounds about right...and quite pricey.

Right now, she costs as much as two times the horse and wagon your mom bought for the trip here,

Elli serves you both a slice of cake, and you spend the rest of the evening playing with Lyann and Athena, and then practicing magic.

Your little sister looks at you with a completely serious face until you start making bubbles, and then she laughs as they pop on top of her.

Elli nags you gently for pouring (a bit) of water on your baby sister,

Yes, but not all in one night. Still, you didint took much damage and you heal 1/2 way to 100% overnight tonight

The following days you just have a few bruises.

That night, you ask your mom if she can buy Lyann while she is bathing your sister and you in the same tub.

"I... I'm sorry son, but we spent most of our money moving here, and most of what we had left buying furniture, the house, clothes... we are well off, but not so much that we could just spend that much right now." -your mom seems genuinely sorry about it- "Do you want Lyann to be your big sister?" -she seems to think you are attached to Lyann that way

That night, your mom stays awake thinking on what she could do while looking at her wedding ring.

"Uhmm... " -Elli thinks about it seriously, same way she always considers anything you ask her- "250 golds? I suposse we could...uhmmm..." -she crosses her arms and frowns as she thinks seriously- "maybe in two years if we did low rank quests in the Adventurer's Guild. Looking for lost pets, helping with rat killing, carrying things, stuff like that."

>>34653330
>Work on 21st century engineering at night.
that sounds like a good idea... my friend says he knows how to make soap, and soap is quite expensive in a medioeval world. Maybe we could make it scented if we asked Ellis for help with herbs?

The jobs vary widely at the adventurer's guild, but the cheapest ones are still worth at least 20 silver coins. That is 2/10 of a gold coin.

A kid wearing a magic student uniform and a pretty elf maid looking at the quest board draw in enough curiosity that a tall dwarf (well, tall for a dwarf) approaches you.

"I see... well, if you are looking for quick cash, you can only try the eastern dungeon, kid. Which year are you in at the school?" -the dwarf has as much trouble guessing your age as you would have guessing his. Elli keeps quiet, waiting for you to decide

Well, it looks like everyone wants to join a party. And make soap.

As it turns out, there are two ways to go about the soap.

1) You can buy the cheapest soap in the market and upgrade it with oil and herbs, then resell it as luxury soap. This way is the easiest but its not THAT profitable
2) Use lye and oils, and basically cook it at home. The lya can be dangerous if you dont respect it.

The dwarf looks at you for a while, and finally asks you to show him what you can do in the shooting range behind the guild. Once he sees your skill, he decides you can join his party.

Elli wants to join as well, but can't leave Athena alone at home (she is currently carrying her, ie) and she is certainly not going to take her into a dungeon.

She agrees to keep quiet, tho. Your father saved her, and she's confident that you can save Lyann as well!

Let Elli know what we're going to need, and have her buy it at the market and get it ready at home.

With the cat and our baby sister, I don't want to risk chemical burns just yet.
After we make a score with the dwarf, we can take a smaller job with Elli, because I want to increase our relationship with her.

Alright, you join the dwar's party, "Smoking Cold".
It is a group made up by Grumir, a level 5 Smith/25 villager acting as the front line tank, and Miiyau, a level 25 druid/25 nomadfeline-type beast girl who can fill a grab bag of party needs.

They say you'll have to join them starting tomorrow evening.

That evening you go with Elli to the market and buy the cheapest ass soap you can. You had enough money for 3 bars.

Do you want to sell your Zenite card? it would be enough for 2000 bars. The merchant would deliver them to your house free of charge.

2 Hp remaining! YOU LIVE!
>>
>>34654361
It's a 20% damage resist that can be applied to any armor.
Sure, it's no good for a low level piece of leather armor, but apply it to some magic plate, and it'll let it shrug off rifle rounds.
>>
>>34654283

Your mom is very impressed with your initiative. She really admires how smart her son is.

Elli says that she will gather herbs in the evenings, and start growing aromatic herbs. You teach her and your mom how to aromatize the soap bars using oils and herbs.

Elli doesn't tells your mom about you joining an adventuring party. She feels quite guilty about it but she believes you know what you are doing.

Your mom thinks you are simply spending the evenings looking for herbs as well.

The next day, you report to the guild and meet up with Grumir and Miiyau.
