You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

While you and the others prepare to fetch the cake that you ordered for Marianne, the Princess herself is stuck back at the castle...

>Congratulations, you are now a timid LLAMA!
>Llamas are strong and hardy... but also rather skittish.
>The Princess considers you to be her friend!
>But while llamas may be majestic, they still don't count as people.

"I'm really sorry, Marianne... would you please cheer up even a little?" Father says, pleading with both his words and eyes.
"I don't see much of a reason to," I reply.

I know that this isn't really his fault, but I had PLANS today and I'd been looking forward to them for a long while. But now all of that is cancelled, for now I'm stuck here in the castle accompanying Father on some meeting with a royal messenger from Marconetti. Under normal circumstances I'd change into one of my usual dresses, but you know what? I'm not even going to bother.

And even if I -had- wanted to do so, Melanie's the one who normally helps me into my clothes and she's out in the city with the others right now.

I hope they're at least enjoying themselves.

We're not yet. Llama Rank. But we have to save face and eventually do better than Millien, who apparently got higher than us before the molesting incident.

It'll be too humiliating if we don't get a Rank Up or two before the end of the quest.

It was a joke.
Marianne's breasts are the same size as her mother's, and that's good enough for her.

"Maybe Her Highness's mood would be improved by a joke?" Sir Anatole asks, bowing his head to me.
"I'd rather you didn't," I reply. His jokes are always overly lewd, the type that I've overheard the guards telling each other while trying to pass the time on duty. Even Reinhold's terrible puns are preferable to that.

And so, we find ourselves walking to the conference room without saying much of anything to one another. Not that I'm in the mood to do so anyways. Once we reach the door, Sir Anatole holds it open for us.

"Anything I should be wary of before I actually see this guy?" Father asks in a hushed voice.
"The guy barely said a word to me," Sir Anatole replies with a shrug. "I tried to find out, but a lowly Knight like myself isn't allowed to hear royal messages..."
"Oh well," Father sighs. "Looks like we get a surprise this time around, Marianne!" he says, turning to me with a goofy smile.

But I don't smile back.

As we enter the room where the messenger is waiting, he rises from his seat when he sees us approach.

"Your Majesty! Princess Marianne!" the messenger says, bowing to us. "So good to see you again!"
"Likewise," Father replies.

I suppose this is a messenger who's come here before, but I don;t recognize him. But still, I've found it best to pretend that I'm familiar with people who claim to have met me even if I have no memory of them. If nothing else, it reduces the amount of lengthy introductions that I have to suffer through.

"So what brings you back to our kingdom?" Father asks. "Is this related to Celestino's closing the border?
"In part," the messenger replies.

He then proceeds to describe the events of the past few days in Marconetti at length, mostly involving an extremely bloody affair that took place two days ago involving a small faction of traitorous guards who hadn't been completely flushed out during that first incident with them. upon being found out, they made failed attempt to free their assumed leader, the former Guard Captain Clemens Daimler.

Though their efforts failed, the traitors were able to get into contact with the remnants of their assassin group who had remained in the area, and it appears that the border closing was in order to keep them from escaping to another country.

He told both of them he wasn't ready, it's just that he went with Luci. If he'd have gone with Sylvie that night it would have been the same thing in reverse, telling Luci he wasn't ready then shacking up with Sylvie.
It's not really that either girl is worst, it's that Rein is worst.

"That's certainly... alarming news, to say the least," Father says to the messenger. "I trust that Celestino and Alberto are unhurt?"
"Yes, they're doing just fine," the messenger replies.
"That's good to hear," I reply.

Though it's not much of a silver lining, I have to admit.

"So that's the message you came here to bring?" Father asks. "Just a report of the goings-on in Marconetti? Pardon me if I seem kind of suspicious here, but nothing that you just told me would have been too risky to have relayed by a simple letter," he says, crossing his arms. "And it would have been a lot faster, too."

And from there, I'll start making outlines and hunting for artists and all that. The current plan is to make a demo that contains the first three in-game days and then work from there.

"As expected, you've seen right through me," the messenger says with a resigned smile. "Very well, I'll get to the point."
"Please do, this impromptu visit of yours has cost my daughter here her day out on the town," Father rests his hand on my shoulder.

The messenger looks rather guilty upon being told that.

"Basically..." the messenger sighs, "...the King is worried. Though all the traitors seem to have been rooted out now, there's no telling if any of the other divisions of our forces have been infiltrated. Not to mention that we still have no concrete clue as to who exactly is behind this plot."
"I definitely can't blame him for paranoid," Father replies. "This still doesn't have much to do with Granache though."
"Basically," the messenger sighs, "Our King, Celestino Saella di Marconetti, would like to ask for your help. Personally."
"Oh?"
"How so?" I ask. "Surely you don't expect him to physically go over there and fight these traitors..."

"Oh no!" the messenger furiously shakes his head. "I wouldn't even dream of-"
"It was a joke," I sigh. "Calm down."
"Sorry..." he sighs, "it's just that what you said is rather close to my actual request, and..."
"In what way?" Father asks.
"Well, the number of direct subordinates that the King can trust to act on his behalf in a strong combat position is extremely low at the moment. And most of them are posted at our border with Ancelotta... back in the capitol, there only three Knights who he feels that he can trust, and that's only because they've proven themselves not to have been compromised during the initial incident."

I'm fairly certain that I know what he's leading up to.

"So the King was wondering if perhaps you'd be willing to lend the help of his old friend Guillaume Ar-"
"Absolutely not," Father says, cutting the man off before he can even finish his sentence.
"B- but if you'd at least let me explain..."
"No, I know exactly what you're about to say. Celestino and Arnaud are old friends from back before either of our grandfathers were born, and he's certain that he'd be able to take out whoever it is that's behind this in a flash if only he had his best friend by his side. Right?"
"...yes..."

Wow, Father. He's even more on-point than usual.

"But I'm going to have to turn down your request, seeing as how Arnaud's vital to -this- country's security," Father says. "ESPECIALLY now that we have a potential target painted on our backs thanks to the fact that three of his kids are here, including the one who had been targeted back before this situation even escalated."

Though I had expected the messenger to resign himself to defeat after father so thoroughly tore apart his request, he simply flashes a tired smile and resumes speaking.

"Yes, that's the answer that the King told me to expect," the messenger sighs. "And in that case, I suppose you'd also refuse to send Sir Gregory or Sir Vincent..."
"The same reason that I'm not giving you Arnaud applies to them," Father replies. "Not to mention that Gregory'd kill me if I tried to send him back over there after he already had to spend so much time away from his wife and sons."
"I don't understand why you're so insistent on getting one of -our- people," I say. "Surely there's someone else that you could make this request of."

Though we may be Marconetti's oldest ally, we're definitely not its only one.

"The King has a special respect for the integrity of Granache's people," the messenger replies. "Or rather, for its Knights. Strength aside, he's rather certain that he wouldn't have to worry about a potential traitorous actions by a Knight that he got on loan from this Kingdom..."

I expect we'll be interluding as whoever we send there and Arch either introduced Anatole at this point because he's either interesting and relevant OR he's a redshirt.
Both possibilities attract me.

Isn't this his job, route out threats to the kingdom since he works for the spymaster? While I wouldn't mind sending Anatole, I don't trust the fuck and isn't his job to be a border guarding, so wouldn't he go back and do that?

"Sir Anatole is just outside, and I don't believe that he's been assigned to do anything else," I say. "Why not send him?"
"Anatole?" Father turns to me. "You think so?"
"I don't see why not," I reply.
"Alright then," he nods. "Let's let that be your first royal decision, Marianne."
"...eh?"

Wait, I only said that as a simple suggestion, I didn't mean-

"Sir Anatole..." the messenger nods. "Very well. While the King will be disappointed that I wasn't able to convince you to lend him more than one man, we'll do our best with just him."
"And tell Celestino not to screw around and get him killed, you got that?" Father says. "no sending him on suicide missions or anything like that."
"Of course not," he replies. "Now about the final matter that I was sent here about..."

The messenger spends the next -hour- detailing the security on the border and how King Celestino's trying to secure the borders to make sure that nothing can get through... his main point being that the Granache/Marconetti border is their weakest point of security. Somehow, he manages to convince Father to bolster the number of our own border guards that are posted to our side.

...then again, it's also to our benefit that security be increased if it means preventing those assassins from entering our country.

That's all for this round of threads. Many thanks to everyone who stuck it through to the end, I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I'd also like to thank eeryone who's stuck it out this far. I know that the atmsphere in these threads is kind of awful on occasion and I myself am far from a perfect QM, but it means a lot that I've somehow managed to run this thing for a full year without being run off the board or dropped by everything because I can't write worth a damn.

The next Princess Guard thread will pick up where this one left off, with a continuation to the Marianne stuff. I hope I didn't suck too much with this interlude.

And now it's question time, as I have some stuff to take care of before I go to sleep.

What's your favorite bit of trivia about one of your characters? A random piece of their backstory you had the most fun coming up with?

How effective is Niklaus in combat?

How large is Granache's armies?

Is there anything we should know about Anatole now we've signed his death warrant?

>When's the next thread?
Dunno. Probably Sunday night.
I'll be running False Dendrite next.

>>34671589
>What's your favorite bit of trivia about one of your characters? A random piece of their backstory you had the most fun coming up with?
Probably one of the childhood stories. That stuff's always fun to come up with.

>>34671593
>How effective is Niklaus in combat?
He's no slouch, though he's not exactly a fighter. Magic onry.

>How large is Granache's armies?Cos relying on like four dudes doesn't really seem like the best national defense strategy
They don't take the place of the army itself, it's just that Arnaud and Gregory are vital to the running of the kingdom itself. While things can certainly function without them, it would make things a lot more difficult.
Vincent is pretty much entirely military deterrence, though.

>>34671599
>Who did you expect us to send to Marconetti?
The original plan was to not give a prompt at all and just send Anatole, but then you guys started to suggest stuff so I said hey why not.

>Is there anything we should know about Anatole now we've signed his death warrant?
You'll learn more about him later.

>>34671615
>What potential plot thread are you most disappointed we missed?
I'm still kind of bummed that you guys kicked Sylvie to the curb almost entirely. There was some stuff with her and Vincent that I'm not going to be able to do in the quest itself because of it.

And then there's deciding to leave Luciana after the initial attack. Had you not done that, the Karel reveal would have been done before the routelock and things might have went completely differently.
Karel's route would probably be the most fun for me to write, though Nicolette still best girl.
>>
>>34671923
>You'll learn more about him later.
At the eulogy, I assume, where his heartbroken wife, ailing parents, and four adorably disabled children speak about what an inspiration he was, and how they'll never be able to afford Tiny Timmy's medication without his selfless dedication.

>Best girl?
Nicolette

>Worst girl?
Spinelle. Bitch be crazy.

>Best moment?
Dance critfail. That's when I REJOICED and fully got into Marianne's character.

>Who would you like to play as if not Rein?
Andreas or Karel.

>Worst player decision?
I plead the Fifth.

>One decision you'd like the change?
Routelock.
Nicolette best girl.

>Fight/Duel you'd like to see most?
TBA

>VN when?
未来

>Rein gets a knighthood, what's his nickname?
Dunno.

>Who were Rein's parents?
Nobody if importance.

>When will Marianne see Rein as a person?
When he becomes a real boy.

>What will Nico do after she's knighted?
Go adventuring.

>Who will Sylvie chase when she gets over Rein?
Who's to say that'll ever happen?

>What would Volker make of Rein now?
He'd be proud.

>Would somebody just up and fuck Rana already?
All the guys who have tried have been chased away.

>Does Reya get Dragon Envy?
Sometimes, but he is confident that his day will come.
>>
>>34671923
>And then there's deciding to leave Luciana after the initial attack.
I do not disagree with leaving her, because I understand people wanted to check up on Marianne, but not going back was so fucking retarded. I'm glad you gave us the interlude of Luciana crying herself to sleep because most of the players needed that slap.
>>
>>34671972
Don't be absurd. It would be "Tiny Thibaut", we are in not-France, afterall.
>>
>>34671993
Where is Spinelle now? Will/How willRein run into her?
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

>How will Citrine be as a Mother?
da best

>What will Marius' next big work be?
Dependent entirely on inspiration.

>Will Elena ever get to be a swordie?
She certainly hopes so.

>Has Takamaru picked up too many death flags?
There is never too many death flags.

>How much can Vincent actually eat?
Far to much.

>What would Greg have done to Rein if he upset Nico during her confession?
Mean things.

>Will Monique waifu his sword?
He already is. The question is whether or not she will waifu him.

>Will Matthias get fluffy tails?
mayb

>What would Niklaus do with unlimited resources?
What he's doing right now, but without those pesky "moral limits."

>What's up with Arnaud's sneak detection?
is sekrit

>Will Rein ever learn to creep like Gerhard?
Doubtful.

>How much of Celestino's shadowruns are true?
__%

>How will Emilio react to Karel's secret?
Unknown.

>What the fuck is wrong with Racquel? No, seirously.
It's a terminal case of perversion.

And now it is time for me to sleep. Thanks for playing!

Guys, I think I've had a revelation in regards to Tina.

I recall a while back, Archelon mentioning that the bracelet becoming its own entity (I.E. Tina) was theoretically possible, and while I was thinking about how "The World" sorts things I think I figured out a possible how.

Nikalaus said the bracelet was being registered as "part of" Rein. I think thats because it doesnt carry any weight, metaphysically speaking, its just a lump of metal with some crystals in it. It holds no individuality in the worlds eyes, so to speak. Its just a lump of generic building material saturated with Reins magic go go juice, no different from the calcium in his bones or the iron in his blood, filled away in the universal file registry as part of his material components.

Heres the kicker though. Gregory explained a while back that when you name something, the world recognizes it as unique individual, inanimate or not. It gets its own file in the registry system. What this could possibly mean is that rather than Reinhold and the bracelet being seen as single entity becasue the -share- the same mana, the world will see it as Tina The Bracelet -stealing- Reinhold mana in a reserve for its self. Since the bracelet becomes a unique entity when named, in a sense it owns the mana feeds on now.

Now this is where shit gets real so try and stay with me. Nikalaus said the crystal could act as a battery for mana, and possibly even focus enough in one place to form an elemental spirit. Right now the crystal is limited by low capacity, and would burn out long before the critical mass was reached to accomplish so, but with a high enough capacity strain to act as the incubator, I'm betting Tina could form her own soul.

Either that or I'm crazy
