After dying in a plane crash, we hit a new life by rolling a critical 20! Not only are you able to remember your past life, but you have reincarnated into a world with magic, where common everyday things operate on RPG logic and rules, the perfect new life for a veteran fa/t g/uy!

Now, as Eldric, an 8 years old wizard/ knight/ scion/ ranger/ noble (yes, you started metagaming right away), we are making dungeon runs with a dwarf and a catgirl in order to gather enough money to buy a friend's slave livense.

Hopefully, the luxury soap business we are running thanks to our house's busty elf maid (no, not that kind of soap business) will help us gather the funds we need.

Going out of the dungeon, Grummir takes us to the market so he can sell the loot and split things evenly between party members.

After discounting your new chainmail suit (which gives you +12 Armor, btw), Grummir gives you 370 silver coins (roughly 1/3 of a gold coin).

Your new armor costs 1 gold and 600 silvers, however, so keep it or sell it.

You bid farewell to your party members and explain them that you have things to do every other day so you won't be around tomorrow, but will be around the after that.

They feel it is regrettable, but you were a great help so they look forward to seeing you the day after tomorrow.

You arrive home to find that Elli and Lyann have been making soap all evening. The kitchen's table is covered with a few blocky, sweetly scented soap bars, but then they got creative and made star, moon, and flower shaped luxury soap using cookie molds.

"Oh, thanks Hêven you are alright! how did it go?" -Elli checks you thoroughly for wounds and bruises

"Eldric, I still can't believe you did that! but how was it!?" -your friend Lyann is wearing one of Elli's aprons. It looks way too large for her, but she looks rather adorable on it.

btw Ranger gives you 1 (one) Item slot, JSYK.
I really dont see the big problem, tho. Elli has 3 item slots, and Lyann has 10

***

You tell them about the dungeon in detail. Lyann is thoroughly impressed, but Elli just listens carefully all the way to the end.

"It sounds like your group is taking their time... I guess it's fine, but next time please wear your armor, young master... wait, actually, can you wear your armor and use magic at the same time?"

You can, actually, nobles have a rather big advantage in that sense. Even if you werent taking multiple jobs, your noble class gives you armor proficiency.

You help them pack away the first soaps into crates, which Lyann stores away on her Item Box to take and sell later in the market.

"I would feel better if we went together, Eldric." -she says while looking a bit dejected

It is still somewhat bright outside. Lyann looks at you, and you get an idea.

Does turning off a class mean that we can't access those abilities anymore, or they simply don't get XP so we don't get their bonuses from leveling them?

Also, wouldn't it seem suspicious if her Slave level is high, but her Wizard level is low?
We'd have to turn both Slave and Wizard off, and turn on Villager.

actually its not a bad idea to switch her job. Its not as if there's a market for maid rangers, and if she starts leveling as artisan, she can make the soap faster too

Instead of us making the change, we could just suggest it to Mom and Elli that she could make the soap and chess pieces easier and faster as an artisan.
We've already learned that Job changes are done by Priests, so we could suggest that, instead of doing it ourselves.

But do we have to pay the Priest of the Job change?

Suggest to Mom and Elli to have Elli go through a Job change to become an Artisan, and start making the soaps and chess sets.

You escort Lyann to the soldiers' barracks, which she seems to find somehow complicated (being escorted by a child three years younger than her and knowing he's actually stronger than she is). She still gives you a smooch on the forehead and thanks you properly before you go.

Your mother is home when you arrive. She is in the kitchen with Elli, sitting at the table and looking at one of the star-shaped soaps when you arrive.

"Good evening, mom"

"Ah sweethear come here." -she picks you up and sits you on her lap as she hugs you from behind. "Your soaps are really pretty. Was it your idea to use the cookie molds?"

"I believe it was Lyann's"

"I see. But you still have to study and improve your magic, alright? I thought about it, and we could probably sell my armor to help gather the money."

"Your have an armor?"

"Yes, your father got it for me when we were adventuring together. It should be worth about 50 golds, maybe."

"Well, that will help a lot, but, listen, I had an idea..."

You explain to your mother and to Elli about changing her job from ranger to craftsmen to help with making the soaps. And if she can automate the process using magic, then there will be no problem using lye to make brand new soap insteaf of buying soap that is already prepared and improving it.

Elli seems to think about it for just a couple of seconds before nodding.

"That sounds like it would be much more useful around the house than being good with a bow." -she says with a smile

"Alright Eldric. Mommy will leave it to her smart boy, then" -she squeezes you in a hug as she enjoys cuddling you

Later that night, you and Elli play around on the bath, having fun with one of the new scented soaps.

"Ah, it smells like the grasslands." -she says with a smile as she enjoys its scent on her arms.

Sadly, there's no shampoo on this world, and it would hurt your hair to wash it with soap regularly. You use some oils, instead.

There's some pangs of conscience at letting Elli think she's bathing with a child. Smart, sure, but still a child in her eyes.

***
Want to tell her you won't bathe with her anymore?
***

The next day, after school, you go with Lyann and Elli to the temple and get Elli changed from a ranger to a craftsmen. It is a fairly quick procress. The priest recites a few prayers and announts her forehead with oil, and it is done.

Indeed, you can see that she's now a level 1 craftsmen.

Your mana crystal only has 16 mana on it, so you need to purchase one with a more meaningful amount from someone at the Adventurer's Guild. Luckily, it looks like it takes a very small amount of mana each time Elli crafts someting using her new class ability (4mp) so you don't need to go for twoo expensive a crystal.

You have 1 gold, 870 silvers and 30 copper coins in total. A mana crystal costs 1 copper coin per each MP on it.

The mana crystal looks like a bubble with a little bit of liquid inside. It sparkles and shines whenever you shake it.

Once you hand it over to Elli, you make your way home.

Elli takes the soap bars, the oils and herbs, and tries to make them into luxury soaps... but it doesn't work.

"That may be too much at the same time. Try with just a few bars, fist" -you volunteer helpfully

Elli nods and tries with 5 bars at the same time. She wiggles her ears as she strains herself, but you can see that something is indeed happening!

The soap bars disappear together with some of the oils and herbs and instead some egg-shaped luxury soaps are left on the table.

"Oh, that's really handy." -says Lyann as she looks at the new soaps. "I think they're more soild than what we had been making."

"I guess, but I was going for star shapes."

"No, this is good. We can still make shaped soaps manually if we want to. We can sell those as a super luxury set." -you adventure firmly

4 mana = 5 soap bars. Each luxury soap is worth 6 silvers, so basically we take 1 silver and 50 coppers and make it into 30 silvers. So its a 1-to-30 profit, roughly. We bought 2 golds worth of soap so thats 30 gold from making them all into luxury soap bars... well, a liiittle but less counting the ones we are keeping for ourselves, and maybe a liiiittle bit more if we go with the super luxury set idea.

By the time the mana has run out, Elli has made 500 luxury soap bars, but she's sitting on a chair while Lyann waves a towel in front of her to give her air.

She looks completely exhausted and borderline unconscious.

"Well, it works, but I think she'll pop a vein if we try to make her transform all the crates left outside." -Lyann is gently fanning Elli while the elf girl just rests, completely exhausted.

"That's alright, at this speed, it should take us some six or seven months to make them all into scented soaps, but that's fine. Elli...?"

"Yes, young master?" -she says softly

"Do you think you could do ONE more thing for us, please?" -you ask gently while caressing her delicate looking right ear.

"Ah... uhmm..." -she looks as if she started to melt when you caress her ears- "...alright..."

You have her make you a set of wooden chess pieces. As it turns out, she has to make each piece individually, and she's thoroughly exhausted by the time that is done with.

She made a classical 16-pieces set, and a spare knight, rook and queen for each side to promote, plus the chessboard itself.

That means it costs 92 mana/silvers to make a set. You need to sell it for more than that to make a profit.

Elli is now unconscious over the table.

"That was too much." -Lyann covers her with a blanket.

Something with water, like christening a person, while in the bath? thinking about the future here, when we are older and want to drag her to the bath with us

I dont know, I think this has potential for cute and sligthly lewd and/or fun situations

With Lyann's help, carry Elli to her bed and tuck her in.
Then package up the soaps for sale.

Finally, do some magic studying with Lyann; we still have classes to attend, and while we're more experienced, that doesn't mean we're actually smart.

You surprise Lyann as you actually manage to carry Elli to her bed and make her comfortable.

Mom is a professor at the university, so she would be better able to find buyers (hopefully she won't come across as That Guy who brings his daughter's Girl Scout Cookies to work and pressures everyone to buy them).
Also Lyann will be better able to sell the soap, so we should let her sell it (since she can negate any 30% discount skill that traders would try on us).

You make sure that Elli is comfortable in her bed, then let her rest as you step outside with Lyann.

After a while, she's just sitting on the grass as she watches you practice. You keep trying to mix fire into other spells...

"Eldric, uhmm... I haven't asked you. Why do you want to buy me?"

* I want you to be mine so you can come live with us and not have to worry about being sold to some ugly guy when you become 15

btw i just realized, since we cant change social classes, if she becomes a villager, she will gain some skills, her attributes per level will change, and she will lose access to some slave-only jobs. Just throwing that out there.

Could do a "We'll marry when I'm an adult!" thing to keep er as a slave for a few more years so we can explore those jobs if we want to, and later switch her to villager, I guess. *shrugs* Up to you of course. It may just be an "I want to pay my own market cost" thing with her as well. Of course that market cost is gonna go through the clouds later on

Nobles dont have craftsmen in their job tree, but yes I have been thinking about that very same thing too. I think it would be alright if you first build something like a small, primitive steam engine (manually of course, by assembling parts you get Elli/Lyann to craft for you using ore and magic)

no, not really. Heck, if we want to go the harem route at some point, that's probably the best/only way. Hard to get many wives, but anyone can have many slaves, I guess. Just throwing that out there

And yes we could do that, I guess

>>34792553
May not be a bad plan since remember we were going to level her as something else to avoid rising her price/wiz level anyway. Dancer wouldnt be bad, pretty much only way to raise her app and I think villagers dont get it in their job tree. Plus dancer and/or singer are back-line jobs so she would be much safer, tho I guess we could go Mamluk if we mess around by powerleveling her at first

***

You finally relax, and try to think of a way to use steam through magic, before finally deciding that you could just as well try to use fire and water, then let it clash to become a blinding cloud of hot steam, rather than a third, fuzzy greek-chinese-pseudo element. It's just hard for an engineer to believe in the water-wind-earth-wood-fire alchemical theory, after all.

...and it totally works, too! you manage to force together water and fire to produce a high pressure steam blast in front of you.

"Eldric, that's amazing!" -your redheaded friend is doubly determined now to make it work for her as well.

She, however, doesn't has the mental blockage to keep her fom "summoning steam"

"It's not that hard. Here, stand with your feet at shoulder distance, and reach out with your hand." -you doubt any of that really will help, but whatever placebo effect it has cannot hurt

1/2
>>
So I'm thinking we level up Lyann in 10 levels of Dancer (to increase her App and 1h Weap skill), then we have her level up in the Mamluk -> Freemen -> Fedaykin tree.
If we want, we could have her also get 10 levels of Thief so she can get some better weapon skills and get the Steal skill.

"Alright..." -she stands like you tell her to, and aimd at the practice targets with her open hand

"No, no, place this hand on your hip..."

"Are you messing with me?"

"Of course no, try it!"

Totally messing with her, but she blushes so lovingly while making a silly pose and trying to cast steam out from her fingertips.

She concentrates for a full ten minutes or so, and finally manages to shoot a dense ball of steam!

"You did it, see!?"

"But... you shoot a stream, right?"

"And you shot a ball, it doesn't really matter. Let's get used to it before we try to shape it."

"Alright" -she takes a deep breath and resumes position, feet at shoulder distance, hand on her hip, left hand up, and shoots another and another steam ball at the target.

"Say, shouldnt we use a chant for this?" -she asks

"I... don't know"

"Yes, you should. Do you know how rare it is that you are doing it without chanting?" -your mom has been watching you practice for a while now without either of you notice.

"Ah, madam!" -Lyann cries out in surprise and her steam ball hits and cooks a flower pot- "Eeep! I'm sorry1"

"It's alright. C'mon, you are both covered in sweat." -she takes you both to the bath.

~a few minutes later

"Mom, how did it go with the chess set?" -you ask her as she scrubs the sweat off you, kneeling outside the tub while you and Lyann share it.

"Ah, they loved it. I'm sorry honey, but you didin't told me how much to sell it for, so I said 2 gold pieces. Is that alright?"

Courtesan
The modern use of the term for a prostitute, concubine or mistress of a man of rank[2] belies a much more complex heritage.
In feudal society, the court was the centre of government as well as the residence of the monarch, and social and political life were often completely mixed together. Prior to the Renaissance, courtesans served to convey information untrusted to servants to visiting dignitaries. In Renaissance Europe, courtiers played an extremely important role in upper-class society. As it was customary during this time for royal couples to lead separate lives—commonly marrying simply to preserve bloodlines, fortunes or social status and to secure political alliances—men and women would often seek gratification and companionship from people living at court. In fact, the verb to court originally meant "to be or reside at court", and later came to mean "to behave as a courtier" and then "to pay amorous attention to somebody".[3] The most intimate companion of a ruler was called the favourite.

Would it make you feel better if I changed the name from courtesan to Favourite?

Lyann is immensely conflicted, but your mom acts so natural about this that she doen't fight it as she washes and grooms her. The sensation of having a mom, a family, way, way more powerful and important to her than any shame at having a 8yrs old boy looking at her in the bath.

Either the next school year when the students are allowed to go down to Level 3, or if we get some better equipment for her then we'll take her down sooner.
If she's going to be a Dancer, I don't think we need much more equipment for her, and her debuffs should work well enough on the level 1 monsters on the first floor so we can level her at a more careful pace.

seems to be the most popular

you could buy a light copper armor for 300s, or an iron one for 600s. Weapons are the same. Having said that, I personally feel that keeping her as Dancer in the back its safest. yeah

Anyway**

Grummir, Miiyau and you step down into the 8th floor, having had enough of the oozes in the 8th floor.

"They're just so slimmy, nya!"

"I'm more bothered by the crappy "Slime Jelly" they keep dropping. I would have liked a slime card, tho" -adds Grummir

"What does the slime card do?"

"It adds acid damyage to your weapons, nya! it's a pretty expensive card, nya!"

"Well, I guess we could keep camping the Jelly King..."

"Please not, nya! my hair is all sticky nyow, and it smells like lemyon, nya!"

"Fine, let's go down, then."

The 9th floor is mostly lvl 9 mimics and lvl 9 zenites. It feels strangely familiar, remembering how the lvl 1 zenites at the school's dungeon was the first dungeon monster you ever fought.

Problem with these buggers is, they usually have money worth fighting them for, so you still walk into them tho you know they're a bloody mimic."

"It's okay, nya! you have us, so we can cast spells at it from afar, nya!"

"Fine."

Indeed, it is not even 50" into the 9th floor, when just past the first room, you see a "treasure chest" resting at the end of a hallway, open, with plenty of copper coins spilling off from it's open lid.

"Somyahow, I feel insulted, nya!"

The price is based on the class the slave holds that is currently open, yes? So wouldn't it be better to grind her Wizard levels to increase the price, swap her job to something really low level to instantly bomb it, buy her, and then swap her back to Wizard?
>>
>>34794246
>Yeah, let's not do it yet.
But being a support caster in the back, and considering that the only monsters on the first floor of the school dungeon are those floating gloves, she won't be in much danger as long as she's with us, with our staff, sword, and chainmail.

The problem is that those owners can't read her level until she swaps jobs, yeah? They know she's a wizard, but if they're not present during the swap, or if we do it oursleves before we get her "checked out to see if the job matches the price" and all that, we could completely bomb her price in one swoop and get her at a steal.

But the whole reason they are paying for her education is to raise her level as a wizard. Im sure they would want to check that. Paying a little more to properly appraise their goods seems logical to me
>>
>>34794352
That makes no sense and assumes that the people selling her are complete retards.
Of course they would check not only her Job but also the Job's level before making the sale, and whoever is doing the selling (assuming it's not the guards but an actual slave trader) would have an appraisal done on Lyann. When the Job she has comes back as not matching the Job that's on her slave contract, there's going to be a lot of questions being asked.

You're really pushing the bounds of stupidity here.

As you go around the corner, you turn to the left. and keep looking around for monsters, keeping an eye behind you, since the zenites have the bad habit of being completely silent.

Soon enough, however, you spot a small swarm of lvl 9 Zenites together with a Nightmare Mimic lvl 9 inside a room, just stomping around like they own the place.

"Nightmare Mimic?" -you ask outloud after looking at it through your Ring of Knowledge

"I was wondering what that ring did, nya! it tells you what myanster you are looking at, nya?"

"That's handy, but more important, a nightmare monster is a hell of a lot tougher than a regular creep. It gives much, much better loot much more often, tho. Do you think we should jump it?" -Grummir is looking at the monster with greedy eyes

You erect a stone wall to separate the monsters from your group at the same time as Miiyau uses entangle on them. Both spells go off beautifully, and everyone is caught by the stonewall.

Two zenites resisted the entangle, however, somehow managing to avoid the tentacle-like vines, and floating over the walls towards your group.

Grummir moves to intercept the closest one.

She manages to recast it, and catches all three zenites, but misses the Nightmare Mimic, whom starts "hopping" towards the stone wall, and biting on it however it can, slowly cheweing it way through.

If monsters are mindless, then they'll probably be hurt by a wall with spikes. When we go lower, we'll need to go Turret Defense mode.

Literally DPS mages should be relatively plentiful. However, crowd control mages may not be. We can go up DPSing, but that'll have us in direct competition with people who have been doing this for longer than an average lifespan. If we go with our walls and upgrade them over time, we'll be one of the most wanted party members.

Can cards be safely unequipped from a weapon or armor? Or are cards permanent?
>>
"Uh? why, what's wrong with your staff?"

"It has no slots left. It is a family heirloom, same with the sword. They have no more space for abilities."

"Nya?" -Miiyau flicks her ears, curious

"What are you talking about? slots? I just know that you grab a weapon, and a card, and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't"

"That's right, nya! people often get angry about it because they think the smith lied to them, nya! but it only works somtimyas! O've seen Grummyar fail to enhance his own gear, nya!"

It looks like you are the only person that knows about the existence and importance of slots. On further questioning, you are sure of it.

People simply grab whatever and try to insert cards into it. From their point of view, it is totally random.

"Alright, so you are saying YOU CAN TELL when something can take cards, Eldric? Do you know how much money we can do with that!?"

* That's right
* Ah, no, no. Its just that it can fail and wipe the abilities it already has, right? I dont wanna risk it in my sword or staff

They are permanent. but if you fail to equip one, you lose all the cards already on a gear.

For example your sword has
[Man Eating Plant] + [kobold] HP Leech
[Succubi] + [Kobold] MP Leech
[Sunrock] + [Kobold] Lights weapon ablaze
[Ghost] + [Kobold] Dispel Magic
It has no slots left at all. Any attempt to insert a new card will empty all slots on it
>"Kobold card does nothing"
>This is what people actually believes
>yfw it makes any effect of the previous card x2 as strong

>>34797606
We're going to need to be careful with who finds out about this. The money isn't nearly as good compared to the people who might want to kidnap/silence me.

"Yes, and do you know how much trouble that'll get me into?

"Alright, so what about my hammer? can it take any cards?"

You hold the hammer and see that it is a steel hammer with 1 card already equipped (A wolf card for tripping foes with it when you hit a crit) and no space for more cards.

"No, sorry, it already has a wolf card, right? it can't take anything else." -you say after studying it through your ring.

"Nya!? that's amyazing, nya! he can really tell you used a wolf card on it, nya!"

"Uhmm... this info could be dangerous. But we really need to test this. Let's go to the market and buy the cheapest card there is and try it out."

* Alright, lets go
* We got some stuff with slots from the zenites. Its just gloves, tho... oh, this staff has 2 empty slots

"I'm not going to hit things with a wooden stick, tho. Miiyau?"

"It's just a hit-stick, nya! it's not a mage-type staff. We need a monk."

"Alright, so let's jam two cheap cards into it and sell it on auction at the guildhouse. Everyone okay with this plan?"

What about the floor boss?
Does anyone know the requirements to become a monk? Could we just punch level 1 Zenites?
>>

>Selling weapons filled with cheap cards
That could be pretty good. Everyone assumes that we're doing this by luck and wasting money on 1-card weapons, and don't really bother us.

The power balance is also kept fairly stable since the base weapons are still weak. People will get suspicious if we consistently use stronger cards, though, since noone would invest that much on luck.
>>
>>34798247
Oh yeah this. Can we kill the boss first?

Let's not.
Not at this time.
We're pretty much wiped.

You go with Grummir and Miiyau to the market. The place only has 2 cards at the time. An [Atroce Card] which has a small chance to give you +1 attacks per turn after a critical, and a [Scprpion Card] which increases damage vs plants by 20%.

(There are no kobold cards, since noone knows what they do, they are considered trash, and noone bothers picking them up.)

"Alright, these are... not great, but still, if we do manage to make both work, the staff will be worth a lot more than all of these three things together."

"What do you think, nya? will it work, nya?"

"Yes, I am sure it'll work."

"Alright, here I go, but if it's a bust, its coming out of your share, understood?" -Grimmir gets ready

"Sure, go ahead."

Both cards are successfully inserted into the bo staff

"...so, how myach is it worth now, nya?"

"Two trash cards... 500s each, so 1g between both of them. And the staff was 300s, so it was 1g 300s. It can sell for 7g now."

"That's nyat myach, nya!"

"That's not the point. The point is that I'm going to place a request at the auction house for cards."

"We need to do this bit by bit. We don't want people to get suspicious." -you try to calm him down

"Right, don't worry. We are just buying cards to use ourselves for now, and will sell enough equipment to pay for it."

"Alright, I guess."

A short trip to the Adventurer's Guild later, the staff is placed on auction. It is first appraised, and the skills on it are confirmed.

In theory, couldnt we go into a practice room and cast fireballs till we drop to find our MP?
>>
>>34798788
Sounds good.
>>
>>34798481
Tell Grummir and Miiyau to bring us Kobold Cards.
Tell them to ask their friends for them when they drop. They are to say that a wizard at the college wants to do some experiments with them.
Put in a request at the Auction House; they probably get requests for odd materials all the time here.

And fine, we'll do the boss tomorrow.
But having entire months and years pass when we should be grinding feels like we're missing out on a lot of XP and loot.

i have 21:40 right now and we just adjusted time a few days ago, if that helps. We start at my 13:00
>>
>>34798899
There are a few issue with the "cast fireballs until empty" method:

>Need to do it every time your max MP increases(everyday)
>Physically difficult to keep track of MP costs in real combat when you could be, yknow, focusing on fighting.
It's possible to do from a tactician standpoint, but if you're in the fray, having a HUD that keeps track of it for you is the only practical way to do it.
>>
>>34798938
Lets it my 5:44 Pacific Time so...
>>
>>34799012
At least we have an idea about our MP right now. Also, why dont we ask our mom about any spells that can do a HUD or something that can give us some form of perception on how much MP we have because magic
>>
>>34799122
heh, that sounds silly, but just the sort of stuff you could do somehow with divine magic, probably. Divinations, you know

I can remain for a few more hours tonight, but I'd like to ask for suggestions for the PDF

classes ideas? jobs ideas? skills?
>>
>>34799122
Because we don't want to worry our mom that we're going dungeon diving and we boosted her Int and Wis so she'll likely be able to see though our lies easily.
>>
Thanks for running!
And now, as it's 0355 I bid thee fair night.
>>
cmon guys noone has any ideas?
>>
>>34799512
beast tamer
can tame mobs of equal or lower level to your beast tamer level
(thoughts, sorry captcha was a pain)
>>
>>34799616(you)
as an add in depending on the monster level compared to yours and its damage (the less hp it has the easier it is to tame) the dc can change. also you still need to train the monster to follow your orders an build RP (relationship points) to improve the bonuses your pet and you receive
>>
>>34799512
Ask on friday am looking and need to think about it.
>>
>>34799616
sure, sounds good, but I already had that idea for a nomad job... ah, Beastlord

Maybe something like
Pet level less than or equal to (Beastlord lvl + charisma modifier)
Im a little worried to see things turn into pókemon, tho
As for how to tame... maybe something as simple as "roll 1d100+your beastlorf level + your charisma modifier and get equal to or more than the hp left on the monster"?
>>
>>34799822
will need to work on the wording, tho
