I am Maria of House Antioch, the house of Seekers. Right now I'm seeking nothing but freedom from the confusioon my new relationships have brought me. Therefore, I use the last way to freedom known to me, and run. Two steps inhale. Two steps exhale. The steady rhythm pushes me forward, through alley leading from the school and towards the inner sections of the park.

Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! The chorus of voices is quickly fought down as as my feet hit the gravel and I speed up. Faster, faster, faster. Run away from doubt and pain, run away from pain and fear. Towards salvation, towards relief, towards forgetting and release.

I sweep at the corner of my eye with one hand. No tears. Good. Just let your mind go free as your body takes over. Pa always said that those with idle bodies quickly developed troubled souls. Obviously, that means the more I move, the less troubled I'l l be, right? Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, feel the rhythm, embrace the beat.

There is nothing in the world but the green around me, the stone beneath me, the sky above me and the void within. Suddenly, I know. I know what to do next.

Rite: Floating Leaves on the Winter Winds. Let your mind become one with the air and sky. Let go of feeling your body. Pretend you're standing outside youself.

The world seems to grow indistinct as I let myself go, body working on its own while my thoughts float freely, unburdened by anything or anyone.

"--told you, we won't draw a crowd this way".

[] Walk closer

Curiousity killed the cat, yet ignorance devastes kingdoms. I'm not sure if that fits here, but it sounds good and makes me feel better, and that's important here, isn't it?

For a few moments I think about just sneaking closer, but really, wouldn't that be abuse of the gifts I've been granted? It might be early, the sun barely struggling to make his way over the horizon, but the park is open to everyone including me and them.

Only criminals have need of sneaking in public, and only criminals would immediately suspect something criminal in others.

"An impure mind thinks impure thoughts and sees impure deeds. A pure mind strives for the best, while an impure minds desires the worst". Still, it would be good to check on what is going on. Can't hurt, right?

I mean, if it were out of selfish curiousity I'd just let them mind their own business, but when it's for the protection of others I DEFINETELY have a duty to find out what is going on. That's it. Just my duty, nothing more.

These thoughts in mind I step walk casually toward the voices. Okay, not /completely/ casually, I notice, my stance changing to one suited for quickly escaping or fighting back should the need arise. Guess I'm getting a bit wound up still.

Rounding the corner, I just barely keep myself from squaking in surprise. Dammnit me, so much for your "professional attiude" and "expert technique". Shame on you and shame on everything you stand for.

Standing there, facing me, are the fighting instructor and some woman I'm unfamiliar with. Mistress has her long blade with tassles out, while the the other woman seems armed with nothing but an iron stick.

"And you promise not to go easy on me?" The unfamiliar woman cocks her head to the side, brunette ponytail swaying.

"Same goes to you".

Clean and overt, polite and refined. Pa would be so proud and even Eriad-- no! No thinking about her, now. This is something unrelated to her, and "No wound ever healed faster by opening it before its time".

I'm sure if I give her and me a bit space now it should be better afterwards and stuff. that's how they always said it worked at least, and really, I have nothing better to go on right now. It will sort itself out. Or I will, but not now.

Now its's time to give myself space to properly focus agai--- aaaaaaghgh, now I'm thinking about it again. Why can't I even control my own thoughts properly?! I shake myself, flicking my left wrist the way one-ear Jolynn taught me to do when trying to break a bad habit.

"Mistresses, I… ugha, that new one is scary!" The woman I don't know has turned towards me, iron staff raised an--

Takout angle. Targets the arms. Less-lethal vector. Vector optimised for quick riposte when dealing with blades. Stance appears trained and assured, facial expression is cooly agressive. No anger. Only reflex. Best taken out quickly, seems prepared to crush resistance effectively.

--oof, raised and ready, but not attacking yet.

"Mireille?" Teacher doesn't seem surprised. She really associates with dangerous people!

"Yes?" The woman speaks towards me, not taking off her eyes. Not even I'm that jumpy. Not… quite.

"She's is quite all right, please, don't scare her".

"She immediately took on the Mountain Lion Stance". Not an accusation, but she seems suspicious. Still, she drops her stick to the side and gives me a curt nod.

"Ah, please excuse her jumpiness. She's not used to being interrupted". Mistress is looking a bit abashed. Oh no, now I made her ashamed. Should I just have left? But no, no use crying ovr spilled milk.

"How did you end up finding us, young one?" Hey, I'm not THAT young?!

"Haha, I just, you know, heard you. I mean, I heard you say something about hacking to bits again, and that made me come here. If… if you don't mind I'll stay. Uh, maybe I mean, if it's not a problem? I thought soemone might be in danger, but if it's just mistress giving private lessons then it should be okay, right? No, no, I mean it would certainly be okay, sorry".

Mistress looks towards the strange woman who just shrugs, then fixates her gaze on me. Yes, I know that sounded really stupid, no need to tell me!!

"Well, I do suppose we were not being too inconspicious, eh?" Mistress shrugs, before waving at me to come closer to the the clearing they're standing in.

"You asked whether you could stay, yes? Of course. Oh, why were you out now, though?"

"Exercise, mistress. My exercise and my morning rites". That makes the other woman -Mireille - inhale sharply before she catches herself. Guard herself, huh. Others don't call it that. Bet that's something you really didn't expect, ha!

Nooo, don't flip your nose at her. She still has an iron cudgel in her hands. You don't disrespect people like that. I guess an armded society really is a well-behaved society, huh.

"Sit over there". Mistress says, urging me to sit on a stone bench standing on one corner.

"Ah, before we begin. Mireille isn't my student. In fact, she's not even a witch, so remembe that". I can feel my eyes widen slightly. How could she even stand up to mistress, then?!

"She is", Mistress continues, "a so-called Witch Breaker".

Mireille bows in mock politelness.

Let it go. She's older than you, and, as we determined, iron cudgel. Pipe. Staff. Whatever. Mistress said an interesting word there. "Witch Breaker", huh. Never thought anything could break us, but then what do I know?

Hmm. Yes, mistress probably wouldn't mind if I asked, right? I mean, she's a teacher and all that, and very pretty besides. I'm sure she'd not mind.

"Mistress, I…"

"Yes, young one?" Come on. Come ooooonnnnnnnnn!!!

"It's 'MARIA', Mistress". Whoops, that was stupid. Really stupid. All that trouble for nothing because I couldn't hold my tongue. I guess that's what happens when I get wound up. Mistress just smiles.

"I am Viviane of House Nefesh, Maria. Mistress of blah blah, but that's not important. Glad to meet you". She bows, not unlike the manner of my city. Hey, did you just ignore that… OR DID YOU SIMPLY NOT GET THAT?! That grin reminds me of Sora a bit. Hey, shouldn't you be more grown up than that? If you can't manage it, what chance do we have?

A cough from behind us, making Mistress Vivianne straighten.

"Didn't you want to explain something?"

"Oh right, oh right! Hum, why don't you?"

"She's your student, you do it".

"Alright. To put it simple, Mireille has trained her mind and body to the point magic only touches her when she allows it. Do you know any spells to attack with, yet?"

I shake my head. Wait, I had that one thing from the library that felt like one, but it's back with my skirt and I'd rather have someone train with me first before attempting to cast THAT particulart thing again.

"For shame, maybe I sh-- you have Futuresense, don't you?" She turns to her friend, who scowls.

"Yes, you KNOW I can negate it. You also know how much I dislike it".

"Then I'd rather watch. If that… if that is okay?"

"Much better". Hey, don't be so dismissive now Mireille! Though she's probably right, I should stay put and let them do their thing. Who knows maybe I'll even learn something.

Mistress Vivianne throws me a questioning look and then steps back, raising hear blade in a strange way, one hand gripping the handle and the other lying against the length of it.

"Feel the judgement of a thousand cuts!"

With that, she quickly draws one hand up the length of the blade as it bursts alight in green fire. Huh, it seems like all the magic came from inside the blade. Or maybe she just did whatever she did quickly enough to look like that. Aren't spells supposed to last longer?

Mistress gives the blade a few swings, the burning steel making strange -and really exciting!- wooshing noises as it travels through the air, around and around, tracing burning circles through the air.

She just HAS to show me how that works sometime. Though honestly, swords have never been something I'm good at. I mean, Pa let me carry one, but somehow spears just always worked better for me and after a while I began to find excuses to leave the rapier at home and walking around with my favourite glaive almost all the time. So let's hope it works with spears too!

/tg/, please don't do that thing you always do where you get super focused on one notable aspect of a character and completely focus on it until the character becomes a flanderized version of herself.

Hell, this is a fucking martial spell, there shouldn't be any need to ignore learning it.
>>

Stances is just as much a part of it, its not like we just stand around, its just watching one thing instead of the other, and Maria has a better chance of figuring something out about stances, than about magic.

True.

I'm probably just being paranoid because of all the constant maria stronk/maximum overguard" and other such talks and I'm really worried about another character I like becoming a horrible caricature.

I really hope there's attempt to get Maria more confident, instead of people latching on to the crippling self-esteem as a defining aspect of her.
>>

Sword stances aren't that helpful to someone who has a pole-arm focus.
>>
>>34802311
Maria already knows stances and this is outside the kind of fighting she does(different weapon), it's better she focus on how spellcasting works in tandem in fighting rather than the stance or the spell.

I would like Maria to focus on enhancements with Body and Force Rotes.

That's what I assume too.

Like I said, I'm just being paranoid.

People latch onto a character trait because they think it's cute or whatever, and it just becomes horribly exaggerated and kills character development.

> okay, closing and writing
>>
>>34802570
Yeah I know what you mean.
I would hate to see her loose her airheadedness during relaxed situations or when she's flustered.
But I would be annoyed if it started showing up during tense moments or when she would really be focused.
Especially because it creates such a nice contrast with her training, having the two cross over would damage the mood.
>>
>>34802646
>>34802570
So far people seem to like both I think? I hope it works out. What happened in Rena was awful.
>>
>>34802646
I just thought I'd mention it now since I've seen things that could be considered warning signs and this quest has some reasonable players and QM that would probably pay attention.

I just don't want another situation where people go "She shouldn't change, anon, character flaws are more fun!" and completely ignore the fact that if a character flaw is never addressed as a real problem or pressured to change than it may as well just be a worthless moe trait like having comically terrible cooking. Or even a Mary Sue trait.
>>
>>34802755
I agree that the self esteem should be worked on and doing so make could make for some great moments and character development with Eri.
But I see the airheadedness as a really important part of Maria's dynamic as a character along side her more focused state. Cutting down on one or mixing them together would really weaken the character in my eyes.
>>
The confidence thing seems easier to work on anyway. Maria can stand up for herself if you push her, she just usually doesn't.
>>
>>34802835
I wouldn't call that a character flaw anyway, it's more like her natural state. She's fine in that sense as long as it doesn't get exaggerated down the line.

But that's more on Hex than us.
>>
>>34802872
Exactly removing one of them or exaggerating them both would start to make her much more two dimensional. Hex has done really well so far with Maria's characterization and I hope he can keep it up.
>>
How does the magic system work again? In what thread/ask was it explained?

it's been too long since it was last relevant.
>>
>>34803002
He's explaining it one by one. Basically you need Will and Authority, one of which everyone has and powers Martial abilities as well. You speak a spell and roll for concentration and stuff happens. It's pretty straightforward.
>>
>>34803002
Its basically. There are three Spheres.
Body, Sight and Force. Spells are called "Rotes", of which most witches have only a very limited amount (10 in the "main" Sphere, five in the others). Rotes can be upgraded, and its pretty important to do so. I think the Rote level went up to 100.

The spellcasting functions basically like this: >>34803080
>>
>>34802872
What I would really like to see is rather then Maria losing her self-consciousness shift from its currently negative state into a more positive one.
Along side Eri going from locking herself away from everyone into having someone (like Maria or the other girls) who she can open up to in a private moment while preserving her desire to stay quite private.
It would be good to have these flaws develop into something more positive while retaining their personalities changed by removing them.
I think that has a lot to do with why many people try to prevent these changes because of a fear that it would change the character that they love into something different rather than improving whats already there.
>>
>>34803101
It was mostly the sphere and rotes thing I was looking for, thanks.
>>
>>34803134
Yeah, most people seem to think fixing a trait like that means changing them into someone else.
>>
>>34802435
I think she might do better getting Sense Rotes, her caste and house apparently take a lot of search and rescue type stuff where Sense would be more useful

Let me find her possible class list, I think it was on Hex's Askfm
>>
>>34803253
Hence why it's so often pushed against leading to the characters devolving into caricature because they are blocked from developing.
>>
>>34803278
I think more emphasis on search over rescue isn't entirely necessary, though.

Sense rotes just sound kind of boring to me, especially since we already have a very observant, analytical character skilled in regular tracking and inquisition. It just seems like a case of over specialization. That spell is basically something Maria has already learned to do naturally.

Honestly, I sort of think this about our martial skills, and would like to pick Force as our main sphere over Body, since there's apparently a lot we can do with just our guard training and using Will, and branching out into the stuff that is truly only capable with magic would be best, but I don't expect much support for this.
>>
>>34803419
>>Redouble focus on the fight. Nothing else matters. Nothing else exists.

This sounds like a Rite activation, honestly. I wouldn't be surprised if Maria had an observation one.
>>
>>34803692
Marias natural observational skill doesn't render Sight Rotes useless, obviously they are way better than regular senses, not to mention can sense things you normally can't, like the future or thoughts.
Not using Sight and Body would be failing to capitalize on Marias talents and inclinations. She is a very "physical" person and loves personal improvement, using magic to improve herself even further seems exactly her kind of thing.
>>
>>34803692
We already took Sensing and martial focuses. If you want to spend our spellcastin' time learning force rotes, fine.

Especially since a lot of the cool stuff takes more than one discipline anyway.
>>

>>34803767
Learning Force/Body and Force/Sensing rotes sounds way more interesting than learning pure Force rotes.
>>
>>34803750
I never said that, what I'm saying is that with our skills, we don't need nearly as many sight and body rotes as someone else, so there's no need to pick them as main spheres. So focusing on the area that she can't cover with her own abilities works better for utilizing her strengths, while covering her weakness.

Cut out the Sight and Body rotes Maria doesn't need because of her natural abilites, grab the rotes in those Spheres that she can't do or would augment her abilities, and focus on the sphere that would best cover any potential weaknesses.
>>
>>34803814
Covering weaknesses? Fuck that philosophy. That's what party members are for, this isn't a solo act.

Eri will be learning plenty of Force rotes.
>>
>>34803788
Fess up, there are fives everywhere else. What are the fourth and fifth spheres?
>>
>>34803843

>>
>>34803814
There are more then enough Body and Sight rotes that do things Maria can't do. Evening out your weaknesses is what secondary Rotes are there for, you don't specialize in something that isn't within your existing talents, thata the path to mediocrity.
>>
>>34803814
Don;t all of the rotes just enhance what you can already do? Like the super basic Body rote we learn is really useful. Don;t forget as well that we don't need to be a jack of all trades the other girls in the group can cover our weaknesses while we cover theirs. Take Eva for example she can help make things for us.
>>
>>34803843

>>
>>34803939
Tea is one hell of a drug.
>>
>>34803839
>>34803863
Look, all I'm trying to say is that Force is going to be where the magic that has the biggest umph and utility will be. All spheres enhance existing talents, anyway so it doesn't really matter if we pick something that doesn't immediately scream "Maria's current skill set." Stuff like Abberation Barrier and that blade spell our instructor just did sounds more useful to me than our other spells and it's obviously Force sphere.

I just personally see more use in using Force to create powerful tools to utilize with our fighting style more useful than just enhancing our body and senses. Magic weapons and armor and such.
>>
How did that roll go? I can't tell whether we did well or not from the text.
>>
>>34803863
Really evening out our weaknesses is what the rest of the group is for. Spreading our self out will just cause us to cross over the other girls areas. When we could be perfecting the places we're strong in to better help the group function. As far as I can tell nobody has the same niche as Maria not specializing will just limit the group as a whole.
>>
>>34803980
The thing is Eva and Eriadne will most likely be better than us at most of these things. These character's were created to compliment Maria at character creation remember. I'm not saying that learning some force stuff is bad but we should be doing it with the idea of using to improve our Body and Sight skills.
>>
>>34803996
Maria crosses over with Sora quite a bit, and Eri to less of an extent. A bit with Eva and Helena too.

Maria is basically already the all-rounder of the group, not just for skill set, but because the group basically already covers anything Maria could do besides I guess lead or something.
>>
>>34804099
Sora seems tankier with us more focused on doing specialist damage. Maybe a Dragonblood or Witch Hunter could add quick hard-hitting power.
>>
>>34804127
What makes you think Sora is tankier? She always seemed more on the faster swashbuckler side, with rapier and dagger proficiency, to me and doesn't have heavier armor proficiency like Maria does. If anything, Maria is the tank.

Eva is also proficient in combat, polearms just like Maria. Eri is too, to a lesser extent.

As a matter of fact, everyone is pretty rounded.
>>
>>34804099
Not really if I put it in 4e terms Sora is more of a Striker like a rogue someone who is kind of sneaky and can do a lot of damage. Maria is a Defender even her Caste Sirus reflects that. She's good at staying observant and moving in to protect the other members of the group from danger when needed. Because of this she is also the one most likely to plan any combat or tactical situations because she's been trained for this stuff. Hell pole-arms are a very defensive weapon compared to the light blade that Sora favors.
>>
>>34804202
>As a matter of fact, everyone is pretty rounded.
Except Helena who seems to have, like, zero combat capabilities.
>>
>>34804202
From what I can tell Eva is more support oriented with her using her golem and making artifacts to help the group. Eri seems to more focused toward utility magic and knowledge. Helena is a healer. While the twins seem like they would be good at blasting magic with their dual casting skill we'll have to wait until more of theirs are revealed.
>>
> gotta extend again, sorry, guess we'll wrap up in an hour/four updates, whatever happens first
> thanks for your support so far!
>>
>>34804289
It is kind of heartening to see you fight against your procrastination so hard.
>>
>>34804209
What I'm getting from that is a need to focus on Sight spells for aiding in tactical info, defensive force/body spells for protecting party members and ourselves, maybe also some force spells for breaking enemy defenses or terrain control.

Anyway, now that I think about it though, with the size of our group and the sheer inevitability of overlap I don't think it really matters what we do to a certain extent.
>>
>>34804289
You're doing great.
>>
>>34804322
Exactly
>>34804265

>>
The first thing Eri went and learned was a clerical shield spell. Support as fuck.
>>
It's kind of hilarious how there is more content, more votes but less discussion.
>>
>>34804322
Yeah, I think it's important to treat Maria like she's part of this group and not by herself. Everything so far has pointed against this (Making cells and hexes ask.fm) On the topic of group size I really see the twins operating as a single entity because that seems to be their strength. So we're looking at:
Maria as a defender protecting the rest of the group and organizing them in tactical situations.
Eri for crowd control and utility/active support.
Sora as a close combat striker with maybe stealth elements.
Eva as more passive support through her artifacts and enhancing the group along with maybe area control using her golem.
Helena as group medic.
The twins as kind of brute force high power magic.
>>
>PS: I’m quite impressed with myself. Doing that fancy “report style” thing better every day. You’re really shaping up to be a true intellectual, me. Really moving up in the world, don’t you think?
Maria's dad is cute. Is that where Maria got her cute from?
>>
>>34804482
Discussion usually came after like hours of wait, I think this is much preferable
>>
>>34804483
On more open terms I see Eva and Eri having the most broad knowledge of magic and other topics. Maria functions well at organizing and directing the rest of the group effectively. The twins having the highest pure magical output. We haven't really learnt enough about Helena's and Sora's skills for me to really place them yet though.
>>
>>34804483
Eri, Maria, and Eva's roles, roles have significant crossover.

Sora and Maria too, since Maria is already heroic tier at stealth.

Helena and the twins seem to be the only true specialists, and even then I expect the other party members to at least know a couple of healing and beam spam spells.

These girls really seem to less complement each other in terms of specialty and roles and more that the number of them guarantees enough diversity and overlap for any role to be left out.

Now, the question is whether he actually did follow the legal method or not. When Maria's... training kicks in, it seems to interrupt her regular through process completely. Though I can see a merit in that.
>>
>>34806010
We're bored
>>
>>34806010
Yeah especially since he was hoping Maria stop like every time he went and saw her.

>>34806016
Well it has to. If it didn't what would be the point of getting the training in the first place.
>>
I think what's more disturbing is the possibility that Hex is writing that shit from experience.
>>34806010
>I really don't know why people still believe in a theory that hinges entirely on Maria's Pa being a horrible human being.
I think the term is grimdidding.
>>34806016
>Though I can see a merit in that.
Yea, she'd probably freak easier if it weren't there or at least have gotten herself killed already.
>>
>>34806034
>Well it has to. If it didn't what would be the point of getting the training in the first place.

True dat. Still creeps me out a bit though how it cuts her usual train of thought instead of, I don't know, reinforcing it.
>>
>>34806050
>how it cuts her usual train of thought instead of, I don't know, reinforcing it.
That would turn her into even MORE of a spaz. You don't want a spaz in a danger zone.
>>
>>34806050
It would be creepier if it reinforced it, because that WOULD be altering her personality.
>>
>>34806016
>When Maria's... training kicks in, it seems to interrupt her regular through process completely.
I wonder if that will ever stop, like will it ever just become Maria knowing these things instead of the training telling them to her
>>
Do you think Maria's training has anything to do with that ignoring morality ability she got while sparring?

There's a scary thought for you. The training is surpassing its supposed limits and learning to kill.
>>
>>34806050
Well it is really creepy but you're forgetting that morality in this world is very different to ours.
You have to remember that Maria was the one who wanted to do this and chose to continue at every opportunity to quit and it's pretty clear she doesn't regret it.
>>
>>34806072
>I wonder if that will ever stop, like will it ever just become Maria knowing these things instead of the training telling them to her
That is one thing we could ask Miereille once she opens up a bit.
>>
>>34806089
It's likely an evolution of it that usually isn't supposed to be there.
>>
>>34806065
I guess, yeah.

>>34806068
Oh geez! That wouldn't be good at all.

>>34806072
It would add normalcy, I guess, but at the same time reduce the coolness factor. I like how how her focused state is described.
>>
>>34806089
Well it said it could be control so I assume its not part of the deep training and just part of Maria's instincts.

>>34806072
But it is just Maria already knowing these things. The splits in her thoughts is just her reaction time being so fast.
>>
>>34806089
thats basic instinctive on/off dehumanizing behavioral training, you get it with most forms of intense combat training, its nothing spectacular
>>
>>34806093
But Anon, Maria is mai precious and nothing bad should ever happen to her!

I do get that the moral rules are different but stiiill!
>>
>>34806134
But it's not bad at all. She wanted to do it. She did it and she doesn't regret it at all. At what part did something bad happen?
>>
>>34806093
>Well it is really creepy but you're forgetting that morality in this world is very different to ours.
You can say that again. Some places sound fascist as fuck.
>>
>>34806146
The part where she was unconscious and didn't feel a thing for the vast majority of the training? That's bad. Not feeling things is the worst.
>>
>>34806156
Again it's just part of the training that she could have quit at anytime.
>>
>>34806167
If by any time you mean the brief periods of lucidity, yes.
>>
>>34806146
Anon pls, don't try to argue against my illogic (is that even a word?).

Technically it's okay to have Maria go through deep training like that but I'd still - and I dislike using this argument - argue that she's just a child and shouldn't have to (or get to) make decisions regarding things like that.

Though, if it hurt and she didn't want to, I'm pretty sure her Pa would've stopped.

Still makes me a bit uncomfortable, you know? Even if it is kinda cool.
>>
>>34806156
I'm this guy >>34806194
So I'm kind-of not liking the training she went through.

That said, inducing the described state of lucidity might be just part of the training. It's a neccessary evil of sorts without being that bad in the end, maybe? That's what I'm hoping for anyway.
>>
>>34806188
And she was happy to get back to it during them.

>>34806194
Well it is uncomfortable because we don't hold children to the same level of responsibility. But this world is very different don;t forget that Maria has almost died a number of times and has had to fight for her life as well.
>>
>>34806222
>Maria has almost died a number of times

Nooo! Don't remind meee!
>>
>>34806257
She's also infiltrated violent gangs to work as an undercover agent.
This train though it seems unpleasant has undeniable saved Maria's life on many occasions.
>>
I want to play as whatever Mireille is. What's her class, ATOW?
>>
>>34806284
>I want to play as whatever Mireille is. What's her class, ATOW?
Meditant Psywar, I think?
>>
>>34806281
Anon nooo whyyy
>>
Shadowruns aside, Maria's preference to polearms perked me up.

Bayonet-staff is even more plausible now. Just go to comission one.

Also umbrella-lance.
>>
>>34806194
>>34806188
The forbidden techniques would have wiped her personality ompletely, leaving her a killing machine.

What her father gave her is a tool to keep a scatterbrained hyperactive girl the ability to survive combat against murderers, cutthroats, and thieves, ~at her request~ that she can freely ignore and does nothing more than assist her in protecting herself and others (don't forget the hostage protection bit that was in the training clip). Those brief moments of lucidity were still times she could have said no, could have ended the training. Maria chose not to because that tool helps make her a better guard and a better protector of others.

Her dad was proud because she wished to follow in his footsteps in spite of the hardship and she demonstrated determination in the face of pain and difficulty, and that would make any father proud. Also she was of legal age to take the training, it's not like he forced it upon her or id something illicit.

It really isn't that much different than the traditional training undertaken by families of acrobats and martial artists, in my opinion. discipline can be a good thing, and her father didn't even try to take it to far.
>>
>>34806304
In fact it has probably saved the lives of others as well. It give her the ability to quickly identify how much of a threat a target it along with how to quickly subdue them in a non lethal way. If police in our world had similar training there would be much fewer cases of police having to resort to lethal methods to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
>>
>>34806334
>Bayonet-staff
>umbrella-lance
Why can't she just use a spear or a glaive. Fucking chuuni shit.
>>
[X] Just stay seated. It's their matter.
The urge to skip up to them either to help or to ask a thousand questions running through my mind is almost impossible to fight down, but I stay put and instead observe what is to come.

"Not… OUCH… not bad". Mistress Vivianne hops from one leg to the other, holding her right wrist with her left hand. If she didn't seem like she was fighting really hard to keep down tears behind the bullwark of a frozen grin it would look downright funny.

Actually, it DOES look kinda funn-- WILL OF STEEL. WILL OF STEEL. MY MIND IS A FORTRESS, BUILT OF IMMOVABLE ROCK, MY HEART IS ARMOURED IN DIAMOND. MY WILL SHALL BE STEEL MY WILL SHALL BE STEEL MY WILL SHALL BE STEEL. I chant silently to myself, looking to the floor until the urge to laugh pass. I wish I had reflexes for this kind of thing. Well, this works too.

They really didn't kid around when fighting each other, huh? Somehow that seems silly yet admirable. Having this kind of equal in someone else.

"Maria!"

A voice I really didn't expect to hear right now.

Eriadne.

[] Call out to her. That must be important.

Vote Closed.

A Tale Of Witches chapter fifteen has now concluded, thanks to all who stayed with us, and apologies for the sloppiness that no doubt snuck in during the process.

Our tale shall continue tonight, ideally around 1900 UTC. Please wait warmly, good night/morning, and thank you again.

Any questions you might have are best asked either now or on the Ask.fm.
>>
>>34806550
Why would we archive so early?
>>
>>34806554
Why don't we just make the spear magic, I don't think that's against any rules

>>34806550
Yes we are
>>
>>34806586
Hype, great fucking job Hex

See you tonight
>>
>>34806588
Because we're a little witch girl and there's nothing wrong with a weird weapon.
>>
>>34806587
it auto updates, so why wouldn't we archive so early, especially when Hex completely forgot to archive a thread before
>>
>>34806586
Good night Hex. You did a really great job with the thread.
>>
>>34806608
But I don't like it

I'll accept whatever wins the vote though

I think this thread deserves all the votes it can get.
>>
>>34806641
It's alright anon as long as you have fun.
>>
>>34806645
Only if they're the right votes.

All you super-rude people making a scene. Grr.
>>
>>34806663
No ones really gotten that rude. It's just possible to have a discussion without autosaging the thread before the second update when fasthex is here.
>>
>>34806681
I'm talking about the call out to Eriadne votes.
>>
>>34806696
Oh right. Well it's not like someone so ugly and useless really matters anyway.
>>
So what was this, 8 updates over the course of 8 hours?

I knew you could git fast Hex, now keep it up.
>>
>>34806586
Good job Hex! A nice, high quality thread at a good speed.
>>
>>34806586
Dazzling speed, Hex. And here I thought I could go to sleep and miss maybe one update. Good stuff, boyo! Pa would be proud.
>>
>>34806737
