I've always felt he has too much wank on his side (Unless squirrel girl is there or something anyway). Also for all the badassery he's apparently capable of you'd think he'd do more than keep a tiny country (then again I haven't read any comics in a while, so I have no idea what he's doing these days)

I suppose it isn't his fault that he's in a comic book that wants to stay somewhat parallel to the real world (aside from the super-powered dudes anyway), but in my mind that still hurts the character since that means he can really only do his thing in what-if situations

He built a cabal of self-aware robots that think like he does whose only purpose is to build weapons and establish power bases to take on mega-threats.

He tutors his god-daughter/familiar (Valeria Richards, Reed and Sue's daughter) in both Magic and Science.

He wages war on sueprnatural threats.

He kicked the crap out of Wakanda to steal a small stockpile of Vibranium enchanted by an ancient african tiger-god.

He's got a lab stocked with severed body parts of slain asgardians he's studying and re-animating to unlock the secrets of divine power and immortality.

He tinkers in his labs, building technology that borders on magic.

Dude's kinda busy to play politics with a bunch of double-digit-IQ-political appointees, or get into slugging matches with garishly costumes american clowns.
>>
>>34899026
Probably. A wakandan god admitted that in every possible future it can forsee, the only ones that don't end in the extinction of the human race are the ones in which Doom rules the planet.

So the choice is Extinction, or living in a world in which the smartest man to ever live designed everything, including society, to give you everything you need and afford you a moderate level of comfort.

I for one welcome our new Doom overlord
>>
DOCTOR DOOM Villain

Real Name: Victor von Duum.

Occupation: Monarch.

Identity: Publicly known.

Legal Status: King of Latveria, with full diplomatic immunity in the United States.

Other Aliases: None.

Place of Birth: Gypsy camp outside Haasenstadt (now Doomstadt), Latveria.

Marital Status: Single.

Known Relatives: Werner (father, deceased); Cynthia (mother, deceased).

Group Affiliation: None.

Base of Operations: Castle Doom, Doomstadt, Latveria.

Height: 6' 2"

Weight: 225 lbs.

Eyes: Brown

Hair: Brown.

Uniform: Silver-gray armor, green tunic, green hooded cloak, brown belt, silver-gray full-face mask. Strength Level: Without his armor, Doctor Doom possesses the normal strength of a man his age, height, and build who engages in regular exercise. Doom's armored suit contains an electrically powered skeleton which enables Doom to lift (press) approximately 2 tons.

Known Superhuman Powers: Doctor Doom is a dabbler in magic. His powers, like those of other Earth-born sorcerers, are derived from three sources: innate personal abilities like telepathy and astral projection, ambient magical energies, and extradimensional sources like the Vishanti and various demons. Doom has not yet mastered any exact discipline, but tends to draw upon extradimensional sources.

Other Abilities: Doctor Doom is one of Earth's greatest scientific geniuses. He has made unique contributions in the fields of robotics, quantum physics, genetic engineering, weapons technology, and many other areas. He has developed matter transmitters, a shrinking gas which utilizes Pym particles (see Ant-Man), which he discovered independently, and even a working time machine. He occasionally uses alchemy to enhance his scientific achievements. Because he fancies himself a "modern-day Renaissance Man," Doom has studied many other fields, including painting, sculpture, history, and the gentlemanly sport of fencing.
>>
Weapons: Doctor Doom utilizes many weapons, most of which he invented himself. He is never without a sidearm, which has been at varying times a laser, blaster, disintegrator, or nausea-inducing microwave pistol.

Paraphernalia: Doctor Doom's original battlesuit was designed to provide protection against conventional small arms fire while granting increased strength. His current battlesuit has increased these capabilities and added additional ones. As noted above, his battlesuit enables him to lift (press) around two tons under optimum conditions. Its armor is impervious to sustained small arms fire, and has been shown to resist being melted by the Human Torch's fire and enduring a pounding from the Thing (see Human Torch). The battlesuit is also environmentally sealed, having an internal air supply of about four hours. It has sensors that enable him to see in both the infrared and ultraviolet spectrums, read signs a mile distant, and hear minute sounds.

Offensively, the battlesuit is equipped with a pair of integral charged particle beams on its forearms which are capable of punching through two inch thick steel plates.

Recently, Doctor Doom has added a jet pack to his armor, enabling him to fly at speeds of about 100 mph.

History: Victor von Duum was born to gypsy parents in the small country of Latveria, which at the time was part of Yugoslavia. As a youth, he was forced to watch as his mother was burned at the stake by their superstitious neighbors for witchcraft. His father was later killed in front of his eyes by Yugoslavian soldiers during a random purge of suspected insurrectionists. These events gave young Victor the overwhelming desire to obtain the power so that none could hurt him. This later evolved into a desire for power for its own sake.
>>
To that end, Victor threw himself into his studies, learning any skill and obtaining any knowledge anyone would teach him or he could find in the public libraries. His studiousness, natural intelligence, and the innovations he achieved with what little resources he had came to the attention of the Yugoslavian leadership, who sponsored his education for their own ends.

Upon turning 18, Vic was sent to a university in the United States, where he was initially roomed with Reed Richards and Benjamin Grimm (see Mister Fantastic, Thing). Vic found a kindred intellect in Reed, but was disparaged by what he perceived as Ben's limited intelligence. At first, Reed and Vic would discuss their theories with each other, but Vic's own ego would not permit himself the possibility of his being wrong about anything, even when Reed and even Ben would find errors in his calculations. In anger over these perceived slights one day, he stormed out of their dorm room and effected a transfer to another university.

Eventually, Vic, now calling himself Doctor Doom as a pun on his last name, returned to his native Latveria to discover that its new leadership had been terrorizing the peasantry, playing on their superstitious fears of vampires, werewolves, and witches. Infuriated when his offer to meet with the Latverian leadership was rejected, Doom whipped the peasants into a fury, arming them with weapons he'd had smuggled in or invented himself, and marched on the capital city. Victor personally slew the leaders and set himself up as Latveria's new king, with the popular support of the peasants. He walked away from the battle practically unscathed, save for a cut on his right cheek which he vainly believes detracts from his looks.
>>
Since then, Doom has turned Latveria around. The tiny nation now enjoys one of the highest per capita incomes of the developed world, and only fails to be a major economic power due to its lack of size and population. Technology has found a home here like no other, and Doom's self-invented super-technology is such an obvious part of modern Latverian life that it actually attracts tourism. Latveria is also home to a growing motion picture and special effects studio; the old-world charm of rural Latveria coupled with the high technology base of the capital city of Doomstadt makes it a common site for filming movies, several of which have won awards for their special effects. Doom has built schools and universities, all the while motivating his people to excel wherever possible. While the nation is small, it is militarily secure due to automaton soldiers watching the border, and Doom enjoys a certain amount of impunity due to having his entire nation protected by the only functional anti-nuclear force field in the world.

Despite the good he's done for Latveria, Doom has his dark side. Upon learning on the news that his old college roommates and their friends had gained superhuman powers as the Fantastic Four, Doom began plotting their destruction (see Fantastic Four). He still holds a powerful grudge against Dr. Richards, and has plotted Reed's destruction several times.

Doom's first clash with the Fantastic Four came when he invited Dr. Richards to Latveria as part of a scientific conference he was hosting. In reality, the conference was an attempt to discredit Reed's claim of having invented a faster-than-light drive. When this failed, he had the four jailed on trumped-up charges; upon their escape he declared them outlaws in Latveria. Since then, his schemes to destroy Richards and the others of the Fantastic Four have been publicly declared as efforts to "bring them to justice."

They regularly fly nuclear-powered jet cars over international boundaries without filing flight plans with relevant authorities, often while transporting illegal, untested, and unregulated experiments, or exotic invasive organic material from other worlds. Only Richards' "MEdia Darling" status and contacts in the US State Department have prevented everyone from the UN, the nuclear Regulatory Commision, the FAA, and Interpol from hunting them down and jailing them in a deep, dark hole until the sun fizzles out.

Yea i have not read any of the comics what has this guy done too get the villain title because so far he just seems like a good guy with too much of a ego
>>
Doom's entire gimmick is having to be 2nd best at everything.

Science? 2nd only to Pym
Magic? 2nd only to Dr. Strange
Eldritch Knowledge? 2nd only to Thanos
Alien Knowledge? 2nd only to Nova
Vast Wealth? 2nd only to Stark
Athleticism and Martial Arts? 2nd only to Iron Fist

But damn it, you need to assemble a damn team if you want to take down DOOM.
>>
>>34900368
Its outright made obvious in the Ultimates comics.

While DOOM is a hero, with bad PR.
Richards is a world-ending villain with good PR.

While DOOM simply wants equal footing for his country Latveria to the rest of the world. (America won't let him due to butthurt.)

Richards is experimenting with a portal that attracted a swarm of planet-devouring aliens to earth. (His method to save planet Earth resulted in taking hostage multiple galaxies in a mutually-assured destruction between earth and the alien threat. Even so far as to destroy one galaxy potentially filled with life to prove he's not bluffing)

>>
>>34900429
Because Richards and family get to pretend to be 'heroes'. And they have the attention of american media, which gets rebroadcast all over the world. So their version of the story gets told, and not Doom's.

Grimm:>"Yeah, we were just flying along, minding our own business, carrying soem new doohickey to a conference in sweden. Then a bunch of flying robots appeared and siddled alongside us. Well, johnny went out to meet them, and they started shooting at us, so we destroyed them. Reed said they came from Castle Doom, so we kicked in the doors and trashed the machines Victor used to control his robots. But because he's the legal leader, we couldn't rough him up or depose him, so we left for he conference."

Doom:>"My sensors detected a dangerous radiation signature approaching sovereign Latverian airspace. Flight Control at Doomstadt international airport reported no incoming or bypassing flights on record, and the conform to known commercial or government designs. I deployes a wing of aerial defense droids to investigate. The vessel ignored radio warnings to divert or land. The drones detected a major heat signature launching from the vessel. They deployed appropriate countermeasures to deter missile or bombing attacks. They failed and were destroyed. After blowing up several million dollars in UN-Sanctioned military equipment, the pilots of the vessel landed in Doomstadt, caused several million more dollars in damage to my personal home, destroyed several priceless works of art, assaulted me and my security forces, destroyed some very delicate machinery used for national defense, then left after committing their terrorist actions. The US state department is still ignoring me, and I'm really getting tired of overlooking these blatant acts of war.

I'm gonna call utter bullshit on that one.

Luthor's main flaw is that he capitalizes a ton on his breakthroughs.

>I made an instant cure for cancer, but I'm going to tell the lab guys downstairs to make it a month-long therapy to rake in the megabucks.

>I made a cure for AIDS using cheap chemicals - but I will patent it, charge exhorbitant amounts for it and ship it very very rarely, to create an artificial demand.

>I just discovered unlimited safe energy using Kryptonite. But I will only use it on my mech in my fight versus Supes.

>>34897661
Because Doom quest

RIP Lucia von bardas ;.;
>>
>>34900819
No, Injustice was dogshit as a game and the plot seemed more out of Liefeld than anything.

Red Son Superman is treated with some measure of respect instead of it just being "tyrant Superman". He doesn't invade other countries, rather letting them join his Soviet Union that he runs competently, he doesn't try to manipulate anyone, he saves New York when Lex Luthor has the CIA drop a satellite on it(just to see if Superman would save it).

At the end, Superman comes to terms that humanity needs to be the one to take care of itself and fakes his own death saving the Earth and lives incognito while Lex Luthor combines his and Superman's philosophies.
>>
>>34900457

Unless you're Squirrel Girl.

Or arguably Deadpool
>>
>>34900857
Also, this here. This fucking here.

Someone check out All Star Superman where Lex makes a big deal out of how awesome he is for being able to compete with Superman without superpowers, and the one time he manages to make a Superman-elixer to give himself Kryptonian powers, he sees the world as Superman sees it and realizes how much time he's wasted on being a dick and trying to one-up Superman.

Guys like Lex Luthor and Vandal Savage could easily be the greatest of men, the idea that they aren't is what makes them the foils to the heroes.
>>
>>34900892
That's another hilarious flaw with DOOM.

There's a theory that... anything he ISN'T 2nd best at, he's bound to fail miserably.

Deadpool's is utter insanity and randomness that even Taskmaster can't predict.

Squirrelgirl is plot armor. Massive amount of it that she can stand next to an enraged hulk and not be swatted out to orbit.

Well, he kinda IS a supervillian too. But Richards is just as bad, if not worse. Even in 616.

Richards took a weapon of mass destruction and refused to turn it over to Pym (Who's tech it was based on, so he was claiming it was logical that he take it apart to see how it works/if it's dangerous) with 'We both know Pym, I know a lot more about Pym Particles than you do'.

I think part of it is that both of them have the exact same flaw. Pride. Both think they know better than everyone else and are smarter than everyone else and honestly? Neither really care what others think about it or if they have to stomp a few people to get thier way.

It's why Tony & Hank are two of the most moral of the various super scientists. Stark wrestles with the idea that he COULD make the world a better place...but he'd had to step on some fingers. Sometimes he slips into it but he's clearly TRYING to be a good person. Pym knows he's a fuckup when he gets in his Mad Science Zone and thus takes a lot of care when he's actually on his bloody meds to try and use his technology responsibly and carefully. He doesn't want to make Ultron again.

Doom and Richards? Neither really cares.

And this, Ladies and Gentlemen is what defines Doom as Evil.
He is almost quite literally Judeo-Christian Satan.

No free-will, no choice, no way to know who is truly good without the crucible of strife.
Pure stagnation of humanity once "perfection" is achieved in the universe.

An eternity of existence with no purpose, no meaning. That is what Doom offers. And over that I would gladly stand before him and choose death.

Different interpretations of the character. Happens to every long-running comic-book character. Especially the villains, because writers seem to have some need to alternate a few of them between villain and hero.

Doom has been so Saturday-morning evil that he qualifies as comic relief (pic related). He's also done awesome, heroic things purely for selfish reasons (killed the demon in some hell-dimension to rescue his mom). He's also done horrible, ridiculous things for admirable reasons (like in that cat picture we're talking about now).

Is Doom a "good guy"? Usually not, no. He's universally an asshole and egomaniac. But he's often fighting for the same things that the good guys are. And sometimes he actually IS one. And other times he's so hilariously not-good that it makes those times when he was good look silly.

In summation: he's a comic-book character.

Probably.
It may also explain the reason he likes to name, rename, and entitle things.
He seems to have an obsession with symbolism, euphemisms, and designation.

And to toss another interesting chunk of headcannon.
Thanks to Einsteins Theory of Relativity, that space and time are one and the same, it means that anything outside of the universe would be outside of time.
Anything occurring inside this universe to an outside observer already has, is, and will be occurring, and all at the same instant, explaining God's Omniscience, however something to be observed this way, it must still happen.

Second best to Richards on the Science front. Pym, Stark, Banner, etc are all second rate compared to the bullshit science mastery of Mr Fantastic.
Magic, he's probably closer to tenth or twentieth among humans. But he uses science to enhance his magic so he is pretty damn good.
Eldritch Knowledge is just an aspect of magic. We really should stick to comparing him to humans, anyways.
Alien Knowledge? Nova? He's just got an encyclopedia living in his helmet.
Wealth? Not sure. You might be right on this one.
He is nowhere near that high on the physical/martial arts scales. Iron Fist himself is probably 3rd or so on the list, after Shang Chi and Prince of Orphans.
>>
>>34902829

Eh, fantastic is...variable...on the science front. He's really good at discoveries, really shitty at implementation. Pym and Stark all make fantastic use of the stuff they develop, Fantastic is pretty shit at using it in creative ways generally. He makes a thing for a task and that's all it's for. He's a better researcher but a much worse engineer.

He's smart but he lacks the creativity of stark or the sheer 'In the Zone' factor Pym gets when he's in his mad science place.

All have a reasonable claim for #1 in their own way.

I like Doom best when he's an egotistical despot who rules with an iron fist and comes to blows with heroes for perceived slights against his honor.

>>
>>34903152

Pym has the issue that he's insane. Not in a comic books sort of way (most of the time) but actually has serious issues. When he's either completely batshit or actually has hold of his life, he's brilliant and call him #1 then. He just has trouble getting in the zone due to serious issues.

Banner is smart but I wouldn't honestly put him in the running with Richards, Doom, Pym and Stark.

Nope. Loki claimed to have done that just to fuck with Pym's head, but that was while he was strapped to a god-trap Pym designed and built that held him prisoner and drained his powers, rendering him mortal and easy to torture for information. Loki would have said anything to get out. He even begged Thor for help.

I've often tried to equate Luthor with Doom, but overall I don't think it really works because Doom is basically a good guy (with an ego problem) that's held back by his inability to accept responsibility for his disfigurement and mother's imprisonment, and subsequent scapegoat hatred of Richards.

Luthor on the other hand is basically just a big bag of dicks that occasionally does something good for the world. He claims he hates Superman because he's turned evil before and if he were to again he could wreak untold destruction but it's really out of simple, petty jealousy.

And let's not forget that he is a serial rapist.

Of course fucking not, because that was an actual thing that happened in the comics a number of time and they both got fucking sick of each other because their pride isn't the main issue, their ETHICS are.

Even if Doom did bring about united world peace through an iron fist he'd still be a fucking hyper dictator and do shit that seemed evil and maddening. For example- once he rules one world do you think he'd be satisfied with just that? Or would he make a fucking time machine so he can make sure every possible future is the one where he rules to prevent people attempting to stop him?

We all know it's the second, and that is what causes his hubris and continuation as a villain.

All the super scientists of marvel fuck up, but that's a human failing, and you try to forgive those. Because even the best people fail sometimes.

Richards, he refuses to admit that he fucked up, or that he might fuck up in the future. And that makes him insufferable.

Richards does do some crazy stuff (like all modern heroes due to the incompetence at editorial , the writers at understanding just wtf they made a character do, and Marvel deliberately making a comic suck because angry readers buy more comics because they pick one up to see if it really is as horrible as they heard.
I mean spider-man sold his marriage to the fucking devil.
Quesada has the gall to claim Peter "won" despite Peter getting an express ticket to hell, the loss of the one true and most happy thing in his life when everything else goes to shit, several of his support cast essentially being lobotomized(black cat literally lost 2 decades of character development in one go),

616 Richards may be questionable but he's not quite evil. He's unique among the multiverse reeds because his father won that multiversal alternate self deathmatch so he know she has family to ground him.
All of the other Reeds crack at the first major bit of stress and go full evil/insane.
>>
>>34901096
>Tony
>Moral
Bullshit. He has multiple evil future selves.
The current Tony isn't even the original one because Marvel had to replace him after his latest change to evil villain.
At least Reed Richards and the concentration camps was due to a lack of a spine after seeing what McCarthyism did to his uncle and worrying that the same thing would happen to his friends.
Tony just outright thought it was a great idea.
>>
>>34914100
Which of the Reeds had marvelous idea of using vibranium as power source in power plants he placed all over the world to give free power?
Because that didn't required much time to fuck up.

Dear Reed Richards:
Stick to the theories. Practice is a job for engineers, and you ain't one.
Sincerely, any other person capable of thinking about risk of implementing their creations.
>>
>>34913218
Can someone post the page where Reed is telling the story about how the FF got their powers to one of his babies?
It's probably the most humble he has ever been.
>>
>>34914247
Narrative causality. Whenever he tries to do something major it gets fucked up by others or repurposed so he never lets shit out. He made a small scale terraforming device to solve world hunger(starting in Africa) and it got turned into a WMD.

Reed can't even sell off his clothing without it being repurposed for evil. An old "4" patch got grabbed by some criminals and made into a storage device of EEEVIL in a daredevil comic.
Richards is understandably paranoid as shit about anything and everything he invents.
Shit man. Reed can't even have sex without it possibly going wrong.
>"Invent" a baby
>It's a multiversal reality warper that threatens to end all of existence each day if he thinks the wrong stray thought
>>
>>34914695
Pretty sure vibranium failure was inevitable thing. Though it's been time since I read it.

You mean the kid he once railgunned his mind?
I wonder if he didn't actually thought something akin to "hey, it actually works!"

>>
>>34900873
>No, Injustice was dogshit as a game and the plot seemed more out of Liefeld than anything.
I think he was talking about the comic. I gotta agree that the game plot was dogshit though. Superman is/was basically mid tier in-universe and suddenly the dozens if not hundreds of beings on Earth that can take him out don't do shit?
>>
>>34914785
I'm fairly sure that was either after he lobotomized Franklin's brain to depower him with a laser or when a bunch of shenanigans were happening but being a dick doesn't mean he's evil. It just means he's a dick and/or he had a reason to do so. Like for instance the reality warper was about to form a thought turning a person into a monster about to kill his uncle?

Though I think I have read that part about him doing it because he decided to not wait till it will cool down.
>>
>>34916227

It flops about in proper comic (lack of) continuity, but the story is the accident involving everyone's favorite douchebag Richards left him with a tiny scar, noticeable but not disfiguring. Doom's pride and vanity, though, inflated it into an affront to his very personhood, so when the mask comes rolling off the line he gives no fucks and puts it on, nearly burning his face off in the process. These are the first two occasions of Doom defeating himself via hubris and pride.

Who is man enough to defeat Doom? Doom.
>>
>>34916566
Wasn't it actually disfiguring at one time though? And then it was retconed or whatever into being a tiny scar
Comic books flip flop on a lot of rather important details
