You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

You feel yourself stirring, the snow materializing around you, soft and sharp at the same time.

First thought? Apparently you are not the best at fighting other invisible people.

“Jonathan! Jonathan!” Someone turns you over onto your back. The world spins, and spins, and spins…

Eventually, you’re looking up into a cluster of steadily sharpening shapes. A blob of electric blue focuses into Noriko, standing over you with a worried look on her face. Next to her is Lucas, and Laura, kneeling down beside you. Her eyes are strange.

There’s also a giant white cat-creature with big, sunny eyes and the catquivalent of a concerned expression painted across its brow. Man, the Scar is getting so weird. Almost too weird. You can’t believe nobody’s noticed (nobody with an opinion they’re willing to share with the general public, anyhow) this crap yet.

Laura sits you up gently, your head throbbing.

“What happened to you, Jonathan?”

>>
>[X] …scanned for her in the infrared, but then…

Thinking back, you explain your story, piecing events back together as you go. You remember that moment of sudden, reeling shock when the girl slipped into invisibility, and the almost reflexive way your shifted your eyes straight into the infrared. It didn’t do you any good – however her invisibility worked, it cloaked her heat signature just as well as it hid her from mundane sight. And that second wasted to stop and ascertain her position cost you.

You think – you think – she screamed. Except it was more like a roar, starting out low and guttural, then rising like a temper, extending out into a blast of sharp, painful decibels barely on the fringe of audibility. Your nervous system, your ears, your everything – you were suddenly just one big tangle of wailing fire. You felt it rush over you like a tidal wave, slamming you back against the wall behind you, the concrete shifting minutely at the force of the impact. The scream went on and on and on into blackness…

“Ow, man…” Notes Lucas.

“A sonic attack.” Laura nods her head grimly, checking you for injuries. “Very effective against someone with your senses. Are there…” She pauses. “…Are, are there any lingering side effects?”

You think she almost stuttered somewhere during that last bit.

“No…” You reply, and feel a tiny sigh of relief pass through her chest. “I don’t think so…”

“Good to hear.” Interjects the cat. Sitting up now, you can see the girl that was with him earlier, hiding behind his heavyset flank. “It was a fine thing to do, stepping in like that.”

Right. Uh…

A thought strikes you, and you check the time.

JJ's not a cold blooded killer. JJ punching he brains out of her head could have only been caused by a nat 1.

JJ would then have nightmares about it for weeks because of the guilt. And he would have probably had a -1 penalty for the next time we go to punch someone because JJ's too afraid of killing someone again.

>[X] Ask who this crazy lion guy is.

You guess you have to be polite for the lion guy. You are a lizard guy, after all, and he’s been reasonably polite with you.

“Just trying to help, Mr…?”

You offer your hand, and are baffled by the moment of uncomfortable silence that follows, before it dawns on you that this guy doesn’t strictly have hands.

“Uh, sorry…”

“Not at all.” Seeing a big human smile on a cat face is weird. Sort of… demonic, almost. “My limbs may have lost much of their manual dexterity, but I get by. Hargrave, by the way. Percy. And…” he indicates over his shoulder with his head “…this is my sister, Agatha.”

“Cool.” What else is there to say? “Nice to meet you. Just, uh, just wondering…” You turn to your friends. “How’d you guys find me?”

Lucas speaks up first. “Well, Percy found me outside.” He laughs a bit. “I didn’t know what to do, I was kinda panicking, I guess, and then Agatha did this thing with her eye, like… a psychic thing…”

“I saw through her perspective.” Says Laura, interjecting with all the finesse and sensitivity of a giant mallet. “I would assume everyone within the surrounding half mile did.”

Noriko nods in confirmation.

Well, that’s pretty cool…

“So, Percy…” Percy. The giant cat named Percy. “That the first time you’ve seen those guys around?”

He scoffs. “Hardly. Those two miscreants, perhaps, but Agatha and I ran into a young lad playing at the same game on our first night here.” He grins toothily. “Jumpy bugger. All I had to do was throw a few well-ground balls of ice his way and he scarpered off to god knows where.”

You can’t help but wonder how someone with Percy’s… physiological differences… throws a snowball, but you decide against bringing it up.

“Well, thanks for the save, Percy.” You glance around him, at his sister. “Agatha. But I’m pretty sure I have somewhere so be, so…”

Beside you, Laura’s brow falls into a disapproving frown.

“Jonathan, you should rest. When we found you your ears were bleeding profusely.”

Come to think of it, you have a mega headache.

Contrary to what the thunderstorm at the front of your skull seems to imply, you insist that you’re fine enough to get going.

“Mind helping me up?” You say. Towed up between Laura and Noriko, you smile broadly, resting your arms over their shoulders.

“I win.” You proclaim, earning yourself a funny look from all involved parties. “I win, I got you.”

Noriko rolls her eyes. “Don’t make me light you up, lizard boy.”

Saying goodbye to your feline friend and his sister, you depart, making your way back to the relative safety of the tunnel. You spend much of the following hour getting ready – plucking, shaving, washing, etc. Apparently the Agency have a suit picked out for you (god you hope it fits, you don’t want to worry overly tight trousers while you’re spying on the most dangerous people in New York). You track in a load of snow and Noriko converts it into water, allowing for a brief, moderately warm bath.

Spruced up to the maximum level possible for a man living in an abandoned subway station, you head out. As you emerge into the cold, you feel a set of eyes on your back, and turn around to see Laura slowly ascending the steps beside you.

“Jonathan.” She stares perplexingly. “Please be careful.”

It did, what the hell do you think that 1/5 meant.

I do feel the pyrophobia gimmick is really underutilized and its main effect atm is just being a scapegoat to kill DB.

This. JJ didn't defeat the demon because he was some sort of super powerful bad ass. The reason JJ beat the demon was because the demon went inside JJ. JJ and the demon were sharing a consciousness at the time. Meaning the demon could feel everything JJ could feel

When JJ freaked out so did the demon. JJ basically scared himself so bad the demon ran away. How many heroes in the Marvel universe have so much crackbitch in them a demon couldn't handle it.

Being inside JJ was literally worse than hell.

“I will be.” You promise, and shrug, smiling tenaciously. “You’re not getting rid of me that easy. It’s just a bunch of crooks. They won’t even see me coming.”

Seriously. You’ve fought paramilitary organizations and drug barons and possible demons. If you had the money for a costume you’d basically be a superhero. Granted, not the best superhero – possibly one of those guys that sort of do the Spidey thing but not as good. With a dark, edgy backstory, and lots of angst, too, like the heroes in those comics from the 90’s, where everyone has a giant gun and scowl and a big metal arm/leg/assorted other limbs.

On the other hand, it’s not just a bunch of crooks, it’s THE bunch of crooks, and you’re very nervous and Laura can probably smell that. She keeps her stare fixed in place, ascending the stairs until she’s uncomfortably close – for both of you, if her posture us any indication. She watches you carefully, the sustained eye contact getting you sort of fidgety, like suddenly being in the limelight.

Eventually, with great trepidation, you sort of hug her. It’s very awkward, but sort of nice, too.

“See you.”

She nods.

You head out into the cold.

It takes you a little over an hour to find your way to the Agency offices. The clouds have rolled in, and the sun is an awkward, dim little pimple behind the blanket of stifling, darkening grey. You can taste precipitation in the air – there’ll be a little bit of rain later. You knock at the door, and find yourself greeted by – surprise surprise – yet another intern. It’s like they collect them or something.

This one – who you’re pretty sure is entirely too young to be employed at all – introduces herself as Molly and pretty much immediately asks to see your ears. You wearily comply, weathering a number of enthused comments about Mr. Spock and such, before she all but drags you upstairs, into one of the rooms below the main office, where the tubby intern (oh man you forgot her name) and Remy are waiting. There’s an entire rack of very expensive looking suits standing between them.

“Finally.” Snorts the girl.

You feel a spike of discontent. You’re, like, ten minutes early.

Ignoring her, Remy glances down at his watch.

“Nice an’ early, mon ami.” He nods to the impressive assemblage of fancy wares. “Time to find out what fits.”

What do you know about suits? You know they’re expensive, and you don’t generally have the money to waste on such frivolities. Plus, they’re restrictive and kinda chilly, not really all that good for hobo-ing up and down the Big Apple. You cast your mind back momentarily – two people in your life have picked out suits for you. First, your mother, whenever a night out required that her children look somewhat presentable (or for church), then Creeper. You never really paid much attention to either.

You point this out before things go any further, narrowing your eyes at tubbo when she just can’t help but gurgle up some quiet laughter.

The following hour-and-bit is spent changing in and out of various luxuriously soft fabrics, each look passed by a panel of three judges with notably different tastes. Eventually, you end up in a creamy white, well-cut number that (apparently, this is Remy’s word you’re going on here) ‘really goes with your hair’.

“Real incognito.” Notes tubbo, her voice drenched with teenaged sarcasm.

“I think it’s nice!” Says Molly. You mumble a quiet thankyou, though you’re not sure how well her approval bodes. She’s wearing a Thing hat with kitty ears sewn on top, so her opinion is of questionable worth.

Remy nods.

“Ain’t lookin’ to go incognito tonight, petit.” He reaches into his pocket and withdraws a set of tickets, holding them up to the light. “Our way in.”

You squint, reading the names printed on the paper.

“Mr. Wingates and…” Wait a minute. “…Mr. Wingates?”

Remy smiles broadly, offering his arm.

“Ready to light up the night, darlin’?”

Force blasts are good at high levels but I don't think we'll ever be able to invest that much into a single power. When looking at powers only look at what it can do at lower levels because that's probably all we're going to get.

>>34986191
Let me rephrase that:
If our scream that we copied off her is similar enough that we're immune to her Scream, then it'd stand to reason that her scream is close enough to ours that she'd be immune to ours.

>Force blasts are good at high levels but I don't think we'll ever be able to invest that much into a single power.

We've already done so. Twice.
>>
>>34986257
OPTICAL FORCE BLASTS
JJ has developed the ability to project a beam of intense electromagnetic forces from his eyes!
Level 1: At this level, JJ may project a beam that pushes back objects. More damage will be dealt by propelling targets into other solids than by the actual blast.
Level 2: At this level, JJ’s force beams hit with considerable force, able to cause serious tissue damage. The beam may be widened to thirty inches or pinpointed to a centimetre.
Level 3: At this level, JJ’s force beams can smash reinforced materials and cause significant damage to bones and deep tissue. The beam can be widened to a meter. If shot in standard or lower width, the beams may change direction at one point in their flight.

SONIC SCREAM
JJ develops the ability to emit waves of sonic force from his vocals.
Level 1: At this level, JJ may project a high-pitched beam that causes sudden and acute irritation to nearby listeners, and can strike objects with roughly the force of an expert jab.
Level 2: At this level, the soundwave may be widened to a meter, and strikes hard enough to easily knock normal humans off their feet. It can be emitted as a high-pitched variant that causes intense pain and, eventually, temporary deafness.
Level 3: JJ may now modulate the frequency of his scream, allowing it to displace objects by vibrating them at the right frequency. This makes the power ideal for dismantling machinery, and can cause deep tissue damage to humans.

Not as much as they'd harden it vs. physical force, energy, explosives, and piercing weapons.
>>
>>34986348
Force offers more cohesion
SS only has dead Kimi going for it, which won't stop the Facility from targeting Laura and or us, hell they might send in somebody worse in her place....
>>
>>34986348
Theres a small plethora of ways to kill kim, and for cheaper.

the extrap that gives us neurotoxic venom on our bites could kill her, so long as we scratched her skin to inject enough. Thats 2 or 3 points tops.

Sonic is not special in that reguard.
>>
>>34986348
Imagine a force blast aimed between he finger and nail? Or curved around her eyeball into her her optic nerve.

At lv 3 optic blasts might not outright kill her, but they can disable her.
>>
>>34986276
>>34986305
You logic is flawed. Both of those power had discounted point costs. We've actually spent the same amount of points on Invisibility and Senses as we have on Agility.

We have never had more than 4 point at a time. And we've never bought a power that cost 5 point.
>>
>>34986256
Thanks for running Crusty.
>>
>>34986365
I meant staring LAZERS into their eyes.

>>34986363
Doesn't matter. If we can send shockwaves through an invulnerable chick's skin, we can send it through mundanely resistant metal.
>>
>>34986434
Well, that is the problem, Anon. Her skin is tough enough that even Laura's claws can't do the job.
>>
>>34986363
I don't know, maybe if we encountered them often? I don't think they could reinforce all the delicate equipment, plus its effective against Kimura and synergizes well with it stealh power extras
>>
>>34986386
Ide take the eyes over screaming like a bitch for a power any day. Besides, scots sad because every writer tries to masterbait him for the audiance, JJ is essentially a fall guy for the dice gods.
>>
>>34986465

>>
For everyone saying good exploratives, it's not only that but the fact that force beams have A explorative and that's it. A little sad.
>>
>>34986452
Can't we just eye beam her ass into space?
>>
...Should I even run a vote for Enhanced Muscle Memory? It seems as though nobody's running anything against it. I'm not sure what I'd even pit it against.
>>
Does sonic scream modify our voice or let us do any vocal tricks? The extrapolatives fuck with sounds, so I'm hoping some great ventriloquism and impressions.
>>
>>34986415
You can go deeper.
With Optic force blasts and geointuitive vision, we can knock people or projectiles out of the air, around corner, and into other things. at level 4 we can pull things into our punches, and will never have to worry about chasing down targets again since we can just pull them to us.
>>
>>34986374
>not denying you're shitposting
>>
>>34986469
Strength 3 + level 3 claws are very likely to penetrate. we already have more strength than laura, we just dont have the sharpness, and all we would need to do is break the skin.

That's true. Sonics have a lot more interesting things going for them. And if we pick up Sonic now, grabbing echolocation soon would make sense.

No, it's easily one of the best powers we have/had the possibility of getting.

>>34986513
Kimura's power is specifically concentrated on her skin, though. Sonic backs up JJ's strengths (stealth flying, some cool tracking abilities), gives him an awesome ranged attack (which has extrapolatives that allow us to AoE a crowd and only hit one thing in it, or something behind the crowd).
>>
>>34986501
Healing vitae or bank.

But I think we should settle the Sonic Scream/Optic Blasts debate first.

Woah woah woah, hold on here.

>VIBRATIONAL FOCUSING

>Cost: 2
>JJ may refine the normal kinetic force of his physical attacks into focused vibrational waves. These pulses can pass travel through materials to deliver the force of his attacks to a particular part of a system, rather than spreading it across said system’s surface area.

Does this mean that we could punch someone and make their heart vibrate so hard that it explodes?

That's kind of the thing. Each ranged power has cool bonuses, but each one has it's own super-cool stuff that the others don't get.

SONIC FLUCTUATION MEMBRANE
Requires: Level 2 Winged Flight, Level 2 Sonic Scream
Cost: 1
>JJ’s wings become capable of emitting precise vibrational pulses, fluctuating the air so as to achieve greater aerial mobility and allowing JJ to hover much like a helicopter or Harrier jet.

GENTLE BEATING
Requires: Level 1 Winged Flight, Level 2 Sonic Scream
Cost: 1
>The membranes of JJ’s wings may be calibrated to absorb sonic vibrations, allowing them to beat the air far more quietly. He will also displace less air and disturb less of his surroundings.

SUBSONIC TAGGING
Requires: Level 3 Sonic Scream, Level 5 Enhanced Senses
Cost: 1
>JJ can ‘tag’ anyone struck by his Sonic Scream by a subtle subsonic vibration perceptible only to him and precious few other pieces of advanced equipment. For some time afterward he will be able to track their exact position at great distances.

SOUND DEPRIVATION/MAGNIFICATION
Requires: Level 2 Sonic Scream
Cost: 1
>JJ can cause a persistent sonic variance to follow any target hit by his Sonic Scream. This can either mute them entirely, or greatly magnify any sounds they make.
>>
>>34986691
Combine optics with
TELESCOPIC VISION

I don't know why you're assuming that since people gave him ideas, he's going to just copy and paste powers though. It's not like he doesn't have a list of the powers.

Echolocation goes around corners already.

>he's going
he's not going

What kind of sentinels are we talking here?

>geo vision + echolocation stacked with senses + danger sense, flexibility, agility, claws, telescopic (soon?), EMM and force blasts
JJ's awareness and capability to take advantage of said awareness is scary.
>>
>>34987735
It would be funny if Crusty did add an EMP extrapolative. The requirements would be Optic Force Blast and Electrostatic cloud generation

>JJ can now fire his Electrostatic cloud from his eyes in a focused beam. Has the same effect as Electrostatic cloud with more range.
>>
>>34987917
What if the beam impacted object and disintegrated them in such a way that they became an electrostatic cloud?
>>
>>34987459
Can OFB bounce off walls?

That would be hella fun with Geo vision
>>
>>34987917
That makes more sense than anything the other anons where suggesting. Taser hands might be a requirement as well.

I want an extrapolative for Sonic that turns JJ into the Jones from Police Academy. A real guy that can make any suond.

Everything is hella fun with geo vision.

>Jones from Police Academy.
Crusty if you have not seen Police Academy, do it now.

Jones is Awesome.

He does stand up now or at least used to. He came to my town a couple times a few years ago. Didn't see him though

Adhesive touch + Optical Force Blast extrapolative idea: Forces struck targets to adhere to whatever they're touching.
>>
>>34988252
THAT COULD BE THE BEST CROWD CONTROL. Just eye-punch everybody and katamari them.
>>
>>34988252
it can pull at higher levels...

JJ WOULD NEVER HAVE TO GET UP TO GET THE REMOTE EVER AGAIN!
>>
>>34988252
You could do the same thing with Sonic Scream and say that it's creating a bond by vibrating the molecules together or something.
>>
>>34988252
I think that's spidey's bit
>>
>>34988344
you could, but it wouldnt make any fucking sense
>>
>>34988344
that's really reaching brah
>>
>>34988252
>>34988344
You make the same extrapolative without requiring either OFB or SS.

Tactile telekinesis is a thing.
>>
>>34988571
Ranged version of tactile telekinesis?
>>
>>34988595
>Ranged version of tactile telekinesis
So... just like the adhesive tongue extrapolative? (we're tying to avoid redundant extrapolatives.)

I do still want an etrapolative that lets JJ grow plants out of his body. Shoot vines out of JJ hand like spiderman's web shooters. I suppose it would function a lot like to the tongue but be more disposable.
>Probably require the Chlorophyll first.
>>
>>34988793
Seriously, what is with the Spiderman obsession? Spiderman is already IN the quest, get off his jock.
>>
>>34988793
If you want to be spiderman play Peter Parker quest. It's a thing.
>>
I know it's a little late but after reading I decided to think of some extrapolatives.

OPTICAL ELECTROSTATIC EMISSION
Requires: Level 2, Electrostatic Touch Level 2 Optical Force Blasts
Cost: 3
JJ can choose to convert his optical blasts into a focused blast of electrostatic energy capable of delivering an electrical shock equivalent to up to one level below his current Electrostatic Touch level.
>Let's JJ taser hand someone with his eyes.

ACOUSTIC MIMICRY
Requires: Level 2 Sonic Scream, Autonomic Sequencing
Cost: 2
JJ may activate a short term ‘recording mode’, allowing to reproduce any sound he hears within this duration down to the finest detail. With enough time and practice he is able to extrapolate how a sound is created in sequence with others. For example, he could perfectly copy a man’s voice but JJ would be limited to repeating exactly what the man had already said. Forming his own sentences with another persons voice would require JJ to store a significant amount of auditory information. It would also take some practice to make it sound real and not robotic.
>Basically Muscle memory. Only with sound.
>>
>>34988490
Nah, the specific target extrapolative. Just specifically target the button w/ level 2 and you're putting out enough force to knock the button back.
