[We're back after a few years of silence. Most of my original team is gone, but I, your humble GM, remain. I've been working on a more streamlined version of the game, and while it's not finished, it's ready for public testing. So, let's get started.]

[For those unaware of the premise of the Five Nations series of quests and the game itself, we take the widely accepted as good setting of Naruto, take away the massive power creep, take the universal strength level down, and remove the tailed beasts.]

You are Hikari Araki, a promising young woman of sixteen years from the Hidden Sand Village. Through great struggle you have reached the rank of Chunin, serving your Nation with pride and honor. War between your nation, the Hidden Stone Village, and the Hidden Leaf has ended within your lifetime, but already you feel the climate of the village has shifted again towards a wartime preparation, coming hot off the heels of the recovery efforts.

You have achieved this position of moderate standing through your good work. However, your family history molds you as it does everyone.

With your parents dead, you grew up very lonely. The Village supported you, financially, as soon as you joined the Academy, but without parents, you had a hard time getting by. However, this was eased by the presence of your older brother, who helped serve as a father role.

Your parents did leave you one thing, however, an incredible gift. Both you and your brother possess the Jiton Kekkei Genkai, the ability to convert your chakra into magnetic forces, allowing you to control metal. The two of you were taken better care of than other children your age in similar situations because of the prized blood you carried.

In the Academy you began to develop a person. Though you attended all of the lessons and performed in them, you did well, specifically in....

Though your Genjutsu was considered to be lacking, you wrote it off as something that was just extremely hard to do in the first place, and really threw yourself into your Taijutsu and Ninjutsu training. >>35021622

You focused primarily on speed for your tactics. You decided to work on being light on your feet and devastatingly fast with your hands and feet. You also didn't do much to study more jutsu than the absolute basics, learning two village favorite Wind Style Jutsu but, primarily, you focused on maximizing your magnetic powers.

As you grew during your time as a Genin you saw and fought many different shinobi who used many different styles. This influenced you to mature your own abilities and focus your career down the path you feel it is best suited for.

Your primary weapon is...
>Kunai, traditional and always useful
>Shuriken, thrown weapons master
>Tanto, short and stealthy, more blade than a kunai.
>Kama, deep cutting and cruel
>Neko-Te, vicious and bloody claws
>Chokuto, long sword to rival the samurai.

Chain Weaponry (specifically Kama).

It's exactly what it says on the tin: A melee weapon with a chain attached so it can be used at medium range, not just melee. With it made entirely out of metal, and our own Jiton...

You decided to use a very specialist weapon. The minute needle-like senbon, used for acupuncture, become deadly unerring darts in the hands of a Jiton user like you. However, because of their small size, using them for melee is unwieldy, and you do always keep kunai, shuriken, and a tanto nearby for situations where your senbon are not the best tool.

You have, however, eyed the kusari-gama with lustful eyes from time to time, knowing that the steel snake dance of the weapon would be perfect with you. It is a future goal to be sure of.

With your weapons and Jutsu established, your position in fights was clear. You sat back, while your team-mates engaged the enemy and, despite the difficulty of hitting a target who was using an ally as cover, your shots rarely missed their mark once they were hit even a single time. Your Jonin sensei was proud of your work in the team.

In a team setting, what Role do you take...
>Suppression, you stay back and throw an overwhelming amount of projectiles to pin down enemy movement.
>Tactician, you watch the battle and, through the use of wire, chain, precision strikes, and your magnet style, both save friends and hinder foes
>Squad Leader, you lay out the battle plan, and through your foresight, you are able to set up deadly Combination Strikes that quickly lead to a foe's downfall.
>Devastation, you use your Jiton to rain death on everyone in an area with powerful AoE effects.
>>
>>35021950
Why not both? With our ability, Senbon becomes an effective ranged alternative to the kunai, and the chain kama makes for a pretty good melee weapon.
>>
>>35021950
Sure it's not a bad idea, using liquid mercury isn't either once we get good enough control over our bloodline, but I hope that is too edgy even for this quest

In a team you are the Squad Leader's wet-dream. Your massive tactical ability, tagging someone slyly with your magnetic ability, drawing them out from their squad, and then when they're exposed, restraining them for your execution, makes you extremely valuable.

For the sneaky nature of your techniques and the killing ability of your reputation, among Genin and Chunin you are called Hikari the Scorpion. Your sting comes from parts unseen and leaves the victim dead before they even know it hit them.

As a parting gift from your Jonin mentor they offer to teach you one of their vital skills.

Gen Sensei teaches us....
>Puppetry, though it is so difficult you only learned the basics.
>Poison, adding poisons and the ability to develop them and add them to your senbon increase your lethality greatly.
>Chain Weapons, you can use a chain as either a bludgeon, a tripwire, or if you're feeling vicious, a noose.

You spend a few weeks training in a one on one setting with your Sensei before the Chunin Exams. The dance of the steel rings is made all the easier with your Jiton abilities, and he notes with surprise that you have reached a level of ability with the Chain that some shinobi spend a year to reach in a month.

During your exams you faced a total of seven foes. Though you lost your final match, it wasn't a problem, as both finalists became elevated to Chunin.

How did you handle your opponents in the exams...

>Viciously, you are a cruel girl and sought to take lives whenever you could, especially from foreigners. You are mean and sadistic.
>Effectively, you fought to their limit and put them down as quickly and easily as you could. You are calm and practical.

Foremost, you observed the situation and struck from positions of advantage only. To many outside observers they would see as a very cold person, but your Sensei, team, and brother knew the truth as you knew it. Though you weren't fond of getting too bloody, you adored the fun of meeting metal against metal, bone against bone, and a part of you almost yearned for someone to trump your traps and engage you in hand to hand.

Your wish was granted in the finals. A white-eyed man from the Hidden Leaf evaded your traps, seeing through them as if they were as obvious as day, and when you attacked his chakra forced away your weapons and eventually he closed on you.

The melee exchange was exciting for you, his blows were delivered with fingertips and palms, and when he tapped you, in the slightest, you felt the pain deep inside of your body. This pushed you further into your speed and the sound of blows raining around you filled your ears as they missed by fractions of an inch.

You finally saw an opportunity for your chain and bound one of his arms. As you threw your senbon at the now restrained target he did something surprising and jumped towards you, pushing the senbon aside with a quick rotation, binding his entire leg in your chain, but as you tried to trip him his palm collided with your chest and you saw white.

How do you feel about your loss..

You know what's really the kicker for Byakugan? All the inheritors use it to hit critical points on the opponents body....which is something ANYONE could do with sufficient training.

See, if Gentle Fist was more like Hokuto Shinken, then it would actually be good. Kenshiro doesn't need to hit pressure points all over your body to kill you, he does that for dramatic effect. He can always just cave your skull in. But the Hyuuga need to hit you 64 times in rapid succession to perform their killer attack. Not worth it.

Verily, power point pressing is much more impressive when it's goretastic instakills.
>>
>>35022856
The funnier part is, it's exactly what we do too, but we do it to greater effect.
What I envisaged for our senbon was striking their pressure points, and then using a magnetic field to dive it deeper into the enemy body, not only killing their pressure point but doing internal damage as well.
Instead our bloodline ability is suddenly inferior, and basically means nothing aside from extra character fluff.

You awoke with a drive to better yourself if you would meet him again in the future, and curious about the abilities of the white-eyed boy from Konoha. You realized that things had been too easy for you recently and that you needed this.

A few years later and you stand in the Assignment Officer's room, kneeling alongside another Chunin. "Hikari, we have received a call for assistance from a minor nobleman in our country whose castle is besieged by a peasant uprising. You will be deployed with Ran Suzume to the castle, where you are tasked with bringing the revolt to a stop. This is a C-Rank Mission, despite the fact that these are peasants, we expect shinobi interference either from rogues or from an external threat. You will depart this evening and arrive under nightfall."

You accept the mission and as you gather your gear you review your file for a final time, seeing that your memories are in order.

Sure. Let's go be ninja. Actual ones, even. This is so weird, I don't know what to think about it.

[Outstanding. Now, we're not gonna start today cause I've got to head out very soon. However, we can talk about the exact details of the schedule.I am going to run the Quest on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday. However, this week is special, so I will be running tomorrow in the afternoon until the night for our intro session as well as Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.]

[The last bit of time we have today will cover any questions to help establish backstory, our character, and our relationships as well as the state of the world.]
>>
>>35022922
We only lost because PLOT. We got a rival who's better than us as someone to strive to beat; now we're encouraged to get better so we can kick his ass later.

Always happens. Not necessarily a bad thing.
>>
>>35023088
Why did we lose to Neji/Neji-alike?
If anything we seem to be a direct counter rather than being directly countered
>>
>>35023088
How strong are we exactly? The sheet just has a bunch of numbers and we just got the floor wiped with us by "Gets wrecked by everyone" the character
>>
>>35023088
So yeah how is the state of the world at large and what is our take on it all, heck what is our favorite food for that matter.
>>
>>35023117

See >>35023092

One thing about the Gentle Fist/Byakugan as a whole is that it does prevent any sort of chakra from invading the opponent's system and the rotation (Kaiten) counters projectiles. The other useful ability they possess is the ability to see chakra, which can be used to determine the state of a trap.

However, this is not to say that he is a hard counter, more that we were inexperienced with fighting Hyuga's.

>>35023153
It's one of the saddest things, I agree, that Hyugas are put down in the "not Sharingan so GTFO" class of KG's, but to answer your question more directly we are very capable of doing exactly what we want to. In combat our "rich get richer" style where we get an advantage and bury an opponent makes us a perfect assassin. 99% of shinobi can't get rid of the Magentic mark we can put on them, and will spend the whole fight either deflecting projectiles with their own, running, or getting skewered. The only people that will give us a hard time are ninjas who have heavy armor, a way to ignore small sums of damage through some means, or some manner of regenerative ability. Senbon are ultimately not extremely damaging, but being hit by several dozen is damning for anyone.

>>35023202
Answering this one at length in the next post. Also, favorite food is zaru soba, cold noodles.
>>
>>35023088
Are Jinchuuriki still present but as normal characters? Also, how did our parents die? Was it anything that would lead us on some PATH OF REVENGE against our older brother who's actually a good guy?
>>
>>35023241
How widely known is our reputation as The Scorpion?
>>
>>35023202

The world at large is coming off the back of the First Shinobi World War, and the Chunin Exam you took part in was the first effort to restore Village cohesion and a sense of brotherhood amongst shinobi. Our Village in particular bears grudges against Konoha but no village has our ire more than the Hidden Stone Village, since they share our largest border and compete with us most regularly. We are a bit bitter towards the Hidden Stone for their role in killing our parents.

>>35023254
Speaking of our parents, they were killed in a sneak attack by the Demolitions Corps from the Hidden Stone. Their Demo Corps is like the Seven Swordsmen from Mist, the Sealing Squad from our Village, the Twelve Guardians from Leaf, and the Kinkaku Force from Cloud.

Our father was a medic, a meek and encouraging man, who preferred to read and study rather than fight. Our mother was an opinionated woman who fought with an oversized weapon that she accelerated with her Jinton powers. Our older brother was in the Academy at the time, and at the current point in the story is a Special Jonin in charge of teaching at the Academy for his firm grasp of the basics. As far as the Jinchuuriki, I want to avoid too many specifics about characters who are around.

>>35023313
We aren't Bingo Book material, so it's more of a name carried by Genin who we fought against in the Exams. Maybe 1/100 Ninja has heard of it.
>>
>>35023241
>One thing about the Gentle Fist/Byakugan as a whole is that it does prevent any sort of chakra from invading the opponent's system and the rotation (Kaiten) counters projectiles.
See though, the thing about that.
Is that the magnetic field is a counter to the rotation, as the weapons would not stop and be flung away, such as they would with Tenten and such.
Instead they would circle around him, but retain their speed, maybe even increase it, and then circle back into his body.
> The other useful ability they possess is the ability to see chakra, which can be used to determine the state of a trap.
As such, we should have determined utilizing our chains instead of projectiles would be the way to victory, as utilizing our chains would have meant we were capable of setting a trap that isn't see-able through simple chakra.

For example, making it so the chains would circle and ensnare their lower body, so he jumps to evade.
However, at that point he cannot move anywhere but down, so we have the chain follow him into the air, and ensnare his body. At such a point we can simply wrap him in chains, and have him forfeit, as without free arms the Gentle Fist is essentially useless.

>Senbon are ultimately not extremely damaging,
I'd disagree with you there, especially in the way >>35022922 described it, it's essentially a long and sharp object penetrating through your flesh, then lodging itself into the muscle. Impossible to get out without medical tools and preparation, and essentially unavoidable.
Now you place that in key points in the body, tendons, arteries, etc etc, and you've essentially got easy OHKO's on your hands.
>>
>>35023367
Our magnetneedle tags work for sensing their position too, not just as homing targets, right?
Do we know how our mother fought? If so, we should work on getting some of that involved into our style, wearing braces and stuff to accelerate for kicks and punches, then eventually we could get so used to it that we can enhance our run to get super sprint from them. Are our magnet powers the magneto kind, that is metal telekinesis with some real magnetism mixed in?

>>35023367
Can we have our chains be bladed? Like, have each of the links have small blades on it?
>>
>>35023458
The exact nature of Jiton has been pretty all over the place in terms of what it can do. The few people we've seen use it to basically be Gaara but with gold and iron, or to make someone a homing beacon for metal. So, as far as sensing, that'd be one of our UA's, or Unique Abilities, the last part of the character sheet that we'll develop on the fly.

As for how mother fought, other than her massive club that she would cart around with the help of her powers, she'd use it to heft it up in the air and then let gravity and her chakra accelerate it down, and then release that chakra. Her control over chakra was insanely high. As was your Father's, and that's where she learned it from, in fact. We could definitely go that direction, if we wanted to.

>>35023496
Yeah, razor chain is a pretty standard piece of equipment. We'll arm ourselves for the mission at the start of tomorrow's quest.

>>35023434
The way that it was presented in the manga was that to establish the field you need to be hit by something carrying it once. If you're never hit directly, you don't carry the field. Rotation uses chakra to push it away and doesn't confer that to the user. Admittedly, using senbon in the way you describe would be very damaging.
>>
>>35023565
Could you explain "the field" a little more?
Can we only put our Jiton out on an enemy we've hit? Is that it's limit?
>>
>>35022922
>The funnier part is, it's exactly what we do too, but we do it to greater effect.
I'll agree with that once I see a guy explode after you hit him just once.
>>
>>35023620
I think that's the limit of our homing strike, but we can use it as course-altering and stuff at range if we've infused an object with our chakra (Is that how it works, we can't just TK regular metal, only stuff we touched?)
>>
>>35023639

>>35023649
I get that, but if we just needed to hit them, couldn't we essentially create a mini-railgun with a Senbon, even with the rotation he wouldn't be fast enough to counter it.
>>
>>35023620
So, the way that the Jiton appears to work, and the way we're rolling with it now, is that the quality of "Magnetic" is part of our natural chakra. If we charge a weapon with chakra, not enough to make it like Sasuke's sword where the element is flowing up and down it, since that requires constant streaming, but instead leave trace amounts of it. When a charged projectile comes in contact with an opponent in any way, be it through a metal weapon or direct contact, they become affected by the same Magnetism. Now, they are considered to be heavily magnetized and pull metal towards them. So think of it as an infection by contact.

>>35023649
That's correct. We can influence our stuff by default, represented by higher accuracy with those weapons, but things that we've touched are under our sway to a point.
>>
>>35023620
chakra strings i think if the target is hit once then all will fallow the trail, if he's never hit the spikes don't have a specific target. at least thats what i think
>>
>>35023705
So would >>35023701 be impossible then?
I mean, the description earlier in the thread was VERY, very scarce, you should have extended it a bit.
>>
>>35023661
Oh. Sorry. Take this pic as an apology, may it serve you well should you run into an intolerable fatass elsewhere on the internet.
>>
>>35023737
Making a railgun of sorts is possible. But there are things like ammo restrictions and, frankly, a bit of rules control we have to exert over this. I understand that the description was a bit scarce, but we'll know the exact mechanical limitations of abilities come tomorrow. I'll have a full description of our Jutsu and what they can do, as well as the nature of our Jiton style up by the time we're ready to run.
>>
>>35023766
It's alright, and I most likely will.
That being said, if we can do >>35023701, we most likely can perform that sort of shit.

>But there are things like ammo restrictions
Oh really? I think Tenten would certainly disagree with you on every single case there.
And considering she, when she had the power to manifest absurdly shittons of everything, was on exactly the same level as us, I think that won't be a problem for us either.
>>
>>35023779
I personally don't see ammo being much of a problem, and if we can create a railgun, it shouldn't be hard to completely kill nearly anything with one strike in the right place.
After all, it's essentially creating a bullet, and one of those striking bone would completely destroy a person.

By the way, what other bloodlines could we have gained?
And, what exactly is our relationship with our brother?
>>
>>35023846
Absolutely we can do that! It's a super cool idea that's undersold to hell in the manga. Scrolls, apparently, are hammer space for the most part, and we can just carry tons of them which holds all of our ammo. I would strongly encourage that and praise it as a cool thing for us to do.
>>
>>35023894
Naturally, not being Leaf, there is virtually no mention of anything else but our token KKG. Puppetry is the big skill in the village, but other KKG's we've seen from Sand include Scorch, which is Wind + Fire, which dessicates people as well as just shooting hyper-focused heat at them.

Our relationship with our brother is a bit of a complicated mix of foster-father and brother. Since you've gotten older he's eased up on his parental role and instead takes a more advice-based position and helps us with questions or problems we have. It's a good relationship, just not particularly warm.

So, we'll have a bucket load of senbon, bladed chains covered in explosive wrapping paper, and absurd amounts of throw-able shit for our magnets.

>>35023950
Did we have to start here? Sand always seemed like a shitty village to me anyway.
>>
>>35023984
Wellllll in regards to that, we did a campaign as Leaf and one as Mist, and the last one we attempted was received negatively for being from Leaf, since it seems people are tired of it. We're gonna make an identity for Sand and try to bring it forward as something enjoyable, like we did with Mist, though Mist give us a lot more to work with.
>>
>>35024014
Why don't you do one pre-villages, with all of the clans next time?
>>
>>35023705
I think you should make it so we can choose to make someone attract metal by default, or if he only attracts stuff we charge in a way that it gets attracted to him (selective targeting ftw)
>>
>>35024038
Did one like that. Went well, people went waifu-wars on it. Learned from it.

>>
>>35024062

>>

Five Nations Quest Gaiden is the series.

>>35024136
I wouldn't mind the second, but from the way that ninjas are presented Clans of Ninja are the earliest we know about shinobi history. During the founding wars would be cool.
>>
>>35024062
Err, I don't know, I just feel the magnetic release is one of the most disappointing bloodline abilities, but I suppose the way we're using it, kind of makes it more interesting.
Oh, and, next thread, could we vote on our chakra affinity, rather than having it random?
>>
>>35024188
Nah, random chakra is good, less powergaming and more fungaming
>>
>>35024188
Actually it's kinda decided by Bloodline, at least two are. We have Lightning + Wind, which make Magnet.
>>
>>35024204
I personally disagree, but I'm not going to argue.
>>
>>35024223
Hmm, I guess Fire+Earth would make metal, then?
>>
>>35024223
Well, I suppose that's individual to your universe then, since it isn't quite so in the actual one.
By the way, what happened to the tailed beasts then?
>>
>>35024285
Fire + Earth makes Lava, actually.

>>35024293
True, Magnet is not outwardly stated as being made of Lightning + Wind. But other Advanced Elements are made of composites, so I just made a logical step to saying WInd + Lightning.

As far as the tailed beasts we're just gonna pretend that never happened. It's worked in the past and it should work now.
Anyway! I think I'm gonna wrap it up, I've gotta get going soon. Looking to start tomorrow around 1-2 PM EST and we can get rolling. Thanks for taking part and I hope we have a good run.

>>35022736
I'll never understand why people think Byakugan is crap.

The hyuuga weren't really using it to it's full potential because they had a specific fighting style. But the bloodline is capable of much more.

Just a few good points about this doujutsu
- Upon activation instantly gives ~360 degree sight in a range of 50 meters and can be extended with training
(in canon the furthest we saw was 10 kilometers, but that wasn't even a jounin, or anyone particularly old)

-Can see through blocking terrain, smokescreens etc, can tell when genjutsu are being used and identify chakra seals and other chakra constructs (which except in special high power cases are invisible)

-Can discern transformations from real people

-Is one of the original doujutsu

With just the basic abilities a ninja could be incredible, no need to mimic the Hyuuga style at all.
The potential is mind boggling.

>>35022897
IIRC, the hyuuga use that style because it is extremely efficient chakrawise and is flexible enough to simply KO an opponent or kill them without them having to change much.
If they simply want to murderlize they have several other usable techniques
For example Lions fist, which forms chakra constructs around their hands and tears out throats and other body parts
Bonus of being invisible to people who can't see chakra
>>
>>35024847
Eh, Byakugan isn't as good in an actual fight, but for EVERYTHING ELSE THAT A NINJA COULD EVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH it's pretty much invincibility.
>>
>>35024881
It is good in combat, but only in certain ways. In fact, I think Rock Lee or Gai would have been even more of an absolute monster if he had the Byakugan
>>
>>35025124
>I think Rock Lee or Gai would have been even more of an absolute monster if he had anything else
FTFY
>>
>>35025213
Obviously, but the Byakugan would have worked exceptionally well for them, without being haxxorz-ultimate-deathgod-sharingan levels of bullshit
>>
And lets not forget that Byakugan users should have an easier time acquiring sage mode due to their ability to see the chakra they're gathering and not futzing about with feelings and guesses.
>>
>>35025461
Dude what
>>
>>35025515
Byakugan users can see chakra in all it's forms, Incuding nature and inside bodies.

In order to activate sage mode you have to balance not only physical and spiritual chakra (which is done for normal jutsu) but nature chakra as well.

If you mess up the nature chakra balance it either doesn't work or you die, depending on if you underbalanced or overbalanced.

A Byakugan user, unless they can't see their own systems (in which case they'd just need a family member to help out) would be able to balance this effectively due to being able to actually see the amounts instead of just having to feel what the balance is like normal, non chakra sight ninja.

Explosive senbon, dude.
>>
>>35026467
Because.....wait......that's....that's an absurdly great idea.
>>
>>35026467
Size and weight

Senbon aren't heavy enough to throw well with tags wrapped on.

We can make up for some of that with bloodline but we have a max range on that that seems to be less than our throwing range.
>>
>>35026681
But think of it this way, imagine if we could wrap an ultra-thin explosive tag onto a senbon, then insert it into someone, then BOOM.
>>
>>35026735
or maybe just figure out how to inscribe senbon with the explosive rune, without needing the tag? Combine that with a scroll that mass-produces items
>>
>>35026504
Welp, we have another trap ready.

What I'm thinking of, personally, is a 2D web with gaps large enough for a person to jump through easily. When they try and do so to get to us, that gap suddenly closes, trapping one of their limbs or, if we're in a poor mood, shearing the limb right off.
>>
>>35026735
